Resident Evil Headcanons About my Favorites Because I'm Camping Out in My Room During a Heat Wave. (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER) (Chris, Mia, Piers, and Ethan)

Chris

For as put-together and business first as Chris seems, a large part of it actually is his coping mechanism from The Mansion Incident and the whole litany of viral outbreaks/conflicts Chris has faced. Chris fully swamps himself into his work to escape having to deal with the trauma he's built.

After Chris snaps and goes on a year-long drinking binge to the point he forgets most of his identity following the Edonia incident of RE6 and after Piers's sacrifice at the end of that game. Chris does see a therapist and gets better, but he'd still rather be busy and overloads his plate than be left alone with his thoughts for too long. Thus furthering the self-destructive cycle.

Part of the reason why between the years of 2004-2013 Chris got so FREAKING SWOLE was because Chris is that guy who is in the gym pumping iron for 3 hours a day at minimum like he's fighting demons except Chris is actually fighting/running away from his demons.

I headcanon that Chris is bisexual. He isn't out of the closet so to speak but with how much he burrows himself into BSAA Missions and actual training/office work not many people are openly asking Chris what team he plays for. The only people who know are Claire, Jill, Barry, Leon (Claire let it slip accidentally), Piers, Sheva, Ada (Because it's Ada and she knows everything) and Wesker.

Jill was actually the first person Chris ever came out to. Jill could just tell. Mostly because Wesker was Chris's original bi panic™ and Chris would not shut up about it. This went from crush to abject, seething hatred of Wesker after Chris found out he was alive again at the end of Code Veronica.

It's stated somewhere that about 10% of the population is immune to the T-Virus. (Vanilla T virus not T-Veronica, T-Abyss, T-Phobos, TG, C, or whatever additional viral flavours we're adding) and Chris and Claire are a part of that 10 percent. But Chris also has the ABCC11 gene mutation that causes Chris's sweat to not smell. Conversely, Chris also has the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap and he HATES IT. He has to make a big deal every time he gets Mexican/Indian/Thai/Chinese food because he has to tell the restaurant no cilantro because it will RUIN the dish for him and he feels so bad having to do it every time. (Chris loves Mexican food too)

We don't have any birthday information for any of the more popular resident evil characters so Astrology is basically anyone's guess. But to me, Chris Redfield radiates Aries energy but also very heavy Capricorn energy too.

There's a line that was cut from RE5 where Jill teases Chris for flirting with a woman in the BSAA Tech Department who was a bit younger than him and Chris, embarrassed, denied the accusation. It's not a lie, Chris does like them younger than him. (Use that info as you want/wish) and while Chris denied it with the intern. Chris just tried to pretend the conversation never happened. When Jill, Chris, and Piers were all in the same room together and Jill always would just make eyebrows at Chris. Piers caught her doing it once, but Jill snapped back at him telling him to fall in line.

Chris circa 1997-Umbrella Chronicles absolutely did not learn or even know how to cook. This man lived off of take out, cigarettes, coffee, spite, and still had a damn near perfect Twunk physique. I'll bet once the BSAA got founded and really off the ground Chris realized oh fuck I'm actually in charge of shit now I need to get my life together. And Chris just went from burgers and fries 3-4 times a week for dinner is fine to just competitive bodybuilder school of dieting. And Chris just went in.

Chris, Barry, Jill, and Claire all have Thanksgiving together and they do it twice. Because Barry immigrated to Canada after RE1 the Mansion Incident Survivors plus Claire all always get together for Thanksgiving in October at Barry's house or at Chris/Claire/Jill's living situations every year. The triumvirate always ends up adding another person to the mix. One year Claire has brought Sherry numerous times after RE6. Leon was the most recent of the RE family to come to a Thanksgiving. Jill brought Carlos twice (Chris and Carlos DID NOT get along at first but eventually became friendly.) Chris has brought Piers once. The year prior he brought Sheva.

Chris's cheat meal/drink is so stupid. A venti java chip frappucciono from Starbucks. Chris just likes coffee flavored stuff. Whether it be using ground coffee as a rub on a cut of meat or a rich, espresso ladden tiramisu.

Chris eventually became Rosemary's sort-of surrogate father. After the events of Village the BSAA moved the Winters's back to California so Rose and Mia could be closer to Ethan's family and burial spot. Ethan didn't want to make things more difficult for the family so he had a whole base of operations set up outside the Winters's Northern California (we're talking Redding north not San Francisco north) and Chris really always was just this grump, cranky, older, often disappointed dad to Rose. But Chris had his moments.

Mia

HNNNNNGGGHHH BOY DO I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT MIA AND A WHOLE LOT OF THEN AREN'T POSITIVE.

