Imperial High Prince Skywalker - Outfit Concept Art by lovey-dovey-and-sad; after-edits by emilianadarling
The final version of these sketches by @lovey-dovey-and-sad that I shared a few months back. 😍🙏💖 Wow!!  I did a few lighting, editing, and detail edits in consultation with lovey herself with @universeinorbit’s art beta suggestions
Specifically, this is Luke’s outfit when he disembarks the shuttlecraft in ‘only as strong as the warrior next to you’ Chapter 9. Later, a galactic newscaster reports on him as giving ‘big Sith energy’ during the visit as a result of that bold, distinctive colour.)
Eternal thanks for helping me workshop the writing of the outfit while I was writing the fic, lovey, and for bringing this outfit from words on a screen to stunning visual life!

The Redress
Imperial Prince!Luke Skywalker x Reader Fluff
Summary: Your past wedding wasn't enough for him, the way it happened and the scene you were in. He needed more, he wanted you to have more.
Warnings: fluffff, suggestive tone in one piece of dialogue

GIF NOT MINE!!
•--•
"What's troubling you?" you asked, placing your fork down, handle against the edge of your plate with pasta still rolled around the bottom of the forked edges.
Your dress billowed off your arms, the close to transparent fabric dyed a deep, royal blue, same as the ones that flowed over the black silk underneath it, torso a solid black color with embroidered golden edges.
Luke had handpicked your gown, chose the restaurant you sat at accordingly to you, the prettiest scenery in the open air balcony. And he picked the prettiest place to stay, a cottage in his family name, two stories tall and cozy. It was secure in the woods alone, forests only packed with deer, wild foxes, birds, tame animals.
The lush forest of Batuu, accompanied with a village outside of the secluded foliage helped him finalize his idea. He knew the way you were, the way you wanted cozy and quiet, but not completely alone. Much different from his father, he learned to respect your never-ending want to see life and watch things, and others, grow.
You were the soft part of the Empire, as his dad put it. But everything evil had a soft spot. And everything Luke was made of didn't allow him to hide his own - being you.
He sighed and planted his elbow on the table, resting his cleft chin on his hand and let his index finger run across the scar that trailed over his lips. A bad habit he developed when he got nervous.
"I want to speak to you about something. It's very last minute, and you might not be ready for something like this and-"
You interrupted him, "Did the Emperor want a heir already?"
"I- No!" Luke said, blushing intensely, something you didn't see too often, "No, I want to.. correct our wedding. I want to do it our way. Well- technically it would be my way but you've spoken about your ideal wedding before. I just want you to be happy with it. Happier."
You looked at him with pure shock. You'd remembered the pain that went through your heart one day when your mind started running a million miles and hour. And when Luke had sensed it, sniffed it out and hunted you down to ask what could be wrong, you'd confessed to him. You confessed that you wanted something more real, where you could actually feel the wind billow in your hair and your dress. And so you could feel like you weren't being watched.
You wanted it to be you and him. In a secluded place with high trees and friendly animals and plants surrounding you. You told him you wanted something beautiful, something original. And he would do anything to make his beloved princess happy.
And he had just made you so happy, knowing that the event would be happening soon. Knowing that he meant this place. It was mid-day, and maybe that's why he had taken you to eat so early on. Everyone would be settling in a few hours, leaving the trees near your cottage alone for good that day.
You had never interrogated Luke on who he talked to, but you should've known when you'd overheard him ask for Sarah, the woman who ran all of your wardrobe decisions with yourself and Luke included, that he had a plan unfolding.
Your heart skipped a beat. Of course Luke listened to you, you should've known he would. He never settled for hearing you say you wanted something. He would only settle if you had it. His determination made you soften inside.
"Really? When is it? Is it soon?" you asked, face lit up with interest, watching your whole self begin to smile.
Luke laughed at the way your eyes locked onto his own, watching him like he created every planet, every sun and every moon. Like he created every star and starship in the sky.
"When do you want it to happen, we are here for a few days, you can have control over our plans from here on, my dove," he spoke evenly, lifting his head from his hand and letting it rest on the table, waiting for yours to rest intertwined with his own.
You rested your hand in his and watched your grin become contagious.
"Would you- Can we do it today? Would you want to do it today?" you asked, hoping that if he were to say anything, it would not be a no. Your heart took a pause before you saw something flicker in his crystalline blue eyes, spiked deeper shades in the irises.
His eyes had softened, "I was hoping you would say something like that."
His hand reached up to brush hair behind your ear, running the side of his finger over the cartilage and flitting over your jawline, "Maker, I will forever muse over how gorgeous you are. When they told me about you, how you were the most beautiful girl on Tatooine I almost laughed because I didn't think it was possible. And when I saw you, I wanted to laugh harder because you were the most beautiful girl in the galaxy. It was ridiculous how they could undermine your beauty."
You felt your cheeks start to hurt, so tensed from the smile that you couldn't seem to swipe away. You wished there was a way to describe how it felt like you were swallowing down your pulse, how your head felt like it was being turned inside out , wrung out like a wash-cloth. And the way your muscles seemed to warm with a want to reach over and kiss him.
You kissed his finger, grabbing his hand to kiss each and every one of them. Fading into reality, you looked around the empty balcony before resuming to your food, flashing your lover a quick smile.
And once again. It was a contagious smile.
•--•
You slipped the dress on, your gut clenching with guilt at the fact that outside, the dress could collect dirt from the hardened ground. But when you called to Luke to tell him that, he only brushed off your concern and assured you that the Empire has cleaned worse.
