sad avery head canons

avery used to pull out a guitar (cause i hc she can play the guitar) and sing songs for her mom when she was on her death bed

she now visits her mom's grave and does the same thing. she sings her mom's favorite songs on the verge of tears (if she isn't already crying).

avery used to wear an elastic band around her wrist and would snap it repeatedly until her wrist became sore and red (it didn't always make her stop though) when she was feeling overwhelmed or did smth she deemed wrong.

whenever avery would drive across bridges or anything really high up, she would think about jumping off of it.

she used to get her mom or libby to help her bake cookies that she would bring to school to try to get people to become her friend (it never worked)

she used to eat lunch in the back of the courtyard in a secluded place most of the time bc no one wanted to eat with her (until she met max obviously)

i'm currently rereading tig and i can't help but notice how uncomfortable she becomes when someone touches her so i hc drake or some other random creep sexually assaulted her once (or multiple times) and that's the reason why she seems so uncomfortable with physical touch.

she used to cry in her mom's arms wondering why she wasn't good enough for people to want to be her friend

when her and libby were struggling to get by and couldn't afford food, she would save the food for libby and not eat (she would tell her she ate at the diner she worked at but didn't)

when she realized, at the age of six, that her father was a piece of shit who didn't actually want her, she started trying to find faults in her to explain why this might be (she thought that if she could 'fix' herself, her father might want her)

she sometimes purposely gives herself papercuts when she feels really numb just to make herself feel something

when she would live in her car, she would sometimes continuously bash her head on the steering wheel wishing her life could be different.

when she was younger, to get people to like her, she would give them everything she had. she would do their homework for them, would cover for them when they wanted to cause trouble in the school, etc, but, in the end, it was always temporary

whenever she comes across someone who looks like sheffield grayson she freezes up in fear/shock. a little voice in her head tells her she's in danger and they'll hurt her.

after all of the almost-death experiences she's been through, she developed a panic disorder (this is already sort of confirmed) that she has to treat with pills.

she sometimes takes the haters' comments to heart (the comments about her weight, etc). she would start telling herself that skipping one meal wouldn't hurt. jameson noticed really early on though and stopped her before it became too severe.

she's convinced people would be better off without her and that she only causes pain and destruction everywhere she goes (bc of what happened with toby)

she actually hates getting drunk because it reminds her too much of her father. jameson started to notice that she would get really uncomfortable whenever he got drunk so he started to drink less. when he did drink though, he made sure it wasn't enough to get drunk.

because of everyone comparing her to emily, she's convinced herself that she's just jamie's second option and she'll never measure up (personality wise, looks wise, everything). jamie and her talked about it a lot and she's now less insecure.

she gets terrified when she hears noises at night bc she's convinces someone's there to hurt her

she forgives people so easily bc she desperately wants people to actually like her.

in the books she says she doesn't allow herself to want to want things bc it could potentially distract her/hurt her. i also think she doesn't allow herself to want things bc she doesn't think she deserves to want anything.

when she's in a stressful situation or she's having a panic attack, she'll start scratching her arms really roughly until they start to bleed to get herself to focus on anything other than the stress/panic.

the scratches on her arms became too obvious so she started scratching her sides instead.

she can't watch any tv shows with violence/war bc the loud sounds remind her too much of the shooting.

one of the reasons why she realized her father was a piece of shit was bc, once, he got way too drunk and slapped her. that was sort of like the catalyst for her.

bc she grew up so isolated, she's afraid of emotional and physical intimacy. she's afraid she'll start liking feeling loved/close to someone too much since she believes it'll never last (jamie showed her she was wrong)

i'm an averyjameson stan so don't take this the wrong way but avery was affected by jamie thinking of her as only a game way more than she lets on. even after they got together, she was paranoid that he had ulterior motives.

she blames herself whenever something goes wrong in the foundation or hawthorne house even when she had nothing to do with the problem.

she's extremely paranoid when it comes to locking her bedroom door and stuff like that bc of how often her privacy is invaded.

i said this in another post but, especially before she inherited the money, she would sometimes smoke weed to lessen the stress she felt for a little while.

she hates going to sleep bc her sleep is always invaded by horrendous nightmares. it became so bad she ended up in the hospital (jamie was absolutely terrified and made her promise to talk to him more).

she has this one stuffed animal that her mom gave her not long before she passed that she cries into whenever she feels like her life is going to shit.

before she inherited the money, she was actually near her breaking point. she was seriously considering if staying alive was actually worth it.

before she inherited the money, she used to count on her fingers how many people would miss her when she died to convince herself to stay alive (the number was never more than three). the fact that the number was so low made her feel even shittier and made her spiral.

her grief for her mom is so intense sometimes she can't get out of bed. she doesn't eat, sleep, drink water, etc. alisa had to contact a therapist/psychiatrist to help avery get out of bed.

to end on a brighter note, here's a happy avery head canon:

she used to dance all the time when she was younger. she would pull out her mom's phone, start playing some music, and jump around waving her tiny little arms everywhere whilst singing along. she would pretend she was a popstar. her mom would film her and send the videos to libby. the brothers have seen all of them bc libby showed them.

