Random hcs I have because I may be cringe but I'm free part 23 (Ninjago)
HOLUP CAUSE I ONLY STARTED REALLY THINKING ABT THIS AN HOUR OR TWO AGO AND I ALREADY ADORE IT
WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THIS BEFORE ITS PRACTICALLY CANON
Ok, I feel like if you exclude familial relationships like Nya and Lloyd, (andromanticrelationshipslikeColecuzthisismyheadcanon) Zane and Kai are most definitely best friends.
(I know I made that post a while ago about Kai and Jay's dynamic and don't get me wrong those two are another example of why the ninja are the found family of ever, but you can tell that sometimes they just get really fed up with each other lol)
Like, dont quote me on this but I'm pretty sure those two haven't even had a really serious argument since SEASON ONE, Kai was the one to deliver that speech at Zane's funeral, speaking of which he was utterly distraught after those events, they were together at the beginning of s8 (much like the CANON bff's, Jay and Cole), they had a lot of fun interactions in s9 when Jay was really out of it, and the entirety of their scenes in s13 were just gold, and thats just the big stuff I can come up with off the top of my head. I guarantee there's a lot more subtle moments and definitely more big ones that I just can't recall rn (I mean, I completely skipped over seasons 4-7) and the more I think abt it the more I realize how well these two work together. In fact, I remember reblogging smth abt their dynamic as the ones to step up as leaders/advisors or even making plans when the others can't and don't even get me started on the fact that they're literally opposite elements. Istg you could sum up their whole relationship by saying they balance each other out. Kai is impulsive and emotional normally but thinks logically when it really counts, and Zane thinks everything through logically but still makes purely emotionally driven decisions when tensions are running high enough. Kai has his whole 'hot-shot and I would kill for this family' personality that sometimes leaves him a little morally gray, and Zane's morals are so deeply embedded into who he is that the idea of protecting someone who can't protect themselves is enough to remind him who he is when he literally should have no memory of ever hearing those words in that order and had never even heard of a white lie before s13. They're both really sweet and care about the people close to them a lot, but Zane tends to express those feelings in words while Kai speaks more with his actions. Zane is more mellow while Kai has higher energy, I could go on and on. My point is, they balance each other's extremes out wonderfully and have just enough in common to be even closer than a purely 'opposites attract' friendship and the rest of the team would fall apart without those two and their dynamic 😌

In honor of the @rw-ship-showdown I wanted to write about Artihunter as someone who jokingly slapped them together pre-downpour and still thinks they are actually very compelling. Just not in the super soft love wins kinda way (Although I get why people like that more) And the only way I know how to do that is talking too much so heres a far too long slug essay-
Obviously the slugcats don't offer a ton of characterization but theres not nothing to work with. Their stories, whether by their roles in it or the overarching themes do provide a backbone to work with. Even gameplay itself can provide a bit. (for some more than others) Hunter, to me, is ultimately a story about selflessness. The goal is to revive Moon, which is very much an act of kindness from both Hunter and NSH. But the weight of that action is much more significant for Hunter- Hunter is deeply sick. They're on the clock, and for all their skill in combat none of that will ultimately help them to survive longer than their body can hold out. Moon is a close friend of NSH but that means little Hunter- Hunter really gets next to nothing out of helping them, and ultimately pays quiet a bit spending their limited time alive fighting to deliver that neuron so that someone else can live.
To spend ones limited days on helping another, in a game that very much stresses the unwavering cruelty of the world and nature- is pretty notable. (And you could even say that Hunter being the Hardmode of Rain World adds another layer to this)
And then we have Artificer. A storyline that very much stands out to people as more… villainous (so to speak) than the other slugcats. Artificer's story covers a lot of things. Trauma, violence, revenge, etc. Revenge is a bit of a selfish desire- That need to see someone hurt as they have hurt you. A punishment that ultimately does not fix whatever harm was done- but feels good to see because you were hurt and now those responsible share that pain.
Artificer's actions are founded in that need for revenge, their pups killed for overstepping boundaries they didn't know existed. Is it not fair for them to be angry at that, to punish the scavengers for their violence with their own? Why should the scavengers ever be forgiven when they and their pups were not? And that's how you get that loop- Harm for harm over and over.
The original action has been lost in a spiral of violence for violence. And here stands Artificer- their very spirit scarred. Not just because they sought revenge, but because they never ceased trying to scratch that itch for violence as an answer. Artificer only has two paths for their story- killing the scavenger king (Someone who, really, has little to do with the original 'crime' of the scavengers, but represents an important individual to them- as did the slugpups to Artificer), locking themselves as karma one for good and spending the rest of their life chasing creatures that no longer even fight back in a warped sense of closure- or to dissolve themselves in the acids of the void sea because they're too far gone to find any real peace.
They can't meaningfully recover from that state, not alone, twisting in on themselves. Even if they halt their actions, they've been using violence as a feeble defense against their own pain- violence that no longer has any real direction or basis. Artificer gets no real closure from killing the scavenger king. All they can do is continue the cycle, or try to scrub it away. No real peace in a prison of their own making. So you have a creature, who even with a strict timer on their life- a body that will crumble to disease, spends its last bit of time on saving another. And another who was so caught up in the pain of loss that were eaten alive by their own anger, poisoned their own soul on such a deep level even self-proclaimed gods have no solution for them. What peace can they offer each other? For Hunter, its only a fleeting moment of happiness- of selfish love, before their own body fails them. A bit of indulgence in something for themself. For Artificer, its a single, comforting thread to ground them again, something tangible to protect and care about again. But thats a thread that will ultimately be snapped under the cruel indifference of the world. Hunters timer will tick down regardless of if it takes another with it. Its a tragedy- its doomed to end badly. Whatever good it offers to either of them to find each other will only provide the fleeting comfort of a band-aid that will be ripped away too early. But all that can be worth indulging in anyway, if only for the moment. It doesn't change the ending, but the ending was never going to be happy. Its can so yuri