You had flats on, easier to walk in. And seeing them didn't matter much because Luke would be the only eyes. You had left your hair down, treating it a way you so pleased. And then you took a moment, looking at yourself in the full-body mirror set in the cottage. You looked... gorgeous, even to yourself. You felt tears well up in your eyes and you felt the urge to rush to Luke, who was outside the door.
How many times had you truly felt this... pretty? You can't recall, all you can recall is the fact that you hadn't felt this way in that cold, holoprojected room with its holoprojected walls and its holoprojected wind.
You hated being in that room, where Vader could watch his son get married to a bride from a planet that he used to reside. In the place that wasn't truly real, just a video on a wall. You didn't want to pretend to get married on that stone ledge on Naboo. You wanted to get married here, alone with your lover.
You stepped outside into the pouring rays of light. Planets seemed the brightest when the sun was setting, pulled streaks of yellow bursting through the trees like they had something to say to you. And they must've been speaking to Luke. Because when you turned your head to him, he almost looked entranced.
You see the gold light flashing over his back, wrapping him in this warm glow that you'd never seen him in. And he's gorgeous. He's so fucking gorgeous, awestruck like he was watching a goddess float down from the heavens above, bringing this halo down with her. And the halo hugged him, wrapping around his waist and his arms and embracing his legs like they begged to be worshipped. The way his scar was brightened, in the shadow but still clearer than it's ever been. It made him even more the handsome.
How was he allowed to be so perfect? How was he allowed to love you when his flaws made him even more perfect?
You made your way towards him without even commanding your feet to move, body begging you to touch him, see him up close, make sure he was real.
"Y/n," he spoke, voice cracking off at the end. Luke wasn't one to say your name a lot, he loved the pet names that he gave you and he loved the way you reacted to them with warmth.
His eyes sparkled with the call of your name, shining this bright blue that seemed like it could cut glass, scar others. But to you, oh to you they traced the contours of your face with their sharp edges. They shred your hair into the tiny strands they were and watch it flow with grace. Luke's eyes were shallow pools, ones that narrowed into a lake when his enemies threatened him.
And to him, you were the hard push of winds, shoving sand at him. Only when you were with him did that blue become so shallow, collect so much surface.
You neared him, smiling so widely, grabbing him by the forearms. The texture of his sleeves underneath your finger reminded you of his status. Of how important he truly was. Yes, he had always been important to you, but he was important to so many more people. He was important to his father, to his legacy, to the Empire.
But in his eyes, you only saw your own reflection.
"Luke," you slid your hands down his arms, gliding over the delicate cuffs and clutched his hands in yours. You felt bare skin against your own, a fact that made you beam with joy. His fingernails were cut down and manicured, hands smooth even through all the callouses that the lightsaber hilt should have applied.
"You look gorgeous," he whispered. His voice was gentle, like you'd disappear if his tone had raised. You left out an equally as gentle laugh puff out of your lungs, feeling your face warm at his compliment. He had never failed at making you blush.
You opened your eyes, seeing his cheeks dusted pink, scar crinkling with his skin as he let his smile shine, straight teeth blaring the color white.
You leaned in, kissing the cleft in his chin twice, looking up at him from such a close angle almost didn't allow you to see him through your eyelashes at all. But you knew that this was the reason. The reason why you loved him so much because of this close perspective of the man you had already married so many months ago. He was someone that brought genuine safety to you, even when he was angry he always made you feel comfortable. When you were this close, being able to inhale his exhales, you knew you could truly never be safer. He was where you belonged and felt comfortable with.
"I swear to you, my whole lifeline, my star that shines through the night, that if there was another life that I couldn't live with you, I'd hate it. You are what I fight to keep, what I fight to protect. As... cruel as it may sound, to me there are no lives I fight for if they aren't your own. If anything were to happen to you, I do not know what I would do," he spoke, holding your hands tightly, "My future is clear to me where we stand. If anything were to happen, if you wanted something more, or something less, I'd leave the Empire to give that life to you. If you begged me to stay here, or to not return to the Death Star, I wouldn't deny you."
You leaned up to press your forehead to his. His hair tickled you, a fresh smile on your face.
"Oh Luke," you said. He opened his eyes, looking at you with something like childish wonder. The way you said his name so softly always sent him spiraling.
"I had often heard your name on Tattooine. It was a small town where a lot of word got around. Divorces, marriages, pregnancies, new hires, it always spread fast. And the Empire spread faster. When they had said that the Emperor found his son, that he was handsome and powerful, all the girls gushed over you. And I'll admit, I was jealous I would never be able to grab your attention like they could have."
Luke pressed a kiss to your lips, "I assure you, you outshine every face I've seen."
You giggled, "But- But I remember when that hysteria went away and everyone started looking at the people around them. I was with this boy, and he treated me the best someone could get on that sandy planet; he apologized when he felt like it, he left when he wanted to and he argued with me only to shut down every opinion I had. And I thought that's how life was meant to be. I thought that loving meant to listen and wait. But you've made me realize- there is so much more. You are so much more than I ever could have wanted. I love you, Luke Skywalker. I love you."
Your prince, ever so stoic, ever so elegant. Ever so respected. Yet he melted in your hands, at your words. He removed his hands from yours and planted them on your face before kissing you passionately, lips molding in a kiss so fervent that the ground around you wanted to shake.
I love you. His response echoed through the caverns of you mind.

