#i just want MORE tsc content basically
wikitpowers · 3 months
Note
If you could have a spinoff of any group of tsc characters, who would you choose? (I’d personally want more ragnor, Raphael, and Magnus content bc the few scenes we got do the three of them in the bane chronicles were so funny 😭😭)
I AGREE THOSE CHARACTERS TOGETHER WOULD BE AMAZING AND I NEED A SERIES WITH ALL OF THEM + CATARINA!!!
other than those three though, i would desperately wanna see a kit, ash and kieran because they would just have such a funny dynamic i'm sure of it and i wanna see them in faerie and just vibing (with their love interests ofc😌)
ALSO THE CIRCLE MEMBERS!!! a series that shows us how the circle was formed and the uprising and everything! would be so cool to see michael wayland (i love that man) and robert and their chaotic energy and what they're parabatai bond was like for them, and then how maryse shifted the dynamic and young jocelyn and luke would be so cool to see, their friendship and growing up together *sniffs*
and i'm so interested in stephen and amatis's love story (+ céline's role in the circle and what her relationship with stephen was like) like that would be so cool ahhhhh GET ME THIS SERIES CASSIE PLS

I really want to address some shit that’s been on my mind recently. (This could be applicable to all fandoms but I’ll be taking specifically about the aftg fandom)
I really don’t like how some of you talk to people regarding shipping. Like I get not liking a ship. I myself can’t stand Andrew and Neil being shipped with Kevin. i always pictured Neil and Kevin having like a sibling dynamic and maybe Andrew thinking Kevin’s hot but nothing ever comes from it. Now I know I don’t enjoy content that contains this ship. So what do I do, I IGNORE IT. Rather than harass people for enjoying something I’m not a fan of (like some people) I just don’t interact. It’s not hard to scroll past something if you don’t like it.
I’ve seen so much shit discrediting and shit talking people who just don’t share your opinion. Like with ReneexJean, bro from the text we have it’s basically canon. Why are some people (cough cough jerjean shippers cough cough) just dismissing it so hard. Like just say you would rather read about two male characters WHO HAVEN’T TALKED EVEN ONCE ON PAGE then the border line canon straight ship. (Ik ik but tsc hasn’t been released yet im only talking about what we currently have canon wise)
No hate to jerjean I’m just using it to make a point. But I could also bring up the stuff with Thea and Kevin. They are canonically together. If you don’t like it FUCKING IGNORE IT. You don’t have to shit talk Thea because you don’t want her with Kevin. You don’t have to harass people who ship her and kevin. You can just scroll past it.
Idk why people feel the need to make everything about them but Holly shit I’m so tired of people not understanding the concept of not being an asshole over fictional people.
Don’t even get me started on how some of yall talk about Nora. Like bitch. SHES THE GOD DAMB AUTHOR. She could write anything about her characters and it doesn’t matter how much you bitch or moan that shits canon. Ignore it if you hate it that much but don’t harass her or talk down to her for literally giving us more information about the characters we love.
Some of yall are just so entitled and it makes me want to rip my hair out.
Anyway :b here’s some silly Kevin art I did in class<3

Dependent Personality Disorder, Kevin Day, & the Edgar Allan Ravens
brought to you by an ex cult pastor w/ crippling mental issues
well let’s just jump right into it ngl (also if I miss anything or forget something give me a pass I have amnesia and a one track mind so I definitely missed stuff)
Okay so the whole Ravens always have a partner, never go anywhere alone, if one fails you both pay, etc. I’ve been thinking about this for weeks and I don’t see it broken down and discussed at length enough, so imma try to do that from a mixed personal experience & psychology perspective
The fact Jean, Neil and Kevin have all stated in books and in the extra content that not having that presence next to them was devastating (much less so for Neil okay he didn’t spend fucking years there); Nora has also talked about how Ravens are basically unable to function if left alone; you can’t send them to the store alone or leave them places or expect them to be capable of completing tasks without their other half; TSC reeks of Jean having to learn how to function without a double and it’s gonna be a trainwreck for Jeremy bc how the fuck can Jean be this old and not feel able to have a room on his own anyways—
What is Dependent Personality Disorder?
The DSM-5 refers to DPD as a pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of, which leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of separation. It is characterized by excessive fear and anxiety. DPD begins by early adulthood, is present in a variety of contexts, and is associated with inadequate functioning. Symptoms can include anything from extreme passivity, devastation, or helplessness when relationships end; avoidance of responsibilities; and severe submission.
According to the DSM-5, the disorder is indicated by at least five of the following factors:
has difficulty making everyday decisions without an excessive amount of advice and reassurance from others.
needs others to assume responsibility for most major areas of their life.
has difficulty expressing disagreement with others because of fear of loss of support or approval.
has difficulty initiating projects or doing things on their own (because of a lack of self-confidence in judgment or abilities rather than a lack of motivation or energy).
goes to excessive lengths to obtain nurturance and support from others, to the point of volunteering to do things that are unpleasant.
feels uncomfortable or helpless when alone because of exaggerated fears of being unable to care for themselves.
urgently seeks another relationship as a source of care and support when a close relationship ends.
is unrealistically preoccupied with fears of being left to take care of themselves.
Since I only need 5, and I don’t want to bore everyone to death, I’ll just do 5.
needs others to assume responsibility for most major areas of their life
Kevin spent well, basically his entire life having everything picked out for him by others. Exy was chosen for him. Where he lived, when he slept, what he ate and when was chosen. Riko and Tetsuji dictated his every fucking step up until he left. Kevin didn’t learn anything he wasn’t supposed to learn and therefore automatically expected others to do it for him because that’s what he was taught to do. Kevin’s only skill in life is Exy, which means he doesn’t have any other skills (well he does, he just doesn’t think they’re useful or important). Ravens are taught to be dependent on each other because without each other, they’re not whole or a person; they’re dehumanized until they begin to assign responsibility to someone they think is more equipped for it, is better for it, which is usually an authority figure (in this case, those figures are Riko and Tetsuji). Tetsuji knew exactly what he was doing by creating the psychological mindfuck of an inter-dependent group that is the Ravens. He took a bunch of young adults, gave them a god, and then helped that god beat them into numb dissociation until they couldn’t think for themselves and were even afraid to.
has difficulty expressing disagreement with others because of fear of loss of support or approval
Reminder that DPD is prevalent in people who have been excessively abused and it’s also characterized by extreme anxiety. For people like Kevin and the Ravens, expressing anything other than what Riko and Tetsuji wanted could get them killed; it wasn’t just about being terrified of disapproval or protection, it was because losing anything from the group meant you were gonna get hurt (usually badly). Jean was literally waterboarded for shits and giggles, you think Riko is gonna take someone saying no very well (Neil Josten drove him insane I can tell u that much)? Ravens have a hive mind mentality because a hive mind keeps them alive and safe. Kevin had a hive mind when he was with Riko, and I’d argue he still had the remnants of one when he was with the Foxes. Riko breaking his hand was the only thing that broke him out of it, and even then, it barely did. Kevin only started mouthing off to Riko when Neil (bless his scrungly ass) started shaking Riko’s brain like a maraca. He had someone he could depend on in those situations because, again, Ravens always do things together. Kevin wouldn’t fucking dream of shitting on Riko at Kathy’s show by himself. Kevin spent 10+ years at Evermore with his sanity hanging on the hook of a batshit adoptive brother whose approval or disapproval would dictate if he was allowed to sleep. So yeah, I’d say Kevin had a violent need to always express agreement and do everything Riko wanted whether he liked it or not because the anxiety and terror of not doing so outweighed any sense of self preservation he could have. That ties in w the next one.
goes to excessive lengths to obtain nurturance and support from others, to the point of volunteering to do things that are unpleasant
Riko utilized abuse in a lot of ways; Nora put in her extra content that he had other Ravens rape Jean; imo, those Ravens most likely didn’t fucking want to, but going to excessive lengths to stay within his approval and be safe? Yeah, they were gonna do it. Tetsuji and Riko also make the Ravens never miss practice or any other shit they want them to do, regardless of the state they’re in. Which means you’re going to practice when you’ve been raped the night before; it means you’re going to practice after getting butchered all night by your other half, etc. Anyways; when Kevin works with the Foxes, he repeatedly does the opposite and basically throws a fit if someone steps on court that isn’t in shape to. This begs the eye raiser that he didn’t want those things happening at Evermore, but he did them anyways because his need for approval and the anxiety of not doing so, outweighed the fact he hated doing it. He was so dependent on Riko and staying close that he was pretty willing to toss anyone and everyone under the bus to meet expectations even if they left a nauseating pit in his stomach. Doing unpleasant things for the person you’re attached to is hard, but their praise and approval after the actions erase all previous anxieties, which then fuels a broken cycle of seeking out that approval and continuing to engage in unpleasant actions out of fear of not recieving that pending approval afterwards. It’s hard to explain succinctly the mindfuck DPD causes your thoughts to be like when you have it.
urgently seeks another relationship as a source of care and support when a close relationship ends
Kevin lost Riko. You know what he gets next? Fucking Andrew. I don’t even know if I need to explain this one because Kevin’s dependency on Andrew is so prevalent and excruciatingly obvious throughout the whole series lmao. Kevin ain’t gonna admit it but he relies on Andrew like a starving man relies on garbage (no offense Andrew). Kevin’s duo dependency with Riko was shattered to its core and guess what idiot he latches onto to fill the void? Andrew ofc. I think out of everyone, Andrew is probably the healthiest until Neil comes along (still think it should’ve been a polycule but I digress).
Riko’s obsessiveness and possessiveness with Kevin was crippling to Kevin and left him without the ability to exist without a buffer. Andrew’s apathetic ass and explicit understanding of consent is needed to balance out Riko’s emotional instability and disregard for Kevin’s autonomy. I would go so far as to say it was dependency that forced Kevin to become more independent because Andrew wasn’t going to sit on his ass and wait for Kevin to figure it out or heal. Kevin only struggled into some form of functionality out of what I personally see as a crippling people pleasing need to be useful and that came from being dependent on those around him. He became semi functional (I use this so vaguely bc that man would not be functional in the real world) out of necessity and obligation to those around him, not because he actually healed or processed his shit.
Ignoring your own issues to meet expectations of the one(s) you’re dependent on is stereotypical avoidance and signs of people pleasing and also it’s a trauma response. Kevin quite literally just went “yeah well I have some problems but I’m going to push those aside bc nothing else matters besides Exy” and then proceeded for the entire series to use Exy, Neil, and Andrew as ways to try to avoid his trauma history. He’s kinda insane for that but also I get it, because placing your trauma lower than something else and then in turn obsessing over something or someone helps you compartmentalize and pseudo-function until you eventually snap and have a massive meltdown. Another thing is that when you’re living in an abusive environment you can’t afford those meltdowns. I like think that after all the shit happened in AFTG, Kevin just lost his shit for a period of time because it’s a very reasonable trauma response in victims for once you’re finally safe, you just shatter from all the pressure you’ve been avoiding in yourself. It’s only after you shatter that you can heal, and you can’t do that unless you’re in a space that you’re allowed to. And Tetsuji kept his Ravens in a headspace where they couldn’t.
feels uncomfortable or helpless when alone because of exaggerated fears of being unable to care for themselves
Ngl I’ve kinda already covered aspects of this but I just wanna reiterate what Nora said abt this specifically in her extra content that “Kevin is the one who warns Jeremy he (Jean) cannot go anywhere alone, “we Ravens don’t know how” and “Being able to go to class or the grocery store or the gym without any of his teammates in attendance is just—unfathomable” in regards to Jean Moreau’s transition into the Trojans. This is just kinda, explanatory. We’re talking about college age athletes who have been hazed and abused so much that the idea of going to a class alone isn’t even a concept to them; Kevin explicitly tells Jeremy that Ravens don’t know how to do things. They’re dependent on each other. Kevin is not only speaking to help Jean, but when he says “us Ravens” he’s including himself in that statement because he can’t either and he knows how hard it is to try to acclimate to suddenly being thrust into individuality when you haven’t had it in years. Unlike most of the Ravens, Kevin and Riko (and eventually Jean as well) grew up having that inter dependency made into a core personality trait. They hate each other and they love each other, their failures and wins depend on each other, one can’t breathe without the other suffering for it. At what point does trained and conditioned, and ultimately encouraged, dependent behavior turn into brainwashing and dehumanization until there’s nothing left of you but the one you’re dependent on?
Finally
I’m not saying Kevin Day or all of the Ravens have DPD; but what I am saying is that they have extreme traits at the least of it and it is entirely fucking reasonable to me that at least a few of them ended up with DPD or similar disorders because of the shit that happened to them in the Nest. People forget that trauma and adverse circumstances (especially from young ages like Kevin and Riko and Jean) can cause you to develop disorders or even mimic symptoms of disorders because those traumatic events caused reactions that are disordered behaviors. I feel if anything is to be nitpicked, it’s Kevin’s absolute bitchiness, because god he can be an asshole, and someone somewhere could argue because he has that antagonistic streak, DPD is entirely out of the question.
Unfortunately, the dichotomy exists of knowing when you can be bitchy and maintain submissiveness. Kevin probably learned where and when and to what extent he could tow that line when he lived in the Nest, whether it was taking out his anger and his anguish on other Ravens, on the court, or on the Foxes when he moved over. In my experience, my own explosive anger issues had to be portioned out, I had to know who I could do that to, be like that with. When and where was the correct time to lash out and when I was gonna get hit for it. Kevin isn’t stupid, he knew what Riko and Tetsuji were like. He also knew he had the upper hand in the power dynamic over the Raven’s on court. If he went for blood out of anger during practice, triggered by if Riko hurt him too much or took too much from him, other Ravens just had to take it, or worse, probably were encouraged to encourage the brutality.
All in all, I think Tetsuji created an absolute fucking labyrinth of a psychological warzone that both forced submission and rewarded dominance; it left lasting behavioral traits and triggered disorders that crippled Ravens, some for their entire lives. I wanna bet probably no former Raven went to therapy; the ones that got divvied up after the Nest closed probably were required to by their new teams, and they probably are the only generation that maybe were able to heal from it. In the extra content, Thea decided because Kevin could play again, “no harm no foul” on Riko’s end. If that’s not hivemind, culty, worshipper behavior, idk what is. That’s not a normal reaction, but it is a conditioned one.

