can we get more coach content ?? :D
teared up seeing this in my inbox /pos
get ready for way too many words...
I never had any ocs that stuck around before making coach for the stupidest crack fic with my friends,, so idrk how this is supposed to work but whatever. He isn't a very nuanced character yet, but he'll get there eventually.
on the google doc for planning False-hearted (the insane crack fic) this is what was written for coach a while back
"Coach: (deals with some behind the scene shit and plans “plays” to do in battle) {Boss Man} He plans plays for battle but also is in battle observing and making plans on the spot- like we all have radios and hes armed creepin around being like oooooo we got an abandoned sentry ill get that which opens up a space for someone else to come in and yada yada u get the idea (long story short i'm specifying that he gets a gun and gets to be in battle cause teehee silly) YOOOO HE CAN LIKE TRAIN THE MERCS N SHIT BY ANALYSIZING THEIR SKILLS IN BATTLE AND SEEING WHAT TGET CAN WORK OJ AND RAAGGHH cuz they got that training gym area right? coach the personal trainer lol"
Also have I mentioned its a self-insert? I think I may have just said oc but no yeah this guy is just me.
in terms of who this guy is, he gets along well with pretty much everyone, bullies scout like a brother a lot tho. no hard feelings ofc. since a very young age he had a lot of pressure and responsibility dropped on him, so while he is immature and messing around sometimes, he is wary of being too obnoxious, is never vulnerable with others, and puts up this false rigid cool leader guy persona. For now at least.
He may not talk to others about his emotions or whats going on with him, but he doesnt just bottle it up and never think about it. Hes got an over analytical brain and has looked into every single thing hes ever done or said and seems to truly understand so very much about himself. Hes knows the issues he has but cant bring himself to fix them because that takes being vulnerable and brave. Some things he cant be. He appears brave to others in your typical "do whatever it takes to help others and jump into action without worry" way tho.
In terms of backstory and what growing up was like? I havent decided yet lol
theres some older posts on my page under the false-hearted tag to (maybe???) give you more context of the strange world this guy is in.
heres pretty much every time ive drawn coach 👍👍im still working on figuring out his exact features so theyre pretty inconsistent.

SNL
OFC Aria Samsen is a writer for Saturday Night Live in New York City. She works with all the hosts on their sketches, including this weeks guest, Timothée Chalamet. What will happen when she accidentally mixes business with pleasure?
Tumblr media
Shit! I’m gonna be late if I stop for coffee, but, if I don’t stop for coffee I won’t be productive. Talk about a slippery slope. I quickly duck into the coffee shop by the subway station I need to take to get to work and order a large iced coffee, Monday’s are usually rough. I thank the barista and rush to catch the A train to work.
Speaking of work, my job is definitely an interesting one. I am a writer for SNL and it’s been such a dream these past couple of years. I’m 25 and starting to really take off in terms of my writing, I’ve been offered the position to become a part-time cast member multiple times on the show but I don’t think my anxiety would agree with that. I arrive to work a little late with my iced coffee (even though it’s the middle of December) and I make a beeline for my office, which I share with Pete Davidson, who happens to be one of my closest friends. Pete and I are complete opposites if that gives you any context on me.
“You’re late” Pete laughed as I walked in.
“Yeah yeah I’m aware, what are you working on?”
“I’ve had this jets fan club idea for a while and I’ve been waiting for the right host”
“I didn’t get a chance to check the schedule before leaving Saturday night, who’s the host this week?”
“Seriously Aria? It’s Timothée Chalamet, he’s actually a friend of mine”
“Oh sweet, I like his movies”
“Thank you!” I heard an unfamiliar voice from behind me coming from the doorway. I glare at Pete who’s trying not to laugh, and turn around to face the owner of this voice. Timothée stands there with a smile on his face and reaches his hand out to me, “Timothée, nice to meet you-?”
“Aria” I fumble around placing my coffee, phone and keys down and shake his hand.“Nice to meet you too” Timothée let’s go of my hand and I feel Pete slip past me to dab up (or whatever guys do idfk) Tim.
“It’s been a minute man how are you?” Pete asked him. “I’ve been great dude, I’m excited to host although I am pretty nervous” “Don’t be, you’ll do great” I smiled at him. Why did I say that, he clearly isn’t having a conversation with me. Great he’s going to think I’m weird now and not want to talk to me or work with me and this whole week is going to be horri-“Thank you Aria” he smiled and locked eyes with me, I felt my cheeks getting hot and averted my gaze to my stuff on Pete’s desk, picking up my drink before taking a sip, stepping back towards my desk.
“I gotta go talk to Colin Jost and Michael Che..can you guys point me in the right direction?” Tim asked. Pete looked at me and smirked saying “Yeah Aria can show you I’m in the middle of a pitch” Tim looked at me and said “Sounds great, lead the way”. I put all my stuff down before sneaking a glare Pete’s way, he knew how nervous I got around guys I didn’t know and he was using me as a pawn in his own enjoyment game. I’m gonna kill him for this.
“Follow me” I said, Timothée started walking next to me. “So, you’re a writer a presume?” I laughed a little bit. “Yeah I write some of the stuff for weekend update and some other sketches as well” “That’s so cool, I’ve been watching the show since I can remember, you should be really proud” “I am, thank you, that’s sweet” he nodded and shoved his hands in his pockets.
“So you and Pete? Are you guys close friends or dating or-?” If I was drinking something at the moment, I’m positive I would’ve choked on it. Did he just ask if I’m dating Pete? Why would he want to know that?
“No, no! Just close friends is all, Pete’s like an older brother to me” Tim smiled at this and let out a laugh. “That’s nice, Pete’s a great guy” I stopped in front of Colin and Michael’s office and turned to him. “Yeah he’s alright I guess, anyway here’s there office, I’m sure you’re gonna be busy all day but you’re probably slotted to sit with Pete and I at some point during the week so I’ll see you around”. How I managed to get all of that out without stuttering terribly over my words is well beyond me.
I went to walk away when I felt Timothée grab my upper left arm, I turned towards him with what I presume looked like a look of confusion on my face, “Thank you for walking me, I hope I see you around sooner rather than later” he smiled and walked into the office, leaving me to contemplate what he just said.
As I walked back to my office, I couldn’t help but think about him. Sure, I’ve met celebrities but there was something completely disarming about his charisma. He was down to earth, I could just tell. I opened the door to find Pete sitting at his desk, smiling bright at me when he saw I walked in.
“You spent 5 minutes with Timmy and you already have a crush on him”
I rolled my eyes “I do not have a crush on him, shut up Pete”
“If you don’t yet, I bet you will by the end of the week” What the hell does that mean? I’ll have a crush on him by the end of the week? Well it looks like that trains boarding as we speak, not long till it leaves the station. I couldn’t help myself but go sit at my desk and Google him.
Timothée Chalamet

“I dO nOt HaVe A cRuSh On HiM” Pete imitated me (horrible imitation, by the way). I jumped out my seat, not even noticing he was behind me, looking over my shoulder at my computer. My head fell into my hands as I let out a loud groan of frustration as Pete made his way back to his desk laughing.
“You’ll thank me when I make this happen.”
“Shut up Pete.”
A/N: I decided to go ahead with this multi-part series, not sure how many parts I'm gonna make it but I definitely want to try for 3 or 4, maybe 5, depending on how many ideas I can come up with. Tumblr media
Getting to visit Matthew while he’s filming is a rare, yet special, occurrence. I always try to make the best of it when I get the change to head up to Vancouver, whether it be for a quick weekend or a whole week. When the final season of the show started, I did what I could to get to Vancouver for as long as I possibly could. I’d grown close to the cast, not to mention my boyfriend of six years. I wanted to make the best of this final season and make as many memories as I could, even if I’m not a member of the cast. They always joke that I’m an honorary member.
When, one night, Matthew mentioned reviving the Unauthorized Documentaries for the final season of Criminal Minds, I thought he meant it as a joke. He mentioned it so nonchalantly that I’d almost laughed. I thought he’d be too busy to worry about filming something on his own. But on his first week filming, during one of our first nightly FaceTimes, he ran a whole slew of ideas by me and I knew he was serious.
At least once a week, he would run an idea by me and would judge the quality by my quantity of laughter. I didn’t even need to comment or give my input, he’d just rattle off jokes and concepts and then either check them off or cross them out when I react. He did this every week up until this week, when he started filming.
“Do I look good?” Matthew brings my attention up from my laptop as he tugs on the lapel of his dress jacket, then holds out his hands to reveal his outfit. He’s dressed for the scenes he’s filming today, a scene with
Aubrey, so I’m not entirely sure why he’s so worried about how he’s dressed, but I’m not composing about the open request to check him out. “I’m about to go start filming the documentary with Andy,”
I drag my eyes up and down his body, my fingers stilling over the keys as I admire his figure. When I reach his eyes again, his eyebrows are raised because he can tell I’m doing more than just evaluating his outfit. I suck my bottom lip between my teeth as I nod, pushing my laptop aside and reaching my hands out for him. “You look very good, bunny,”
Matthew chuckles as I successfully grab his hands and tug him closer to me. “No, no,” he doesn’t resist as I twist my fingers in his belt loops, “I gotta go work,”
“I know,” I pout, letting go of him and sitting back in the too-comfy armchair I’m in. I’d give anything to grab him again and drag him into this chair with me. “Go film, I’ll probably be here when you get back,”
“Probably?” He picks up his script and, like the diva he is, checks his hair in the mirror and heads towards his trailer door, peeking back at me.
“I might follow you, I might stay here and keep doing the work I’ve been procrastinating,” I shrug and gesture back to my discarded laptop, flashing with a blank Google Doc, a doc that has been blank for weeks on end. Being a writer is hard and frustrating and not easy, by any means. What made me think getting a degree in writing would be a good idea? Shaking off my frustrations, I smile cutely at my boyfriend, tilting my head to the side. “Give me a kiss before you leave?”
Matthew nods and stalks back over, leaning over to peck my lips. “Whatever you write,” he whispers, warm breath fanning across my face, “will be absolutely amazing and beautiful and I’ll be honored to read it,”
“Oh, you give me too much credit,” I scoff, watching Matthew roll his eyes.
“And you don’t give yourself enough,” he responds, and then hastily checks his watch. “Okay, I’ve gotta go, but this conversation is not over. I’ll see you later. Love you,”
“Love you too. Go be funny,” I wave goodbye at him as he goes bouncing out of the trailer, closing the door behind him, leaving me to my empty Google Doc.
///
An hour later, my head is starting to hurt from staring down at a bright screen so I decide to take a break and get something to eat from catering. I haven’t heard anything from Matthew and I’m not sure what he’s up to, so I grab my phone and throw on one of his hoodies that’s a bit too big on me and head out of his trailer.
As soon as I do, though, I run right into Matthew with a pile of shoes in his hands, making them tumble to the asphalt. He curses and keeps a straight face as he tries to pick them up again. Then he sees an opportunity in me and starts to shove shoes into my hands to help him, but they’re still tumbling out. I resist the urge to laugh because I know this would ruin his bit, and I just let him silently shove Daniel’s shoes into my arms.
But then he runs off, leaving me with shoes in my arms. Without any direction or guidance from my boyfriend, I turn to Andy, who’s holding the camera, and shrug my shoulders, dropping Daniel’s shoes to the floor before walking off to my original destination- catering. Those two boys can clean up the mess they devised. I’m hungry.
Matthew finds me just twenty minutes later, taking me by surprise when he wraps his arms around my shoulders from behind, pressing kisses to my cheek. “Thanks for helping me,”
He pulls out the chair beside me and scoots as close as he can to me, our thighs touching. “I mean, I wasn’t really expecting it but it was funny. I was internally laughing,” I let my head fall onto his shoulder, feeling his arm snake around my waist. I peer up at him, feeling my pupils dilating into hearts at the sight of my stunning boyfriend. I’ll never stop being floored by his eyes and his jawline and his dimples and his lips and his smile and how fucking beautiful he is. “I liked that idea from the beginning.”
“I know you did,” he quips, not-so-sneakily swiping a chip from my plate and popping it into his mouth. “Maybe you’ll appear in another episode. Who knows?”
I don’t see Matthew until the end of the day because he’s busy doing his job, as he should be. I spend my day writing in his trailer and filling up my previously empty Google Doc. When the cast has a long break, Matthew comes in to film a scene that I recognize as the ending to the second episode. He’s sitting at his open trailer door, supposedly watching videos of Daniel modeling. He’d only waved at me when he came in, not wanting to bother my work. I wish he would distract me more. Maybe I’d take action on my fantasy of melting into this armchair with him.
His exaggerated and focused facial expression is enough to make me suppress a giggle, but then I spot a baby girl hat from Shemar on the counter and a light bulb starts floating over my head.
“Psst,” I hiss, and Matthew looks up at me, his eyebrows raised. I hold up the hat to him, and his eyes light up with a childlike excitement. He holds up his hands and I toss the hat to him, and as soon as he puts it on, I let out the laugh I’ve been holding in. “Perfect, you look perfect, baby,” Matthew winks at me and then gives a thumbs up to Andy, putting on his exaggerated face yet again and staring down at his phone. I tuck my face in my laptop so I don’t laugh again, typing diligently.
The next day is when I’m, yet again, roped into Matthew’s documentary. I don’t mind though. His ideas are hilarious and they never fail to make me laugh.
I sit in Matthew’s trailer for an hour without him, staring at a blinking cursor. I don’t write a single word and I know that sitting in the same spot won’t make inspiration suddenly strike. I decide to change my scene up and bring my laptop to catering. I grab a snack and take a seat at an empty table, crossing my legs under me, beginning to mull over combinations of words and debate definitions of words. It’d been relatively quiet in catering for a while, but it all comes to an end when Matthew comes marching up to me.
“Hi, babe,” he says sweetly, a bit too sweetly, pulling out the chair next to me and taking a seat. Like yesterday, I give him a confused look, and when he gives me the same adorable smile that he always does, my heart practically melts. The ways this man makes me fall so easily. I’ll never understand.
“Hi, there,” I respond, and then glance up at Andy holding the camera. “Can I help you?”
“Could you possibly google something for me?” Matthew says and directs his attention to my laptop. The way he’s not giving me any type of attention or physical affection let’s me know that he really is filming his documentary again, so I play into it again. What do I have to lose? I’m not writing anyway.
“Yeah, sure,” I switch to Chrome and pull up Google. “What is it?”
“Could you search Daniel Henry?” Matthew keeps a straight face and it’s moments like this that remind me how great of an actor he is. Who can keep a straight face while regurgitating an incorrect name?
I turn my head to him, biting my lip to hold back my laugh. “Henry?”
Matthew nods. “Yeah, I know, it sounds like a girl's name. I thought it was a girls name at first. Daniel,” He repeats it as if that clarifies anything at all. I just narrow my eyes at him again, and when I don’t search the obviously incorrect name that he’s giving me, he sits back in his chair, finally looking at me again with his eyes narrowed. “Do you-“ he lets out a breath, crossing his arms over his chest, “do you think there’s any chance he could be taller than me?”
“Okay, we can stop there,” Andy cuts us off, dropping the camera from focus.
“I think you missed your calling in life, love,” Matthew chuckles, pulling me into his arms, attacking my face with kisses. “I’m sorry to spring that on you, but-“
“No, it’s fine. I wasn’t really getting anywhere anyway. If you need help with anything else, you know I’m around for the rest of the week.”
Surely, he cashed in on that offer. It was accidental. It was my fault, really. I was just trying to get back to Matthew’s trailer the next day after having lunch with Kirsten and Daniel, to which Matthew jokingly called me a traitor. I heard Matthew’s loud voice from all the way down the hallway and I should have turned and left, but I didn’t.
So, iced coffee in hand, I stroll down the hallway and when I make it to the clearing, I stop in my tracks. Now, you’d think that after being with this man for five years and living with him, nothing would surprise me anymore. But he still has his moments, and this is definitely one of them. He has these wooden boxes and he’s got a roll of packing tape, and he’s taping the boxes to his feet. Maybe this shouldn’t surprise me, because he’s told me about this idea of his, but seeing him actually doing it with my own eyes is a whole different thing.
It only takes him a moment to notice my presence, and when he does, he waves me over. “Babe, babe, hey babe, babe, babe,” he says quickly, waving his hand quickly, holding the wooden box against his foot. “Come help me,”
Keeping up the same attitude I’ve had in the past, I let out a dramatic sigh and drag myself over to him, sitting down on the floor and putting my coffee on the floor. But the moment I do, Matthew snatches it up and starts drinking it as I grab the dangling packing tape. Gosh, if he actually acted like this, I’d have broken up with him forever ago.
I wrap the tape around his foot and the box and then around his ankle, making sure to not make it too tight so that I hurt him. He’s still sipping my coffee and staring into the camera like some cocky asshole when I move onto the other foot, and then I eventually run out of tape.
I sit back on my heels and look up at him. “I’m out,” Wow, this position we’re in right now? If Matthew didn’t have wooden boxes strapped to his feet and we weren’t in the middle of the Criminal Minds offices, I’d probably be reaching for his belt. But I can’t let my mind go there or else we’ll be hooking up in a bathroom or his trailer, and that never ends well for anyone.
“Okay,” he mumbles, and I watch in amusement for way too long as he struggles to get up to his feet. I don’t even help him, I just sit back and giggle. “Here, you can have this back,” he holds my coffee out to me, and just as soon as I reach for it, he pulls it back. “Wait,” he takes a long sip, “okay here.” I finally grab my coffee again and then move to lean against the wall, watching him struggle to take the first few steps with boxes taped to his feet.
He hobbles down the hallway, all the way to BJ and proceeds to ask her to paint the boxes like shoes. And once he gets the shot he wants of this scene, Andy wanders off and he comes wobbling back to me with a cute, dumb smile on his face. “Will you help me get these off?”
I nod, sitting down on the floor again to pull off the tape around his feet. “Honestly, I’m surprised you didn’t trip and fall on your face,”
“Me too,” he laughs, sighing with relief when I take the first box off and set it aside. “But hey, this is my last break and then I’m gonna be working late today. I don’t know if it’s worth it to stick around set. I’m not gonna be able to come see you or anything,”
“Maybe I’ll go back to your house. I can make some dinner instead of ordering out,” I pull off the last bit of tape and then swiftly reach up to press it against Matthew’s cheek, watching it hang there limply.
He gives me a deadpan look as I devolve into giggles, falling over his lap and holding onto his misplaced elbow pads to hold me up. “Ha ha, very funny. I’m laughing so much. That was so funny,” His voice is void of any humor as he holds my shaking body from hitting the carpeted floor.
“I know, I’m just so funny,” I quip, pulling myself together enough to crane my neck and kiss his cheek. “But I am probably gonna go back to your house. Sounds like a good idea,”
“Okay, just let me know when you get there,” Matthew pats my thigh and signals me to get up, and once we’re on our feet again, he moves the wooden boxes aside. “I might not respond but-“
“Text you so you know I’m safe. I’ve got it,” I finish for him, fixing the lapel of his jacket. I push my pointer finger against the tip of his nose, making him scrunch it up in the insanely adorable way he does. The sight brings a smile to my face and it makes my heart beat faster. “I’ll see you later, okay? Go be brilliant.”
///
The sound of the front door opening lifts my head, taking my attention away from the glass of wine in my hand and the laptop in front of me, yet again. I glance at the timer on the oven and then jump to my feet, padding towards the foyer.
Matthew is dropping his backpack by the door when I get to him, and pauses halfway through reaching for his jacket. “Hi, love bug,” he murmurs, giving me a weak smile.
I grab Matthew’s jacket for him and slide it off his shoulders. “Hi, bunny,” When I turn to hang the teddy bear jacket on the coat rack, I feel his hands on my waist, drawing me closer to him. He successfully pulls me against his chest, lips leaving a trail against my shoulder. “Long day, huh?”
“Yeah,” he whispers, voice wavering as he tucks his face into my neck, “long, and repetitive, and tiring, and I’m very hungry and I smell food,”
I turn myself around in Matthew’s arms and face him, placing my hands on his cheeks. “I got pizza dough on my way home and I made homemade pizza. It’s in the oven and it’ll be done in about ten minutes. And I poured you a glass of wine too,”
Matthew’s eyes flutter closed and he presses his forehead against mine. “You’re an angel. You’re a goddamn angel, sent from heaven to bless me with your presence,”
“Oh, stop,” I laugh, patting his cheek gently. “Let’s just get wine drunk and eat pizza and watch movies all night. You don’t have work tomorrow and I’m tired of looking at my damn laptop,”
“You make us sound like two teenage girls,” Matthew unwinds from my embrace and wanders into the kitchen, swiping the full glass of wine from the counter. He takes a sip and then pecks my lips again, and I revel in the sweetness of his lips.
Matthew sits at the counter, right in front of my laptop, taking another long gulp of his wine. I check on the pizza, just to make sure it’s not burnt, but when Matthew is silent for too long, I look back to make sure he’s okay. Sometimes when he has a hard or long day at work, he tends to shut down and not open up to me, and I don’t want that to happen. But when I turn to check up on him, I find him leaning into my laptop, his eyes darting across the screen.
I gasp, stepping forward and slamming my laptop shut, ripping it away. “Hey! You know I don’t like it when you read my work before it’s edited and finished,”
Matthew pouts, hiding his face behind his wine. “Sorry, I just- well, you’ve been talking about it so much and it was right here and I wanted to see how it was going,” I go into the other room and put my laptop into my bag, out of sight and out of mind. When I return to the kitchen, Matthew is pulling the pizza out of the oven just as the timer goes off. “If it means anything, of what I did read, it was really good. I only got through the first two paragraphs, but I really loved it.”
“Well, thanks,” I mumble, going onto my toes to kiss his cheek before grabbing the pizza cutter. “I’m not mad, I just-“
“I get it. You don’t let me read your writing until it’s done and I don’t let you see anything I’ve filmed until it’s done,”
“Oh, so, I can’t see any of the documentary until it’s done?”
“Maybe I’ll make an exception for that,” he quips, grabbing the pizza cutter from me and digging it into the hot pizza crust. “I don’t trust you with this thing anymore. Not after you ended up in the hospital last year with Sandy,” he turns to me with a pointed look.
“It was an accident and you know it!”
“Oh, really?” He guffaws, tossing the pizza cutter aside and reaching for my waist. But I dodge him, taking a step back. He accepts this as his challenge, reaching for me again, and when I dodge him one more time with a confident smirk, a playful fire ignites behind his eyes. “Fuck the pizza. I’m coming for you.”