"The Empire's victory in the Battle of Hoth has brought hard times for the Rebel Alliance. Han Solo has been frozen in carbonite by Darth Vader, and two huge bounties have been placed on the head of Luke Skywalker. The Empire wants him alive, but Prince Xizor, underlord of the most powerful criminal organization in the galaxy, wants him dead. Worse still is that the diabolical Xizor is holding Princess Leia Organa prisoner in his castle on the Imperial Center of Coruscant. This is a tactical maneuver, part of a larger master plan to lure Skywalker into his castle where he can be easily eliminated -- the key step in Xizor's plan to replace Darth Vader at the Emperor's side. Unaware of this danger, the young Jedi and Lando Calrissian sneak into Imperial City hoping to rescue Leia. Simply laying foot on Coruscant is a dangerous act for these two: high on the Empire's list of most-wanted outlaws, they could be easily recognized and captured -- or assassinated. Disguising themselves as beggars, they "borrow" the armored uniforms from a pair of elite Coruscant stormtroopers. These troopers are some of the Empire's finest, selected as home guards for the wealthiest and most cultured city in the galaxy. Joining forces with Chewbacca and Dash Rendar, Skywalker and Calrissian attempt to infiltrate Xizor's nearly impenetrable stronghold and rescue the princess."

shyowl : fruitful and twisted. Chapter 3, missing scene : the people's reaction of the royal family announcing little lu. Pleaseee
UGH. GODS YES. Fruitful and Twisted, chapter 3, by @thewriterowl
Send me a missing scene!
The roar of the crowd deafens him, the loudest thing Luke has ever heard. He forces himself to stay stoic, relying on his training, his studies. He is The Last Jedi, Padawan to Obi-Wan Kenobi, son of the greatest Jedi who ever lived. It is only a crowd. He will not cower, despite the insidious compulsion to do so.
It's only a body.
I am a luminous being, he tells himself, though it does nothing to erase the blush darkening his face. The "robe" he's wearing — more of a long shirt, really, that opens in the middle and barely falls to the tops of his thighs — is sheer enough that the people filling the Empress's courtroom can see everything, the modest slip of cloth holding his junk doing next to nothing to conceal him.
Beside him, the man Luke refuses to think of as his twin is wearing an identical garment, though black, while Luke's is white. He releases the swell of jealousy he feels to the Force, tearing his gaze away from his Sith-self's posed form. Black had been his signature color since Bespin, it feels wrong to wear anything else.
The darker robe also hides more of his other self's body, to his annoyance, despite being equally as sheer as his own. The tone of Luke's skin stands out starkly beneath the white fabric, a contrast to the man sharing his seat, who appears merely sensuous, almost regal. It highlights his vulnerability, adds an air of helplessness the citizens of the Empire seem to flock to en masse. Though maybe that's the point.
"As you all know, our son Lukas has been our pride and joy, the greatest gift the Force had ever given us," the Empress, his not-mother, says to her adoring court, the holocams hovering at the base of the stairs leading to her and Vader's thrones.
"I am overjoyed to announce the return of Prince Lukas's younger twin, His Imperial Highness, Prince Luke Skywalker," her smile turns a little playful, girlish, almost. Luke feels his stomach sink to the balls of his feet. "Or little Lu, as his big brother is fond of calling him."
The crowd erupts into cheers, echoed by the throng of people outside the Palace walls, filling the streets, all of Imperial Center congregated to see his publicized humiliation.
Lukas takes his hand, squeezes it tight, the way Leia always used to, and pulls him to his feet, standing side by side in front of their shared throne. He loses his grip on his composure and curls away, his near nudity made so much worse by the simple act of standing. His ears burn hot enough to hurt when the people staring at him burst into adoring coos, aww's and oh's and look how sweet's.
"The Empire has long adored its Beguiling Prince, our firstborn son," Vader says, taking Padmé's hand the same way Lukas had taken his, threading their fingers together. "I trust all of you will welcome our youngest with the same depth of love and loyalty, as he tends to be a fair bit shyer than his older brother."
"The Shy Prince," the Empress decrees, smiling at the cheerful celebration that overtakes the courtroom, the moniker unanimously accepted. "He will serve you well, as I trust all of you will serve him."
"To the Shy Prince!" a Moff cries, raising a goblet of sweet smelling wine, igniting the people around him to do the same. Lukas chuckles at the display, taking the opportunity to reclaim their seat, sprawled a little less demurely, his robe sliding open all the way to his collarbones.
"Sit with me," he says, and pulls Luke down into his lap, disguising his thrashing as a quick fumble to comfortably arrange themselves. "You don't need to be scared, little Lu. They love you, you know."
Luke closes his eyes, turning to hide his face in his other self's throat, uncaring that he's mooning the Imperial Court and the holonet beyond — at this rate, they'll all see it, probably sooner than later. What does it matter?
"That's exactly what I'm scared of."

Your name is Luke Skywalker.
The most important thing you ever learn is this: Your mother’s name is Padmé Naberrie.
She’s beautiful and stunning and you can trace your nose and small statue back to her.
The next lesson you keep in mind is not one ever told to you, but shown with gentle hands: You are a Jedi and Jedi do not rule.
You don’t have the desire to do so either, are more content to guide and watch, to be a supporting pillar than a prince of a king.
Right now, you are neither. In another life, one where it might be your mother raising you, you could be both, you would be more.
“What is your name?” Her Imperial Highness hisses, temperament flaring in the Force and you are certain that for all she looks like your mother, Leia Amidala, Crown Princess of the Galactic Empire, has your father’s temperament.
You’ve never met him because your mother killed him when he tried to save you and your sister.
You were saved, you grew up loved and cherished, hiding underneath Obi-Wan Kenobi’s robes as he attended meetings with the other leaders of the Rebellion.
This is the last bit of knowledge instilled in you: your mother loved your father, loves him still. Saw his burdens and held her children and decided that she’d end it all, no matter how he begged or plead.
(And you saw your father beg still as a bled out, asked his love to listen, because Obi-Wan dreams of nothing else and his mind was always your refuge.)
“My name is Luke Skywalker,” you tell your twin sister. “Obi-Wan Kenobi sends his regards.”