This isn't gonna be a deep analysis, but I keep thinking about it: the fandoms relationship to attractiveness as showcased by Sirius and Remus respectively.

We have the text. In which Harry and some unnamed girl from the marauders year find Sirius attractive. Vs tonks pining through at least 2 if not 3 books for Remus.

Harry generally seems to be attracted to people who are perceived by the general public as attractive (see: Cho, ginny, Bill, Cedric). He is our point of direction for this.

The fandom at large seems to have taken this as confirmation that Sirius is vaguely attractive, in the most general sense. Good looking, but in the end boring bc he fits some arbitrary criteria of general beauty. In a way that nobody who spends time getting to know him would even consider his looks at all, bc his character is so genuinely abhorrent that he's barely acceptable. And then only bc Remus is delusional, and bc James feels like he has to keep him in his friend group bc nobody else would even consider it. Also bc sirius will give 150% to overcome all his shortcomings (that fanonically start with his inability and disinterest in knowledge at large, and end with him gambling all his friends lives away for a laugh)

Meanwhile, Remus has canonically far less descriptions to hold onto. He has brown hair with streaks of white in his early 30s, and by this point he looks both sickly and poor (Harry mentions both for him in swm as well, but immediately follows it with plausible deniability for his preconceived opinions about either of them so I don't give it too much merit, even though I know most people have taken this as direct and unchangeable confirmation that he didn't have any kind of money at all all his life. But I don't ascribe to that, so don't even start with me)

But the fandom seems to take their respective popularity throughout poa and ootp as both direct confirmation as to how generally most people find Remus attractive for his sickly and unusual looks, and his general popularity based on the way Molly and the students react to him.

Meanwhile Sirius has the derision of both hermione and Molly, and his descriptions after azkaban working against him, as well as the fact that no one other than Harry and that one girl in their class was actually shown to be attracted to him. That, and the blurb from extra Canon in which Remus talks about how hot and sexy Sirius has been.

This is generally not smth I care too much about. Go for it, if you want to take these plot point to point out how attractive either of them is. If you live in a world in which Remus is just generally more attractive than Sirius, and everybody thinks so, that is okay.

But pls. Please. I beg you. To not act like it's the other way around when you make everyone in their general vicinity unable to talk about anything other than how Remus is the sexiest person to ever exist, and how each and everyone of them (even the lesbians) would have a go at him if given the chance. And if you have Remus go on dates several times during your fic, or have everyone who is interested in Sirius be first, or more, attracted to Remus.

If you want to have Sirius be just a mid looking guy whom nobody really likes, and who can't do too many things at all. Who has nothing to go for him other than his money and his obsession with Remus, and the fact that remus also finds him attractive (even though he is the only person who thinks so).

If you want Sirius to be this, just go with it. Let him be mid. Let Remus be the hottest person ever. Let Sirius know that he isn't really all that hot, and let him rely on his mind. Honestly just give him anything. Don't give him something you tell us he is good at, when all you end up doing is negating it directly by telling us that remus is the hottest person in school, that James actually likes him better, that remus is the only one able or interested in reading.

If you want Remus to have all of that going for it, don't act like this is some arcane knowledge, especially when you have not a single person in your fic or au who has anything positive to say or think about Sirius.

-idk. timeloop shit. adriens stuck in a cycle of the night before (V HARD TO GET A HEAD START IN SUCH A SHORT TIMEFRAME!!) day of, n day after (so no matter what he always has to reexperience the aftermath hehe). i am actually not a huge fan of when longer timespan loops get past mid teens (ESP when it gets to TRIPLE DIGITS???!) bc it feels like it cheapens the experience and also acute stress is sexier than chronic SO ANYWAY. eventually he will obviously succeed in brking the loop and keeping marinette frm dying. good for him.

-every loop is a little different bc every loop marinette CANT PUT HER FINGER ON IT but she knows something is Not Right, which chat blanc is ALSO feelin, so every time they react or do smth diff which means adrien is constantly having to deal w CHANGING VARIABLES !! hes having a bad time. marinette is having a bad time. chat blanc is having a very good time

-final actual confrontation or whatever is pure marichat (DOUBLETEAM. MARI IS AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT EVEN AS A CIVILIAN. YOU GO BABY!!). ive only drawn adrinette moment but the whole thing is very marichat bc im PREDICTABLE!! anyway no lb bc marinette freaks out cb is gonna take her earrings or cataclysm them so she just straight up swallows em. good job baby.