———
Ten months.
It had been ten months since Maeve had left, ten months since a part of Spencer felt broken, crumpled and gone.
Ten months since you entered his life in a different way then he would ever think.
After your singing sessions things started to look better, brighter, lighter and happier.
Currently yourself and Spencer were jamming out in his apartment to It's My Life.
“It's my life! And it's now or never!” you screamed and jumped on the couch, Spencer followed you with a laugh and shouted at the top of his lungs.
“'Cause I ain't gonna live forever, I just want to live while I'm alive” Spencer sang, you grinned as you hoped down from the couch, grabbed his hands and started dancing.
“My heart is like an open highway, like Frankie said, ‘i did it my way’!” you grinned as Spencer spun you around and stepped onto the coffee table.
“I just want to live while I'm alive,” Spencer sang as you hopped up and onto the table next to the Doctor.
“ITS, MY, LIFE!” you exclaimed together and posed on the table as if there was a crowd gathered and you had just danced your hearts out; which you did. Your breathing was heavy as you let out a large laugh and jogged over to the CD player to turn it down as the next song came on from your playlist, going from a room shattering volume to a whisper.
“Drink?” Spencer asked with heavy breaths as he pointed to the kitchen, you nodded as you held your back and sat on the couch, Spencer came back a moment later with two glasses of water and handed one to you as you sat in the blissful aftermath of a singing and dance off.
“Are you going to Garcias Day of the Dead party?” you asked after a moment, it wasn't very risky to ask but it was still touchy as you both knew the background to the question. Spencer nodded.
“Yeah, yeah I am, I'm meant to be helping her with groceries sometime, she said she’d message me when she was ready” Spencer smiled as he placed the empty cup on the table and laid back against the couch cushions, “who are you bringing?” Spencer hesitantly asked as you grinned.
“I can't tell you that Spence, it's cheating” you shook your head before putting your cup down on the table and opening your phone to look at the time; you were meant to be home 10 minutes ago, “shit, sorry Spence i gotta head,” you said as you quickly gathered your belongings.
“Do you have to leave?” Spencer asked, he sounded so sad that you needed to leave, you bit your lip as you opened the door.
“I’m sorry Spence, i do, i've um…” should you tell him? “I've got a date,” you said with a tight lipped smile. Spencer hoped his face didn't convey the emotions he felt and hoped you didn't notice his change in demeanor.
“Oh, yeah of course,” Spencer said tightly, “you head ill...ill clean up here,”
“Thanks Spence, i'll see you at work!” you said with a grin and waved the Doctor a goodbye. The retreating of your footsteps seemed to echo in the surrounding walls of Spencer's apartment and his mind, your smile was flashing in his and out of his head a thousand times over in bright flashes as the room suddenly felt rather lonely and cold without your presence in it anymore. Spencer looked around the room as he felt his shoulders sag, emotions came back to him as well as memories of Maeve, Tobias, Nathan and multiple other people who impacted his life in some way, in a way of his work and in a way that's personal.
Alex.
Of course!
Spencer scrambled for his phone and clicked on Blake's personal cell number. It rang three times before the woman's voice floated through.
“Ried? Is everything okay?” the worry in Blake's voice floated through the speakers as Spencer took a breath.
“I…” Spencer sighed softly and sniffled, god was he going to cry again? “I think im in love...again”
“Oh Spence,”
---
You smiled tightly as your date talked about...what was he talking about again?
“And that's how I found out my family was a part of the mafia group in the nineteen hundreds!” the date exclaimed, oh god had you forgotten his name already?
“Thats,” you gave a fake laugh as real as you could, “that's amazing Matt!” you said with a clap of your hands.
“My name’s Michael…” your date reminded you, you sighed and put your head in your hands with a groan.
“I'm sorry-”
“No it's...I can tell your head is somewhere else,” your date said with a smile, “did you want to talk about it?” he asked, you bit your lip before responding.
“One of my coworkers…” should you be telling a story that isn't yours to tell? “One of my coworkers lost someone close to them ten months ago,” you started the story, you can't stop now, “and to be a good friend I started to sing for him!” you said happily, using your hands to talk, “i started singing for him because it made me happy when i was a child and i thought it would cheer him up as well, in the end it did and it helped him get better and obviously he is better but...that was ten months ago,” you sighed, “Micheal it was ten months ago that he lost what could possibly be his only love and here i am...in love with him,”
“Oh doll,” Micheal said softly as he put his hand on top of yours, “what do you mean his only love?” the man asked, “just so i can get a better understanding and idea of the situation,” he smiled politely.
“Hes...he has an eidetic memory, can read 20,000 words a minute, he has 3 PhDs and 3 Bachelors, he doesn't get along well with women in the romance scene a lot of the time but he's just...he's just so smart and he's so lovely and kind and works well with everyone,” you took a breath as you wiped a tear from your eye you didn't realise had leaked, “he puts himself on the line all the time; he’s been shot in the knee, shot in the shoulder, he got kidnapped and drugged, poisoned with a worse strain of Anthrax then actual anthrax, he's such a good hostage speaker, he delves into every case with everything he has as if its his last which it could possibly be, he helped a young boy, Nathan Harris, when he believed he was going to become a serial killer an-”
“Woah woah woah baby slow down,” Micheal said as he looked to you, “you’re getting so worked up over this boy, i mean, he's just a boy,” Micheal said with a grin, “you sing for him don't you?”
“Yeah I do,” you absentmindedly smiled, “it's amazing, just today we sung It’s My Life before I came here,” you said with a large grin, the memory still fresh.
“Okay so, how about, instead, you lean it to more romantic songs? Slowly give him hints and open up to him more?” Micheal questioned, you never actually thought of that but as you mulled it over it sounded a lot better than any other plan you would have had brewed anway. You nodded.
“Thats...thats really good Micheal,” you said with a grin, “thank you,”
“It’s alright; if i can't be the one then i'll help you with him,” Micheal said with a joking grin. You ended the night with the waitress coming over to take your plates as you asked for the bill, split it, giving a lovely tip and Micheal driving you home. He planted a kiss on your cheek before handing you his number on a napkin, “for whenever and whatever you want or need,” he had said, you gave him a kiss on the cheek and a thank you before retreating into your house and mulling over the next few songs to sing for Spencer whenever he wanted.
---
A few days passed after your date and Spencers emotional outburst to Blake (which she kept to herself and Spencer of course), you had been given a case and hadn't had time to sing to Spencer; you could tell this was taking a little toll on the poor doctor as he became distracted easily as well as the far off gaze he had on his face a lot of the time now, however, the plane had just landed back in DC.
“Spence!” you called for the doctor, he turned for a moment and slowed his walking for you to catch up, “did you want me to call tonight?” you asked with a grin.
“Yes please (Y/n),” the doctor said, he seemed sad but also desperate.
“Are you alright?” you questioned as you stopped the doctor with your hand on his arm, “i'm here for you,”
“I’ll be alright after tonight (Y/n), it's okay,” and without another word Spencer left you, spoke to Hotch for a second and then headed out the door.
“Are you two okay?” Blake asked as she came up next to you.
“I think so, I think it’s just because we haven't had a lot of time recently for our normal sessions,” you said with a tight smile.
“He misses you (Y/n),” Blake said, “a lot more than you know,” the two of you dropped the subject pretty quickly after that as you walked to the parking lots and headed home, the road seemed to go in a blur as you drove, forming colours and paint strokes against the harsh greys of the DC city buildings.
---
Another few days passed and your singing sessions went back to normal, except this time you added more romantic songs, adding a more soft tone or even adding your uke like one of the first times you sang for Spencer, and right now you were finishing off Hey There Delilah.
“Hey there, Spencer,” you had changed the lyrics for the last ‘hey there’, you heard Spencer give off a little breathy laugh, “You be good, and don't you miss me, two more years and you'll be done with school,” you couldn't help but laugh slightly at the school part seeing as Spencer had...well you know what he’s got, “And I'll be makin' history like I do. You know it's all because of you…” you trailed the end of your sentence off slightly, “We can do whatever we want to…” you sighed softly, “hey there, Spencer, here’s to you,” you trailed off again as you felt tears well in your eyes as you spoke the last words instead of singing them, “This one's for you” and with that the song ended and you smiled into the phone, Spencer clapped loudly into the phone’s speaker.
“That was beautiful (Y/n)!” the doctor exclaimed with a smile, “I haven't heard that song before,” you laughed, of course he hadn't heard the song before.
“It's a classic but not the type of classic you know of,” you said with a smile as you heard Spencer laugh along with you too, “I’m sorry Spence but i have to get to bed,” you sounded so sad.
“Right, of course,” Spencer said as he finally glanced at the clock, god it was past 12 already? You'd been on a call together since 10, “goodnight (Y/n), i'll see you at Garcias tomorrow?” Spencer asked, shit. You'd forgotten about tomorrow completely.
“Y-yeah of course! I'll be there don't worry,” you smiled into the phone, “goodnight Spence” and with that you hung up the phone and got ready for bed. Spencer did the same in his apartment.
---
You smiled sweetly at Spencer as he placed Maeve's photo on the altar as everyone gave him a sympathetic look and then another person's photo.
“This is uh, Nikola Tesla,” he said, you couldn't help but smile, “i just hope he's still having fun inventing things wherever he is” Spencer said with the little smile and laugh he does every now and then as he stepped back from the alter; allowing you to place your photo. You gulped as you fiddled with the photographic paper.
“This uh,” you started, nobody actually knew who this was, you sniffled as Garcia held you hand and you smiled to her as thanks for the reassurance, you cleared your throat, “this is Gene Wilder,” you grinned as Spencer chuckled softly, of course it was him, “i don't uh, i don't really have any family that i'm close to that has passed but, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has always been my childhood, it was always close to my heart and when the movie came out i fell in love with it even more and the more i watched it the more i felt Gene Wilder become apart of me, my family and my life.” you took a breath as you placed the photo onto the altar, it was of his iconic Willy Wonka pose, “of course he has become a meme icon,” you laughed as everyone did too, “but i know for a fact he looks at everyone from wherever he is and he looks at them with such passion and love and admiration for whatever they're doing and i know he fills me with hope and confidence whenever i need it” you smiled as you finished and stepped back and the line continued.
You all gave your thanks, gave a blessing or a prayer depending on who it was, sent your respects and then went your way with drinks and conversations and music. Spencer smiled as he came up to you when Hotch walked away, your conversation about Henry becoming dwindled as the food looked more appetizing to Hotch.
“Hey,” Spencer said with a little wave as he held a cup of...cordial?
“Are you really drinking cordial Spencer?” you asked with a laugh as Spencer nodded.
“Believe it or not cordial is a lot healthier than wine,” Spencer spoke with a laugh as he stated the obvious, you smiled as well but it was tight, “are you okay?” you nodded.
“Yeah i'll be alright,” you said quietly, where was this sad emotion suddenly coming from?
“Considering the circumstances it's okay to be sad (Y/n)” Spencer commented as he saw your saddened expression but before he could say anything else you put on a fake smile.
“Spence i promise, im okay” you said with fake confidence, “promise” you held out your hand for the doctor and took his warm palm in his, you could tell Spencer didn't believe you but nodded anyway, but your whole demeanor changed as soon as the song did and you grinned, “dance with me Spencer?” you asked as you set down your wine and dragged the poor doctor to the ‘dance floor’.
“N-no i'm not really- i haven't ever-” Spencer stuttered but with your glowing smile and laugh he found himself not finding the words to excuse himself before nodding and placing his drink down on the nearest surface. You brought the doctor close to your body and rested your head in his neck as his arms wrapped around your waist hesitantly and yours wrapped around his neck, you danced in a slow circle as the rest of the team gave suggestive glances to each other.
“Rose girls in glass vases, perfect bodies, perfect faces, they all belong in magazines” your voice floated through the air softly and Spencers voice hitched, “Those girls the boys are chasing, winning all the games they're playing, they're always in a different league” you continued to sing and sway with Spencer, his grip tightened on you as he buried his face into your hair as Hotch pulled Alex in for a dance, Rossi with J.J. and Derek and Garcia all walked to the dance floor; slow dancing and holding one another softly as your voice continued, “Stretching toward the sky like I don't care, wishing you could see me standing there” god was that directed to Spencer? It was, wasn't it? Spencer bit his lip at the thought as he continued swaying as he looked up for a second and saw everyone else slow dancing, a smile gracing his lips as your voice flowed through the air again, “But I'm a sunflower, a little funny, If I were a rose, maybe you'd want me” your voice wavered as you buried your face into Spencers neck, “If I could, I'd change overnight, I'd turn into something you'd like but i'm a,” your voice came out a little stronger now as you looked up and saw your co-workers now switching dance partners; Rossi with Hotch (which made you laugh a little), J.J. and Derek, and Alex with Garcia, “sunflower, a little funny, if I were a rose, maybe you'd pick me” your voice sighed at the end as you broke away from Spencers neck to look at the beautiful man in front of you, wording the lyrics to him, “But I know you don't have a clue, this sunflower's waiting for you,” both of you leant in as your eyes darted to Spencers mouth, his eyes doing the same to yours as he licked his lips without realisation, “Waiting for you” with your mouths inches apart and your eyelids slowly closing, you could feel Spencers breath fanning over your lips...almost...almost…
“(Y/n) that's a beautiful voice you have!” Alex exclaimed, the song continued in the background as yourself and Spencer jumped away from each other, smiling awkwardly as you wiped your sweaty palms on your hips and thighs. Your teammates all broke away from each other; Blake must have been the only one to see and realise what was going to happen, you looked to Alex with a mix of emotions including anger and appreciation; anger because she stopped you and Spencer from kissing, appreciation because she stopped you and Spencer kissing in front of the others.
“Thanks…” you smiled as you scratched the back of your head with an awkward smile, “well i gotta start heading!” you exclaimed suddenly, the crushing feeling in your chest getting too much for you to stay.
“Ohhh what what what?” Garcia asked as she came forward, “oh come on i can get the blow up mattress, we can all sleep here, take tomorrow off; Hotch we can take tomorrow off can't we?” Garcia suddenly exclaimed, you all smiled as did Hotch but he didn't say a word; Garcia was tipsy, if not already drunk.
“It’s okay Penelopie really,” you said with a smile as you walked to the girl and hugged her close, “i'll see you guys tomorrow though,” you smiled as you hugged everyone, of course Spencer being the last.
“I’ll drive you home,” Spencer said quickly as he picked up your coat as well as his, you stuttered as Spencer opened Garcia's door but decided against it; instead blushing and thanking Spencer as the two of you walked out of the apartment building and to Spencers old timey wimey car.
“Think those two will realise?” Derek said off-handedly with a knowing grin.
“They’re profilers, they'll figure it out,” Rossi said with a grin.
-------
Yourself and Spencer had already discussed you would sleepover at his house in case you got drunk or tipsy off of wine, that and the fact you used public transport to get to Garcias rather than a car and Spencer didn't want you to go onto the tubes at this time at night.
“No, Spence, I already told you I'm not taking your bed!” you exclaimed with a laugh as you got a drink from Spencer's kitchen.
“(Y/n) please, my couch is complete rubbish and i know!” Spencer exclaimed from his bedroom where he was getting dressed in. You scoffed jokingly.
“Oh yeah Spencer, you've slept on your couch you germaphobe” you said with a smile as you walked to Spencer's bedroom.
“I did! When…” as you entered the bedroom the air turned cold as Spencers smile fell, you looked at him from across the room in all of his shirtless-and-low-hanging-pyjama-pants glory, he cleared his throat, “when Maeve…” he choked as his sentence drained off the way it does when Spencer is emotional and about to cry.
“Oh, Spence im...im sorry i didn't think,” you said softly, you stayed in the doorway unsure of what to do. Spencer cleared his throat as he threw his side of the covers back and started to get into the bed.
“Please?” Spencer questioned, you knew what he wanted as he bunched the sheets at his waist and played with his fingers while looking at the covers, you nodded. Whether Spencer saw you nod or not you weren't sure but you went through the same motions as you would when going to bed; brushed your teeth in Spencer's connected bathroom, tugged off your work clothes, put on your pyjamas as Spencer waited patiently in the bed, unmoving. Your feet padded on the floor as you brought back the covers on the other side of Spencer and sat on the bed next to him, the covers bunched up around your waist as you waited, waited for Spencer to lay down, hold your hand, something.
And then he did.
“Spencer i know-”
“Can you sing for me?” Spencer suddenly asked, his voice on the verge of breaking as he looked to you with teary eyes, you nodded quickly and began to smile.
“Yeah, yeah of course i can Spencer,” you said quickly, “did you want to get under the covers?” you asked softly, Spencer nodded and sniffled softly as the two of you maneuvered to lay down. You laid on your back as Spencer clutched onto you, his head rested on your chest as your arm wrapped around his back and to his shoulder, “what do we want tonight?” you asked in a soft voice into Spencer's hair.
“Anything, anything happy,” Spencer mumbled into your chest, you nodded and thought for a moment.
“Why are there so many, songs about rainbows, and what's on the other side” you started to sing, Spencer doesn't know the muppets very well but he has heard this song play in your headphone while on the jet home after a tough case once or twice, this was the second song you used to calm yourself down next to The Candy Man, “Rainbows are visions, they're only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide” your voice was soft and filtered through the air as Spencer closed his eyes, envisioning himself in a wonderful forest, just like Kermit the frog with you by his side, your uke in your arms, the cords coming through seamlessly, “So we've been told and some chose to believe it, but I know they're wrong wait and see” you squeezed Spencer softly as you started on the chorus, “Someday we'll find it, The Rainbow Connection” you tilted Spencers chin up from your chest and moved back from Spencer a little so he wasn't arched weirdly nor where you bent weirdly, “The lovers,” you pointed a finger into your own chest, “the dreamers,” you pointed a finger into Spencers chest as he smiled softly, his tears dripping into the creases of his smile, “and me” you cuddled back into Spencer as his arms tightly wrapped around you again.
“Who said that every wish,” Spencer's soft voice filtered in the air, you smiled and hummed the instrumentals, “Would be heard and answered, when wished on the morning star” you smiled and kissed Spencer's head again and joined in with singing.
“Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it, look what it’s done so far” you shrugged jokingly as if the ‘look what it's done so far’ was someone really saying it, a soft chuckle came from Spencer, “What's so amazing,” you shrugged again as you looked to Spencer, “that keeps us stargazing, what do we think we might see?” you brought your unwrapped arm up towards the ceiling and cupped it around as if you were cupping Spencers chin, “Someday we’ll find it,” you looked back down to Spencer as your arm came down as well, “The Rainbow Connection,” you cupped Spencers cheek as you moved forward, Spencer doing the same as he looked down to your lips like he did at Garcias before gliding back up to your eyes, “The lovers,” you cocked a small smile as the lyrics came out in a whisper, “The dreamers,” you tapped Spencer cheek softly as the gap finally closed and your lips pressed against Spencers for a short moment before you both pulled back slowly, “And me”

