My Grimoire Research Library
this is a list of my major resource I've referenced/am currently referencing in my big grimoire project. For books I'll be linking the Goodreads page, for pdfs, websites and videos i'll link them directly.
There are plenty of generalised practitioner resources that can work for everyone but as I have Irish ancestry and worship Hellenic deities quite a few of my resources are centred around Celtic Ireland, ancient Greece and the Olympic mythos. If you follow other sects of paganism you are more than welcome to reblog with your own list of resources.
Parts of my grimoire discuss topics of new age spiritualism, dangerous conspiracy theories, and bigotry in witchcraft so some resources in this list focus on that.

Fitz Fellow propaganda masterpost
He's so big and strong, but he has such a soft voice. He's a gardener, and he's very in-tune with the plants and the workings of the environment. His theme is beautiful. He has a fiancé named Penny Pointer, and although he loves her very much, she doesn't understand the ways he shows affection. For example, he bred a flower to look just like her - hair, dress, everything. But she doesn't care for plants, so it just sits there, wilting. She doesn't even seem to recognize its emotional significance.
"Turns out Penny isn’t particularly interested in… looking after plants. So - I go into her room every now and again. When she’s not there. Water the flower. Change the soil. Just… trying to keep it alive."

familiars
familiars are beings that assist those who practice magick. the idea of familiars has been around for a long, long time, though they are mostly associated with 16th-17th europe, but they have roots all the way back to the paleolithic and neolithic concepts. this is found in cave art depicting scenes that are thought to represent magical themes. many of these ancient animals became popular animals for familiar spirits, which indicates that it may be ancient traditions and practices surviving through generations. it’s also seen that many familiar spirits are associated with animals of pagan deities.
most of the modern-world ideas of witchcraft stem from europe after this rise of christianity, and familiar spirits are no different. in 1233 pope gregory ix issued a decree declaring that cats are associated with witchcraft, which caused a mass killing of cats in europe. this purge of the furry creatures led to a rise in europe’s population of rats, which eventually helped to spread the black plague (1347) around europe. cats are often thought to be a similar energy as women, which is why they became such a prominent depiction of familiar spirits. in 1318 pope john xxii sent nine alleged witches to be be prosecuted for a multiple magical practices. in 1563 queen elizabeth issued a witchcraft statute that created a penalty for anyone who is found guilty of conjuring “evil and wicked spirits”.
in the witchcraft trials in europe, “familiar” was often interchanged with words like “imp”, “demon”, or “devil”. it was believed that these spirits sought after witches and attached themselves to them. the witch was then thought to have no choice but to keep the spirit. it was also thought that familiars had names and that the witches did not choose them.
the lore surrounding familiars indicates that witches receive a familiar spirit once they are initiated into the witches’ sect.
one common thing in literature involving familiars is them taking transporting their witch to the sabbat.
a familiar can choose you, or you can choose a familiar. when going about choosing a familiar, many witches use natural affinity. they wait until they find an animal they are drawn to, using their intuition to choose. some, on the other hand, do a journey quest through the astral plane for their familiar.
familiars being sentient beings, they may display inappropriate or unacceptable behavior (by human standards) on some occasions. as time passes in a relationship between a familiar and a witch, it’s likely that the familiar will grow independent and be less compliant. one way to fix this issue is by using seals.
the genesis seal creates a link for a familiar with the material realm. the snake represents the cycle of rebirth. the spirals represent the power of transformation. the number three represents the forces that bring manifestation: time, place, and energy.
the seal of calling is used to evoke/invoke/summon your familiar spirit. the cloud represents manifestation of spiritual forces. the spirals represent the portals to the otherworld. the hand represents the opening of a magical portal.
the seal of departing will send your familiar back to the otherworld. the cave pictured represents the gates to the underworld. the three spirals symbolize transformation. three is the number of manifestations. the fourth stars represent north, east, south, and west respectively.
the seal of protection is to call upon the protective power of your familiar.
philosophy
philosophy is often considered the science of estimating values. it is used to arrange things into order of priority. the mission of philosophy (a priori) is to establish a connection or relation between the visible world to the invisible world, as well as to find the ultimate cause or nature of events or things.
many philosophers have defined philosophy as many different things, so below are some of the most famous definitions of philosophy.
”the science of things divine and human, and of the causes in which they are contained” -cicero
cicero states that philosophy is to study humanity and it’s connection to the divine sources, as well as to establish a reasoning to our containment in corporal forms.
”the science of effect by their causes” -hobbes
this one is pretty self explanatory. hobbes is defining philosophical as cause and effect and the study of them.
”the science of things evidently deduced from the first principles” -descartes
descartes is defining philosophy as the study of things that originate from the divine, often being the first things to thought to have been conceived. many of these first principles revolve around the elements.
”the science of truths, sensible and abstract” - de condillac
here, we have it defined as the study of truth. this truth can be logical or reasonable, like how nature works or it’s components, or even how the soul was created. anything that could be deduced to be a truth.
philosophy is often categorized under six generalized headings which may be broken down further.
the first topic falling under philosophy is metaphysics. this is what is often associated with the study, as it is dealing with abstract, unknown topics, and things outside of the reach of human knowledge.
next is logic. logic is what helps to keep philosophy balanced in its ideas and keeps insane ideas that make no sense being thrown out. these laws that govern our rational thinking are often referred to as the “doctrine of fallacies”.
ethics is the science of morality, individual responsibility, and character. this is where philosophy begins to sink into good vs evil, what is morally incorrect, etc. ethics is concerned primarily with the nature of being good.
psychology is the study of mental phenomena.
epistemology is the science of the nature of knowledge and the question is whether it exists in an “absolute form”.
asthetics is the science of the nature of and the reactions that are “awakened” by beauty.
the ideal function of philosophy is to serve as the stabilizing influence in human thought.