-THE END BABY!! epilogue reveal EVENTUALLY but for quite some time after they are both quietly carrying the weight of their secret traumas alone w neither of them having a full picture of the situation but not knowing it. what a good time :)

i think this looks v adrien focused but they are all having their separate little stories here and its largely marinette feeling isolated and small for all her mistakes, and chat blanc feels like the worst possible one she has or could ever make so she cant consider asking anyone, let alone CHAT NOIR HIMSELF!! to help her, which just makes everything 100000x harder. by the end of the STORY PROPER she accepts she can trust herself in chat noirs hands but shes still too scared to put her full weight on him bc she doesnt wanna FUCK UP. meanwhile adrien wont say shit to her abt it bc he doesnt wanna burden her w his SECRETS also hes drownin in guilt. also eventual identity reveal changes nothing for him in terms of grief bc he already felt like he died every time marinette did except worse bc he had to just keep living anyway :) but now also hes afraid of an identity reveal for probably obvious reasons. and then beloved CHAT BLANC man of the HOUR switched gears frm wanting to Fix things to wanting to destroy things bc hes a fucking yandere wifeguy OKAY. he knows he is forever RUINED for love of marinette and since he cant have her future is instead entirely focused on making sure he has all of her end <:3c

Chloe and Benny are a duo! I mentioned it before in my other posts abt her, but Chloe is definitely just sort of doing its own thing, and that just happens to cross paths with the Psychonauts a lot. She’ll work with them when she can, and work against them when they try to shove her into a box with all their “rules” and stuff. Benny is her “guy in the chair” and usually stays back at the lab unless she really needs the extra hands on deck.

i really like the idea of its main power being shield!! I didnt really think about the color coordination but youre so right to be honest, and i think it would work really well for her. Aside from her shield ability, she’s not a very naturally powerful psychic. It uses psitanium to grant itself power-ups during battle, and the big robot arm is basically a super-powered gauntlet that it can harness strong psychic energy into, using it for very powerful psi-blasts and the like..

Maloof and Mikhail are similarly not very for-or-against the Psychonauts, but definitely a lot more antagonistic. But theyre pretty much the lowest threat on the list. Maloof is sort of a goofy b-plot type villain, doing “evil” for the sake of “evil”, and Mikhail is just there to make sure Maloof doesn’t blow himself up.

They’re also the “guys” that Lili knows! Like, whenever Raz and his team need some inside info or resources and Lili mentions that she “knows a guy,” Maloof and Mikhail are said guy. Collectively. Raz greatly disapproves of the fact that Lili hasn’t turned these guys into the psychonauts yet, but she thinks that theyre harmless yet useful enough to let them roam free without it backfiring that much.

Elka is. A special case. Probably one of the ones that could be considered the most objectively threatening, but her antagonistic role is much more of an extension of a greater threat to the psychonauts. She’s the “daughter” of a psychic villain, Dorian Doom, who is attempting to use the ability of precognition to make himself some sort of future lord by giving him the ability to manifest potential futures into reality as he seems fit. She’s sort of a henchman/figurehead role, interacting a lot with the Psychonauts as if she were the main brains behind the operation to shield suspicion from him.

She’s definitely given the psychonauts a lot of trouble, but I think as of recently she’s under observation after being taken down during a big fight against the psychonauts. Mayhaps she’s building a trustworthy repertoire by using her foresight to give Raz and his team little helpful hints when they go rush into missions.

She is Definitely building a very trustworthy relationship with Dogen and definitely not trying to get him to let her out of whatever observation chamber/system they have her in. It’s totally cool and normal.

What’s the significance of Rafa calling Roger “Rogelio”? I feel like I’m missing some cultural or linguistic context.

Hey! I'm not a native Spanish speaker (and if someone is pls confirm this) but for hispanohablantes, I think as far as my knowledge, we add endings to other people's name as a way of showing affection/closeness. This doesn't necessarily mean it's smth romantic, in fact it's usually used in a brotherly/close friendship manner.

The ones I know are usually endings for "small" so instead of adding the adjective pequeño (= small or little), we can use the diminutive suffix -ito, -ita, -itos or -itas, changing someone's name for instance from Pep to Pepito etc. Maybe the close translation to english is like "Little - (person's name)". Rafa uses a bit of an unfamiliar one (-elio), it could be that he's alluding to this or simply trying to make Roger's name Spanish sounding lol. Either way, it's safe to say tho, that you don't really do this unless you know the person really well or at least have a sense of familiarity that they won't be offended by the nickname, Roger is a bit difficult to measure in this context because he doesn't really speak Spanish, but from Rafa's side I think it's clear that he feels a degree of closeness to Roger that enables him to confidently give him a nickname, AND use it in front of him (not only referring to it in third party).

