Trolls pretending to be nice, and nice people pretending to be trolls
As an author trying to promote her independently published novel on a clock-sounding app ticking away towards monetizing our attention and its purchasing power more and more openly, it's rare that a video of mine gets more than 500 views despite my nearly 80,000 followers. I did have a video recently get 'big' (around 100k views in 24 hours or so), and it was, of course, about shonen anime and the dearth of enjoyable ones recently made, in my opinion. I am a pretty lesbian girl with purple hair, so whenever I make any content about my opinions on male-targeted anime, I get heated responses. Death and rape threats in quantities large enough that I've privated my channel for three months are reactions I've gotten from the community at large, and nothing really dents your self-confidence after that, so I was ready for that as I waded through over a thousand comments to farm for content that I could somehow, in some way, relate back to my novels. To my absolute pleasant surprise, most of the comments were very respectful, even when disagreeing vehemently with me! I was able to have fun with replying to as many as I feasibly could, giving my opinions on different shows and, finally, someone asks the golden question: "if you think you can do better, why don't you?" They were intending to be condescending and a little snide, but my eyes lit up like a cat at Christmas lights and I immediately replied with a video to the effect of: "I'm so glad you asked! I can do better, and here is where you can find me doing better in all of the genres I'm critiquing plus a few more." The response in the comments of that video were overwhelmingly positive. "This sounds so fun!" and "Can you give me a link to copy/paste?" and "When is this coming out?" I got a few sales out of it even. Thank you, catty internet troll! From that video, I got a series of comments essentially telling me to check my DMs, from a 25-year-old amateur beatboxing guy. I don't accept unsolicited messages willy-nilly, but when I checked my 'message requests,' I found this guy essentially saying my work was awful, but he was going to give me five stars as an Amazon review anyways, so I could grow my influence. I laughed and ignored the message. Two hours later, this guy sends a second message saying he "thought about it some more" and was actually proud of me, saying that the flaws he had previously pointed out could be workshopped into a passable narrative voice and, for an amateur author, I was doing pretty good.
Beloved friends, I have been writing for 15 years. I have written over 70 short stories and eight or so novels, with frequent workshopping from other professional and academic authors. I have a degree in English and Creative Writing.
That all to say, this guy was not getting under my skin, because I know my writing is good and that guy is just a dick explaining my own field to me. Whatever. I laughed about it with some other writing friends. Later, in the comments of that same video, I got a commenter who called me, "cringe," and "hateful." These comments stuck out because they felt strangely dissonant for the video they were posted under. There was no reference to what was cringe, and the video is expressly kind in tone and content. Someone else commented asking them, "what do you mean?" and the troll replied, "just watch her other videos" while calling me hateful again. I saw the same account post similarly rude comments under several of my other videos. All of them had the same general theme: something that was not, in all actuality, very mean or based in reality, but would make great rebuttal fodder where I could paint myself as a poor, sweet victim of a cruel smear campaign. Not just that, they were liking several videos too! As I said, I've experienced hatewaves, so I can recognize them, and this was decidedly not that. No, this person, the best I can tell, is trying to help me and my content by getting people to rush to my defense! It seems to be a burner account, with no followers or following, so there's no way to tell if it's someone I know, but what a strangely kind thing to do!
Keep on trucking, you kind little troll account! And to anyone reading this, be aware that these algorithms on these clock apps farm negative content, so while I can find the beauty in it, please release yourself from the expectation that it must be so enjoyable.

okay putting my shipping heart away this is so interesting to me like he starts off thinking 4 is a loser and makes him his rival then gets jealous he has these friends and he isnt apart of them. We know SMG3 is lonely and lost as he doesn't know his purpose before becoming lord of the graveyard now being apart of the crew and now knowing who is he, SMG3 is much happier and closer to the crew. But the way he writes this feels like he likes the close contact with 4 and while he doesnt want to admit it could it be he legit does have romantic feelings? idk i feel these past episodes and this part really gets me thinking they have something here to really make smg34 canon naturally and not have the way they act with each other be to different might go more into this later.

I guess what I can say is I did a OC drawing challenge that showed some old ocs of mine. I guess the "oldest OC" and the "most complex backstory OC" would qualify as "forgotten to time"..