Y/N’s made a mistake.
Or at least, that’s what she thinks, staring up at the daunting skyscraper that towered before her, with the large Holland and Co. sign glinting under the bright glare of the sun. How had she ended up here? Her, a struggling college student, and yet here she was, interning at one of the biggest business firms in England. It really didn’t add up. It’s all been a blur. She remembers getting the phone call, being told to arrive at, and she quotes, “7AM on the dot, tardiness will not be tolerated”, and it’s almost as though she’s reliving high school all over again, only this time around, her future is actually on the line.
Which is probably why she’d dragged herself out of bed at 4 in the morning, and then proceeded to spend an hour pep talking herself in the mirror. Was it too late to back out now?  She figures if she turns back and leaves, she can probably make it back to her apartment in 20 minutes flat, and then she can call in faking an illness or whatnot. After that, she can stay in, snuggled up to her cat, Dusty, and stay curled up in front of her tv with a warm mug of hot cocoa in her hands and an episode of The Office playing quietly in the background. (This, she decides, smiling internally, is her ideal day.) She’s almost ready to give in, leaning back to book it, the idea of leaving almost too enticing. Instead, she finds herself placing one foot in front of the other. Y/N doesn’t even know what motivates her to take that step forward, the step that began to lead her to those terrifying glass doors, but she’s managed to take a second step, then a third, a fourth, and—
A rush of warmth surrounds her, sending a shiver through her body, and she immediately misses the cold outdoor winds that previously nipped at her ears. Y/N doesn’t think she’s ever wanted to venture back out into the cold winter as much as she does at this moment. Her eyes stay trained on the ground, and she dreads the moment she’ll have to inevitably look up, so she doesn’t. Instead, she studies the marble floors (they’re really nice, she should consider investing in something similar, she thinks), until she hears a voice, practically coated with sugar, pipe up.
“Excuse me, Miss?” Her head whips up, swallowing nervously, and she’s greeted by a lady who looks to be in her mid-twenties with a sickly sweet smile plastered on her face (fake, no doubt, but really, who was she to judge?), head tilted in concern. “Are you lost?”
She considers saying no just to turn back around rather than face the fire, but she steels her nerves and sends her an abashed smile. “Yeah, I am. Would you mind helping me?” And Y/N nearly cringes at her attempts to be polite but continues anyways. “I’m an intern, Y/N Y/L/N?”
She isn’t really listening when the receptionist lady answers, and she knows she should’ve, but she listens to the lady drone on, the same smile that didn’t seem to reach her eyes glued to her face, and Y/N wonders what kind of toothpaste she uses to whiten. Somehow, Y/N finds herself being whisked away and up into the elevator, where she finally starts paying attention long enough to meet a kind woman who she remembers is named Nadine and would be her shadow for her time at Holland and Co.
She listens attentively (or at least she tries), as Nadine gives her a tour of the floor, and she can’t help but wish that she brought along a strawberry smoothie. She ends up so lost in thought that she nearly stumbles into Nadine after she stops abruptly, and Y/N peeks around her to see what’s happened. She’s startled when the noise reaches her ears, and she realizes that it’s a grown man backing away slowly from an office, pleading for someone to rethink their decision.
“Please, Mr. Holland, I’ll do better next time, please—” Y/N hears the slam before she sees it, yelping quietly at the shock of it, the noise still reverberating through the office. Her eyes blow wide, mouth gaping. She hopes she never comes in contact with this Mr. Holland.
Y/N finds that the tour ends quickly after that.
-
It’s not that Tom’s a cruel person.
He doesn’t jerk off to the thought of firing employees — he’s most certainly not a masochist — it’s just that he works with absolute morons. So really, what’s he supposed to do when some twat from accounting screws up some simple numbers that cost his company 10,000 pounds? (it’s not like his company can’t afford it, but the thought still makes a scowl form on his face) The only reasonable choice he can make is to fire the man, and it certainly isn’t his fault if the twit stumbles out of his office blubbering about how he’ll do better. And it definitely isn’t his fault if a cute, smoothie-loving intern witnesses the whole thing, because why does it matter if a bloody intern is afraid of him? (at least, that’s what he tries to convince himself)
(spoiler alert: it doesn’t work)
-
It’s day two, and Y/N thinks she’s made some friends.
She’s promised to bring each of them a smoothie (“They’re the light of my life,” she’d said, “can’t live without ‘em.”), which explains why she’s currently juggling four smoothies, one for herself and each of her new friends and, Sarah, Jacqueline, and Mike, while arriving at work at 6:50 in the morning. She’s so focused on carrying the drinks, eyeing each one with a careful precision that she fails to see the man donning a crisp suit (expensive. Gucci, maybe?), and a stern expression on his face, walking in front of her. She doesn’t realize that he’s been eyeing her the entire time, face softened into an unusual smile, rarely seen around the office. And she definitely doesn’t notice when he stops walking — at least, not until it was too late.
It all happens in slow motion to Y/N. She watches, helpless, as the smoothies in her hand tipped, and as Tom Holland, CEO of Holland and Co., turned around to be met with not one, nor two, nor three, but four strawberry smoothies. His mouth gapes, and hers does too, a quiet but sharp “oh fuck,” spilling from her lips. She stands, motionless, for less than a second before she’s sprung in motion, leaping for the nearest towels, endless apologies spewing from her lips.
This is it. Months of effort to even be considered for this position, and she’s fucked it up on the second day.
Y/N waits, eyes closed, preparing for the inevitable blow of being fired, the humiliation she’d face (god knows the entire floor was already staring at them wide-eyed), but to her surprise, it never comes. Instead, the towels are plucked from her hands, and her eyes snap open to be met with the prettiest face she thinks she’s ever come across, amusement flitting through their eyes.
“Don’t do that again, yeah, love?” And he’s gone, strolling away from her stunned form, so casually that Y/N wonders how he can ignore the smoothie dripping off his suit so easily. The rest of the floor stare after him as well, each of them with eyes blown wide and mouths hanging open.
-
Tom has no idea what just happened.
He’s got smoothie dripping from his suit that — mind you — was quite possibly one of his most expensive clothing investments, and he’s not even that angry about it. He isn’t really sure what had happened. He remembers looking over at the intern, Y/N, he remembers (and god, was she adorable), and then suddenly being drenched in a thick, gooey substance that suspiciously smelled like strawberries. Had it been anybody else, Tom’s sure they’d be out of his company faster than they could blink. But there was something about Y/N that captivated him, and he isn’t sure he’d be able to handle firing her over such a trivial mistake (of course, he’s fired employees over less, but he dismisses that thought). So instead, he’d strolled away as casually and as quickly as he possibly could force himself to act, trying to disguise the red blush that would’ve surely risen to his cheeks and turned his ears a bright, piercing red. His heart had pounded in his chest, so loud he wonders if Y/N had heard it, and as soon as he was out of sight, he’d darted into his office and shut the door.
His heart is still pounding in his chest, and he has no idea how some intern he’s never even said more than three sentences to can have such an impact on him. (Tom almost considers turning to Harrison for advice, but he would prefer not to be called a sap for the rest of his life) So, he strips himself of his smoothie-soaked suit jacket and prays to avoid any future interaction with Y/N.
-
Of course, Tom’s wish refused to come true, because the next morning, walking into the building, he bumps into her again.
Well, not literally. He’s strolling leisurely into the warm building, shooting a tight-lipped smile to the receptionist who always seemed to be showing a ridiculous amount of cleavage whenever he came around when he hears his name being called and the sound of approaching footsteps. Turning around, he crosses his fingers desperately, hoping that it was some other employee — preferably one that didn’t make his heart skip a beat at the mere thought of them.
But he’s still met with the sight of Y/N running through the doors of the building, regardless of his desperate wishes. It only takes a few seconds for her to catch up to his still figure, and when she does, she bends over, panting with her hands resting on her knees.
“Holy fu— sorry, language. M’so out of shape,” Y/N heaves, straightening up and wiping at her head, “you’re so fast, wow—” Tom finds himself unable to respond, head dizzy from her presence. He’s pretty sure if she knew he was taking such deep breaths because she smelled so oddly intoxicating, she’d call him a creep and run away and never speak to him ever again. He thinks she smells like vanilla, which is so common that he wonders how she can make it work so well, and—
“Mr. Holland?” Y/N’s hand waves in front of his face, and Tom snaps out of his daydream to muster up a charming smile for her. “Were you listening?”
Tom hums, nodding his head to show he was interested — a common courtesy. She shot him a suspicious glance but returned his smile nonetheless. “Well,” she started, clapping her hands together, “I brought you something — to say sorry for spilling my smoothies on you yesterday.” Tom doesn’t really know what to expect, but as she reaches into her purse, he’s definitely not expecting her to pull out a small pastry wrapped in a Greggs wrapper, neatly folded into a small rectangle.
“It’s a sausage roll,” Y/N explains, pushing it into his hands, “from Greggs. I just love their sausage rolls, and I just passed one as I was pulling into work, so I thought I’d buy you one as an apology.” At this point, he’s working overtime to not consciously drool over the sausage roll in his hands, because he’s sure that Y/N would run for the hills if she saw him so unprofessional.
So, he musters up a polite nod, a smile, and a: “Thank you, love.” And she takes that as her cue to scurry off, with a wave to the receptionist who’s not so inconspicuously scowling at her, and she’s out of Tom’s sight.
He stares after her until she’s completely out of his sight, and when she’s gone, he breathes a sigh of relief.
He’s got an issue on his hands.
---
When Y/N tells her new friends about the traumatic incident that had occurred the previous day, she finds that they’ve taken to staring at her in awe, because holy shit, you’ve spilt four smoothies on the most temperamental CEO in the business and yet you’re still here. (how reassuring. mind the sarcasm.)
“Are you joking?” Mike stares at Y/N, mouth open so wide that Y/N’s curious if his jaw is achy yet. “If that were me, I would’ve been fired quicker than I could’ve said sorry. And he called you ‘love’ too? Man, you’ve got him wrapped around your little pinky finger.” (Y/N’s sure they’re just saying this to make her feel better — after all, it’s not every day you spill four smoothies on a multi-millionaire CEO)
“I bet Mr. Holland’s got the hots for you,” Sarah whispers, turning her head to make sure nobody important is in earshot (because anything can set Mr. Holland off, really), “you could probably bust up all of his cars and he’d smile at you, babe.”
“Yeah,” Jacqueline butts in, and Y/N sends her a frown because this entire time they’d been talking, Jacqueline had been quietly filing papers (or at least that’s what Y/N thought), only to realize she’d actually been listening in the entire time, “Mr. Holland likes you— like, like likes you.”
Y/N snorts, sending Jacqueline an unamused stare. “What is this, middle school? M’sure he’s just being nice, s’all.”
Sarah scoffs, raising her eyebrows disbelievingly. “Yeah, right, and I’m a millionaire,” she jokes sarcastically, glancing at Y/N with a lopsided grin on her face. “Trust me. Mr. Holland is anything but nice.”
But Y/N can’t seem to believe that. Surely, he wasn’t that horrible, right?
-
Days pass and Tom hasn’t seen Y/N in a while, and although he has to admit that popping out a stiffy in the middle of a business proposal at the thought of her isn’t the most enticing, he’s starting to miss her. (of course, the only interaction he’s truly had with her is the disaster that cost him a fortune at the dry cleaners, but he still admires her from afar in the least stalker-y way possible)
Most employees would find it beneficial to have the least contact with Tom as possible. It’s been a bit of a known fact that when called into his office, chances are, they’d be leaving with their belongings in a box. So when Nadine, her supervisor, tells Y/N that he’d like to see her in his office, (and in a very loud tone, at that, so now she’s got the whole office staring after her as she shamefully trudges to Tom’s office) she’s quite terrified. She’d only heard horror stories about what went on in his office, and she’s really come to love the company and crosses her fingers and toes that he isn’t going to terminate her internship. (maybe, Y/N thinks, Tom changed his mind about the smoothie incident. Or even worse, he hated the sausage rolls)
So needless to say, Y/N is just about ready to piss herself pushing open the door to his office, because she remembers what happened on her first day and she has no desire to receive the same treatment. As soon as she sees Tom, sitting in his office chair sorting a few papers, she’s already immediately blurting out a plea.
“If you’re going to fire me, please just make it quick.” Tom’s face twists into one of confusion, and he chuckles. (my god, was she dense.)
“Fire you?” He laughed, placing the papers to the side. “The opposite, actually. When your internship finishes, I was going to offer you a permanent job here at Holland and Co. Unless you don’t want it?” The grin that he offers her is so cheeky that Y/N considers saying no just to wipe the smile off his face for scaring the shit out of her like that, but she isn’t nearly rich or petty enough to refuse such a huge proposal. So instead, she nods eagerly, holding in a squeal that threatens to burst out of her throat, and thanks him profusely. What Tom doesn’t expect is for her to pull him into a tight hug, and he’s floored. (he realizes that he really enjoys her hugs.) When she’s pulled back, her face has contorted into one of embarrassment, and she mumbles an awkward apology before she escorts herself out of the door.
(Tom’s grateful, because maybe then, she wouldn’t have seen the blush that tinted his tan cheeks a rosy red.)
-
Tom has a problem.
He’s found that he’s got a crush on one of his company’s interns, Y/N. A real, massive, red-faced, crush on her. In fact, he’s found himself looking forward to seeing her when he can — even though he only sees her a handful of times in a month — and yet, he feels an oddly joyful twisting in his gut when she directs that brilliant smile of hers towards him. He’s realized that she’s weaseled her way into his heart and life, and truth be told, he really has no problem with it. Even embraces it, at that.
So yes, he’s got a problem.
-
Tom is absolutely fucking exhausted.
He’s just about ready to go home, make himself a cuppa, and crash in his obnoxiously soft bed. He’s sure that the company is empty by now because it’s well over the time they get dismissed, so he stumbles out of his office before closing and locking the door. Tom scans the room a final time, ready to leave, but his eyes catch a dim light left on in the back, and he rolls his eyes to go check, annoyed at whichever wanker decided to leave the lights on before they left. So he’s certainly caught off guard when he comes across Y/N tapping away at her computer, sat in her little cubicle.
“Y/N?” Tom asks cautiously, brows furrowed. He has no idea what she’s still doing here, especially since she was supposed to leave at five and the sky outside has already darkened drastically.
“Holy fucking shit—” she screeches, her arms jerking up to cover her mouth, “oh my God, Mr. Holland, you scared the shit outta me.” He finds it quite adorable that she’s sitting there, eyes wide, a hand placed on her heaving chest.
“What’re you still doing here?” Tom questions, because he hasn’t known a single person who would stay past the time they were supposed to return home, and he wasn’t expecting an intern of all people to do so at all.
“I was gonna leave soon, promise, s’just that I almost had this done, so I just wanted to stay to finish it.” Tom nods thoughtfully, switching his briefcase from his right hand to his left, and beckons her to follow him to the parking garage.
“Well come on then, I’ll walk you to your car.” And although Y/N appreciates the thought, (a foolish one, to be honest, because what university student can afford a bloody car?) she shakes her head.
“Well, I was just planning on walking home, because it’s not too far, y’know, and—“
“No way you’re walking home at — 9 at night!” Tom scoffs, checking his watch. He’s gotten way too attached to her to let her put herself in any sort of danger, so he proposes the only idea he could think of in the spur of the moment— “I’ll drive you home, darling.”
“I couldn’t ask you to do that, Mr. Holland,” she protests, shaking her head wildly, “besides, I’m sure it’s not even on the route, so—“ He interrupts her yet again, (a repeating occurrence, she realizes) shaking his head.
“Nonsense. Come on, now. The sooner we get you back, the better.” And with that, Y/N watches him turn around, followed by her trailing behind him like some sort of lost puppy.
It’s not long until they arrive in the parking garage, but Y/N sees a stunning Rolls Royce and gushes over it internally. She’s ready to pass it by, wave goodbye at it, (call her dramatic, but it isn’t every day you can admire a sleek red Rolls Royce in person) but instead, they stop in front of it.
Y/N, who experiences an odd sense of deja vu, crashes into his sturdy back in response. Tom raises an eyebrow, amused, and shoots his hand out to steady her. “Thank god you didn’t have any smoothies this time, hm?” Y/N watches as he moves to the driver’s seat, opening the door, but pauses when he catches sight of her frozen figure.
“What’s the matter, love?” He grins, his hand resting lazily on the open door. Y/N stays where she stood, too terrified to even approach the vehicle (because let’s be real, if she fucked anything up, she’d have to sell every single one of her internal organs to pay it back).
“Oh—Oh fuck— sorry, but shit, Mr. Holland, there’s no way you can expect me to get in that car,” she swallows, backing up slightly, “that’s gotta cost more than I would if I sold myself on the black market.”
Tom simply chuckles, and Y/N’s heart sort of bursts at the sound since it’d been her first time hearing the joyous sound. He ducks his head to crawl into the luxurious car with a simple, “Alright, doll, just get in,” and she practically scrambles to the passenger seat. (as reluctant as she was, she wasn’t thrilled to walk the long trek home in the slightest.)
She’s barely halfway inside the car before she’s already cramping herself to occupy a smaller area of space despite the spacious interior. Tom notices at the same time, tilting his head as he watches her cautiously press the seatbelt into its buckle as if she’d shatter the buckle with too much pressure.
“You look like I‘ve just forced you into an airtight box, love.” He mutters casually, placing a hand on the back of her seat to reverse out of the garage, “Loosen up for me, alright? Where am I dropping you off?”
She gives him an address, and he programs it into his phone. “Well, look at that, darling, you’re right on my route home.” (he’s lying, but she really doesn’t need to know that they essentially live on opposing sides of London, because the last thing he wants her to do is to leave and walk home) He can see her exhale a sigh of relief and grin, and that alone is enough for Tom not to feel an ounce of regret about his choice.
-
In hindsight, this was a great idea.
Now, Tom’s not too sure, because she’s got the radio on now, and she’s singing like nobody’s there and it makes Tom’s heart grow three sizes too big. If he’s being honest with himself, he’s starting to fall for her, further than any point of return, and if anyone saw them in that car in that very moment, they’d see him staring at her with the softest gaze anyone had ever seen on the seemingly apathetic CEO in a long time.
It’s when they approach Y/N’s apartment building that something happens. Y/N whispers out a thank you, and she’s almost out of his car, that Tom catches a glimpse of her phone wedged in the cup holders, and he reaches out for her wrist, calling out for her to wait. He doesn’t expect her to unceremoniously tumble back into his car and lap with a squawk from the sudden tug on her wrist.
“S—Sorry!” Tom yelps, a flush crawling up his neck, and it’s then that he realizes how close their faces were. If he were to lean down in the slightest, their lips would meet and— “Your phone! You forgot your phone!”
Y/N never really had the ability to think rationally in unforeseen situations. Which is maybe why she can’t help but lean up and press a quick kiss to his lips, stunning into silence, but it’s not even her fault, truthfully! (it is, but she tries to give herself the benefit of the doubt) She’d never seen him so uncomposed and flustered, and it was honestly the most adorable thing she’d ever seen.
Her eyes blink at her sudden bold attitude, and then she’s scrambling out the car, maneuvering herself in a way that she wouldn’t headbutt Tom, and she’s gone, running into the building with a loud stuttered “sorry!” Tom loses sight of her, still staring after her, dazed, one singular thought running through his head.
Holy fuck.
-
Tom calls Harrison as soon as he gets home. Harrison arrives in ten minutes flat. (“God, you’re such a drama queen. I’m on my way.”)
“C’mon, mate, don’t just stand there and call me a sap, what do I do?” Tom groans, throwing a toy to Tessa who lay on the couch beside his body, staring at him with a peculiarly knowing look, and Tom groans again because even his damn dog knew about his dilemma.
“She probably likes you, you div,” Harrison grins, raising his voice to imitate Y/N. “Mr. Holland is just… so hot! I dream about kissing him every night!”
“Oi, come off it, you dickhead, she doesn’t even sound like that,” Tom mutters, shoving Harrison to the side. “Probably didn’t even mean shit to her, just like, a friendly kiss or summat.” Tom knows it was more than that. If the amorous gazes and gestures were anything to go by, it would be easy to mistake them as head over heels for one other (unfortunately for them, it’s not exactly a mistake to assume they’re goners for each other, because it’s absolutely true).
Harrison shoots him a look. “Yeah, mate, I kiss all my friends too. S’just a normal friend thing, innit? Now c’mon, gimme a nice smooch.” Harrison teases, puckering his lips to make obnoxious smacking noises towards Tom. He’s met with a pillow to the face, and he laughs, throwing his head back. “You’re so whipped, mate.”
Maybe just a little, Tom thinks.
-
The next morning, Tom’s prepared to man up and do something about his hopeless crush on Y/N. He’s got his entire speech planned out, in fact.
He’ll start it off by handing her a muffin. Chocolate chip, to be specific. And then, he’ll woo her with a romantic speech, as follows: “Y/N, I think I’ve liked you ever since you spilled those drinks on me. I’ve been wanting to ask you to dinner for a while now, and the kiss we shared last night was amazing. So, will you go out with me?” (it sounds better in his head, it really does)
But none of that happens, because when he catches her eye, he beelines for her and they both let out a rush of words at once.
“I brought you something—“
“Last night was a mistake—“
Tom stops, mouth drying at her words. “Sorry, what?”
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Holland, that was so unprofessional of me to kiss you. We can just forget it ever happened if that’s alright.” And Tom’s mouth snaps shut, his hopeful words dying on his tongue before they could escape. Y/N stood in front of him, wringing her hands, a smoothie by her side. “I brought you a smoothie to apologize — you seemed like a Berry Blast kind of guy. Hope that’s alright.” She hands him the smoothie, unaware of Tom’s internal battle because damn it all to hell, he so desperately wanted that kiss to mean something to her and no, he never wanted to forget about it. He sends her a pained, restrained smile, accepting the smoothie she holds as a peace offering and tries to retreat to his office.
“Wait, Mr. Holland!” Y/N cries out, running to tap his shoulder, “What were you saying? I cut you off earlier.”
Tom carefully hides the chocolate chip muffin behind his back, shaking his head. “It was nothing, you took the words right out of my mouth.” Tom laughs, and yet the sound is so forced it almost makes him wince. Y/N’s smile drops for the slightest moment before it’s up on her face again.
“Oh, alright then!” She smiles, waving her hand towards him, “Have a nice day then!”
Tom decides he most certainly will not.
-
“You guys are such bloody wankers!” Y/N cries as soon as she reaches her cubicle, “Y’said he liked me! And just now, he told me that he wanted to forget about the kiss too. God, I’m so humiliated! I might as well just go on and die from humiliation now—“
“Okay, babe, chill,” Sarah tries, but to no avail.
“—I can see the headlines already! ‘Intern kisses boss, gets rejected and dies.’ Fuckin’ hell—“ Y/N’s mini-rant is cut off by Sarah’s hand coming to clamp over her mouth, muffling any sound, but quickly yanks her hand back at the feeling of Y/N’s tongue licking a stripe across her palm.
“I’m sure everything’ll be fine, no harm done. He’ll forget about it in two days flat, promise.” Sarah reassures her, patting her back awkwardly.
-
“For fuck’s sake, mate,” Tom grumbles, head in his hands, “you said she was into me!” Tom’s in shambles because as far as he knows, he’s just humiliated himself in front of the girl he’s taken a liking to.
Harrison laughs at his distressed state teasingly, tossing a pen in the air and catching it to cease his boredom. “M’sure she was just doing what she thought you’d want — hope you realize you aren’t the most approachable guy.”
“Fuck off, you div,” Tom mutters, tossing a highlighter at Harrison’s head, “I resent that, mate.”
-
The next time Tom interacts with her, it’s not for at least a month. (he needed the time to shake off his humiliation.)
It’s so similar to the previous time that it makes Tom’s heart clench at the memory of her soft lips on his. This time though, it’s because the weather outside was pouring buckets that flooded the streets and soaked everything in contact. So it’s not even a question of ‘maybe’ before Tom’s already insisting on driving her home.
“Love, there’s no way in hell that I’m letting you walk through that rain,” Tom tells her, already pulling on his jacket. “Now c’mon, what kind of boss would I be if I didn’t drive you home?”
Y/N reluctantly agrees, shutting down her computer and picking her purse up from under her desk. “Alright. But you’ve got to promise me that I’m not a bother, Mr. Holland.”
“Never,” Tom promises, placing a hand on her arm to gently guide her to the exit. “D’you want me to pull the car up? I know it’s raining pretty hard out there, don’t want you to get wet or summat.” He picks up on his unintentional innuendo too late, his cheeks and ears flushing a thorough red blush. “Not—not like that, I mean like—”
“No, no, it’s alright, I can survive a little rain.” Tom’s never been more grateful for Y/N ignoring his slip-up, because he’s sure that if she’d acknowledged it, Tom would’ve stayed red for the next century or so. (get it together, he tells himself, she’s just a girl, and you’re not a virgin, you moron,)
The drive to her place is quiet apart from her loud singing, but the real dilemma comes when they pull up to the door.
“For fuck’s sake, I—ugh.” Y/N groans, hand leaving her purse dejectedly. “I’ve locked myself out. Don’t even have a spare key.” Tom’s headgears are already turning before she can finish her sentence. “S’alright, I’ll just call my landlord and sleep with a neighbour or something.”
“Why don’t you come sleep at my house?” Tom offers, and Y/N is quick to refuse, insisting that she’s already a bother, and she wouldn’t force him to deal with her presence any longer. “I already promised you weren’t a bother, darling.”
When Y/N buckles up her seatbelt again, she’s expecting Tom to just continue down the road, but instead he makes a swift u-turn and drives back down the same road the came from.
“Mr. Holland! You told me my apartment was on route to yours — why’ve we turned ‘round?” She gapes, head spinning to look back through the window towards her flat. Tom gives her a cheeky shrug, flicking his windshield wipers to a higher speed as the rain came down harder and obstructed his view of the road.
“Must’ve slipped my mind,” he mutters, sending her a smile. “Plus, that’s Tom to you outside of work — Mr. Holland is my dad, love.”
-
Tom doesn’t know how he’s gotten into this position.
He’s got Y/N in his arms, sound asleep, wearing his shirt, sleeping on his bare chest, and his mind is still hazy from the kisses they shared that night. He remembers how they walked into his penthouse, and Y/N had gushed over everything inside, (“holy shit, Mr—Tom, you have a fucking fluffy bath mat? I’ve always wanted one!”) and awed over his dog Tessa, (“ohmigod, you have a bloody dog too? You’re like… the perfect man!” and Tom has to admit that he took this in a different way, because he would love to be Y/N’s perfect man.) Tom had set up his Netflix for her to browse as he prepared them both a warm cuppa, and he’d returned to see Y/N and Tessa cuddled up in a blanket he’d brought for her. The sight tightened his chest, and really, everything from there is a blur.
The main part that he remembers is that they kissed. (and oh, did they kiss)
“You’ve driven me bloody insane, darling,” Tom admitted, pulling her in for a kiss that frazzled her nerves and curled her toes. Y/N’d pulled away, gasping for air, and Tom trailed light kisses down the length of her neck, his arms wrapping themselves around her waist.
“What’re we doing, Tom?” She’d asked between kisses that he’d pressed to her face.
“What I’ve been wanting for a long while, love.”
And here he was, her head heavy on his chest, nose tucked into the crook of his neck, and Tom’s never felt more at peace. Y/N blinks awake, yawning softly and blinking blearily before she readjusts herself, pulling her body to lay on top of his.
“You’re my… my pillow now, m’kay?” She murmurs, reaching up to press a kiss to his jaw.
Tom smiles, tightening his hold on the sleepy girl, humming. He’s pushing her hair back to kiss her forehead, and Tom decides that he’s never been happier.