there are many schools of philosophy, although few are known to the common public. the ionic school was founded by thales who believed the primal element to be water and the earth to float upon it. he died in 546 b.c., passing the school onto his student, anaximander. he believed infinity made up all things. his successor, anaximenes, asserted air to be the first element of the universe, thinking even the god(s) were made of it. archelaus, another member of the ionic school, thought all things to be twofold. mind and air, resulting in fire and water. heraclitus, who is sometimes grouped with the ionic school, believed the primal element of the world to be fire, and that the world would eventually be consumed back into flame.
pythagoras of samos founded the pythagorean school. he thought math to be sacred. anyone who came to learn from pythagoras was to learn arthimetic, music, astronomy, and geometry. he was among the first to establish a community where everyone was of equal use. archytas, a member of the pythagorean school, is credited with the invention of the screw and the crane. he declared pleasure as a disease, and believed that a man who does no deceive is “as rare as a fish without bones”.
the eleatic sect was founded by xenophanes. he believed all things to be eternal, and thought the world to have no beginning and no end. to him, everything could be corrupted. leucippus said the universe to be one part full, and one part vacuum. democritus agreed with this atomic theory, but expanded upon it with his own thought. he said the principle of all things was atoms and vacuum. he believed the soul was an atomic structure and could die with our bodies. he thought the mind to be made of spiritual atoms.
cryptids
a cryptid is defined as an animal that has been claimed to exist, but we have no proof of.
the australian big cat (briagolong tiger, jamberoo tiger, kingstown killer, nightgrowler, tanjil terror, etc.) they are said to be nocturnal animals, even becoming louder with their growls/shrieks during the night. they are reported to be i afraid of both humans and cars, although they mainly prey on sheep by beheading them. there are many possible sightings of this cat, although physical descriptions vary. sightings began in 1909 when a large, black cat was sighted in the hills around jamberoo, new south wales. in the mid-1930s to the mid-1950s, a big cat that could allegedly eat an adult sheep in one sitting was investigated near briagolong, victoria. in emmaville, new south wales, there was a large, black cat reported multiple times. in 1956-1957, 340 sheep were killed on a single ranch. the case was declared solved on at least two occasions, but the tales continued on. in the late-1960s, early-1970s, and mid-1990s there were resurgences of sightings of the panther-like creature. in cordering, western australia, there was a report of a large cat that could kill sheep with “surgical precision”. many of them had their skin peeled back and the meat taken of their bones. kangaroos were also found with fatal puncture wounds.
bar-manu is a creature of central asia. it is described as very muscular, and covered with dark hair. it has short, guttural cries, but does not speak. it’s behavior describes it as an omnivore. their tracks are human like with the feet facing inward. in in the hindu kush range in 1977, purdum khan watched one of these creatures. he described it to eat leaves and ant-larvae.
basilisk is a creature of europe and north africa. it is described as anywhere 12 inches to 20 feet in length with a bright white spot upon its head. it later came to be described as a bird sporting a rooster’s comb and a snake’s tail. it’s described as moving with its middle portion up. the basilisk is said to be born from a cock’s egg that is hatched by a toad or snake. in roman temples, its skin was used to protect from spiders, snakes, and birds, as it was thought to deter them. if a basilisk were to see it’s own reflection, it would cause the creature’s death. in italy (1212), a basilisk was said to have killed many people until pope leo iv destroyed it with a prayer. this same year another was thought to be found in a well. in 1587, two polish children were killed by what was thought to be a basilisk. they were found dead in the cellar by a servant.
demonology
everyone knows the idea of a demon’s name holding power. in the catholic rite of exorcism (roman ritual), the name of a demon is important. this importance comes from the gospel of mark and the gospel of luke. when jesus was confronted by a possessed man, he requests the name of the demon before exorcising it, which implies that the name of the demon has power over it. in fact, this idea goes back to ancient belief from babylon, sumer, and akkad. names of demons and devils are thought to act as a beacon, calling them to our world when their names are said. this idea is actually a large reason there are many nicknames for satan. in the middle ages in europe, they began to come up with names like old nick or old scratch, hoping this would give the the devil less power over their life. many demons are presented as fallen angels, meaning they keep the usual suffix for angelic names like -ael or -iel.
a large impact on european concept of demons comes from the testament of solomon. this book presents demons as a force that torments humanity with death, disaster, and disease, as well as showing them being compelled or bound by their names. the testament of solomon also introduces demons to be fallen angels or the children of said angels after they had come to earth. this knowledge was already present in many pagan religions, but it became relevant to christians with its introduction to the bible.
grimoires
grimoires are books of magick. their name derives from the old french word “grammaire”, which refers to all the books written in latin, but the term began to be used for books of magick specifically sometime around the 18th century.
these books have been viewed as possessing an incredible amount of power, and only those properly initiated into the mysteries were meant to read them. many early grimoires detail demons, angels, elemental spirits, and other beings.
many early grimoires are devoted to summoning and controlling demons. the spells in these grimoires are said to read similar to latin priestly orientations. this is due to the fact that many of the traditions in these grimoires were practiced by members of the clergy. members of the clergy were often the only ones with the literary abilities to read, write, or copy these texts.
despite members of the clergy practicing with demonic magick, western europe was being swept up in the persecution of witches. with the mania at the time, these texts detailing demons became known to be associated with witchcraft and satan.
the demonology of western europe came forth from many key sources like the bible, the qabbalah, hellenic magick (curse tablets, magical papyri, etc.), and the mythology of ancient middle east.
demonic possession likely comes from ancient sumerian ideas of demons of illness inhabiting the human body to cause disease.
egregores
an egregore is “a psychic entity composed of and influencing the thoughts of groups of people”. while this is a common meaning of the word today, there is an older meaning to it. in ancient practices, egregores were a home or conduit for psychic intelligence of a non-human nature. they were essentially defined as non-human humans. they connect the world we live in with the invisible world. for the word derives from the greek word égrégoros, which means “wakeful” or “watcher”. godwin believed these creatures to be originated from ancient greece and rome. their daily practices and lifestyles were focused towards preserving the harmony between the invisible world and the material world. an important factor is that egregores are created and sustained from belief, ritual, and sacrifice. egregores were formed to protect over important areas to the greeks and romans. as long as offerings and devotions continued to these beings, they would protect and serve those who served them. when new cults came into being and the energy of worship was directed elsewhere, however, the agreement is broken and the egregore will stop protecting the specified land and its people.