I adore yours and Sinful Skywalker's HCs can you give me some Vader being overprotective of Luke? The darker the better.
Wow thank you! I'm a fan of @sinfulskywalker, part of the reason I got on tumblr despite hating social media.
Anyway disclaimers:
my HCs are sometimes derivates of @sinfulskywalker and @starboundanon's since I do not have a fic of my own. These are mine though.
While I can appreciate some darker fics, I prefer more wholesome and fluffier stories but I'll do my best. But please no one else ask for dark content from me. Not my thing.
Vader is a narcistic parent in my POV. I believe he loves his son (what Luke represents), but he does not love/respect Luke himself or cares about him as a person.
TW: infantilism, noncon drug use, withholding medical care, implied murder, somewhat narcistic parent behaviour, noncon caretaking
Bed Wetting: When Luke first accidentally wet the bed, Vader was concerned - was his precious son ill? But having Luke cry out for his Daddy whenever it happened was so addicting. Soon Vader began adding diuretics to Luke's night time bottles. All for his health of course! The last thing his baby needed was high blood pressure. He smiled when Luke sniveled in their bond after another accident. A calming bath and cuddle with his daddy is just what his distressed son needed.
Illness: Vader panicked outside Luke's bedroom. Luke contracted petal fever (looked it up!) after the pair returned from an imperial tour of a recently conquered planet. A medic soon assuaged his fears that the illness was caught in time and the prince would be fine. Vader's interest piqued when the medic informed him of a quick-acting cure - Luke would heal on his own but the medicine would speed up the process. Vader almost killed the foolish medic for not healing his son immediately before thinking that he and Luke deserved some quiet time together. His heart soared at the image of him caring for his poor baby. Medicine was not necessary Vader reflected as he cradled a dazed Luke wrapped in soft blankets to his chest, murmuring comfortingly to his whimpering son, trying to soothe him to sleep.
Embarrassment: Luke was hungry. He and his father had been on a publicity tour all morning in Coruscant and he was fed up with the farce. Vader, sensing his son's irritation, focused on Luke and examined his son closer. Then, he smiled softly, "Are you hungry darling?" Before Luke could reply, an attendant droid was summoned with a bottle of warm formula and Luke's soul froze in fear. No, not here, Luke begged his father through their bond but the attentive father ignored him, lifted him into his arms and shoved the nipple into his mouth before he could fuss. Hearing the uptick in camera flashes made Luke shrink in mortification. Even in the furor, he - and Vader - heard a scoff from one of the accompanying imperial officers in the travel party. The world seemed to crash to a stand still as Vader's loving gaze left Luke and turned to his impudent subordinate. Said officer paled as Vader set Luke gently in the cushioned palanquin before advancing menacingly with his saber drawn. Luke didn't even try to stop the bloodbath happening and wallowed miserably in the force. After a while, Vader returned and picked up Luke again to resume feeding him, cooing at his son softly. The holonet cameras are still streaming, Luke thought numbly. He quickly finished his drink and grunted when his father lifted him over his shoulder and patted his back. Luke's quiet belch seemed to snap onlookers out of their horrified stupor and the parents in the crowd awwed cautiously as the cameras began flashing again excitedly. Luke, utterly humiliated, buried his face in his father's broad shoulder and hid himself for the rest of the tour. Vader smirked in satisfaction, holding his son closer and reveling in the fear permeating through the other shaking officials. Holonet headlines praising Emperor Vader as a loving and protective father of the sweet prince were published by the end of the standard day.
PS: I have wanted a prompt like the 3rd one answered for a very long time so I kind of went overboard but oh well. Had some other ideas but this is long enough already :). If you liked this anon, feel free to tip me! Struggling college student here ;)