But this is a headcanon post I'm not going to rip her to shreds. I appreciate her as a complex, complicated character but I just have to say. While Mia sent out the distress call to Ethan in a moment of clarity from her mold infection. Ethan was ultimately the one who chose to try to find Mia. RE7 was Ethan's fault. he could have been completely sane and rational and chose either to take this to the police or to ignore this. But this love-smitten fool decided to fall for the trap and become the main character of Dumpyface: The Louisiana Chainsaw Massacre. RE Village was ALL on Mia. While the Winters's couldn't have foreseen all that went down. Mia knew FULL WELL about Mother Miranda, what her intentions were as a scientist, that Mother Miranda WAS in Romania, that Ethan was indeed very much still infected with the mold, that she knew the full extent of Ethan's infection as well and that this likely wasn't Ethan but that the mold probably re-animated Ethan, and she willingly allows herself to be impregnated by what is essentially a BOW with a consciousness and a good personality.

ANYWAYS.

We actually do know Mia's birthday! In RE7 it's on her driver's license! December 14th 1984. Meaning she's a Sagittarius! (And that makes too much sense for me to be comfortable with!!)

Mia being a researcher with The Connections instead of just being a random handler for Eveline adds such depth to her character (and not in a good way.) Like what makes you become a researcher with a literal bioterrorist organization in the Resident Evil Universe? Umbrella was publicly and openly shunned after The Raccoon Trials. Mia and Ethan would have been middle schoolers/high school freshmen during the Raccoon City Incident. Mia would have HAD to have known the ethical nuking she was doing.

We know she's from Texas so my vague background/life story she has is she was born/raised in Austin to a fairly affluent family. While her family was loving they cared more about her grades and appearances than actually caring about her. She excelled in school and got a full-ride to Rice University in Houston (a school often ranked in the top 10 in the country) and excelled in Biology. With a particular emphasis on biochemistry and particularly mycology. Hence why someone with the connections picked her up.

Mia was originally baited with the idea that what she was doing was experimenting on a fungus that could, in essence, end aging and could even destroy cancers. When she realized what she had gotten herself into The Connections basically told her she can leave if she wants. But they will kill her if she does.

She probably became disillusioned once she realized she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Beginning to take up heavier drinking and not caring about herself. She eventually cut herself off from her family. Her younger brother died when she was a child. And her parents died in an accident right after she started with The Connections. Things were not okay for Mia at the beginning/middle part of her twenties.

Mia probably was sitting down at the bar of a cantina in downtown Austin on one of her rare evenings off. 3 mezcal margaritas and her usual bartender passively concerned about Mia but more concerned about a group of rowdy, twenty-something "tech bros" going on about the upcoming tech boom of people from San Francisco flocking to Austin soon.

Mia felt eyes gazing at her but pretended not to notice. She wasn't in the mood to entertain a boy at this time. Yet when she heard a voice ask why she was sitting all alone she turned to tell him off she stopped in her tracks. She was taken aback by the man. He wasn't a Greek God of a man but he had very appealing physical features and a smile that just made her think the whole world felt lighter. The blond man with a moderately slim build was trying to flirt with Mia but only being about halfway successful. Alcohol was not Ethan Winters' friend that night.

Nothing happened that night and both Mia and the man went their separate ways. Mia couldn't remember if his name was Evan or Ethan by the time she woke up. The next day was a horrific day at the lab in terms of biological horrors so she ended up going back to the cantina only to find the blond man from yesterday back at the bar sitting in her spot. Mia had playfully joked about how he was sitting in her seat. Ethan just retorted back that he didn't think he was back in high school to which Mia just let out a gruff chuckle. "Besides. You're much more beautiful than the girls I went to school with." The words took Mia back both by the abruptness and just how frank and honest Ethan was being. The two stayed at the bar till closing time that night.

Mia and Ethan soon started seeing each other more frequently. Every weekend at the cantina became once a week at the park, then became Ethan dropping off lunch at Mia's lab. (At the gate of course. Poor stupid Ethan had no clue he was putting his and Mia's lives at stake.) which eventually became the two of them moving in together.

The Connections quickly found out about Ethan and while they didn't forbid Mia from dating and eventually marrying him. They monitored Mia even closer now and made her take on more of the harsher approach and take on more hands-on experiments. With her superiors asking her almost every day about Ethan. Mia knew that Ethan was in danger but she loved him. And Ethan loved Mia. Ethan loved Mia more than she had ever felt love by anyone else in the world. The Connections could burn in hell. She wouldn't let them step between what they had.

My Headcanon is that right before Mia "went missing" when the transport tanker crashed in the hurricane in Louisiana prior to RE 7. Mia had finally concocted a plan to escape The Connections, turn herself into authorities, and attempt to get her and Ethan into the witness protection program. The Connections caught onto what she was doing and placed her as Eveline's handler during the treacherous voyage.

After Ethan passed Mia was relocated to Northern California at her request to at least be somewhat closer to Ethan's mothers. Chris reluctantly agreed and gave Mia and Rosemary a small security detail. Mia eventually did end up serving some time for her role in The Connections (like 9 months. Should be more but hey) and now she works remotely as a high school biology teacher for a remote GED/Homeschool program.

Piers

*through gritted teeth* Twink

In all seriousness Piers is such an interesting character. He actually has a character compared to your generic idealized action survivor tropes. And is character is that he's an asshole. Like as much as I love Piers I need everyone to take a second and look back at a YouTube run of Chris's RE6 campaign. Piers is not a nice person. Nor is he a good one. Ethically and morally yes, but he falls perfectly in the box of lawful asshole.

