#i needed emily in entropy

have any plot (like cat adams, maeve, the shot in the leg in season 5, prision, his romance with jj, etc) that you find not interesting or not necessary?
oo i love this question !! i did it with all his trauma
tobias hankel (side note: i love the fact they used Sympathy for the Devil because i love that song) interesting for sure, i was at the edge of my seat and very necessary to his character development even though it was sad. i do think the drug addiction plotline could have been expanded a lot more thoroughly
held hostage by a cult interesting 11/10. i love this episode with my whole heart and he didn't seem too traumatized by it so that's nice
thinking his dad's a pedophile and murderer i think necessary for some backstory but again it's pretty fucked up for him
anthrax infection interesting !! not necessary overall, but i think it was a cool, suspenseful addition to the episode which is awesome
shot in the leg not necessary to spencer, necessary because of mgg. i'm just glad the writers didn't decide he needed to die or something
the whole headache/does he have schizophrenia thing i think this one's overlooked but it's so scary and sad for him, like he thinks his entire world is about to come crashing down. it did help him with a profile though
maeve not interesting, at all. i think it would have been much much better if she was expanded because there were a few tiny seconds and then a whole episode for her so i didn't feel connected to her or sad about her death like i did when Haley died, i just thought it was sad because Spencer was sad
shot in the neck love the suspense it added, love a mommy Alex moment, love JJ and Blake talking about Spencer having kids, don't love the fact they never gave him kids !!!!!!
dirty dozen/cat adam 10/10, so interesting, and i loved how much they made me hate Cat and the fact she kept coming back. the whole episode Entropy is one of the best with all the twists and turns, i just love it so much
his mom getting Alzheimer's why do they hate him and his mom ? just why ? it's so freaking sad and it's even sadder because he knows it could happen to him. totally unnecessary and mean. every other character got some happy family relationships with the family trauma they had, but spencer? nope.
prison still not sure how i feel about this in terms of necessity. i thought it was a really interesting storyline, sure, but its trauma rating is 12/10
JJ if you've been here a while, you probably know how i feel about this: i hate it. i love both characters so much but the plot of their hidden feelings for each other is such cheap, poor-quality writing
the whole 300 episode interesting and necessary !! i love how it shows how much he cares about his friends and Penelope especially and i love how it linked back to another episode, i wish there were more like that. i also really did think he was going to be a toasty boy
everyone he loves leaving him without any warning again, why ? we've got his dad, gideon, emily (worse because his best friend had to lie to him), hotch. this was so fucked up and i don't really feel it was a necessary trauma for him to keep reliving. is happy spencer too much to ask for ??

33, 35, 36 ;)
Thanks for the ask buddy <3
33. Whose closet (masculine or feminine version) would you like to have?
If I was a bit more confident, I would go for Garcia's but I'd take any of the women's closets; I like JJ's casual clothing, Tara's pink dress in Entropy is amazing and I love Emily's style in and out of the BAU.
34. What's a random hot take you have about the show/a character/a plot?
Hardly a new or controversial opinion but Rossi is a better character than Gideon.
35. What's your favorite one-liner?
"What's the matter; you need a hug or something?" - Rossi