A Song of heart and blood - part one | Daemon Targaryen x Targaryen!Reader
Summary: After an horrible prophetical dream, you find yourself traveling through time to try and save your sister, Daenerys, from her fatal ascension to the Iron Throne. During your mission, your heart derives you from your duty and you fall in love with your ancestor
Word count: 2.3k
masterpost
A/N: The time-traveling part was heavily inspired by Outlander
Tumblr media
-
While most of Valerian descent are born dragonriders, very few have been dreamers.
The first known dreamer had been Daenys Targaryen, known as 'the Dreamer'. She had foreseen the Doom of Valyria in a dream twelve years before it happened, causing her father to relocate the family and its dragons to Dragonstone, thus securing House Targaryen's future as the last known dragonlord family in the world and the rulers of the Seven Kingdoms.
Then, Aegon I Targaryen, Viserys I Targaryen, Helaena Targaryen, Daemon II Blackfyre...and you.
The castle in King's Landing was completely destroyed, except for the Iron Throne. Your sister, Daenerys, was walking toward it, the new queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She touched the throne, a faint smile curling on her lips. Behind her, a man with dark hair had entered the room. They began talking – arguing – about some matter you couldn't hear. A kiss was shared and, as the two kissed, the man stabbed her in her heart with his dagger.
Had you told Dany about your dream, she would've laughed and said it was just that: a dream. Deep down, you could feel that it was something more. A dragon dream, as they call it in the books. A prophecy.
You had to do something to prevent your sister's tragic end. Talking her down to go after the Iron Throne was a losing battle. Dany was strong-headed; she would never accept to give up what was rightfully hers, even if you told her about your dream.
She didn't believe in that sort of thing, anyway.
The days following your dream, you found yourself in your head a lot. You couldn't look at your sister without seeing the blood leaking from her mouth and nose after that man had assassinated her. It had become difficult to close an eye at night, knowing what would happen to her in the end.
You had to do something.
A few days later, you packed your bag and went on your own to know more about prophecies. Leaving her with the Dothrakis worried you, but Ser Jorah had sworn protection to her. He'll keep her safe while you'll be gone.
*
After seven moons doing some heavy research away in the Free Cities, you found a woman of old age who knew about Dreamers and prophecies. She told you the only way to keep a foretelling event from happening was to fix the mistakes that led to it – albeit it being close to impossible. Prophecies always find a way to come to pass.
''Time traveling?'' you repeated with a doubtful furrow of your eyebrows.
The woman nodded. ''There is this old tale about a High Priestess who practiced different sorts of sorcery using the power of R'hllor. According to the tale, she has revived a man who had been stabbed enough times to empty himself of his blood, and knew details only someone who had lived in the past could know of. She is rumored to have lived hundreds of years, all thanks to her magic.''
''How may I find her?''
''Unfortunately, the High Priestess has been burned to the stake many decades ago, but her grimoire has not been found. She lived in a crept in Volantis, where I assume her grimoire still is. You might find what you need in it.''
''Would it save my sister? Going back in time.''
''Possibly.'' The woman
''You got to find the exact moment, the trigger time-stamp that started the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty.''
Was she talking about your father's descent into insanity? Had he not been held prisoner for half a year by a rebellious lord, perhaps he would not have let his paranoia cloud his judgment or let his cruelty grow. Perhaps Ser Jamie Lannister, a member of his own Kingsguard, would not have killed him.
Unless the prophecy went back longer ago? When did House Targaryen begin losing its power?
According to Maester Yandel, the biggest losses of House Targaryen happened during the Dance of Dragons, a major civil war in the history of the Seven Kingdoms. It destroyed many cadet and lesser branches of the Targaryen family - thinning the Targaryen bloodline –, and also eliminated almost all of the surviving dragons at the time – seventeen dragons died during the Dance.
Had the Dance not happened, had Aegon II not been born, it would've made a massive difference in the future of House
''Before you go searching for the grimoire, I shall warn you my lady: any minor change can have a ripple effect that could harm innocent bystanders.''
*
The crypt had taken you weeks to locate.
Each page of the grimoire was made of human skin and written with blood. It was quite gnarly to touch - or smell. The spelling was difficult to decipher. No offense to the High Priestess, but her handwriting was not the greatest. Some of the pages were in High Valyrian – which must've been the High Priestess's first language. Fortunately, you had been taught the language growing up.
Inside, you came across resurrecting spells and fertilization rituals, a handful of curses and poisonous brews, and a time-traveling ritual. They were all using blood magic, which was one of the most dangerous magic, but after seeing your sister ascending her rightful title as queen, to then be killed by her lover – which was somehow not Khal Drogo –, you were willing to risk the danger and consequences of blood magic.
The ritual sounded complex, but was relatively simple. You'll need a gemstone, fire and blood – and a solstice in a specific location. Fortunately for you, the summer solstice was only a moon away. You also needed an object that belonged to the time you wanted to go back to. The dragonglass dagger in your bag will be perfect. It had been given to the princess Rhaenyra by Viserys himself while he was king.
On the week of the Solstice, you began your journey to the ancient stone circle located on a mountain in Volantis. According to the grimoire, one of the stones was large and cleft, through which a time traveler may pass.