Not to shame some baby bats but oh man am I tired of seeing online newcomers to the industrial scene not being able to conceptualize the musicians as actual real living people who have endured real hardship and instead fandomizing them and treating them like silly little characters. And Iโm not even talking about like real person fiction Iโm talking stuff like making extremely inappropriate jokes at the expense of the musicians, often to their damn faces. Just saw someone tag Ogreโs personal Instagram in a joke about Al Jourgensenโs IV drug use. What the fuck is wrong with you. I still like see red with anger when I remember stumbling into someoneโs Nivek Ogre roleplay blog where they used DRGโs OVERDOSE as a point of drama IN THEIR KINK ROLEPLAY. I fucking hope none of you watch your loved ones fall apart and eventually die from drug addiction or god forbid suffer from it yourself. And itโs not just that; Iโll never forget when those posts about Skuppyโs music being used at Gitmo were circulating as if it was just some quirky thing. Posts like โlol imagine being a war prisoner and suddenly Assimilate starts playingโ as if that shit doesnโt suck hardcore and wasnโt the absolute antithesis of what Skinny Puppy has always fought for which is pacifism and equality and the end of war and violence and brutality. The people being tortured at Gitmo are real people and Skinny Puppy was reasonably devastated by the situation. Spamming public tags on IG with terminally online often very sexual jokes about these guys, me having to wade through โI want Raymond Watts to vore me XD jdhgdkdksjdhโ in the damn KMFDM tag. Seeing a 17 year old comment on a popular musicianโs selfie in eyeliner saying he looked โqueerโ and being like โI just know you donโt use he/him pronounsโ like that shit IS WEIRD. THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE!!
IDK man. This is not a fandom, it is a real community that these guys are part of. I am friends with some of these musicians and/or their friends IN REAL LIFE because I live in the same city as them and go to the same events as them. I havenโt done anything special other than be around them and be chill. Tons of them are my Facebook friends or my mutuals on Instagram or theyโre my friendsโ Facebook friends and mutuals on Instagram. Iโve had some of my favorite musicians follow me back COMPLETELY unexpectedly. Iโve heard โI recognize you from onlineโ when Iโve met some of my favorite people in the scene, even if we hadnโt directly interacted beforeโฆ MULTIPLE times. Iโve made posts about a band and then saw the fucking band repost it to a different site. Iโve seen my blog get linked in the official Skinny Puppy group that the band moderates. I also know like three separate situations where somebodyโs publicly posted RPF was SENT TO THE BAND MEMBERS. Iโm relatively neutral (or at least have a lot of nuance) about RPF but some fucking self awareness would be nice; these guys are NOT that โfamous,โ they are actively running their social media pages, they donโt have PR guys, they are lurking social media, interacting with fans, their friends are normal people in the scene. It just feels so disrespectful and out of touch. Did you know that one time somebody made a joke about Ogre being on drugs in the Skinny Puppy Facebook group and Ogre himself logged in for the first time in awhile to say it wasn't funny and was painful for him to see NOT because of his own past with drugs but because it reminded him of the amount of friends heโs had die from addiction and overdose? That was a real moment that happened. It isnโt funny.
I just keep seeing this breed of newcomers who get super into the identity of being โan industrial fanโ (usually with all these edgy extras like โfucked up sicko dykefag rivethead freakโ) who are coming into it straight out of like, the Danganrompa or Saw or whatever fandom and cannot conceptualize the fact that this isnโt a โfandom,โ they donโt know how to talk about it like itโs not a fandom, they talk about how the musicians are โso old nowโ which is just so insulting (you should be BEGGING the universe to be so kind as to allow you to live to be grey and wrinkly and still making art that you love!) or make jokes at the expense of the traumas theyโve endured, they donโt seek out more obscure or more recent or more local music even though THAT is what is keeping the scene alive. it has real life spaces that the musicians theyโre idolizing are frequenting and it is very very obvious that they are not going outside or engaging with the scene at all, they arenโt viewing it as this huge community of people who are all congregating together over their love for this music. Theyโre treating the musicians like these crazy characters but they are real people and their traumas and struggles and โweirdโ behavior is what brought them to this type of music to begin with! Theyโre making posts about how musicians just arenโt โweirdโ anymore while completely ignoring the decades of recent incredible music from artists trying desperately to survive in this world IN THE SCENE THEY CLAIM TO BE PART OF!! You are not a depraved freak punk rivethead faggot you are a 20 year old introvert that listens to NIN, KMFDM, and Skinny Puppy while not supporting the scene in any tangible way whatsoever and talking about the people who created the genre like theyโre commodifiable fictional characters. And itโs not a question of โyou donโt listen to enough music to be legit!โ I love baby bats and newcomers and I absolutely adore seeing people get into this music and find solace and community within it. Industrial music saved my life and I was once the newcomer just discovering this stuff. itโs a question of โyou are being disrespectful and out of touch while acting like you know what more than you really do.โ Go out to a goth club. Talk to people. Sing along in a crowd to your favorite songs. Type in Bandcamp Dot Com right now and discover a new artist. Buy an album and tip them. That r/LSD comment where the guy said โkeep it chill or suffer the consequences.โ