Family Reunion
A/N: This is my entry for the “Marvel Secret Santa!” hosted by @borhapparker. This if for @thebookwormslytherin, I hope you enjoy this! I tried my best :) Happy Holidays!
Summary: y/n is a sophomore in college. She needs to go to a family reunion, but she doesn’t have a date. She asks her friend Wanda to set her up with someone to go with.
Word Count: 1204
-----------
Getting to class, you were glad to see that the seat next to your best friend, Wanda, was still open. You slipped right in, bumping her slightly on purpose. Pulling out your earbuds, you took out your laptop to take notes on the lecture.
When the teacher started explaining the same thing for the tenth time, you opened the google doc that you used to communicate with Wanda. This way the teacher doesn’t know you guys were talking to each other.
Come on, can you please help me out you really cant find any1? NO and im desperate ;) Wanda i swear Ok ill find someone You are a lifesaver ily and iou one
After both of you finished your classes for the day, you and Wanda went out for some Starbucks, which you paid for as a token of your appreciation. The majority of the time was spent ranting about different professors you both had, but at the end she let you know she found someone. You smiled, thanking her again.
“He’ll stop by your room so you guys can set up a cover story.”
You nodded, you both walking your separate ways to get to your dorm rooms. Once you got there, you made sure to pick up around. You made your bed. Not knowing who was coming made you more inclined to make the room presentable. Hearing a knock at the door, you opened it without looking through the peephole. Your eyes widened slightly as you looked up at the man in the doorway.
Bucky Barnes aka the man you’ve had a crush on since freshman year.
You were going to kill Wanda.
“Hey.”
“Hi,” you moved aside, letting him come into the room. You had a single, last year you learned not to go random on a roommate again. It was worth paying a little extra in the long run not to have to deal with a stranger.
“Thank you so much for doing this for me.”
“It’s no big deal.”
You sat on your bed, becoming quiet. You were a shy person, and being alone with Bucky Barnes in your room didn’t help that.
Bucky pulled the chair out from your desk. He made it face you so that it would be easier to talk. You picked at the covers on your bed.
“So the story,” he asked.
“Right. I was thinking we could say we started dating at the beginning of the school year, so a solid four months, that’s also why you have never been brought up before.”
His blue eyes met your brown ones. He nodded.
“That’s believable. We can say where we actually met- calculus.”
You were surprised he remembered. “Yep. I’ll just say I was infatuated with you since day one.” Which isn’t a lie.
“I’ll say that after hearing you talk about derivatives, I was smitten,” he grinned. You rolled your eyes, giving him a small smile.
“Wow. That was easy.”
Bucky picked you up for the reunion. He knocked on your door, you let him in as you put the finishing touches on your look. You tucked a strand of your brown hair behind your ear, giving yourself a once over. You guys had hung out the day before, making sure you each knew a bit about the other to keep your stories straight. Once you were ready, you both left.
“Barnes, this is going to mess up my hair.”
“You’ll be fine, just put it on and hold on tight. Rather you be safe with a helmet.”
“You aren’t wearing one!”
“Because you’re using mine. Come on, let’s go.”
He got on first, watching you expectantly. You put on the helmet, getting on the motorcycle behind him. You held on loosely at first, but once he started, you tightened your grip. It didn’t take too long to get to where you needed to be. Bucky made sure to adhere to all traffic rules to be safe, not wanting to do anything that could harm or scare you.
Once at the reunion, everyone kept giving the two of you glances. It was the first time you had ever brought anyone with you, and you had never talked about having a partner.
Your favorite cousin was the first person to come up to you.
“Why are you late?”
“Sorry man, I was busy.”
Your cousin wiggled their eyebrows at you.
“The only thing I rode was that motorcycle, chill.”
Bucky raised an eyebrow at your statement. He had not expected something so, so vulgar to come out of your mouth. He guessed he still had a lot to learn about you.
The rest of the night almost went by without a hitch. It wouldn’t be a family reunion if everything went according to plan. When everyone was sitting down to eat dinner, that was when people started questioning your relationship.
“So how long have you been dating my daughter?” your father asked.
“A few months, sir.”
“You treat her well?”
“Yes, sir.” He glanced at you, trying not to be intimidated. You were watching your dad like a hawk, trying to make sure he didn’t say anything inappropriate.
“How’d you lose the arm?”
“Dad.”
“Can’t I be curious? Did you lose it in a fight? You look like the type.”
“Dad! You can’t just say stuff like that. You can’t just assume something about a person. He doesn’t have to tell you anything. He didn’t even have to come with me, but he wanted to be a supportive boyfriend and come anyway!”
Even though you didn’t look intimidating, Bucky did not want to be on the other side of that stare down or conversation. He looked between the two of you, not sure if he should step in.
“I lost it-”
“Nope, Bucky. Story for another time. We’re leaving.”
“Y/N?”
You grabbed his hand, pulling him outside. You didn’t bring anything that you had to worry about grabbing before you left. You let go of his hand once you reached his motorcycle.
“Y/N, you didn’t have to do that.”
“It’s fine. You should not be forced to say anything. He doesn’t have the right.”
Bucky gave you a small smile.
“You know, I wasn’t lying about derivatives.”
“What?”
“I told you as a part of the story I was smitten from once you started talking about derivatives. I wasn’t lying.”
You gave him a confused smile. He was attracted to you? Maybe he just didn’t know the definition of smitten. That thought left your head when his eyes glanced down to your lips, then back at your eyes. He gave a small smile before leaning in for a kiss. You kissed back for a few moments before you both pulled away. You both were giddy as you rode his motorcycle back to the dorm rooms.