In a Spanish interview also said that he uses it only when him and Roger are in 'small company' probably in front of their teams and players they're both familiar with, which also adds to the argument that it's an affectionate nickname, a bit like an inside joke between them two! 🤗

Story Study: Luka Couffaine in MLB S4E2, Truth

New blorbo official announcement: Luka Couffaine from Miraculous Ladybug.

(As of S5 episode Migration, pls no spoilers)

He's always been a pretty cool character, but I first got really excited about Luka in S4, episode Truth, when Marinette (his girlfriend at the time) refused to tell Luka her secret (about being a superhero). Luka was understandably quite upset and Shadow Moth tried to take advantage of this to akumatize him into the villain Truth - able to uncover secrets.

Luka resisted this. At this point in the series, resisting akumas was still RIDICULOUSLY rare and unheard-of and took a stunning amount of willpower. And he resisted it because - as he said - secrets can't be forced. That's smth he believed on principle. He wasn't gonna violate someone like that.

He did this EVEN THOUGH HE WAS ALREADY GENUINELY UPSET AT HER (and with good reason). He did this despite the immense temptation even being spoken to by Shadow Moth puts someone under. This is - excuse me - a stunningly miraculous display of self-control, morals, and strength of character. I've admired Luka ever since.

He did end up getting akumatized, but not before shouting at Marinette to run, fully aware he was about to become a villain without any real control over his actions.

And like - yeet, I do so love when characters are aware they're about to lose control - through no fault of their own - and are fighting with every last shred of their being to hold onto themselves, but some villain is slowly, inexorably, digging deeper into their soul and STEALING THEIR BODY, using it - using THEM - that's such an intimate violation I'm stunned speechless and it gets me every time.

(Tangential but - this is esp true if you're aware inside while it's going on - the guilt? The shame? That's YOU hurting your friends, your hands, your words - and there's nothing you can do to stop it and also it's your own out-of-control emotions that did this anyway (and maybe some tiny part of you feels justified and you hate that, too) - maybe this is why everyone forgets what happened afterward. Suppressed memories.)

Ofc if the character doesn't know it or forgets or its not actually made into a narratively significant thing (in MLB this happens at least once an episode, if not more) well then, it can't be impactful. Characters have to express smth to give the audience permission to also feel it. To acknowledge, yes this is as bad as it looks. Instead of moving on and making you wonder if that was really the intent. Sit in the emotion for a moment. Also bc, then you can get punched in the feels over the CHARACTER getting punched in the feels, and that's really the point of fiction. I digress.

But once the character ACKNOWLEDGES it like Luka does here??? THEN you can feel it!! YEET AND YIKERS YALL, I'M GONNA SCREECH!!! He KNOWS he's about to lose control, he knows the danger of akumatized villains - he's BEEN akumatized before, he was Silencer - and also since he knows the TARGET of his emotions is Marinette?? And she'll be the first in danger?? THIS IS MONUMENTALLY DISTRESSING!! To the point that he resists!! Successfully! For a good while! This is a legitimate violation of his physical body and he makes it CLEARLY known. And the reason is that if he utilized the power Shadow Moth is giving him, THAT'D BE A VIOLATION OF MARINETTE'S PRIVACY TOO!

Most MLB characters don't acknowledge the violation when they're getting akumatized bc they're already so fully under Shadow Moth's thrall by the time he even speaks to them. In other words they don't have the self-control, self-will, self-awareness, or desire to do so. Luka tho - YEET. Luka knows and he feels and he has a strong sense of morality amd responsibility and he FIGHTS. That's all it comes down to really. If a character can FIGHT for mastery of his own body. That's strength there.

ANYWAY! Luka became one of my fav characters (not more than Adrien tho, but Adrien's a whole 'nother post lol).

I wish he got more screentime. Characters fighting, resisting, sacrificing for their convictions - YEET that gets me. Characters sacrificing for PEOPLE THEY LOVE??? EVEN BETTER

Characters sacrificing for people they love WHEN THEY'RE NOT FEELING TOO HAPPY WITH THOSE PPL RIGHT NOW? MAKING THE LOVE UNCONDITIONAL??? AKGGHALFHALFNSLFHAKFBALHFKH

Characters resisting external villains for all that? Amazing. Characters ALSO resisting THEIR OWN SELVES - THEIR OWN DESIRES - ON TOP OF IT?? I'M GOING FERAL

i am terrible at rmbr'ing lines but when he meets team 7 and his reaction is "my first impression of you is... i hate you all" is the fucking funniest shit to me. first, he lets those 12yo kiddos wait for hours and then has the gall to tell them he hates them lmfao king shit i love him (also, what a lying liar. they're his kiddos and he loves them)