four hands bloody
summary -  entropy but, its hotch and emily. and they’re in love. that’s it.
part seven of my sour series
‘all the things I did,
just so I could call you mine,
all the things you did,
well i hope i was your favourite crime’
-
Ten Years Ago
One year, five months and four days. That's how long they had been together when she announced she had been offered a job in Europe. Interpol, to be exact, and that she was leaving for Brussels in less than two months. There was no argument, nor was there a discussion, he simply takes her out for dinner, a celebration on her success so fresh out of college and they spend their last two months preparing for their separation. They pack up her apartment, they place certain things in storage and other things in her Mother's house in D.C, one that was empty for most of the year anyway and they enjoy their last few weeks together. Confessing love under the sheets, whispers of promises they know neither are going to be able to keep and they pretend as though there's a chance they'll meet again, even though in reality, they know its unlikely. Her love for Europe one he's very well aware of, and he knows once she's there she will never leave and he wouldn't want her to, and she's aware that he would never move, too fond of the city, his heart set on a job in the FBI, and she wouldn't ask him to give that up, just like he'd never ask her.
He takes her to the airport, cupping her face, wiping her tears with a sad smile as he holds back his own when they stand at her gate, parting way's for the first and final time.
"I love you." he whispers to her, and the happy laugh she lets out as she sniffles has his own small laugh escaping his chest. She hooks her hands to the back of his neck as she kisses him softly, the cold of her tears latching onto his skin as he pulls her closer.
"I love you, too." she whispers as she pulls away, gently resting her forehead on his, closing her eyes while she takes a small breath. "I—" she says but she stops herself, opening her eyes as she pulls away from him, her eyes on his as they stand there, feeling as though they were the only two people in the area.
"You're going to miss your flight." he tells her gently as the last calling for her plane echo's through the airport.
"I can't say goodbye to you." she whispers sadly, lacing her fingers through his as they rest in the middle of them.
"Then don't." He says, squeezing her hand as he entwines it with his, wiping her tears with the other, and she leans her face into it with a sad smile. "Think of it more as an... I'll see you later." he smiles to her and she laughs.
"Okay." she nods, "I'll see you later." she smirks.
"Go," he tells her, nodding as she slowly backs away, "I'm a phone call away."
"I love you." she tells him again as she steps back.
"I know," he says, "I love you too."
And just like that, with one last smile, she turns, her dark hair moving further out of focus until she is just a memory he can look back on, a woman he loved once.
Had he known just who that woman who turn into, he would have never let her get on the plane. Would have kept her in his arms, and then maybe none of this would have happened.
JJ runs into the briefing room, relief running through her veins as she finally has an ID on the killer they had been chasing for four months, a woman, who had a signature that matches one of an International terrorist, Ian Doyle, their first suspect as soon as the first two body's dropped, two Interpol agents, Clyde Easter and Sean McAllister, until he was found dead, and had been dead, a week longer than the two Agents, as well as his entire inner circle. His son still a missing person.
"I have an ID on her," JJ says as she rushes in, dropping the files on the table as she grabs the attention of the team. "All the Agent's who worked The Valhalla case last year have all been killed, apart from three who have been placed into witsec, using the the same signature Ian Doyle used," she tells them as she clicks on the screen. "Which made me think that it had to be someone Ian knew, right? Someone he trusted."
"What are you getting at?"
"Ian had a fiancé," JJ says, "Which we already knew, I know, however this is where it got interesting." she tells them as she clicks on the screen, "Ian, had a son, Declan, and everyone in Interpol had come to the conclusion that he and his inner circle were killed by another terrorist group and that his Fiancée would have taken Declan at his orders. But," she stops, “His Fiancée was a CIA agent, deep undercover, the Agents on the case just assumed he had killed her the moment she was made, her cover blown just the day before he was killed but there has been no record of her death anywhere."
"Who was she?" Morgan asks, looking through the files.
"Her cover name was Lauren Reynolds, and all files, pictures… everything was completely wiped when the case agents were found dead so its been impossible to find her real identify, to know if she had been found, dead or alive. So, I had Garcia work her magic..."
"Yes," The blonde says, standing up, clicking a few buttons on her computer as she pulls up the files she had recovered. "Lauren Reynolds, arms dealer, you know, everything that would be needed in a fake identify to get into the big leagues, but after searching around and doing several face recognitions, the same woman appeared, and its her. There is no doubt." Penelope tells the team.
"Who?"
"CIA Agent, Emily Prentiss." JJ says and the room goes silent as they stare at her picture on the right of Lauren Reynolds, the similarity leaving no questions, the only difference being in hair colour.
"She's the killer?" Reid asks.
"She's the only one from JTF-12 who's still alive, has the training, knows how to vanish, would have intimate knowledge of Ian, which is why the kills are exactly the same as his were."
"Do we think she's killed other people apart from the Agents?" Morgan questions
"She's vendetta driven, she'd kill anyone who came under that vendetta." JJ answers, "She fits the profile."
"Prentiss..." Rossi mumbles, "Why does that sound familiar?"
The room is silent, neither noticing Aaron pale as he stares at the picture in front of him. His mind running wild with questions.
"You worked for Ambassador Prentiss, right?" Dave asks Hotch, "Before you worked here?"
Hotch just nods, unable to trust his voice as his eye's move from the picture of her to the descriptions of her crime.
"Did you ever meet her?" Morgan asks, but Aaron doesn't answer, just simply stands.
"Excuse me." he says, before basically rushing from the briefing room and to his office, the sound of his door shutting echoing into the room.
"I'll take that as a yes." Morgan says, looking back at the picture on the screen. "That's her, huh."
"That's her."
"Now what?" Reid asks, and Rossi stands.
"I guess that all depends on what Aaron knows about her."
Slamming his office door shut behind him, he closes his eyes, taking deep breathes as his stomach turns to the point where he thinks he might be sick, the image of her on their board making his head spin with reasons, questions, but mostly, it just shows him flashes of the woman he knew, all those years ago, the woman who would smile at him from under his covers when he brought them back breakfast from his morning run, the woman who would kiss him so gently he theorised right there that she could never hurt anyone, the young woman he loved so much and who he knew loved him back just as equally now painted as a murderer, profiled, as a murderer, probably a murderer and he can't wrap his head around it, how someone so innocent and full of joy and happiness could switch so drastically and become of the most notorious and well known killers the BAU had looked for, how someone so light and full of life could become someone who took it from others, killing higher commanding agents from all sorts of government positions, leaving no trace except an M.O that leads back to a man he realises she knew well, probably even loved and he can't understand it.
"Aaron." Dave says as he opens the door, "I gather you knew her, back when you worked security?" he asks almost gently. He closes the door behind him, heading further into the office while Aaron stood at the window, staring out of it while he caught his breath, forcing the sick feeling to vanish.
"Something like that..." he mumbles, looking down to the floor as his heart rate lowers, his breaths evening out.
"How well did you know her?" Dave asks, taking a seat; Aaron turns, looking at his oldest friend with a face that tells him all he needs to know and the older man just looks at him with shock, before nodding his head. "Very well, it seems."
"Dave—" he begins but the older man shakes his head.
"This was years ago, the woman she is now wouldn't have been the woman you knew, there's no reason for explanations, not to me."
Aaron just nods, "So, what now?"
"Now, we come up with a plan of how to get her out of hiding, she hasn't been seen by anyone, that were aware of but she has to be somewhere, right?"
"She's CIA. She could be anywhere, she knows how to work the system better than anyone."
"Then we use something personal, give her a reason to show up, let her play her game."
"She never got on well with her mother I doubt anything like that would bring her out—" he stops when the older man looks at him, "What? Me?"
"Do you think it would work? Were you involved enough to have you be someone she'd want to see?"
"Dave, it was ten years ago."
"Yes," he tells him, "Which is why I'm asking how involved you were..."
"We were— It was..." Aaron says, before sighing, "Using me as bait might not work, she could be—"
"Did she love you?"
"What?"
"Emily, back then, did she love you?"
"Yes, but—"
"Then using you as bait will work." Dave says, standing up, "Trust me."
"You have a plan?"
"Sort of, but we have to tell the rest. All of it."
Aaron rolls his eyes, turning again to look out of the window.
"She needs catching, Aaron, she will find the last three, and she will kill them. We need to know why."
"I know," Hotch tells him, "Doesn't mean I have to like it."
He explains it to them, how he and Emily had dated ten years ago, before she got offered a job at Interpol, he explains that he hasn't heard from her in years and that he isn't even sure the plan will work, but they have to try. Said plan, being putting out their first press conference since they got the case, with Aaron, who will explain they have an ID on the killer and that they are close to catching them, their hope being that Emily will see it and reach out to him, knowing that with her ties to the CIA, she would have no issue finding his number.
"And if she reaches out?" Morgan asks, "Then what?"
"We let her set the terms, but we'll get her. If she calls, if this works, we'll get her. We would have found a weak spot." Reid tells them, "Love."
It does work, it take's a few days, but it works.
He's in his office, running through some reports when his phone rings.
"Hotchner."
"You have my attention," The voice on the other line says and he tenses, before he stands, clicking to the team as they follow him to the briefing room. "If I knew you were the Agent on the case I would have called sooner. I always did love it when I was the centre of your attention." she tells him just before he puts the phone on speaker.
"So you know we've figured it out? That it's you who's killing these agents?"
"I'm not worried." she says easily, they can hear her walking around somewhere, as though they were having a causal conversation, as though she wasn't an international killer, an assassin.
"Why's that?"
"Because, if I hadn't have called now, you would never have found me. I'm still two steps ahead." she says with a smirk. "That was the plan, right? For me to call?"
"It was." he says, looking at Garcia as she tries to trace the call.
"How about dinner?"
"I'm sorry?"
"Dinner, you know? Two people at a restauran—"
"I know what dinner is." he grumbles, hates that he can envision the smirk on her face, hates that it gives him butterflies. “What's your game?"
"No game," she tells him, "but, I figured if I'm going to be interrogated it might as well be over a nice three course meal."
"How do you know you won't be arrested on the scene?"
"Because if there was any evidence against me at all, I'd already be in your interrogation room." she tells him, "All you have is Ian's M.O, the death of my old team, and the fact that I was undercover... I'm CIA, Aaron, I know everything."
"So, you want to get dinner?"
"Sure," she says, as though she was accepting an invitation. "How does Saturday fit in with your schedule?"
The team nod at him, so he accepts.
"I have one condition." she tells him, "It's just you. No wire. No team."
"You know we can't do that.”
"Not even if were just two old friends catching up?" she teases, "Where's your sense of adventure, Aaron?"
"It's a wire or my team."
"Dealers choice," she teases, “if I get away don't feel too bad about it, I just don't think orange is my colour." she tells him, before the line goes dead.
"Anything?" Morgan asks Garcia, who shakes her head.
"Somewhere in Italy, no pin point location."
His phone beeps on the table then, and Rossi gently turns the screen to him.
"The name of the Restaurant and a time."
"Do you think this will work?"
"I think it's the best chance we've got."
His phone beeps again.
"Your team or a wire, not both, and if I find out you lied, someone will die, Aaron. I don't play games." Morgan reads aloud.
"You have to have both."
"You read the message—"
"No wire and there's no recorded confession, and we lose her, no back up and she could do anything." JJ tells him.
"We'll figure something out." Dave says, clasping the man on the back. "We're this close."
Aaron nods, but something tells him this wont be as easy as they predict.
Despite his protests, he's told he has to wear a wire, explanations of needing both eyes and ears on him (them) at at times. He steps into the restaurant, noticing JJ and Morgan sat at the table three away from his, sending them a nod as he sits down, he then notices Reid sat at the bar, then Dave sat at the table on the other side.
"You ready sir?" Penelope says down his ear piece from the unmarked van out front, "She's on her way in."
His heart hammers in his chest as he prepares himself, nerves racing through his body as he see's her for the first time in ten years and its nothing like he thought he would. He always imagined they'd get called to a case in Europe and she'd be there, or she would move back to the US and they'd bump into each other in the supermarket. But this? Meeting her in a restaurant because she's killed more than ten people in the span of a year? This he never imagined, because who would?
She's smirking as she walks over, the slit of her dress showing of her left leg and it almost leaves him breathless. She reaches the table in what feels like slow motion, every head in the place turned to face her as her heels clack on the hard floor, each one entranced by her. Even members of the team. Even him.
He stands once she's a few inches from him and soon she's right there, it’s then he realises he's just as enthralled by her as he was ten years ago, it has his stomach tightening. He nods at her as she smiles at him with the tilt of her head and a twinkle in her eye that he's seen before and suddenly it's ten years ago and there's no FBI, no dead Interpol and CIA agents, just them.
"No hug?" she teases, but he just stares, watching as her eyes move around the restaurant before back at him. "I see you went for team. Good choice." she says, taking a seat in the booth. "That mean's no wire, correct?"
"Correct." he lies, taking a seat across from her, watching as she grabs the wine menu.
"Good." she says casually as her eyes cast over the menu. "The one at the bar looks ten, are you sure he's qualified?"
It takes all of him not to laugh, her humour unchanged, the one thing that caught his attention in the first place all those years ago.
"I'm sure." he nods, looking down at his own menu as he rolls his lips.
"You can laugh, you know." Penelope tells him, "She's funny."
He simply clears his throat.
The waiter come over, she orders them a bottle of wine, before looking right back at him.
"It's been awhile." she tells him, "It seems we have a lot to catch up on."
He raises an eyebrow at her, "Yeah, I'd say so."
"Tell me about your life, Aaron." she smirks, knowing full well it's a game he isn't interested in playing.
"You want to have small talk?"
She just smiles, thanking the waiter as he places the wine on the table.
"Like you said, we have a lot to catch up on."
"That's not why were here."
"Then why are we?"
"Emily—" he says and her eyes catch his, her name coming off his tongue catching her off guard; she clears her throat as she picks up the glass.
"You have a tan line on your ring finger," she points out while bringing the glass to her lips, "either you took it off for my benefit, or you're recently divorced." she smirks, raising an eyebrow as he clenches his fist at the table, running his thumb over where his ring used to be, "Does it make me a bad person to hope its the latter?" she whispers to him, leaning over the table to trance her finger across his arms, laughing when he slowly pulls away, bringing her hand back to rest around the glass. "Divorced or game playing, Agent Hotchner?"
"Why?" he asks, "Does it make a difference."
"Yes." she tells him, "Either you're divorced, or you thought you could flirt your way into getting me into the back of a SWAT van, which just insults both our intelligence at this point." she says, before looking at him, "I'm not a toy, Aaron, you cant play with me till I give you want you want."
"I never planned to." he tells her, "Divorced."
"Kids?"
"Yes."
She nods, leaning back on the chair as she throws her eyes over to the blonde woman, an agent, she knows, and waves, raising an eyebrow in her direction.
"Your team aren't very good at blending in, Agent Hotchner." she mumbles, looking back at him, "Aren't you supposed to be profilers?"
"You already knew they were coming, why hide them?"
"Hm," she shrugs, "A challenge, maybe."
"Is that why you killed your old team? A challenge?"
"Really keen on getting down to business aren't we..." she chuckles, leaning her chin in her hand as she rests her elbow on the table. "No small talk?"
"Isn't that what we've been doing for the last half an hour?"
"Here I thought we were just reacquainting."
"Why did you do it?"
"I have my reasons."
"Then share them." he says, "You called me, Emily. You came here, why?"
"Maybe I just missed you." she muses, "Would that be so bad?"
"Not if it was the truth, but it's not."
"How do you know?"
"Because I don't think you're capable of those feelings anymore." he tells her, watches as her face falls for a moment before she smirks, her mask back in place, "You were, but something happened and it changed you. You've killed eleven people, five of which you considered friends... I don't think anyone is capable of feeling anything after that, how could they be?"
"Maybe I can compartmentalise." she offers with a smirk.
"Not this well." Aaron sighs, "Why come out of hiding? Why come here knowing there's a chance you could go to jail, why risk it.. If it wasn't to talk?"
Emily looks at her glass, rolling her lips as she sits straighter and clears her throat.
"Like I said," she tells him, "Maybe I just missed you." her voice is more soft as she says it this time, a voice that brings back memories from ten years ago, when she was the woman he loved, when they were happy.
"What happened to you?" he asks gently, looking at her as she catches his eyes, her mask falling and a look of pain staring back at him. She lifts up her glass, brining it to her lips.
"They got me in too deep and left me to die," she tells him, "Karma's a bitch."
"Undercover? As Lauren?"
She sighs, dropping her glass, looking around the restaurant at the other Agents slyly looking in her direction.
"I said no wire," she mutters under her breath and he tenses, "I said you could have your team but no wire. Those were my conditions."
"I'm not—"
"Don't lie to me, Aaron." she tells him, watching as the Agents in the room start to move, another hint that he is in fact wearing one. She looks at him with a head tilt, "I said no wire."
"Rules are rules—" he starts, and she nods, dragging her tongue across her front teeth before she looks him dead in the eye, yet this time it isn't pain that looks back at him, it's something else entirely, something he has never seen from her before and it has terror climbing through him.
