Note
Another all might vs AFO rematch is so unnecessary and really shows that hori is doing whatever he thinks is "cool" for this final arc and throwing logic and writing out the window. This honestly brings down all mights character for me.
Anonymous asked: I guess quirkless deku could've been a hero, all he needed was an iron man suit apparently lmao. If all might holds AFO back for even a minute, it's going to make AFO look super weak and all the people who had quirks trying to stop him look even weaker. I mean hori built the whole story up as you need a quirk to do hero work and then he just gives all might a iron man suit out of nowhere just to have him fight again? Yeah that's bad writing.
I'll take these two asks together. Admittedly, I didn't read the EN fandom reactions to this chapter, bc I loved it and I didn't want to see the inevitable negativity, but I really don't get why people think this ruins anything.
The manga has spent almost 400 chapter at this point of deconstructing hero society, the Symbol of Peace and I think some things should be abundantly clear by now:
A strong quirk doesn't make a true hero (Bakugou's, Endeavor's arcs)
Saving someone is about reaching their hearts in time, not about beating them down
Quirks and personalities are connected, but the quirk is not the same as the individual (Shouto's arc)
You don't need a quirk to be someone's hero (every person who left little Tenko to wander the streets alone)
Skill, training, tech can all elevate a person beyond the strength of their quirks (Best Jeanist, Hawks' fight after he lost his wings, Hatsume matching the hero kids in the SF with tech, Detrenat, Knuckleduster in Vigilante, etc)
It was inevitable that we'd come back to this question:
Tumblr media
When All Might said in Chapter 1 that you need a quirk to be a hero, he was saying that bc at the time he truly believed that everything he was, was due to OFA.
He spent the entire time after losing OFA being "lost and wandering" (just like Shoto, btw) trying to figure out his own place. By trying to teach Deku, by becoming a better teacher to all the students he tried to find a sense of purpose, but basically he lost the ability to see himself as a hero. That's why he pulled back, offered no leadership even after the war, as things were completely falling apart.
It took watching Deku spiral as he tried to shoulder everything by himself and seeing Class A offering support to him that All Might started to doubt the path he was on. Because, seriously - Ojirou, a martial artist with a tail - Shoji - a guy with some extra arms - Mineta - with his sticky balls - all believe that they CAN support Deku, can be part of his fight.
While All Might, with his 4 decades of fighting experience, a huge amount of wealth, access to the world's best tech through personal connections can offer nothing?
It took talking with Stain to realize that there is an entire spectrum of doing nothing and doing everything by himself. And the ideal point is to do what he can.
Tumblr media
All Might stepping up has been on the cards since then. We knew he was planning something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, All Might has earned his retirement. He could be just a living relic of a glorious era. Obviously, even with tech, he's not going to have the godlike powers he did before.
But right now, the end is in sight. Everything is falling apart. He just sent two 16 year olds to run into the core of a ticking nuke on the blind faith they'll be able to do something about it, because it is the ONLY chance. One of his students had his heart explode. There are no heroes left.
All Might KNOWS, he knows better than anyone how dangerous prime!AFO is. But he also knows his personality, his buttons to push. He doesn't have to win, he just needs to delay, and he has a good hunch that AFO won't be able to ignore him. Whatever minutes, seconds he can buy can mean the difference between life or death, victory or defeat. So of course, he will try. Because that's who he is.
Remember - Deku in chapter 1 running into danger with a backpack got OFA because he reminded Toshinori of himself. Quirkless Deku stepping up, acting heroic despite his lack of power made All Might RECOGNIZE himself. Losing OFA never meant he lost his hero heart or instincts - he just lost faith in himself, because he bought into the hero society rhetoric. The scale of what he could do changed, but his heroism didn't.
Tumblr media
So that leads us to the last question - is there a place and need for heroes who are less than superman. If there is a Symbol who has the power to solve any crisis by himself, do you even need the lesser ones?
And I think the story has affirmed again and again that yes, people with little power can make a huge difference and heroism comes in many shapes and forms. Also, that no matter how powerful, nobody can get there alone. Everyone needs support. A strong net is more stable than a lone pillar. A person's value or ability to change things is not tied to their quirks.
All Might stepping up is the culmination of everything he learnt and is totally in character for him. Moreover, it's the natural narrative endpoint of everything that the series has been talking about.
He can't win, he'll probably needs someone to save his ass (maybe Stain, maybe Bakugou, possibly both), but he'll also tick away precious seconds from AFO's rewind time and make a difference.
And this is why I also expect Deku saving Shigaraki not be just beating him up with more OFA, but Deku being Izuku should be the decisive factor in it. And also, I personally think Deku losing OFA but learning that he can be a hero without it would be a good writing choice and a good endgame.
HK already drew Deku's quirks as support items - so I think it's not a stretch that he could be a tech-based hero.
Tumblr media
As someone who is a huge fan of tech-based heroes operating in the world of super-powers, it is my favourite endgame for Deku.