Come the Solstice, you waited until the moon was at its highest and started a small fire in the middle of the stone circle while reading a few High Valerian lines. You then added a few drops of your blood to the fire and threw the dragonglass dagger – the fire crackled and the flame grew in height, almost touching your forehead.
You immediately stepped back, startled. This was your first time dabbling in magic. You didn't know fire could be so powerful.
Lastly, you walked up to the large cleft stone, pressed your palm against the cleft.
*
Approximately 170 years before your birth
Since your arrival in King’s Landing, you have tried to be discreet and keep to yourself as much as possible.
As the woman of old age warned you, time-traveling was delicate. Each change – even the smallest – will have a direct effect on the future. A sliver of change done wrong, and the whole future could take a turn for the worse, the Targaryen lineage could be extinct sooner. You and your sister could…not exist.
All you needed to do was prevent Aegon II from being born. That alone should have a huge impact on the Targaryen dynasty – on the future.
You had no idea how you would execute your plan. From what you knew, the queen was expecting and the babe would be born in a couple of weeks from now. That didn't leave you a lot of time. The main issue was, Queen Alicent lived in the Red Keep and there was no way you could sneak in unnoticed. There were guards all around the castle. One was probably posted at the door of her chamber for extra safety.
Every time you took a stroll in the city, you were pestered by sellers. Seafood when in Fishmonger's Square, brewers in Dragon Square, baked goods on the Street of Flour. Everything looked delicious, but the coins in your pocket couldn't be spent on treats.
A brewer was being insistent tonight, trying to get you to try his liquor. You shook your head, politely declining. The bearded man was not taking no for an answer, claiming you must have coins on you because of the jewel around your neck.
The small quarrel grew in volume, catching some citizens' attention, notably a man in a hooded cloak. You wanted to run, but when you took a quick look around to evaluate your options, you caught the man with the hooded cloak's eyes. His eyes were purple and, under his large hood, you saw a glimpse of his silver hair. He was a Targaryen.
When you teleported through the stones, you vowed to yourself to minimize your social interactions and to not directly interact with any of your ancestors to not disrupt the future in times where it wasn't necessary.
You recognized him as Daemon, also known as the Rogue Prince. His dark gray hooded cloak was doing a mediocre job at shielding his identity – at least from the front. Or, perhaps you were just too good at recognizing those who shared your blood.
‘’The woman seems not to be interested.’’
Daemon’s voice cut the brewer's word spitting, making the bearded man raise his head in his direction. Although there was no threat in the prince's words, his tone itself held an authority. It felt commanding.
Had he been a regular man of the city, you would've thanked him. Instead, you ran off.
You didn’t want to be impolite, or come off as not thankful – you were thankful for him stepping in. Without him, the brewer would probably still be pressuring you to buy his liquor. You needed to remain unnoticed during your travels. Thanking Daemon would’ve broken your rule.
You took a left on the Street of Silk and felt eyes on your back. Had the bearded man followed you? No. It was unlikely. After Daemon’s interruption, he had to have given up. Someone was following you, though.
You snaked through the bodies and ran as fast as your legs allowed you.
A few buildings down, the street was splitting. You took another left and hid inside the closest building, which turned out to be a pleasure house – a brothel – , of all places. Just like the streets, it was packed.
You had never been to one of these places before. There wasn’t any around where you grew up. It was…was…uncomfortable. There were naked people – men and women – all around; some were dancing sexually, some were moaning and performing sexual acts of all genres.
‘’Silver hair are difficult to hide, are they?’’
You whirled around and came face to face with the Rogue Prince himself. His hood was still on, but his eyes bore right into yours. Just like yours, they were a shade of purple. His were a lighter color, but no less piercing.
He reached out to twirl a piece of your hair between his fingers, a frown settling between his eyebrows. Your alluring beauty, long and braided silver hair and the Valyrian steel necklace around your neck – a piece of jewelry that once belonged to your mother – were a straight-teller of your Targaryen roots.
‘’Where did you get this?’’ His eyes fixated the jewelry, as if he had seen it before.
‘’My mother.’’
''Valyrian steel, right?’’ You nodded. ‘’I brought the same one to my niece two years ago. I was told there was only one.’’
‘’Perhaps the person you bought it from was mistaken – or they lied to you.’’
Daemon looked at you with wary eyes. ‘’Who are you?’’
The dreaded question. You gulped, nervousness bubbling in your stomach as you tried to think of a quick fake-name. Using Targaryen in this era would stir too many questions.
‘’Y/N. Y/N…Stormborn, my Prince.’’
The last words felt strange on your tongue. It was the proper way to address him, though.
‘’Stormborn?’’ Daemon’s frown deepened, the name unfamiliar. In fact, it was the first time he heard it. ‘’I’ve never heard. Although, you must be of Valyrian blood. Only those with Valyrian blood have silver hair.’’
You shrugged, playing your part. ‘’I would not know. My father lost his life in battle and my mother died during childbirth. I was raised by my brother in Essos.’’
That part wasn’t all false. You only omitted small details…like your father being the Mad King and escaping to Essos after your birth so you, Daenerys and Viserys – your brother –’s lives would be spared.
The man before you hummed. He didn’t know if you were bullshitting him or telling the truth, but he’ll take your words for now.
‘’Have you ever been in Essos, my Prince?‘’ you asked.
The prince didn't get to answer you. Behind you, one of the curtains lining the hallway opened and a drunk man got thrown out of the private room, his erected cock out in the open. A naked woman – assumingly a working whore from the brothel – followed and threw his pants and tunic at him.
‘’No money, no fucking,’’ she spat at him, then walked off.
He bent down to pick up his clothes and tipped forward, visibly too drunk to have any sense of balance, and limply falling against you. His heavy, dead weight caused you to fall forward, your hand reaching for something to grab onto but only finding air.