"They sure are," she agrees, "Do you remember mine?"
And he does, they all do, if i find out you lied, tricked me in anyway, someone will die, Aaron. I don't play games. Her words running wild in everyone's head as she looks around the restaurant.
"Emily—" he tries but she's already standing as is the rest of his team, their guns aimed at her and she laughs almost viciously once she's on her feet, the team surrounding her at all angles.
"No one shoot." Aaron tells them as they stand, gun's aimed at her.
"You should listen to your boss." she smirks, pulling her own gun from her inner thigh from a slit in her dress, clicking it as she grabs a man from the table behind her, gun to his head as she smiles.
"Now," Emily sighs, "Are you going to let an innocent man die because you couldn't follow my simple instructions?"
"Emily, just, everyone out their guns down." he says, "Now." he orders and the team lower their weapons cautiously. "You want the wire gone the wire can be gone."
"Too little too late for that I'm afraid."
“You wanted to talk, right? You came all this way. You risked a lot.” he tries, “I’ll remove the wire and we can talk. Just us.”
Emily stares at him, catching her eyes on his before she pushes the man down, placing the gun back on the strap on her tigh before she takes small steps towards him, smirking as she the others agents watch her carefully.
She places her hand on his chest, feels the wire and before he knows it she’s yanking it from him, the device falling to the floor and everyone in the room jumps as she slams her heel into it.
“You broke my trust.” she tells him, their eyes meeting. “You want to talk?”
“Yes.” he nods.
“Then come with me,” she smiles, “No team. No wire. And I’ll tell you whatever you want.”
“Emily. You know I can’t do that.”
“Why?” she asks with the tilt of her head, “You're going to act like there wasn't a plan B? I'm sure there's a voice recorder...” she stops, raising an eyebrow as if to challenge him, before she rolls her eyes, pulling the voice recorder from the back of the booth and throws it at him.
"Shall we?" she smirks.
He’s silent for a moment, before he accepts and she smiles, holding her hand out for him to take and he sighs before placing his own in it.
They walk out of the restaurant, as they pass Morgan and Reid she smiles.
“Don’t wait up.” she winks, and they’re out of the building.
“I’ll drive,” she smiles, pulling his car keys from his back pocket with a wink.
He doesn’t dare look back as they get into his car, and as they speed down the road, something tells him this won’t end well. He doesn’t see how it could.
She parks the car on the streets, turning the engine off before she looks at him.
"Do you know where we are?"
He turns to face her, his expression soft as he nods.
"Of course." he tells her, "We're a few blocks from-"
"The car has a tracker," she smirks, "Come on."
She jumps out of the car, all but slamming the door before she ventures down the street, a carefree stride as her heels click against the floor, he follows suite.
As they reach the old building she stops, turns to face him.
"Its a shame they closed it down." she muses, "We used to hide out here all the time."
"It was out of town."
She laughs, before she heads towards the ladder to the roof, ignoring his clear detest to the idea.
Once she's on the floor she inhales, looking up, listening as Aaron came up next to her.
"How long do you think we have?"
"Half an hour, tops."
"That'll do." she smiles, walking aimlessly. "Ask away, I know you want to."
"I want to understand..." he tells her, "Why you did it?"
"I told you."
"Tell me again."
"They— All of them," she starts, "They left me to get killed."
"What do you mean?"
She turns, facing him as she sighs.
"I'd been under for...just over two years and Ian started...asking questions. Normal ones, about kids, and marriage." she explains, "And when I couldn't answer he got suspicious, starting asking around if they knew me, and he was... I don't know but I knew I needed to be pulled out before he found out anything."
"They wouldn't pull you out?"
"Worse," she laughs, "Clyde refused to pull me out, Sean was planning on having the whole organisation Ian was running killed, me along with them."
"Thats—" he stops, "They can't do that."
"They can if they lie to higher ups, claim I've started working against them."
"Why would they do that?"
"I don't know. I don't care." she tells him, "Tsia, who I thought was my friend was the one who came up with it, the whole plan to have them all taken down, Jeremy helped her."
"So you... Killed them?"
She smiles as she looks at him, "Yes."
"And the higher up's who let it happen?"
"Everyone." she tells him, "Apart from three, who by the way, I was on my way to when I heard your press release."
"You—" he says but stops, shaking his head. "And you... Don't feel any guilt?"
"Why should I? They were going to kill me." she answers, sitting on the edge of the roof, her legs dangling as she lays back, looking at him with a head tilt as it lays on the floor. "Join me."
He sighs, before dropping next to her, the both of them staring at the stars.
"I heard you got stabbed." she says softy, turning to face him as he turns to face her with a frown.
"How?" he asks but she raises an eyebrow and she just chuckles. "I did." he answers.
"The reaper, right? George?"
"You know him?" he asks with wide eyes and she laughs, looking back up at the sky.
"No." she tells him, "I'm sorry about your family."
"Me too." he sighs, and before he can say anything else the surrounding area is lit with blue flashing lights, sounds of sirens echoing in their ears.
"That was quick." she laughs, sitting up. "What's it going to be, Aaron?"
"What?" he asks as they both stand, "You're going to jail."
"No," she says, slowly moving towards him and he want's to move, he should move, but he can't. She reaches out to cup his face, before kissing him, grabbing a needle from her pocket before jabbing him in the shoulder and he goes instantly, falling into a hump in her arms. She lowers him, resting his head gently on the ground before grabbing the voice recording and stroking his cheek.
"I'll come back for you." she whispers, before quickly standing, rushing off the roof and down the streets before the FBI even figure out where she and Aaron were.
Once they find him, once he's given the all clear by the medics, he's asked questions about what happened and he says only that he can't remember, that she'd said something about her team leaving her to be killed and the rest is a blur. It isn't true, and he refuses to think about whether or not they believe him.
His lips feel hot with the pressure of her own lingers on them, the ghost of her hand on his cheek feeing like a burn. He lays awake that night and wonders if he’d never see her again, and he hates that he hopes he does.
Over the course of the next three weeks, she remains on his mind constantly, a mixture of what they used to be, the time they spent together feeling like a life time ago and yesterday all at the same time, but what she became, who she became, reminds him that meeting her again, being reminded how much he had loved her, means nothing. There is no more them, no more hopes for a future with her, no more wonders about her life, just the facts. And the facts are that she’s a murderer, an international serial killer and makes him hate himself more than he is ever thought he could when he realises that he doesn’t even blame her, that he understands why she became who she did, why she did what she did, and it has him unable to look at himself in the mirror, leaves him wondering that maybe he’s just as bad as she is, that if he was given the opportunity to kill the person who had ruined his life, taken his family, he wouldn’t even hesitate to put a bullet through his head makes him her equal, rather than someone who had the right to arrest her.
He doesn’t expect to hear her, when he’s on the phone begging for Foyet to spare his family, racing back to his family home with prayers that he makes it, in fact it’s the first time she’s been off his mind since their reunion, so when the gun shot echos down his ears, the silence on the other end defending as he hits his fists against the dash, it takes a new moments for her voice to even process, to even hit his ears, but when it does his broken heart hammers in his chest.
“Hello George.” she says, and he can see the smirk on her face, can imagine the startled look on his.
“who are you—“ he starts, before there’s a crash, and he’s left with the dial tone, the incessant ringing sounding like a siren as he speeds down the road.
He arrives at the house not twenty minutes later, not even turning the engine off as he rushes into his old home, the home where he ex wife, the mother of his child, lays dead, murdered by a man he brought into her life. He expects there to be shouts, screams, raised voices from the two of them but the house is silent as he walks through it, the only thing he can hear is the sound of his heartbeat as it races in his chest, his whole body on edge, his hand on his gun.
"It's over." her voice say's from across the living room and he turns quickly, his eyes meeting hers from across the room and it takes a few seconds for him to notice the blood on her hands and her shirt, the knife more red than silver as she twists around in her hand, her eyes staring right back at him, a twinkle of something in them that he just can’t describe.
“Where’s my son?” he asks, “what did you do?”
“I didn’t touch your son, Aaron. I have no idea where he is.” she tells him, sitting up, “I did however get into a little bit of a brawl with the man who—” she stops, “I was about three seconds too late. She was dead when I got here…” she says, an almost sadness to her tone that catches him off guard. He's stood in shock, trying to work out his next move, looking around the living room in a sort of haze as he tries to piece together what the hell he's supposed to do now, when she stands, the sound of her heeled boot on the hard floor making his head snap towards her, the sight of her covered in someone else's blood one he never thought he would have imprinted in his brain, and he wants to yell, he wants to scream at her, but he can't because he's grateful. Grateful that she got here in time to stop him from killing his son, grateful that she put an end to his torment, killing the man he would have spent the rest of his life hunting for if he got away, grateful that she took it upon herself, to end the man's life, leaving him free of the burden of taking one, no matter how much he would have been justified, no matter how much it would have been deserved. But then she's walking towards the front door and even though he is grateful, even though he wants to let her go, whisper a small thank you to her as she leaves, he can't because he has a duty, a duty he has sacrificed too much for to let her slip away now, and he find's himself grabbing her wrist as she sips passed him, and is taken aback when she freezes, her eyes snapping up to his.
"I can't let you leave." he tells her, his eyes burning into hers, regret filling them because this is the last thing he wants to do. "I'm sorry."
"Me too," she whispers, and her words have him tensing, unsure of what exactly she could do, knowing far too well what she was capable of, knowing she does not deal well with betrayal, he starts to think that she never really has, even then. He feels her go to pull from his grip and before he knows it, he has her pinned to the door, a gasp leaving her lips as her back knocks into it harshly, his side pf his arm resting on her chest, keeping her pinned as he looks at her. "Ouch." she tells him, smirking as he meets her eye, his face inches from hers.
"Why are you doing this?" he asks her softly, "How did you even know?"
"I was in the area." she tells him, a lie, he knows, and he simply just stares at her. "I was... doing you a favour." she whispers, hating that her mask was slipping, that he still had this hold on her.
"A favour?"
"You've been worried about your family, I thought if I could give you some... If I could insure you that they were okay that you'd, I don't know, stop beating yourself up about it."
"You were with them?"
"Haley didn't hate you, Aaron." she whispers, "If anything she was grateful that they had the option of witsec at all."
"Stop." he growls at her, pinning her to the door more harshly, letting his anger take over. "How did you—"
"I saw him talking to them and I knew... every single one of us are the same, Aaron. I knew. I was just too late." she whispers, lifting a hand to his cheek to wipe the tears she's sure he isn't even aware has fallen. "Go and get your son." she tells him gently, smiling sadly at him as he looks at her.
"You saved his life," he whispers to her, "getting here when you did." he says, "you weren't too late."
Emily smiles softly, running her thumb across his cheek, "Go and find your son, your team will be here soon."
"I—" he says, conflicted between his duty and his love. "If I let you go... you have to promise me that you're done. That you will settle down in a small country and that you will be done." he tells her, "the anger that you're holding, the killing... it won't do what you think it will. If I let you go you have to promise me you will stop, and let yourself be happy."
"I don't think happy is in the cards for me," she whispers, "But I promise." she tells him.
He looks at her, seeing the woman he loved all those years ago, the woman he knows he does and never will stop loving and he tells himself that if this is the last time he ever see's her this will not be how it ends, and he kisses her, his arm moving from across her chest to around her waist, pulling her into him gently as her arm hooks around the back of his neck.
"Go," he whispers against her lips when she pulls away slowly. She meets his lips once again for a chaste kiss, before she drips out of the door, the sound of another one slamming a few yards away making him jump before he heads for his son, the sound of the team arriving outside echoing through the walls.
She walks right passed the team, watching as they rush into the house and she wonder's what he will tell them. She sits in the empty house across the street, looking out of the window as she sips on a glass of whatever wine she had found in their pantry and she watches. Watches him leaving the house with his son in his arms, watches him pass the little boy to the blonde agent, watches as he speaks to officers, lets her mind ponder about just what story he's spinning to them and she's caught completely off guard when he looks up at the window of the house across the street, like he knew if he looked she would be there, and as their eyes meet, he just nods slightly, and looks away, following the older agent into the back of an SUV, he son reaching out for him, and then they're gone.
He tells the team how she slipped right passed him when he went to get his son, that he has no idea what her game is or where she went. He lies because he has to, he lies because he can, he lies because he can not find it in himself to care anymore, and he thinks maybe if he sees her again, he might just run off with her.
Two months and eight days, that how long she waits until she calls him, hidden away in a small city in Paris, her heart hammering in her chest every time she remembers that fateful day. Every time she remembers that kiss.
"Hotchner," he says, half distracted by the paperwork he's filling out on his desk, she remains silent for a few moments, wondering what to say, wondering if he'd even want to speak to her.
"Hey," she says simply, and the silence that follows makes her stomach turn.
He leans back on his chair, the sound of her voice through the phone filling him with something like comfort and he cant' help but smile, even now.
"Hi," he says, "It's been awhile."
"I had a few things to sort out." she teases, smiling to herself. "How have you been?"
"It's been hard but, I think we're through the worst of it." he tells her, "it seems as though you kept your promise."
"Only for you." she jokes, "I needed a break anyway."
"Hm, sure. " he plays, the sound of her easy laughter on the other end making his heart flutter, "where are you?"
"That depends," she says.
"On what?"
"On who's side your on." she whispers, he can hear the pain in her voice, the hurt, and it makes him want to throw up that someone who used to be so free, and kind, has been made into this, forced into this, and he speaks before he even realises he wants to.
"Yours," he tells her, "always" he adds quietly, and the small breath she takes on the other end makes him smile.
"I'll call you again when I can," she whispers, "There's one more part of the promise I need to keep."
"I look forward to it." he smiles, and the line goes dead.
He knows he should feel guilty, dirty, for feeling like this for her, for hiding her like this but he just can't. He loves her, and why shouldn't he?
He hears of Emily Prentiss' death through JJ as she closes the file, and it has his heart snapping in his chest for a moment, until he finds himself thinking that maybe she just created the best get out of jail free card he'd ever seen.
"I heard you died." he tells her over the phone when she calls a few days later, a small smile on his lips. Her laugh sends waves through him.
She calls again two weeks later, it's a short conversation as he sits in a hotel room, whispering soft words of how he’s growing to hate the job he works, missing his son, wishing for a new life, one where his failure doesn't follow him around and she listens, soft words of advice falling from her lips that make his heart warm.
They talk for hours, days, weeks, months and soon enough he breaks.
“I can’t stay here anymore." he confesses as he watches his son play in the living room.
“Then move,” she tells him.
“Where?”
“Where do you want to go?"
“Where are you?" he asks softly, and he can feel the smile on her lips.
"A small town... somewhere in France." she whispers.
"Maybe I'll move there." he offers, a smile on his lips as he listens to her try and hold down her nerves.
“I...suppose that’s always an option,” she agrees after a few moments of silence.
“Are you an option?” he whispers, his true connotation not lost on her, and the question has her heart thudding against her ribs.
“Yes.” she tells him softly, and he knows its the right decision when his heart flutters.
He and Jack move three weeks later, a soft apology to Jessica, who promises to visit once they are settled, a conversation with the team on his last case, a simple explanation that he's moving for Jack, for a better life, and everyone stands in shock when they realise he never did tell them where he was going.
He follows the directions on his phone to a small little town outside of Nice, the sound of Jack's laughter as he steps out of the car and into the sun a sound he'd been wishing to hear for months. He reaches up as they're walking and he scoops the boy into his arms. They're just at the gate of her home when she steps out, leaving agasint the door. He walks, unable to hold back his smile as he heads towards her.
"Hey," she smiles when he reaches her.
"Hi," he smiles back, "Jack, this is Emily." he tells his son, who looks at the new woman with wide eyes, "can you say hello"?
"Hi." the boy smiles, his hand coming out in a small wave and she laughs.
"Hi." she says back, "Come on." she says, opening the door further to let them through. He stops at the side of her, before kissing her softly, the feel of her smile making his heart jump. He smile when he pulls away, before heading into the house, whispering to Jack as the boy points to things around the new surroundings.
Emily walks beside him as they reach the overly large garden and he looks at her.
"Nice place," he smirks and she shrugs.
"I killed the owners." she says nonchalantly, before heading off towards the large garden furniture in the middle of it, the feel of his eyes on her back making her laugh. "Are you coming?" she says, holding out her hand and he takes three steps, grabbing her hand in hers as they walk.
"You didn't really.." he whispers and she holds back a smirk as she looks at him.
"A lady never tells." she answers, and the sound of Jacks happy laughter as he jumps into the pool has the questions dying on his tongue.
She lets him ponder about her words for two weeks before she whispers in the dark that it was her mothers home, one she visited frequently when they were in France, and that after her mother passed it was sold, to her, but the name she put it under is one she'll never share.