Like I love your Piers, I really genuinely do, and I know losing your daddy I mean captain was really hard for you. That being said it wasn't your brightest position to hunt down a bitter alcoholic with a temper and force him to lead a mission of bright-eyed soldiers into a literal war zone of zombie mutants.

ANYWAYS HEADCANONS AGAIN I NEED TO STOP RANTING ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS.

Piers and Chris fucked. You physically cannot convince me otherwise. Like I'm sorry I'm not sorry that you're wrong. You're just wrong if you think otherwise. I'm literally begging you to go back and look at the RE6 Chris campaign and all the supplemental material. In Revelations 2 this man literally has the gaul, the tenacity, the AUDACITY, AND the GUMPTION to email Claire DIRECTLY. Address her very formally, and asks for pictures of Chris when he was younger. What normal person does that. Like Piers babygirl I need you to stop.

If any of the RE men are going to be a yandere whose name isn't Albert Wesker. His name is Piers Nivans. He gives me crazy stalker ex vibes but in a hot way because he is hot.

We know Piers came from a long line of military men. That just happens in America. Some people are just products of that machine. Yet his parents were somewhat disappointed with Piers choosing to go with the BSAA as opposed to sticking with the US Army. I have a feeling his parents also didn't know about Piers's sexuality either but I'm not trying to think about potentially negative things.

Name a Resident Evil character with more Scorpio energy than Piers. I'll wait. His facial features scream Aries rising but that man has heavy Scorpio in his birth chart. Most likely in his sun, moon, and even Venus and Mars most likely. He just has those Scorpio eyes that make you feel like he's staring into your freaking soul man.

It may shock you but I get the vibes that Piers is from, of all places, Colorado. Colorado Springs to be exact. Very heavy military town out in the mountains. No real easily discernable accent. Piers was kind of equated to the "All-American Boy" trope.

Piers is a polyglot. He can speak English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese fluently. He's conversational in German, Dutch, Chinese, Indonesian, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Swahili. Before he passed he was studying Arabic.

Piers played Baseball and Hockey growing up and being from Colorado he's an avid ice-skater and snowboarder, particularly Alpine snowboarding. Fun fact that's not so fun as a fact. Piers's most prized possession was a $2k customized Jones alpine snowboard. When Chris went to Piers's quarters back at BSAA HQ after RE6 one of the things he found was Piers's snowboard. Chris was given it with the permission of Piers's family where Chris got it sealed in resin and it's framed in his apartment.

Piers wasn't necessarily in charge of the aux at Chris's BSAA squad group but Piers challenged the last person to a fight and Piers beat the SHIT out of them so Piers controls the music. Hope the BSAA Alpha team likes Santana, Nelly, Linkin Park, Jimmy Eat World, Usher, Madonna, Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, and Pink.

Speaking of fights. Do not fight Piers. He may be a whole 155lbs at 5'9 inches tall but this man has pure, carnal, horrific rage if pushed far enough. He got called the F-slur once in high school and it was by the star football quarterback trying to get attention and be a dick. Two cracked ribs, 5 teeth knocked out, an eye almost out of it's socket and a major concussion and three broken knuckles out of Piers later. No one was ever calling Piers that again.

How does Piers stay so lean you ask dear Resident Evil fans who somehow are still reading this? He has Celiac Disease AND is very lactose intolerant. Piers literally cannot eat ANY of the fun foods without having to dedicate 2-5 hours a day on a toilet. Like he'll be fine if he has a burger on a regular bun but he's gonna regret in about 2-3 hours.

Piers is concerningly well organized. His bed is always made and in perfect shape. He has a shoe holder, so many organizers for things like toothbrushes, sports equipment, laundry, (Piers genuinely does 3 separate loads of laundry for colors, whites, and misc)

What's Piers's one secret food weakness (he'll love you forever if you get him this) snow cones, specifically Hawaiian shaved ice. Coconut and mint flavored Hawaiian shaved ice. Everyone on the squad has tried it and Chris was the only one who didn't spit it out. Telling Piers "the flavors work it's just not my thing"

Ethan

Mr. Moldman, bring me a meme (bung, bung, bung, bung)

Ethan is so fun to headcanon about because Capcom literally gave us ✨nothing✨ other than he's an engineer and the world's greatest dad.

Ethan was adopted in my Headcanon. His birth mother was in her mid-teens when she had Ethan and gave him up after he was born. Ethan's birth farther wasn't in the picture and didn't want anything to do with him and neither did Ethan's birth mom really. He did meet his birth mother right before he went off to college but when he found out she had a new family of her own and she made it known she didn't necessarily want him to be a part of her life, it shattered him. Ethan never got a chance to meet his birth father as he had passed when Ethan was still a child.

Don't be too sad though. Ethan grew up in San Francisco and after he was given up he was quickly adopted by another family. His adoptive mother and father were so ecstatic about their new baby boy. Unfortunately said marriage didn't last and his adopted parents separated when Ethan was about 3. Ethan's adopted mom got custody of Ethan and she eventually came out of the closet and got into a partnership with another woman.

