What’s an angelic being without a little body horror?
(Or, I actually inked this traditionally for once, because this manga was powerful enough to briefly drag me out of my burnout)

love how eeaao climaxed with Evelyn's whole hearted acceptance and open support of Joy being gay. starting at that put upon tolerance at the beginning and then the "you!! youre the reason my daughter is gay!" when she first meets Jobu Tupaki. obviously her marriage and her business and her father's rejection of her are also crucial to the film but when Joy and Evelyn are fighting, "stop calling me evelyn, i am your mother!"- thats not an assertion of her authority- thats saying "whoever wherever whatever you are i will love you because i choose to be your mother. of a thousand possible realities for the both of us i'm choosing you". their relationship is deeply flawed at the beginning of the film. Joy spends half of her act one scenes near tears, in turn harped on for her life choices and dismissed entirely. to go from that to being unequivocally accepted and protected- of course she runs! what do you even do with that!!! and then not dragged back or left to drift away- but followed to the point of no return and asked to stay. not just Straight Joy. not just Successful Joy. not Joy-Who-Listens-To-Her-Mom, not even Mediocre, Just-Okay Joy. any of these Joys Evelyn couldve had, any of these changes were entirely within her reach. but its tattooed college drop-out lesbian Joy who is told she's the only version of herself that her mother needs to be proud of.
Evelyn's father disowned her for marrying a man who he disapproved of. she doesnt want to risk that relationship again, between her father and her daughter, for Joy yes as well as for herself. one of the first jumps Evelyn makes is one where she stayed at home, listened to her father, and the world is her goddamn oyster. "i saw my life without you. it was beautiful, i wish you could have seen it." but we also see a world where she is blinded as a child and her father supports her and her opera career for the rest of her life. she's worn down over the years, yes but her first biggest bad-turn trauma is Gong Gong telling her "i am not your father". and she stares down the possibility of that again and proceeds to step up to bat and step up as Joy's mom. how different is "it's protocol" to "it's tradition"? kill your daughter shes a monster kill your daughter its for the good of us all- evelyn doesnt kill joy but she still wants to change her. the movie doesnt end until she chooses that for all her flaws none of them matter. all that matters is joy.

BOnus more human looking version just because I Can
Ok bye now guys I have to go back to my full time job of being feral about her and violently killing anyone who lays a finger on her <3

Can you believe I like these two for ONE YEAR?? Because I can't!
If you want to read the big, emotional description I put on Instagram, here you go:
I'm a few days earlier, but it has been… a year since I started liking these two-
Maybe it doesn't sound like a big deal, but I NEVER had a hyperfixation that lasted for so long, it's usually only some months. But here I am, drawing PB and Diane as usual. So this is a simple and self indulgente post, the first slide is me redrawing my first drawings of them!
Being totally honest, I don't even know why I like them that much. It all started with "they have the most interesting and well written relationship I've ever seen" and soon turned into "I need to draw them kissing".
I know they aren't the most usual ship, but I'm very thankful that more people like me drawing them, especially with how they make me a lot happier in general.
Funny enough, the only problem I ever had shipping them was a few weeks ago when I found out someone reposted my art on Reddit of all places. This explains the second slide, because it was most comments it got, saying how much my art was weird, gross and disturbing. According to them, I draw Mr Peanutbutter more like a dog (?) so I shouldn't draw him kissing Diane…. they also didn't like my art style because I'm a furry :/ what surprises me is that they were fans of the show as well, complaining about me drawing a canon couples that kissed on the show and were married for four seasons…
But oh well, it doesn't make me as upset as before and it surely won't make me stop drawing them. But PLEASE, don't repost my art of Reddit lmao
Anyways, I love them <33

okay wait laughingstock concept Incoming: so im imagining some of the neighbors (maybe Julie & Frank) noticing that Barnaby & Howdy are a lil fruity, yk yk. and Julie's like damn, i guess we have to play matchmaker here.
so naturally they wind up getting the whole neighborhood involved. everybody's a wingman here. Poppy's dropping hints when Howdy drops off groceries, Wally is constantly asking Barnaby to go get him things from the bodega, etc etc. Howdy and Barnaby are facing this sudden change in town-wide behavior with slight concern and bemusement
eventually - lets say Julie, Sally, and Wally - get Barnaby into the bodega and then abruptly leave like "don't have too much fun without us you two *wink wink nudge nudge*". once they're gone (read: very obviously hiding outside & watching through the window) Barnaby & Howdy turn to each other like:
Barnaby: you think we should tell them we're already married?
Howdy: let them have their fun - they'll figure it out eventually

i know Shiro got absolutely fucked over by the writing team by the end but also like his existence is such a big fuck you to everything. The universe is trying to kill him with disease and alien abductions and gladiator fights and war conquerors and witcges and so much other bullshit and succeeded and the writers had slated him to die since first draft and yet he still said "no thank you" and lived to get happily gay married. Like the absolute spite in his existence and continued survival. Inspirational. Love that for him.