How Anakin and Padmé would've ruled the Empire
So, obviously, we've seen many, many fanfictions and AUs about Padmé joining Anakin and ruling the Empire with him. They've all given their takes on how their Empire would go, and this is no different.
Tumblr media
So, without further ado, here's my take (this'll be pretty long):
If Padmé joins Anakin, he'll be a lot more composed once he faces Obi-Wan, and something tells me Padmé would've just shot Obi-Wan before the two could begin their duel (sorry, Obi, but at least you're not necessarily dead). Padmé gives birth like normal, so Luke and Leia are pretty alright.
Anakin's still very much pissed off by the Jedi, so he won't let any of the surviving Jedi return and will still have them on their hitlist, but instead of saying that the Jedi committed treason, he'll simply say that the Jedi failed to protect the galaxy, so he and Padmé will do it themselves. That's also his explanation for his hatred towards the Jedi to Padmé.
Anakin, however, will eventually put a bounty on Ahsoka in the hopes to get to her, with an "Alive Only" condition along with stating his genuine intentions to get to her.
Once he is sure Padmé, Luke, and Leia are alright, he'll excuse himself to make an official announcement.
By this point, he'll reveal his marriage to Padmé and name her his Empress, explain the Jedi's failure, open up the military force to the population, put Padmé in charge of the Imperial Senate, and establish a new Order for Force Sensitives, but of course, the people registered into that Order will be allowed to form attachments and get to know their parents (let's call it the Skywalker Order)
Eventually, Ahsoka will be found and brought in, and Anakin will explain everything. She appears super reluctant at first but will eventually give in to her gripes with the Jedi Order and join Anakin. She'll be the Master of the Skywalker Order, only behind Anakin who is the Grandmaster.
Anakin will return to Padmé, and she'll be a tad bit confused as she fell asleep after giving birth. He'll explain that he was now the Emperor and she was now the Empress and that they could make their dreams come true, whatever they were.
Anakin and Padmé will live in Padmé's apartment for a while. Anakin will manage just about every part of the Empire for a bit as Padmé takes baby duties. She'll also eventually meet Queen Jamilia who states that Naboo will remain loyal to the government. She'll resign from being Naboo's senator.
Anakin and Padmé will eventually meet the Naberrie family. All will wonder why Padmé suddenly sided with an Empire but will understand it at some point. Sola, Jobal, and most of the family will warm up to Anakin quickly, but Ruwee will remain skeptical for quite some time. However, eventually he'll warm up himself.
There'll be some assassination attempts on the two for a while, but people will eventually warm up to the Empire as Anakin continuously targets slavery across the galaxy. Like the brilliant couple that Anakin and Padmé is, they'll scuff out the rebellion with time.
Anakin will probably write the Skywalker Code at some point (with some help from Padmé to make it sound more poetic):
With passion, I am strong.
With peace, I am strong.
Passion fuels my heart, and peace fuels my mind.
With only heart, I am unwise.
With only mind, I am unkind.
Forever should I hold passion and peace, then forever will I be strong.
I will not shut away my emotions, I will control.
I will not be ran over by emotions, I will control.
Forever should I control, then forever will I be strong.
Forever am I strong.
The Skywalker Order will not expect all Force Sensitives to be in it, however, but all Force Sensitives should be expected to be registered as Force Sensitives and will be given basic training to control their inherent powers. Still, the Skywalker Order will be a whole lot better than the Jedi Order and Sith Order.
Once Padmé is a lot more capable of heavy workloads, Anakin will hand over the entirety of political affairs to her while he focuses more on the military affairs. Speaking of the military, he'll also make Ahsoka the Supreme Commander.
Anakin also eventually finds a way to scientifically slow down one's aging, and he uses the serum that his team developed on him and Padmé. The two are also considering using it on their children as it didn't have much drawbacks.
Once the two get really comfortable in their new Empire, they'll establish a dynasty, so the Skywalkers remain in power. Anakin and Padmé will also adopt Ahsoka because that's been one of their dreams for a while, but they won't decide who'll inherit their throne just yet.
So, now, we have:
His Majesty The Emperor (Anakin)
Her Majesty The Empress (Padmé)
His Royal Highness The Prince Luke
Her Royal Highness The Princess Leia
Her Royal Highness The Supreme Commander (Ahsoka)
Eventually, Anakin will get a hold of Yoda who would've reminded him of Ahsoka had she not sided with him, but she did so...Yoda just gets killed. Obi-Wan is possibly dead already, so no point in bothering with that.
Anakin and Padmé planned on having only one more child, but they loved each other too much and ended up having five (not that they didn't love the five so much).
Once Ahsoka reaches her late 40s, she'll step down from Supreme Commander and simply be the Master of the Order, and Luke becomes Supreme Commander. Leia eventually ascends to the throne and falls in love with Han.
Padmé established a rule that the sovereign can choose to either make their spouse a coregent or a consort. Leia makes Han a Prince Consort instead of Emperor (not that Han is salty about it or anything - it made sense).
All of their kids end up happily married because as much as they're all so different, they're all drop dead gorgeous.
While all that is going on, Anakin and Padmé, still drop dead gorgeous in their 60s, eventually step down and retire to a private vacation house temporarily as they sought to enjoy the rest of their lives together.