Ethan's Dad still was a part of Ethan's life and Ethan got to see his adoptive father every weekend. His adoptive dad lived out in Santa Cruz so it only was about a 2 hour drive every weekend there and back. Ethan's Dad was around long enough to see Ethan and Mia get married but died during the time period that Mia was missing.

Ethan's mom's partner Elizabeth (Liz for short) was a Mathematics lecturer at a nearby prestigious university (Berkeley) and it was from her where Ethan got his love for STEM and eventually settled on Engineering to be his passion.

Growing up Ethan actually was a soccer prodigy in his childhood and teen years. Being a star striker that was the proud owner of 3 state rings in high school and multiple scholarships to play soccer in college. Ethan ultimately went with his dream school UCLA (much to the dismay of his Northern California parents. Like come on Ethan, Stanford was offering you a scholarship, STANFORD)

Ethan actually tore his ACL on his left leg at the last game of his freshman year. His leg never fully recovered so he eventually dropped soccer at the collegiate level so instead he burrows himself into his academics and his work outside of school (Ethan worked at a Nike store during the weekends/summers and during the school year he worked at the UCLA IT department) this is also the reason why Ethan's fastest movement is brisk walking.

Funny enough. Ethan hates mushrooms. It's his least favorite food (it's a texture thing for him) and this dislike for mushrooms did not change once he died and got reanimated and had his consciousness co-opted by a mold colony.

Another funny fact: Carla Radames from Resident Evil: 6 is actually Ethan's second cousin once removed from his birth father. (Ethan and Carla have the same Great, Great Grandparents. It's from Ethan's dad's-mother's-mother that they are related.)

Ethan is a passable chef. He's by no means bad, but him and Mia came to a mutual agreement that Mia would do most of the cooking unless Mia wanted a few specific dishes that Ethan makes. The first dish he ever made Mia was actually his steamed shrimp, pork and cabbage dumplings. Those dumplings funnily enough became Mia's pregnancy craving and Ethan was overjoyed to make food for Mia as opposed to any other odd cravings. Ethan also was known for his homemade chili oil, hummus, and sangria (Ethan's secret recipe for Sangria is Pinot Noir, Spanish brandy, watermelon puree, raspberry, blood orange and cucumber.) Plus Ethan can make a mean American diner-style omelette.

While I get Capricorn/Aries energy from Chris and absolutely get Scorpio energy from Piers. Mr. Winters gives me some very powerful Cancer vibes. Particularly a Cancer rising. Home and family is #1 for this man and Ethan is VERY SURE to physically force you out of this existence with a one-way ticket to the afterlife should you cross him or his family. Ethan probably has an Aries sun, but particularly Ethan being a March Aries but with a cancer rising.

Ethan needed A LOT of therapy after the events of RE7. Thankfully he did receive the help that he needed and so did Mia. Although Mia was less receptive to the idea of therapy and gave her therapist the cold shoulder more often than not. For a sentient mold colony he did surprisingly well at therapy. Way to go sentient mold colony that dog-eared Ethan Winters. You did good.

From what we see The Winters don't have any pets. There's an explanation for that. Ethan is allergic to almost all forms of pet dander. Even the dang mold collective got that right. Ethan was a sniffly sneezing mess when the therapist brought their shockingly well-behaved therapy husky.

Ethan became pretty good at making dumplings from his mom's partner Liz. Who is Chinese. And growing up in San Francisco Ethan got to experience the whole range of Chinese cooking. Poor Ethan's second time cooking for Mia he used WAY too much Szechuan peppercorn and Mia physically couldn't eat more than 2 bites.

Unfortunately for Ethan and his mom's the last time they saw Ethan was very briefly right after the events of RE7. When Ethan died back in 2021 they hadn't seen Ethan in almost 3 years. Thankfully the two of them are very heavily involved in Rose's life and, Chris Redfield allowing, they spoil her rotten when they can.

Why do you think Misty didn’t confess to Ash in the GCYL episode? She did have a crush on him and I think she bottled up those feelings inside for long enough. Even if she didn’t directly feel like confessing, she could have thrown a hint here and there that she thought of him as more than a friend. Did she fear rejection? Or may be she thought it would have been a little too much for him to handle?

Speaking strictly from the view of the characters, my best bet would be that Misty fears his rejection. She is shown to be very self confident, but I don't think she's totally solid in that regard and that she sometimes uses it as a façade. I think Cerulean Blues from Pokémon Chronicles is a perfect example of this: Misty is lacking the confidence to believe she can be a successful gym leader, especially without the support of Ash and Brock. It shows that she isn't always as confident as she comes across. So, I think she does have a fear of being rejected by Ash, particularly if it would in some way impact their friendship.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? the only things i saw in theaters this year were two marvel movies because my brother and my friends insisted T_T neither are favorites but spiderman: no way home was much, much better than thor love and thunder.