Pacing quickly around her room in a long, frustrated circle, Lisette’s worries were quickly drawing to a boiling point.
lisette’s circles make me long and frustrated am I right fellow dudes
Typically, she was a very easy-going person, the kind of girl who’d shrug off most concerns and instead focus on keeping a positive outlook. However, after spending her entire morning going through the motions, feeling trapped in a listless, uneasy funk, even she couldn’t help but be affected. It was almost noon already and still she couldn’t move her thoughts past yesterday’s tea party, to the look she’d seen weathered across Alto’s face.
Lisette is right to be threatened and uneasy. this is like the scene in the opening where the village is getting crystallized and its too late for rosa and shes like SAVE YOURSELF except instead its sexification
She hadn’t had the courage to say anything at the time, but it had haunted her thoughts ever since. Making it worse, when she’d attempted to find her mother to ask her for her advice, she hadn’t been able to find her anywhere, so she’d wound up simply spending the previous night with Marie.
the ghosts of the last chapter vaguely implying alto is too horney to sleep in the same bed as marie have returned and im frightened
“He’s… he’s still on edge, isn’t he?”
Tumblr media
It wasn’t right. The fighting was over and peace had been won, but even when he should have been relaxing with his friends, Alto was still wearing the same guarded, strained expression. It was the same heart-breaking look she’d seen from her friend all throughout their battles, at all the times she’d stood at his die, watching him make the most difficult decisions of his life.
STOOD AT HIS DIE
She didn’t think any of the others had noticed. Perhaps she was the only one that would even be able to recognise the difference, after all, she was the only one who’d known him before all this. Back in Mithra he hadn’t been anything like that, he’d smiled freely and his gaze had was always carefree, to the point of being cheeky. Their entire lives had changed ever since she became a Witch and he followed to become her Knight… but she’d always hoped all this time that it could still return to how it was when everything was finally over.
“No,” she corrected herself, her body sagging with a deep sigh. There wasn’t any point lying to herself about this, “I’m not that naïve, I always knew it wouldn’t be that easy…”
“gee” said lisette out loud to herself with no one else around, “I am lisette from the video game stella glow. I am five foot four and my blood type is
Because, she knew Alto. And she knew, for him, that it had never been about the battles. He didn’t fear fighting, he would recklessly throw himself into danger without even a second’s thought if it meant he could help someone. As she’d told him so many times, his overwhelming compassion was both his best and worst trait. He was courageous to the point of stupidity, all he cared about was protecting the people important to him, keeping the people he loved safe and happy, as best he could. That was all the fighting had ever meant to him. And that was why she’d always known it couldn’t possibly be that easy for him.
im giving this alto analysis a 2 alto is a liberal degenerate who really loves hunting and also u dont know anything about him jl “AWOOOGAA” davenport if u tell me about him again ill kill you
Crying out in annoyance, Lisette slumped across the room and threw herself onto her bed, sinking deep into the large, soft mattress as if to try let it absorb a fraction of her worries.
I cannot shake the feeling he was thinkin bout her tiddies when he wrote this
‘Alto’s still fighting, even now,’ she knew that. It was a truth she’d struggled to deal with for days now, ‘The war isn’t over for him yet, because he’s still pushing himself to try find a way to keep every one of us happy.’
fuckin dumb ass horny ass bitch. mediocre ass, pathetic ass, money grubbing, fucking stupid bitch ass you dont put apostrophes around thoughts its ugly as shit
It was a painful thought, the elephant in the room and something she hated thinking about. But somehow, not thinking about it, pretending to simply ignore had become even worse.
does lisette know what an elephant is. does that expression exist. this is third person limited so its kind of weird to use that kind of anachronism
After all, if Alto was still fighting, then she wanted to fight alongside him! She was his family, his comrade, his first Witch and even his (prospective) girlfriend,
I had to cut this off because it was next level dumbshit literally anyone is his prospective girlfriend with that state of their relationship. im his prospective girlfriend
there wasn’t a single part of her that wanted to do anything less than to support him with all her might. He was a part of her soul. He was the man she loved and someone who she would never allow herself to be separated from, she’d known those feelings for absolute certainty ever since the moment she’d woken up from death’s door and travelled around the world to stand at his side. Just thinking about him wracking himself with worries and her not helping him was terrifying!
1.
Tumblr media
2. that last sentence is the worst written thing in, if not human existence, then the century
And, she spared a glance over at the mirror she’d been avoiding looking at all day, even aside from that, could she really say she was any different? Was she truly able to smile like before, only because their fighting was over?
hackles raised at the prospect of mirror kink
Lisette gave a dry laugh, reaching out and squeezing the small stuffed pig Popo had given her, pressing it against her considerable chest.
1. the pig is kinda cute like maybe but who tf is vending these smutfic items. who is crawling around in the back alleys selling cursed objects that make people horny as fuck. did ewan make a deal with the devil to sell all his twilight-zone-monkey-paw shit from his brief sponsorship with baddragon
2. die
3. lisette’s chest is CONSIDERABLE all right. it makes me CONSIDER ending it all
For all their outward appearances, in this, at least, she doubted it was any different from any of the others, no doubt that was why everything had seemed so off lately, “We’re all just stuck in limbo, aren’t we?”
this is the longest string of indirect pronouns ever like whomst??? and what an eerie sentence to end a section on. though u kno what stay in limbo
---------------------------------***********************---------------------------------
those dashes are containing the massive power of the cuss word. if even one of them falters or breaks formation the sheer obscenity would vaporize us all
Unfortunately for Lisette, her self-examination came with no easy answers or steps forward. Even though she’d accepted that being stuck in place as they were was only making things worse for all of them and particularly for Alto, there was no obvious solution she could latch onto, to change things.
this literally picks up? exactly where the previous section ended? like. with information that flows from the previous paragraph. if youre going to make that fucking big then why is it functionally useless
However, now more than ever, she was a determined woman and slowly -as the time passed and the morning faded away into early afternoon- slowly, her resolve held out and she was able to fearlessly consider even the truths she’d previously tried so hard to avoid.
why is this the ugliest formatting ive ever seen have you ever heard of an em dash or, a comma. also im losing shit at Determination Resolve Holding Out Shes Never Done This wasnt this like the sole bad point of her tunings
She knew she loved Alto, that he was the only man who’d ever made her feel complete
Tumblr media
But, she also knew that the other Witches felt just the same, she forced herself to accept the fact that he was just as important to them as he was to her.
ok nvm im not done being pissed at The Only Man like yeah lisette its called comphet im rewriting this so that lisette realizes shes a lesbian and also that whole Complete Her thing is all of whats wrong with lisettes arc like all of it this is what men do
It was something they’d all consciously avoided discussing, something that none of them seemed to know how to deal with. Her companions, the other Witches, were all as close as family to her, she loved them all dearly… And yet, they were all competing, in their own way, for the same man.
alto is three years old
She was sure they must feel just as awkward about that as her, there was a reason why even the ever impulsive Popo or the harsh-blunt Sakuya
tell u whats harshing my blunt........this fic ((takes a weed puff
had never said anything and why, no matter how much they talked and how much they shared, this single topic was never once addressed directly, they’d all been working on the same process as her- that it was too strange a situation and too difficult a conversation to deal with, that the best thing to do was simply wait till after the war when Alto would be able to reciprocate their feelings, and then there the problem would solve itself. Well… The war was over. And they were all still tiptoeing around each other’s hearts, all waiting for the same response from the same man. “We must all seem so silly.”
tf were they supposed to do to address it? like lets just accept the gross situation but was they supposed to so call everyone to a room lisette spins around in a big chair and says We’re Here To Discuss The Het or maybe this happens
Tumblr media
She could just imagine how ridiculous this situation must appear from the outside; five best friends all in love with the same man, all waiting for him to respond to their feelings and all marooned in the same silent stand-off, walking on eggshells while pretending everything was fine. No doubt her mother found it hilarious.
thats the worst line ive ever seen in my life. oedipus rex has nothing on this bitch
that aside like accepting them all as comphets for the moment. literally never interacted on a regular basis with another boy their age. except hilda I guess but it doesnt matter this is so dumb! yall is a bunch of trauma victims you cant just jump directly into the boinking
“Grrr! This is all your fault Alto! Stupid! Since when did you get so popular anyway!? You weren’t like that in Mithra! You’re just… you’re just too dependable… You mean so much to all of us, we can’t help but love you…”
deadass u told me this was dialogue from the anime where the tiddies bounced when the girl blinked? id believe it
He was their conductor. They all loved him. They all wanted to be with him. They were all waiting for him to favour only them…
dont like how its treated that its an absolute that witches will just fall for their conductor thats like sayin no one is safe around bi ppl. reach perhaps but its the same dumbass ideas
Perhaps that was the worst part of all. The more she thought about it, the more she was starting to realise just what an impossible situation their feelings and expectations had put Alto into. She knew better than anyone just how much he cared for each of them, she’d healed the scars on his body time and again that showed just how far he’d go to protect any of them… And yet, without ever really thinking how, they were all still asking him to then choose between them, to decide which of his Witches he loved the most.
Tumblr media
but also I just had the revelation that author does not know what romantic love is like, at all, and the smoke cleared I am enlightened and theres nothing I dont understand
And, she couldn’t help him at all, could barely even support him in what must be an incredibly painful choice for him. All she could do was leave it to him, and trust that when he did choose, that he felt the same way about her as she did about him and they would finally be together. As for the rest… She didn’t know… The thought of him choosing one of the others over her was almost too painful, to terrifying to consider, but the knowledge that her friends would have to go through that was no less terrible…
tired of u demonizing r*mantic love. fuck its th most exhilarating experience of my life. that and having a baby shark sit in my hands. dont give all these Oh No People Get Hurt to justify just fuckin whoever u want
That was the mire they were all stuck in. That was why Alto was still looking so stressed and why none of them had been able to move forwards. There wasn’t anything any of them could do and there was no way to make everyone happy. She frowned bitterly. ‘…Would… Would it even make us happy?’
me, who had never been as happy as I am prior to being in love: hell yeah bitch dis go hard as hell flocka
It was a strange thing to consider, something she’d never once thought before this very moment- she’d thought for so long she was waiting for Alto to return her feelings, she’d wanted so long to be with him and to be together forever. But, would she really be happy like that? Could she truly be happy being with the man she loved at the expense of watching the companions she held dear, the friends she’d bled and cried together with, becoming heartbroken? Mordi, Popo, Sakuya, and especially Hilda, after all they’d been through, after how important she knew Alto was to each of them… Her heart clenched in her chest just imagining it!
if this is a question then ur not in romantic love idiot! shut up
But… That was how it had to be, wasn’t it? They’d all been foolish enough to fall for the same man, there was only one Alto. No.
dumps the big ass mess of gl***ng pr**e poly edits here but im not saving it to my computer so u gotta imagine it
Lisette propped herself up on the bed, a previously unfathomable conclusion quickly becoming clear to her. No. She couldn’t accept that. And Alto surely wouldn’t accept that. He’d never accepted that they couldn’t stop the Eclipse. He hadn’t accepted that they couldn’t fight against God. And, at the end of everything, he’d refused to accept that Mother Qualia had to be their enemy. A solution that put the entire burden on Alto and led to all her friends being heartbroken? How could she ever accept that!? How could she ever have thought something like that would make her happy!? That wasn’t how they worked! They were the Tuning Knights, humans that had defeated God and saved Marie! They would never accept such a lukewarm compromise.
Tumblr media
fucking................mormons..................................
‘Well now,’ she laughed, ‘If I really think about it, the solution is pretty obvious, isn’t it?’ It was reckless and crazy, nothing at all like anything she’d ever imagined herself doing… But then, didn’t that just make it the same as everything else they’d done?
this isnt even how polyamory works!!!!!!!! sorry im not being funny I just really value r*mant*c love and listen NO ONE would just sit down and think “yes clearly the healthiest thing for the person my heart is devoted to is to juggle 6 relationships”
“Yup! I’m not gonna accept anything like that!” ultimately, all that mattered was the same conclusion she’d come to, ever since she’d returned to life. She already knew what she wanted, she just had to make it happen, “Alto, I’m by your side. Always. I’ll support you!”
hi im lisette and this is my boyfriend alto! we’re queering heterosexuality by having him fuck a ton of girls at once! swipe right if you want to hop on that dick. no gays allowed
---------------------------------***********************---------------------------------
me: this is bad content
jldavenport: h*mg*n*n*l*b*ng*s*gl*m
me: vaporized in silhouette against the wall from the sheer power
Finishing off a long day of meetings, reports and training, clad in his usual attire (sans the armour,
oh shit its sans thearmour!!!! gonna have a bad time that being said makes sense that hes european the gross fuck
Tumblr media
thankfully for him) and returning from the dormitory baths with a relieved sigh, Alto scarcely had time to close the door to his room behind him before he was suddenly jolted from his thoughts by an excited knocking. “Eh? Lisette?”
the phrase “dormitory baths” pisses me the fuck off where do you get off jldavenport. probably all over your keyboard but stop saying shit like that this isnt your canon bitch
A late-night visit from his orange haired friend wasn’t especially unusual, but to see her standing around in her Witches outfit
epithets, especially those that refer to hair color, are awful and amateurish but because he still doesnt know this apparently: Redhead. Is. A. Fucking. Word.
in her Witches outfit
Tumblr media
that wasnt good enough to warrant that large of an image but like that movie fucked me up so bad lets see what scars me worse the mouse scene or this fic
at this time of night certainly was. And even stranger than that, she was wearing the original outfit, the one she’d worn since the first time she’d awakened to her powers in Mithra, rather than the more dazzling Goddess robes she’d gained after he’d finally tuned her heart, ‘I suppose it’s probably easier to sit around in this one?’ If he had to wear something as flashy as any of the dresses the girls wore, he was sure he’d spent half his time worrying about ripping it.
honestly content notwithstanding this reads like an instructional on what NOT to do when writing. you write like this? dont. its very entry level like I cant say that I necessarily write better but do what I say not what I do
throwing the goddess thing out there is like him saying LOOK!!!! A FACT i KNOW ABOUT THE ACTUAL CANON!!!!!! HAHA
Despite standing staring at him from the hallway, with her face flushed and eyes not quite meeting his, she still hadn’t said anything, “Er, Lisette? Is something wrong?”
knocking on someones door and forgetting why ur there is a neurodivergent feel lisette has adhd now and theres nothing you can do about it
“Ah!” she jumped before finally shaking herself off and responding with a slight anxiousness, anxiety. see me after class “No, no not really. I just… I’ve had a lot of mind and I thought it’d be better if we could talk a bit? Do… Do you mind if we spend the night together, again?”
lisette u were literally talking to urself five minutes ago abt havin him fuck everyone and now ur all anime blushus. bitch
He swallowed, his mouth suddenly dry. She wanted to share his bed again? Spend the night holding hands like back then? Stopping himself short of giving her an answer, Alto suddenly realised just how imploringly she was looking up at him.
they literally used this exact Mouth Suddenly Dry thing last chapter do ppl who enjoy this fic actually like that r smthn. they get wet 4 the dry
“Huh, it’s not like you to actually ask…” He teased softly. Usually Lisette was far more insistent about this sort of thing, he’d normally expect her to simply march into his room and seat herself on his bed. He only realised as she spoke that for her to act like this, for whatever reason she was acting like this, it must be important to her that he did accept her request
ugly sentence. ugly, ugly sentence. ew. im actually so bored by this sentence im ceasing work on this for the night good bye
She didn’t want to force it on him. Still… He couldn’t help but hesitate. It was stupid, he knew, but he’d felt awkward spending time alone with any of the girls since after the war, lest any of them get the wrong idea.
Tumblr media
“get the wrong idea” DONT FUCKING WRITE ALTO LIKE THIS I AM IMMORTAL MY SKIN IS ADAMANTINE YOU SHALL FALL BEFORE ME
A moment passed and still Lisette didn’t say anything; clenching her hands nervously below her wait -and unintentionally pushing her impressive bust out even further towards him-
the commissioner, apparently upon seeing stella glow:
Tumblr media
she silently awaited his response. Blushing a little under her low gaze, Alto realised it was getting harder and harder to remember the days when he’d seen her just like a sister.
this proves its inhuman and disgusting because it gave me visceral flashbacks to fire emblem fates so lemme post some of my fave incest quotes from that, starting with the ones it made me astral project into
Tumblr media
2.
Tumblr media
did that last one haunt u because for a split second you imagined a world where lisette said them? good bc that shit keeps me up at night. im tired of cropping these quotes out so like we’re done my point has been made
In the end though, he couldn’t possibly deny her. Not for no reason, and not when she looked at him like that, “Yeah, of course Lisette. That sounds fun.”
the begging thing from the last chapter hit me full force in memory and I honestly hope it comes back bc ive got a dynamite joke locked and loaded
Breaking out into a bright smile, the Water Witch sagged in relief, taking him by surprise as she reached out to take his hand in hers, letting her body fall soft and warm against him as she did so. Her breath tickled hot across his collar and Alto’s heart jumped in shock!
DONT EVER USE EXCLAMATION POINTS LIKE THIS im serious. it is about as ugly, 2007-fanfic-net-core you can get.
Her hands felt smooth and gentle, wrapped warm around his…
HIS WHAT
Tumblr media
he’d felt that before, it was pleasant, although not anything new. But feeling her head falling lovingly to his shoulder like this and having her entire body now laying against his… His mouth went dry,
Wet 4 The Dry Confirmed
he could even feel her breasts pushing large and heavy against his own chest! ‘Woah… S-So soft… They’re even bigger than Rosa’s, aren’t they?’
can you believe this was written completely unironically? like, people find this hot? if it didnt deplete the experience of reading this fic id replace every line referencing boobs with a comment from nicki minaj’s instagram
Tumblr media
For just a split second, no matter how much of a gentleman he was, standing there like that, it was impossible for him not to compare the mother and daughter.
Tumblr media
WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SON
“Li-Lisette?” he choked out, desperately reigning in his thoughts before they rampaged down a dangerous direction. “Mmm, Alto, hehe, I’m glad,” she giggled happily, skipping back and beaming up at him as she tugged on his hands, leading him off, “Even just being like this with you, I feel better already!”
ok I have NO idea what movement theyre doing. shes like, skipping and then she comes back and takes his hands and idk probably his dick or something
Absolutely caught up in her rhythm, they were halfway down the hall before Alto finally realised she’d pulled him completely out of his room!
heres a coded message just for katt: e*****t w** d****** **m!the narration means he was aware she was pulling him so like where the fuck did he think he was going if not outside his room
“Uh, h-hey, Lisette? We’re going somewhere? I thought you wanted to go to sleep?” “That’s right,” she nodded simply, giving up and tugging him and instead falling into step beside him, “But your bed’s too small for it to be comfortable, so we’re gonna use my room instead!” Alto almost dug his heels in from sheer indignation!
im sorry. im sorry I had to cut this up but come on. come the fuck on. indignation. like she made a point and alto is all “insolent female requesting things of me” have you not met alto. authot is from r/incels
She’d come all this way to see him, just to drag him back to her room!? How self-indulgent could she be!? And, it wasn’t as if his bed back in Mithra had been any larger and she’d never complained before. Eventually, he just sighed and followed her lead, it wasn’t worth getting worked up over. If it would make her happier, then that was fine. It might be nice to spend a night in someone else’s room for a change too.
Tumblr media
Walking hand in hand through the halls like this was fairly embarrassing, thankfully it seemed that it was late enough that no-one else was around. He really, really didn’t want to suddenly run into Rusty like this, let alone Giselle, or Sakuya… Supressing a shudder, Alto hurried on.
“let alone giselle” wh???? I am so baffled by this. obviously rusty or sakuya would give him shit but whats giselle gonna do??? is alto being bullied by a robot?????? I want giselle to appear and smash alto’s frosting into the ground
“I won’t hesitate, bitch,” said Giselle, pointing her laser at altos dick and shattering it into one million individual pieces
Unlike the tiny spare room he’d been assigned so long ago now, Lisette, as a Witch, had been housed in the premium quarters on the other side of their dormitory.
stop. stop saying dormitory. this is not a college
Luckily in this case, unlike the Palace, the building wasn’t overly large so it was only a short trip to her room. They arrived a few minutes later, just as his heart was beginning to settle down.
what happened to the long ass aterisks break. oh god the swear word is coming isnt it
Unfortunately, the moment Lisette opened the door and they stepped inside, Alto’s breath was one again caught violently in his throat, “H-Hilda!?” And indeed, kneeling serenely atop a small cushion in the middle of the large room, the Time Witch was sipping calmly from her usual green ceramic tea-cup, as if there was nothing strange about her presence here at all.
I dont like how shes sitting on a pillow in the center of the room that sounds ritualisitic
(bangs pink cup on the ground) She Sits On The Sacrificial Fuck Pillow ((group of hooded figures behind me start chanting “Fuck Pillow! Fuck Pillow!”
Watching as she settled the drink aside, perfectly in synch with the sound of Lisette locking the door behind her, Alto’s mouth went dry.
theres so much wrong with the syntax and shit but im pushing that all aside to say how fucking difficult it is to sync sound like that even on purpose so yeah theyre def doing a cult sacrifice to the original sex god, elcrest
A moment of silence reigned and somewhere in the back of his currently panicking mind, the bewildered Conductor couldn’t help but notice that Hilda too was wearing her standard Witches’ outfit, the same form fitting black dress
“dress” very generous for mr boob grower
and wide sweeping hat she’d become associated with for so many years. However, in her case, this wasn’t much of a surprise. As far as he’d seen from the White-Haired woman, she didn’t seem to actually own any normal, casual attire and, while he knew she deeply adored he beautiful white dress she’d unlocked when he’d purified her lonely heart, he also knew that even she couldn’t help but feel rather self-conscious, wearing something that was practically a wedding dress as an everyday outfit, he hadn’t seen Hilda’s Goddess Robes since the end of the final battle.
I literally cannot read any part of this paragraph except the capitalization of White-Haired and Goddess Robes this was either written in the 1700s or modern day by me dissociating in a target bathroom this is so funny if the fic gets any funnier ill die
“Alto? I’m surprised. Isn’t it a bit late for you to be visiting a woman’s bedroom?”
horny dont got business hours babe
“Ah, H-Hilda! It’s, it’s not what you’re thinking, I, Lisette!? Wha-” “Relax Alto,” the Water Witch giggled softly as she stepped forward, taking his hand again, but this time wrapping herself around his arm, “She’s just teasing you.” “Wha… Abuh?”
this is harem anime/fire emblem dialogue right down to the “Abuh?” actually thats the defining thing you hear someone say that youre in a straight anime and you need to run for your fucking life
“My apologies,” Hilda nodded, offering him a small smile in recompense as she matched Lisette’s movements, taking hold of his other hand, her pale face burning bright red as her soft fingers entwined with his, “I just, got a little flustered seeing you so suddenly… I… I wasn’t sure what to say.”
ok first of all you cannot write hilda in any realm of possibility but also like this is yet another thing to not trust men for: emphasizing the whiteness of a womans skin. he is a racist, plain and simple
Her hand squeezed nervously around his and Alto realised just how easily he could feel her racing heart through the light fabric of her dress when she pulled his arm against herself. Not that Lisette was any different, he couldn’t possibly believe in the confidant front she was showing after knowing her as long as he had, not when he could feel her entire body trembling against him.
hilda is like two ft tall howd she even reach his arm. also like there isnt even any fabric boy u raw touchin her
His mouth opened and closed, but he couldn’t think what to say, he wasn’t mentally prepared for any of this! He’d gone from expecting to go to sleep, to being visited by Lisette, to being dragged through the halls, and now he was being sprung with some surprise meeting!? And both of them were clinging to him like never before!
this is in character alto not wanting to have a threesome so he can go nap
He couldn’t possibly keep up. Before he even realised it, he’d been pulled all the way over to Lisette’s bed and was sitting with a girl wrapped around either of his arms.
what a problem! what a terrible day for him! what are the odds of this happening!
“What… What’s going on?” “Something good.” Hilda answered in her own cryptic fashion, her voice almost breathless and her blazing red cheeks half hidden behind his cloak as she shyly slid in right next to him.
it is most certainly not good ma’am
“That’s right,” Lisette agreed, happily snuggling up against him as she squeezed herself around his other arm, “We’re gonna help you come to a decision!”
we’re gonna make u C*M...............to a decision ;)
Alto blinked, “Eh?”
petition for this to turn out like the friends episode where ross got kicked out of a threesome with his wife and another woman bc they were lesbians so he left and made a sandwich
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
conveniently the fic decides to break here anyway so thats all you get for now. I’ll finish the other parts later (im expecting like maybe five because of the gargantuan size of this travesty) and link them direct from here
Part 2 here! (coming soon)

[2018-09-19T00:23:51Z] watso595: Is everyone (or a majority) able to meet Thursday before class? I feel it could be a good idea to talk about our edits to the guide in person and thought that might be the best option for time based on last week.
[2018-09-19T00:25:08Z] watso595: Also, should we have a way of marking those that have/have not been edited since class today? Maybe your initials/time that you edited in parentheses at the end of each point?
[2018-09-19T00:25:21Z] watso595: I’m open to other ideas too, just thought that could be helpful

[2018-09-19T15:05:44Z] mahla008: So studio an hour before?
[2018-09-19T16:09:54Z] watso595: Yeah let’s plan on that for those that can make it
[2018-09-19T17:14:34Z] rumbe003: Yoooo so Matt wanted me and Colton to spearhead a movement of changing the manifesto to be more "question based" if that makes sense
Instead of giving statements that work as solutions, let's use questions in the same way that we use design, to push boundaries, create problems, and push ourselves to think further and be more provocative
[2018-09-19T17:15:34Z] mahla008: So like, what is love?
[2018-09-19T17:16:09Z] rumbe003: Yeah something like that, or "How will we feel love?"
[2018-09-19T17:16:17Z] mahla008: Oooo
[2018-09-19T17:16:21Z] rumbe003: Questions with a slightly more specific scope
[2018-09-19T17:16:22Z] mahla008: I like that
[2018-09-19T17:16:23Z] rumbe003: if that makes sense
[2018-09-19T17:16:26Z] mahla008: Ye
[2018-09-19T17:17:08Z] rumbe003: Matt was really about it, he liked the idea of posing questions now, and potentially answering them later in the semester with our work
[2018-09-19T17:19:11Z] bialo011: Honestly not crazy about that
[2018-09-19T17:19:31Z] mahla008: That sounds better than trying to have a set of definitives without actually experiencing wecolab as a whole
[2018-09-19T17:20:39Z] batzl015: Yeah, I mean it’s a different structure so that could be interesting, but it seems like with questions as the structure, it gets really simple and bony provocative
[2018-09-19T17:20:47Z] batzl015: Like it doesn’t seem like anything new
[2018-09-19T17:21:08Z] rumbe003: Yeah idk man haha I'm just communicating what Matt was excited about and wanted me to do
[2018-09-19T17:21:34Z] batzl015: Cause we can ask questions all day, but making statements that cause you to ask questions seems a lot more powerful
[2018-09-19T17:22:17Z] rumbe003: That's true, but also i feel like statements are already defining the answer to any question we may come across
[2018-09-19T17:22:34Z] rumbe003: I'm down with whatever
[2018-09-19T17:23:10Z] mahla008: We just need to destil and condense our manifesto, maybe doing what we did and just make a statement for each word we want to convey
[2018-09-19T17:23:43Z] rumbe003: What if we do both?? Come up with a statement about love, and follow it up with, "How will we feel love?" Essentially saying "How will we enact the statement we just defined?"
[2018-09-19T17:23:53Z] bialo011: I think we should talk about it tomorrow. Because this is our manifesto too, not just what matt thinks is best.
[2018-09-19T17:24:11Z] rumbe003: ^truuuuuu
[2018-09-19T17:24:18Z] mahla008: But do we want it done tomorrow, cause I think Matt does
[2018-09-19T17:24:39Z] mahla008: Like finish it before class when most of us meet
[2018-09-19T17:25:53Z] rumbe003: We have to find a way to meet Matt straight on with productive resistance ya know?
[2018-09-19T17:26:28Z] bialo011: For sure
[2018-09-19T17:26:40Z] watso595: I think should still edit them as statements like we were planning
[2018-09-19T17:27:01Z] watso595: I agree we can talk about the question stuff tomorrow
[2018-09-19T17:28:16Z] batzl015: I’m prob gonna edit quite a bit today, I’ll keep changes noted in the comments
[2018-09-19T19:01:30Z] batzl015: I just moved every statement of the same category next to each other. I’m going to see if I can condense to eliminate redundancy/condense
[2018-09-19T19:23:15Z] danks010: I'm really up for whatever. On one hand, I think using questions would allow individuals to put there own meaning behind their answers, especially as it pertains to answer the why question behind the point of the manifesto. Although I realize it is our manifesto so I think it needs to revolve around our goals and thus statements might help hold us accountable and solidify our ability to collaborate as one based on a uniform standard. For tomorrow, I don't think we should change what we have in terms of rewriting them in the form of questions. As long as we can condense and form our statements in the right terms, it should work and if we discuss the question idea tomorrow and want to push that concept forward we can.
[2018-09-19T19:23:54Z] danks010: Also, I can try to meet an hour before class. No promises though because I'm not sure how traffic will be. But I can always try!
[2018-09-19T19:24:17Z] batzl015: I’m editing rn if anyone wants to hop in the google doc with me :+1::skin-tone-2:
[2018-09-19T19:24:28Z] batzl015: Feel free to scrub anything I’ve done haha
[2018-09-19T19:24:35Z] batzl015: Just leave comments so we can talk about it
[2018-09-19T19:25:25Z] batzl015: Also it looks like there’s room for 16 statements on one page... We’re currently at 28
[2018-09-19T19:30:44Z] bialo011: I can hop on in a sec
[2018-09-19T20:14:44Z] danks010: I be on in a half hour Oliver! Just finishing up the model for Brad's class.
[2018-09-19T20:15:26Z] batzl015: Cool, Andrew and I have done a lot of editing, but please look through and share opinions. That goes for everyone!!!
[2018-09-19T20:16:25Z] danks010: I'm going to completely change it.....Nah ill proofread it and add anything that needs adding. I'm sure its coming along!
[2018-09-19T20:51:37Z] batzl015: We should probably arrange, delete, and get close to finalizing by the end of today. Tomorrow morning can be for last touches
[2018-09-19T20:53:11Z] danks010: For sure! I'm reading over everything right now to get familiar with some of the changes.
[2018-09-19T21:30:28Z] karle029: was the Destil on purpose
[2018-09-19T21:31:42Z] karle029: have we thought about inviting matt to this slack?
[2018-09-19T21:32:42Z] bialo011: I think he is already
[2018-09-19T21:32:51Z] karle029: also if anyone is interested in researching prison labor and prison censorship historically and today I got some really great leads from Linnea at the archives
[2018-09-19T21:33:06Z] karle029:
[2018-09-19T21:33:13Z] karle029:
[2018-09-19T21:33:42Z] mahla008: Is anyone in rapson?
[2018-09-19T21:34:01Z] mahla008: Me and parker are in studio talking about this if others wanted to join
[2018-09-20T00:45:24Z] olso6229: yes, everyone including Matt is in the Slack channel. His handle is
[2018-09-20T00:47:35Z] olso6229: Has anyone else looked at Boris' work/website/views on art+collaboration/bio on WAM site?