Posted about how I don’t care for/want a Jon/d*ny romance on r/asoiaf - and now I’m getting cooked for trying to be “unique” because they’re actuallyyyy the fated soulmates lovers of the series that are HEAVILY foreshadowed bc blue rose wolf howl shadowy lover and every reply that’s agreeing with me is getting downvoted to HELL.
It also just got me thinking about how people will bend over backwards about the obvious foreshadowing evidence for romantic j*nerys because ‘Martin is smart like that and places clues everywhere, nothing is a coincidence’ only to dismiss anything and everything about Jonsa because it’s a delusional crackship and everyone is reaching and everything is a coincidence and George isn’t truly thinking of any of their parallels and foreshadowings and their narrative relevance etc ….. and when Jonnel and Sansa Stark are brought up , it’s to ‘prove’ that Jon / D*ny will marry because it means the Starks are okay with uncle/niece marriage.
I hate it here so bad.

i love neuvifuri’s dynamic and relationship. like. imo they are the epitome of “we are inseparable, we are in love in every way, we are soulmates not by birth or due to fate binding us inexplicably but because we spent those 500 years being the one constant in each others lives and weve come to know each other the best, but we are simultaneously strangers. we never truly knew each other during all that time.“
and neuvillette knew for so long furina was keeping a secret from him and it pained him to force that secret into the light, but he knew he had to in order to save fontaine, and despite that he still wanted to do it as gently as possible. to make the trial the last resort if the travelers conversation didnt work. after the final events of the archon quest, he let furina go wherever she wished, he (if im remembering correctly) gave her a nice house and enough funds to do as she pleased and live comfortably. he used his new authority over hydro to give her a vision made specifically for her, the very first vision he has given out. he has made it as clear as day that she is welcome to talk to him, to ask to have tea, to ask him for whatever or simply just to talk.
neuvillette using those actions to say “i hope you let me know who you truly are, and allow me to stay in your life for as long as you wish, but i love you so i will not force you.”