What do you usually wear? t-shirts and gym shorts, but i switch to pants that are full-length (usually cotton salwar pants) the last 4 months of the year because mosquitoes

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year? i wrote a really moody minute-long arpeggiated fingerpicking thing for guitar earlier this year :) i won't post the recording because i suck at fingerpicking lmao but i'm very proud of it

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with? i've watched the video of hugh laurie saying corky at least 5 times a day the last week

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year? i took 2 vacations with my extended family this year, the second of which was supposed to be exciting but turned out awful because my mental health was in the toilet

What’s a hidden talent of yours? like an unexpected skill? hmmm i don't know but people are always surprised i can french braid and do winged eyeliner and things like that (i'm butch)

Do you have any obsessions right now: Let’s see. Just finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed (I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS EXPANSION and do I want to add Rex as a muse now??? not to say I’ve really got an active Xeno mutual though, at least I think)... Soon enough, I know it’ll be Tears of the Kingdom taking up all of my free time, so... yanno, apologies in advance.

But right now? I’m actually shiny-hunting the legendaries in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, at least before I sell it since I’m ultimately tapped out with the game (just... really not a fan of the GO-style catching mechanic, even if shiny-hunting is easier here). Still, never went that far in Pokémon before!

SO, GS Chronicles is like hgss but for the gba, by you can get a variety of Pokémon, and the gyms are harder, but the godawful level curve is fixed!

The rival of your “opposite” gender has a larger role in the story than they did in canon and their crush on your character is more believable than one(1) off-hand comment.

Like everyone in following your gym crush chronicles, but it seems that I may have a work crush chronicle thing starting.

I used to have a crush on one of the new guys but then it disappeared bc I'm like, "he's way too nice", yeah go figure. I tend to translate nice with affectionate and I usual can't handle Piguet touch and so on.

So recently he's been teasing and picking on me and for some reason I'm like, "oh no I like him again". Since I no longer work the same shift as him and our friend I leave little messages and hearts near their names. Well they started leaving some back for me and I teased and asked which of them I should marry. He messages me and says, "why not both? " and now we keep messaging and talking about my anime wedding and reverse harem.

He said he's going to bring me some food that he thinks I'd like the next time we see each other. I want to think it's going to lead into something more, but I don't know. He's like so much younger than me. Like 18 years I think.

I'm freaking out.

I randomly decided to make pictures for my personal Pokemon LGBT headcanons, since I’ve got this massive, sprawling Pokemon Fanon Universe in my head and in it nearly every single character is LGBT in some way, so I figured why not and put these together. I used the sprites from Pokemon Masters as the artwork because they were among the few “official” pieces of Pokemon artwork that didn’t save as .webp files. There’s more, of course, but I figured what better place to start than the Protagonists? More specifically, MY protagonists, the ones I chose.

Some expansion of the headcanons:

- Red is asexual but biromantic. He falls in love with Misty, but so far nothing has happened between them yet.

- Ethan is bisexual, and I’ve been considering making him trans too, but I haven’t decided yet. I like to think Ethan had a crush on Silver for a while before learning how much of a dick he was and hooking up with Jasmine instead.

- Brendan is in a poly relationship with May and Wally, because I loved all combinations of those ships so I figured “Hey, why not put them all together?” If I had included their individual orientations, Brendan would be bi, Wally would be pan and May would be either bi/pan or straight.

- Dawn is a lesbian. She ends up falling for Cheryl. That’s all I can say about that, tbh.

- Anyone who’s read my Unova Chronicles fic knows that Touya’s bi. The details can be found in that fic.

- Rosa is straight, since her canon potential love interest is a guy and there’s no option for her to be with his female counterpart. I don’t think this is an issue, tbh--she’s a HUGE ally to her LGBT friends, especially her best friend and rival Hugh (who’s asexual for those wondering).

- Calem is gay and I pictured him having this whole arc where he loves making clothes but keeps that fact to himself because he’s scared of being seen as a stereotype. Eventually, his friends convince him to be more open about himself and to not be ashamed of his hobbies or his sexuality.

- Yuki (my name for the SuMo player character) is bisexual, but isn’t entirely aware of this yet.

- Nora (my name for the Scottish Pokemon Trainer SwSh player character) is aromantic and asexual. She has this philosophy of “Who needs romance when you can have POKEMON BATTLES!?” This also makes her and Calem the only ones I haven’t paired up with someone.

These are my headcanons for the Protagonists, so next I guess would be the Rivals, then maybe some of the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Champions and others, not necessarily in that order.

Hello! I hope you are doing well, too! And you’re welcome in advance :)

I could see her having white or like, very blonde / pale hair. As for eyes maybe more grey-ish than purple?

As for profession, I usually put her in sports (soccer, rugby, hockey) or dance! Professional dancer is popular for her and I think it’d work. It depends on the type of modern au, though. Like if I did a band modern au, I’d put her on drums. I could see her being a gym teacher or coach or something when she gets older and doesn’t want to actively participate in whatever physical activity is anymore, though

As for how they’d meet in a modern AU, it could be a variety of ways. All About Us by @little-red-alchemist-of-doom has an adorable scenario (and completed) fic with them meeting at a dance studio, and @jellyjay‘s Raising Chickens is giving me life with a high school project partners au. This 20k+ oneshot with them meeting in high school while Rayla’s on exchange is one of my absolute favourite rayllum fics. You can find more under my modern au tag, there’s loads of good ones.