[2018-09-20T04:04:53Z] mahla008: Hey guys, don't like be mad at me or anything but i've been doing research on MINNCOR and idk if they are really that bad
[2018-09-20T04:49:35Z] mahla008: Like they still bad but like not as bad as I think we were lead to believe
[2018-09-20T12:15:13Z] olso6229: Oh yeah?
[2018-09-20T14:02:08Z] bialo011: how so?
[2018-09-20T14:12:46Z] mahla008: Are we meeting in studio?
[2018-09-20T17:38:27Z] batzl015: theres a mincorfurniture folder
[2018-09-20T17:38:33Z] batzl015: channel*
[2018-09-20T17:45:44Z] feria006: Tales of the traveling bag. To be continued
[2018-09-20T18:27:01Z] krieg087: So I was thinking a lot in class today about research, I re-watched 13th, and then watched a Portuguese film called "How Tasty is my Little Frenchman" that is inadvertently about imprisonment in 1500s colonial Brazil. Would anyone be interested in me creating a channel for research on the history of imprisonment and prison labor?
[2018-09-20T18:27:23Z] bialo011: do it
[2018-09-20T18:42:10Z] olso6229: Yes
[2018-09-20T18:44:06Z] olso6229: i wish my girlfriend was in the room for the first part of our conversation today, we would’ve learned so much about language
[2018-09-20T18:46:40Z] olson175: How so Lee?
[2018-09-20T18:58:12Z] olso6229: she did her undergrad in linguistics with several courses at graduate level during that time, her last 2 or 3 semesters of school were basically thesis
[2018-09-20T18:59:35Z] olson175: cool... would love to know who some of her favorite language thinkers are
[2018-09-20T19:00:00Z] olso6229: not chomsky, i can tell you that much
[2018-09-20T19:02:49Z] olson175: i love chomsky but, not because of his linguistic work
[2018-09-20T19:03:02Z] olson175: I wonder if she has thoughts on Barthes
[2018-09-20T19:07:07Z] olso6229: i will ask tonight. if anyone else has any questions about language, let me know anytime
[2018-09-20T19:08:05Z] krieg087: ^Same here Lee, my sister is currently getting her PHD in Linguistics and I can always ask her any questions as well!
[2018-09-20T19:08:35Z] olso6229: COOOOOOOOL
[2018-09-20T19:11:03Z] olson175: ask her about Barthes and Lakoff. I've watched a couple interesting lectures by Lakoff.
[2018-09-20T19:11:18Z] feria006: Bag makes it through lecture!

[2018-09-20T19:45:35Z] olso6229: or read ursula le guin's the ones who walk away from omelas
[2018-09-20T19:45:57Z] olso6229: looking at the range of minncor products reminds me of her short story
[2018-09-21T00:47:08Z] santo204: Yee the zines in the library are really cool. Did we figure out if we were using a google drive or a Lightroom to upload media?
[2018-09-21T00:49:24Z] santo204: Or did we want to create a channel on this strictly for videos/photos/ other media
[2018-09-21T01:01:56Z] watso595: I thought we were planning on using Lightroom. I feel like starting a new channel for this might be good so we can share links to Lightroom and keep them in one place?
[2018-09-21T01:02:08Z] watso595: I can start a channel for media
[2018-09-21T01:17:29Z] santo204:

[2018-09-21T18:23:46Z] schra470: Hey guys! So Evan and I spent some time at Wilson library, and upon asking for information on university spending (and what kind of money is going from UMN to Minncor) we were directed to the "Purchasing Services" webpage. Although there were no readily available materials with this information, we contacted the general services via email and asked very politely who we may be able to get in contact with to understand the university's opinion on this matter. Hopefully they get back to me soon with some more information, and maybe a contact to sit down with and ask questions! Ill Keep you all posted
[2018-09-21T18:25:03Z] olso6229: Cool !!

[2018-09-22T18:26:08Z] watso595: Haley mentioned that too... I haven’t been but I remember talking to some people who found the “dorm chairs” there before I knew they were minncor
[2018-09-22T18:26:45Z] mahla008: Cool well maybe that's a next weekend trip since they only open on saturdays
[2018-09-22T18:27:00Z] watso595: We can also get it for free since we would be using it for university purposes
[2018-09-22T18:27:34Z] mahla008: Ooo ye or unless anyone has time to go to the center with a car today?
[2018-09-22T18:47:14Z] watso595: I've started putting together some of the clips I took on Thursday into a short video. A lot of my videos need some editing in premiere so I think it could be easier if I use the file I've already started but if others are interested in putting that video together we can find a time to meet and work on it!
[2018-09-22T18:48:54Z] watso595: otherwise, if you have videos, could you throw them in the drive?
[2018-09-22T22:20:06Z] danks010: uploading them now Parker! Sorry its taking so long. It's a decent size file

[2018-09-24T20:01:42Z] danks010: I remembered that we touched on bell hooks a little bit last week and I found a really interesting book of her that related to Love and how people define, and acknowledge love and how love impacts relationships, both romantically and socially. I'm only a chapter in, but it is a really unique approach that I thought I would share with you. Here's the link for the online version of the book. It can be downloaded as a pdf from the site which is really nice.

[2018-09-26T01:13:37Z] olso6229: do you need any more photos from today’s session? I took a few, but i saw you had taken some too. Let me know

[2018-09-26T13:29:25Z] olso6229: asked my partner, Calli, what she thought about Barthes and Lakoff. She said "they're outside my specialization so i don't know enough about their theories to really make a statement about them. but i do prefer lakoffs theory of generative semantics to chomskys generative syntax. basically, we have to take semantics and meaning into account in sentence construction. chomsky syntax treats the mind and language as highly logical and mathematical. however, humans don't operate on that alone. communication relies on meaning, memory, and intention, which must be accounted for when discussing linguistics."
[2018-09-26T15:44:13Z] olso6229: and then i asked her about something she says about language often, that language is referential. "well when i say its referential, i'm talking about the fact that we can talk about the world around us. things and experiences. i believe its universal. remember the isolated mind conversation? a mind outside of any kind of environment would still have the capacity to refer to itself, its experience, and its functioning."
[2018-09-26T15:45:32Z] fasbe023: has joined the channel
[2018-09-26T15:45:32Z] olso6229: i'm curious to hear how this overlaps/aligns/conflicts? with color science/perception?
[2018-09-26T16:54:37Z] boris: Color is an extremely interesting case study of language. I believe I mentioned the book "Through the Language Glass"- it's about that. It's very related to Lakoff and Johnson's metaphor theory, and how metaphors are not just language constructs but creators of realities. Remind me next time in class, I'll tell more

carsten höller: soma

[2018-09-27T20:08:28Z] olso6229: revisiting my notes from allan kaprow's 1958 essay "the legacy of jackson pollock", this bit seemed relevant to our discussion about objects today
[2018-09-27T20:08:47Z] olso6229: maybe this can help guide us?
[2018-09-27T20:08:57Z] olso6229: At any rate, for now, we may consider that, except for rare instances, Western art tends to need many more indirections in achieving itself, placing more or less equal emphasis upon “things” and the relations between them. The crudeness of Jackson Pollock is not, therefore, uncouth or designed as such; it is manifestly frank and uncultivated, unsullied by training, trade secrets, finesse—a directness which the European artists he liked hoped for and partially succeeded in, but which he never had to strive after because he had it by nature. This by itself would be enough to teach us something.
It does. Pollock, as I see him, left us at the point where we must become preoccupied with and even dazzled by the space and objects of our everyday life, either our bodies, clothes, rooms, or, if need be, the vastness of Forty-Second Street. Not satisfied with the suggestion through paint of our other senses, we shall utilize the specific substances of sigh, sound, movements, people, odors, touch. Objects of every sort are materials for the new art: paint, chairs, food, electric and neon lights, smoke, water, old socks, a dog, movies, a thousand other things which will be discovered by the present generation of artists. Not only will these bold creators show us, as if for the first time, the world we have always had about us, but ignored, but they will disclose entirely unheard of happenings and events, found in garbage cans, police files, hotel lobbies, seen in store windows and on the streets, and sensed in dreams and horrible accidents. An odor of crushed strawberries, a letter from a friend or a billboard selling Draino; three taps on the front door, a scratch, a sigh or a voice lecturing endlessly, a blinding staccato flash, a bowler hat—all will become materials for this new concrete art.

[2018-09-28T04:04:47Z] batzl015: Just interviewed my mom (Janet Batzli) who teaches biology and ecology at the University of Wisconsin about Emanuele Coccia and the idea of oxygen as a byproduct. In short, we ended up talking about the larger systems involving plants and how nearly every part of the human body is directly related to plant processes. My mom’s dissertation research and expertise is in the process of nitrogen fixation which, similarly to Coccia’s book, involves plant byproducts and a symbiosis of microbes and plants existing while creating an environment for life to continue and flourish. Very cool in reference to connectedness.

[2018-10-02T02:58:57Z] rumbe003: Reposting so everyone sees it
[2018-10-02T05:09:07Z] danks010: I realize everyone has been researching different topics and different types of media with regards to finding information pertaining to prisons, prison labor, etc. With that being said, I decided to take a step out of the text aspect to see how forms can influence multiply people. Rather than continuing to flood the slack with readings and articles I have researched, I decided to look at a form of media that influences almost everyone. Thus, I looked into researching music about prison and how artists can evoke meaning and spread ideas about prison and prison labor. I created a document that starts to pile a list of songs and lyrics about prison songs, including links to the songs for those who have not heard some of them. For me, I think it was really beneficial to step back out of the book and see how prisons and prison labor is portrayed in other fields. Here is the link to the document, however if it does not work, I can share the google docs with everyone.

[2018-10-03T18:51:07Z] olso6229: Anyone else interested in going to this event? It's in Folwell Hall on Monday, November 5th at 4pm
[2018-10-03T18:54:26Z] olso6229: The title of the event itself seems compelling enough in relation to what we're doing. There's no event abstract up yet but I'll keep my eye on this one
[2018-10-03T19:50:39Z] olso6229: what did midway contemporary look like when you went? The gallery space only has paintings on one wall right now

[2018-10-03T22:40:03Z] danks010: Ya that was mine Lee?
[2018-10-03T22:40:44Z] danks010: its suppose to be a collaborative playlist whereas anyone can add music that is prison related, maybe evokes ideas about prisons, etc.
[2018-10-03T22:41:51Z] olso6229: Is there a spotify set up? Or is it only a google doc right now?
[2018-10-03T22:43:21Z] danks010: Right now its just a google doc to document the songs, artists, and then I threw in some lyrics because I think it's important to understand the words and messages they are trying to evoke and or persuade others

Pennsylvania Prisons Hired A Private Company To Intercept And Store Prisoners’ Mail
https://theappeal.org/pennsylvania-prisons-hired-a-private-company-to-intercept-and-store-prisoners-mail/
[2018-10-04T14:14:53Z] olso6229: What the f******k
[2018-10-04T14:14:56Z] olso6229: Hold on
[2018-10-04T14:22:49Z] olso6229: All mail to prisons in Pennsylvania gets routed through a private company in Florida
[2018-10-04T14:23:23Z] olso6229: The mail is scanned into a database, a photocopy is made and sent to the prison, and the original mail is destroyed
[2018-10-04T14:23:40Z] olso6229: "The DOC has also banned prisoners from receiving books from vendors—including book donation organizations like Books Through Bars. Instead, prisoners will have the option of paying for ebooks via tablets that cost over $147 each."
[2018-10-04T14:23:46Z] olso6229: >tablets that cost over $147 each
[2018-10-04T14:23:48Z] olso6229: HA
[2018-10-04T14:26:33Z] olso6229: The reason for this happening sounds like it was orchestrated by the Pennsylvania DOC
[2018-10-04T14:28:58Z] olso6229: “An incarcerated person may not want a private company to know about them and their family’s medical problems. They may not want a private company to know about grievances that they have."
[2018-10-04T14:29:16Z] olso6229: From Zeke Caliguiri we already know healthcare + medical access in prisons is a nightmare
[2018-10-04T14:40:55Z] olso6229: Oh man,
“This new policy is already having a chilling effect on how lawyers are communicating with their clients. Because legal mail is being opened and copied, attorney-client privilege is basically being ignored”
[2018-10-04T16:32:56Z] olso6229: Phillip Zimbardo
[2018-10-04T17:26:49Z] bialo011: ^his prison experiment was actually deeply flawed and widely regarded as being heavily biased. He basically set it up in a way where the guards where influenced to be more aggressive
[2018-10-04T17:42:46Z] olso6229: totally
[2018-10-04T17:43:47Z] olso6229: they definitely highlight that bias in him in the stanford prison experiment movie
[2018-10-04T17:45:27Z] olso6229: i think that incident could be valuable for us to look at, because we (maybe) are going to impact the space in a way where we want to encourage or suggest certain reactions (emotions, watcher/watched psychology shift, etc)
[2018-10-04T18:00:21Z] olso6229: WAIT, WOW
[2018-10-04T18:01:00Z] olso6229: A sign to push our video ideas ahead
[2018-10-04T18:01:34Z] olso6229: I had left off just before this paragraph in the Pennsylvania DOC article
[2018-10-04T18:01:36Z] olso6229: “Staff no longer are required to inspect each page for the presence of contraband, significantly reducing the time that staff handle or view privileged documents and allowing the inmate to receive the mail sooner. Finally, under the revised procedure, the entire transaction is recorded by video.”
[2018-10-04T18:02:08Z] olso6229: meta-recording
[2018-10-04T18:02:16Z] olso6229: i wonder if they have guards watching at the same time
[2018-10-04T18:02:17Z] danks010: My other idea came to me! I was thinking about the idea of freedom. We talked a lot about how prisoners are affected, what they lose, and I was thinking a lot about the idea of privacy or lack of privacy in prison. I think we often forget that privacy is a freedom and so I was curious of relating losing this privacy to the idea about observation. I'm not sure where I am headed with this idea, but just something I was thinking about......
[2018-10-04T18:13:34Z] danks010: Hey Matt, what was that video called with the prisoners chopping wood? It's been a while since I have seen it...I wanted to refresh my memory!
[2018-10-04T18:18:54Z] olso6229: take a look in today, are we set on the quotes? i think we need a better balance between men and women
[2018-10-04T18:19:50Z] olso6229: there are three quotes from that seems odd to me
[2018-10-04T18:19:58Z] renst011: The newsletter is already sent in for print but I added all of the quotes that were up before class today!
[2018-10-04T18:22:05Z] olso6229: ahhhh got it
[2018-10-04T18:22:57Z] olso6229: but thank you for crafting a wild zine with us!!:rolled_up_newspaper:
[2018-10-04T18:28:44Z] batzl015: Yeah, I understand that they pertain to the class, but I think we already have Matt quotes in the writing he did for the first newsletter
[2018-10-04T18:29:03Z] batzl015: I think for the sake of diversity, we can leave those ones out
[2018-10-04T18:40:52Z] olso6229: Last section of the Pennsylvania DOC article:
[2018-10-04T18:43:15Z] olso6229: "The policy also bans educational programs and books donation programs. / Books Through Bars, a donation service that has operated in Pennsylvania for over 30 years, is protesting this change as censorship. Through the program, prisoners can request two or three free books every three months. / A “million books are published a year. The DOC is saying they’ll offer [about] 8,000 titles on e-readers,” [Keir Neuringer, a longtime volunteer with Books Through Bars, said.] “When you consider that those of us on the outside have access to millions and millions of titles. This policy cuts you out of such an enormous access to books.” Neuringer also stated that e-book tablets make it possible for the DOC to start monitoring what people were reading."
[2018-10-04T18:44:27Z] olso6229: I'm not going to read a million, much less 8,000, books in my lifetime
[2018-10-04T18:45:04Z] olso6229: My frame of mind on book access was changed already by us talking, and even more after reading this
[2018-10-04T18:45:51Z] olso6229: Yeah, all of us "on the outside" all have access to every coffee shop in the twin cities, but who cares?? It's a totally empty statement to me

[2018-10-04T19:08:54Z] danks010: YES! Great Idea...definitely would think it would change the space with some noise, especially with the vaulted ceilings bouncing the noise.

[2018-10-05T15:11:04Z] schra470: Just remembered something I forgot to recommend yesterday during our short discussion on music! For all those who are curious about music, check out the “music” episode on a show called “explained” on Netflix. Super fascinating info on how humans understand and experience music unlike any other creature on earth. I think there is something to be said about how there’s no true way to explain how the human brain puts all the elements of music together and makes sense of it, and for that to cause an emotional reaction....just something to be curious about  Also, I’d recommend everyone just watch that show in general, every episode is super interesting and just makes you a little more knowledgeable about topics you may have never even thought about! And it comes out on a weekly basis, so you don’t run out of episodes to watch:slightly_smiling_face::v::skin-tone-2:
[2018-10-05T18:53:56Z] olso6229: cool ill check it out, whats the nutshell of how humans experience music differently??
[2018-10-05T18:55:09Z] olso6229: Is monday or sunday a better day to meet? Open invitation to everyone
[2018-10-05T18:57:03Z] schra470: Basically from what I remember, there are all these different aspects of music (pitch, rhythm, harmony, etc) that are exclusively detected by different species, but we actually use all of these together to hear music
[2018-10-05T18:57:31Z] schra470: Also, a fun fact was that we are one of the only creatures that can easily move to a beat, almost unconsciously

[2018-10-06T00:27:28Z] krieg087: Hey everyone!! I think I finally have my slack up and running again?? I'm realizing my comments from last weekend never posted when I thought they were (Sam I'm pretty positive the same thing was happening to me, as what happened to your slack a couple weeks ago). So for my assignment I'm going to need some volunteers, the more there are, the more powerful the project.
Looking at the idea of imprisonment, I want to do portraits of our studio group and give people the chance to just bear raw emotion and discuss heavy topics in a public way. The theme of each portrait will be the question asked personally "What am I imprisoned by?" My portrait will be about my disability and feeling imprisoned by my own body.
If you want to be a part of this feel free to like this message, contact me via Facebook message, email me at , shoot me a text, send a telegraph, or a tiny rolled up scroll delivered by a fox, or a note on a carrier pigeon.