Going through some things right now,
but seeing and making ColorGang content makes me happy so
I got more headcanons! xd So- like- A part 2 of this post? Probably lol
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed sharing it! <3
Tumblr media
╰┈➤ Whenever one of them is sad, they will immediately pull each other into a big group hug. Saying comforting words to the other. Watching some movies. Drawing and/or animating together, and etc. Just doing everything they know it makes the other happy!
﹌﹌﹌ They also won't pressure the other to tell them why they are sad. They just want to be there for each other in their darkest nights. ❤
﹌﹌﹌ They will hear each other out, and will do their best to be there, not only for the one who is sad, but also for each other.
╰┈➤ They are all really dramatic. Not in a bad way, but like- They can speak, but at the same time they are speaking they are also doing many movements and motions as they speak because they are dramatic like that lol
﹌﹌﹌ Alan can't hear them outside the computer, and since Orange is the only one who knows how to talk to Alan, the rest of the group just does many moviments and motions so Alan could understand what they are saying.
﹌﹌﹌ Alan doesn't understand a thing, so Orange often speaks for them, but at the same time Alan doesn't really mind and, instead, finds it adorable xd
╰┈➤ Green didn't taught only Orange how to sing - even though it didn't really work well xD - He taught the others how to sing, too!
﹌﹌﹌ Red is a quick learner, so it wasn't too difficult to teach him how to sing.
﹌﹌﹌ Blue was a lil' more difficult, but it wasn't that hard, either. - Green suspects Blue used potions to learn how to sing, though...
﹌﹌﹌ While with Yellow, surprisingly it was harder to teach him, but he got the hang of it eventually.
﹌﹌﹌ So- Basically; Orange is the only one who can't sing;')
╰┈➤ Yellow is the most intelligent of the five(5), but he also often uses only one(1) braincell when doing shenanigans with his friends...
﹌﹌﹌ He's such a genius when it comes to technology and redstone engineering, but when doing shenanigans with his friends... Oh boy.
╰┈➤ Blue and Yellow are the epítome of; Work Smarter, Not Harder.
﹌﹌﹌ In summary; They are all pretty smart, but they'll often lose braincells whenever doing shenanigans with each other. But can you really blame them? They are kids, after all. They just wanna have fun and fight and just be silly
╰┈➤ The group can often pays a lil' visit to Orange and Alan when they are animating. Either to just watch their father figure and best friend-sibling doing work, or to try to help them with their work.
﹌﹌﹌ They are like lil' kids watching their parents work lol (I do not mean this in a Alan x TSC way...... Plz don't take this the wrong way-)
╰┈➤ It might be a canon thing, or maybe not, but Green loves attention. Any kind of attention is good for him.
﹌﹌﹌ Talking good about him? Awesome! Talking bad about him? Awwn shucks, but cool. Just mentions him in only one single part of the conversation? He's instantly the happiest stick in the world.
﹌﹌﹌ For Green, just talking about him just proves how cool he is. Cool enough for people to even bother talking about him. (and he's so right omg i love him sm)
╰┈➤ Since it wasn't confirmed how tall they actually are, then for me; From Tallest to Shortest; Yellow, Blue, Green, Red & The Second Coming!
﹌﹌﹌ It's not that much of a difference, though. Like- Only a few inches of height difference.
﹌﹌﹌ They will playfully tease each other for their heights though. ;)
╰┈➤ Probably a canon thing, but; They can sometimes get carried away and ends up hurting each other, but they will always make up in the end.
╰┈➤ They have some trauma, not only from The Dark Lord fight, but also from when they fought King Orange and when they got betrayed twice by Purple. They can get a lil' paranoid about it sometimes.
╰┈➤ RYGB are all very forgiving, not just because they are kids and kids usually forgive pretty fast, but because they were unwillingly taught to forgive.
﹌﹌﹌ The StickMans were created to fight, and while it can hurt sometimes, especially when a player gets too carried away, they will always forgive and forget, because they did not have any other choice but to keep fighting.
﹌﹌﹌ If they know they were created to fight, and will keep fighting for the rest of their technology lifes, then what's the point of holding grudges because a Stick got too carried away?
﹌﹌﹌ Most of the time it wasn't even their fault, but the player's.
╰┈➤ Even after RYGB met TSC and finally got freedom from their site, they still can't help but to keep going doing what they were created to do. Old habits die hard, after all.
﹌﹌﹌ They do not dislike fighting, though. They still love having battles with each other, be competitive, and etc. It's kinda like a comforting nostalgic thing for them, to keep doing what they were initially created to do.
﹌﹌﹌ And because being competitive it's fun.
╰┈➤ For me, pronouns do not define gender. So like- I like to think that the ColorGang are all genderless, or atleast they identify as genderless, but they feel more comfortable with he/him/his and they/them pronouns? Gender is something really unimportant to them. xD
﹌﹌﹌ It wasn't important before, and It won't be important now.
﹌﹌﹌ They are, overall, neutral about She/Her pronouns, though. They don't mind it, but not really their preference.
Tumblr media
Weell- I think that's all the headcanons that I have about them so far. There will probably be more, though. But, for now, that's all! <3
Now.. I'll probably share my headcanons that I have so far about the RainbowGang(ColorGang + Purple) and HollowHead Bros someday! But, for now, that's it.
It's already 1 am from where I am now so- XD
Welp! I think that's it..? I might do a part 3, since my imagination is endless and I would love to do as many ColorGang content as possible, but, for now, that's it!
Cya u all in my next post! Goodbye ~ !

Ok, I want to start off by saying that I am a fan of all arts and am so appreciative of the time, passion, and work that goes into any kind of content creation.
I am also very particular about when it comes to art. There are mangas, comics, animated works that I have difficulty reading/watching or will not read/watch if I'm not a fan of the art style.
And as an artist I understand that art is subjective and not everyone likes it. Just as I recognize that not everyone likes my particular art style and that's ok. (Not trying to have people come for me like I’m trashing Charlie’s art cuz I am 10000% not.)
Charlie does amazing work and I like it, but it's clear that her style has changed (as most content creators do) since the TLH portraits she did and the pieces that are going in the journal for CC's new kickstarter. I'm a self- taught artist so terminology isn't my best, but her style now is giving semi cartoon realism, but airing on the side of the cartoon more now.
I feel that my unpopular opinion is that I'm not a huge fan of it. I really like the TLH portraits she did of Matthew, James, Christopher, Thomas, ect, but idk there is something about these new portraits in her style that I'm just not liking. Her lines are much sharper now, darker, more profound and it feels like all of the face shapes/ jaw lines are basically the same (and I know I have no room to talk since I draw in an anime style so one could argue all my lines look the same).
and I'm NOT saying that they are carbon copies. Jem clearly looks different from Will down to his eye shape which is amazing and looks great. But idk...maybe part of my disliking is also the inconsistencies? and I'm using that term lightly...but like
Clary's hair looking straight when it's very canonly curly. Alec and Magnus having basically the same haircut... (I’m not the best person to speak on Dru…but CJ’s flower card is different and feels more like how she’s described on the book). The lack of and absence of runes... and I know all of that can be personal preference/stylistic choice. After all, art is subjective and based off of the artist's interpretation (for the most part anyway) but I'm a stickler for details so it bugs me…
And I just liked the softness/ more realism style of the previous portraits Charlie has done for TSC than these newer ones. These new ones are nice and I do like them…just not as much…and there are some that I don’t like at all.
Thanks for reading my ramble 😂 I hope it made sense
Summary: I like Charlie’s work, but am not a huge fan of these new TSC portraits.
BESTIE I'M ABOUT TO CRY😭THE WAY I ASKED YOU MYSELF TO EXPRESS YOUR FEELING IN MY ASKBOX AND THEN FORGOT ABOUT IT
Tumblr media
Okay okay, SO! You're so brave for saying this, LIKE YES WE'RE BEING FED, thank you for the content for our dying fandom, but damn...
Allow me to also start with: WE LOVE YOU CHARLIE, WE JUST LOVE TO COMPLAIN🥺
I can understand Clary's hair, she could have styled them, I understand few runes on James, maybe Cassie didn't clarify that BUT WHAT ABOUT THESE😫the first one looks like a dream and the second one... I'm not sure, it feels like sth is wrong about it but I'm not an artist and I can't say what exactly is off
BUT SOMETHING IS OFF RIGHT?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One time she nails the character completely and the next time BOOM JUMPSCARE
Is it Cristina? Is it... who's it😳 it can't be Dru
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also I can't blame Charlie, I mean I also prefer her old style, but I'm mostly confused by Cassie. Like...you paid for the work and had a chance to correct the artist or clarify some details about the characters but...you saw this and went YEAH THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, NO, NO NEED TO FIX ANYTHING IT'S ALREADY PERFECT

Little Update (particularly for those waiting for me to respond to something, but also in general):
Hey everyone!
So I know I have a few asks in my asks box, and some @‘s and messages I need to respond to, and I promise I will get to them!
The asks are my top priority right now so I should get those responded to pretty soon.
I’m not having a super great time mentally or physically right now and unfortunately there’s not much I can do about either aspect.
Aside some physical health problems I’ve been getting hit pretty hard with some ramifications of trauma. In comparison my trauma and the relationship I was in was really not that bad, but unfortunately I really haven’t been able to shake it lately. I get the feeling the hyper vigilance is contributing heavily to my overall discombobulation.
I really enjoy tumblr (clearly I spend a lot of time on here) and interacting with people makes me incredibly happy.
While most people are very, very nice - and to be honest, I would say some of my best friends are on here - there have been a select few who haven’t been so kind.
I fully understand that those people are struggling more within themselves then with me, but it can be really discouraging to work hard on something in a space and be treated somewhat poorly. I know I am not perfect and understand how I may be annoying for people, but Tumblr is very much my safe space and I try very hard to be kind and helpful on here.
Additionally, while I do love the fandom space-I’m having some trouble RWBY in particular.
I’m very much not trying to start anything so I will spare everyone my thoughts, but in some ways I’ve fallen out of love with the show- and fallen more in love with Roman and Neo.
For years before the Roman and Neo fandom was wondrously rich with content. When I compare the canon and the fandom, for me at least, the fandom did a better job, and it still does. In 2016 there were fics that were so good I accepted them as canon. In 2024 some of those fics, and plus a few new ones are still the best.
That being said I adore the fandom I’ve curated on here surrounding Roman and Neo. I have mutuals, followers and friends who create phenomenal fan work, have excellent ideas, and bring me back to the show and characters that was, in the fandom sense, my first love.
I would very much like to be more active on that little Roman/Neo fandom I’ve found. It’s just that taking into consideration my complex relationship with the source material I’m not sure how to do that.
In terms of TSC those of you with astute gazes have probably noticed I post a lot of WIP snippets- and not many fics. That’s due in part to all the above reasons, but also just because I really care about the content. I care very, very deeply about these characters, and I pour a lot of work into my writing. I’ve always got the feeling that once I post something I can’t redo it- I post one fic with a premise and I can’t ever rewrite it again. Posting work that’s less than perfect when there’s already a very small audience looking at my fics almost doesn’t feel like an option for me. Trust me, I want to post more content- and very little makes me happier than talking with people about my beloved blorbos- it just involves a lot of energy and emotional.
Basically, I’m anxious, tired, lonely, scared, and so deeply invested in fictional characters it makes me screech in excitement whenever someone asks about them. So, dearest of comrades, please be patient- I promise I’m not ignoring anyone!
TLDR: Moving slowly on account of all the HorrorsTM, but I’m working on it.