I have also dabbled in a modern au first meeting. So while how their first meeting goes can be incredibly varied, for me it tends to fall into two sort of categories?

1) They know of each but haven’t actually met. This is more where Jelly’s fic falls and I think it’d be easier for them to get off on the wrong foot, admittedly under much lower stakes than in canon. So they know who the other person is, probably haven’t thought much more about it. Maybe fleeting attraction? Or maybe some slight dislike. But either way, they’re just another person they go to school with (more common for high school AUs but still applicable for university AUs). And then the story starts and once they actually get to know each other, everything changes.

2) They’ve never met and have also never heard of each other, really. Fic (or beginning of at least) chronicles their first meeting. Far more prone to get off on the right foot and like each other right away, in another shade of canon where they became very fast friends and showed a real liking to each other, even just platonically. Also more likely to have crush feelings right away, and where my own fic falls.

I think regardless, the person to bring them together / make more of an initial effort would be Callum, like in canon (like in 1x05 most notably) as Rayla’s just naturally a bit more prickly, especially when it comes to actually opening up to someone. She falls first but is stubborn about it. He takes a little longer to catch up. Pining is wonderful. Friendship is key. Finally getting together / ensuing relationship is adorable. 10/10

Warning!! Long post ahead (LOL)

I’ve been meaning to do one of these for a while now. Quite a few friends and followers have asked me ‘what big influences can you think of that have inspired you as an artist/creator?’

A lot of movies, games, books, tv series, artists, and writers have influenced my drawing style and storytelling - some of them more so than others. (As represented by the larger squares in the image)

So here we go!! The numbers for each inspiration were chosen at random, the order doesn’t have any significance lol

1. Cardcaptor Sakura - (and the works of CLAMP in general I suppose because I read them all) Cardcaptor Sakura wasn’t my first manga but it holds a really special place in my heart because it’s lore and depictions of love has influenced my storytelling a LOT. I was obsessed with CLAMP and their art style when I was young to the point I would trace their drawings to learn and emulate their style. To this day I feel like it left a big impact on my art style especially.

2. Cyborg 009 - When I was a kid my parents told me and my brother that we couldn’t afford cable TV and reduced our service to the news channels and public broadcasting. We didn’t have cable TV for several years and when we finally got it back when I was 12, one of the FIRST TV programs I saw was Cyborg 009. I was just beginning to understand what anime was, since the only anime I’d seen was before our cable got cut, and I was so young I didn’t know it WAS anime. I immediately fell in love with Cyborg 009. I loved the characters, the story, everything - and I still do! It was the beginning of my exploration of the anime genre as a whole haha

3. ‘The Twelve Kingdoms’ book series - Around the same time I started watching Cyborg 009, I began getting into manga. While browsing the section in the bookstore one day I came across the first novel in The Twelve Kingdoms series. I was surprised to find a novel in the manga section and decided to browse through it. I couldn’t put it down! The rich world building and storytelling pulled me in and left me wanting more. I devoured the entire book series and the way the world was brought to life really stuck with me and influenced my own world building.

4. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - my very first Final Fantasy game, and it was a spinoff title to boot! I was drawn in by the dark, melancholic world and cute graphics. I played this game a lot with my friends and even though multiplayer was a nightmare to set up, we had so much fun. I wasn’t able to beat it until I was 16, and the story left me in tears. The Crystal Chronicles games as whole have left a HUGE impact on me, but the first one especially so.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog - My first game ever! My brother and I first played Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when we were around 3 or 4 years old. We were hooked on our parent’s Sega Genesis system and Sonic was our favorite! When we’d get home from school we’d fight over who got to play first in single player, eventually we settled on a system, My brother would play sonic, and since Tails couldn’t die even if he ran out of rings, I would fight all the boss battles as Tails while my brother tried to keep Sonic out of the way. Using this system we made it all the way up to Metal Sonic but could never beat him. We’d have 99 lives too because we knew ALL the secrets of the game LOL. I’ve played most of the Sonic titles since then, including my favorite, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

6. Sailor Moon - my ‘first’ anime. I was very young when I first saw this anime. I didn’t even know what anime was! But the portrayal of girl power and how strong all the female characters were really stuck out to me, raised as I was in a women-are-inferior-and-should-serve-their-husbands religious household. Sailor Jupiter was my favorite because she was a tomboy and wore ponytails just like me haha

7. Fullmetal Alchemist - I think I’ve touched on this before, but I have had really weak bones since I was a little kid. In middle school I was constantly on and off of crutches or in and out of wheelchairs with broken bones and such. (I blame being a huge clutz) It got to the point my classmates started calling me ‘calamity Jane’ and making fun of me. To that dorky middle school girl with crutches and leg braces, Edward Elric was my HERO. Disability representation matters folks! It certainly helped me through a rough time in my life.