Administrator Sly Moore conspires against Darth Vader
Tumblr media
Administrator Sly Moore has been in Emperor Palpatine’s inner circle when he was still Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. A cunning political figure hailing from the planet Umbara and who is Force-Sensitive, Moore is dangerous, possibly much more so than the Emperor’s other right-hand person, Grand Vizier Mas Amedda.
When Darth Vader was punished by Emperor Palpatine for his side quest of finding out more information about his son, Luke Skywalker, Moore was one of the allies the Emperor ordered to eliminate the former Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. After Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin, thought that he had defeated Vader on the volcanic planet of Mustafar, the Administrator felt that she had to pick up the pieces due to knowing that Vader could not be kept down that easily. After Vader got off Mustafar with Ochi as his prisoner, Moore was on board a Star Destroyer pursuing Vader and sending an entire fleet of TIE Fighters after him. However, the Sith quickly defeated the TIEs thanks to his skills as a pilot, his abilities in the Force, and a giant space creature enroute to the planet Exegol.
After she, Vader, and Ochi witness the Emperor’s true power and his plans involving Exegol, Moore also witnesses the Emperor’s armored enforcer being restored. However, this has the administrator concerned and by the end of “Darth Vader no.13,” she is revealed to have conspired with IG-88 and a secret group of followers to finally kill Vader.
Warning Spoilers Ahead
“Star Wars: Darth Vader no. 14” begins on the Imperial throne world of Coruscant where two Imperial cadets are in awe at how Darth Vader survived his ordeal on Mustafar by just being held together by Separatist droid parts. They comment that Vader is basically unstoppable. As Vader strides triumphantly with his new right hand man Ochi of Bestoon at his side, Administrator Sly Moore is not at all impressed.
Seeing her disappointment, Emperor Palpatine instigates jealousy within the Umbaran when he asks if she is satisfied with Vader being restored to full function and health. Sly admits that she failed to defeat Vader which the Emperor agrees and then chuckles as he walks away from her. To make matters worse, as the Umbara follows the Emperor, Grand Vizier Mas Amedda tells her that she is needed at the Prescreen Department. Moore quickly learns that due to her failure, she has been demoted to Sub-administrator. The Umbaran looks on as Amedda and Palpatine take the turbolift toward the Imperial Palace. Several Imperial officers and stormtroopers look on at the now Sub-administrator Moore.
Tumblr media
As I continue to read this series, I continue to praise Greg Pak as one of the many writers who knows how to write Star Wars along with Charles Soule. In this issue, the story’s main focus is on Sly Moore and the ongoing battle for supremacy within the Emperor’s inner circle. The inner conflict within the Galactic Empire is nothing new in Star Wars. We have seen plenty of Imperials conspire against each other or their allies. For example, there have been several past stories where the Grand Moff Tarkin has traded blows with Darth Vader. In addition, there have been previous comic issues where the Emperor has sent potential new enforcers or apprentices to kill Vader so that he can replace him. Furthermore, there have been other stories in the Star Wars Legends lore, like “Shadows of the Empire, '' where Vader has deep animosity for the Emperor’s ally and leader of the Black Sun criminal syndicate, the Falleen Prince Xizor. In this latest “Vader” issue, Paks narration and dialogue between the characters are a reminder of how the Sith operate with each other and their allies. I also feel that Pak’s inclusion of the subtle infighting within the Emperor’s inner circle is a reminder of the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis with Wise.
While toiling away at the Prescreen Department with two Imperial officers, the now Sub-administrator Moore discovers that a high-ranking Imperial has been given an invitation to attend the auction of the carbonite frozen Han Solo from Crimson Dawn. Moore also hears the name “Skywalker” and sees this as a potential opportunity to enact revenge on Darth Vader.
Moore begins to put her plan into motion by heading to the repair block where Vader was fully restored back in “Darth Vader no. 12” so that she can get the schematics on his machine-infused anatomy. Mas Amedda catches her and the two discuss their roles within the Emperor’s inner circle and how they serve the Sith and do not have the power to “indulge in their pleasures.” Sly being sly tells Amedda to pretend that he did not catch her while she, unbeknownst to the Grand Vizier, creates a holodisk containing the schematics on Vader’s anatomy.
It is here that we learn how bounty hunter assassin droid IG-88 was able to track down Vader and temporarily have the upper hand on him during their fight in the last issue. It was Moore and her fellow conspirators who provided the assassin droid and his army of droids with the disk.
Toward the end of the comic, we are left off at the part where IG-88 meets with Moore and her followers. The droid tries to terminate his bounty contract since Vader defeated him during their last encounter. Much to Moore’s horror, Vader sneaks behind IG-88 and slices the droid with his crimson-colored lightsaber. Moore and her followers flee from the Sith Lord while they try to kill him. Moore also tries using the same mechanism IG-88 used to defeat Vader but ultimately, Vader overpowers her.
Tumblr media
With no choice and admitting defeat, the Umbaran bargains with Vader by mentioning the Crimson Dawn invitation to the auction of Han Solo and also how Luke (who would not be far behind to rescue the smuggler) could potentially kill Vader. Sly makes a promise with the Sith Lord to purchase Solo for Vader so that the Sith could not only take Solo but also potentially fight Luke. The two come to a compromise on the plan. However, at the auction, things go south when Jabba the Hutt and his fellow Hutt, Bokku (who has allied with Vader) outbid Sly. The administrator is puzzled as to why Bokku, who is allied with Vader, is bidding against her. Ochi responds that it is the Hutt’s way to humiliate her and himself which in turn would expose her weakness to the Emperor. The assassin further explains that although Sly was very power with uniting her allies to defeat Vader, the Sith Lord is too powerful to let that happen. The end of this issue leaves off toward where “War of the Bounty Hunters no. 2” ended but with Vader inviting himself to the auction by force choking several Crimson Dawn guards.
As I mentioned before, the character of Administrator Sly Moore is very dangerous and shrewd. Greg Pak brought this character to life. Before the “Vader” comic, Moore was just a character who stood on the sidelines with a brooding expression in the “Star Wars” prequel films. Pak’s take on Sly Moore is a high ranking Imperial official who is an opportunist and a quick study. She is willing to do whatever it takes when an opening presents itself to execute her plan. She also is no push over when it comes to executing that plan by mentioning Luke Skywalker being the only person who could kill Vader and take his place. This shows that she is as much of a manipulator as the Emperor. In the end of the day, it doesn't matter who dies in the fight between Vader and Luke (who she may or may not know are father and son). One way or another, whoever dies, she would probably go for the killing bow.
I also like the direction Vader is going in this arc also. Yes, he knows that Luke is his son however, it seems that the Emperor wants to use that in order for him to have one less Skywalker to worry about. The Emperor is hell bent on manipulating Vader to kill Luke or vice versa since having an enforcer strong in the Force would serve his agenda. Especially if the Emperor was able to seduce someone as powerful as Anakin to the Dark Side. It will be interesting to see if Vader really is set on killing Luke or if this is just a ruse to get the Emperor off his scent of his own plans which involve having his son rule at his side.
Tumblr media
The art by Raffaele Lenco and the coloring by Jason Keith played just as huge of a role as Pak’s writing did in bringing Sly Moore to life. The drawings of Sly Moore show the stark differences between her time as administrator in the Galactic Republic to her time as administrator for the Empire. When she was administrator for the Republic, she was wearing a silver, or lighter, gown while under the Empire, she was wearing an all black short trench coat with black slacks and boots. In addition to her clothing, Moore’s facial features are further darkened and chiseled, possibly to show her age throughout the 23-years she has been in service to Palpatine. But I also think that those additional lines and shading on her face make her far more brooding than she did in the prequel films.
Overall, the “War of the Bounty Hunters” arc has been the blockbuster of the summer that has rocked the Skywalker Saga in the Disney era. There hasn’t been such an arc since the Shadows of the Empire that has changed the landscape and expanded the Star Wars Universe. With the inclusion of Han Solo’s ex girlfriend Qi’ra, from “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” pulling the strings by gathering all entities in the galaxy, there is no way that it would be a “Star Wars” blockbuster without Darth Vader. Greg Pak’s post “Empire Strikes Back” Vader is ruthless, determined, and cold-blooded. From what I read, he knows that he cannot take on the Emperor alone but he also knows that Luke could very well defeat him. With that, Vader has no choice but to kill Luke or at least defeat him enough so that he could have one less potentially powerful enemy to worry about. Or, as I mentioned before, Vader is likely playing possum and secretly wants to have Luke at his side (which he actually does) so that they can overthrow the Emperor.
“Star Wars: Darth Vader no.14” is now out wherever comic books are sold.

