From the first knock on your door you knew who it was, your stomach dropped and you froze. Maybe if you sunk deeper into the couch and stayed silent he’d go away. 

Maybe if you wished it hard enough you could get yourself out of this situation without even having to see him. But it wasn’t as simple as that, and when more knocks echoed through your apartment you knew that. 

“You can’t keep ignoring me.” Keigo’s voice was muffled and you could barely hear it through the door, but it still made your chest burn all the same. “Please just open the door.” 

“What.” That was all you could muster up when you opened the door, sure that if you said anything else the brave face you put on would break. 

“Thank god.” He sighed, shoulders visibly slumping down in relief. What he was so relieved about was beyond you. “I needed to see you.”

“Okay.” You muttered, still looking passed him as you stepped back into your apartment again. “You’ve seen me so now you can go.” 

“Wait, stop.” He grabbed the door stopping you from shutting it. “You know that’s not what I meant.” 

“Actually, I never know what you mean.” You breathed out an annoyed laugh, refusing to look at him still, hoping your words stung at least a little bit. “I told you to not come over.” 

“Yeah, that’s all you said. Then you ghosted?” Keigo sounded frustrated now, like he wasn’t the one in the wrong. 

“I didn’t ghost you. I blocked your number.” 

“That’s the same damn thing.” He shook his head and took a step back, this wasn’t going like he had planned. “What the hell happened?”

“I don’t know why you care, we weren’t even together. Remember?” You scoffed, thinking back to what he said that night. “Those were your words.”

He didn’t say anything for a moment and you could feel him staring at you. 

“It was too soon, everything was happening so fast.” Keigo’s voice wavered slightly and you cut him off before he could say anything else. 

“That’s what happens in real relationships, though you wouldn’t understand that. You’ve never seriously committed to anything in your life.” You knew that wasn’t a fair thing to throw at him, but you didn’t care. “I wasted months on you. Months Keigo. This wasn’t just a couple weeks thing.” 

“I know I just-”

“No, you don’t know.” You interruppted him again, you didn’t want to give him a chance to even explain why he had treated you like that. “If you knew how I genuinly thought I loved you, you wouldn’t have gone to that stupid bar with your side kick.”

He looked shocked at that and a bit of pride swelled in your chest at the way his eyes clouded over with guilt. 

“Yeah, you didn’t know I found out about that did you?” Stepping back into your apartment a bit more you were ready for this conversation to be over, nothing he could say would mend what he broke. 

“I didn’t mean for that to happen.”

“That’s all you’re seriously going to say?” You laughed again, finally looking him in the eyes for longer than a second. The burning in your chest grew red hot and you could feel a sting behind your eyes now. “Are you so pathetic that you can’t even give me a real explanation?”

“I’m sorry.” Was all he said, pushing a hand through his hair in frustration, nothing was coming out the way he was thinking. Seeing you so upset made realization of how he fucked up really sink in.

“Did I really mean nothing to you?” No matter how mad at him you were, a part of you still wished things could get fixed, that this could all get brushed over. 

“No.” He grabbed your hand forcing you to look up from the ground, “You meant everything to me.” 

“Then why?” You could only whisper now, knowing your voice would give away how much of a bad job you were holding back your tears. 

“I don’t know.” Keigo whispered, and you realized this wasn’t going anywhere.

“I can’t do this.” You pulled your hand from his grip and backed up, wiping the tears from your cheek.  “I can’t keep going around in circles with you, nothing is going to change. I should’ve realized this before, it’s my fault.” 

“Wait, I can’t do this without you.” He sounded pathetic now, but his words still burned deep, if only he figured that out sooner. 

“You’re going to have to learn how to take care of yourself, that’s not my problem anymore.” 

“Please stop, we can fix this.” He stepped forward again, reaching out to you and for a second you almost let him but you pulled away. You could hear the sadness and desperation in his voice now. “Please. I love you.” 