Welcome!
Hello! This is my fanfiction recommendation blog. The fics in this blog were written by various authors from AO3, Quotev, and Tumblr. If you're looking for fics posted on Wattpad, please go to my Wattpad profile and check out my reading lists.
This blog isn't dedicated to any particular fandom, so don't be fooled by whatever my blog's current theme is. I post what I like. My main criterion to determine whether or not I post a fic here is whether or not I want to reread a fic someday. I'm a simple woman. (This blog is basically my library.)
Most of the fanfictions here are female reader or OC inserts. It's quite rare for me to post character/character fics because it's also rare for me to read character/character fics. Also, most, if not all, ships are straight. If they're supposed to be a gay ship, one of them is probably genderbent. Sorry. If that's not your cup of tea, you're free to click/tap away. Additionally, some fics may include dark content. If you don't know how to define that, maybe you shouldn't be looking at this blog. As always, you're free to leave if you don't like such fics.
Fandoms, characters and ships available (in alphabetical order, mostly):
[Note: To look for fics more efficiently, type the character/ship/fandom name in the search bar. Look for the name you used in the search bar in the tags of the results/posts. Click on the tag.
TLDR: Search by tags instead of just looking up the name using the search bar.]

Wanted to draw this but ended up tired today so ill just write it down and pray i dont forget it tmrw lol:
Sticks vs ffxiv
Keep in mind some charas may have multiple jobs!
TSC: I think they’d be a Warrior ! Its a bit of the poster job of xiv, and they have their giant hammer. Theres no hammer looking weapon in xiv but the warrior axe is close enough. (Plus inner release + equilibrium and all that). An omnicrafter who just likes to make stuff for their friends. Tl;dr: Warrior!
Red: Paladin! I really debated summoner for them, but I think seeing them in AvM 25 with a sword and shield convinced me. Plus their tendency to rush ahead + how tanking is about love (and a side of that “dont look at these other hoes look at me” post) just made me think this actually really fit them. They can still be summoner, but I think they’d also just be a minion collector haha. Tl;dr: Paladin and Summoner!
Yellow: I think they’ve started off as a Black Mage (cool explosive magic!! Planning out your positions!! Knowing the technicalities of the content!! Yay!) but eventually migrated to Scholar or Sage to be a better playmaker. Scholar definitely fits their personality and aesthetic > Astrologian (even tho that’d be cool). I kind of see Yellow as a more supportive playmaker, making opportunities for everyone else to do more y’know. Tl;dr: Scholar, Black Mage and Sage!
Blue: Machinist! I do think they started out as an archer but just ended up enjoying machinist more. I think they got to bard, saw all the crafting stuff and immediately focused on that. By the time they all had to do combat, they just picked the least complicated ranged DPS. I think they’d also be the other healer, I think white mage, closest thing to a druid in this game lol. They spend most of their time in the island sanctuary tho. Knows the second most about how free companies work compared to yellow. Tl;dr: Machinist, White Mage!
Green: Dancer! I think they started out as conjurer, basically swapped with blue and started playing bard until they could be a dancer. I debated red mage as their main job here, but i think dancer fits both the musicality that green would enjoy with the mobility that they display (iirc they use the fishing rod for mobility the most, even in combat). They do have bard tho, theyre a Limsa afk musician 😔 Tl;dr: Dancer, Red Mage and Bard!
In case it wasnt obvious i made everyone have a little to do with the 5 warriors of light in ARR (warrior, paladin, white mage, bard, black mage) ^^; but some of them dont rlly fit it.
Purple: Hello it is now later, and I think they’d be a Dragoon! The jumps kind of simulate what its like to be flying, no? I think they’d enjoy the story a lot and pays attention to the job quests. Probably has the most jobs unlocked just so they can listen in. Their favourite stories is probably Reaper and Ninja but they really only play Reaper and Dragoon. Tl;dr: Dragoon and Reaper!
King: probably didn’t initially want to play but ends up tagging along because purple wants to play. King isn’t very good at fighting a lot of the times it seems, especially at close range, so I don’t think they’d be a tank… I think they might be the actual Black Mage of this group lol. Though I can see them also picking up Astrologian so they can run around healing (read: queue popping) for Purple.
TCO: Samurai for sure lol. It lacks a lot of the like, actual powers or abilities TCO has, but all of their like. Coolness factor I think. Its also the stormblood poster job so I think it fits ahaha.
TDL: Monk! If almost purely bcs its the second poster job of stormblood. There’s also them beating TCO in a straight up brawl in AVA5 even if they were enhanced by some thing.
Victim: omnicrafter lol. Just like tsc/tsc is just like them