Luke and Leia vs the Galaxy
@silvereddaye
.Our favourite Space Twins against the Empire with varying degrees of success.
1. Legacy ---myrlendi (thehistorygeek)
Three months after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker goes in search of a rumoured Jedi temple in a secluded part of the Mid Rim. He finds within the temple nothing but a strange artifact, which unexpectedly brings him much closer to the Jedi of old than he ever thought he would be.
When Luke fails to return from his mission, Leia goes after him, retracing his steps to the ancient temple — and to the past, to the time of the Clone Wars and the waning years of the Old Republic. Under suspicion by the Jedi Order, the twins struggle to find a way back to their own time while trying to keep their knowledge of the future from affecting the past.
This, however, turns out to not be as simple as it seems.

5. Great as the Sea-- Valkirin
Rescuing the last of Alderaan's survivors was an important duty, not an obsession, and Leia did not need to take a break. She did not have time to think about Darth Vader, the Force, or Luke Skywalker. It’s just her luck that the Force sends her with Luke Skywalker to a time where Darth Vader is about to rise.

6. turn my sorrow into treasured gold - cosmicocean:
“It might be better for you to die,” Obi-Wan muses as she holds her children in her arms. Padmé looks up at him and arches an eyebrow.
“I didn’t mean literally,” he clarifies.
“I know what you meant. I’m thinking about it.”

Luke stared at the droid, his mouth open. "That's my sister!"

Meanwhile, Luke never expected his father to actively hunt him down, and he doesn't like it.
20.  the price of forgetting - surabayuh
Vader always thought that epiphany would come in waves; in the middle of meditation, perhaps, or a dream while he was resting, giving him unimaginable glee and satisfaction at its revelation.
He’d never thought epiphany would sledgehammer him here, at cell room number 2187, in the middle of an interrogation session, with an unconscious Alderaanian Princess laying on the floor.
(Part of the  the bang the war-drums series)
(Note* Read the rest of this series seriously its so good)
21.  heirs of the desert -- surabayuh
There was something about her, something familiar beyond the hairstyle or the attire; It was like a hole in his chest mended back by her presence. They walked closer to one another, slowly, slowly—like a planet realigning to their axis.
Dreams of a different life, a different reality, haunting him for as long as he could remember. Dreams of lush greeneries, of clear blue waters, of a high castle, of a brunette with bright brown eyes crinkling with laughter.
Leia, her name was Leia and he felt like he had known her his whole life, as if he'd known her as old as he had known time.
Around them, the Force sang.

(Part of the  the bang the war-drums series)
22. taste the regret (it's bittersweet.) - surabayuh
Han Solo didn't want much, really; he only agreed to pilot his way away from the grips of Jabba the Hutt, and maybe have a little adventure along the way. That was why he said yes to that old man's offer, back in Tatooine, why he came back to aid the Rebellion, back in Yavin.
But then again, who knew that somewhere down the line, he would have to be the middle-man in a galactic family drama that could determine the very fate of the universe?
Well; certainly not him.

(Part of the  the bang the war-drums series)
23. Endings and Beginnings, and Everything in Between - ITookTheOneLessTravelled
Dad might be mad at them, but Leia doesn't regret it. Luke and Leia Skywalker might be only fifteen, but they'd never have left their Dad in an Imperial prison cell to rot.
OR: Anakin raises the twins. Everything changes, but also nothing does.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6757639
24.  No Heroes on the High Seas - SpellCleaver
When Luke's aunt and uncle are executed by order of the Emperor's right hand, Lord Vader, he flees his home to search for his sister and the mother he never knew. But then Obi-Wan Kenobi stows away aboard the same ship, Vader gives chase, and Luke is dragged into a conflict that his family are at the very heart of.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17092340/chapters/40194893
25.  Ad Utrumque Paratus - obeyingthemuse
It's hard to bring balance to the Force when the only method you've seen is your black-cloaked psychic cyborg sorcerer dad with a severe breathing problem throwing an old man down the Death Star reactor shaft. As much as Luke would like to see the not-yet-Emperor dead, he doesn't want to be arrested by his unusually attractive(?) war-hero dad and spend the rest of his indeterminate time in the past dropping Ewok beats in a jail cell. Also Leia would probably kill him. But not before breaking him out of jail.
So when the twins wake up on Tatooine decades in the past, they play it safe. They take over a planet, reconnect with their adoptive and real parents without weirding them out (too much), and accidentally cause the Chancellor perpetual near-death experiences.
Nailed it.