There are no theorems in category theory.
Emily Riehl, Category Theory In Context
Mathematicians often tell her this; hence the book.
If I had to summarise her views in one sentence, it would be:
Everything is an adjunction.
I also like the division these mathematicians are making to her: essentially, a theorem is anything that solves Feynman’s challenge: by a series of clear, unsurprising steps, one arrives at an unexpected conclusion.
Examples for me include:
17 possible tessellations
6 ways to foliate a surface
27 lines on a cubic
1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 28, 2, 8, 6, 992, 1, 3, 2, 16256, 2, 16, 16, 523264, 24, 8, 4 ways to link any-dimensional spheres.
the existence of sporadic groups
surprising rep-theory consequences of Young diagrams, Ferrers sequences, and so on (you could say the strangeness of integer partitions is really to blame here…)
59 icosahedra
8 geometric layouts
Books which are bristling with mathematical ideas of this kind include Montesinos on tessellations, Geometry and the Imagination (the original one), and Coxeter’s book on polyhedra (start with Baez on A-D-E if you want to follow my path). Moonshine and anything by Thurston or his students, I’ve found similarly flush with shockng content—quite different to what I thought mathematics would be like. (I had pictured something more like a formal logic book: row by row of symbols. But instead, the deeper I got into mathematics, the fewer the symbols and the more the surnames thanking the person who came up with some good idea.)
Note that a theorem is different here to some geometry — as in The Geometry of Schemes. The word geometry used in that sense, I feel, is to have a comprehensive enough vision of a subject to say how it “looks” — but the word theorem means the result is surprising or unintuitive.
This definition of a theorem, to me, presents a useful challenge to annoying pop-psychology that today lurks under the headings of Bayesianism, cognitive _______, behavioural econ/finance, and so on.
Following Buliga and Thurston to understand the nature of mathematical progress, within mathematics at least (where it’s clearer than elsewhere whether you understand something or not—compare to economic theory for example), there is a clear delination of what’s obvious and what’s not.
What is definitely not the case in mathematics, is that every logical or computable consequence of a set of definitions is computed and known immediately when the definitions are stated! You can look at a (particularly a good) mathematical exposition as walking you through the steps of which shifts in perspective you need to take to understand a conclusion. For example start with some group, then consider it as a topological object with a cohomology to get the centraliser. Or in Fourier analysis: re-present line-elements on a series of widening circles. Use hyperbolic geometry to learn about integers. Use stable commutator length (geometry) to learn about groups. Or read about Teichmüller stuff and mapping class groups because it’s the confluence of three rivers.
Sometimes mathematical explanations require fortitude (Gromov’s "energy") and sometimes a shift in perspective (Gromov’s (neg)"entropy").
This view of theorems should be contrasted to the disease of generalisation in mathematical culture. Citing two real-life grad students and a tenured professor in logic (one philosophical, one mathematical, the professor in computer science):
I like your distinction between hemi-toposes, demi-toposes, and semi-toposes
I care about hyper-reals, sur-reals, para-consistency, and so on
Abstract thought — like mathematicians do — is the best kind of thought.
(twitter.com/replicakill, the author of twitter.com/logicians, ragged on David Lewis by saying “What do mathematicians like?” “What do mathematicians think?” —— And Corey Mohler has done a wonderful job of mocking Platonism, which is how I guess the thirst for over-generalisation reaches non-mathematicians.)
Paul Halmos knew that cool examples beat generalisations for generalisation’s sake, as did V. I. Arnol’d. And it seems that the people a Harvard mathematician spends her time with make reasonable demands of a mathematical idea as well. It shouldn’t just contain previous theories; it should surprise. In Buliga’s Blake/Reynolds dispute, Blake wins hands down.

