Episode 4.5 - A TOMODA SPECIAL
A.N./ So yeah I actually wrote it, who would have thought hm. I hope no one takes this seriously.
I realized I deleted the other post so you were left without context.
Anyway, it's a 'what if' scenario where Tomoda finally gets a boy who will care about him in the new friend the MC makes in College, assuming the game the gsnk gang played had a sequel.
...
A rival in love???
The second semester had just begun when a message arrived to Tomoda, his cellphone vibrating excitedly as a name flashed on the screen. Now that was a name he hadn’t heard of in a while. However, even after so long, it was still able to easily steal a breath out of his lungs. For heaven’s sake... All this after he thought he had finally outgrown his high school crush.
Just because he thought he had finally changed and left it all in the past — his dependency on his best friend, and his need to help him even at the cost of himself. It was laughable.
To be honest, Tomoda thought they wouldn’t talk again, since his friend disappeared from the face of the Earth as soon as they were past their graduation; the days passed by and the messages and calls left by Tomoda ended up never being answered, falling into oblivion.
It wasn’t strange for Tomoda to give up and stop hoping for their friendship to go back to the way it was. What was actually strange, at least for him, was the situation itself.
As if all the three years they had been together had meant nothing at all, the Main Character left him behind and didn’t even look back. As if they hadn’t been great friends — best friends — living their daily school lives, studying and chatting and having lunch and going through the hardships that came with growing up and experiencing love for the first time... They had done all those things together, as a pair.
It had been difficult at first, for Tomoda, because he wanted oh so much to see the MC again. However, he held back. Why? Because he had made a decision.
He was tired of following the other around all the time. He had had enough of suffering and hurting himself and losing his sleep just because his friend was blind to his feelings. He was tired of helping him with his crushes, of giving the MC advice on how to approach the girls he liked, when Tomoda himself would never have a chance — because as much as the MC changed girlfriends, Tomoda knew perfectly well he wasn’t in his strike zone. He really did accept that, he had for a long time, and that was the reason why he never told the MC about his feelings of love when they were in high school. He had forced his heart to settle down and resigned himself to be his best friend and nothing more. And then he convinced himself that was okay, that it was better than trying to grab too much and be left with nothing.
However, apparently, his resolve hadn’t been that strong, as it came crumbling down as soon as he saw that name flashing in his phone. Tomoda swallowed six months of pain and threw his pride aside as he gave in.
As much as he wanted to, Tomoda was unable to ignore the MC.
‘That’s because he is, first of all, my best friend,’ he tried to convince himself. It wasn’t a lie, just not all of the truth.
Just as it was in high school, Tomoda could do little against his urge to bid to his friend's every wish. He wanted to see him happy, to make him smile, and to help him achieve the so-called happiness.
So, when he asked him to come visit him at his college, how could he say no?
Little did he know what this action would lead to, for that’s how he got to the current predicament.
Sitting down in awkward silence, Tomoda tried to ignore the guy in front of him. They were at the canteen having a cup of steaming coffee, and this guy didn’t seem in a rush to leave, even though he had been quite persistent in making the MC leave just after they had met after so long.
“I hope you don’t mind me making you two part so soon, but he has his eyes in a certain upperclassmen and I couldn’t allow this chance to pass. I just want things to work out for him,” the guy said. He was smiling and seemed like a gentle, nice guy. Still, he was making Tomoda feel quite uncomfortable.
Tomoda knew he should be happy there was someone by the MC’s side, helping him just as he one day did. It was good that the MC wasn’t alone, since he could be a bit clumsy at times, especially with matters of the heart. This guy seemed reliable and honest, a good person who would be alway ready to hold out a hand. But Tomoda couldn’t help the strange feeling at his gut.
“Nice to meet you, by the way. The name is Juta.” The fresh and friendly smile of the guy in front of him did little against the pain in his chest and the hole in his stomach.
In front of him, Tomoda saw someone a lot like himself, but still someone of their own. His chest ached as he felt his place in the universe being taken by another.
Something felt broken, his heart maybe.
He hoped he could grab the pieces and make it whole again one day.