Notes: it's here. I only quoted what I found relevant to quote, but now I know everything there's to know about Stephen. My personal opinion is that the most interesting thing about him is his take on Robert, and as far as I'm concerned, him calling Robert a drama queen should be the biggest controversy around his character. I promise I did a far more objective work on this, though.
The Stephen Herondale Saga
(+ Amatis and Céline)
Objectively speaking, Stephen is a character significant since the very start because his existence is a key point in the plot of the first TSC era, CoB/CoA/CoG, and the last years/months of the Circle before the Uprising were specifically important. There are things in the Circle history that just can’t both be true because one contradicts the other, and to form a “canon timeline” we need to establish as “unchangeable” and among the most notable there are the birthday of the main characters, that keep being confirmed multiple times via social media and have importance in the TSC fandom lore. So the first thing I establish here is that Jace was born January 18, as informed via Clare’s instagram multiple times.
As directly stated by An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld, published in 2016, and also via basic math, the year was 1991. So gathering the information provided by this book:
Stephen- 1966 / Amatis- 1967 / Céline- 1971 / Jace- January 18, 1991
Now, let’s go for City of Bones (first published in 2007 but my main source is the 10th Anniversary edition from 2017). In chapter 11, Clary finds a photograph of the Circle. There are other details to be analyzed from this scene that don’t fit this topic, but the information pointed are
Jocelyn, Valentine, Hodge, Luke, Maryse, Robert and Michael are present.
It’s from the year the Circle was formed
See, it’s not said that they are the only people in the photo, but in my opinion it’s implied enough to be considered so until evidence of the contrary. (And of course, any information provided by Hodge can be retconned later because he could just be lying for whatever reason.) Stuff established, let’s go for the actual content on Stephen
City of Ashes
Published in 2008 - in this book we meet Imogen Herondale, inquisitor and Stephen’s mother, who is very opposed to any possible associates to Valentine and is portrayed as being bitter or something like this. Then we have Luke’s explanation on Stephen! From chapter 17
“Did the Inquisitor’s son die? Is that why she’s like this?” Luke sighed and thrust his hands into the pockets of his coat.
“How did you figure that out?”
“The way she reacts when someone says his name. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen her show any human feelings.”
Luke expelled a breath. He had pushed his glasses up and his eyes were squinted against the harsh wind off the river. “The Inquisitor is the way she is for many reasons. Stephen is only one of them.”
“It’s weird,” Jace said. “She doesn’t seem like someone who even likes kids.”
“Not other people’s,” said Luke. “It was different with her own. Stephen was her golden boy. In fact, he was everyone’s… everyone who knew him. He was one of those people who was good at everything, unfailingly nice without being boring, handsome without everyone hating him. Well, maybe we hated him a little.”
“He went to school with you?” Clary said. “And my mother— and Valentine? Is that how you knew him?”
“The Herondales were in charge of running the London Institute, and Stephen went to school there. I saw him more after we all graduated, when he moved back to Alicante. And there was a time when I saw him very often indeed.” Luke’s eyes had gone distant, the same blue-gray as the river. “After he was married.”
“So he was in the Circle?” Clary asked.
“Not then,” Luke said. “He joined the Circle after I—well, after what happened to me. Valentine needed a new second in command and he wanted Stephen. Imogen, who was utterly loyal to the Clave, was hysterical—she begged Stephen to reconsider—but he cut her off. Wouldn’t speak to her, or his father. He was absolutely in thrall to Valentine. Went everywhere trailing after him like a shadow.” Luke paused. “The thing is, Valentine didn’t think Stephen’s wife was suitable for him. Not for someone who was going to be second in command of the Circle. She had—undesirable family connections.” The pain in Luke’s voice surprised Clary. Had he cared that much about these people? “Valentine forced Stephen to divorce Amatis and remarry—his second wife was a very young girl, only eighteen years old, named Céline. She, too, was utterly under Valentine’s influence, did everything he told her to, no matter how bizarre. Then Stephen was killed in a Circle raid on a vampire nest. Céline killed herself when she found out. She was eight months pregnant at the time. And Stephen’s father died, too, of heartbreak. So that was Imogen’s whole family, all gone. They couldn’t even bury her daughterin-law and grandchild’s ashes in the Bone City, because Céline was a suicide. She was buried at a crossroads outside Alicante. Imogen survived, but—she turned to ice. When the Inquisitor was killed in the Uprising, Imogen was offered his job. She returned from London to Idris—but never, as far as I heard, spoke about Stephen again. But it does explain why she hates Valentine as much as she does.”
“Because my father poisons everything he touches?” Jace said bitterly.
“Because your father, for all his sins, still has a son, and she doesn’t. And because she blames him for Stephen’s death.”
“And she’s right,” said Jace. “It was his fault.”
“Not entirely,” said Luke. “He offered Stephen a choice, and Stephen chose. Whatever else his faults were, Valentine never blackmailed or threatened anyone into joining the Circle. He wanted only willing followers. The responsibility for Stephen’s choices rests with him.”
(Detail on Luke saying Imogen never spoke about Stephen again as far as he heard. How would he ever hear or know about that? Bruh) This is so all over the place, let’s go.
Stephen was Imogen’s golden boy
Stephen went to school… in London?
After all of them (the main Circle I supposed) graduated, Stephen moved to Alicante
Luke implies what we know that was that he saw Stephen more often when he was married to his sister Amatis
Only after Luke turned into werewolf, Stephen joined the Circle as Valentine’s 2nd in command
Stephen cut ties with his parents
For Stephen to become Valentine’s 2nd in command, Valentine made him divorce his first wife [Amatis] and marry a 18 years old Céline very loyal to him
Stephen died in a raid to a vampire nest, and 8 months pregnant Céline killed herself when she found out
Stephen’s father then died of “heartbreak”
Céline was buried at a crossroads outside Alicante
The then inquisitor was killed in the Uprising and the position as offered to and taken by Imogen
We will revisit this later for sure.
City of Glass
Published in 2009- We get Amatis’ side of the story! From chapter 5
“Luke never told me he had a sister.”
“No,” Amatis said. “He wouldn’t have. We weren’t—close.”
“Luke said your last name was Herondale,” Clary said. “But that’s the Inquisitor’s last name. Isn’t it?”
“It was,” said Amatis, and her face tightened as if the words pained her. “She was my mother-in-law.”
What was it Luke had told Clary about the Inquisitor? That she’d had a son, who’d married a woman with “undesirable family connections.” “You were married to Stephen Herondale?”
Amatis looked surprised. “You know his name?”
“I do—Luke told me—but I thought his wife died. I thought that’s why the Inquisitor was so—” Horrible, she wanted to say, but it seemed cruel to say it. “Bitter,” she said at last.
[...] “Yes, she did die. Killed herself. That was Céline—Stephen’s second wife. I was the first.”
“And you got divorced?”
“Something like that.”
[...] “So what happened?”
Amatis was gazing into the distance. “We were in the Circle, Stephen and I, along with everyone else. When Luke was—when what happened to Luke happened, Valentine needed a new lieutenant. He chose Stephen. And when he chose Stephen, he decided that perhaps it wouldn’t be fitting for the wife of his closest friend and adviser to be someone whose brother was…”
“A werewolf.”
“He used another word.” Amatis sounded bitter. “He convinced Stephen to annul our marriage and to find himself another wife, one that Valentine had picked for him. Céline was so young—so completely obedient.”
“That’s horrible.”
Amatis shook her head with a brittle laugh. “It was a long time ago. Stephen was kind, I suppose— he gave me this house and moved back into the Herondale manor with his parents and Céline. I never saw him again after that. I left the Circle, of course. They wouldn’t have wanted me anymore. The only one of them who still visited me was Jocelyn. She even told me when she went to see Luke….” She pushed her graying hair back behind her ears. “I heard what happened to Stephen in the Uprising once it was all over. And Céline—I’d hated her, but I felt sorry for her then. She cut her wrists, they say—blood everywhere—” She took a deep breath. “I saw Imogen later at Stephen’s funeral, when they put his body into the Herondale mausoleum. She didn’t even seem to recognize me. They made her the Inquisitor not long after that. The Clave felt there was no one else who would have hunted down the former members of the Circle more ruthlessly than she did—and they were right. If she could have washed away her memories of Stephen in their blood, she would have.”
Amatis and Luke weren’t close siblings
Amatis is established as Stephen’s first wife
Valentine convinced Stephen to divorce Amatis and have Céline as a more appropriate wife so he would he Valentine’s 2nd in command
Céline was young and obedient to Valentine
Stephen gave Amatis her house and moved with Céline to the Herondale manor, with his parents
Amatis left the Circle and only Jocelyn visited her
Here it looks as if Stephen died in the Uprising
Amatis hated Céline
Céline killed herself by cutting her own wrists, “blood everywhere”
Imogen became inquisitor shortly after Stephen’s funeral, due her dedication to hunt down the Circle to avenge Stephen’s death
Besides what “Uprising’ entails being kinda blurry here (since Stephen was established in CoA by Luke to have died in a raid to a vampire nest, not in the Uprising but before) - the match is strong enough so far.
Then by chapter 17 we have Jocelyn’s side of the story! And now we have a more specific timeline forming.
“[...] I had no idea what was going on outside, no idea that he’d forced Stephen to divorce Amatis and marry Céline. I was in a daze. And then…” Jocelyn knotted her hands together in her lap. They were shaking. “And then I had the baby."
Stephen divorcing Amatis and getting married with Céline happened after Luke became a werewolf and before Sebastian was born.
“[...] I would bring him over to Maryse Lightwood’s house, let him play with her baby son, Alec. Sometimes Céline Herondale would join us—she was pregnant by that time. ‘Your husband is so kind,’ she would tell me. ‘He is so concerned about Stephen and me. He gives me potions and mixtures for the health of the baby; they are wonderful.’”
After Sebastian was born (July 14, 1990, according to CIty of Bones 10th Anniversary edition) and Jocelyn found out Luke was alive as a werewolf, Céline was pregnant.
The continuity is ok so far!
“I wanted to tell her not to trust Valentine or to accept anything he gave her, but I couldn’t. Her husband was Valentine’s closest friend, and she would have betrayed me to him immediately.
Stephen was Valentine's closest friend at the time
“She killed herself,” said Clary, remembering the story. “But —was it because of what Valentine did to her?”
Jocelyn shook her head. “I honestly don’t think so. Stephen was killed in a raid, and she slit her wrists when she found out the news. She was eight months pregnant. She bled to death….”
Stephen was killed in a raid
8 months pregnant Céline killed herself cutting her wrists and there was a lot of blood
It was pretty easy to keep the info consistent so far, in this era, and with all sides put together (including Luke’s from CoB, not quoted directly for this topic) with the birthdays, we can put together the sequence of events. It was confirmed off-page that Céline’s suicide was made up by Valentine, and she was murdered by him and Hodge. We also have Stephen’s death and Céline’s death dated on Jace’s birthday or a day before if Jace was born after midnight, this possible difference is irrelevant though
Next, into next era,
City of Fallen Angels
Published in 2011- From Jace on chapter 3
Over the past six weeks he had taken to reading a letter or so every night, trying to get a sense for the man who was his biological father. A picture had begun to emerge slowly, of a thoughtful young man with hard-driving parents who had been drawn to Valentine and the Circle because they had seemed to offer him an opportunity to distinguish himself in the world. He had kept writing to Amatis even after their divorce, something she hadn’t mentioned before. In those letters, his disenchantment with Valentine and sickness at the Circle’s activities were clear, though he rarely, if ever, mentioned Jace’s mother, Céline. It made sense—Amatis wouldn’t have wanted to hear about her replacement—and yet Jace could not help hating his father a little for it. If he hadn’t cared about Jace’s mother, why marry her? If he’d hated the Circle so much, why hadn’t he left it? Valentine had been a madman, but at least he’d stood by his principles.
The quote pretty much speaks for itself on the info, but we now have answers for Jace’s questions... Sort of. We have this explanation from Clare and also we have Stephen’s letter to Jace available in a specific edition of CoLS, and I added a highlight and comments
To my son,
If you are reading this letter, then I am dead.
I expect to die, if not today, then soon. I expect that Valentine will kill me. For all his talk of loving me, for all his desire for a right-hand man, he knows that I have doubts. And he is a man who cannot abide doubt.
I do not know how you will be brought up. I do not know what they will tell you about me. I do not even know who will give you this letter. I entrust it to Amatis, but I cannot see what the future holds. All I know is that this is my chance to give you an accounting of a man you may well hate.
There are three things you must know about me. The first is that I have been a coward. Throughout my life I have made the wrong decisions, because they were easy, because they were self-serving, because I was afraid. [The fact that Clare later made Robert and Stephen be close friends haha]
At first I believed in Valentine’s cause. I turned from my family and to the Circle because I fancied myself better than Downworlders and the Clave and my suffocating parents. My anger against them was a tool Valentine bent to his will as he bent and changed so many of us. When he drove Lucian away I did not question it but gladly took his place for my own. When he demanded I leave Amatis, the woman I love, and marry Céline, a girl I did not know, I did as he asked, to my everlasting shame.
I cannot imagine what you might be thinking now, knowing that the girl I speak of was your mother. The second thing you must know is this: Do not blame Céline for any of this, whatever you do. It was not her fault, but mine. Your mother was an innocent from a family that brutalized her: she wanted only kindness, to feel safe and loved. And though my heart had been given already, I loved her, in my fashion, just as in my heart, I was faithful to Amatis. Non sum qualis eram bonae sub regno Cynarae. I wonder if you love Latin as I do, and poetry. I wonder who has taught you.
The third and hardest thing you must know is that I was prepared to hate you. The son of myself and the child-bride I barely knew, you seemed to be the culmination of all the wrong decisions I had made, all the small compromises that led to my dissolution. Yet as you grew inside my mind, as you grew in the world, a blameless innocent, I began to realize that I did not hate you. It is the nature of parents to see their own image in their children, and it was myself I hated, not you. [Now you’re sounding like Robert too much for my liking!]
For there is only one thing I want from you, my son – one thing from you, and of you. I want you to be a better man than I was. Let no one else tell you who you are or should be. Love where you wish to. Believe as you wish to. Take freedom as your right.
I don’t ask that you save the world, my boy, my child, the only child I will ever have. I ask only that you be happy.
Stephen
[I hate the similarities with Robert. Damn you Stephen you barely exist as a character, Robert did it better!] That highlight will be useful later
City of Lost Souls
Published in 2012- There’s a little memory of the Valentine/Jocelyn marriage in chapter 14
And then Amatis had come up, dragging a laughing Stephen with her, and Jocelyn had forgotten all about Luke, the way he had looked at her—and the odd way Valentine had looked at him.
Stephen and Amatis were together when Valentine and Jocelyn got married
Fits the continuity so far!
The Last Stand of the New York Institute
Published in 2013- Stephen’s first appearance! As a Circle member, with Luke!
Magnus could not help but look again toward the golden-
haired youth at the front of the group. There was something terribly familiar about him, as well as a suggestion of tenderness about his mouth, and hurt in the deep blue wells of his eyes. There was something that made Magnus look toward him as the one chance to get the Circle to turn from their purpose.
“What’s your name?” Magnus asked.
Those blue eyes narrowed. “Stephen Herondale.”
“I used to know the Herondales very well, once upon a time,” said Magnus, and he saw it was a mistake by the way Stephen Herondale flinched. The Shadowhunter knew something, had heard some dark whisper about his family tree, then, and was desperate to prove it was not true. Magnus did not know how desperate Stephen Herondale might be, and he had no wish to find out. Magnus went on, genially addressing them all: “I have always been a friend to Shadowhunters. I know many of your families, going back for hundreds of years.”
This was published shortly after Clockwork Princess, the association of the Herondale family with the warlock Tessa now known by the reader,
Fear of rumors about Stephen’s family’s connection with downworld being a possible motivator.
But Stephen's feelings over being from a partly downworlder family are never brought up again. He is only pointed/implied as a traitor of Tessa's/Herondale legacy. Which isn't surprising because in my impression it's very normal in TSC to make the main characters the center of the problems/conflicts of side and minor characters even when the connection is weak (as in "everything is about them") [I make everything about Robert anyway]
“Also,” Magnus went on, pointedly ignoring Lucian Graymark, “I find your story suspect. Valentine is ready to hunt down any Downworlder on any vague pretext. What had the vampires he killed in Harlem done to him?”
Stephen Herondale frowned, and glanced at Lucian, who looked troubled in turn, but said, “Valentine told me he went hunting some vampires who broke the Accords there.”
[...]
“Enough of this byplay with demonspawn!” said Stephen. He sounded as if he were quoting somebody, and Magnus bet that he knew who.
“Stephen, don’t—” Lucian ordered, but golden-haired Stephen had already flung a knife in the direction of one werewolf.
Conflict set up between Stephen and Luke?
Quoting his letter, “When he drove Lucian away I did not question it but gladly took his place for my own.” it definitely seems likely!
Now, well…
“Do you never have doubts about all this?” Magnus breathed.
“No,” Stephen panted. “I have lost too much—I have sacrificed too much to this great cause ever to turn my back on it now.”
As he spoke, he swung his knife up toward Magnus’s throat. Magnus turned the hilt hot in the young man’s hand until he dropped it.
Magnus suddenly did not care what Stephen had sacrificed, or about the pain in his blue eyes. He wanted Stephen gone from this earth.
[...]
Then Marian Whitelaw stepped into the light from the spell shimmering in Magnus’s palm, and Stephen’s face went blank with surprise.
“Ma’am, it’s you! We shouldn’t— We’re Shadowhunters. We shouldn’t be fighting over them. They are Downworlders,” Stephen hissed. “They will turn on you like the treacherous dogs they are. That’s their nature. They are not worth fighting for. What do you say?”
“I don’t have any proof these werewolves broke the Accords.”
“Valentine said,” began Stephen, but Magnus heard the uncertainty in his voice. Lucian Graymark might believe they only hunted Downworlders who had broken the Accords, but Stephen at least knew they were acting as vigilantes rather than Law-abiding Shadowhunters. Stephen had been doing it, just the same.
Um…. What.
What sacrifice?
What pain?
At this point, Luke is still the 2nd in command of the Circle. Let’s go back to my notes about Stephen as in City of Ashes:
Only after Luke turned into werewolf, Stephen joined the Circle as Valentine’s 2nd in command
Stephen cut ties with his parents
For Stephen to become Valentine’s 2nd in command, Valentine made him divorce his first wife [Amatis] and marry a 18 years old Céline very loyal to him
First thing, what Luke said about Stephen specifically joining the Circle only after the werewolf problem isn’t true anymore, because I’m seeing with my own eyes Stephen and Luke together in the Circle. We can just say Luke was lying for whatever reason, but it sounds very unreasonable because back in CoA Luke didn't want to reveal yet that Stephen was married to his sister, so he knowing Stephen through the Circle would be a far better cover than that, there was no reason at all for Stephen being established as having joined the Circle after Luke left just to have it changed later.
We also knew for a fact that Valentine forced him to divorce Amatis and marry Céline only after Luke left, and Stephen also stopped talking with his parents then. What did he sacrifice? Really, what? And why is there pain in his eyes? (does he have a secret parabatai in love with him)
Everything bad that can happen to a person has happened to me. — Paris Hilton Stephen Herondale
I could also talk about how since some contents ago, and I left to point out later, Imogen and Marcus were, apparently, very bad parents. We don’t know why exactly, what they did to be considered such, they just are, and murdering downworlders around was Stephen’s way of rebelling.
That was the data from the TMI era, and things stopped making sense already!
Before we go to TFTSA, let me quickly point something! Some years ago, there was a project about a graphic novel focused on the Circle. Cassandra Jean made some artwork about this project, and there’s this collection of Young Circle.
In the post Cassandra Jean credits Cassandra Clare for the dialogue. Stephen’s is:
“It’s hard to get away with anything when your mother’s the Inquisitor.”
Cassandra Clare wrote this. Okay. It’s just that she also wrote in City of Ashes and City of Glass that Imogen became inquisitor to avenge Stephen’s death, after the former inquisitor was killed in the Uprising. From City of Glass we even have that she took the position soon after his funeral. So, you know, it would be kind of hard for him to complain about his inquisitor mother.
Anyway.
Now, I will establish the school year at the Shadowhunter Academy: September to May, according to the timeline of Simon’s education in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, so during Robert’s flashback in The Evil We Love he is finishing his school year in May 1984.
The Evil We Love
Published in 2015- and the best thing published in the TSC according to me, and retconning all over the place!
When Robert is thinking about what he and Michael did on that same week of the year before, it’s said “That was a year ago, before Valentine.” So we can safely assume the Circle started after May 1983, but after that it’s the summer vacation, so it must have been from September 1983, since it started at the Academy.
There were eight of them today, the Circle’s innermost circle, all sitting in hushed silence as Valentine ranted about the Clave’s kindness to Downworlders: Jocelyn Fairchild, Maryse Trueblood, Lucian and Amatis Graymark, Hodge Starkweather, and, of course, Michael, Robert, and Stephen. Though Stephen Herondale was the most recent addition to the crowd—and the most recent addition to the Academy, arriving from the London Institute at the beginning of the year—he was also the most devoted to the cause, and to Valentine. He’d arrived at the Academy dressed like a mundane: studded leather jacket, tight acid-washed jeans, blond hair gelled into preposterous spikes like the mundane rock stars who postered his dorm room walls. Only a month later, Stephen had adopted not only Valentine’s simple, all-black aesthetic but also his mannerisms, so that the only major difference between them was Valentine’s shock of white-blond hair and Stephen’s blue eyes. By first frost, he’d sworn off all things mundane and destroyed his beloved Sex Pistols poster in a sacrificial bonfire.
“and, of course, Michael, Robert, and Stephen.” Why of course Stephen? I guess this is establishing him as Robert’s friend.
Jocelyn, Maryse, Luke, Amatis, Hodge, Michael, Robert and Stephen are established as the ones closest to Valentine.
Stephen arrived at the Academy from the London Institute at the beginning of the year. January 1984? It can’t logically be the beginning of the school year because then he would be with the Circle since the start, not being a recent addition
Stephen was the most devoted to Valentine and his cause
Stephen was into mundane pop culture, which seems like a extension of his “rebellion” against his parents
A month after arriving at the Academy, (February 1984? March 1984?) he was copying Valentine on everything
Then the time frame gets problematic because from what I looked up, it seems like “first frost” would implicate Stephen having joined the Academy indeed for the school year in September 1983, but that was about when the Circle started, so he would not be considered a “new” Circle member, he would have joined in the same time frame as the others
I can’t make any sense out of this!
At this point we can totally kiss goodbye to the “fact’ (from CoA) of Stephen joining the Circle only after Luke was gone, but there’s more. I have to get my highlight from City of Ashes now
“He went to school with you?” Clary said. “And my mother— and Valentine? Is that how you knew him?”
“The Herondales were in charge of running the London Institute, and Stephen went to school there. I saw him more after we all graduated, when he moved back to Alicante.
This is also false now! First, now we know the shadowhunter school is the Academy, in Idris, so no “he went to school there [London].” From Luke’s telling, we get the impression that Stephen never went to the Academy in Idris and that was how he only got to be around Stephen after everyone graduated and Stephen moved to Idris and married Amatis. (How would he have met Amatis then, I have no idea). We know none of this is true now because we are seeing Stephen at the Academy in 1984. With Luke.
By first frost, he’d sworn off all things mundane and destroyed his beloved Sex Pistols poster in a sacrificial bonfire.
so this is what Stephen sacrificed! Now I get it!
“Herondales do nothing halfway,” Stephen said whenever Robert teased him about it, but Robert suspected that something lay beneath the lighthearted tone. Something darker—something hungry. Valentine, he had noticed, had a knack for picking out disciples, homing in on those students with some kind of lack, some inner emptiness that Valentine could fill. Unlike the rest of their gang of misfits, Stephen was ostensibly whole: a handsome, graceful, supremely skilled Shadowhunter with a distinguished pedigree and the respect of everyone on campus. It made Robert wonder . . . what was it that only Valentine could see?
Robert always so perceptive! From what we know of him I have no idea of what could make Stephen a misfit besides having downworlder blood. We also know his parents are annoying? Have high expectations? Pressure him too much? Something like this. Seriously, I’m not saying it’s not hard having parents who pressure their child. The gravity of the problems that made the Circle members vulnerable to Valentine’s web seems to vary a lot from average life difficulties to parents whose parenting ways are illegal to say the least, which I find better than when authors create crews only made of people who survived the most atrocious things they can think of.
“Tutoring? Is that what they’re calling it these days?” Stephen teased. “Seems like she’s already aced her O levels in wrapping you around her little finger.”
Lucian blushed. “Nothing’s happening there, trust me,” he said, and it was presumably the truth. Céline, three years younger, with the fragile, delicately pretty features of a porcelain doll, had been trailing their group like a lost puppy. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that she’d fallen hard for Stephen, but he was a lost cause, pledged to Amatis for life. She’d picked Lucian as her consolation prize, but it was just as obvious that Lucian had no romantic interest in anyone but Jocelyn Fairchild. Obvious, that is, to everyone except Jocelyn.
Stephen seems to have some thoughts on Céline! Her heart would be so broken if she got to know he referred to her as “a girl I did not know” in his letter to their son.
I took notes on the issue about when the Circle started and when Stephen, Robert, Michael joined it and will leave it for another occasion or I will pull my hair out here.
The Wicked Ones
Published in 2018- Céline’s arc! Takes place in August, 1989.
Unless you counted the starring role he played in her daydreams, Céline hadn’t seen Stephen since he’d graduated the Academy four years before. Back then, he’d barely noticed her. He was too busy with his training, his girlfriend, his friends in the Circle to give much thought to the slip of a girl whose eyes tracked his every move. But now, Céline thought, her cheeks burning again, they were practically equals. Yes, she was 17, still a student, while he was 22, not just a full-fledged adult but Valentine Morgenstern’s most trusted lieutenant in the Circle—the elite group of young Shadowhunters sworn to reform the Clave and return it to its pure and ancient glory. But Céline was finally a member of the Circle too, handpicked by Valentine himself.
Stephen graduated four years before, that is 1985. [He graduated with Robert and Michael!]
Stephen barely noticed Céline back at the Academy
By August 1989, Céline was 17 and hadn’t graduated. She was born in 1971.That means her 18th birthday was later in 1989.
Stephen by August 1989 was 22. He was born in 1966. That means his 23th birthday was later in 1989.
Stephen was Valentine’s 2nd in command by August 1989
I am very bad at math but I think that means he was 18 when he graduated.
And it must have been true, because even though she still had one more year at the Academy, here she was, spending her summer vacation on an official mission with Stephen Herondale. Stephen was one of the greatest fighters of his generation, and now—owing to Lucian Graymark’s unfortunate werewolf situation—Valentine’s most trusted deputy.
Céline has one more year before graduating. That means she graduated at the Academy by May 1990
Stephen took Luke’s place after Luke turned werewolf
He’d also gotten married.
She tried not to think about that.
Notice how here Stephen already took Luke’s position and he is still married to Amatis, when in City of Ashes and City of Glass, it was implied that Stephen had to divorce Amatis and marry Céline in order to take the position.
“Me and Céline?” she heard Stephen say.
Feeling slightly ridiculous, Céline withdrew her stele and
drew a careful rune on the door.Their amplified voices came through loud and clear.
Stephen laughed. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“It sounded like a pretty good kiss...”
“I was under the influence!”
“Still. She’s pretty, don’t you think?”
There was an excruciating pause. “I don’t know, I never really thought about it.”
“You do realize that marriage doesn’t mean you’re never allowed to look at another woman, right?”
“It’s not that,” Stephen said. “It’s ...”
“The way she follows you around like a drooling puppy?”
“That doesn’t help,” Stephen acknowledged. “She’s just such a child. Like, no matter how old she gets, she’s always going to need someone else telling her what to do.”
[1. Robeeeert. 2. They are ones to speak! Oh my god guys, what are you even saying]
That’s a lot of opinion on a girl you “did not know’ Stephen! Just saying.
I really wanted to figure out the timeline of the Stephen/Céline relationship. We know from City of Glass that Céline died being 8 months pregnant with Jace… at the same day Stephen died or one after. I am very aware Céline’s death was a murder misguided as suicide, but she supposedly commited suicide after finding out Stephen was dead, so the date needed to match so Valentine could use that cover. That was either the same day or the day before Jace was “born” (removed from Céline’s body)
So, if she died in mid-late January 1991 being 8 months pregnant, that means she got pregnant in… May 1990? That means Stephen and Céline got married before she graduated at the Academy. That sounds weird, and kinda messy because it makes it harder to try to make guesses on marriage dates and how they overlap with the characters graduating. This will be for another post, too.
That's Stephen Herondale! Half of his story is debunked-denied/ retconned at some point! There are multiple factors I deliberately left off because I plan to write separate posts about, when relating with info about other Circle members.
I will leave to you the part of conjuring opinions. (Please? because damn) I honestly don't see why is anyone interested in his character with Robert being right there, and this is an actual objective opinion I developed while writing this and crossing their characterization. I've actually seen more people sympathetic for him than for Robert, which I find disturbing (why be a good character when your last name is enough)
Robeeeeert. Whaat. C’mooon.
I just love figuring this stuff out, and since we’re already in the deep end and love it here, I’ve made a timeline based on all the information you’ve provided here and added my own probing to it with sources also. 😉
Tumblr media
(Click for bigger picture)
So as we can see, there’s several inconsistencies to the timeline and not just ones resulting from retconning Stephen’s character but also because of what Jocelyn and Luke have both told about their past breaks the continuity more. For example, according to different writings Luke gets bitten and Changed both before and after Jocelyn gets pregnant with Jonathan. Their telling of the events are also riddled with inconsistencies which, I get, could be attributed to each character’s own memory and perspective. Yet they never were since the inconsistencies in the timeline aren’t addressed.
I’ll say the following in context of what I think about Clare’s writing biases and based on the information you’ve gathered here and my own researching: Stephen Herondale is a one big mess of a character. I’ve tried to gather my thoughts on his character, compromise between what I can see and how my interpretation of these observations might be skewed due to pre-existing attitudes I have for Clare’s writing. I’d really like to say that I think Stephen is multifaceted, that he truly wanders in the gray areas of being a bigot and a jerk but also having some genuinely good qualities also.
But here my own bias kicks in and I can’t. Not completely.
I’ve said before that Jocelyn in the narrative of The Mortal Instruments is practically stripped from her agency when it comes to Valentine, and though she married him, she couldn’t be held accountable for being in the Circle because of the excuses the narrative kept throwing around. I revisited the part in The Last Stand of the New York Institute where Jocelyn goes to beg Magnus’ help, and Tessa and Magnus both are very hard on her for her past in the Circle. Magnus at first refuses to help her.
But it feels contrived. You can see that Tessa is still one of the ultimate favorites of Clare. Everything Tessa says to Jocelyn is true, and I do think that, but simultaneously it’s agonizing how much the writing props Tessa up on Jocelyn’s expense because Jocelyn fits the part perfectly. Tessa is also so kind, merciful, just, mighty warrior, amazing with children, gains baby Clary’s trust easily, agrees to help Jocelyn etc. I also do get that it’s probably because I still dislike Tessa greatly. :’)
I have similar reluctance with Stephen’s character. Clare says Stephen was a jerk and a bigot, and Tessa is written acknowledging readily that Stephen would’ve killed her and denied any kinship with her. But I can’t ignore the inherent Herondale bias Clare sows into all of her work, which is the reason to my disinclination to give more credit to Stephen’s character and grayness. The writing rails against Stephen just enough that Clare can still maintain that she doesn’t defend him (and she ultimately doesn’t, I know), but at the same time her writing gives Stephen as a member of the Circle more slack than others.
The Last Stand of the New York Institute presents the other members of the Circle as they are, but Magnus doesn’t fail to admire Stephen Herondale, his good looks, his hesitancy, the PAIN IN HIS EEEEEYES. Clare said Stephen found himself in a situation he couldn’t back away from. Valentine would’ve found and killed him and his family if he had tried and so on. Stephen was basically stuck. He tells Magnus he can’t back away now that he’s sacrificed so much (which we learn is evidently his mundane clothes and Sex Pistols poster :’D).
Stephen’s letter to Jace is like another attempt at showing that even this Herondale, the bigot and jerk, is not rotten to the core. On the other hand, I am glad that none of the Circle members were mindlessly bad just because they loved Valentine. I think this partly comes down to the fact that I don’t trust Clare when it comes to Herondales. She has a soft spot for them and it shows time and time again.
Partly it comes down to how weak of a villain Valentine was. Everything Clare bases Stephens’s decisions on—killing innocent Downworlders (narrative exempts Luke for not knowing they hadn’t really broken any laws), continuing being Valentine’s lieutenant and member of the Circle and such—is ultimately the threat of Valentine’s revenge and punishment. Death.
Clare says Valentine is a master manipulator, yet spends three books in TMI telling all the things about Valentine and having no one challenge his half-baked ideas that fall down like a card house if poked at. Valentine is empty, poses no true threat, fails as a villain and thus fails me to see Stephen’s plight as credible. Clare presents things in her stories like THIS IS THE ONLY WAY and fails to justify them credibly. When questioned, cue the same old spiel about how dangerous and powerful Valentine is.
I don’t buy Valentine as an antagonist or a villain, so I don’t also by any influence he had on the members of the Circle. He does nothing to show how he manipulated them, everything is just told. And it sucks because I agree that the innermost Circle all had reasons that made them susceptible to Valentine’s manipulations. It’s the execution again that sucks.
Once again this is a cumulative issue for me, skewed by my own perspective no doubt. But Clare can’t write a credible villain that all of this heavily leans on or keep her timeline straight because suddenly Stephen needed more page time. She can’t keep her characters or story straight, evident especially how Céline is treated as character by others and Clare as the author. Her age? When? Who knows? Stephen at least doesn’t!
I did find it interesting that Robert and Stephen share similarities as persons. Their remorse, feelings of cowardice, and self-hatred projected towards their sons. Their feelings about the Circle, in the end, are similar too, though the ways they end up repenting are different.