Chocolate Comfort
Characters: Bakugou x Koge (OC), ft. Natsuki, brief mentions of Seijirou, Dokuji, Matsuki, Atsuki and Otoha.
Rating: Teen | Cursing
Warning: Could be upsetting to those who suffer and struggle with bullying, some derogatory word usage, fluffy dad!Baku supporting his daughter
Words: 2839
a/n: I just love their relationship and want to write and develop it more, no real excuse otherwise.
The sound of slamming doors was an almost daily occurrence in the Bakugou household. With such strong willed and easily frustrated people, it was never a surprise to those that lived there or to frequent guests when a door or two would slam, echoing through the two story house. So when the front door slammed with the arrival of his daughter as she came home from school, Bakugou didn’t even bother to look up from the book he had in his hands. He did keep his focus for the moment on the shuffling at the entrance, also a common set of noises that came with the shedding of coats and shoes before stepping foot into the house. His back to the entrance, he couldn’t see her, though there was a sound that hidden between what was normal that instantly peaked his interest.
A sniffle.
It was a quiet one, as if the tiny wild-haired blonde had tried to muffle it to keep any attention away from her, but the ever observant Bakugou noticed it without fault. His little girl was not of the sniffling sort, either when it came to crying or being sick. She had gotten sick only a couple of times in her young life, and crying was out of the question unless it was a seriously huge deal. The last time he had seen her cry was just over two years ago, when she had come out to him and his wife as lesbian. There hadn’t been a single tear since, and as another sniffle reached his ears, he knew that there was something going on. Though, he knew damn well that if he wanted any chance at getting through to her, subtlety was key.
“Welcome home, Natsu.” He called from the living room couch, marking his place in his book before shutting it quietly. Then came the confirmation that there was indeed something wrong. Silence. All Natsuki did was make her way up the stairs towards her bedroom, stomping so hard that Bakugou was surprise her feet didn’t go right through them. Frown crossing his lips, he watched her, though he was unable to see her face. Only her body posture gave away that she was upset, head down and shoulders hunched up with fists clenched at her sides. In that moment, he couldn’t help but to see a bit of his teenage self in her, recognizing that bothered posture as if he were looking in a mirror.
“Well someone’s--” SLAM. “-- upset.” Koge spoke softly from the entrance to the kitchen, pulling Bakugou’s eyes away from the stairs and to his wife. Her pale blue gaze was locked on the path her daughter had taken, currently wiping her hands on a rag. “I bet even the neighbors could hear her stomping around like that. Did she say anything to you, Katsuki?”
“No.” Bakugou stood, removing his reading glasses from his face and placing them down onto the coffee table along with his book. “I think she would have started screaming if she opened her mouth. It’s weird though, usually when she’s mad she will come and actually rant about it.”
Koge gave a small sigh, placing the rag into her apron pocket. “Then she must not be mad. Maybe something’s made her sad?”
“Maybe.” He made his way over to his wife, kissing her lips softly. Koge smiled up at him, placing her hand on his cheek gently.
“I’m about to start dinner. Why don’t you go up and talk to her?”
“I may never come out alive. Are you sure you want me to risk it?” Bakugou placed his hand on the back of hers, turning his head to place a kiss against her palm. Giggling softy, Koge stepped in closer as his kisses continued up her arm.
‘You should probably take an offering. Maybe those spicy chocolates and some milk? That’s always her go-to emotional binge eating option.” She let her arms wrap around his neck as he caressed her petite body to him tightly, her lips lost to his in another kiss.
Once releasing her, Bakugou followed her into the kitchen, their hands hooked together only by a couple of fingers. Coming to a stop by the fridge, he opened it up and pulled out the milk while Koge fetched the chocolates from a hidden spot in a low cabinet, where she stashed all their goodies that she didn’t want their teenage children to find. These particular chocolates were made with spices that could easily give Koge hiccups, but her heat loving husband and children were admittedly addicted to them. So, they stayed hidden until it was deemed appropriate to pull them out, or until Bakugou had to get up in the middle of the night for a quick sweet snack.
“Did you want a plate or something for them?” Koge looked up at Bakugou as he poured an oversized cup of milk, catching his gaze for a moment before he shook his head.
“No. I think I should take the whole thing. We’ll just get more for ourselves later, but she’ll probably want to binge on them.” Once milk was sufficiently poured, Bakugou put the jug away and sighed, reaching up to ruffle his hair in preparation for walking into the dragon’s lair. “Alright… If I don’t come back, it means I died.”
Koge giggled softly, rubbing his back as he took the milk and chocolates into his hands. “You’ll be alright. You can always get through to her, better than any of us. You can call me for backup if you want.”
“Natsu is sixteen now, who knows what the fuck is going on. I just hope it’s not dating… I don’t know jack shit about relationship crap.” He began to make his way towards the stairs, Koge following for the moment.
“What does that mean? You married me, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, but you were my first girlfriend and we never broke up. We didn’t go through that type of drama. I just wigged out when you tried to kiss me in public for the first year.” He shot her a snarky smirk over his shoulder as he started up the stairs. Koge gave a roll of her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Two years, actually.”