“You don’t get to say that anymore. Just go before you ruind something else, Keigo.” You turned around fully now, trying your hardest to ignore how broken he sounded as you walked into your apartment. “Don’t come over anymore. I mean it.” 

You hated how much shutting the door hurt and how much you still loved him, even after all of this. The only thing that made it a little bit better was knowing that he was hurting just as much as you, or so you hoped.

The secret timeline inside of Good Omens season 2 revealed, *part2*

The ineffable cut is explained in part 1. Please read that first. (I’ve burnt a timecode into this ineffable edit to help pick up the rhythm.)

So now that I've shown you XX:X6 is the number of the beast in the last installment, what else can we glean? Well, it turns out angel numbers (sequences of repeated numbers ex: 22:22 or 20:02) are quite important events in the S2 universe! I've cut together every "Angel Number" I could find in the timeline and put them in order. I first noticed this near the end of the ineffable cut, where Beelzebub and Gabriel hold hands, so I've started with that one just to give you an idea how bonkers this whole sequence is. Don't forget, sound on! Breakdown below the cut.

So we start off with this Beez and Gabriel sequence near the end of the cut. They start singing to each other a little out of time, but lo and behold, at 02:03:20 the music comes in right on time with the seconds ticking by to line them up. By the time they reach 03:33 they're gone.

Aziraphale is excited to get his "record"! He's doing something sneaky, and as a result opens the door to go off to said covert activity on 00:02:22.

Crowley asks "Do they know?" on 03:33. Who are they and why does he want to know? This whole scene is on a St-James park bench so spying and double speak is in progress, clearly.

Crowley then asks "Something big?" on 00:04:44. We get the hint for the main action of the entire second season here. Something's up with the up...

Now the real fun begins! I'll come back to the ones I just skipped in a later post because they're more subtle. Here's the first "real" angel number at 11:11. Aziraphale discovers THE box and touches it for the first time.

At 22:22 Nina and Maggie's signs are "mysteriously" ignored by a human passerby.

This is wild. Aziraphale is learning about the Everyday record and something funny happens. 33:31 Aziraphale says, " Do you have a copy?" 33:32 Maggie says, "Mm, too many of them" and at the same time a car horn beeps twice. 33:33 Aziraphale is startled by the fact that a double car horn happened on a XX:X2 and looks out the window in concern. So the question is: does Aziraphale feel or know the rhythm of the timestamps?? And are things that line up with numbers a signal he's paying attention to?

A funny one! At 44:44 Aziraphale seems to be wanting to check if Gabriel is really who he says he is, and is watching him like a hawk. Gabriel does all he can to do nothing at all and look innocent while the angel number passes by.

Another funny one. Nice. 55:55 reveals that the Bentley likes Aziraphale more than Crowley, and does whatever he wants, including not speeding when he puts his foot down.

This next one's a little peculiar. It seems like an exchange about Gabriel's whereabouts, but it's the halfway point of the edit (1:11:10-11:11:11) of the ineffable timeline and we seem to be having two conversations at once. Shax says on 11:11 "He hates you." Does she mean that she thinks Crowley hates Aziraphale, or... that Gabriel hates Aziraphale. Aziraphale looks noticeably shocked at her reply. After the eyebrow raise of "You don't seem like his type at all" I would bet we're not talking about Crowley anymore. How did she get this information?

01:22:22 Gabriel does a little laugh to himself while signalling with the lamp. What the fuck? Does someone know morse code?

01:33:33 Maggie extends her had to Nina at the ball, to invite her to dance. Nina looks pleased, but doesn't move until... a very odd miracle sound on a XX:X6 happens and she jumps up to take Maggie's hand. That miracle sound is not Aziraphale's, and besides, he would never miracle on a 6. Who's the demon making Nina dance...

Aziraphale's halo toss is the flip from ACT II to ACT III of season 2, and as such, get's a special time right before rolling over to the second hour. He decides to throw it down on exactly 01:54:45, and at 01:54:54 gets a giant tubular bell ring in the music to highlight the action. It lands on the ground at 01:55:01, and incinerates the demons at precisely 01:55:10.

