In Baltimore City, MD: Beautiful, affectionate, and intelligent, dog-friendly Husky is looking for rescue placement - BARCS, Baltimore MD
- Rescue Needed -
Blizzard- 3 years, altered female, 40lbs
Meet Blizzard! This beautiful, sweet girl recently came to our shelter as a stray, underweight and covered in urine and feces, but she still has the calmest, friendliest energy around. She walks easily, isn't bothered by other dogs outside, and enjoys pets. She is highly treat-motivated (focused like a laser) to sit.
When tested off-leash in the shelter's play yard, Blizzard was a bit tense and unsure of other dogs at first, but eventually loosened up after a few minutes and was ready to bounce around and play chase briefly.
Upon initial examination, our vets noted that Blizzard appeared overall generally very healthy. After some time in our care, staff noticed that Blizzard was favoring one of her back legs. X-rays taken while under sedation for spay showed possible partial or complete cruciate tear/rupture. She's been started on pain meds for now and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Blizzard is available immediately for rescue pick-up, and due to her medical and need for surgery, we are hoping to secure rescue placement for her as soon as possible.
Please let us know if your organization can help!
Thank you,
The BARCS Rescue Team

In Baltimore City, MD: 4 y/o friendly and affectionate Husky mix is seeking urgent rescue placement! - BARCS, Baltimore MD
URGENT RESCUE!!!!
4 years, altered female, 46lbs
Snowstorm came to the shelter due to no fault of her own, but because her owners could no longer continue caring for her. She has been described as energetic and playful, housebroken and able to be crated, and she enjoys running and playing tug-of-war.
While in our shelter's care, Snowstorm has been very affectionate and will sit politely for treats. She enjoys chasing balls in the play yard and has the cutest prance/run while she does so- she will even bring the ball back to you too!
When tested off-leash in the shelter's play yard, Snowstorm is a rowdy, playful pal with other dogs. She is quite vocal and pushy at times but was also able to coexist peacefully when necessary.
Staff has witnessed Snowstorm growling and hovering over the water bowl in the play yard when other dogs have approached. Her former also stated she has "food aggression", however also noted that they felt comfortable "taking food/treats from her mouth."
Snowstorm has shown high prey drive while out on walks as well as in her previous home, so it is recommended she go to a home with no small animals.
Unfortunately, while Snowstorm appeared overall very healthy when she arrived in our care, she did have diarrhea in her kennel on 3/10, which ended up testing positive for Parvovirus, so she has been moved to isolation and we are monitoring her closely.
Snowstorm is available immediately for rescue pick-up.
Please let us know if your organization can help!

So we just adopted Cynthia, who is a rescue husky not quite a year old, from a local rescue, on Wednesday.
We lost our sweet Staffie Jasmine suddenly in February, which was awful. Cynth is definitely a big difference, esp for a disabled person with fatigue issues, but she is a wonderful, wonderful soul and we already adore her deeply.
Isn’t she beautiful? The rescue did the most wonderful job rehabbing her - she was seized on welfare grounds after being horribly neglected as a smol pup, and was apparently not only skeletal but so afraid of humans she flinched when someone came close enough to fill her water bowl when she got to them. Now she’s this stunning, sweet-natured, derpy bundle of energy who adores playing and belly rubs but has adjusted wonderfully to walking on a lead with me using a rollator and realises she has to be quite gentle with me because I’m a bit wobbly.
Honestly, I feel so fucking *privileged* to be able to give her a home with a decent-sized garden where she gets to sleep in a big pile on a bed with us and to be able to take her out for walks in wild parks - she *adores* woodlands and long grass and wildflowers, and once her recall is a wee bit better she’ll be able to get off her lead entirely.
She’s already improving so much at learning to stay but I’m so looking forward to taking her to training classes to help speed her along, mostly because I think she’s going to love them. She’s a clever soul and enjoys learning. She’s met the big lurcher-Staffie cross next door and got some off-lead play in her garden today, which is clearly the most fun she’s ever had. It was *adorable* to watch ❤️🐺❤️

Our sweet rescue husky, Cynthia, out having the time of her life in a local park, then passed out exhausted and safe when we got home.
The amount she has grown, learned and developed since we rescued her just three months ago is almost impossible to encapsulate. We heard from the SSPCA that when they rescued her as a puppy she was a fur-covered skeleton who was terrified of humans. Now she’s this confident, sociable, sweet pup with fantastic recall who spent most of yesterday curled up looking after me while I was having a flare-up.
No one ever expects pups like Cynthia, who appears to be a purebred husky as far as anyone can tell, to end up in rescue. The SSPCA told us they had actually had quite a lot of trouble placing her because she took a little time to warm up to new people - and by that I do mean about twenty minutes, which is no longer the case. Now she keeps trying to mug other dog parents for treats when we are out and about ;)
I suspect her exercise needs might have been preying on people’s minds. Given I have a fatigue condition, it was preying on ours too, but we have genuinely managed much better than I feared. I am home all day as I am chronically ill and studying a Master’s degree remotely, and she *really* benefits from that - she’s not as clingy as our sweet Staffie Jasmine who died in February, but she really needs constant company.
Oh, and she has handled my mobility devices so much better than just about any other pup I’ve ever met.