Bakugou merely answered with a shrug, starting down the hall and making his way to Natsuki’s bedroom. He could already hear the alarmingly loud heavy metal music, once again bringing back memories of his troubled youth. With a sigh, he stopped at the door, holding the bag of chocolates under his left arm to free up a hand so he could knock. After a couple decently hard taps with his knuckles, he called to his daughter loud enough so she could hopefully hear him over the music. With no answer, he opened the door, peeking into the room to find that it was completely pitch black, except for the orange and purple string lights she had along her walls near the ceiling.
They created enough light so that Bakugou could see her, sitting on the bed with a giant pillow in her arms, her face shoved into it. Once inside, he let the door shut behind him before heading towards her stereo, turning down the music to where it was barely audible. “That’s a band I used to listen to all the time. Not exactly when I was having a bad day, but it was my thinking music. The heavier, the better.”
There was no response from Natsuki, just the soft rustle of fabric as she lifted her head up just a bit to peer at him from behind her bangs. Making his way to her bed, Bakugou plopped to sit down, dropping the chocolates beside her in a way to make it obvious what they were. Now that he was next to her, he could see that she had also pulled her blanket up over her body, covering nearly every inch of her. Slowly, a petite hand slid out of the blanket to take the chocolates, pulling them into the darkness of her little cocoon.
“Hot turds?” Natsuki spoke quietly, the rasp of her voice giving enough away to tell Bakugou that she had not only been crying, but did a scream session into her pillows. Deciding not to jump straight into the interrogation, Bakugou nodded.
“Hot turds. Truffles. Whatever they are.”
“I’d still eat them if they were turds.” Now her voice was muffled as she had already started eating. “They’re so fucking good.”
“They are,” Bakugou skipped out on scolding for language at the moment, tapping his fingers against the cup in his hand. “The fucking best.”
“Why does everyone hate me, Daddy?”
Frown crossing his lips, Bakugou resisted the urge to pull her in for a hug, knowing she was a ‘touch only when I want it’ type of person. “Everyone doesn’t hate you, babygirl. You have friends, your mom and I and your brothers. Eguchi and Doey. You have a lot of people that love you.”
“But they don’t… Not my friends.” Sniffling, Natsuki shifted the pillow in her arms, finally giving Bakugou a view of her flushed and tear stained cheeks. How upset she was was visible in her furrowed brow and pained glare, which was locked on the bag of chocolates in her hands. “Everyone just pretends to like me…”
Bakugou handed the glass of milk towards her, letting her gulp quite a bit down before he spoke. “Did they do something today?”
With a soft hiccup, fresh tears joined the old, making her fair blonde hair stick to her skin. “It was Hori.”
“The girl you’ve been going on dates with? Didn’t she say she’d be your girlfriend?”
“She was just pretending. Her and all my ‘friends’ were in on it, so they could learn a bunch of secrets about me. T-they were spreading lies that I hit on girls in the bathroom, that I peek at them in the stalls and in the locker rooms.” Having obviously already gotten past the initial sadness, frustration and anger was starting to peek through as she began to stuff her mouth with the candies. “They made such a r-racket today after g-gym that the coach had to make me l-leave! They were telling me that I’m no better than the perverted boys, that I should have to be with them like the d… dyke I am. And you know what I did?”
“You stood up to them?”
“No! That’s the worst p-part!” Natsuki brought a hand up and smacked herself in the forehead, making it clear that most of the frustration was towards herself. “I didn’t do anything but stand there and cry! All day, people were avoiding me, running out of the bathroom when I’d walk in and not walking next to me, holding their skirts to their bodies like they thought I’d try to take pictures under them! I-it’s all over social media, the only person who stood up for me was Otoha since she’s an upperclassman, but she’s so timid they just made fun of her, too.”
Bakugou was at a loss for words, having never been met with a situation like this before. The more she talked and explained the bullying she endured, the angrier he became. His babygirl was everything to him, and knowing that he hadn’t been able to protect her from such emotional trauma made him feel like a failure as a father. But what could he do? Confront their parents? Confront the children? The school? He had to do something, and he would do anything to protect her.
“Matsuki wasn’t there for me to go to, or to talk sense into anyone like he had always been able to do before. Because Mr. Smart-Butt just had to graduate early.” With the cup of milk sitting between her legs, she crossed her arms over her chest, though it looked more to Bakugou like she was hugging herself. “I’m so stupid to think that people actually liked me. That I could have real friends being the freak that I am.”
“You’re not a freak, Natsuki.” Bakugou had to stop her there, feeling his stomach clench at the way she degraded herself like that. “Liking girls and being quirkless doesn’t make you a freak.”
“That’s not what everyone else thinks. They all see me as something weird and scary, especially now with all these stupid rumors. Even the teachers are being weird! I’ll never have friends or be normal…”
“Who the fuck wants to be normal?” Bakugou leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he clasped his hands in front of him. “I want you to tell me something, Natsuki. Who matters most to you?”