01:59:59 Beez and Gabriel hold hands, and a magical chime sounds at 2:00:00. Maggie start her sentence "Aww, that's really sweet" at the same time, and manages to finish it on 2:00:02. (Dagon politely waits to pretend to barf on a XX:X3 after she's done.)

The last one is a big one : 02:02:02 gets "to face CELESTIAL punishment" by Michael. This is what we've been waiting for the entire season, the Checkov's gun of the book of life. But, where is it? We then get an odd cowboy showdown style stare-off between Michael and Shax. I'm predicting that missing chunk of time in the bookshop before we come back to Michael threatening Aziraphale with the book of life is going to be a pretty interesting reveal in season 3. -------------------------------------------

Hawk & Tim's scenes in chronological order

Okay, so I made a list with the timestamps of each scene between Hawk and Tim to be able to watch them in chronological order (you know, to make everything even more painful). I already watched through it yesterday and it worked well, so I thought I might share it.

Note that this only includes direct interactions between Hawk and Tim. The only scenes I included where they didn’t interact directly is Mary telling Tim that Hawk betrayed him, the letter Lucy burned, and the final scene at the AIDS quilt.

If you want to watch their entire story, including all the scenes of them talking about each other, I honestly think it’s easier to just watch the episodes in order and skip to the right parts (maybe I’ll also do another one for the entire series).

Food pusher Keigo hits me where I live.

There was a lot of tough times for food when I was a kid. You could even timestamp certain things by saying "Oh it was during the Potato era." Where all we really had was potatoes to eat, "Oh you mean during the Ramen era?" When it was mostly Ramen.

My brother hates ramen now, from how often he had to consume it as a kid, he grew so tired of the taste it makes him nausous.

My other brother hates potatoes, they don't make him nauseous, he mostly hates it on principle. Which is better then nausea I suppose.

I had a similar problem with rice, dish after dish of mostly Rice, barely seasoned and bland. But I didn't wanna hate food, so when I got old enough I asked mom to buy me spices and vegetables and sauces until I found ones that made the rice taste like love again.

I realize now that I probably got too deep again and this rant has gone on further then expected, but I just want you to know I am now in love with Dad-Hawks.

I hope he and Lil' Y/N get snacks at a Hot Dog stand, I always wanted to try those.

I finally got to after I turned 20, we went to a fair for my little brothers birthday, the hotdogs were so big! We were so happy!

Hawks and Lil' reader need to go to a fair together, have Dabi or Endeavour foot the bill. 😌

You're the #1 person i think would answer this in earnest so, what do you think the edge of the atmos is? So we obviously know about the far side being seperated by impassable mountains, but the other ends, do the sky cities stop and become a flatland? A desert? An ocean? The atmos has to be a continent right? But there has to be a point where they stop and different ecosystems begin. Are there other continents past the atmos that run on different rules? How would they cross the gap? What creatures or dieties rule in the other lands? Figured i'd ask you

I noticed this ask when I was at work with about an hour left on my shift. You have no idea how tempted I was to make a video response to this question through pure enthusiasm and finally launch into my ambition of making YouTube videos about this cartoon XD

First of all, thank you so much for thinking of me, and I will absolutely answer this question with 100% earnest.

Secondly, I didn't really have an answer for this question until you asked it. Having full-on continents isn't really something I really felt a need for in Storm Hawks and Atmos, especially after I came up with headcanons to explain how Terras work and why they work that way. However this ask got me thinking :3

Let's start at the beginning. Atmos was made by a storm. Specifically the First Storm, believed to be the birth of a god of the same name, and the total destruction of an old world. Chaotic, destructive this newborn god shattered what would become Atmos into thousands of pieces and in its youthful madness it struck out at its elders. Death (aka Decay) lost an eye, Magic lost a heart that was flung into the path of a comet, which was one of the fire avatar's children. They caught fire like sparks to kindling. The howling drew the curiosity of the Flesh (aka Life), and the ire of the Manywing (the winds).