Dear… Love…
A series of letters written, but never sent.
A part of Idyllic Entropies
Show: Criminal Minds
Pairings: Emily Prentiss and Aaron Hotchner
Read on Ao3 (above), or below the cut
Dear Aaron,
I understand why you did what you did. I understand that you did it to protect me, but my question is why? Why would you want to protect me after I lied to you? All of you. But I hurt you, and you still want to protect me. I just don’t understand why you are still protecting me, but I guess that is what you do when you love someone. That is, if you still love me.

Love, Emily
Dear Aaron,
Once, I thought Paris was beautiful. I used to love the smell of the fresh bread baking, I loved the bright new flowers in the windowsills. Now it is all dull. I miss the team. I miss my life. I miss you. I miss Jack. I miss waking up on Sunday mornings to the scent of pancakes and coffee and the sound of Jack’s giggles. I miss falling asleep beside of you. I need you. But I hope you have moved on. I hope you don’t miss me, because I could never wish this pain on anyone else.

Love, Emily
Dear Emily,
I’m sorry I sent you away. I miss you so much. The team misses you too, but they don’t know you’re alive. Their grief is different than mine. They are mourning the loss of a life while I am mourning something I can never have back. Jack misses you too, but I told him you were on a secret mission. He wanted to help, of course.
I don’t know if you’ll ever be able to come back home. But if you do, just know I’m waiting to you. Forever and always.

Love, Aaron
Dear Aaron,
Have I ever told you about my time in Paris when I was young? I was eight, and it was just me and my mother. She bought be this beautiful necklace, called the “Paris Rose”. The gems were blue and a deep green. It would’ve matched perfectly with the ring you bought for me, the one I found in the velvet box in your desk drawer. I hope that someday, if I ever get to come home, you’ll ask me. I will wait for you. Forever and always.

Love, Emily
Dear Emily,
Jack asked how your mission was going. I didn’t know how to answer.
I’m going to Pakistan. I cant stay in Washington and act like everything is okay anymore. I miss you so much, Em. I need you to come home.
Love, Aaron
Dear Aaron,
I’m sorry I left.
Love, Emily
Dear Aaron,
I’m excited to be home. I was so excited to see you, to hug you, to kiss you. I’m glad we found Doyle and saved Declan. I’m so happy to see you. I missed you so, so much. Forever and always, right?
Love, Emily
Dear Emily,
You’re finally home. I can finally kiss you and tell you all of the things I thought I never would. But I feel like things are different this time, and it bothers me. We both have our scars, our nightmares. But can get through this together, right?
Love, Aaron
Dear Emily,
I was going to ask you to marry me. Then you left. I just want you to be happy, Em. And if that’s not with me… then I can just hope in my heart that maybe, just maybe, you would’ve said yes.
Love, Aaron
Dear Aaron,
I don’t know how you did this job. Making the decisions and hoping you did the right thing. I hope you and Jack are okay. I hope we can bring you guys home soon. I hope you find someone, and I hope you’re happy.
Also, I would’ve said yes.