I get sad thinking about how during ichigo and grimmjows fight in hm. Particularly the moment when he see sees orihime's terrified reaction to his mask. I think he considered her previous trauma with acid wire ofc, but how must he have felt when orihime looked at him like that? She was the girl who managed to make friends with everyone and empathized so deeply with even her enemies, let alone her closer friends. And she was looking at him, completely frozen with fear, and he hated being the source of it. It just makes my feelers hurt so bad for some reason :(
i think the great thing about this fight is that it lets you empathize with both ichigo and orihime without diminishing either of their feelings, which is just. good writing. i'd go so far as to say this fight is also superb because of how it manages to address many overarching themes at once: a) ichigo's human-hollow struggle that keeps rearing its head every now and then b) orihime's complicated relationship with violence c) grimmjow's twisted desire to feel validated by ichigo, who he sees as his own mirror d) ichigo & orihime's long-term struggle to cross the chasm that separates them and meet in the middle.
a lot of people focus on orihime's fear here, but the truth is, ichigo himself was afraid of his hollow and was NOT confident about his ability to control it. when he tells orihime not to be afraid without his mask on, he looks at her and smiles. with the mask, he doesn't even make eye contact. when he accidentally does make eye contact later on in the fight, it crushes him, and the beauty of this fight is that it's all carried out through body language. his heart sinks, and so does yours, if you're invested in the fight. ichigo's entire arc so far has been about mastering this side of himself that he's desperately afraid of losing to, and now the person he's protecting is afraid of him, too. he begins doubting himself: what if grimmjow is right? what if he really did just come here to fight?
if you look at orihime's side of things, she's not wrong either. orihime's entire arc was about self-doubt at this time. she was never really sure of her worth to others, so how could she be sure that ichigo, who's reiatsu is rougher and darker than usual (just like her dead brother) was fighting for her? she does eventually realize her effect on him with a little help from nel. but in the end, nel's testimony doesn't matter much either because orihime realizes she would love ichigo even if he wasn't fighting for her. she just doesn't want him to get hurt.
lucky for us, grimmjow isn't right and it's obvious that ichigo did indeed come to fight him—if only to protect everyone and take orihime back home. fighting is ichigo's means to an end. his reaction to orihime is our indicator of that. the great thing about this fight is what it tells us—that if ichigo was this affected by orihime's face, then it means he truly didn't come here just to fight. that nel's cheers did nothing to grab ichigo's attention, but orihime's first broken whisper did. that having orihime nearby reminds him of what he's fighting for, which is something that literally saves his human life when he's in vasto lorde form. he left his heart with her, just as she did with him before she left. if we began this journey with rangiku saying ichigo needs orihime, this arc shows us how. this fight shows us how. yes, orihime's fear caused him some pain, but none of us can deny how cocky he got when she cheered for him, either, so it goes both ways :D

theres multiple reasons i dont like s/urgeamy but one of the things ive seen people do with it that annoys me a bit is the idea that surge and kit are going to become good because surge is gonna fall in love with amy and thats gonna be her only motivation to change.. and im sorry but am i the only one who thinks it would suck so bad for such fun antagonists to instantly switch sides just because one of them was "fixed" by romance and no other reason

saw someone being wrong about kon on the internet again (i know. shocking) and you are all so lucky i'm sick and feverish and lazy because i DID just seriously entertain the thought of writing up a small essay complete with issue and panel citations about why it's simply incorrect to say that kon never really seemed to reciprocate any sort of crush on tim before geoff/tt03. this is just not true. you dont have to actually ship them but to downplay their importance to each other even in the earliest days is simply incorrect. i'm too tired and achy to bother digging through comics to pull up all the issues that have the bits i want to point at but like... they were both very mutually important to each other from early on. it was in no way shape or form one-sided, whether you want to read that as platonic or romantic. man.

How did Jesús x Joan people pop up here before ME. They're my favorite !! People should talk about them way more. Joan doesn't have many great options in men, so why not get a little holy with it? 🙏 joanfk is cute, but s2 lacks the bit of TRUE romance it had in s1. So, convert to joansus, thank you.

You can’t ship them! It’ll ruin their friendship!”
Alright then, tell me you’ve never been in a healthy romantic relationship without telling me you’ve never been in a healthy romantic relationship.
Okay seriously, you’re allowed to dislike a ship but don’t try to use this argument. People don’t suddenly stop being friends when they’re in a romantic relationship that was built on a strong foundation of platonic love. I understand in a society heavily based on heteronormativity and “romantic feelings > platonic love” narrative it might be a little jarring to some (this is sarcasm because it’s really NOT that hard to get)… but like. The best relationships I’ve been in I was still homies with my partner throughout, doing stupid shit together and enjoying their company and whatnot you know? If it’s a good, healthy relationship then adding romance to the mix doesn’t suddenly wipe away the friendship said relationship was built upon. You can and should be friends with your partner- amazing, I know.
Now, everyone repeat after me: friendship and romance are not mutually exclusive. Romance doesn’t inherently undermine friendship. Romance is not ‘better’/more important than friendship. YOU CAN AND SHOULD BE FRIENDS WITH YOUR PARTNER I CAN N O T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. If you still don’t think shipping two female characters with a strong friendship is okay, just- c’mon now, people, just admit you don’t wanna see two girls kiss because you have some ✨homophobia✨ to work through.