Wiping her face, Natsuki struggled to speak behind hiccups. “Y-you and Mama. My brothers… Uncle Seiji and Doey.”
“Do we love you?”
“Y-yes. Well, Atsuki is up in the air, I think.” Natsuki shrugged. “Daddy, where are you going with this, I don’t get it.”
“After you graduate, who’s going to be in your life? Those people from school? Natsu, the people who don’t care about you won’t be with you after you move on with your life. You are training to become a badass fighter under a famous pro hero. You are going to be successful and happy with people around you that love you for everything that you are. And where will those bullies be?”
“Who gives a fuck.”
“Who gives a fuck! Exactly!” Bakugou held his arms open, motioning with his right hand for her to come to him. “Come here, babygirl.” Sniffling, Natsuki scooted closer to him, leaning against his side as he put an arm around her while she sipped at her milk. “I know things are hard right now, with Matsuki out of school and all these new changes in your life trying to be who you are. But you can’t let these stupid insecure girls scare it out of you.”
“But no one listens to me when I try to tell the truth. How do I prove I’m not a pervert?”
“Baby, all you have to do is stand your ground. Sometimes the more you try to prove something, to fight against it, the more you just condemn yourself to more ridicule. The right people will come around in time. Those who don’t matter aren’t worth your tears.” Bakugou reached up and wiped her cheeks, softly pushing her hair back out of her face. “You know who you are. You know what the truth is. You’re my daughter and you don’t take shit from anyone. Just… try to not get in any fights. You’ve already gotten too many write ups for that.”
Natsuki sighed, shoving another chocolate in her mouth. “Can I at least punch Hori? Please?”
“No, Natsu. I… am sorry about Hori, though. I know you liked her a lot.”
Grumbling in annoyance, Natsuki just gave a shrug. “Whatever, she’s not worthy of me, anyways. You never went through stuff like this?”
“Ah, I mean… I had people that hated me. The majority of the school, in fact… I had a couple of friends and your mother who always stood by me, helping guide me out of my shit attitude I carried for a long time. But I never gave up on my goals and who I wanted to become. And if that meant I had to be an asshole to some people, then I was going to be a fucking asshole to them. Because in the end, they didn’t matter. No one was, or is, going to stop me from reaching my goals. I had the people that mattered, and still do.”
“I can’t wait to be out of high school… I’m only a first year and I already hate everyone.” Natsuki handed a chocolate to Bakugou, who took and ate it without question.
“Just remember to use those emotions to drive you towards something positive, like your training. Beat the shit out of Doey tomorrow while you rant about this to Eguchi, too. I’m sure he’ll have some type of advice for you that may or may not match up with mine.”
Natsuki finally cracked a smile, leaning her head on his shoulder as she looked up at him. “He’d just tell me to beat them up. You’re… not gonna talk to the school, are you?”
“I am, Natsuki. I can’t just let this type of behavior go. I’ll call their parents, too. I love you too much to let little shit head girls make you cry.”
“I love you, too, Daddy. Thank you for coming to talk to me and letting me eat all your special chocolates. Can we go do some training before dinner?”
“Sure. A little constructive training is good to get out all that rage. And it’ll make you hungry, too. Mom’s cooking your favorite.”
“Score! I -- burp -- Oh geez, too many chocolates.”
“That was weak.”
“Like your stinky face! Hey, no tickling, you’ll make me spill my milk!”

The O.G Ship BakuMon!!!
BakuMon
Bakugou Katsuki x Monst
All characters 18+
Warnings: Pure dumbassery at it’s finest! I have a big ass lack of Bakugou asks and I was bored so it manifested into this. When I’m bored I want to bother people but there was no one for me to tease so this happened. Also, it’s about time that this ship gets fans ‘cause Hori said it’s canon! (Jk) Anywhos I don’t ever wanna hear ya say I don’t entertain ya!
(I also canon Bakugou as Ace feel free to ask why)
sfw
How did Bakugou and Monst end up together? There both emotionally stunted aces so wtf happened? Dunno story for another time and plot holes exist and I’m not feeling creative. And this is long enough as it is :/
When they first get together it’s almost the same as when they were friends except that they get red in the face when either initiates hand holding….. Hugs? Hugs come into the relationship five months later and none of these touch starved fools want to stop cuddling when it happens.
Bakugou has also forgotten what it feels like to drive because Monst hogs both cars and, doesn’t like sharing.
As stated this relationship looks very platonic on the outside just two idiots doing normal things. A two hour hug here, sweaty hand holding there and oh lord a kiss?!!! After seven months these beans are progressing way too fast!!