8. The works of Studio Ghibli - My first Ghibli movie was My Neighbor Totoro, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I actually managed to get my mom into them too, so now we can have mother/daughter quality bonding time over new Ghibli movies when they come out. It gives us a lot of fond memories together and I enjoy those times I get to spend with her. Mom and I may not see eye to eye all the time, but I truly treasure the memories I have of watching Ghibli films with her.

9. Odin Sphere - This one is more recent, and one I blame @heebiejeebiejade for. I love everything about it. The story, the art, the characters! It tore my heart out and the writing is just superb I love it so much. and the ART my god it’s so beautiful.

10. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles the Crystal Bearers - I decided I needed to make this one separate from the earlier Crystal Chronicles section. Mostly because this game HEAVILY influenced and changed my life. Not only is it my favorite game ever, it brought me to many of my current friendships! If not for this game I never would have met @heebiejeebiejade @killerkitty4 @indestructiblemoog @shadyfolk @ninjamonkeystudios and SOOOOO many others. These friendships mean a great deal to me. They’ve changed and shaped who I am today and I’m truly grateful for them, and they never would have been possible without Crystal Bearers.

11. Dragonball - Another one of those I never knew it was Anime cartoons I watched as a young child. I loved Dragonball and later Dragonball Z. The characters, the storytelling, the fight scenes, I loved it all because it was so different from what I was used to seeing in American cartoons. My brother and I would have Super Saiyan battles in our backyard throwing Kamehamehas at each other and laughing and generally annoying our neighbors XD

12. Over the Garden Wall - Another more recent influence. Over the Garden Wall was one of the first new cartoons that grabbed my attention due to it’s great pacing and creepy Americana storytelling. Mysteries, ghosts, the afterlife, purgatory, this show dealt with a lot of creepy things while simultaneously making it funny and endearing. I rewatch it often and it’s one of my favorites.

13. Legend of Mana and the Seiken Densetsu Series - Again, I blame @heebiejeebiejade entirely for this. She sent me a huge box with every game in the Seiken Densetsu series in it along with the guidebooks saying “you HAVE to play these.” I knew she liked them so I gave them a try and YEP as per usual with anything Jade introduces me to, they COMPLETELY DESTROYED ME. Love, sacrifice, life, death, and rebirth, are a huge part of these title’s storytelling and they drew me in completely. Legend of Mana and Dawn of Mana especially. Their world building and plot devices may or may not have heavily influence my own XD

14. The ‘Stravaganza’ book series - The first time I picked up a Stravaganza book title was when I was twelve and found this really shiny book in a used bookstore for $3. It featured a picture of Venice, and a pair of violet eyes staring at you from behind a shiny silver mask on the cover. I’m not sure why It spoke to me, it just did. I bought it and finished it within a day. That book was titled City of Masks and I loved it a lot! And then I found out there were more! An entire series! The books featured time travel and dimensional travel, espionage and intrigue! I read and devoured them all and to this day I hold out hope for a final volume to finish the series.

15. Avatar: the Last Airbender - At age 12 I dismissed Avatar as a kid show originally. I scoffed at it and laughed at my little brother for being so into it. Then I saw the first episode. And it was then that I knew what a mistake I had made. I know a LOT of people love Avatar, and for good reason! I don’t have to go super in-depth here because I’m sure most of you already know how great it is. It’s definitely influenced both my art style and my storytelling.

16. Hikaru no Go - This one’s special. When I was in high school I was bullied a LOT. Like, people writing DIE YOU WHORE in my textbooks and putting thumb tacks in my gym shoes kind of bullying. They’d touch me and then pretended that they’d die of the plague. That if anyone had a crush on me they were worse than trash. The kind of bullying that made me a bit suicidal in my teen years. Lucky for me my mother had bought me a copy of Monthly Shonen Jump in early 2005, She knew that I liked manga and thought it would be the perfect magazine gift for me for valentine’s day. Boy was she right and one of the manga featured in it was Hikaru no Go. I loved the art style, and the storytelling. I was instantly captivated by the characters and I wanted to know what happened next. I soon subscribed to SJ monthly and eagerly awaited the next installment each month. What this meant was that whenever I was feeling like I wanted to end it all, I’d remember that I didn't’ know what happened next and would wait. I honestly believe that Hikaru no Go is at least partially responsible for me making it out of high school alive, and I treasure it to this day. (Also I’m on anti-depressants now so don’t worry about me y’all okay? XD) There was another manga like this, but I'mnot sure how to feel about that one anymore :(

17. Magic Knight Rayearth - I know I’ve already listed CLAMP as a heavy influence on me, but I felt Magic Knight Rayearth deserved it’s own place because it was my first manga ever! I’d seen the commercial for the anime on one of my old DVDs way back when, and I was already intereseted in it when I happened to find the manga in a bookstore! I bought it and reread the first volume a dozen times before I even found the second ahaha. I must have read the complete set a hundred times now and let me tell you the twist ending of the first part kills me every time! The first of my manga obsession ahaha

18. Tales of the Abyss and The ‘Tales of’ game series - Tales of the Abyss was my first (and still my favorite) Tales game, and since then I’ve played almost all of them! They definitely influenced my character designs, most of my friends comment on how Tales-like my costumes are ahaha

19. The 'Riyria’ book series - The most recent novel series I’ve read. It’s got everything I’d ever want to see in a novel, it’s so great and the story is so deep and intriguing! I recommend everyone to read it, it’s a MUST READ for sure!