In good reflex, Daemon firmly gripped your arm, catching you before your face would meet the filthy floor and pulled you against him in a knightly gesture. You ended up with your face in the prince’s chest, the mix of sandalwood, pine and a tinge of red wine seeping through your nose and invading your senses. Gods, he smelled nice.
Had he not been your great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather, perhaps you would have taken advantage of the close proximity and stayed there a little longer.
A light flush creeped to your cheeks and you pulled away. ‘’My apologies.‘’

Invisibility In Witchcraft
Invisibility is something we see in all different types of media for a very long time - superhero comics and movies, Harry Potter book and movie series, fairy tales and lore from several countries. It is one of those powers that even in modern science they have been trying to create true invisible cloaks and armor for military use. Though invisibility in literature and movies is not the same as when we refer to it in witchcraft. So let us talk about this aspect of magic today, a brief history and even some modern day spells.
Tumblr media
What is Invisibility Magic?
Invisibility magic is magic of concealing oneself, others, places and objects from detection. As stated above it is not in the literal sense of you vanishing from sight however think of it like a cloaking device - it helps you go unnoticed or makes you less likely to be observed. Of course take this with a grain of salt - magic has its limits. However, an invisibility spell can help you as an additional buffer of protection. Often times, invisibility spells are to ensure special items you have hidden away go undetected such as your grimoire on a bookshelf or sigils of protection scattered about your home, it can also be used for oneself or others to help them travel in safety.
History
Old manuscripts and grimoires dating back to the 1600s have been found describing spells for invisibility. These such spells include chanting, potions and rituals said to help the caster ‘vanish’ from people’s views or travel unseen. One of these manuscripts has been archived if you wish to see it here and another here please keep in mind these are old scripts and may not be safely done today - do your research on ingredients and if they are safe to use modernly.
Though invisibility in witchcraft is a bit harder to dig up, invisibility has a long and rich history in religion, folklore and tales. Many creatures, spirits and persons of lore, legend and story through the centuries are said to vanish without a trace or go unseen by normal people.
In the cases of witchcraft though it is harder to find information on it, as listed above some old manuscripts were found listing methods of invisibility. Some other methods listed have been carrying the heart of a bat or a toad or frog under one’s garments (or their right arm) can render you harder to detect. Others speak about how black hens and chickens may be related to invisibility by using their feathers as charms. Mercury historically was used as a method to be deemed invisible, with using it to make jewelry or charms a popular method - however perhaps not safe in modern day terms. Another grimoire called “The Second Book of the Secrets of Albertus Magnus” states that wrapping an Ophethalminus stone in a Laurel leaf will render the wielder invisible. What is an Ophethalminus stone? It is commonly accepted and believed he was referring to a Lapis Lazuli stone.

What is Banishing? The How-Tos and Methods
Tumblr media
Banishing is a direct form of expelling energy or spirit from your space. Used to get rid of a specific energy, spirit, or person. Can even be used to banish a bad habit if you really wanted to. It is a strong form of defensive magic versus cleansing which is more of a brush out the door. Banishing is you picking whatever up by the scruff like a wet cat and throwing it out the window.
You can incorporate cleansing and banishing methods together. Make it spicy, get the job done in one go.
Here are some banishing methods that are within my grimoire.
Spiritual
Smoke - Burning Dragons Blood, Frankincense, Hyssop, Rue, Cedar, Juniper, Blackberry Leaves and Pine are great herbs to burn for banishing and purification. You can also make a herbal spray as well.
Candles - Banish from your space using corresponding banishing candle colours like Black.
Herbs - Can be made into satchels, jars, sprays, spellwork and other items for banishing.
Sigils - Create a banishing sigil for your space, self or working.
Powders - Powders like GTFO powder are great examples for banishing's
Witches bells - Witches bells hang on your doorknob or on your door (inside the home) for protection and banishing. When someone comes into the home it rings, banishing negative energy.
Spells - Return to sender, uncrossings and freezer spells are good examples of banishings. Write the target's name on a black candle with intention, dress with corresponding oils, and write a petition to place under the candle to effectively banish them from your space/life.
Energy - Visualize a powerful bubble of protective light of any colour. Visualize it pushing out of your chest and visualize it burning up the energy and pushing it out of your space. Can be energy-taxing so please drink some water and eat a snack.
Black salt - Salt (I use sea) mixed with charcoal, eggshell powder and protective & purifying herbs. Used in warding, banishing and protection. Please be careful around pets with salt as they can get sick if eaten.
Physical
Baths/showers - Submerging yourself in water with banishing herbs and oils. You can also shower with banishing herbal soaps and hang a mesh satchel with purifying herbs over your shower head.
Physical - Literally taking pots and pans, screaming to get out of your house. Both annoying to the neighbors and effective for spirits.
Vocal - Prayer to deity/ancestors/guides/etc for assistance. Prayer from a holy book. Incantations are normally followed by another action like ringing bells.
Feel free to place your banishing methods below!

Yule: The Winter Solstice
⋆꙳ •❅*‧ ‧*❆ ₊⋆꙳ •❅*‧ ‧*❆ ₊⋆꙳ •❅*‧ ‧*❆ ₊⋆꙳ •❅*‧ ‧*❆
Merry meet and welcome to the first pagan holiday of the Wheel of the Year, and the first installment of my Year of the Wheel series! I will practice witchcraft every day this year, and this blog will serve to document my works as well as share them for others' benefit.
Yule
Yule falls on December 21, 2023, where I live. It is the Winter Solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere; it marks the shortest day of the year, the day with the most darkness, but of course this also means the following days begin to get longer. Thus, Yule is celebrated as the beginning and end of the Wheel of the Year: it is the signpost by which we track our years.