Whatever flat, unblemished world existed before this event is long gone and devoured by Decay, though it's possible a few traces of its inhabitants survived. Though they were changed by the energy of this great cataclysm. Atmos calls the descendants of these survivors the Giants.

Please ignore how YouTube absolutely bungled that auto caption, but this is the line that inspired the headcanon for an Atmos creation 'myth' (it is a very real event but gets heavily debated in-universe), which I've held onto for a good two or so years now.

This wave of destruction created the Wastelands, and Terras came about when pieces of raw crystal energy fell to Atmos and eventually formed giant crystal deposits, around which earth, dirt and stone formed, making way for new life such as plants and animals. So essentially Terras are giant crystal geodes. The type of crystal that makes up their core is likely to affect its climate, which is how I am able to get away with worldbuilding choices such as placing Blizaris on the same longitude as, say, Tropica.

Because of this, I never considered any actual continents on Atmos. The First Storm was an event of worldwide destruction, absolutely nowhere was left unscathed, so no matter how far someone travels, it's Terras all over.

But this ask got me thinking 'ok what if there was? Why would there be any?'

Well the answer is that a continent did survive the First Storm. Maybe more than one, but I want to focus on what you can find there, and that is giants.

Time to bring in Gundstaff. Fun fact, I made him despicable. But that's not what we're here to discuss.

Who the fuck is this man besides a crystal hoarder who gets robbed for plot??? In the three episodes he's in, for a total amount of screentime that I'm pretty sure doesn't exceed even five minutes, all we learn about him is that he hates people, is a giant, has a huge crystal collection, and his unnamed, blink-and-you-miss-it wife and child are presumably being held captive by Cyclonia. The only reason I'm not saying the wife and child are dead is because if they were, Gundstaff would likely have gone "fuck it, I'm working against you because you have nothing to hold over my head" long before Payback when he whoops ass for Piper.

Gundstaff's very existence, and that of his supposed familiy, brings up several questions. Why do we not see any other giants in Atmos? Why does the cast not seem to treat his existence like a total anomaly? Is he the last giant in existance? I personally don't think so. If that's the case, then where the hell are they all?? How far flung are they that we only see a single member of this race three times across 52 episodes over a space of at least 36 Terras if you count the ones that aren't physically visited in the show?

This is Gundstaff's home as seen in Five Days about 60 seconds in. It's... pretty small. Bro doesn't have a lot of space to move, and there's no sign of any other inhabitants, least of all any his size.

So where are the giants? Why is Gundstaff living in a place that doesn't feel very suited to his stature?

Because it's not really where he belongs.

The biggest landmasses in Atmos are the homelands of giants. There's space for them to move freely, they don't have to worry about crossing the Wastelands to get anywhere (though I do headcanon giants to have powerful innate magic that allows them to travel great distances without worry, and that the greatest of giants can grow to the size of Terras). I think these continents, aka Giant Country, are relatively flat and follow more 'logical' geology more akin to what we'd find in real life. I'm not set on what kind of climate it is just yet. Crystals are quite scarce here, as the ground isn't suitable for deposits to develop, so giants will venture out into the wider Atmos to gather resources. Some will stay long-term for various reasons such as for research, to make Champions (something of an 'art' among giants gifted with what I call "Artisan magic"), or because they were exiled.

I'm not sure why Gundstaff isn't living in Giant Country just yet. Maybe he was exiled, or he was staying in Atmos for research, or he and his wife were making plans to return to Giant Country with their child, but got torn apart by Cyclonia just before that plan was set into motion. If it weren't for his wife and child, I feel like Gundstaff would've returned to Giant Country long ago.