20. Journey - The first time I played this game I cried for three hours. I felt like I’d just had a religious and spiritual experience far beyond what I’d ever experienced in a video game before. It was just something so… beyond me. I recommend everyone to play this game at least once in their lifetime. I can’t really form the words to express what it means to me. It’s just something you’d have to experience for yourself.

21. Ico: Castle in the Mist and Shadow of the Colossus - Another famous one lol a LOT of people love these games but In particular I want to bring attention to the Ico novelization, Ico: Castle in the Mist. I really enjoyed the novel and it’s worldbuilding. The games will always be special to me, but that novel man. That novel.

22. Yu Yu Hakusho - One of my guilty favorites! I first saw Yu Yu Hakusho when I was 16 and I’ve loved it ever since! I’ve always been fascinated with spirits and the occult, but I definitely had to hide this one from my religious parents.

23. Black Cat - Honestly this one surprises me. I love those secret identity and hidden horrible past animes and this one definitely fits that bill. I think this one established my favorite tropes in my life more than anything else.

24. A Bride’s Story - Two words. THE ART. MY GOD THE ART. This manga, in addtion to being a really great read, has some of the most detailed artwork I’ve ever seen. It’s influenced me greatly and I encourage everyone to read it.

25. Bravely Default - Bravely Default definitely influenced my story building and characters, it was one of the first 3DS games that really captivated me and drew me into its world!

26. Yu-Gi-Oh!! - Another series I had to hide from my parents ahah This anime was something I really loved in my childhood. Again, I really love ghosts and spirits and things like that so this anime was probably what started it all!

27. Fire Emblem Awakening and the Fire Emblem Series - Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game (Cue whining from the FE purists LOL) but since then I’ve played them all! (Including the JP only ones don’t start with me haters ahahahaha) The storytelling and bonds between the characters really resonated with me and it’s become one of my favorite game series!

28. The ‘Legend of Zelda’ game series - The repeating themes of good vs evil throughout the Legend of Zelda games really struck a chord with me, especially when I was young. Twilight Princess and Wind Waker especially influenced me. “A Sword has no strength unless the hand that wields it has courage.” Is something that has suck with me for a long time, and something that encourages me and helps me get through my everyday life.

29. The Final Fantasy Series - Final Fantasy has had a HUGE impact on my life. I already gave Crystal Chronicles it’s due, now it’s the numbered titles turn! Final Fantasy has influenced my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined ten years ago even! I’ve played them all (Except 11, curse having no internet as a teenager!) and they’ve definitely shaped my lore and world building skills!

30. Naruto - Okay I’ll admit it! I was Naruto weeboo trash in highschool!!! Oh woe is me!! Just kidding! I honestly still love Naruto, and it’s something that really stuck with me for a long time, since it’s one of the first anime I saw (after learning what anime was ahaha)

31. Gravity Falls - How can I put this… Hmmmm. Gravity Falls has heavily influenced my character building. I love it’s characters. Don’t get me wrong I love the story too! But the characters are honestly what kept me coming back for more! Not to mention that epic foreshadowing in season one. Yep.

32. Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning - Another one of my favorite manga in Highschool that oddly helped me through my depression. The main character’s struggles sort of resonated with me and helped my healing process in my late teens and early twenties.

33. Final Fantasy XII - Okay WORLDBUILDING. Let’s talk about worldbuilding because MY GOD has Final Fantasy XII have it. I love the Ivalice games in general, but the amount of effort put into 12 having a world that feels like it’s alive is astounding to be honest. The world truly feels like it’s alive, and it drew me in for over 400 hours of gameplay on Playstation 2. To this day it’s the game I have logged the most hours into.

34. Radiant Historia - What drew me in here was TIME TRAVEL and STORY AND WORLDBUILDING. This game is a hidden gem in the Nintendo DS’s extensive library. It doesn’t have the best graphics or even the best gameplay mechanics, but it didn’t matter to me because the story kept me coming back for more! By far one of my favorite games ever. (Pssst go play it, it got a remake for 3DS)

35. Final Fanasy XIV - This one is a favorite, not just because of it’s story and world building - both of which are excellent btw - but because of the connections I’ve made through it. I have made so many friends online through this game, friends that make me feel better about myself as a person, and who’ve stuck with me through the hard times along with the good.

36. Mushishi - We’ve established that I love ghosts and spirits and things, but this series made me love connecting it with nature, something that has heavily influenced my writing and my own webcomic!

37. Voltron - Mostly the first two seasons. Beast King Golion was one of my first super sentai anime as a child, and I loved seeing it remade! It was like getting to revisit my childhood

38. Gundam SEED and the Gundam Series - Okay Gundam has influenced me throughout my life, starting with Gundam Wing when I was six years old, and continuing on to this day. The one I’ve watched the most times though, is Gundam SEED, and it’s influenced my characters and storytelling a lot!