Introducing: The OtherWorld
The OtherWorld is a "DND-inspired roleplaying game" that I've been wanting to start with writeblr. Here are the basics of the game...
Title: The OtherWorld
Genre: Horror
Central Themes: mental illness, perception vs truth, the need for control vs how much we actually have, the fear of not having control

The basic rundown of the game is that there are people that are deemed "mentally ill" for various reasons (similar to the real world - hallucinations, talking to themselves, spouting "nonsense"), but it turns out that these people aren't as "crazy" as they may seem and instead, they have abilities people without mental illnesses don't have. They can see, hear things that they can't, etc.
So, one particular person (run by me) has been spouting lately about how the world is a story, written by these evil overlords and nothing is really what it seems.
Of course, many people write them off but they're so convincing, some actually believe.
Writers are the Big Bad in this story. I will be the actual Big Bad (because running game), but I will also let any player that wishes to be a character in the game also be one. I will give you the choice if you want me to write you or if you want to be your own character.
Of course, with one of the big themes being lack of control, writers will have a lot more control than the characters in the story.
So how is this inspired by DND?
Here's the gameplay that I envision.
I write a scene. Characters will take their turns deciding how they want to interact with the scene. I roll a die (or two), which will determine how successful the action is. If it ends up being too small a roll, then the character will do something else or will be evaded in their action.
NOW.
Each character will have their own "success roll number." This will be determined by a roll at the beginning of the game.
Since I'm doing the rolls, I'll let the players decide if they want me to announce the numbers that are rolled and what the roll needed for each character is or not. Full transparency is what I want. :)
Ummm, each writer will also have their own number but it'll be lower than the characters (or should be). I'll probably roll one die for the writers and two for the characters or something. Idk yet.
Anywho!
I'll probably give writers like a few days to a week to pick what their characters do (I'll tag the writer who's up to make sure they know they're up)... and if they don't reply within the time designated, they'll be auto skipped and it'll go to the next character.
I'll probably have 2 taglists. One is the players and one for anyone that just wants to read it. :]
I'll be running this game on this blog. I need more original writing content on here.
Oh! And when making your characters, you don't need to give them stats or anything but you do need to let me know if your character is a believer or a skeptic (do they believe what the mentally ill say or do they not).

The amount of progress I made since being diagnosed with autism, depression and anxiety. Even if I stopped going to therapy, I feel like the diagnosis (esspecially the autism one) shed so much light on my life, and I was able to makes the world around me (even if just at home) more confortable for myself by understanding myself more and adjusting the way I do things so it's easier on me.

Hmmmmm let's see- the Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children series, obviously, but I also LOVE The Book Thief, American Gods and definetely Warrior Cats (I only read the first arc, so Idk how good's the rest xD)

I don't like a ton of bands/artists specifically, the only band off the top of my head I would say I like that I have heard other people say they don't is AJR.
A childhood memory that you remember vividly:
I remember we had a stump that was pretty wide and flat in our yard I would get dressed up and have tea parties out there with my little siblings. I remember the dress I used to wear and the texture of the stump and the breeze on my face and the pink of my teacups.
Least favorite animal and why:
After spending a few years in proximity with my brothers ferrets I can safely say I will never own one myself.
Hot fandom take:

Sometimes! I wear earrings mostly, but recently a friend made me a bead bracelet spelling out "independent variables" and it is my most treasured possession.