Yule is an excellent time to celebrate the past and the future. Practitioners will often use this day to focus on cleansing; to re-affirm bonds, vows, pacts, and wards; to set goals, affirmations, and aspirations; as well as to reflect on the past year and what they've learned and experienced, and how they've grown.
During this time, I like to cleanse the negativity of the past year, embrace the positivity, and prepare for the upcoming one.
Yule Witchcraft
I will be doing a variety of works to celebrate Yule. Unfortunately I have nobody to share Yule with in my personal life, so there will be no feast in my home. Instead, I am conducting the following workings to prepare myself for the year ahead:
A Year Ahead spread. The simplest very first thing I like to do to celebrate Yule and the coming year is a Year Ahead spread. As simple as it sounds, you draw one card (tarot, oracle, your choice--I draw tarot) for each month. The image below shows last year's spread, with January at the top and the other months following deosil (clockwise). This year, I'm following full moons instead--I'll make a post hopefully soon into the new year about those too!
Tumblr media
Creating my grimoire. This one is a little extra, I'll admit. But I just wasn't satisfied with any of the notebooks or journals I could buy, at least not for under $40. So I decided to learn bookbinding and make one. I already have many notes in a digital grimoire for redundancy, portability, and searchability, but I find paper infinitely superior when doing spellwork or rituals. I'll gradually fill it out as I go, and maybe post the finished book / some spreads later.
Creating a tulpa and enchanting a ring. I'll probably (read: definitely. I mean look at my URL) do a post on thought forms in the future but for now Google it if you're unfamiliar. I learned something about myself in therapy recently--about a part of myself that manifests as self-hatred, but truly comes from a place of compassion. I will bind it to a ring I wear daily in order to work with it to serve me instead of hinder me.
Observe the 12 Days of Omen. Just a good tradition to observe following Yule. See tomorrow's post for details!
Cleansing my altar, my space, and myself, as well as re-confirming my wards.
Journalling. About the past year, the next, about my craft and myself. As part of this I may do some trancework and meditation, depending on my mood and time; I would also like to test out the oneiromancy oil and tincture I made (post forthcoming?? oof so many I have planned!).
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave a note. My asks are always open, too. Blessed be 🐻💚

[Part I] | [Part II] | [Part III] | [Part IV] | [Part V] | [Part VII] [☁Masterpost ☁] | [♫The Crimson Zombies Mixtape ♫]
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
You'd learned that Aaron only existed, corporeally, within the confines of the apartment. The reason was still lost to you both, but not for lack of trying. You’d been scouring every resource possible, and listing every theory, to find out what made the most sense. It couldn’t have only been because he died there. Plenty of people died in the building, considering it was built in the 1880s. It was hard to focus on anything other than the way your lives were deeply intertwined with one another. Any attempt to untangle it could result in Aaron ending up in purgatory or you dying. You took “mental health time” off from work. The complexity of the situation broke you, and when you weren’t gorging yourself with coffee, you were pouring over the integral notes you were able to snatch from the grimoire before your grandmother confiscated it from you. Guilt wracked your body. You wanted to save him, but you wanted to save yourself too. And you considered if this was all worth it. On your second week of nothing but caffeine and bloodshot eyes, he’d hidden your laptop and grimoire notes on a shelf too high for you to reach.
“Here’s my ultimatum,” he wrapped his arms around your tense, rigid shoulders, “You either go outside and get some air, or you never get your things back and I summon your Nan to send me to Hell.” You’d become hyper aware of how swiftly the dynamic of your relationship changed after visiting your grandmother. The shared touches and passing glances felt far more charged than they ever had. If you hadn’t been so tired--and feeling particularly stabby--you probably would’ve been charmed by the way he murmured against your ear.
“Fine,” you conceded. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
The kiss he placed on your temple left your skin tingling; you could never get used to it. Maybe you didn’t want to. It was a reminder that the bond was still there and that there was still hope to do…something.
What? You weren’t sure.
It was a wonder you didn’t have a headache when you stepped out onto the lively streets of your neighborhood. As your feet carried you down the sidewalk in a random direction, the sunlight directly attacked your bloodshot eyes like it had a vendetta against you for the obvious sin of necromancy. One crime against nature for another, you thought, and laughed to yourself. Louder than you intended. A few people glanced at you as you passed, but you were too tired to care. “Where are we going?” He asked, walking backwards in front of you with his hands in his pockets. As people passed through him, you caught the slight hesitation and confusion that passed over their features. Some shuddered.
You shrugged, skipping over a giant crack in the pavement. “Just wherever.”
You both continued to walk in silence and you habitually checked on him. He really was beautiful. It wasn’t fair that you couldn’t witness the way the light caught the rich brown of his hair or the splash of freckles across his cheeks. Your fingers twitched at the thought of holding his hand. In another life, would he have wanted you? The question occurred to you more than once when you found him wistfully watching old footage from his previous life. You remembered sitting across from him and tracing the lines of his face because you loved the way he flushed under your touch. Your heart pounded with the memory of his hand on your waist.
“I know a place near here,” he suddenly said, pulling you out of your thoughts. You looked up to find that you’d wandered onto the main street lined with shops you rarely had the bandwidth to visit.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” A bright smile lit up his features, “C’mon. I wanna see if it’s still open.”
He picked up the pace, barrelling through people with the reckless abandon of an eager toddler being chased by their parents. You felt like you were being pulled by an invisible rope; you stumbled as you rushed to follow him. This was new. You made a mental note to look this up in your notes when you returned to the apartment. If he ever returned your shit, anyway. You followed dutifully behind as he crossed one street, and then another, and then rounded a corner and stopped at a storefront.
“Shit! Holy shit!” He laughed, turning to you with pure joy written on his face, “I can’t believe it’s still here. Babe, look!”
