Monaca hasn't left the pod room since Monokuma appeared in the simulation. She refuses to talk to anyone and only eats when Chiaki is the one to deliver the food. Otherwise, she spends her time hovering over Nagito's pod.

After months of being left to her own devices, Chiaki finally decided to do something and forced Monaca to get some proper rest, and dragged her over to the hotel. She resisted the entire way there, but once her back hit the bed she was out like a light.

She slept for a long time. The next day, she kept laying in bed, far too tired and sore from bending her back leaning over the pod for days on end. She still refused to talk to anyone, but she accepted food more easily and actually played on the 3DS Chiaki had given her.

Even though Monaca had been moved to her own cottage, the pod room was rarely empty. Hajime spent a considerable amount of time doing everything in his power to make Nagito wake up, barely sparing a minute for breaks or meals.

Hajime was the only one on the room when a hiss came from the only used pod still in the room. He rushed over and stood close by, prepared to greet the last of the group to wake. The hatch opened and Nagito slowly opened his eyes. His gaze was hazy for a few seconds, before recognition sparked and he focused entirely on Hajime.

"Hey, can you hear me?" Hajime wanted to make sure he was fully aware before saying anything else. "Ahh, Izuru Kamukura... No, you're... Hajime Hinata... right?" Nagito's voice was rough from misuse, but still held the same soft and breathy feel it always did. He raised his left hand up, silently asking Hajime for help getting up. Without hesitation, Hajime grabbed it and dragged Nagito up until he was sitting up. "They're both me."

"I suppose I should thank you for waking me up? I knew you'd make it to the lowest stratum- I believed in you." Nagito slowly looked up as he talked. "How are the others?" Seeing that he was the same as usual, Hajime smiled. "You're the last one out." At having the others well-being confirmed, Nagito smiled gently. "I'm glad."

"Ah, speaking off... I need to tell them you're awake. Monaca has been worried sick over you, you know. She's been hovering over your pod constantly, Nanami only managed to drag her out a few days ago." At the mention of Monaca, Nagito's face shifted to surprise. "...Monaca-san has been worried...? For... me?"

"Yeah. I'm sure she'll want to see you as soon as possible. I'll send a text to Nanami and she'll bring Monaca here, how does that sound? I doubt you want to be alone right now." Hajime had already brought out his phone and started typing as he spoke. "They'll be here soon."

Just as he finished speaking, the door was slammed open and Monaca wheeled herself over to Nagito as fast as she could. "...B-big Bro...? You're awake? Really, really awake? You... you..." Her voice wavered as tears gathered in her eyes. "You... big... MEANIE!!! You left Monaca all alone! You were supposed to be with Monaca all the time, but you didn't! You liar! Liar liar liar! Don't ever scare Monaca like that again! You're not allowed! Not allowed not allowed not allowed!!!!"

Monaca launched herself into Nagito's arms as she continued to cry out all her frustrations. From a short distance, Hajime and Chiaki stood and watched the tear-filled reunion, happy to finally have everyone back. "...It's a relief to have Komaeda-kun finally back. He was alseep for so long... I had almost began to lose hope." Hajime put his arm on her shoulder. "...Yeah, I get that. I knew he'd wake up eventually, though. It's Komaeda, you know? Things are never easy with this guy, but they tend to work out. One way or another."

Chiaki focused her attention back to Nagito and Monaca, noting that the crying had quieted down to small sobs. The little girl looked tired, but refused to fall asleep just yet. "...Hey hey, Komaeda-kun. We should probably get you moved into one of the cottages now. The pod can't be very comfortable, and we need to do a proper check-up, too."

"And we need to figure out what to do about the hand. You can't keep it, but removing it will be difficult. ...Souda and I will have to prepare a prosthetic replacement too." While Monaca kept her face buried in Nagito's stomach, the man in question turned his attention back to Hajime and Chiaki, smiling at them. "...I don't understand why you'd go so far from someone like me but... I... appreciate it."