hi i kinda wanna ramble a little about the AU me, @samthecookielord, and @pastel-player came up with so. yeah.
Long story short: Reverse/Swap Sticks! Will leave the rest of the ramble below in case this gets long
Basically, AU where the sticks act like the opposite of themselves. We haven’t really figured out much with characters like Purple, MT, Chosen, or Dark Lord yet, but we have a fair amount of ideas for the main five.
First up, Reverse Second Coming. Since OG!TSC is reminiscent of The Chosen One, our ideas for R!TSC stemmed from the idea of them being more reminiscent of The Dark Lord. OG!TSC cares a lot about their friends, and is pretty content with the life they have. So with R!TSC, they’re a lot more adventurous and don’t care much about the other four, mainly just seeing them as fun playthings. They’re always looking for new ways to wreak havoc and torment the others, always looking for new things to toy with. They’ve also definitely taken advantage of the fact that the others can respawn. Another idea @pastel-player had was “OG!TSC mostly uses what they find around them to fight threats, only accessing their powers when in real peril. Rev!TSC always has their powers, and only resorts to more direct combat when desperate“ So yeah. Rev!TSC is kind of a huge jerk that’s full-on taken over their computer, having total access to the computer’s UI, and their Alan doesn’t care enough to do anything about it. R!Red, R!Yellow, R!Green, and R!Blue mainly only stick around R!TSC out of fear.
R!Red is terrified of animals almost as much as they are of R!TSC. Despite their nervousness though, they’re often considered the meanest of the group aside from R!TSC, considering that they often do and say hurtful and rude things simply out of panic. Basically, they’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode. Their panic-rudeness actually leads them to being the one to attempt to stand up to R!TSC the most, and well.. that never goes well.
R!Blue isn’t that big on nature, having a strong preference for industrial machinery instead. They also have a big distaste towards Nether Wart, of course, and would probably be disgusted and horrified to learn that another version of them actually eats the stuff.
R!Yellow is the opposite of bright. They’re completely clueless about how redstone works, and would probably attempt to eat it or something if given any. They’re easily distracted and have never been able to actually finish a build before. They’re also very forgetful, and have gotten in trouble with R!TSC many times after forgetting having been commanded to do something.
R!Green lacks heavily in creative skill, never being able to get a build to look nice or a tune to sound good. They aren’t very confident in themselves. They’ve also kind of just accepted the idea that going against R!TSC would be pointless, so they just do their best to follow R!TSC’s demands. Their cynical and unconfident personality makes them kind of a downer, but at least they’re able to stay on R!TSC’s “good” side most of the time.
A lot of the thoughts we’ve had have been about the idea of them meeting the OG! crew. R!TSC decides to play a game of twisted hide and seek, in which whoever gets found last gets left alone while they torment the other 3. So the other four reverse peeps run off in different directions, not wanting to get found at all costs. Meanwhile, the OG! group ran into another portal incident. OG!Yellow was messing with a portal (maybe attempting to set up a sort of permanent link to their desktop so they wouldn’t keep getting lost in other worlds?), and things went wrong. They and the other 4 got sucked in and thrown out in different directions, soon encountering reversed versions of their friends while looking for their real ones. The pairs we’ve thought of are:
Second finds R!Red, Red finds R!Yellow, Blue finds R!Green, Yellow finds R!Blue, and Green finds R!Second.
Of course, there’s a lot of misunderstandings. R!Red freaks out upon seeing Second, terrified at being found first. Red, Blue, and Second are just immensely confused as to why their friends are acting so strange. Yellow and R!Blue are able to figure out that something’s off pretty quickly. Green ends up getting into a fight with R!Second though, considering that this ass is acting nothing like the Second Green knows and R!Second is pissed that Green of all people is daring to fight back. The rest isn’t quite as fleshed out yet, but I do have a bit of art and writing segments I’ll post soon!