The end of American prison visits: jails end face-to-face contact – and families suffer
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/dec/09/skype-for-jailed-video-calls-prisons-replace-in-person-visits
[2018-10-07T19:58:08Z] schra470: This is what Matt was talking about on Thursday when he briefly brought up switching from in-person visits to video chats in prison. Not only is stripping away an inmates ability to have face to face contact unethical in my opinion, the fact that a person has to pay $13 for a 20 minute, glitching conversation is absurd. I personally believe nobody should ever profit off of crime and incarceration, but here is YET ANOTHER way in which someone is filling their pockets at the expense of others. It is sad. Also, I know this is nothing like being separated by incarceration, but being somebody who uses video chat almost daily to connect with my partner who lives in a different city, I can easily say there is so much lacking in a conversation that happens over a screen, vs in person contact. This is just sad.
[2018-10-07T22:54:36Z] rumbe003: Crazy... the prison phone industry is valued at 1.2 billion dollars a year! That's insane!
[2018-10-07T22:54:54Z] rumbe003: Monopolizing human rights
[2018-10-07T22:58:34Z] rumbe003: Are there any question that people might have about prisons and the architecture of prisons and how design might be used as a strategy in prisons? Or anything along those lines? I'm going into BWBR tomorrow for an informational interview and I know that one of the architects that I'm meeting with has a large body of work in prison design, so I plan on picking his brain a little bit
[2018-10-08T12:31:19Z] batzl015: Meet later today? Also does anyone know how to play piano/have access to a piano?
[2018-10-08T12:53:37Z] olso6229: you could open up a DAW like garageband or logic on your laptop and use a keyboard piano :musical_keyboard:
[2018-10-08T13:40:25Z] olso6229: aside from the 1st floor piano in coffman, there are pianos by the whole and upstairs around the president’s room
[2018-10-08T13:41:01Z] olso6229: There might be one in the lind hall library still
[2018-10-08T13:42:58Z] watso595: It looks like around 4 today might be a good time to meet?
[2018-10-08T13:44:54Z] olso6229: I could jam with a four

[2018-10-08T14:56:55Z] olso6229: Just had a chat at work with our digital comms director, she pitched the idea of having me do a U of M alumni association instagram takeover for like a week. Im thinking it could be a good way to promote wecolab/weisman/danny’s project/BDA
Thoughts?
[2018-10-08T15:10:38Z] schra470: Yes!!
[2018-10-08T15:11:10Z] schra470: Also I can meet at 4 too  BDA studio?
[2018-10-08T15:13:30Z] watso595: Yeah let’s meet in studio, there’ll be some classes going on but I think it could be good to discuss wecolab stuff around other BDA students since they aren’t able to see what we do as much
[2018-10-08T19:36:23Z] schra470: turned the google docs prison playlist into a spotify playlist for easier listening! Added a few of my own songs and made it collaborative, so if you have spotify, add away!

Beyond Bars: A Public Reading - October 22, 2016, 7:00pm
https://www.mnprisonwriting.org/mpww-public-reading.html
[2018-10-10T00:28:09Z] olso6229: As far as book donations, we’re getting copies of the gift and how can i help? I mean, really, imagine the WARDEN holding copies of those books in their hands and deciding if they get in. That’s wild to me :face_with_cowboy_hat:
[2018-10-10T00:32:16Z] olso6229: and I also have some info to unpack and communicate to y’all
[2018-10-10T00:33:03Z] olso6229:
[2018-10-10T00:33:52Z] olso6229: We just found this earlier tonight
[2018-10-10T00:36:01Z] olso6229: In tune with ’s conversation with BWBR. Also, Sam, did the people you talk to at BWBR have a weird attitude about being a firm that has designed prisons? Were they embarrassed, was there a stigma attached to it, were they neutral or happy about it? Curious what their feeling towards it are
[2018-10-10T00:40:52Z] danks010: Super interested in exploring some of the ideas regarding a study by Laura Kurgan that mentioned above. and I are applying some of the things we learned in WeCoLab to a research project in another class.
[2018-10-10T00:41:44Z] danks010: You might need to give me a recap of the Beyond Bars Lecture if you go. I have class on Monday nights so I can't make it. Really wish I could go though.
[2018-10-10T02:56:57Z] olso6229: Anyone have time for a library visit tomorrow 2pm?
[2018-10-10T03:42:02Z] olso6229: We have room for 1 more to come with
[2018-10-10T03:42:16Z] olso6229: In coltens car anyway
[2018-10-10T03:42:42Z] olso6229: We’re going to MCAD / MIA at 2pm
[2018-10-10T03:43:57Z] olso6229: If you have time, you should meet up and check it out with us all! :bat:
[2018-10-10T17:25:40Z] olson175: could you guys bring some wecolabs and try to place them? especially using your new awareness of etiquette :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-10T17:25:55Z] olson175: newsletters that is
[2018-10-10T17:27:02Z] mahla008: where can we get the newsletters? Is there more in studio?
[2018-10-10T17:27:48Z] watso595: In the arch office, in a box
[2018-10-10T17:27:59Z] watso595: Mahva can tell you if you can’t find the box
[2018-10-10T17:30:34Z] schra470: can I come to the library today!?
[2018-10-10T17:32:13Z] mahla008: Cool cool pwatts
[2018-10-10T17:51:43Z] schra470: Shelves have been moved from our original cluster...interesting observation, wonder how this will affect the view from the window
[2018-10-10T17:55:43Z] mahla008:
[2018-10-10T17:55:46Z] mahla008: I bet it was this guy who moved them
[2018-10-10T18:25:23Z] olso6229: Let’s come up with some locations to group up outside of the Weisman for tomorrow:
[2018-10-10T18:25:44Z] olso6229: The graduate hotel lobby
[2018-10-10T18:26:24Z] olso6229: Nanotech building 2nd or 3rd floor
[2018-10-10T18:26:29Z] mahla008: ?
[2018-10-10T18:27:11Z] olso6229: Didn’t we say that we would think of places to meet with Danny outside of WAM tomorrow?
[2018-10-10T18:27:17Z] olso6229: Or did that get scrapped?
[2018-10-10T18:27:57Z] schra470: Graduate hotel lobby  most comfortable seating
[2018-10-10T18:28:31Z] batzl015: I think it would be cool to meet outside of WAM or Rapson
[2018-10-10T18:28:49Z] batzl015: Maybe a room in Bruninks? I’m not sure
[2018-10-10T18:29:26Z] olso6229: Bruininks feels sterile IMO, the lobby areas facing the river is nice
[2018-10-10T18:29:31Z] mahla008: I thought we were just meeting in a different room of the weismann
[2018-10-10T18:29:39Z] mahla008: Cause we couldn't decide
[2018-10-10T18:30:00Z] olso6229: I thought that was for the first half before we meet Danny
[2018-10-10T18:31:53Z] mahla008:
[2018-10-10T18:33:08Z] olso6229: the merge records bit in your email is really throwin me off
[2018-10-10T18:33:25Z] olso6229: Your friends know how to pick em
[2018-10-10T18:35:00Z] olso6229: about the book rearrangement, see ’s photo/message above. Seems like someone outside of our class did it? As far as i know, we left then placed neatly on the carts, which were clustered by the window
[2018-10-10T18:37:51Z] olso6229: We will distribute some magazines to MCAD + MIA today. Light Grey Art Lab is across the street from MCAD, maybe we can drop some off there.
[2018-10-10T19:09:21Z] olso6229: you still wanna come with?
[2018-10-10T19:10:22Z] schra470: Yes! I’ve been in contact with Colten, we good
[2018-10-10T19:10:29Z] olso6229: Sweet
[2018-10-10T19:10:36Z] olso6229: Jakob and i will come down to HGA
[2018-10-10T23:04:44Z] olso6229: we’ve got some cool news to pass on from our library visit today !!
[2018-10-10T23:05:41Z] olso6229: We’ll explain tomorrow :scorpion::basketball:
[2018-10-11T01:17:45Z] feria006: Matt asked me to share this manifesto by Jason Rens an individual not so characterized by his designs as much as the individual aspects of craft and emotion that they evoke. I looked into Rens further and discovered a couple interview in which he got into many of the topics/issues we are facing now. First, he talks about materials as letters in the alphabet, how when in the right combination and order they can make words, sentences and eventually language. I think this could be something to consider as we move forward in to making something.
[2018-10-11T01:21:26Z] feria006: Second, his thoughts on collaboration. Most of his projects involving collaborating across many different professions, mediums and ideologies. I think going forward we should use his manifesto in order to keep our ideas evolving and thus making the product much more evoking.
[2018-10-11T02:03:29Z] olson175: He's a friend so, if we wanna Skype with him or something, it'd be easy. (He might even say he learned some of this stuff from me?!) :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-11T07:54:53Z] olso6229: Highlights from 's interview with architects @ BWBR about prison design. Posting for Sam because his Slack has toys in the attic
[2018-10-11T07:54:56Z] olso6229: -In their eyes, prison design has become much LESS oppressive over the last 10-15 years.. more space is being provided for inmates in cells and in common areas, more focus is being put towards ventilation of the prison, circulation within the prison to best suite the prisoners, etc. I found that to be interesting because I see it as a sign of positive change and motion(hopefully).
-These designers/architects talked me through some design strategies that they use. In each prison, they strive for two things: Calmness and Security. How do these things mix and match? Security is such a tension-inducing word, calmness is the opposite. They aim to provide abundant amounst of daylight into qualifying areas of the prisons, as well as the use of acoustic materials on the walls and in corners of larger areas. Since there are so many hard surfaces in prisons, sounds bounces everywhere, especially when tensions are high and there is lots of yelling. I found this to be especially interesting, especially in light of our recent discussions regarding sound, and sound as a free and endless resource.
-Perhaps most importantly, they encouraged me to think of prison as a city. This I found to be incredibly thought provoking. Society always constructs this image of "real life" and the city life as one thing, and then prisons as an entirely different world/concept. In reality, prisons have stores, economies, transportations systems, postal services, recreational opportunities, educational facilities, etc. Many components to the cities that free citizens live in and understand! I think we could be more productive moving forward if we also thought of prisons as miniature cities, instead of thinking of them as other-worldly. We may be able to empathize more efficiently with prisoners and find more humanity in our humility.
[2018-10-11T07:57:29Z] olso6229: ++ in the morning let's all talk about meeting outside of WAM for the back half of class
[2018-10-11T18:13:28Z] feria006: Just a spark from the meeting with Danny today, he talked a lot of statistics of the people in jail (all family member, half parents, third with mental illness) an idea for redacting our readings could be using those percentages for the percent of the reading, skipping pages or words to raise awareness to the types of people that are in this system
[2018-10-11T18:19:10Z] olso6229: Damn, good observation , i totally missed that. I did pick up on Danny being into incorporating the number of balloons that a prisoner would pack for single shipping into something we make. Ideas?
[2018-10-11T18:23:06Z] olso6229: Overview from today with Danny:
- balloons :balloon: + handing out to people, incorporated with the target gallery space, something that gets handed out at the event? during the sleep conversation event, people were given pillows, pillow cases, and sewing kits to make at home, as an activity to help them fall asleep. Create a giant pikachu balloon glob at the WAM entry
[2018-10-11T18:24:00Z] olso6229: - evoke prison visitation environment. Rows/benches of seats where people face each other
[2018-10-11T18:24:40Z] olso6229: ^^ tie boris’ interview with robert irwin + habitability symposium into the way we think about this
[2018-10-11T18:25:46Z] olso6229: (Cool note, boris is generating a habitability symposium in 2020 here. Also, jennifer newsom + dream the combine will be the artists in residence at WAM next academic year)
[2018-10-11T18:27:20Z] olso6229: you should talk to jennifer about Spooky Architecture. She did a guest lecture in one of my classes on Halloween last year dressed as a witch.
[2018-10-11T18:28:47Z] olso6229: - directional lines on the floor. Tape may ruin the floor, try paint instead. Will people have a weird psychological obstacle of crossing a painted line on the floor?
[2018-10-11T18:30:59Z] olso6229: How that evokes control, restriction, authority, order, rules, manufacturing inaccessibility, obscuring. We don’t know what we don’t know
[2018-10-11T18:37:14Z] olso6229: - play handball as a performance? Activity outside of WAM to stop people on the street. Something we do during the workshop artist talk? Something filmed or photographed and gets projected into the space?
[2018-10-11T18:38:07Z] olso6229: - will WAM allow concrete or cinderblocks?
[2018-10-11T18:40:43Z] olso6229: - how can we use sound? Start recording books on tape. Redact audio - distort audio, censor with SFX, dont record certain words/topics/passages/etc. Is the redaction explicit or hidden? A false transparency? People wouldn’t know what they don’t know.
[2018-10-11T18:45:59Z] olso6229: - about materials, danny mentioned blue-gray enamel paint
[2018-10-11T18:47:12Z] olso6229: - can we see if the U of M has a banned books list?
[2018-10-11T18:47:38Z] olso6229: How does that list overlap, align, conflict, surprise us when compared to DOC lists?
[2018-10-11T18:49:16Z] olso6229: A reminder: MN Prison Writing Workshop’s Beyond Bars event is at Hamline next Saturday, October 20 at 7 PM – 9 PM
[2018-10-11T18:50:18Z] olso6229: The event is free and Jennifer from the program has warmly and graciously invited us all to attend
[2018-10-11T18:51:47Z] danks010: That Spooky Architecture lecture your talking about is really interesting, besides the point that it doesn't relate to this project
[2018-10-11T18:52:13Z] olso6229: In what ways does it not?
[2018-10-11T18:53:18Z] danks010: I suppose I would have to reflect more on it. That's a good question for me to explore.
[2018-10-11T19:01:32Z] danks010:
[2018-10-11T19:01:51Z] danks010:
[2018-10-11T19:04:00Z] danks010: Here was a few collages I had been working on to build ways to express ideas by storytelling. I realize after todays meeting that these may be irrelevant but the goal behind them was try to evoke ideas of viewing the space. However, I am keeping this on the back burner to allow other ideas to be generated.
[2018-10-11T19:11:40Z] olso6229: Thank you for sharing !!
[2018-10-11T19:12:22Z] olso6229: Markus Miessen will be in Rapson on November 26th.
He's the Principle Architect of Studio Miessen in Germany, which is self-described as a "decentrally-organized group of architects, designers, and researchers interested in the deployment of Critical Spatial Practice as a methodology. They collaboratively work and consult on projects that include spatial design, strategic frameworks, research, curatorial and discursive activities."
They also say they "work closely with artists, who we assist to realize small-to-large-scale spatial ideas and support them in realizing exhibitions and large-scale institutional shows. Our work also includes self-initiated activities and projects that span from physical construction to writing and criticism. Our practice is based on dialogue."
Sounds familiar. :slightly_smiling_face:
If Markus is here on the day before or after that Monday, we should invite him to WAM, talk with him, other ideas?
[2018-10-11T19:13:54Z] danks010: Most definitely agree.
[2018-10-11T19:13:57Z] olso6229: - here are some photos of Danny's work that I was referencing today:
[2018-10-11T19:16:52Z] olso6229:
[2018-10-11T19:48:11Z] olso6229: I've scheduled my office Instagram takeover for the week of Danny's workshop/conversation in November
[2018-10-11T19:49:46Z] olso6229: Following from our discussion on how to escape architectural material traps, here's a recent solo exhibition from MCAD faculty member Kate Casanova. This was at Public Functionary this August

[2018-10-12T03:32:44Z] olso6229: I've restructured the google notes document
[2018-10-12T03:32:47Z] olso6229: and added notes from today
[2018-10-12T03:34:34Z] olso6229: I've changed the chronology to descending dates, that way most recent meetings have higher visibility
[2018-10-12T03:36:59Z] olso6229: So a few of us visited MCAD/MIA this week. After talking to the librarians there, we found out MIA hosted an event during BANNED BOOKS WEEK at the end of September titled "Don't Read This! Don't See This! : Censorship and the Creative Truth of Words and Art"
[2018-10-12T03:41:30Z] olso6229: We passed over a few copies of the WeCoLab zine to the librarians to give to program/department heads and directors. We also exchanged contact info, and will stay in touch. I asked Danny if he's interested in connecting with MIA and will follow up on that with him
[2018-10-12T03:42:34Z] olso6229: Sam's BWBR interview summary is also on the doc
[2018-10-12T03:44:09Z] olso6229: Does anyone want to take a trip to Moon Palace Books together? If you want to experience the NY book art fair approach firsthand, that place is a great resource
[2018-10-12T05:21:54Z] olso6229: Anyone have time for a library visit next Monday or Wednesday afternoon?

The Voice Behind Many Bestselling Books On Tape Is Actually That of An Infamous Serial Killer
https://www.shared.com/serial-killer-audio-books/
[2018-10-12T07:32:29Z] olso6229: Kemper murdered several people, including his paternal grandparents and mother
[2018-10-12T07:32:43Z] olso6229: He was also a necrophiliac
[2018-10-12T07:33:05Z] olso6229: Bits from the article:
[2018-10-12T07:33:07Z] olso6229: "From 1977 to 1987, Kemper had spent over 5,000 hours in the recording booth and had more than four million feet of tape and several hundred books to his credit"
[2018-10-12T07:33:11Z] olso6229: “I can’t begin to tell you what this has meant to me, to be able to do something constructive for someone else, to be appreciated by so many people, the good feeling it gives me after what I have done,” Kemper said.
[2018-10-12T07:35:07Z] olso6229: He is currently serving 8 concurrent life sentences in California

Ed Kemper Interview - 1991 (extended)
https://youtu.be/j8IfslxOmF0
[2018-10-12T07:44:27Z] olso6229: This is wild, imagine this: this video is an interview of Ed Kemper by French writer Stéphane Bourgoin.
In 1976, Bourgoin discovered his girlfriend Eileen, "killed, raped and cut into pieces" in their apartment in Los Angeles, California.
Since 1979, Bourgoin has interviewed 77 different serial killers.
[2018-10-12T14:08:55Z] mahla008: reposting cause we only got half the studio rn
[2018-10-12T14:11:13Z] olso6229: it takes like 10 seconds to fill out on your phone :)
[2018-10-12T16:25:31Z] mahla008: Are the only people still needing to do the when to meet, but so far only half of us could meet tonight. Alot of us could do saturday morning, half on sunday, and most of us monday evening
[2018-10-12T17:39:43Z] rumbe003: I am out of town at a family wedding all weekend so my only day I can meet is Monday evening
[2018-10-12T17:39:52Z] rumbe003: as I just put into the thing
[2018-10-12T18:05:10Z] olso6229: Sweet thanks for the heads up sam!

[2018-10-12T19:26:41Z] olso6229: Thank you Pangolin
[2018-10-12T19:36:38Z] santo204: Sorry for the delay, I filled out the when 2 meet now
[2018-10-12T20:00:44Z] mahla008: Would we want to meet Saturday morning and then maybe Sunday night? And if we have to Monday night?
[2018-10-12T20:02:23Z] batzl015: I dig that
[2018-10-12T20:02:54Z] mahla008: And then maybe after the proposal we could maybe break into teams for certain projects for the 14th so it's easier for people to meet in those groups?
[2018-10-12T20:07:13Z] watso595: I could meet tomorrow morning! I like that plan
[2018-10-12T20:07:26Z] olso6229: Agree im into it
[2018-10-12T20:36:18Z] schra470: Spotted in the bathroom at St. Croix state park :eyes:

[2018-10-13T15:44:27Z] watso595: Hey , we're working on drafting a project proposal and want to know if we're thinking about two separate projects (one for nov. 14th and the other for dec 11th), or if we want to have all of our ideas done by the artist talk on nov. 14th?
[2018-10-13T15:45:29Z] mahla008: I vote Nov 14th all ideas
[2018-10-13T15:46:00Z] watso595: I wonder about what we do after nov. 14th if we have all the projects done by then
[2018-10-13T15:46:04Z] olso6229: I vote duo/concurrent projects
[2018-10-13T15:48:40Z] fasbe023: Duo/concurrent
[2018-10-13T16:10:25Z] : has a poll for you!