"Don't talk like that. You're our friend too, of course we'd do all of this for you." Hajime had an expression that implied something beyond just 'friends', but maybe he was just too embarassed to say it.

Chiaki looked forward to the peaceful times to come.

Thomas Penn writes about 500 year old dead historical figures like they're celebrities in a gossip column

#it's funny to an extent but after a point it gets very grating #he has a wealth of information but he's far too sensationalistic and florid #and tends to choose the most unsympathetic and/or colorful interpretation of every situation and historical figure #he also has a habit of ... narrativizing history which doesn't really work for me #also his fatphobia re Edward IV was absolutely revolting #I was planning on ordering the Winter King but after looking at the synopsis and first 2 chapters that were available online - no thanks #I'm definitely not interested in reading about Henry VII supposedly being 'sinister' and 'Machiavellian' because he...ruled successfully?#because he did what kings (unfortunately) did all the time? How was he any different from the others?#also imagine calling *Henry VII* ruthless & unscrupulous when his predecessor murdered his own kid-nephews and his successor was Henry VIII #like please be serious #I had the same issue with the way he described Edward IV's reign. His descriptions were so theatrical and emphatic but #at the end of the day the things he was describing were very normal lol #or they would be normal if Penn didn't choose the most critical (and mocking tbh) perspective for every single thing #the way he described Henry VI's reign was also annoying but it thankfully had far less pagetime and was not the focus of his work #so it was comparatively more tolerable #i'm glad that he acknowledged the propaganda against Margaret tho. I didn't like how he described her but at the very least he acknowledged #that she was being slandered #also calling Warwick 'the regime's biggest headache' lmfao #and ig some of his analyses on Richard III were interesting. It helps that R3 had a very short and very dramatic reign from start to finish #so Penn's flourishing tone doesn't really feel out of place for it

Doing chapter illustrations for mdlhea has been such a rewarding experience bc i can really see just how far my art has come. Especially for pieces that have similar composition (the most recent chapter 28 art and the chapter 4 art come to mind immediately). Some chapters i get more inspired to make a crazy complex piece than others which are more quick thumbnails, but considering I started publishing right around the time i started using procreate for the first time its been a neat little timeline to see my progression.

#i have plans to go back and redraw some of the early chapters #namely 1 and 2 and maybe 10 since i always felt like i had bitten off more than i could chew with that one #and my vision never really came to fruition because of that #i also need to do ones for 6 and 19 which never got ones in the first place #but im getting ahead of myself #mdlhea #text

no one asked me about this recently but I figured I should say that modern au is probably not gonna be updated in a long time, as is shifting shadows.

for modern au, I think it's gotten to this point where it would just be really difficult for me to dive back in. I can give it a whirl maybe once I'm done with remnants of destruction, but just thinking about the story in a general sense makes me pretty sad. my brainspace has changed quite a lot in the past few months, and I think I'll find it very difficult to continue this story.

as for shifting shadows, I think where I left it off is that I had the rest of the fic outlined or something? I'd have to check my document. but honestly I regret starting that fic. I've since realized that writing sequels to fic is really difficult and I wish I hadn't completely undone drifting starlight's ending for the sake of "shock value". I can maybe talk about the upcoming spoilers for that fic since I'm pretty sure I won't be updating it but only if y'all are comfortable with me doing that. let me know.

(you'll notice this is why I was so insistent on not writing a sequel to kotf)

what I do have planned right now is finishing remnants of destruction. I have the rest of the fic outlined, but I'm already thinking of making some changes to said outline (I want to make sure I do the story + characters justice and it's not easy).

after that, I had some other vague ideas including a kenobi series AU or maybe even some fun time travel thing where there's multiple obi-wans at the same time. because what's more fun than one obi-wan? MULTIPLE obi-wans.

case in point:

TLDR writing is very slow and difficult but I'm trying! I would love love LOVE to write something like kotf again but that would probably (definitely) have to wait until after I'm done with grad school and I finish remnants of destruction.
