I think that I loved this episode because it was kind. Fourteen had the face of the doctor who never had a closure, who wasn’t ready to go. Even though all regenerations are inherently traumatic, the doctor is dying after all, the rest of their lives accepted the change (as heard most clearly in eleventh’s and twelve’s speeches).

But ten wasn’t ready, ten raged and cried and lamented the injustice of it all. And Donna. It’s not a secret that companions often don’t fare well in the end but in my opinion Donna’s fate was the worst, she wouldn’t have chosen it, her ending was a tragedy. No matter what the toymaker said, Amy Chose to turn her back to the angel and Did live to an old age with the love of her life, Clara Chose her fate, raged against the doctor trying to erase her memories and got to travel the universe with another immortal person, Bill Chose to live and die as herself, she also got to see the universe with the girl she liked. Sure they died at some point but they had a Choice. And after fifteen years Donna got her memories back and didn’t die or suffer some horrible fate, she has her family and her best friend, she finally doesn’t feel like she’s lost something.

This episode gave us a closure, one that was kind and one that tells us that it’s possible to heal. Fifteen holds his younger version gently and tells him that it’s okay, even if you couldn’t save everyone, it’s ok I’ve got you. You can stay and heal with the help of your friends and that’s why I can be the way I am now. Because you took the time to recover from the horrible trauma we’ve been running from.

And that’s… that’s just kind.

Why not, just at the end, just be kind?

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.

I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.

2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)

3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited

Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.

Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).

Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.

Something I find very interesting about the character design in Dungeon Meshi is that the artist clearly puts a LOT of work into drawing people who look like normal people and since we, the audience, are so starved for that in Popular Media(bcs the current trend is drawing men and women so differently it's like they're a completely different species) unless they have a beard or visible tits no one has any idea what gender half the characters are.

Like I keep seeing people think Kabru and Chilchuck and Thistle are women and at first I was like "haha yeah same" but when I thought about it I was like...nah they just look like normal dudes, I know men irl who look like that, we're just so used to Hyper Masculinity being forced upon all male characters and Hyper Femininity on the women that when we see characters who look like average humans we have no idea how to process it.

And tbh I'm honestly glad that this manga has not only given us normal looking women but also normal looking men bcs fr I didn't realize how rare that was until I was faced with it. Male characters really do get forced to perform the most extreme form of their gender in popular media because of toxic masculinity and it's nice to see something break the mold.

Happy tdov to fat trans people. 🏳️‍⚧️ Biggest thing that helped me as a trans kid was seeing older fat trans people. There were a lot of really irritating "advice" posts going around early in my time on the internet with a lot of misinformation in them, but one that I constantly saw (in addition to people claiming you should wear your pants rediculously low or only wear button ups) were posts saying you had to lose weight to transition. Can confidently confirm that is completely untrue. 👍

He looks so... tired and sad.

The fact that he drops his smile for this one second while saying "Dooming everyone you love?" is also interesting. Does Al have some regrets after all? Maybe it's somehow connected to his mother?

Later on, Alastor talks about how a smile doesn't always mean that someone is happy, that it can be used as a tool to fool people around you that you are in control/that you are fine. It seems as if Al's permanent smile is a copying mechanism. Makes me wonder what the hell happened that he does this.

I like that we get those lil snippets about Al and we're left to figure out if we want to trust him or not. He is such a well written character.
