I love that, in Tears of the Kingdom, the Ganondorf amiibo drops thick chunks of beef. Nintendo knows exactly what this man is about, and I salute them.

I think what chronically upsets me about TotK is that. So much of it could have been so good with so little change.
I am into Zelda as a sacrificial, wondrous and silenced creature who must literally carry the blade of the hero as a wound inside her forehead and silently wait to be humanized again --and the injustice of a kingdom built on such a premice doomed to repeat itself, especially if the kingdom was founded on such dubious grounds to begin with. I am into Ganondorf forcing the present to reckon with the past through the most violent clash, forsaking everything that made him a person while sinking down into petty vindictiveness until no connection and no humanity remains, even though independance was what he was trying to protect in the first place. I am into Link as somebody trying to hold onto his most important connection to the world he once knew being used to force him into a conflict that has ultimately nothing to do with him (sure that's SS again but, it could have been explored even further). I am into Rauru as this self-important, self-made king who used his own association to godhood to live out a power fantasy that refuses to ever be acknowledge as such, maybe compounded by the fact he is one of the last of his species and feel, himself, the crushing weight of their fading heritage?
I don't know, the Tears of the Kingdom or something????
But, it all tragically depends on one crucial thing, which is to allow hylians to be wrong sometimes.
And it's wild to me how all of this incredible potential to comment on the series' history and the characters' role in it is just. Flattened into nothing, because Good must be Good and Evil must be Evil, and Hyrule must be righteous at literally every cost --even if it means nervously rewriting their own history through convoluted logic that rejects conflict and depth and vulnerability at every turn.

day 5: okay i finally got to Yona and completed the Zora's Domain Temple... I'm comforted to know that Yona and Sidon are in an arranged marriage,,, honestly- there's no way these guys are actual in love (I say this as a Sidlink shipper, but if you enjoy Yona and Sidon together more power to you) I mean I read the tablets and Sidon thinks of Yona as a big sister, canonically, and all at once suddenly was thrust into an engagement with her. They're great friends, but I'm choosing to believe this is a lavender marriage and both parties are gay so Sidlink can prevail and Yona already has a gf in her own Domain. BTW tho I LOVE Yona! ! ! Her theme is so pretty, she is so pretty... tbh i think im a little gay for her :flustered: soooo the real ships are Sidon x Link and Yona x Me okay
Speaking of tablets, WOW cool lore like Mipha could canonicalaly speak to Sidon from beyond the grave and Sidon is the direct descendant of Princess Ruto.
THE TEMPLE WAS AWESOME BTW. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT WAS SO WELL DESIGNED. THE MUSIC, THE BUBBLES, THE FLOATING!!! I LOVED THE FLOATING SO MUCH... OUGH. IT REALLY WAS JUST PERFECT. usually water temples are the worst but this was was amazing <3 good job and give whoever thought of that floaty underwater feeling a RAISE IMMEDIATELY.

this is my favorite comment i’ve ever gotten on a loz comic bc like. do you have any idea what i would sacrifice to be paid by nintendo to serialize a legend of zelda game in comic form. the things i would do to be able to write a full loz manga. you are genuinely just asking me to do my dream job

they sent my wife home from work ostensibly for using a cane, even though it didn't interfere with her duties as a medical resident and the whole point was she was well enough to work with the extra support. (even the most charitable interpretation, that they assumed the presence of a mobility aid meant she was too ill to work regardless of what she said, is a serious issue.) happy disability pride month I guess, kirby's fixin to start whackin.

tears of the kingdom could have been so good if it were built around like, its story or its characters instead of being a clunky shell to show off the mechanic no one asked for that it forces you to use

look my main takeaway from totk that isn't massively spoilerrific is that zelda games tie into each other only when the devs say they do and even then they can discard details whenever.
if you want to find connections you can and no one's stopping you
but the devs are not interested in creating a consistent timeline they are interested in making a fun game
so basically do whatever you want

legend: why is there a brothel—
twilight, covering wild’s ears: shhhhhh
twilight: don’t say that in front of children
wild, who had a guy try to coerce him into “hanging out” together in his camping tent: yup. the child. that’s me. i have noooo idea what you’re talking about. i’m innocent and pure, yessir