Love, Emily

HI 🤍 I have. Questions 🤍 allow me to selfishly ask cause i love your mind. i was going to dm privately but i thought an ask would let you take your time and whatnot. Also I have a gist of some possible answers already but I still wanted to ask
1. Do you have favourite scents or perfume?
2. Do you have favourite myths or fairytales?
3. What themes and motifs interest you most in stories?
4. If you had to describe yourself with three fictional characters who would they be?
5. do you annotate books? also when you are curious about something in a book you’re reading do you pause and go on a research tangent or read on and do all that later?
Yeah okay have a great day 🫀
okay so the message came back even though it's still from your old deactivated blog? tumblr is so weird...
1. I know basically nothing about perfume or how to describe smells. that said, I will always like the smell of lavender, plants after rainfall, and the ocean (extremely basic of me i know).
2. I love the bacchae (by euripides). it’s so fucked up and violent. I like when signy in the volsunga saga was an absolute savage and a girlboss. I like fairytales about tricksters who survive by their wits, like the one about the tailor who deceives giants (“seven in one blow”). I like how many stories there are about a rabbit in the moon and why it’s there. i love pretty much any story about sir gawain. baba yaga's pretty dope. the golem of prague of course. and uhhh.... i'm sure there are others that just aren't coming to mind rn, but that's all i can think of off the top of my head.
3. i’m obsessed with metatextuality. i can make anything meta just watch me. in that same vein, I love stories about the transformative power of stories (for good and bad), and people who use stories as a tool for survival (great example of this is in the breadwinner, also 1001 nights). I love sparagmos (if that wasn’t clear from my previous answer). I love the power of the collective over the individual (again, for good and bad). i love doors/portals/liminal spaces. i love parallel universes/interdimensional travel/the multiverse. i love fraught relationships between mothers and daughters. i love when there is a sassy little talking black cat. i love cycles and rings and i love entropy and the absurd. i love when a character is really suicidal but they know they can't die because their loved ones need them and that gives them a larger purpose. i love the angel in the house trope, against my better judgment (sorry miss woolf). and above all, i love a really cool grandma.
4. woah.... three characters.... that’s hard... I think emily from the will arbery play heroes of the fourth turning is probably the character who has resonated with me most in recent memory (saw it in 2019). also obligated to give a shoutout to daria from daria who got me through middle school like wow she is literally me. wirt from over the garden wall resonated a lot with me back in 2014 and he still does. lear’s fool of course. both beth and jo march from little women. okay that’s more than three. I’ll stop now
5. it really depends on what im reading and how. I don’t like writing on physical copies of books, but I read a lot on my phone too and annotate them there. sometimes on physical copies I’ll take note of a certain page and then write some notes on my phone, or stick post it notes on the pages depending on what my purpose with the text is. it also just depends on my mood, how invested in a certain text I am, etc. I don’t have any sort of regimented reading habits, I just read...

CM Criticism.
I am writing this instead of sleeping so bear with me.  These are just a few, believe me i have more and i might make a part 2 of this post focusing more on the others. (if you want that, tell me so i can speed it up. imma write it anyways)
Part two of this rant
Mind you, Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows so this is coming out of a place of love and maybe I am a bit late to the party considering i started watching it fully this year only.
I took a break from Criminal minds a while ago to catch up on Supernatural’s seasons 13,14 and 15 before 15.5 aired 2 weeks ago (then i re-watched a few of the earlier seasons for nostalgia reasons) and once i went back to season 13 of Criminal Minds (i am currently mid-14) i can’t help but hate this tiny very important detail of CM’s:
They should’ve fleshed out the characters more.
They should’ve gave us more episodes of the BAU being a family and just chilling. There is a reason S7 finale is the best one. They should’ve gave us WAY more character-centric episodes.
There were some episodes that could’ve been replaced with an episode that focused more on our main characters with their families or with their traumas instead of it being just 5 mins at the end of the episode.
Have they not noticed how well the episodes that focused on our characters did?
Entropy. God, Entorpy. That whole episode had a case but it focused on my boi Reid and it’s the highest rated episode of the show.
100, Zugzwang, Profiler Profiled, Minimal Loss, Amplification, True Genius, LAUREN, Damaged... so on.
I know the first two have deaths in them that make it heartbreaking, but the others don’t.
They RARELY address anything on this show.
Reid was a DRUG ADDICT. This should’ve been addressed way more than it was. And not just in passing like S7 Ep2 did. Why didnt they show us Reid sympathizing with drug victims. They had cases with non-consensual drug use. What about going to more meetings? Don’t get me fucking started how poorly they handled it with the team’s LACK of reaction or help or support.
What about his friend (ex-lover but i am not gonna touch on that, they totally fucked in New Orleans) Ethan? Was he even mentioned again? Why is Reid shown as a loner all throughout the show but they said he coached basketball ball and had a friend in Ethan. I get the characteristic of him being a loner and the bullying but he did say that “his social standpoint changed once he coached basketball” also he seemed to have friends in that episode in S1 at the bar. He plays chess in the park, surely there were people his age.
Also is he not close to Will? I feel like he would be considering he is his son’s godfather. Also i want to know how well Reid and Stephen Gideon knew each other. They hugged when they saw each other at Jason’s funeral. Were they friends through Jason?
What happened to his Headaches? Was that really just a reason to introduce Maeve into the story? I don’t think so.
They showed Reid buying a piano, did he learn how to play?
He was banned from casinos in Las Vegas, what’s the story there and how was he caught.
He took care of his mother from 8 or 9 to 18. That needed to be addressed more. Also she slapped him in S12, that is 100% not the first time from Reid’s reaction so i want to know if he had to avoid CPS and how.
Hotch was abused as a child and this was mentioned ONCE. The whole show revolves around trauma, why did they never address it again? He lost hearing in one of his ears due to an explosion and it was mentioned in just ONE other episode. At least his stabbing scar tissue made a reappearance in episode Route 66 with the hallucinations which was also truly one of the most heartbreaking episodes. The only consistent thing they did on this show is Hotch’s relationship with Jack and i am grateful for that.
Hotch’s exit was unjustified and childish. I get that there was a problem BTS but Hotch was is one of the MOST IMPORTANT characters on the entire show and they did us so dirty. It was rude and disrespectful. Did he really not contact the team after Mr. Scratch died besides to tell them that he’s not coming back?
Garcia is a adopted and they mentioned it in 2 episodes. She was recruited instead of going to Jail, she was a criminal. A well respected criminal.
JJ had a miscarriage and Emily had an abortion.
I wanted to know more about Morgan’s home life, his sisters and his mother. What happened to his cousin? Why was he placed in the BAU from the Bomb Squad? That’s a big shift. Is he working now or retired. (i don’t think this was mentioned). Why didn’t they show us his reunion scene with Reid? He meant more than the world to Spencer, not just Garcia. I can’t believe Reid would not tell Morgan he was in prison. Also was Reid named Hank’s godfather? i know Garcia isn’t his godmother.
Look i am not saying all this determines a character’s entire... character. But i just wish they humanized them more then just 5 mins at the beginning of the episode and 5 mins at the end or 2 or 3 episodes out of a 22 episode season. These facts are all we have. The show had 324 episodes.
Maybe i am this worked up about it because I went from re-watching Supernatural to Criminal Minds and they work with two different formulas. But if they had just fleshed out the characters a bit more, it would’ve been better. (Not that Supernatural is any better but that’s another post)

The Closing Ceremonies for Math Poetry Month 2021
I have a lot more to say about math and poetry, and I will save most of it for next April, I think. All I can say for now is that math and poetry continue to be powerful forces in my life, and I hope at least a few people gained something from this little project of mine. What I want to end this first Math Poetry Month on is some suggested reading:
1. Strange Attractors: Poems of Love And Mathematics edited by Sarah Glaz and JoAnne Growney
This poetry anthology is full of amazing math poems by the likes of Emily Dickinson, Shel Silverstein, Bernoulli, and Lewis Carroll, and it is all the proof you need that math and poetry have a deep connection. If you are just starting out with math poetry, I think this is the essential body of work. These two women are also active in the world of math poetry, so going to either of their websites is a treat!
2. A Mathematician’s Apology by G.H. Hardy
Written in 1940, A Mathematician’s Apology is a love letter to and criticism of the art of mathematics, yes, the art of mathematics. In it, Hardy compares mathematics to poetry many times, and even mathematicians to poets. He says: “A mathematician, like a painter or a poet, is a maker of patterns,” and if that’s not enough to sell you on this beautiful work, perhaps Hardy’s self deprecating take on what mathematicians are really about will peak your interest. I highly recommend this.
3. Any poems by James Sylvester, or maybe even his book The Laws of Verse
Victorian math poet James Sylvester is my personal favorite for the era. His work is what math poetry is all about: making mathematics relatable and human, capturing mathematical beauty in verse, the way we capture other types of beauty in verse, and giving not a single care about it.
4. Modern math poetry!!
I might be biased, but I think the poems my friends wrote are amazing examples of math poetry, read them here: [link]
And another modern creator that I love is 3Blue1Brown on YouTube. Here is a link to his math poetry! [link]
I also have written some math poetry myself, which you can find on this blog in multitudes, but in the spirit of math poetry month and how inspired I was and continue to be by writing math poetry, I want to show you the first math poem I ever wrote. Here is Some Mathematical Love Poetry; for, I don’t know, posterity or something.
Some Mathematical Love Poetry
Kisses are calculus, the examination of limits the jumbled breathing of trapezoids.
Kisses are entropy, nuanced chaos that taste like regulation the systematic rhythm of wanting.
My God, it smells like numbers in here you’ll inhale until only the irrationals are left on account of how dazzling pi appears when reflected in my glasses. Honey,
what would Bernoulli think of us? All lemniscate and no cardioid, proving by induction, holding on in 4-D.
Baby, kisses are algorithms. A step-by-step guide, instructions for the mathematical.