That aside these two have lots of fun competing. Whether it be on the best tasting dish to who can drink more cups of water. Both dumbasses love to go hiking! “Why the hell is it that you can read a car GPS just fine but you can’t read a goddamn map to save your life!” “It said to turn here!” “Yeah? Then why haven’t we reached the otherside?!” “……we took a wrong turn….” “You mean you!” “I’m not the only one standing here you took it too” “because I going off what you said!” “Well who the heck- aww que cute! Look at you trusting me” “Shut up! This is the last time I trust you give me the damn map!” “Pfft your still blushing” “I’m leaving you here” “you know I have legs right?….oh silent treatment real mature…”
These two can really get into things and forget the others existence. So when Bakugou wants attention he has to rip Monst away from what she’s reading. When Monst wants attention she becomes terrifying. Relentlessly teasing and bothering him until he gets mad. Because Monst loves ticking people off when she’s bored. But, it’s worth it in the end because nothing cools his anger quicker than her giving him the innocent look and, telling him she only bothers him ‘casue she likes him. Which switches there teasing roles.
“Oi you’re doing it wrong” “No I’m not this is how it goes,” “no it doesn’t, look just let me do it” “No, you think you can do it better or something??” “Of course” “is that a challenge?“  This conversation can go either way :’D
But all that aside they know that they can be vulnerable with each other. This is only because there so damn honest and they know that they won’t ever betray each other. They know no judgment will be dished and can express all there frustrations. Whether there venting or want comfort. Ears are listening and arms are open. These bums are loud when angry but, they know what to do. Good thing they keep a punching bag.
“Katsuki is to much of a pussy to go to the store and buy me pads. Hell he wouldn’t dare. Ha him have the guts to walk out of Walmart with vagina soap? Nope.” “I’m at Walmart which fucking brand you want.” “The one to the left of the razors oh and get me some bubble bath. Yup that’s the one.” “We’re taking a bath?” Yeah Monst is really adept at getting what she wants but so is he.
“Let’s go to the gym.” “Can’t I’m busy” “the book isn’t going anywhere” “what’s the schedule?” “The usual. But I’m doing two extra laps” “Have fun” “Knew you’d bail. Of course you wouldn’t be able to handle it.” He walks out the door with a grin because Monst has a proper workout bra and is slipping on her sneakers. “I’m not going cause you told me too, it’s just that I decided that I need to workout more” “Yeah sure.”
Monst really doesn’t take his shit when he’s bashing other people, especially his mother. “Apologize” “What? No.” “You are going to call her back and apologize for that rude ass tone or else.” “Oh yeah? Or else what?” Bakugou learned that you should listen to what Monst says or suffer the consequences. Monst learned not to threaten Bakugou so much…. Also Bakugou is ticklish….
It’s probably been a year or more and people are a bit curious. “So tell me how’s Bakugou in bed Monst?” “I dunno.” “Wait what?!! But you guys have been together for a long ass time!” “So what? It’s not like that shits the most important thing.“
"Katsuki what the heck are you looking at?” “Now that I think of it you’ve given me full body massages” “Yeah?” “You’ve seen me naked but, I don’t even know what you look like naked.” “Your point?"
Nsfw
Intimacy between Bakugou and I? Oh lord have mercy! So how do two aces who have never had sex have sex?
Awkwardly is how. I’m talking red faces and "I already took something off you next” The air is just thick with unfamiliarity. Like these virgins know what to do but, there very hesitant and insecure.
Bakugou’s eyes look down at her now exposed tiddies. “Stop staring ya perv.” “There big” “your one to talk?!” He comes closer and Monst looks away when his hand cup her breasts. “Does it feel good?” “I don’t know your just holding them. Besides why the heck are you touching me it was your turn to take something off.” “Shut up” “you shut up-ah” “you. Shut. Up.” “Freakin make me bitc-mmph”
But once they get it going there hooked. These newly turned demi’s will wanna fuck all the time……..It’s still awkward.
Bakugou is in the mood and Monst is none the wiser. He looks down at her with bedroom eyes a smirk on his face cornering the bespectacled girl. So she gives him the wtf do you want face. Until his lips meet her neck and he’s grinding on her. “O-oh y-you want to t-that.” Pulls back “what you didn’t want to?” “I mean I guess. I’m not busy or anything..” “*snort* way to ruin the mood” “oh so now you don’t want to?” “What?- "no I see how it is you get me all riled up then you go off and say you dont wanna” “Wait?” "No, no it’s all good.” “Where the hell are you going?!” “I mean if you don’t give me the vitamin D I gotta- "hell no.”
When Monst is in the mood the social cues are even worse. Red staining her face she grabs onto his wrist pressing her body to his thick ass arm. “I um…you..we you know.” Luckily Bakugou has become a code despherer “You tryna fuck?” He is very cocky about it because Monst begs for no one. But he’s an asshole who will tease and Monst wont put up with it and tells him “I have hands you know. Just asked you cause I’d thought it’d be easier but if your not-” “Dont even fucking finish that sentence. I’m gonna fuck you so good you’ll forget your damn name.”