And may I say that you've just opened a whole new can of worms in my head about Muriel's curse and the myrrh thing?! I mean, let's say there wasn't space or time for Muriel to plan things out with Asra ahead of time, what if Muriel spend several weeks wondering if he wanted Asra to remember him? Finding relief in a place his trauma couldn't reach him for the first time in years, and having to decide between having a completely fresh start without his oldest friend, and keeping this oldest friend around, even if that means keeping the memories of his past life around too -
Or what if he had to figure out the myrrh issue himself, and there was a time when he wanted Asra to remember him but needed to figure out how? Did he do that with Asra's help, showing up at the shop door like "you don't recognize me right now, but I'm your oldest friend and I need your help to figure out how to let select people remember me. Oh and as proof that I'm not lying, here's a list of all your most embarrassing moments since you were seven that I was there for."

10. What work was the quickest to write?
It was either closure or the lack thereof, which I technically wrote 2 drafts of and posted over a weekend but I did have that idea kicking around since 2021, so from concept to post it was probably either with teeth we've come this far or I feel like I'm borrowing all my time, because I came up with the ideas for whumptober and finished them. All the others existed as idea bulletpoints or little jotted down paragraphs before Sept 1 but those two were completely contained.
11. What work took you the longest to write?
While the dark ocean duology did take me all summer after I'd initially thought it would take a couple weeks tops, the winner has to be the first chapter of omens and all kinds of signs which was at 60% done for 2 years. I honestly don't know that I would have finished it if I hadn't decided to post it serially, so yeah little plug for writing serially. It was really just to get back on the horse after having an off year last year.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I really like this bit where Greez is like 'wtf' in 'I feel like I'm borrowing all my time':
This all feels like an overwhelming, insurmountable task. Greez wishes he hadnโt been chosen for it. He knows how important it is, wants desperately to find the kid before he can be hurt, but it really feels beyond him. He misses the Mantis, misses the rest of the crew, even the little droid and the stowaway bogling. He misses feeling like he understands his place in the universe. His mind struggles to keep up with how long itโs been. A couple of hours? Days? Five years but wound in reverse? He knows it shouldnโt feel like five years, but it kind of does. It feels like the warmth and safety of home is something he lost long ago, or perhaps never had. Now that Calโs missing from his proper place, it all feels like none of it ever actually happened. It both exists in his memory and doesnโt, like a distant dream. Greez shivers. All of this is very, very wrong. Cere is staring at the fire again, an inscrutable look on her face.
Greez decides to fill the silence with: โI guess we have to hope they didnโt take him to Nur.โ
Cere whirls on him abruptly. โOf course we have to hope they didnโt take him to Nur.โ
โI just mean thatโฆโ Greez swallows. Itโs started raining harder, raising more steam and smoke from the fires. The smoke makes his eyes sting. Cere waits for an explanation, brow furrowed. โDonโt we have to avoidโฆI just meanโฆyou shouldnโt meet yourself, right? Thatโs one of the rules of this sort of thing, isnโt it? At least, it was in the cheesy dramas my grandmother was always watchingโฆโ
โOh.โ Cere turns back to the fire. โI hadnโt considered that.โ
Apologies for the length of it but I like it both for the 1) 'it shouldn't feel like five years but it does' bit, just leaning into time travel being WEIRD. Also I think I slipped up a couple times responding to comments and referred to 'timelines' but as best I can come up with for fitting time travel into SW worldbuilding....there are no alternate timelines really. Because time isn't really...real. So Greez is right, once things have started changing, they change in the future as well so it all both does and doesn't exist at the same time...idk if I ever went further on the time travel concept it would be along these lines, rather than having distinct alternate timelines.
2) the very human moment of filling an awkward silence with the exact wrong thing. XD It's such a little thing but I ended up LOVING the "Greez decided to fill the silence with" dialogue tag. XD
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
I'm going to answer this one with a screenshot of my ideas list I found while cleaning it up this weekend:
I don't want to sound like too much of a curmudgeon (though the ship has probably said on that one)*, but I can't stress enough how surprising it was that one of my biggest 'nope, would never write' became one of my favorite fics of the year. Now I feel like I can't said I'd never write something. Growth?
(*and just to stress, like...for me writing/reading, don't take this personally. I use the exclude tags but please don't take this as like a judgement, I just have never really liked them and got a bit grumpy about just how popular they were when I came back to reading Star Wars fic a couple years ago)