I know you're at home working on your fancy garden and waterfalls and shit but come play on tumblr with me. Write me a 3-sentence (or 3000-sentence) something.
Son of a bitch, Ismat. I know you’re doing a rewatch, so Scully’s water feature can make a cameo for you as well.
***
She bought the house after her mother died, a fortress against sentimentality. Pictures on her phone and in albums if she wants them, but gone are the framed wedding pictures and favorite snapshots. Gone are the knick-knacks, the souvenirs, the mementos that kept her tethered to a space. She wants only a port.
A Pisces, she likes the water that tumbles beneath her walkway, eroding tiny nibbles from the ground as she stands on it. She likes the burbling entropy of it, reminding her that this all too shall pass.
The TV guy came, forcing her into brittle small talk, and she ended up with a full home integration system. There is a monotonous peace in the setup, the self-contained sterility of her environment. It contains no surprises. She gave the dog to a neighbor, hoping it would be enough distance to keep him safe.
Mulder says it looks like Bill Gates’s guest house.
Mulder, Mulder, with his precarious heaps of organic matter all about. Books with thick creamy pages, pictures and posters and t-shirts and afghans. His fireplace takes logs, his freezer takes ice cube trays. He and his house thrum together in a symbiosis Scully can no longer tolerate. She hates the weight of obligations, of being needed at all. Her house is sufficient without her, a synthetic organism with no need for her messy human biology.
Her son is a quiet specter, appearing in distant corners and late hours. He requires nothing as well, not even her acknowledgement. She gazes at his face (Charlie’s adolescent face, mostly), blinks, looks away. Though he wouldn’t know her anyhow.
Three dead sisters - they don’t come to call and she believes this means William is alive and well because they watch him instead. She likes to think of Missy and Samantha guiding him with auntly pride, wispy Emily both older and younger than her baby brother.
Nights at Mulder’s when she wants them, cozy with pots in the sink and cheap wine and sweaty skin and panting breath, all tangled up in his mismatched sheets. Her car parked in the dirt, wind chimes clanging on the porch. Mulder is a fully immersive material experience.
She never stays longer than a couple of days, afraid of all the gravity his possessions have. They could draw her back into their odd orbit, out of her own trajectory. She could crash on the surface of his strange planet and be marooned there again. Organic molecules need warmth and water to spark into life, and she refuses to risk nurturing anything that might die.
Scully clicks the fireplace on, taps out a grocery order. Loneliness is a choice.

okay wait everyone is doing these cute posts about their moots and so i’d like to write out what havoc a team of one of my mutuals and i would wreck if we were in the bau:
(this is me being dumb at 2 am and i’m definitely going to make some cute sort of post too but i felt like doing this)
((also this took me forever to do lmao so if there’s anyone i forgot i swear it is nothing against you i just did moots i felt like i knew well enough to explain this for))
@ellegreenawy : y’all celie and i would be an iconic team because we come up with so many good ideas but our best ideas are always in the middle of the night. so you best know if reid ain’t solving the case, celie and i crack it at 2 am. also, celie is definitely rossi’s favorite. she’s the only person he lets cook with him regularly, and i’m the one who definitely got distracted and forgot to put water in the pasta pot so i ended up setting the pasta on fire so i am banned from the kitchen most of the time (it’s not that i can’t cook, it’s that i got distracted that one time and rossi refuses to believe me). oh and her and i would definitely write a book together the way rossi did. and we’d guest lecture together too.
@babyblockcolorcat : fabs and i would def be in seasons 8-9 of cm together and we would get nothing done because this girl would not be able to function around alex blake. but also faby would rock a blazer. her and em definitely share a closet. faby around alex is like reid around practically any girl in the early seasons, and it’s kind of adorable but also the rest of us (me and the team) are standing around like “why the fuck is alex so oblivious” (of course this is an au where alex isn’t married). i mean the whole “good morning, faby!” from alex and then faby accidentally walks into a pole and spills her coffee
@reidsemily : bro bekah and i would be an elite partnership. we definitely spend our free time with penny and morgan because i feel like the four of us would be iconic together. also if we’re called in for a case in the middle of the night her and i are definitely the ones that show up and chug five cups of coffee before we can even say a word. and then someone (probably jj) is going to point out that my blazer is inside out and that bekah is wear two different shoes and we’re just going to drink another cup of coffee
@linguinereid : i would love to hear conversations between bee and reid because i’d probably learn more from them than my entire school life. bee is definitely a major part as to why we can solve all these cases, and i feel like her and i interrogating a suspect together would be interesting. i’d probably talk enough to bore the unsub to death, and then bee would just say things and psychoanalyze the suspect until they broke
@ssaemilyprentits : okay so i feel like steph and morgan have been in a prank war since she started working at the bau and somehow i got involved in it and now we’re just this chaotic mess of “ok ani wait you distract morgan and i’ll go mix salt into his coffee” and “steph keep derek busy so i can go and stick this sign that has his phone number and ‘call me for foot massages’ written on it on the back of his car”
@whiskey-fluent and @jenniferxprentiss : i wholeheartedly believe that h and ash would be the most sarcastic and upfront agents. like straight up would make the suspects tremble during interrogation. and they’d always be sent to do stuff together; they’d be the dream team. i know technically i don’t fit into this equation but like their energy together as fbi agents would be immaculate so i needed to talk about it. like that one episode where the unsub is morgan’s cousin’s husband who forced her to marry him and jj and emily walk into the interrogation room and are conversing about will and henry? yeah, that’s h and ash. i’d probably be penny in the trio.
@heat-waveee : ok i think lb and i would honestly be a very productive duo during work. like she’d def keep my procrastination in check on paperwork days and we’d be good at finding info together during cases. and lb would be great at talking to eyewitnesses and friends/family of the victim(s). but when the case is over? we’d be insane. like at dinner parties with the team, nights out at the bar- we’d be going crazy. oh also we’d be crushing on em so much
@apologetically-apologetic : so abbie and i would be great at coming up with theories because in the short amount of time i’ve talked to her we’ve had so many genius ideas. i think we’d observe crime scenes and just piggyback theories onto each other until we figure out a fairly solid one and then use evidence we find later and adjust or expand our theory and then we’d solve cases really well. also, i think if we ever got like trapped with an unsub or like taken together by an unsub we’d definitely come up with a good plan and there’s like an 85% chance that we’d be fine
@reidemandweep : roo and i would just be an organized mess tbh. our desks are for sure next to each other, and whoever comes in first makes coffee for themselves and the other person as well. we’d probably hold off on paperwork till the very last minute but turn it in right on time. i also think roo and i would make a great team when interrogating a suspect. like that one episode where jj and morgan pretend to be a couple and talk to that white supremacist guy? yeah roo and i would be the gay poc couple to annoy the unsub if they were bugged by that. also, we’d definitely be caught trash talking strauss. like “ugh she’s so annoying and messes stuff up for us a lot” and then everyone’s quiet and we’re like “she’s right behind us isn’t she”. we’d also tease rossi about dating her but in the end i don’t think we’d hate her completely because we’re nice enough to understand she’s doing her job but also we’d be like “no <3″ to most of the stuff she says
@eusuntgroot : hj and i would honestly be very nice people together i think. well, hj would be my better half. she’d be really good at talking to families of the victims, because she’s great at being empathetic and she’s so caring. the two of us would probably be sent to speak with victims and eyewitnesses because we’d be good together at calming them down and being there for them and trying to get information. also, hj and i would be great at talking an unsub down together if necessary
@agenthotchner : honestly i feel like snow and i would be really badass undercover. like i get very “entropy” vibes from the two of us. like tara and morgan vibes in that episode. snow and i would most definitely find an unsub while undercover at a bar, lure him outside, and then threaten to hit him in the face with a pair of heels as we handcuff him and lead him to the cop car
@davidrossi-ismydad : sammy and i would have such chaotic energy during paperwork days- hanging out with penelope, locking jj and emily in a room until they got their sexual tension out of the way, sammy hanging out in hotch’s office doing god knows what. sammy and i would definitely make everyone laugh whenever they needed to but sammy would also come up with some of the most genius ideas that the others wouldn’t think of. he’d would definitely be the character that at the 30 minute mark of the episode is like “maybe we’re thinking this part of the profile wrong” and coming up with the correct profile and we’d be like “yes you’re onto something”
@cinnamon-rroll : okay jemma and i would be great at stakeouts. like we’d have the snacks ready and would have the most interesting conversations while watching our surroundings from the car with binoculars. i also think we’d be good undercover, too
@spideyspencer : listen avery would also be so good at interrogating suspects. like so amazing. she’d just be so good at intimidating them and not taking their shit whatsoever. and when we’d be chasing an unsub i’d definitely chase after them and she’d find an easier route and be standing there waiting for us. she’d be putting handcuffs on the unsub and i’d be wheezing and half out of breath like “how *wheeze* did you *wheeze* get here *wheeze* so *wheeze* fast?”
@prentiss-dinozzo : i feel like noelle and i would probably be like tara together: badass but also good critical thinkers and smart. and i think we’d do similar things to what reid did: go through case files, make geographic profiles, that sort of thing. and i also think we’d be good at guest lecturing together
(not me being dumb and forgetting caitlin because i did this at literally 2 am ugh!!)
@themetaphorgirl : okay caitlin gives me very much garcia vibes and i for sure think her and i in the bau would be best friends with penny. we’d be hosting parties/dinners and coming up with fun ways for all of us to hang out and we’d just have elite energy. we definitely convinced the bau to have a family bowling night and family game night and things like that. i think we’d also be good at talking unsubs down and definitely would be the ones talking to the friends/family of the victims. also, i have a feeling that caitlin would be good at making negotiations too!