                              [~*~]
Roman cleaned his hands on his jeans before stretching his back and sighing in relief when a small ‘pop’ came from it. The pal from the nearby library was a cool person – not that he would ever allow the other to hear this, because, damn, people who called Roman cocky definitely haven’t met them yet – but equally precise in get on his nerves with as few words as possible, even though the florist didn’t care that much as his dramatics discourses tried to convince everyone he did.
Besides that, they was Patton’s friend and even more important, they made an accord with the Flower Shop’s owner and Roman was the one in charge to deliver their biweekly floral arrangement to the library’s decór. However, today Roman managed to win their discussion and therefore a couple of podcast episodes read by them (What? Their voice was quite nice!!).
Roman ignored the small ring of the door’s bell as he entered the Flower Shop, looking around to be sure there was no clients before taking his position behind the balcony, internally thanking how chill Patton was with his employees using phone during the shift as long there wasn’t no one near, especially as he unlocked his screen and a new notification popped in front of him.
Butterflies went immediately crazy on his stomach.
[Message from Panic! At Everywhere]
[P: Hey. So, are you still ok?]
Virgil kicked his blanket out of his bed, already feeling a tad of giddiness spread across his body, a small smirk finding its way to his face without him even realizing. Today was the day. Since when he and Roman talked on the last week about boundaries to be sure nothing had changed and decided Saturday as a good day for their session the one with purple hair couldn’t help but let his thoughts wander, picturing and re-picturing what would happen, even though Roman always insisted to never tell him his plans, wanting to keep everything as a surprise, which definitely didn’t help at all the excitement running on his veins.
Their session.
Their tickle session. It was only eleven in the morning and Virgil could already feel his skin tingle just by imagine Roman’s fingers grazing, dancing on it, carefully looking for all his weak spots both knew so well before coming with an entire new technique that would make the other (almost, barely, hardly) want to jump out of his skin so he could escape from the maddening tickly sensation.
He was going to love it.
Also, it didn’t help that he spent the previous night and its following morning consuming all his favorite tickle content, dying on the spot (and on the reblogs) and skyrocketing his lee mood to the mountains.
Nevertheless, he tried to play nonchalant as answered the other’s new message.
[Message from Dumb(o)]
[D: Yes.]
[P: Cool.]
[D: You?]
[P: Yep.]
[D: Glad to know, Blushy Bug. Try to not alarm all of our neighborhood with your squeals and giggles before I get there, okay? ~
D: And yeah, plu-e-ase, continue with your so delightful tags on your reblogs, okay, Tickle me Emo? I’m learning so much new information with that. If only I would have an opportunity to use all of them today…]
Virgil snorted, one hand trying to hide his face as he attempted with all his might to ignore the flames taking over his cheeks as the teases sank and the memories from the day he conquered this nickname emerged from the deeps of his mind. So, Princey was already so over his head with being the ler this time? Thinking Virgil would be hiding his face on the pillow, squeaking and tittering helpless? Well, he would have a big storm coming, then.
Virgil got up, his footsteps leading him to the clean desk in the room, moving some of the objects so carefully chosen in order to get the perfect picture. Every single makeup brush lined, gleaming under the lens of his camera, away enough so the viewer would be able to realize all their individualities but close enough to create an impact.
Two can play this game.
[Panic! At Everywhere sent an image]
Roman clicked on it, eyes going immediately wide as he quickly slammed the cellphone’s screen on his red apron, his gaze running from a place to another to be sure no one was near or had seen the conversation or noticed the way his smile went from an ear to another.
[P: Nah. I’m too occupied choosing the perfect tools for today… I mean, there are just so many options, ya know? I especially prefer the smallest ones, their bristles softly running on my ribs, tracing their way across my tummy to get to the other side… yeah. That is the good stuff. Or maybe we could be experimenting the biggest ones today, letting them tease that spot right under my chin, the softness engulfing all the nerves… ]
Roman took a deep breath, realizing the other still typing.
[P: Anyway, don’t make a big deal of this, ‘kay? I know your imagination can be very fertile but try to not alert Patton with all your blush and twitching. You know he is a curious guy and will want to know why you’re so smiley. ;)]
“Pai amado, (Dear God) he is going to kill me.” Roman crossed his arms, using all his will to no start wiggling them to nothing, a sudden urge to sing some nursery rhymes making him begin to humming quietly as attempted to gather enough concentration to type a proper, cool reply.
[D: Is that so? So, the big, badass Virgil Storm is excited to get all his tickly-tickle-tickles today? Is he excited to become a so helpless, so adorable mess of giggles and squeaks? To be teased and tickled until he can do nothing but give me those lovely snorts and wiggly-wiggles? ~
Awww. So cute. ~]
[P: Yeah, I am. So what? Wanna do something about that, Sir Sing a Lot?
Ops, I forgot you’re at work rn. Tsc. Such a pity. Well, guess I will have to kill some time by looking at your precious collection of feathers, see if I find something interesting there.]
[D: You just wait for when I get home.]
[P: :)]
Virgil laid his phone at his side, hiding his face on the mattress, kicking just like he was some teenager in love from those generic movies. The squeals bubbled out from his lips, smiles blooming. He knew he probably was just digging his own grave, but, ha, as if he would fall without a fight. Plus, imagining Roman trying at every cost to keep a straight expression while reading his texts and then struggling to continue his work just as if nothing had happened, with that cute, excited smile planted on his face made a proud wave of power – and joy - hit him and that was a bonus which was worth it.
Then his phone vibrated, indicating a new notification and a new flood of shivers as he unlocked his screen, freezing for a couple of heartbeats with the length of the message.
[D: A poem for my dear Knightmare. ~
Once upon a time
There was a wiggley-wiggly lee
That just a few pokes
Made him giggle with glee
Some scribbles here
Some scratches there
You can tickle-tickle
He is ticklish everywhere!
What, you don’t believe me?
‘That much cute he can’t be!’
Well, then allow me to demonstrate
All the beautiful sounds he can create!
Give a few prodding on his ribs
And a quick digging on his hips
Some brushes on his toesies and feet
And don’t forget about these helpless pits!
(And hey, psst, if you squeeze his sides
The cutie, squeaky, wiggly lee,
Will be squealing in a happy delight)
This neck is also asking for tickly-kisses
He always denies, always desire
Add to that some teasy whispers
And watch his cheeks be set on fire!
Once upon a time
There was a bratty, smug lee
That just a few tickle teases
Can make him a blushy mess
Just like now, you see!]
[…]
“Have a nice day. Thank you for coming!”
Roman waved to the client who got out from the Flower Shop, taming the smugness which threatened to take over his features as he realized that even though an hour had passed, no answer to his last text had arrived yet. He was perfectly aware of how weak Virgil was for any sort of rhymed tease and a whole poem – not his best, he had to admit – dedicated to him? He could almost see the other shrieking, hiding his red face on the pillow, lost in a mess of quiet peals of laughter and curses. His smile got even bigger, swelled in pride. And, well, if he couldn’t help it but push his luck a few inches further, his fingers already halfway to typing a small, itsy bitsy, new tease to his favorite emo lee, how could someone really blame him?
[D: Oh, sorry. Did I make the scary Virgil too much flustered to talk? Awww, I will miss your sassy remarks deeply and sing a ballad in your honor at the funeral. ~]
He snorted at the amount of time the symbol of ‘typing’ appeared and disappeared on the conversation, using the ten minutes he took to be answered to organize a few sales signs on the glass in front of the store, gaining a dance on his step as the one-worded sentence shone on his phone.
[P: Bitch.]
[D: I have no idea of what you’re talking about. Is that something I said? I feel wounded.]
But a new thing popped up.
[Panic! At Everywhere sent a video]
[P: :)]
It seemed like hours passed, even if he knew the downloading probably didn’t really take more than a few pieces of minute for him to hit the play.
The focus of the camera took a few seconds to adjust, the image trembling and shaking before going still, the crystal clear form of a small light brown, slightly spiked feather twirling between Virgil’s index and thumb locking his eyes on the screen. A quick, quiet sigh could be heard before the tickle tool descended to the palm extended on a desk, stopping by Virgil’s pulse.
The bristles grazed the skin there as the feather began to move on slow strokes, going from the left to the right, left and right, left and right… calmly making its way up, changing to small swirls as it contorted the form of the hand, giving to each finger a light tracing before concentrating on the palm, drawing a spiral which approximated inch by inch to the center. If Roman wasn’t so quiet, - even holding his breath, - maybe he wouldn’t be able to listen the incredibly low, contained huffs of laughter on the background, a soft snort escaping and making both hands tremble as the bristles hit the center of his hand, dancing around the spot for a bit.
When it stopped, the tool was placed on the desk and then the camera started to move, stopping on Roman’s so very well-known golden with silver details box. Its lid laid next to it, letting its entire content to be proudly shown. The explosion of colors from the most diverse large, small, pointy, fluffy feathers took over the frame, however, a tiny piece of paper placed on the exact center of them was what captured his attention. The lens zoomed and focused, making him able to read the quick message written there.
“:)”
And then the screen went black. The video was over.
Roman could feel his face being almost split in half by his grin, his fingers hitting the table top in complete frenzy since they hadn’t to hold the device anymore, curling and uncurling as the one who couldn’t just stay still started to bounce his right leg, ignoring the redness he felt crippling down his neck.
“Roman?”
He fully shrieked. Both him and Patton startled and jumped a few centimeters in the air with the sudden sound. The florist slapping his own hand on his mouth, trying with all his inner strength to stop the bubbly giggles which flooded non stop from his lips
“Sorry for the scare, kiddo,” the shine on his eyes free of any guilt as Patton bit his own knuckles proved the contrary, especially when the rest of an awed squeal escaped from his lips, only making the other to giggle harder, eyes closed, blush deepening and nose scrunched. “Aww, your giggles are so cute!”
“Shuhuhush!!” The Flower Shop owner just smiled fondly, withholding his comments and patiently waiting for the other to recompose himself. When Roman looked at least a tad calmer he decided to make his decision to talk to him clear.
“I’m glad you’re in a good mood, Ro! I just wanted to remember today’s shift is already over. I need a bit of time to organize everything before the painter comes so we can discuss the new design of the Flower Shop. Thank you so much for the ideas, by the way! I can’t wait for you all to see the result! It will be so pretty!!” Roman’s wide eyes were enough of an explanation of why he wasn’t ready to go yet, probably having forgotten about their last month conversation. Although, the surprised look was away in an instant, a shine taking over his glare before he softened, locking his eyes with Patton.
“Of course, it will be, Patty-cake! With my magnificent ideas and your good taste, I really don’t think any other result besides wonderful and perfection will be possible!” He squeezed Patton’s cheeks and his friend stuck out his tongue at him, winning a quick poke on his ribs that made him squirms and yelp, quickly tittering and waving the other with his hands.
“Now shoo-shoo, go enjoy your afternoon!”
A devious smirk gleamed on Roman’s expression for a second. “You can count on it, Padre.” But then it was gone as quickly as it appeared. “Thank you, my mighty hero in a shiny armor! May the universe let our destiny align again in the future.”
“See ya, kiddo!” He replied, his tune also full of joy, watching the one with red hair going away, a happy bounce on his steps.
[…]
Virgil picked the phone in the first ring. “Roman, something happened?”
“Nope,” the purple lover sighed in relief, all the tension getting out of his body and being replaced by confusion, “nothing happened except that a handsome, incredible someone got out from his work earlier than expected and might be heading his home by now.”
That made Virgil shot up, biting his lower lip, butterflies freaking out. “No.” It was his whisper.
“Oh, yes. ~” Roman practically purred on the speaker. “any last words, my dear, defenseless Giggly Storm?”
Virgil just giggled and Roman had almost forgotten how that sound only was enough to spread an explosion of a warm, good feeling on his chest. “Aw, and here I was thinking I would have at least some challenge today. ~” He continued to tease.
Silence.
“Go check your messages, Princeypie.”
And then he hung up. Roman fondly rolled his eyes, running to check the new notification on their conversation.
[Panic! At Everywhere sent a photo]
It was Virgil, sitting on his bed criss crossed, one elbow resting on his thigh as he took the picture on the body mirror on the other side of the room, a strong blush very visible on his face half hidden by the device, wearing a short and Roman’s red crop top. A new message popped right under the photo.
[P: Get your butt here and tickle me, Sir Sing a Lot.’]
This emo was going to be the death of him.
[D: Aww, I don’t even get a smile?]
[P: You gotta work for those, Princey.]
Virgil definitely did not jump nor yelp as he heard the low, dangerous tune of an “evil” laughter echoes in the house coming from the living room, the sound of the front door being closed making his flight instincts kick in.
“Oh, don’t worry.” Virgil was already halfway to the most far away room where he could escape, trying to keep his reputation as he heard another set of footsteps quickly getting ground and following right behind him. Laughter and squeaks mixed in the air.
“Because I will.” Roman answered.