So to answer your question, I don't really think there is an 'edge' of Atmos. If it weren't for the Barrier Cliffs, if you travelled in one direction for long enough, you'd wind up back where you started without running into an 'edge'. But you might just find Giant Country, and that may as well feel like the edge of Atmos. It's quite different there.

War + Geopolitics

The world is on the precipice. What is there to say? It’s surreal to live through a war in the age of social media, in the age of AI, when the business model of Twitter/X (monetized virality, pay-to-play blue checks + amplification) incentivizes the rapid spread of misinformation. We are also witnessing the algorithmic suppression (shadow banning) of perspectives that are critical of Israel, along with the proliferation of doctored videos, fake images, and imposter accounts. For this reason I’ve stopped checking social media. I’ve been both inspired by and disheartened by the responses I’ve seen online, but the informational chaos is overwhelming.

Where do things stand at the moment? I’ll try to synthesize some of the information I’ve gathered.

POSSIBILITY OF A REGIONAL WAR

With the bombing of the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza, the region is inching closer to a conflagration that has the potential to ignite a global war. At the moment, I do not think it’s possible to say with certainty who bombed the hospital that killed hundreds of Gazans. Palestinian officials say it was the IDF, that homemade Hamas and PIJ (Palestinian Islamic Jihad) rockets are not deadly enough to kill hundreds. The IDF claims it was a PIJ rocket that misfired and published a video that had a timestamp that did not correspond to the time of the bombing. Biden claims it was not Israel, but has not produced the evidence to substantiate the claim. Regardless of who is behind the devastating attack, the effect is the same: fury across the Islamic and Arab world at both Israel and the US.

It is not in Israel, Iran, or the US’s interests to go to war, but structural factors could nonetheless push all parties in that direction. Iran has warned Israel against a ground invasion and occupation of Gaza. Israel is gearing up for such an invasion, but now appears somewhat hesitant. A ground invasion and protracted urban warfare will undoubtedly be bloody for both Israelis and Palestinians. If Israel does pull the trigger on a ground invasion of Gaza, the chances of Hezbollah attacking Israel and opening a front on the northern Israeli border (with Lebanon) greatly increases. Even pro-Israel US hawks don’t think that Israel can handle a two-front war, which is likely contributing to Israel’s hesitation about a ground invasion of Gaza. If Hezbollah jumps in, Iran will as well. If Iran goes to war with Israel, I think it’s almost guaranteed that the US will step in to back Israel, likely with American troops on the ground. Would China and Russia step in to back Iran? (Hard to say at this point.) This is the scenario in which the region would explode into a broader devastating conflict. 

The crisis has been a disaster of epic proportions for the Biden administration. His trip to the region has been a complete diplomatic failure. Landing in Israel soon after the hospital attack, the US has thrown its weight fully behind Israel. Arab leaders, including Palestinian Authority President Abbas, have canceled their diplomatic meetings with Biden. The Arab world will believe that the US has green-lit whatever Israel decides to do. The delicate alliances the US has been trying to build with the Gulf States to check Iranian regional influence are crumbling. This has already started a superpower scramble for influence in the Middle East.

GLOBAL GEOPOLITICS

With US’s regional credibility in tatters, China and Russia have stepped in to call out Western hypocrisy and position themselves as the new power brokers in the region. Of course they are opportunistically seizing on the chance to strengthen an anti-Western alliance, but their message will nonetheless resonate with countries in a region that have been destabilized for decades by US interventionism. China will position itself as a mediator but may not have enough of a rapport with countries in the region to serve as a credible mediator. Despite benefiting from an anti-western alliance, I doubt China will get involved militarily. Russia has clearly been drawn much closer to Iran after their invasion of Ukraine, but they have a complex relationship to Israel. While Ukraine has repeatedly sought military support from Israel, Israel has refused to provide such support and did not sanction Russia. Israel and Russia have coordinated with each other on military operations in Syria. Israeli neutrality toward Russia is partly driven by the huge Russian population in Israel—around 17.25% of Israelis are Russian speakers, many of whom were Jews who migrated from the Soviet Union, making them a vital bloc within Israeli society. At the same time, Russia stands to benefit greatly from a protracted conflict in the Middle East, as such a conflict will draw Western attention and material support away from Ukraine and toward Israel. My guess is that Russia will seek to pit Arab countries against the US while maintaining military neutrality. However, that might change if Iran gets into a hot war with Israel.