I love reading your CM meta! I especially find the Cat/Spencer stuff interesting. I 100% agree there was a shipper in the writer's room. The BTS stuff from Entropy made me think that Breen Frazier always saw Cat as a romantic/sexual foil for Spencer. He's written all the Cat centric episodes (and Zugzwang so take from that what you will)
Thank you! I like thinking about meta behind shows. Especially when trying to figure out the writers motive for doing odd, out of nowhere things.(ie Date Night kiss and Jeid confession)
Remember he also wrote the Spencer having to kiss someone evil in order to help someone he cares about. Kissing Diane to help Maeve. Kissing Cat to help Max. There’s a pattern here.
Interesting that he was co writer of ‘Saturday’ too. But none of the Jeid episodes in S14/S15. Hmmm..
I agree with you about Breen Frazier seeing Cat as a romantic/sexual foil for Spencer. Frazier liked the bad girl/good boy trope I think. Actually, like with Eddy Kitsis on ‘ONCE’, he also liked bad girl with redeemed bad guy turned good guy thing. Seems like quite a few male writers might be trying to play out some fantasies here.
The one thing that makes me come back to against what Breen was trying to slyly imply in ‘Date Night’ about Cat and Spencer being attracted to her was what she did to Diana. It would be hard to see Cat and Spencer romance after ‘Entropy’ because of what she did to Garcia but since she was one of 4/5 who stalked Garcia, I guess one could plausibly write it in a way that Cat only played a small role compared to the other assassins. Hard but not impossible.
But once Cat kidnapped Diana, any romance would have to be off the table. Not only was Cat chief instigator but it was her plan, so everything that happened to Diana is 100% on her. How could Spencer ever think of someone romantically or attracted to after what she did to his mom? This is the person he loves most in the world, who he’s taken care of, revolving his life around her and her care, how could Spencer ever like someone who’d hurt his mother? That is the demarcation line that couldn’t ever be crossed. And if it Spencer did cross it, it would be a total blow up of his character. The hatred that we saw in him choking her is not something that just goes away.
So, that’s why I think Breen Frazier did that stuff in ‘Date Night.’ He knew that if he legitimately put Spencer together with Cat especially after S12, the audience would not only be upset but realize that it was so out of character for Spencer that it would be ruined. However, that little inkling of wanting to see them together was still there so he decides to write ‘Date Night.’ He gets a Cat/Spencer date in, gets Spencer to say some stuff about thinking about her, then a kiss. And he does it in a way to cover himself from accusations that he’s making Spencer like a murderer. The writers if criticized can say, “Hey, Spencer only went on the date, only said what he needed to say to keep Cat from leaving, only kissed her or she threatened to off the family, all to save the family. “ Since, we know Spencer’s character is to do whatever he has to do to save people, it’s not out of character for him to have to do it, And the fact that it was Max’s family? Made the stakes higher and Spencer’s actions more desperate to do whatever he had to do for the family of the woman he loved. Kinda like in ‘Zugzwang’ with taking off the vest. Kinda of like a “He loves/cares about Max so much, he’d do whatever no matter how terrible to get the people she loves back.” And making it a parent as well as a child, ups the stakes than say a friend.
And for me, since Erica Messer confirmed that some on her staff were Jeid shippers that convinced her to go through with that confession, it stands to reason she would greenlight a Cat/Spencer shipper to do a storyline where it could be seen as shippy.
I also have a theory of how this is different than Emily/Doyle. With them, it’s implied a little that Emily had some feelings for Doyle, nothing explicit but an inkling. With them, back in the day, Emily didn’t have anyone she was close to, so her liking Doyle wouldn’t have been seen as weird to the audience. Basically, they portrayed her as part of a team that was only thrown together temporarily for a case, so not as close as BAU. So, a romance wasn’t seen as odd because that was her cover as well she was kinda on her own.(does this make sense?)
However, once Doyle came back in S6, the minute he threatened Emily’s BAU family, anything that she had close to feelings for Doyle dies right there. Emily had the love and support from the team and no one was going to take that away nor was Emily going to cross a line here. Even they had the BAU team be very concerned when JJ came back to inform them of Emily’s role years ago with Doyle. Especially Derek. I’ve always thought Derek’s part in this storyline was to show the audience that the writers at the time do not condone an agent with a romantic interest in a terrorist. His whole thing throughout ‘Lauren’ was to show his displeasure of Emily’s actions in regards to Doyle both in the past as well as the present. It was like he was almost both the audience viewpoint as well as writers viewpoint that they wanted to get across that they aren’t in favor of romance here.
Interesting that 2 different show runners, handled a somewhat similar type situation differently. Edward Bernero who was show runner in S6, went one way definitively with this and Erica Messer, show runner in S15, went a less definitive way.
Peace. 🙏

i actually derek morgan is an incredibly amazing character that cm did a great job on !! really long-winded explanation below
derek morgan is the most well-rounded and really well-written character.
on his rage- personally i was never disturbed or anything by his anger, it was always resolved and never overboard unlike other characters. it was normal too- we all have issues controlling rage- and its expected to get frustrated in that field of work. he never stepped past the line.
morgan is an incredibly caring and protective persom, hes always shielding those who need help especially shown in the episodes with ellie. but he knows when to step back, and let someone grow- shown with jj and reid. hes the perfect example of an “older brother” character.
his dynamic with every team member is so interesting and fun. hes a natural leader, and when he was unit chief he knew how to toe the line between leading and still being able to be himself, and keep the tone light at times. including this- its unique with every character. the way he treats penelope vs emily vs hotch vs rossi- they r all different. either a testament to the writing or shemars acting finesse. adding to this his respect for women
derek’s greatest growth through the show is with his issues trusting someone explicitly mentioned in the ny bomber episodes. he will lay his life down for his team but he would never trust anyone to do the same for him. this character arc of his is interesting to me, because when he exits the show this is not completely resolved- he goes after the unsub on his own.
say what you will, but this is realistic. he is the protector archetype, and it makes sense for him to not let that go.
however, he makes great strides in himself with this- he trusts people like spencer and jj to cover him, people he hadnt before due to their young age. he trusts them to take care of themselves and come home safely. entropy is a spencer episode, but the way derek takes the sideline through it shows that he has let go of that paranoia that he cant protect everyone around him.
derek never really struck me as tokenism by the show despite being the only cast member of color- unlike tara or matt, or even ashley (wanting to add another woman). he was never overshadowed by others on the show, and stood out as his own character. and this is incredibly clear- not about his physical strength, but his mental strength.
we have to remember 2004 when this show aired was a different time even if it was only 16 years ago. showing such a strong, brave and honorable black man was a great step they took. especially if u take into account a lot of backlash they recieved for having a black man in the cast.