Tone policing, respectability politics and listening to marginalized people.
So I was watching a video made by YouTuber Kat Blaque where she was talking about how people view white people's opinions on racism are valued over POC and how sometimes white people need to hear another white person say something is racist before they listen. She was saying how hurtful it was that in some cases, her or another POC just saying that something is racist isn't enough.
It's a very good video and I recomend you watch it but I immediately related what she was saying to my experiences with ableism, especially in the tsc fandom. In many situations, me just saying that something was ableist or offensive wasn't enough for people. And most people even took it as a personal insult.
I have recieved paragraphs upon paragraphs from people I called out explaining how they arent ableist and they don't hate autistic people and I hurt their poor feelings!!! Instead of actual accountability. I've only gotten two apologies from people who have said shitty things about Ty or about autistic people in general.
Two.
Out of literally tons.
Many times people will criticize me for the way I phrase things. For being too harsh and aggressive. Too blunt. Let's play a game autistics who follow me. Raise your hand if you have ever been called the following.
- difficult
- unreasonable
-aggressive
- insufferable
- too harsh
- bitchy
- abrasive
- disruptive
- annoying
- too much
These are all just coded words for autistic. You might not even consciously realize that you are naturally equating the two things, but I can guarantee based on my experiences that you are doing it. Autistic people constantly come under fire for being too harsh because simply put, we won't let you emotionally abuse us anymore.
I've seen it happen so many times with my favourite autistic creators. Autistic people are taught to suppress our emotions and twist them into something more socially acceptable basically from birth. Especially autistic girls or those who were assigned female at birth. And this goes double for autistic POC from what I've seen.
Autistics are taught that our feelings are wrong, and that gaslighting from such a young age negatively impacts us in such a major way. It's one of the reasons why I fight to make people in the tsc fandom consider and value Ty's emotions and Ty's perspective.
When you paint me as an overtly emotional fan who is making a big deal out of nothing, I want to tell you about the time I read a kitty fanfic where Kit called Ty the r-word out of anger. I want to make every allistic person feel the pain I felt in that moment. The way I stopped breathing. And yeah maybe I take a peice of my 21 years of trauma into every confrontation I have on this app, but I believe I have been reasonable. Some of you just aren't listening.
I've noticed over time that many people I have issues with have extremely positive interactions with Lauryn @ti-bae-rius and her blog. They talk about how much they love her content and I'm left to wonder if it's because she's nice and polite and usually doesn't make waves. This isn't me criticizing Lauryn. At all. But I have an issue with the fact that these people can only respect autistic people when we behave ourselves.
I once was accused of "just wanting to start fights" as if I don't have an exam to study for, a paper to research and write, other school work to do, as well as youtube videos to make, and an actual life to live. I don't enjoy this anymore then you do. It's extremely painful but it is neccesary. Because I refuse to let people get away with their casual ableism, and I refuse to accept the fact that I've gotten used to holding my breath.
If you're still with me at this point then thank you, really. I appreciate all of the people who give me amazing feedback and tell me how much the respect me. I appreciate the allies who constantly want to learn and do better. I once said to my stepdad after ranting about fandom bullshit for two hours, "I'm not doing this for me. I'm dead inside. I'm too far gone at this point. I'm doing this for future generations of autistic children. So they don't have to grow up the way I did."
I'm not a Tiberius Nero Blackthorn type. I'm not hopeful or optimistic. But I know some of you are and I admire you so much for that. He would adore you. I know he would.
Hopefully we can all work towards a better future. One where I can stop holding my breath.
Fae 💜
Tldr: Some people refuse to listen to autistic people when we aren't being "calm" or "nice" enough for you. Tone policing is harmful. Listen to autistic people. I shouldn't need to be nice when talking about discrimination or calling someone out for ableism. I'm terrible at summarizing things lol.

