Lesser god of a small stream. #One that grows bigger with time but always has the reputation of being benevolent and calm to those who seek its clear waters. #Do not pollute these waters or your ass is going to be bit. 1000 tiny puncture marks. #I imagine that's probably how wwx first meets him (accidently pours booze into lwj's river) (gets bit - gets bit - gets bit-) #WWX eventually befriends him through stubbornly showing up every week to give him offerings. #Takes him into town in a little pot of water to show him how the people live. Maybe go to a festival. #When the day is done and he's back in his river and alone - LWJ finally feels a new emotion...it is longing and loneliness.

So I just did some math, and y’all got me fucked up. I’ve seen so much handwringing in this fandom about the age disparity between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian’s body because “oh, lwj is soooooo much older than Mo Xuanyu, it ‘basically’ counts as a grooming that wwx was given such a young body and lwj is still attracted to him!”

It’s literally not true. Lan Wangji is around 33 at the start of the present-day plotline. Mo Xuanyu is 27. Y’all are so full of shit.

The math:

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are around the same age, give or take some months. They are 15/16 at the start of the Cloud Recesses arc, the discussion conference in Qishan happens less than two years later (16), the Wen indoctrination camp happens definitively when they are 17 (madam yu says so) a year later, then the Sunshot Campaign takes place 2 weeks after that with Lotus Pier’s fall. The war lasts for around a year or two, but wwx mentions he is 20 during the Phoenix Mountain hunt. This means he’s still 20 when he breaks the Wen remnants out of the labor camps 2 months later, and they abscond to the Burial Mounds. For Burial Mounds arc timeline, you have to go by A-Yuan/Lan Sizhui’s. A-Yuan is a teething toddler between one and two (jc deduces) in the Burial Mounds. He’s 15 at the start of the story 13 years later. The Burial Mounds settlement, therefore, lasts about a year. By the time of the siege, wwx should be 21 (again, give or take a few months). Thirteen years later, lwj is 33/34.

Mo Xuanyu, on the other hand, is given a definite age start. He is 14 when he is taken by Jin Guangshan back to Koi Tower. This happens after the siege but  before Nie Mingjue dies (Jin Guangyao mentions this in the chapt. 79 flashback during his argument with Nie Mingjue about Xue Yang), and Nie Mingjue dies a year after the first siege takes place. This would mean that Mo Xuanyu is 14 when the siege happens and, 13 years later, he would be 27 when he sacrifices his body to summon Wei Wuxian.

Mo Xuanyu is not some barely-legal young adult at the start of the story, and the age difference, besides, would be 7 years at most. The fact that this is regular discourse is embarrassing.

idk how to explain it really well, but what makes me obsessed with teenji and generally what sets apart lan wangji from the usual cold, stoic and inexpressive hot character is the reveal, early on, that he is just a little guy

inspired by that one piece of iconic muppets mdzs fanart of the wangxian confession scene, i am forced to concede that jgy is the most likely candidate to remain human amongst all the rest. i just went hunting for the fanart and could not find it, maybe one of my followers can do us a solid and find it for us.

[Jiang Cheng: The Wen cultivator whom Wei Wuxian wanted to save is called Wen Ning. He and his sister Wen Qing helped us a lot in the Sunshot Campaign.

This scene is driving me INSANE because based on what transpires, we can assume:

1.) None of the Yunmeng trio has told anyone until this moment that Wen Qing and Wen Ning harbored them after the sack of Lotus Pier. (Lan Xichen’s defense of the Wen siblings is based on his understanding of their characters from their time at Cloud Recesses and their role in Wen Ruohan’s hierarchy; Lan Wangji only speaks up to refute the accusations that Wei Wuxian spoke dismissively of Jiang Cheng.)

2.) By extension, nobody but Jiang Cheng knows that Wen Ruohan straight-up imprisoned and tortured Wen Qing and Wen Ning for their actions.

3.) Jiang Cheng doesn’t provide additional information during this scene.

4.) Nobody asks Jiang Cheng for details.

5.) Nobody asks Jiang Yanli (who is in Jinlintai at this time) for details either.

6.) Nobody consults Jin Guangyao--who is in that room because he made it into Wen Ruohan’s inner circle--to confirm Wen Qing and Wen Ning’s status. (The truthfulness of his response is debatable, but they don’t know that!)

I know that “failure to communicate openly and honestly” is a recurring theme/source of tragedy in this series, but usually it’s about DEEP DARK SECRETS, not OBJECTIVE FACTS WHOSE REVELATION WOULD HURT NOBODY AND WOULD IN FACT HELP.

#LXC had a reason to keep MY's cover secret but WRH already knew WQ and WN had helped the Yunmeng trio so WHERE WAS THE NEED FOR SECRECY #you're just putting them in danger from your own side!!! #you're also making yourselves look super shady bc what if someone ELSE reveals that the Wens took you in and accuses you of collaborating? #this feels very much less like 'these characters are flawed multifaceted human beings' and more like 'the plot required this' #you expect me to believe JC wouldn't try to lowkey protect WQ #AND that JYL wouldn't confide to Madame Jin or JZX where she'd been #AND that WWX wouldn't invoke this debt when parting ways from LWJ? #ONE OF THEM WOULD TALK

Ok, so here’s the thing: Lan Wangji does not love Wei Wuxian to the exclusion of his morality.

What I mean by this is that Lan Wangji does not love Wei Wuxian, and it is only incidental that Wei Wuxian is also a good person. Lan Wangji loves Wei Wuxian because he is a good person, someone whose morality matches his own, a like soul, if you will. Lan Wangji choosing to stick with, support, and protect Wei Wuxian in his second life isn’t simply because he doesn’t want to lose wwx a second time, but because he wholly believes that wwx is in the right and there is no need to second-guess him (unlike in wwx’s first life where lwj was torn between clan expectations and wholeheartedly supporting wwx). These things are inherently intertwined in wangxian’s love narrative, to the point where it is actually out of character to suggest that Lan Wangji would come to care about someone he did not believe was righteous, let alone someone with confirmed dubious morality. Because Lan Wangji is also a morally upright character, and that is not a trait of his that he is willing to compromise for love.

i still remember one of the softest and most gratifying moments in mdzs for me was when after the second siege, wwx is so tired he passes out and lz carries him to take a nap, and they both get some cuddles out of it. like, it's very soft and romantic by itself, but also, MAN.

he'd gone through so much both physical and mental turmoil with the stab wound, the accusations, the memory flashback, the blood pool corpses, etc. i was exhausted FOR him and when he finally got to take a little nap and receive some comfort from his favorite person in the world. well. maybe i cried a little