Why do they keep making Roy repeatedly behave violently toward Jamie when he has both witnessed Jamie being abused and comforted him afterwards. Itโs soooo out of character imo and also completely unnecessary. He doesnโt really do it to this extent with anyone else either, just yells, which is weird because why are u targeting the one person that you should be most considerate towards (not that itโs okay to be violent to anyone but you get me). It just annoys me seeing so many people giggling about Roy charging toward Jamie in the locker room and making fun gif parallels from season one. It was never funny idk
yeah gotta be honest really donโt love that! like Really Donโt Love It! im like- okay itโs a comedy show thatโs fine, heโs The Angry One thatโs also fine itโs like that sometimes. things are gonna have a different tone by nature and thereโs limited narrative space for different things to be focused on and unpacked and whatnot but this one is real weird for me and i just canโt get my brain around it. it feels so specifically contradictory and likeโฆ regressive for roy personally? i just canโt imagine him just being cool with repeatedly acting like that after whatโs happened with them. i dooooonโt think weโre at the โiโll fucking kill youโ point with them anymore and it was kind of bizarre that it passed completely without comment or reaction like. from roy himself. i like him a lot and im not unaware of his flaws - heโs got some pretty significant ones! they make him a far more interesting character! - but that just felt incorrect for the kind of person he is with the priorities he has and way he feels about leadership and influence and Jamie Specifically.
maybe theyโre gonna get into his anger this season as a Thing or an Arc for him! maybe not. still, i just donโt think heโd be reacting that extremely with jamie now that theyโre not actively at each otherโs throats and especially not after what happened in 2x08 which had bizarrely little impact onโฆ. anything, for having been a massively effecting and frankly traumatizing event for everyone involved. iโd so much rather see him make different choices and have that say something about his character and evolution here on the accountability show, like. it was a weird and out of pace step back.
especially when the resolution of royโs heightened behaviour that episode was centred on his issue with trent as far as ted being like โyour ego is an issue right now.โ which was a GREAT sequence and was fabulously executed as a subplot and i LOVED everything with and about roy and trent but left the explosive reactions to jamie un-commented on. I think when I was talking to a friend about this I repeatedly put it in the words of โitโs a bit muchโ
which is why i am now naturally neck deep in an episode tag fic about this very thing XD like maybe theyโll address it in the future! but im gonna get out some thoughts on it now. also - im not really involved with the fandom directly, just some buddies and lovely people who send me messages (like you!! thank you!!!) so i havenโt seen general reactions but itโs like. yeah. have a hard time finding that one funny, personally! i saw an interesting comparison shot of jamieโs reaction to him specifically and how different it is now but like. letโs dig into that a bit, hence the fic
anyways. love this show very much and overall think that was a home run of a knockout episode but that particular bit really bothered me and itโs good to know i donโt just have a really specific bone to pick XD or if i do itโs not just me!

Why THANK YOU for le tea. I happen to be an avid tea drinker (Black tea, 5 sugars and French vanilla creamer)
Anywho, onto these asks:
1. Steak and cheese quesadilla with chips and queso blanco.
2. I think it's a nice lifestyle, but personally not for me. I'm a meat eater 100%.
3. Not many colors, but I suppose neon blue. Especially on neon signs. It's so bright but dark it assaults my eyeballs.
4. Hm...possibly ghosts and demons. Spirits in general.
5. Potato chips!
6. Yes, it's a fitness watch too! It helps track my calories, heart rate, and steps.
7. Octopi/squids! Squishy, sloshy, tentacle bois!