Hi everyone, I know my blog is usually very lighthearted but there’s an issue I’ve seen cropping up a lot (especially in the TSC fandom) and I just want to discuss it. This is obviously not directed at anyone, it’s a general awareness post for everyone.
Basically I’ve noticed that people ask to be in creators (of all type)’s tag lists and then when the post is posted, the person tagged likes it and then moves on. It’s so demotivating! Especially when someone has asked and asked and somehow continued asking about a fic or edit and then they don’t reblog it. This also happens generally, people see creators work and just like it. They may also leave a loving comment, but it doesn’t really feel the same to a content creator. It’s obviously appreciated but, why not reblog it and write your comment in the tags? That way you can spread it too. It’s that easy. This may sound like not too big of an issue but it is, TRUST ME. As a creator of sorts, I know it’s a problem. The reason it’s a problem is that it’s so discouraging to the creators. It feels like people don’t like it enough to have it on their blog. Overall it just causes creators to, after a while, stop making things.
This isn’t Instagram y’all. There’s a reblog button for a reason. The like button, in all honesty, is just a note adder. The reblog button is the important button. That spreads work and means that all your followers can see it. Liking helps no one. Eg. when I see people reblogging my work rather than liking it, I get more excited. Obviously all support is appreciated but reblogging sometimes just helps a creators peace of mind. It means people see it and actively want to show others. It boosts creators confidence so much! More than you can imagine.
It really does hurt when you look at, for example, a meme or shitpost (I think that’s the name given to them? - if not sorry) and it has for example 500 reblogs or 900 reblogs but then the edit or fic that you spent FOREVER making for others to see, gets maybe 100-200 reblogs. It’s obviously different for everyone and all support is really appreciated but it just stings a bit to see your hardwork not getting spread. It’s demotivating and honestly, it’s the reason some content creators just stop making content or delete all their content. Many creators are discouraged in the TSC fandom for that reason and the other, above, reasons.
It’s as if people make Tumblr blogs only to like things and then leave. What’s the pain in reblogging someone’s hard work? Obviously if there’s something triggering to you, please don’t feel obliged to reblog it. It doesn’t make you a bad person because you didn’t reblog it. But if it’s an edit or fic that you LOVED, then why not reblog it? Why not leave some love in the tags? Feedback is an amazing motivator for content creators. It helps SO MUCH! You feel like ah, people did, in fact, enjoy what I made. Then you feel motivated to make more! That’s a plus for content creators - they’re making more content and feeling motivated and appreciated, and for the people seeing content - yay you get more content!
Thank you for listening and if you actually read the whole post (thank you for that), please give it some thought. It’s not meant to target anyone in particular but even if you think ‘Yeah! I reblog loads!’, just give it a thought. If it turns out maybe you don’t reblog much then.... maybe you could start reblogging?
All it takes is one click of a button. It can really lift someone’s day, trust me.

Hi! I'm sorry for bothering you but you're the only one I know here who reads CC's books and I feel like you know a lot about them. I really want to read some of them, but I'm not really interested in, like, main plot you know? I've read two first books of Mortal Instruments and wasn't a big fan of it. Okay, what I mean is that I want to read all of the books dedicated to malec's (and later max and rafe's) story. Could you help me and tell me which books to read and in which order? Once again sorry if that's a problem
Hello!
Not a bother at all. In fact, I get this question often.
I made a post about all the tsc books and how much Magnus/Alec/malec content is in each one. I hope it’s helpful.
You should ideally read “The Eldest Curses”. It’s a trilogy that exclusively focuses on Magnus and Alec (feeling blessed!!!)
Two books have already been released. The first one is “The Red Scrolls of Magic” - this is basically about a malec vacation in Europe. It happens right after when valentine dies. So you don’t beed a lot of context to read it. Some *cough* me *cough* even say that this is the best tsc book ever written.
The second book is The Lost Book of the White - which picks after Alec and Magnus adopt their son Max (if you want to read about how that happened, you gotta read Born to Endless Night - which is a short story). This story takes place a couple of years after Sebastian died. There are some things that might be confusing (like who is George???) and how did Simon become a shadowhunter. But you can figure it out. If you read the red scrolls of magic, then this should be okay.
The final book is The Black Volume of the Dead. We don’t know when it’s gonna be released - but it will focus on the Lightwood Bane family (including the kids jsdhfksd). you might need some background info for this (like ALEC IS CONSUL NOW) and stuff like that. But I think it shouldn't be too hard.
In essence, if you want tsc Malec content, just read The Eldest Curses. You can find more about the trilogy here.

Your love for Clace sustains me. They've been so underappreciated in recent years. Like, cmon fam, love and respect the OGs
Awwww thank you dear
And I agree, I understand not liking a character or Ship, but I never understand spending your time making hate posts And writing hate fics, I mean I get coping with it but why not just talk with someone in private about it, it doesn't need to be public, and they treat some like we don't acknowledge the problematic shit when I do, I just don't feel the need to make a post about it, and all the characters have done problematic stuff and have been assholes at some point so I don't understand why Clace gets all the hate,.
And I would rather be known for the love and positivity I spread then the hate and negativity cause I feel real life already has enough of it and some come to tumblr to escape it and I feel tumblr is becoming unsupportive for some, I have had Clace haters assume and say many things about me and Idk why just because someone likes a character or ship that it automatically makes them straight or in some cases a monster, I love a mlf ship doesn't mean I am straight. And if you don't like a character again that's fine but why are you spending time making content about the ones you hate instead 9f the ones you love? And like I feel like the word hate is used to much, I mean I don't really hate anyone (except Valentine), I have people and characters I don't vibe with but I don't hate them, we have become so comfortable when saying we hate someone or something that it has lost it's meaning and has become something I don't really like, words have a lot of power, don't Like and Hate are very different in their ways and I feel they are miss used a lot, when they say they hate Jace/Clary or hate this part of their personality I don't think they always realize that they are basically saying real life people with these personalities should be hated and put down, I know I have taken a lot of it personally because I relate to them on such a level I feel like I am reading a book about me, and I think we need to remember that a lot of the time people relate to these characters, and when some of the fandom erases Jace's and Clary's struggles it makes me feel like mine have been erased, I had a similar childhood to Jace and Alastair so it hurts when people erase the trauma and just hate them. And certain words are a trigger, you never know which and the word hate triggers me as well as conflict.
And besides Clary and Jace aren't that bad some just blow it out of proportion and take things out if context and make things up, honestly it's really tiring at this point, cause some of the things I have seen said neither of them have actually ever done, and Jace isn't that big of an asshole, trust me I know assholes and i can say Jace is a sweety pie compared to them, and I always saw it more as defensive then asshole, I am like that, I get called an asshole but it's a defensive thing cause people have crossed boundaries too many times.
I also think it's okay to acknowledge that this character (s) did something bad and still love them to the moon and back, cause real life people who are good and have good hearts do it, I am not perfect nor are these characters and that's what humans are, I always saw some of tsc characters being so human and real like and it's why I relate to and love to them so much
And I want to make sure others who like them and maybe feel unsafe to say out of fear of being attacked have a safe space to got to, and I hope my blog can be that. And this became long and I hope it's not to much I just wanted to say that I feel the same and sometimes if you look deeper into the characters you'll find they are just scared and hurt and need someone to say you are acting like an ass (not you are an ass) and I know your hurting but there are other ways, and you need to sit down and have talks, not scream and fight, I grew up in a family that screamed and fought all the time and we never solved anything just pushed each other away so I think we need to sit down and have respectful and calm conversations not fighting.

Representation in Media and How It Can Be Harmful (Basically Why It’s Important to Acknowledge the Faults in Media, Specifically When Dealing With Minority Groups)
Note: The following essay is not meant to harm anyone, and if it does, please inform me, so I can edit it immediately. I only want to inform you why people are pointing out these issues in representation, and help you understand why. If you still don’t understand after reading this, feel free to message me, I’ll be happy to help.
I’ve seen a bunch posts criticizing posts pointing out flaws in the representation of POC in TSC and YA in general, and I know none of you probably care about my opinion, but I just want to ask you to be mindful. I’m not going to argue for or against this topic, if you want to know my opinion on the matter, feel free to look under the ‘ash ranting time’ tag. What I am going to do, is address those who are ignoring or refusing to understand where these posters are coming from.
To be clear here, I am not against Cassie Clare as a writer, and love her books as much as the rest of you, but it’s extremely disheartening to see people bash or counteract someone’s claim that her writing has flaws as well. By someone, it usually tends to be a POC, so please keep that in mind for the remaining of this essay. What these posters are generally pointing out are flaws and stereotypes in characters of color, flaws and stereotypes that are extremely harmful, toward the culture the character represents.
Now you might be wondering at this point, how is this representation harmful? First I’d like to preface this by saying use of stereotypes in representation cannot be completely avoided. There will always be stereotypes that are accidental, and those are not the ones I’m speaking of. Flawed and well rounded characters always have the potential to fall into some stereotypes, and that is okay, but there is a moment in writing where the sheer amount of stereotypes on a POC gets difficult to ignore, a point where it cannot be ignored any longer without harming the community as a whole. And how is this harmful? By using many stereotypes in writing, specifically in minority groups, you can unintentionally strengthen prejudices and judgements against and towards entire cultures, all because of a phenomenon called the Availability Heuristic.
Per the American Psychology Association, the definition of the availability heuristic is, “a common strategy for making judgments about likelihood of occurrence in which the individual bases such judgments on the salience of the information held in his or her memory about the particular type of event: The more available and relevant information there is, the more likely the event is judged to be.” In laymen’s terms, this roughly translated to your brain using the information most available to them to make quick judgments, or swapping out the best solution for one that is the most available.
Why is this important for POC rep? By constantly using the same stereotypes to represent a specific group of people, thereby making it more available, authors are further reinforcing that a certain minority is a specific way, leading to strengthening prejudices against them. It is a very dangerous phenomenon and has the possibility to be extremely harmful for the group in question.
(The following scenario is extremely generalized.) Let’s take this scenario into mind. Say there’s an Asian main in a novel and they’re constantly depicted as shy and intelligent. Except let’s make it worse by saying almost all of the Asian representation in media is of shy and intelligent people. Because a ‘shy and intelligent’ Asian is the only representation you get of them, you will, unfortunately, begin to think Asians can only be shy and intelligent, and that there’s no in between. While that may seem extreme, it has already happened before. Think about what you thought when you heard Asian. I bet most of you though of East Asians because that tends to be what is represented when most people say Asia. Now think about how large Asia actually is, and how, by jumping to the nearest stereotype, you immediately excluded the entirety of South Asia, South East Asia, and many many more countries all because of the stereotypes presented in media, essentially alienating entire groups from their continent.
Now that you understand how harmful stereotypes and repeated use of it can be, let’s move on to a separate topic. Admitting someone did something wrong, whether it be in writing a minority or anything else, does not harm anyone in any way. Just because something is problematic does not mean that you can’t still enjoy its content. You can still enjoy the books and understand that some parts are harmful, it doesn’t lessen your joy of the book, only makes them more aware and knowledgeable.
All these people ask is for you to understand that there are issues within your favorite novels, and to accept that. Remember, these can be some of their favorite books too, and they don’t intend to hate on it, only to help spread awareness so it doesn’t happen again. History has the potential of being a viscous cycle if no one learns from the mistakes of themselves and others. So, I only ask you to please keep yourself educated, and listen to when someone tells you something is harmful, especially when that person belongs to that minority group. Thank you for listening.