India and Israel have grown closer in recent years. I was surprised to learn that India has been a major source of anti-Palestinian misinformation. Modi has developed very friendly relations with Netanyahu, as Modi is a Hindu nationalist who has whipped up Islamophobic sentiments within India.

While the people of the Arab and Islamic world are broadly sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, each country has their own national interests (previously, I discussed the Abraham Accords and the Saudi/Gulf pivot toward the US). Jordan and Egypt are reluctant to accept Palestinian refugees. Many Palestinians also fear that the creation of a humanitarian corridor into Egypt would be a second Nakba that would lead to their permanent displacement from Palestine. Jordan and Egypt have refused to accept Palestinian refugees because they fear that it would destabilize their security and could justify Israeli attacks on their countries. The people in Gaza have nowhere to go. No place in Gaza is safe, as the hospital attack painfully demonstrates.

ENERGY WAR

Iran has called for an oil embargo on Israel. Oil/gas/energy markets have already been disrupted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which sent oil markets into chaos and contributed to inflation and high gas prices (which also eroded Biden’s approval rating). Oil producing Arab countries may use their leverage as energy suppliers to counter the west’s backing of Israel. What would happen, for instance, if Qatar reduced gas supplies to Europe just as Europe has dropped Russia as their main gas supplier? 

DOMESTIC US POLITICS

No doubt, the current crisis will hurt the Biden administration and the Democrat’s chances at winning the presidency in 2024. The party is basically split down the middle on the Israel-Palestine issue. Young people justifiably feel that Biden’s backing of Israel has contributed to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. (His approval rating was already in the toilet with young people.) At the same time, a second Trump presidency will be even more catastrophic. Trump already brought us to the brink of war with Iran by assassinating Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and further fanned the flames of the Israel-Palestine conflict by moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and facilitating a “peace process” that excluded the Palestinians. 

I do sincerely hope that there is a revitalization of the antiwar left. We failed to stop the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. The US’s “war on terror” was a colossal failure that ensnared the US in a quagmire of pointless wars that lasted decades. I will never forget what it felt like atmospherically to live through the beating of the war drums and to be called a terrorist sympathizer by everyone around me (this was in Florida). Stopping the machine of war will be even more difficult this time around given how deep the US-Israeli alliance is, but we must try.

There is a lot more to say, but I’ll end here. What next? I hope there is a ceasefire and that Hamas releases the hostages. I pray the siege on Palestinian civilians in Gaza ends, that Palestinians get their freedom and dignity. The world is a wound. We are grieving. Grief can easily be routed into bloodlust and tribalism. I am holding my breath. I pray the world steps back from the cliff edge and that the peace process begins in earnest.

The Nightmare Song itself is an entertaining and impressive example of patter, which showcases the talent and diction of its performer.」

PaddleOut：　「paddleout (and raven underground's music in general) has just really really solid guitar work. i happened upon this artist a couple years back? i don't remember exactly how, i think it was a chance spotify recommendation of something off of The War for Bohemia album. I ended up liking the Pangolin Bloodbath album more, though. anyway i fell in love with PaddleOut. the main riff is so smooth and the slides on the notes are so masterful. what's awesome is the riff shows up again in another song later on the album, UV Light. i love leitmotifs so bad... the vocalist has sort of an emo-ish lilt to their voice, but somehow it fits in really well with the overall indie rock/alt rock/mild grunge aesthetic of the instrumentals (i'm bad at genre identification don't @ me). PaddleOut has a really great full sound and i used to listen to it to fall asleep when taking naps. good ass song.