These brats will get kinky real quick. Although the conversations that proceed the kinky titty titty bang bang are so cringeworthy. As a switch Monst wasn’t gonna let him dictate all the time so when the strap on came on Bakugou’s ass virginity came off. “You liked it. Admit it.” “You fuck like a bitch” “says the bitch I fucked, made you cum two times with my big ass ween” “it wasn’t even that big” o.O
I can’t even I cringed so hard writing this. Like do ya know how hard it is to write yourself with a character??!!! Its so weird. Lmaoo it doesn’t feel right 🤣 That and, you couldn’t pay me to write anything detailed with Kacchan and I having sex hell no, no way I’ll write it with others yes but naw b I dont play that shit. O/////O
Okay now comes the real question: Rip it? Or Ship it?

BNHA Rewatch: Season 1 Episode 7 “Deku vs Kacchan”
 mysterylover123
Tumblr media
Here. We. Go!
Backstory time. (I guess this episode is all about Deku and Kacchan, BTW, so no corner this time. Too much stuff would be in there). Deku recounts their past together. The phrasing is different in different translations. I like how honest Deku is about his rival’s character - how he’s not necessarily “good” or “evil”, but became kind of an asshole after developing his quirk. Also, cute!
More below the cut
Tumblr media
Poor Iida, BTW. Saddled with the Worst Teammate Ever. (at least right now. Contrast point: JTA Bakugou)
Tumblr media
Though Deku isn’t much better! Sure, get rid of Uraraka! it’s not like you’re fighting a powerful opponent or anything! Not like that Zero G couldn’t solve this problem easily! (You just really wanna mono y mono him, don’t you Deku?)
Tumblr media
Deku being strategic! (Why isn’t Bakugou considered captured then and there? All Might said! Capture tape! Shouldn’t that have…oh never mind, who cares. Fight!)
Tumblr media
Here we have the explanation as to why Deku tells Kacchan about his quirk: Kacchan thinks Deku’s been lying to him. And the thing is, he…well, has. Not his whole life, but he has lied to his mom, and presumably via sin of omission, to everyone in his middle school (and UA), including Bakugou. Which Deku is fine with - for everyone else. Because it’s All Might’s secret, and it’s understandable, and Bakugou later reprimands him for telling even him. But that’s the thing. Deku doesn’t feel comfortable lying to Bakugou, and Bakugou alone. For some reason.
Tumblr media
Yes, he has a good, rational explanation of why he didn’t work with Uraraka and let her go off to fight Iida. But he immediately undercuts it by reminding us that he does, in fact, wish to fight Kacchan himself. Again, why Filler!Deku is so scared of meeting Kacchan’s challenges head-on when he’s been fully committed to being his rival since Episode7/Chapter 9 is beyond me.
Tumblr media
I kinda like how Bakugou has no Tragic Backstory or reason to be the way he is beyond being told his whole life that he’s better than everyone else. It’s such a perfect deconstruction of that Main Hero mindset - you see this same setup in so many other stories, where the Chosen One hero is told from a young age that he’s Destined for Greatness or whatever. And he’s always a perfect cinnamon roll. Instead of the kind of person that treatment would really create. Basically, someone like Bakugou.
Tumblr media
More adorable/mean flashbacks. (It’s like watching South Park. They’re so mean but the art style is so cute!) I like how Deku, even LilDeku, doesn’t take shit from Kacchan. He talks back. And he never stops following him around.
Tumblr media
Ah, the defining moments. Deku is declared Quirkless and therefore worthless (somebody hug him!) Then the creek incident. This scene is so cute, and it starts this big  visual motif throughout the series pertaining to these two: Deku’s outstretched hand. (one translation I heard of “The Day” translates the line right before they fight in the OP as “reach out and finally take my hand”, which is perfect). But yes, there is this long buildup for Bakugou to one day cast aside that pride, realize that Deku just wants to help him, and Take. That. Hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iidaraka! This scene is so hilariously funny. If I wasn’t already in love with this series before, this moment  clinched it. Iida pretending to be a villain, complete with monologuing (I bet the dub was intentionally referencing The Incredibles there.) Cute Iichaco moment here, I love how he cracks her up. (Though Iida also makes the mistake of taking it too easy on her here. He doesn’t go for the knockout punch and loses for it. Thankfully a certain hothead does not make that same mistake in the sports festival.)
Tumblr media
This freaked me out hard the first time I saw it. It’s such a hit. Like damn, how is Deku even alive now? The way it’s animated is so brutal! Though there is an explanation for the giant gauntlets and Bakugou’s quirk that makes a ton of sense here though; Hori even explained how his parents’ quirks made the power later on! It’s all so well thought out.
Tumblr media
So again, this also freaked me out the first time around. He looks fucking crazy (And I loooove crazy characters. Deku the Absolute Madman and Bakugou’s crazyface are a big part of why I watch this series). But later on this gets a callback when All Might is talking about Bakugou “smiling in the face of a wall”, compiled with his smile when facing Uraraka and All Might. So this puts Deku on the same level as those two, the only two opponents Bakugou truly respects. Well, well. :)
BTW the second of the two manga chapters this episode is based on is called “Breaking Bakugou”. Just a funny bit of trivia.
