U.S. stops controlled burns nationwide after New Mexico disaster
May 20, 2022 - Reuters
TAOS, N.M. (Reuters) - The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) on Friday called a temporary nationwide halt to controlled burns meant to reduce fire risk after the agency accidentally started part of New Mexico's largest ever wildfire.
The Hermits Peak Calf Canyon fire has burned over 300,000 acres (123,000 hectares), destroyed up to 1,500 properties and displaced tens of thousands of people, and is still out of control...
Started “part of” New Mexico’s largest ever wildfire, or started the wildfire? Stopping “controlled burns” is a huge victory in the fight against wildfires! This is not the first wildfire that was started by US Forest Service.
We exposed the prescribed burns being used to create a dreary, smoke filled summer last year in order to promote the idea of increased wildfires due to “climate change.” The USFS stopped disclosing when they were lighting them so that they could lie that the smoke was from wildfires hundreds of miles away and in the wrong direction of the wind, while closing forests due to “wildfire danger.” They did them at night so we would wake up to smoke-filled air.
Now, with so much exposure and the public’s discovery that these fires are behind the massive destruction of property and the environment, USFS is finally coming to their senses (probably to avoid getting sued). Hopefully this is not temporary but marks the beginning of the end for a very flawed concept in forest management and wildfire prevention.

Hermit's Peak fire scar, after the fall and winter had allowed some regrowth.
Having known this forest before the fire, this was a very emotional hike last year. This was not just the murder of an individual forest, but tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of individual trees. It's easy to dismiss the macro; impossible to avoid the micro.

A Reluctant Look at Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon Fire
A Reluctant Look at Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon Fire
By KAY MATTHEWS On Sunday, July 24, an evening thunderstorm in El Valle did what I’d been expecting one to do during monsoon season: it sent the water and mud and debris down from my uphill neighbor’s driveway across the road onto my property, just like it did last year when it flooded my acequia laterals and orchard. But this time I’d had a trench dug that allowed the flood waters to reach the…

How Tango intended the Dungeon Lackey would be used: I’ll help players survive the dungeon! They’ll have more successful runs! Maybe they will try for better artifacts or learn new secrets of the dungeon!
How Dungeon Lackey is actually used: Artifacts? Who needs those, these shenanigans are comedy GOLD

thinking about him again (firebender Keith from the atla AU)
Just. Keith living out in the middle of the Si Wong desert with only his komodo-lion and spirit wolf for companions. He trades with the sandbender tribes, and with the people living in the Oasis village. He may or may not have been in Wan Shi Tong's library. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about where he got a spirit wolf from either. It's fine.
Keith seeing a brilliant flash of light one day and following its energy and finding Hunk unconscious in the desert. Bringing him back to his home and helping him recover, listening to his story about how he and his family got attacked by Fire Nation soldiers and then somehow he ended up by himself in the desert? Separated from them? But they promised to meet each other in Ba Sing Se, so maybe if he goes there, he can find them.
Keith agreeing to go with him. It's the first time he's left his desert since he and his dad settled here. It's a good place to hide when you're a firebender living in the Earth Kingdom. Keith being extremely sensitive to spirits, but having no idea he's traveling with the Avatar (but then again, Hunk doesn't know that either). Keith who elusively answers that he's mixed whenever someone asks about his parents. Don't worry about that either.

Watching Third Life for the first time, and I’ve gotten to the part where Scar keeps scamming people out of their armor by promising “reputation” in exchange for it. And bit by bit Grian is just slowly going mad. Like - he keeps trying to warn people that Scar’s scamming them, and it gets to the point where - when Etho turns up and Scar tries to keep Grian busy elsewhere - we get this amazing moment of Grian shouting from the opposite side of Monopoly Mountain:
“HE WANTS YOUR SHOOOES!”
in this desperate last-ditch attempt to save Etho from Scar’s scam. And then Big B shows up in diamond friggin’ armor, and Scar sees it, and he goes
“You’ve come to the right place! Welcome to Monopoly Mountain–”
and before he can even finish his sentence, we just hear Grian laughing in the background, sounding like a man who’s at the end of his rope and has all but given up on even TRYING to stop Scar at this point. He has this final attempt to save B by trapping Scar in cobwebs and telling B to “Just run!” all while laughing in a way that sounds like he’s almost crying
ALL OF THIS barely ten minutes after a bunch of people showed up to brag about having dark oak saplings (therefore destroying the monopoly Grian tried to have over them), which led to Scar telling Grian “I will murder all of them” and Grian doing that thing where he’s laughing so hard he has to lean away from the mix so he doesn’t make his audio spike.
…not even two episodes in and I’m beginning to understand why people love Scar and Grian so much in this series. I can’t even imagine where it goes from here holy shit