Hey @everyone, we're working on drafting a project proposal and want to know if we're thinking about two separate projects (one for nov. 14th and the other for dec 11th), or if we want to have all of our ideas done by the artist talk on nov. 14th?
[2018-10-13T16:22:10Z] batzl015: I’ll be in around noon to work with y’all
[2018-10-13T16:48:32Z] schra470: Unfortunately I’m out of town today so I won’t be able to come help, but I will be available on Sunday night and Monday to help continue the project
[2018-10-13T16:52:11Z] mahla008: We will have a second meeting Sunday night, time to be decided later, we got a good start today and Parker and a few others will be forming a draft of the proposal to be edited and finalized tomorrow for matt
[2018-10-13T17:10:29Z] batzl015: Where are y’all?
[2018-10-13T17:10:37Z] batzl015: Did you finish up already?
[2018-10-13T17:11:21Z] olso6229: I left, but we set up a google doc draft for the project proposal :ok_hand::ok_hand:
[2018-10-13T17:11:36Z] batzl015: Ok, sounds good
[2018-10-13T17:11:40Z] batzl015: Sorry I couldn’t make it
[2018-10-13T17:12:21Z] olso6229: No problem, see you tomorrow?
[2018-10-13T17:16:09Z] batzl015: Yep!
[2018-10-13T18:43:54Z] olson175: great to see motion/enthusiasm! Nice job you guys. Just a reminder - maybe you're already doing this but - I encourage you to move all things forward at the same time... so discussions about dates are important but until we know more about what we're going to do, it's hard to make those decisions meaningful? I always try to keep as many variables in the air and moving with me as long as I can. The variables I can see now are: built objects (design, iterations, and prototyping may be necessary), policies the Weisman and Boris have that might affect those objects/designs, budgets and the necessity to get Gayla and Boris's approval, shop time and project planning, material considerations, de-installation and disposal/recycling at the end of the project, new ideas that will emerge as we move... so make sure you visit these things if you haven't! What am I forgetting? And let me know "how can I help" :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-13T18:44:16Z] rumbe003: Sorry I couldn't make it either, thank for doing that you guys! Exciting stuff!
[2018-10-13T22:50:26Z] watso595: Hey Matt, do you have any examples of project proposals or things like that your firm has made? might be useful as reference while we start to think about all these variables and work on the first draft of ours
[2018-10-14T00:40:37Z] olson175: as part of our attitude about 'open practice' we don't participate in competitions or RFPs so formal, written proposals have been rare in my work. We pretty much only work with people who approach us and never really seek work. But I'd be happy to talk you guys through a few projects on Tuesday to explain how they've come to life. Let me know.

[2018-10-14T14:42:25Z] olso6229: We should donate these books at Beyond Bars!
[2018-10-14T14:54:11Z] olso6229: Also, a few of us are going to the center for book arts + library in downtown minneapolis on monday afternoon. Open invitation to join us! :books::slightly_smiling_face:

[2018-10-16T22:50:23Z] batzl015: I will share a budget and material spreadsheet that I made earlier today with everyone tonight. It’s a list of possible materials, equipment, and costs that we can pull from when choosing our materials. Please take some time to take a look. I think we should have it filled out by tomorrow night at the latest. Keep the stoke high! :+1::skin-tone-2:
[2018-10-17T12:12:07Z] olso6229: the spreadsheet looks great, thanks for getting that started

[2018-10-18T03:54:06Z] batzl015: Great work filling out the materials spreadsheet y’all!
[2018-10-18T03:54:51Z] batzl015: We still need to fill the video and audio section, so if anyone has done research on that, please put it in the spreadsheet so we can discuss feasibility tomorrow!

[2018-10-18T18:09:39Z] batzl015: I think I need more time to work over slants  I don’t know how that functions with the redaction of books that we were passionate about earlier
[2018-10-18T18:52:59Z] mahla008: I think there can be room for both, books on display and book redaction
[2018-10-18T19:36:41Z] batzl015: I totally agree
[2018-10-18T19:37:01Z] batzl015: We should be intentional about how those things relate though
[2018-10-18T19:37:31Z] batzl015: Maybe they’re the same, like redacted and displayed
[2018-10-18T21:55:34Z] feria006: I think the slant is super dope. #slantgang
[2018-10-19T00:25:34Z] olson175: could there be lighting under the benchs?
[2018-10-19T03:35:12Z] kesse046: Here's a quick model of a bench in Sketchup. 12 benches will cost ~$315 (including tax.) I looked on the Home Depot website and found the 2x4s (8' long) are $2.59 per piece and the 4'x8'x3/4" plywood is $20.07 per piece. It will take a total of 20 8' long 2x4's, and 12 sheets of plywood to construct all 12. The bench's dimensions are 1 1/2' x 1 1/2' x 8'
[2018-10-19T03:36:00Z] kesse046: This design is modeled off of Haley's design

Prison Life in Scandinavia - Discover Scandinavia
https://www.dailyscandinavian.com/prison-life-in-scandinavia/
[2018-10-23T02:02:17Z] olso6229: >_Based on figures, it’s safe to assume Norway’s criminal justice system is doing something right. Few citizens there go to prison, and those who do usually go only once. So how does Scandinavia accomplish this feat? The countries rely on a concept called “restorative justice,” which aims to repair the harm caused by crime rather than punish people._

Why Scandinavian Prisons Are Superior
https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/09/why-scandinavian-prisons-are-superior/279949/
[2018-10-23T02:12:24Z] olso6229: >_Cellblocks look like dorms at a state university. Though worse for wear, rooms feature flat-screen TVs, sound systems, and mini-refrigerators for the prisoners who can afford to rent them for prison-labor wages of 4.10 to 7.3 Euros per hour ($5.30 to $9.50). With electronic monitoring, prisoners are allowed to spend time with their families in Helsinki. Men here enjoy a screened barbecue pit, a gym, and a dining hall where prisoners and staff eat together. Prisoners throughout Scandinavia wear their own clothes._
[2018-10-23T02:20:57Z] olso6229: >_Each prisoner has a “contact officer” who monitors and helps advance progress toward return to the world outside—a practice introduced to help officers avoid the damage experienced by performing purely punitive functions: stress, hypertension, alcoholism, suicide, and other job-related hazards that today plague American corrections officers, who have an average life expectancy of 59._
[2018-10-23T02:23:28Z] olso6229: >_Throughout Scandinavia, criminal justice policy rarely enters political debate. Decisions about best practices are left to professionals in the field, who are often published criminologists and consult closely with academics._
[2018-10-23T02:36:02Z] renst011: Heyo everyone, newsletter #2 is in progress so if you haven't sent your individual assignments or documentations to me yet from the last 3-4(ish) weeks of class that you'd want to include, please do soon! Especially from gallery arrangements, responses to thoughts brought up in class, etc. Not everything will be able to make it into print but I want to make sure I have everyone's stuff. This won't include the physical conceptualization/buliding yet (besides Jocie's chair and maybe Evan's cart) but mostly the progress of thought and movement in prep for the spacial outcomes that are happening now. Feel free to shoot me any questions as well! Thank you!!

[2018-10-23T20:50:25Z] mahla008: It's really interesting how she talks about the many ways shes redacted this one book, but not only that but in way she thinks about the words and how they relate and what they mean next to each other
[2018-10-23T20:50:42Z] mahla008: its an interesting watch for those interested in redaction
[2018-10-23T20:57:45Z] mahla008: "Everything was still there, I just couldn't see it all. At some point the redaction itself became a compositional tool, I began to treat it almost like an element of grammar or an element of language, so the blacked out words themselves had as much significance as the words you could see. It was no longer just about concealing the things, its about revealing other things that had been obscured by syntax and narrative, by the conventions of language"

One as we hear it and one redacted. Kinda similar to the redaction project i posted eariler how what isnt there is just important as what isn't.

[2018-10-24T03:41:59Z] olso6229: In my tutor/TA days I used to regularly help a guy who was legally blind, we had a machine he used to read assignments which basically just made things 10000x contrast and some zooming
[2018-10-24T03:42:26Z] mahla008: woah what does that look like
[2018-10-24T03:42:35Z] olso6229: If I remember right he had a portable kind of version of that, or it was setup in the classroom, so he could see high contrast silhouettes of the professor and stuff written on the board
[2018-10-24T03:44:08Z] olso6229: Around the same time I knew someone else who was legally deaf and I've seen on social media over the years he's made a lot of posts about his appreciation of film, he probably notices more microexpressions and good acting because of the loss of one sense
[2018-10-24T03:45:07Z] mahla008: wow
[2018-10-24T03:46:08Z] danks010: Thats super cool! Thanks for sharing! It's amazing to realize the ability our senses have, especially when one is lost...glad you followed up on Boris's suggestion Jakob. And thanks for sharing your insight Lee.
[2018-10-24T03:46:44Z] mahla008: Ive never really thought about books in terms of someone who is visually impaired or audio books to someone who is hearing imparied
[2018-10-24T03:47:17Z] olso6229: tactile
[2018-10-24T03:47:29Z] olso6229: what happens when we pay attention to the feel of the books in our hands
[2018-10-24T03:47:41Z] olso6229: does that change how think about presenting them
[2018-10-24T03:47:47Z] mahla008: thats interesting
[2018-10-24T03:48:02Z] mahla008: I don't know but its an interesting question
[2018-10-24T03:49:36Z] mahla008: Does anyone know if they make braille books?
[2018-10-24T03:50:03Z] mahla008: Well I know they do but from what I can see from like a quick amazon search not really that many
[2018-10-24T03:50:15Z] mahla008: Are braille books banned in prison?
[2018-10-24T03:53:55Z] olso6229: what if we made a braille zine
[2018-10-24T03:54:03Z] olso6229: braille manifesto
[2018-10-24T03:54:07Z] mahla008: that sounds hard but cool
[2018-10-24T03:55:49Z] mahla008:
[2018-10-24T03:56:14Z] mahla008: Confirmation the gift and how can I help are at stillwater
[2018-10-24T03:58:39Z] mahla008: I wonder what will happen to them next?
[2018-10-24T04:09:06Z] schra470: That’s so awesome! Gosh I’d love to see who’s hands those books could end up in if they were allowed into the prison library
[2018-10-24T04:14:02Z] mahla008: I hope we get to find out, they are supposed to send me a letter so maybe I will find out soonish
[2018-10-24T04:18:48Z] schra470: Great! Keep us posted  thanks again you guys for doing this, what a cool way to get involved
[2018-10-24T12:25:24Z] batzl015: Super cool stuff Jakob, pretty wild to know Ram Dass is in the hands of the warden.
[2018-10-24T12:50:54Z] olson175: re your question about the deaf and sight, it's def the case that they "hear" some through "seeing" and lip reading requires a sorta expanded sense of reading the different layers of visual information!
[2018-10-24T16:24:11Z] santo204: Is anyone driving to Moon Palace books that I could possibly get a ride with?
[2018-10-24T16:31:12Z] olso6229: Talk to Haley, Sasha, and Kailee
[2018-10-24T16:33:06Z] schra470: what time works for you guys to head out? I can pick you up from wherever!
[2018-10-24T16:33:25Z] olso6229: For all the people going, Moon Palace has a generously sized parking lot FYI
[2018-10-24T16:33:39Z] olso6229: that group is the 4pm squad
[2018-10-24T16:34:08Z] olso6229: Including
[2018-10-24T16:34:21Z] olso6229: And
[2018-10-24T16:37:52Z] schra470: Sweet okay :+1::skin-tone-3: thank you!
[2018-10-24T17:21:40Z] santo204: I’m off work at 3 & can go be ready on campus
[2018-10-24T17:25:39Z] schra470: :+1::skin-tone-3: sounds like I’m picking up a crew from rapson at 4? If anyone wants in for sure, let me know by then!
[2018-10-24T18:10:05Z] santo204: Thank you! I’ll for sure be at Rapson by 4
[2018-10-24T20:10:43Z] watso595: could I get in on that?
[2018-10-24T20:12:06Z] schra470: Yes for sure!
[2018-10-24T20:15:29Z] watso595: Where are we meeting?
[2018-10-24T20:16:11Z] santo204: Let’s just meet in the studio
[2018-10-24T20:16:57Z] schra470: I’m actually at home right now so I’ll just pick you guys up in that new little turn-around thing between the Northrop parking garage and Rapson at 4! I drive a blue Hyundai Elantra
[2018-10-24T20:57:40Z] schra470: Waiting outside rapson!
[2018-10-24T21:11:21Z] mahla008: Got some good books at moon palace u guys might get here before we leave
[2018-10-24T21:16:38Z] olso6229: :crescent_moon::ocean:
[2018-10-24T22:09:57Z] karle029:

Handball Saved My Life: A Sport Behind Bars
https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/yp7yyv/handball-saved-my-life-a-sport-behind-bars
[2018-10-25T04:13:20Z] danks010: Insane article about the power of handball in prison.
[2018-10-25T04:41:26Z] danks010: Possibly an overlap area for the tape group and the handball group? Thoughts?
[2018-10-25T16:39:13Z] fasbe023: ok everyone. disregard that first link, here is the link to the AndyG exercise
[2018-10-25T16:39:16Z] fasbe023:
[2018-10-25T17:34:12Z] feria006: Here’s an idea for a plan for a Handball Exposition. Covering each wall and the respective floor space with overlapping handball courts. I think maybe a video or using audio or noise music of different handball sounds coming out of the space.
[2018-10-25T19:48:43Z] olso6229: Oooooo i love the overlapping courts
[2018-10-25T19:49:57Z] olso6229: We’re chasing down light rentals. Sunbelt Rentals is a prime choice for us right now
[2018-10-25T20:34:50Z] olso6229: Filled it :slightly_smiling_face: thanks
[2018-10-25T20:35:19Z] olso6229: Quick update on lights for everyone:
[2018-10-25T20:36:41Z] olso6229: Sunbelt Rentals has 6 balloon lights ready to go, no minimum quantity for rental, fine to use indoor at the museum, no foreseeable problems with the outlets and power draw/breakers. Sunbelt’s warehouse/supply is off of 35E and Hennepin, about 5-10 min north of the U campus.
Colten is going to Menards and Home Depot this weekend to check out the light rental situation.
Parker is still waiting for campus facilities to get back to him.
We're also looking into Powermoon LED balloon lights.
Other ideas? Anything we missed? :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-25T20:37:24Z] olso6229: Powermoon lights can be set up / torn down in less than 5 minutes
[2018-10-25T20:39:06Z] olso6229: They also match Danny's comment about blue-grey enamel paint in prisons.
[2018-10-25T21:34:33Z] douga018: Here's the Handball Tape Layout that we ended on in class today.

[2018-10-27T00:10:36Z] olso6229: I have a photo of myself with some friends with this ROLU project from 2012. Also the executive director at american craft council used to be the Curator of Public Practice and Director of Education at the Walker Art Center. do you have any memories / stories about Sarah, either from this project, Fritz Haeg’s residency, or otherwise?

[2018-10-27T03:02:21Z] mahla008: Oh yeah, i was litteraly just looking at the "truisms"
[2018-10-27T03:17:48Z] mahla008: At the UMN reuse center 30$

[2018-10-27T13:48:01Z] olson175: "Plant Seeds with Care"
If we act constructively, happiness will ensue; if we act destructively, problems will result…We create the causes by our actions, and we experience their results.
—Ven. Thubten Chodron, from “What Is Karma?”
[2018-10-27T15:01:32Z] olso6229: Alright, what’s the weekend scoop? Where’s everyone at?
What all is on our plate? Benches, shelves, lights, tape, balloons, performance, redaction, outreach, proposal document? Did I miss anything?
do we have ideas for tape color/material? what type of tape won't leave an adhesive residue? What effect will a matte or glossy tape have when it interacts with the lights? Can we borrow or rent from anyone, or is it easier to buy? Maybe the theatre dept. at Rarig will be kind to us? Either way, they probably have some interesting and unexpected advice for us. :slightly_smiling_face:
+ + Is there a way to incorporate redaction into the larger conversation of what we're doing? Does it become part of the Target Gallery space? A performance outside of or within in WAM? If you're interested in opening it up as a larger conversation, I can connect you with Jen of MPWW and/or Junauda of Free Black Dirt?
Can our redaction poetry become part of a zine issue or Tumblr?
+ + Anything new on the balloon front? Is there the potential to combine the redaction group's work and balloons? LOVE balloons? A balloon performance?
Can handball and balloons tie together? Any ideas with the tape group for a handball event in WAM? How do we get the word out on this? :slightly_smiling_face:
is going to Re-use today to possibly pick up test lights
is checking out Menards + Home Depot for light rentals
and I are checking with light rental companies.
is it better to hold off on the Goldsworthy performance until after the 14th?
and , can you coordinate with Kevin / Justin / whomever about time in the shops? I see on the calendar there are BDA (box problem+dimensional color), PDES, GDES, and furniture classes that will flood the shop soon. It looks like afternoons are a bad time for us?
+ + can we get some mockup bench/shelf masses made to test in WAM alongside lights? Something simple made from scrap material? I think it’ll be great to use those to inform lighting and tape placement. :slightly_smiling_face:
And for everyone, can we follow the mantra Danny learned from his sculpture professor and passed on to us, “How much can I take away from this before it becomes something else? Peel it away to the most powerful elements.” Danny asks if we can keep it open, graceful, and thoughtful? Place-making and experiential qualities are our tools.
How can we peel the layers of everything we're doing to their most authentic, powerful, and essential parts? Simplicity comes after complexity.
[2018-10-27T15:03:53Z] olson175: Holy shite! (Irish accent) Lee. Psyched. This is a team. Thanks!
[2018-10-27T15:07:22Z] olson175: I'm sorta obsessing about this image/idea? It feels punk... and maybe a little post-Habitability? So I love the aesthetics. It would be really easy to make a version of something based on this. It would be incredibly cheap. And thanks Lee for invoking what Danny said about reduction... because this is simple. Thoughts?
[2018-10-27T15:10:28Z] olson175: Benches made from 14" tall sliced Sonotubes... ready-mix bags... Simpson strong ties for piers to elevate off the footing... or maybe we could custom make some more formal ones like in this pic? Then some sort of matching bookshelves or book presentation objects on casters? (Didn't someone mention A-frames at some point? maybe?
[2018-10-27T15:10:59Z] batzl015: Moving with the complex->simple mantra seems to be the way
[2018-10-27T15:11:14Z] olson175: Maybe some redacted text prints on tubes?
[2018-10-27T15:11:24Z] batzl015: I think we’re getting there with what we were doing on Thursday but I think it still needs something else
[2018-10-27T15:12:26Z] olso6229: I totally get and love sonotube seating from a time/material/construction POV. Stay fluid, right? I feel it’s honest to Danny and the essence of his work/subject matter, and will evoke the feelings we’re going after. As a bonus: the clarity/strength of this + smaller budget + less shop time is a WIN+WIN+WIN between Boris, WAM, Gayla, the Rapson shops, and (of course) us
[2018-10-27T15:12:37Z] olson175: This wouldn't require the shop as much either
[2018-10-27T15:13:35Z] olso6229: What're you feeling, chief?
[2018-10-27T15:15:23Z] batzl015: I need to work it a little more. Would you be down to get together today to throw down? Maybe get a large group formed to go hard on design?
[2018-10-27T15:16:11Z] batzl015: I like a triple win option
[2018-10-27T15:16:45Z] batzl015: When can we all get together today or tomorrow? Does a when to meet work?
[2018-10-27T15:17:53Z] olso6229: Let's go chief
[2018-10-27T15:18:09Z] olso6229: Can you set up the W2M link?
[2018-10-27T15:20:12Z] olso6229: I can meet both today and tomorrow
[2018-10-27T15:23:33Z] schra470: I am very free!
[2018-10-27T15:25:40Z] boris: Hello people. Just noting it here that I do not monitor what happens on slack. If you need a response from me please send an email (or text if it's urgent)
[2018-10-27T15:26:09Z] olso6229: Thank you for the heads up, Boris :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-27T15:28:05Z] batzl015: Do y’all want to meet at some point around noon?
[2018-10-27T15:28:34Z] olso6229: Yes
[2018-10-27T15:28:37Z] batzl015: Idk what we would do but there’s a lot to do, so we’ll figure it out
[2018-10-27T15:28:47Z] olso6229: Totally :+1:
[2018-10-27T15:29:06Z] batzl015: I’ll prob bring lunch/a snack if people wanna bring food for a throwdown
[2018-10-27T15:29:12Z] batzl015: Meet in studio?
[2018-10-27T15:30:04Z] olso6229: BDA it is chief
[2018-10-27T15:30:43Z] schra470: Yeah I’m in!
[2018-10-27T15:31:18Z] watso595: I’ll be in the laser lab so if you guys could fill me in or wanna meet down there that’d be cool
[2018-10-27T15:31:27Z] olso6229: can you make a meeting post with location+time back into the general chat? :slightly_smiling_face:
[2018-10-27T15:32:03Z] batzl015: Sure! Would an email be helpful too?
[2018-10-27T15:32:15Z] olso6229: What number can we contact you at?
[2018-10-27T15:32:23Z] schra470: Definitely
[2018-10-27T15:35:07Z] batzl015: Hey, who can should come to the BDA studio at noon today to throw down on all parts of our project.
Urgency is high, but so is energy!
We will likely have to meet tomorrow as well, so keep posted if today is full for you.