Tumblr media
Uraraka’s main character flaw at this point, her general lackadaisacal attitude and lack of willingness to just jump in and take initiative, shows up in this arc, and she makes her first step towards overcoming it. She’s inspired by how much Deku wants to win to Go Plus Ultra. I think Uraraka is a character who tends to mold herself after the people around her (her parents, Deku, even Bakugou post Sports Fest briefly), hence why Toga is her Evil Counterpart. This is her flaw, that she doesn’t quite know who she is outside of copying others, and what she needs to overcome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get some comedy as Bakugou gets jealous of Deku ignoring him again. Notice me you damn nerd! You idiot baka!
Tumblr media
Kirishima’s first impressions of Bakugou are all so terrible. It’s hilarious in hindsight since they end up BFFs, but he really thought Bakugou was a reckless asshole the first time around. Also Todoroki’s first line is talking about how Bakugou is smarter than he looks. So let’s enjoy some of my personal headcanon, namely that if Kiri has a crush on a member of Wonder Duo it’s actually Deku, and for Todoroki it’s actually Bakugou. Yes, the reverse of what everyone else thinks.
Tumblr media
This fight is so damn brutal. Bakugou pays Deku back in kind for bodyslamming him. Of course, I loved that Deku was planning something that whole time (I knew, first time around, when his dialogue with Uraraka was muted, that he had a plan up his sleeve. And what a plan it is!). But still, watching him get beaten up this badly is hard to see.
Tumblr media
Now the big buildup moment. Deku confesses the truth: He wants to beat Kacchan because he thinks Kacchan is amazing. Bakugou thinks Deku is looking down on him, which is such a weird way to twist Midoriya’s behavior - but makes sense if Bakugou, deep down, knows that Deku totally can. And Deku, he just wants to surpass him. As he puts it later on, his image of Victory.
Tumblr media
YOU SAY RUN. Drink! As an aside, All Might has a very interesting role in the whole Deku vs Kacchan thing. Not only is he the reason for their conflict (each idolize him/wanna be like him in different ways), he also perpetuates it willingly here by not stopping the fight. And he does so because he wants to support Deku. Which is interesting. All Might has some perception into Midoriya, and he comments here that this is the most pumped up he’s seen Deku. Bakugou brings that out in Midoriya, and that’s why All Might is, overall, rather supportive of them mending their friendship, ending up as Wonder Duo, the best heroes who Win and Rescue. Because Deku needs that  challenge in his life to amp him up. To keep him going.
Tumblr media
And now Deku’s plan. I’m not sure if the Entrance Exam bit counts, because at the time he didn’t know how badly his body would be effed up, but this time he does. So I’m calling it: The first instance of Absolute Madman Deku. My favorite Deku moments are always these bits, where he does something so crazy and brilliant and self-destructive that it shouldn’t work, but because he’s also clever, it totally does. And with Uraraka’s teamwork, the Hero Team wins!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We end on a moment between Deku and Kacchan, where Deku (pulling the first of his true Crazy Eyes faces) tells Kacchan that he was not, in fact, looking down on him, and only holding back because he’d be hurt. And the anime adds, from the Manga, Kacchan looking kind of shocked about what he’s seeing, maybe even a little guilty/horrified by Deku hurting himself. What an ending!
Tumblr media
So the first time around, after watching the first four eps day-by-day at work, I had a weekend where I binged through the rest of Season 1, so my first impressions of the rest of the season aren’t as clear to me as those first few episodes. In hindsight, I think this is one of the best episodes of Season 1, and one of the first that really started fleshing out these characters into the complex little tragic heroes they are today. It’s all just glimpses of the surface; little to indicate how much is really lying beneath. But it’s important, nonetheless, as an early indicator.

10. Deku vs Kacchan 1
This is my favorite fight of S1. I love the strategy that Deku uses.
9. Deku vs Muscular
So hard to watch. So much pain. The tears the joy. Everything.
8. Todoroki and Momo vs Aizawa
Momo needs more fights. But she and Todoroki make a great tag team.
7. Deku and Kacchan vs All Might
As do Wonder Duo. Fighting All Might is just cool. Character Development!
6. Deku vs Overhaul
Season 4 is going to be Lit.
5. Hero Killer Stain vs UA Students
Such a multilayered fight. Three great fighters  vs one unstoppable villain.
4. Uraraka vs Bakugou
Absolutely astounding. Full of surprises and emotional and cool.
3. Deku vs Todoroki
An absolute tearjerker and unbelievably brutal. Cannot watch without getting nervous.
2. Deku vs Kacchan Part 2
Partly the animation, which is so beautiful it should be in the Louvre. But also the fight itself. Of course. Strategy, emotion, Deku and Kacchan.
Hon Mention: The Movie’s Class A and All Might vs Metal Villain, All Might vs Nomu, Todoroki vs Bakugou, all the Beta Sports Fest fights, Jiro and Koda vs Present mic, Tetsu and Kendo vs Mustard, Deku vs Gentle and La Brava, Endeavor vs high End.