Your stomach flipped, but you pushed that aside as you peered into the window of the record store tucked away in the first floor of a brownstone. A few people milled about inside, flipping through some vintage magazines and the boxed record collections. You noticed a few instruments for sale on the wall along with some posters and plaques.
He was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. This was the most excited you’d ever seen him. Of course his inner nerd came out when faced with the possibility of engaging with his first love. He passed through the door without waiting for your response, so you had no choice but to follow.
LCD Soundsystem’s debut album drifted from the speakers. And as he quirked his head to listen to them, you were once again hit with the realization that there were a lot of things he didn’t know about the world. He passed from aisle to aisle, looking at every poster and portrait decorating the walls. You stopped to file through a stack of records labeled M-P for anything you may have recognized. You didn’t even own a record player. But you figured it was never too late to get one. He saddled up behind you and peered over your shoulder as you picked up New Edition's Heart Break, and he hummed in approval.
“That’s a good one.”
You smiled and twirled it between your hands, whispering, “You’re gonna buy it for me?”
“Sure, let me just pull out my roll of hundreds. You can get whatever you want, love.”
You both snorted as you chose to put the album back where you found it. Though most--if not all--of the albums in the store were used, they seemed to be in amazing condition and well taken care of. You found a few artists you’d never heard of, and you figured it’d be nice to stop by again on a day when you had your wallet on you. Suddenly you felt a swooping sensation and you began to feel a little dizzy. And as you grabbed onto the nearest shelf to get your bearings, you looked up to find Aaron staring at something on the wall behind the front counter. He was eerily still, save the rough way he shoved his hand in his pocket. As you approached from behind, you immediately noticed what unsettled him.
On the wall, behind the counter was a corkboard filled with news clippings and photos featuring his band. At the very center was a group photo of Crimson Zombie, much younger than they were when they arrived on American soil. They had to be about 14 or 15 years old. Two of the boys were crouched, holding up a middle finger. The other two were grinning mischievously, also flipping the bird, but with one arm thrown over the shoulders of the other. The one on the right was clearly Aaron in all of his shaggy haired, Britpop glory. The other boy, charming and adorable as ever, was clearly Gavin. Ever the ham, based on what Aaron told you. Scattered around the photo were clippings about the breakthrough, rise, and breakup of Crimson Zombie--later called MARCOS when Gavin decided to do his own thing. Even more macabre was the sliver of an obituary with Aaron’s face on it, and a long list of his accomplishments. Beside you, he swallowed hard. You wanted to reach out and touch him, an impossible feat outside the safety of your four walls.
“Do you want to leave?” You whispered.
Before he could answer, a man poked his head out from the back room and smiled at you.
“Well then, were you lookin’ to be helped?”
With a shock of graying hair, a gap in his two front teeth, and warm brown eyes that crinkled in the corners, you could almost see the young man he used to be. Aaron reached out for you, instinctively, but his hand passed through your arm. You still felt the ice cold chill that seemed to steep into your bones.
“Hi!” You schooled your features into a polite smile, “I was just looking at the, um…” You drifted off but nodded your head in the direction of the memorabilia decorating the wall.
He followed your gaze. Pride colored the bright grin that plastered across his face.
“You know Crimson Zombie, then?” He asked. Despite how long it’d probably been since he last lived in the UK, his accent was pretty thick. “Didn’t last very long, but we were damned good. Really fuckin’ good, actually.”
Aaron stood frozen in place as Danny, his first childhood friend, explained what he’d been doing since the band essentially dissolved in 2007. He couldn’t lie, he felt a level of satisfaction in knowing that they couldn’t survive without him. But then, how could they? They knew Gavin was a murderer. He was hit with the realization that they knew and let him get away with it. Something briefly flared up in him and you glanced at him in concern. You felt it, too. Her fingers twitched toward him like she wanted to hold him. Instead she tapped her leg. He guessed it was a signal that she’d leave if it made him uncomfortable.
Danny looked the same. He still was the massive, joyous guy he was when they were kids. Aaron noticed the ring on his finger and the tattoos he didn’t have before. He was wearing wire rimmed glasses. He had grays in his beard.
Danny was, well, an aging man.
“I bought this shop in 2010 when the previous owner decided to retire to Texas,” his former bandmate explained. He fondly patted the counter and ran his hand over the warped wood, “And this spot is just a short trip from our old spot.”
“Yeah about that…” You began.
No.
“So I know about Crimson Zombie because, um, I--well…”
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye and shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other.
“I live in your old apartment.”
--x--
Aaron watched as you sighed in your sleep. It’d been the first deep sleep you’d had in ages, and it’d only happened because he urged you to. And as cute as it was to watch you huff and glare at him for breaking your marathon of studying, he didn’t fold to your demands. The clock struck 11:00 PM and you sighed again. He wondered what you were dreaming about. It’d been a long day. Danny’s contact information sat on your nightstand, printed on the back of a receipt. He didn’t want to think about it. He wanted to spend the quiet hours of the night not worrying about the bullshit that would come in the morning. He flexed his fingers instinctively, deeply wishing he had his guitar or his bass. Instead he sat by your bed, writing by moonlight because he didn’t want to turn the light on and wake you. It was weird trying to remember how to hold a pen again. His handwriting was abysmal after years of no practice, and he was sure the words were chicken scratch to everyone but him. He laughed softly to himself about the reality of his situation. He’d been given a new life, but he wasn’t…alive. He could actually touch you--and, God, he loved to touch you. He looked over at you again as you breathed deeply through your soft, parted lips. As if compelled by an invisible force, he reached over and ghosted his fingers over the outline of your mouth. As he brushed over the swell of your lower lip, you stirred in your sleep and he pulled his hand away.
“You’re obsessed with me.” You sleepily croaked, peeking an eye open to look at him.
He couldn’t help the smirk that pulled at the corner of his mouth, “You’re the one who's been up for nearly 5 days straight trying to save my soul.”