1. Are you named after anyone?
I keep saying if I do anything noteworthy enough in my life to deserve a wikipedia page, someone has to add me to List of things named after Bernhard Riemann - Wikipedia, so... yes.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Yesterday night, and also, longer ago than I remember. Are the tears mine if the sadness isn't? It be like that sometimes.
3. Do you have kids?
No, and thank the powers that be (mostly contraception) for that!
4. What sports do you play/have played?
No real sports, unless highschool PE counts. I was a fervent and pretty skilled skier for a while but my partner is afraid of skiing and its too expensive to go on my own, so it's been years since I did it.
5. Do you use sarcasm?
Not as much as you'd think. I'm a painfully sincere person much of the time.
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
I hate to be *that* person, but... their vibe. Fake car salesperson smiles, awkward "haha we will ignore that!" silences, confrontational high-schooler convo style... Some people just have fucky energy, idk what else to say. That said, my actual opinion of people takes a while to form -it's like a committee vote more or less.
7. What's your eye colour?
Blue-green
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings all the way. I can watch unhappy endings if the movie is aesthetic(TM) or it's more about the art or history of the film than the narrative, but if I'm immersing myself in a story-story, the person(s) the narrative makes me root for better fucking make it to a happy end.
I'm very selective about scary movies: they need to be aesthetic, and satisfying.
9. Any talents?
... not... really? I kinda struggle with linking my qualities to "talents". I don't have many (if any) things I'm just "naturally good" at; even skill sets I'm now proud of were not something I ever had a natural aptitude for, and if I developed a skill it was 99% of the time out of necessity rather than enjoyment.
I guess I have... shockingly broad bandwidth for other people's issues. Like... interpersonal exhaustion? I don't know her, man. Mostly due to a combination of voyeuristic enjoyment of knowing and understanding things about others, my sense of empathy being almost entirely generated through fine-grained psych analysis rather than instinct, and the *very* odd given that my own personality temporarily stabilizes when exposed to interpersonal input. I'm not sure that's a talent so much as a condition, though xD

11. What are your hobbies?
At the moment, mostly writing Tron fanfiction. I also draw (sometimes), paint and kitbash Warhammer 40k minis (been a while), do metalwork (I need a new welding helm T_T), do gothic and fetish modelling, thrift and collect things for my house, etcetera. I cycle through hobbies mostly. Writing is my most stable one -I dare say I keeps me sane.
12. Do you have any pets?
I have a cat! Her name is Meoi (Quenya for "Cat", in honour of Huan and terrible Feanorian naming traditions -retired Silmarillion fan here)
13. How tall are you?
1m70 but most people assume I'm a good bit taller because I'm broad-shouldered and always in 17cm platform stilettos.
14. Favourite subject in school?
Oof. Tough one. I've been out of school for a good long while. The person I was in high-school would have picked physics, followed closely by math. Leaving the following period in the middle (lalala), at uni *in the major I actually graduated from*, my favourites were Architectural Theory, Medieval Image Culture, and Visual Analysis.
15. Dream job?
Oof again. Opinions divided on this one.
I like to say my dream job needs to meet the following criteria:
- I am competent at the job and reasonably regularly get this confirmed by others
- Every day at work I know largely what is expected of me, and what is expected fully falls within my capacity to deliver.
- I have tangible, well-described tasks and goals and never have to "be proactive about finding more work" or "try to look more productive".
- I have good coworkers I get along with, at least professionally.
- No extraneous admin tasks or timesheet micromanagement.
- GOOD PAY
If I'm really ambitious, I would add to that:
- I'm an expert (or just really, really good) at it.
But let's be honest, actual dream jobs Riemann over here has dreamed of having or pursuing? Interior designer/stylist, professional fetish performer/pro-domme, and Enterprise IT Architect.
Yeah.

I would like to pretend I'm neutral about age gap but I'm not. I do like age gap in fics a lot, but at the same time, it still needs an additional something to be perfect. On its own, it's good but not a 100 %.
Codependency: +10
Now that's a different story. I'll happily devour any fic with this tag/trope, and then read it agian for good measure. Honestly, I don't even care how well it's written, I just need more of this in my life. For personal reasons.
Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +9, -10
Breaking this up into two because I LOVE possessiveness in fics but jealousy is a big NO THANK YOU for me. I've had enough of that in real life. But fictional possessiveness/obsession is sexy.

