it doesn't even need to be said at this point but it was such cold butchery of the source material to put Blue Darth Maul into the tv show and make half of the plot and conflict about How To Kill This Guy

Okay, homies, have I got a story for you! 😂😂😂
So, li'l while back, I ordered myself some new loungewear to get me through some tough times, including some pajama pants with the print pictured here.
My four-year-old, who has been informed, and has finally accepted, that he is a Baby Goku, but doesn't yet understand what "chibi" is, saw my pajamas and went, "THAT'S BABY GOKU! I'M BABY GOKU!" and I was like, "Correct, young man." He then made some inquiries about the two other fellows, having not seen Dragon Ball Z, on account of he's four years old, and I do not want him imitating that behavior, because he ain't got but maybe half a lick of sense on a good day, and 0% accurate estimation of danger.
With no knowledge of the source material--and I really wanna emphasize this--he went on to inform me of the following:
THAT'S BABY VEGETA. VEGETA IS VERY FIERCE!!!
BABY PICCOLO IS SERIOUS.
VEGETA GETS MAD. HE YELLS A LOT.
I then tried to explain Vegeta's character arc to my four-year-old in an age-appropriate way. Which kinda went like, "Uh...yeah...well...uh. When he first shows up and meets everybody, Vegeta's...a bully. And he wants to fight. But...he...learns...better? And they solve some problems together, and after a while, he's their friend???" Which resulted in:
THAT'S BABY GOKU. HE'S MY FRIEND. HES MY BEST FRIEND!
PURPLE PICKLES IS GOOD. AND GREEN...GREEN PICKLES ARE VERY GOOD FOR YOU!
And I was like, "Ya darn right, homie. That's what's up." 😂😂😂
Because HE'S NOT WRONG!!! THAT'S AN EXTREMELY 💯 TAKE!!! And I'm adopting "Purple Pickles" as my headcanon for Piccolo's online handle for his troll accounts that he uses to troll Vegeta, who is an absolute Boomer On The Internet, on the internet.
I freakin' love kids, man.

I'm seeing some frustration over fandom creatives expressing anger or distress over people feeding their work into ChatGPT. I'm not responding to OP directly because I don't want to derail their post (their intent was to provide perspective on how these models actually work, and reduce undue panic, which is all coming from a good place!), but reassurances that the addition of our work will have a negligible impact on the model (which is true at this point) does kind of miss the point? Speaking for myself, my distress is less about the practical ramifications of feeding my fic into ChatGPT, and more about the principle of someone taking my work and deliberately adding it to the dataset.
Like, I fully realize that my work is a drop in the bucket of ChatGPT's several-billion-token training set! It will not make a demonstrable practical difference in the output of the model! That doesn't change the fact that I do not want my work to be part of the set of data that the ChatGPT devs use for training.
According to their FAQ, ChatGPT can and will use user input to train itself. The terms and conditions explicitly state that they save your chats to help train and improve their models. (You can opt-out, but sharing is the default.) So if you're feeding a fic into ChatGPT, unless you've explicitly opted out, you are handing it to the ChatGPT team and giving them permission to use it for training, whether or not that was your intent.
Now, will one fic make a demonstrable difference in the output of the model? No! But as the person who spent a year and a handful of months laboring over my fic, it makes a difference to me whether my fic, specifically, is being used in the dataset. If authors are allowed to have a problem with the ChatGPT devs for scraping millions of fics without permission, they're also allowed to have a problem with folks handing their individual fics over via the chat interface.
I do want to add that if you've done this to a fic, please don't take this as me being upset with you personally! Folks are still learning new information and puzzling out what "good" vs. "bad" use is, from an ethical standpoint. (Heck, my own perspective on this is deeply based on my own subjective feelings!) And we certainly shouldn't act like one person feeding a fic into ChatGPT has the same practical negative impact, on a broad societal scale, as a team using a web crawler to scrape five billion pieces of artwork for Stable Diffusion.
The point is that fundamentally, an ethical dataset should be obtained with the consent of those providing the data. Just because it's normalized for our data to be scraped without consent doesn't make it ethical, and this is why ChatGPT gives users the option to not share data— there is actually a standardized way (robots.txt) for website servers to set policies for how bots/crawlers can interact with them, for exactly this reason— and I think fandom artists and authors are well within their rights to express a desire for opting out to be the socially-respected default within the fandom community.

writing chell as a woman who has problems that are not of Aperture origin really makes the chelldos work for me, ngl. like, we all know what the fuck is wrong with GLaDOS, but chell??? well, i gave her some Issues™️, and its perfect (to me)
and it's not like i had to conjure up the possibility out of thin air. like... why the hell would someone so damned determined to keep moving forward go down into Aperture, a place that clearly is designed to Kill People, and sign up for testing? she literally didn't respond to the question of "will anyone miss you or come looking for you when you're gone"?! and then to not say a DAMN thing during everything that occurs in p1/2?!? who does that...? Someone with a past.

Full disclosure I'm a couple episodes behind in WWW, so I'm not 100% on every thing that's being discoursed about, but I've seen enough that I just want to remind people/beg people to remember:
You are watching The Nuance Show, DMed by Mr. Philosophical Nuance and played by Notable Lovers of Nuance.

In “dnp react to every pinof #2” when Phil looks at pinof6 phil and says “I feel like this guy is me, d’you know what I mean? I don’t feel like I’m not totally relating anymore” he’s talking about 2014 Phil, a Phil who was 27 years old.
Later, in “dnp react to every pinof #3” Dan looks at pinof10 and says “You know when you were saying, you say pinof6 and you were like ‘that’s me!’ This is me!” He’s talking about 2018 Dan, a Dan who was also 27 years old!
Now I’m not wholly certain what to conclude with this, that their brains had stopped cooking and therefore they as current adults were able to recognize it, or that they’re once again true companions through life, or something else entirely, but it’s certainly interesting

After reading and watching several adaptations, I have come to the conclusion that Quincey gets much more respect than Jonathan. Yes he appears much less, but he gets his heroic sacrifice when he does instead of getting bastardised. Three times I have seen him be the one who kills Dracula without Jonathan. In two of those he has the kukri.
Also idk if vampire Quincey is underappreciated, there is a novel all about him.
And in this one Jonathan is revealed to have been a cowardly cheater all along.

You know. Sometimes I think I might be going too overindulgent with my Harker Horrors and lavishing of attention on my favorite special little haunted gothic heroine lad.
And then I get lovely reminders like these that not only am I not being indulgent, I have to actively burn every daydream of an inhibition I have as a writer to unfuck 126 years' worth of doing the whole cast dirty, but Jonathan Harker the absolute worst.