You hummed and turned over to fully face him, “OUR souls.”
Aaron chuckled. Of course you’d wake up from 4 hours of hard sleep just to argue with him. You sat up and stretched your arms out to either side of you, groaning like you’d been asleep for days.
“Are you alright?” You asked, gently. He nodded. “How long was I out for?”
“Just a few hours.”
“And what’re you writing?”
“Just…journal shit.”
You ooh’d. “Is it about me?”
Aaron said nothing. Not because the answer was wrong, but he didn’t really want to get into it.
“I liked you better when you were sleep deprived and mean to me,” he finally said, “Go back to sleep.”
You countered, “I was asleep until someone decided to try and stick their finger in my mouth.”
He couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out of him. He’d lost count of the number of times you caught him studying you. Or you’d lay next to him, and he’d twirl one of your braids around his finger. Maybe he was obsessed. But judging by the way you curled closer to him in your sleep, and traced the outline of his nose in what you called “scientific fascination,” you weren’t too far off either.
He already knew how he felt about you. It was obvious from the minute you sadly crossed your threshold with boxes of breakup memorabilia. Tonight, he watched you cross the room to stand in the moonlight and look down at the hazy street below. A slight breeze creeped in through the open window, fluttering your too-big t-shirt around your waist and hips. He wasn’t sure who the shirt previously belonged to. It was some sports team he didn’t recognize. For a moment he thought about you wearing one of his band tees and he felt his neck tingle at the image that popped into his head. The second image that followed was from the vision he had at your grandmother’s house: your back to him, wine glass in hand, and your eyes trained on the rain slicked street.
How did you feel about him? Sometimes he thought he knew for sure. Granted, he didn’t expect you to be as deep into it as he was. He had way more time to cultivate his delusions of romantic grandeur. But now he couldn’t help but wonder if you held some level of animosity towards him, even if it was out of his control. He licked his lips as you leaned against the windowsill on your elbows.
“I’m sorry.” He said, voice cracking over the second word. In the reflection he saw you quirk an eyebrow.
“Sorry for what?”
“For this. For putting you in this situation. For complicating your life.”
When you turned to fully face him, he could see the confusion and hurt in your gaze. So he opened his mouth to clarify, but you waved him off.
“Aaron, you didn’t put me in this situation. I’m sure, if you had the choice, you’d be happily living as a 40 something with 17 kids and platinum records under your belt.” You smiled sadly at the thought of what his life could’ve been.
Silence fell between you both. He tried to convince himself that maybe his feelings of guilt were unwarranted. “If I had the choice, I wouldn’t choose that life at all.” He admitted, running his fingers through his curls, “I wouldn’t want any life that doesn’t have you in it. I don’t know. It’s…stupid. But I--it’s--I know I’m not alive. I feel alive because of you. Probably more alive than I felt when I actually was alive. I'm not making any fucking sense."
He found the courage to meet your gaze again, and found you watching him with furrowed brows and your arms crossed securely across your chest.
Naturally, he panicked. “I knew I shouldn’t have said--”
“You didn’t have to say anything, you dork, it was obvious. I’m sorry if I haven't been receptive. I--I’m just really scared. And I don’t know what to do here. I’m stressed, I’m tired. I’m sad.” You wiped your nose with the shoulder of your t-shirt and groaned, “Ugh, and I fucking hate crying.”
It didn’t take much for him to jump to his feet and cross the room to you. He gently held your shoulders and rubbed small circles into your skin, fully embracing the warm vibrations running up his arms. While Aaron tried to offer a comforting smile, he knew there wasn’t much he could say to ease the situation. He dipped his head down close enough for his curls to brush your forehead.
“Hey, look at me.” Your wide, glistening eyes met his and his heart clenched, “It’s okay.”
“It’s not okay,” you licked your lips, “I’m angry that this this happened to you, and I’m so mad that I can’t just fix it. And I know we can’t be together, and I know it’s easier to just pretend like everything will be alright. And I can keep a cool distance. And I act like I’m just this noble person but I’m not. I’m a horrible goddamn person, Aaron.”
Tears rolled down your cheeks and stained the front of your shirt. He instinctively reached to cup your face, brushing your tears away. The warmth intensified, spreading to his chest and shoulders. The heat radiating throughout his body was impossible to ignore now, but you held onto his wrists like a lifeline.
“You could never be a horrible person,” he reassured you, “You’re doing the best you can--”
“I really don’t want to fix it.” You laughed humorlessly, “Isn’t that awful? Fixing it would mean you’re gone, and I’m alone. And I wouldn’t be able to call you on the phone or write to you. I can't visit you. And I’m so mad because you weren’t supposed to be here in the first place. Our paths weren’t supposed to cross. But they did. And I’m just supposed to push you towards that bright white light on the other side and learn how to live with the thought that I’ll never see you again? I’m in too deep and it’s not fair. I want to be selfish and stupid for once.
He searched the heavens for the right words to say. He decided to go with the truth. “I need you to understand that I can’t stay here.”
“I know.”
“No, you don’t get it,” he took a deep breath and swallowed hard, “I. Cannot--will not. Stay here. Staying here means losing you. And I’m not letting you do that. Not for me. I’ll never forgive you.”
Something stirred in you that reflected in the way you looked at him. Maybe it was acceptance. Maybe it was defeat.
“So we’re fucked either way.”
“Yeah.”
Thumbs brushed across your cheeks and you trailed your hands down his wrists. He kissed your nose, your cheeks, and your forehead before settling on your mouth.
It was sweeter than he could’ve imagined. Softer than he imagined. He pulled you closer, backing you into the windowsill and wrapping your bare thighs around his waist. For a moment, he forgot that he didn’t need to breathe. You released his wrists to throw your arms around his neck.
And as you lost yourself in him, he could’ve sworn he felt his heart beat in his chest.