Very neutral about this.

Very meh for me. It can make for a good story, but it is not something I actively seek out.

2022 End of the Year Fic Review
The wonderful @underragingwaves tagged me, thank you love! (I put the longest part under a cut)
1. What is your AO3 account?
for the vikings fandom it's my pseud vikingstrash.
2. How many words did you write total in 2022?
117.233 *whistles* not too bad if one considers what a year it's been.
3. How many fics did you publish in 2022? How many multichapters vs oneshots?
39 one shots and 2 multichapter. All Hail the One-shots!
4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?
Longest was Kings of Kattegat with 39,878 words and the shortest Story as old as Time with 119 words.
5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic?
Most popular (going by subscriptions, hits, comments, kudos and bookmarks) has to be my VBB entry Kings of Kattegat. Personally, the most self-indulgent fic I ever wrote.
Least popular is Sweat. I guess it would be a lot more popular if it wasn't hidden behind the AO3 log in. And also if it had full on smut and not just teasing, but oh well, I like it and in the end, that's all that matters xD
6. What fic didnโt perform as well as you thought it would?
Huh, that's a weird thing to think of, I never really give it much thought if my writing is going to be popular or not so that thought of a fic not "perfoming well" is kinda...absurd to me. Anyway, if I had to take a guess, I'd say Greedy Gods? While it does have a lot of hits and a couple kudos, it's weird to me that for a fandom with so many people claiming they want more fic about the female characters and how much they love Aslaug, there was not as much love for it as I would assume. Must be a me-problem.
7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?
Basically anything I wrote for D. P. - Deserter Pursuit. I didn't think there would be enough people in said fandom to read, kudo and comment, but was positively surprised.
8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022?
For Vikings: Valhalla, Daughter of the Fearless. I loved giving Altรถra more background story and this glimpse of her relationship to Freydis. It was fun to write.
For Vikings, Strung up, Tongue-Tied. I mean....sub!Hvitserk restrained and dom!Amma playing with him? Ubbe observing, just being present without doing anything besides kissing Amma? Yeah, I loved that one. It's full of tension.
For D. P. - Deserter Pursuit, Pity. My dumb ass actually made it a published WIP because there was more to tell and I liked it a lot. Only the Gods know if I will actually write more though xD
9. What was your favorite fic that somebody else wrote in 2022?
Well, for someone who couldn't be paid to read other people's fics, I managed to read quite a lot in 2022 for free. Mind boggling, I know. But here go my favs:
Gotta start with Not A Fairytale by underragingwaves, because...have you read that fic? It's really a fun read (for those who like crime stuff which is basically exactly what I love) and promising a bigger universe underneath that small treat she wrote.
Will totally never stop making hearteyes at Twice Now by ritual-unions. Love how Kara (heh) is so clumsy and unable to function in the real world and the way Ubbe basically just watches and smiles to himself, before his eye-roll moment that will make him intervene. I also love myself some good hurt and gosh, this is gonna hurt so damn bad at the end and I will love every second of it.
There were a couple to pick from and it was hard to choose, but when someone can make me read an Ivar fic, then it says a lot about that persons writing skill. The Mental Tyrant by grimeundglow deserves so much more love than it has been given.
Reactions Of Your Kind by Ulfrsmal was my fav of him in 2022, but only because I didn't really get to read the rest of his fics xD I'm sure there are more gems in his list, but this one stood out to me because...Hvitty and Ubbe ๐ฅบ
A Prize of Battle by Mercurygray, is absolute Emma/Canute goodness and Idk what else to say, because this womans writing skills are beyond anything I could muster, so hearteyes from afar will have to do for now.
For Mince Pie by emma-ofnormandy, another author that captures Emma and Canute's relationship so well and it's so fluffy, I wanna hold it really tightly against my chest.
And last but not least The Queen of Kattegat by northernxstories! I will remain deeply impressed by how effortlessly she managed to pull me into her story and made me read it in one go, even though it's 12k of words xD It was such a new way of approaching the characters and it's brilliantly written. An absolute treat in 2022.