Why I don’t
there is,, literally nothing about tenya that i don’t absolutely adore. there’s not a single thing i’d change. i’m trying to think of something, no matter how small or petty, that i dislike about him and there’s,,, literally nothing
Favourite episode (scene if movie)
his fight against stain alongside midoriya and todoroki. just,,, the raw emotion. the hurt. the struggle. the learning. the growing. the fucking pulling a knife out of his arm with his teeth. the fucking SAVING TODOROKI’S LIFE. todoroki almost got sliced in half and iida snapped that blade in half JUST before it hit todoroki. the kick to stain’s side. everything about that fight was,, amazing. superb.
Favourite season/movie
overall fav season of bnha is season 3, and probably always will be. but fav season of tenya content? season 2. i just,,, really love the stain fight
Favourite line
Tumblr media
that one time tenya told stain to ‘catch these hands’
Favorite outfit
i really,,, love tenya’s hero outfit. it’s honestly so aesthetically pleasing.
Tumblr media
amazing
OTP
i ship,,, everything. well, almost everything. seriously tho put him up with almost anyone and i’ll ship that shit. but the one i put on a pedestal? shiniida. my otp man god that good shit
Brotp
also works as poly-otp but also damn good platonic: iida/midoriya/uraraka/todoroki. amazing. quality. i love.
Head Canon
tenya started the lgbt+ club in UA and is very proud of it and its members. he organises multiple events and reaches out to the general public of UA to invite everyone. he’s genuinely so fucking happy when people join and welcoming. supportive leader who would do anything for his club members
Unpopular opinion
tenya can swear. it just has to tick certain boxes. time. appropriateness. company. location. a reason. there is just rarely a time when all these line up to the point he feels it’s acceptable to swear. if tenya is alone in the comfort of his own room, with the door shut, and he stubs his toe? he will absolutely say ‘fuck’. no one has had the privileged to hear him cuss but there’s been a couple times he’s been tempted to fire one at bakugou.
A wish
give me tenya vs stain part 2. give me a bigger fight with tenya’s heroics shining through. show us how much he’s grown as a person and a hero since their first fight. give me tenya catching stain and saving the day. that’s a lil sad tho too so let me do a happy wish too
give me more tenya and tensei hanging out. give me the entire iida family. he has three younger brothers, right? i can never find a source on this but apparently that’s a thing? where are they? give me the iida fam. i want to study all their eyebrows and where their engines are (assuming they have engines). but give me that iida brothers content!
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
don’t you dare ever fucking kill him hori. my fear of iida dying in the stain arc is what made me read the manga. leave him alone. and DON’T!! FUCKING BULLY HIM!! don’t you dare ever hurt him by his friends.
5 words to best describe them
beautiful square boy deserves world
My nickname for them
my son. gorgeous. good boy. baby. angel. square. tenyah~. mother hen. stain remover. light of my life.

Note
for the bnha asks, what are your thoughts on 22 & 28?
Thanks for the asks! And to any reading this that are anime only, any spoilers I may mention will be *starred* before hand, just in case.
22. The ones I can honestly recall off the top of my head that genuinely surprised me.
Sudden Iida moments
- The moments where Iida suddenly does a huge action that turns the situation on its head. The ones I refer to in particular are the sudden burst during the Calvary Battle, the Joint Training Battle, * and him bursting through the air to reach out and taking Midoriya’s hand while he was trying to escape from them after running away from UA. *
Throughout the story, Iida had gradually been placed to the sidelines more, being replaced by characters like Todoroki and Bakugou, coming across more as comic relief (save for during his personal arc with Stain). And it’s saddening because I do believe he’s such a great character. So those moments in particular happened, I was shocked and overjoyed because those moments highlight how powerful he is and why he deserves to rub shoulders with Midoriya, Todoroki and Bakugou.
Blackwhip’s Debut
- Even though we get hints before hand, I personally had no idea that Izuku was going to get such a significant power up, or it was going to happen/emerge like that. When we get introduced to Banjo and how his quirk works, I was actually surprised that Horikoshi decided to go this route. The results of the decision, I’ll admit, is a mixed bag.
Overhaul vs Mirio fight
- To be honest, this was one of the best fights throughout the entire manga imo. Mirio juggling to take down Overhaul and his goons while staying two steps ahead of them along with protecting Eri. Mirio losing his quirk. And of course Mirio STILL fighting Overhaul with nothing but his body. I still tear up a bit watching it because Mirio was nothing short but incredible.
Those were my genuine surprising moments.
28. For me, All Might. Literally within the course of three episodes, I adored this man. He was charismatic, powerful and genuinely funny. Him having the Superman-like figure and still being hilarious to watch is difficult in my opinion, but Hori pulled it off easily. I could already see that AM was going to be a great literal father father figure to Izuku. I know some people thought he was horrible to Izuku when he said he couldn’t be a hero without a quirk, but I see it as him doing his job as a hero which was protecting him from the dangers of the world, as gently as he could. Because sometimes to do some good, you may have to come across as a bad guy. Plus, since AM was quirkless before receiving One For All, there was no other individual who could tell Izuku the truth better than him.
Thanks once again for the asks, @violetlunette