Note
(Of Loyalty and Royalty) "You know, Captain Solo," the Empress said, delicately putting her wineglass down. Han tried not to stare at the motion, or at her, or anywhere. Things were always awkward around her. "I had my doubts, but I am beginning to see what Luke sees in you. I am glad he has you." Han breathed a sigh of relief. Then the Empress *had* to add, "Of course, my husband does not share this response."
Royal Imperial Skywalker AU (parts 1-6)
Send me things!!(always accepting, for this or any other verse, just… slow)
It had taken several minutes of insisting, and some creative thinking on his part, but Han had finally gotten Goldenrod out of his and Chewie’s collective hairs, having sent him off on some convoluted mission to find a very vital component for modifying the Falcon. It was weird enough being in the Palace, even with Luke, so being here without him was absolutely surreal. The night before had not been a restful one, that’s for sure.
At least now he had Chewie with him. Something about that big, walking fuzzball made everyone feel more at ease, it seemed – aside from the moments it was clear he was about to lose his temper. Then? It was best to steer clear, unless you wanted to lose an arm. But… even in the early days, Luke seemed to be comforted by his presence.
Han would argue until the day he died that he was not out of his mind for missing the fact that Luke was, indeed, the Imperial Prince, given just how fumbling the kid was right off the bat. Too earnest for his own good and stumbling over his words, you’d think he’d never spoken to another human being before. Which… well, clearly wasn’t the case, but perhaps he just didn’t have as much experience with the sorts of conversations regular folk might have. And for that, he always seemed so nervous when he tried to talk to Han. It was endearing, of course, and played a large part in winning the scoundrel over, but it absolutely screamed “Outer Rim Crop-Duster” without giving a hint at any form of nobility. And yet, when he was around Chewie, he seemed to just… relax. Words flowed much more naturally, whether he addressed the Wookiee or the captain, and a good portion of the tension he carried in his shoulders would just evaporate.
The ease of interaction between him and Luke had grown over the weeks, of course, but Chewie had always been an effective buffer in any situation. He was also effective when it came to negotiations for that very reason, and it was why Han almost wished his first mate had been around for the previous night’s dinner. True, all parties agreed it was for the best that he’d stayed behind, but still; it would have saved Han a lot of discomfort.
“Well, pal,” Han sighed, flopping down on his overly luxurious bed and sprawling out, “how’s it feel, living the high life?”
Perched awkwardly on the foot of the bed, Chewie gave Han a look absolutely brimming with irony. Given his history, as well as that of his people, Chewbacca had never really been in favour of an Imperial Regime in and of itself, but there was a certain level of respect he’d always held for the newfound freedom the Wookiees experienced under the current system. He would speak ill of the life of his people under the Republic, and the galaxy headed under Palpatine, but he carefully maintained an air of neutrality towards the current Royal Family. Through it all, though, Chewie had never sought a life of luxury. He’d always been content to live day to day, repaying the life-debt he was convinced he still owed Han and doing whatever he could to find his place in the galaxy.
Han supposed that over two centuries was plenty of life lived, and sometimes you just had to find your thrills no matter their source.
“Yeah, yeah, I getcha,” Han conceded, sitting back up and running a hand through his hair. “Can’t say I’m feeling all that at home here, either.”
Chewie took a few moments to glance around the room, taking in the décor and the pure extravagance everything seemed to exude, before he finally rumbled out his opinion on the matter.
As he pushed himself off the bed and wandered over to the balcony door, Han shook his head and sighed again. “Yeah, I agree, buddy. It really is… A lot, isn’t it? No wonder the kid felt restless here. I never woulda pinned him to live in a place like this, either.” He spent a brief moment looking out at the sprawling city below him, wondering just how Luke felt every time he took in the same view, before a wry grin spread across his face. “Wanna see a little more of where your new favourite cub grew up?”
Chewie rolled his eyes. On occasion, Han would complain about how much more Chewie liked Luke than him, a joke which seemed to have worn a little thin, but the fuzzball ultimately nodded, and the two breezed out of the room to get a closer look at the wing in which they were to reside for the foreseeable future.
***
“I know, pal.”
It turned out the Imperial Palace – or, at least the sections of it they had proper access to – was not as interesting as they would have liked it to be. They were in the guest wing, of course, and had encountered far too many droids restricting access to other, more interesting sections of the building. The two could make it past if they so chose, but decidedly chose not to, if only to avoid landing on the Empress and her husband’s bad side, and to not to piss off Luke or land him in any more hot water than he might already be in. So instead, they’d settled onto an elevated veranda, sprawling and luxurious and attended by a number of other droids who sought to meet their every need, feeling every bit as though they had landed themselves in a gilded cage of their own.
“I’m not sure what the next move is either.” Chewie draped a warm, hairy arm around his shoulders, and Han was grateful for it. “I can’t live here any more than you can. It just ain’t gonna happen. Luke knows that too.”
He left the next bit unsaid, and as Chewie finished his thought for him, Han found himself wishing he didn’t understand Shyriiwook nearly as well as he did.
For a moment, he tried ignoring his first mate, but another, more insistent rumble, accompanied by a not-quite-painful squeeze to his shoulder had him groaning. “You’re right, of course. As usual. I can’t stay here, and I can’t just drag Luke away from this place. I’m not sure we get to be happy, yanno? In a perfect world, I’d just take the kid with us, travelling the galaxy, adventurin’ from place to place, non-stop.” He paused and allowed the wry smile to twist at his lips. “Pretty sure Luke wouldn’t be strictly opposed to that, either. But…”
Silence rang heavy between them, even with the bustle of the city-planet below them. On another occasion, Chewie might have chimed in with the missing thought, again, but right now, it was clear there was no need. Han wasn’t avoiding it because he didn’t want to acknowledge it; he was avoiding it because it brought a level of pain he never wanted to confront when he was only just getting closer to Luke.
At the end of the day, it was duty that came into play, before anything else.
“Ah! Captain Solo!” Han nearly jumped out of his skin at the crisp tone of the droid as it interrupted his thoughts. “Here you are. And Chewbacca! I nearly thought I had lost you.”
He had to suppress a groan as he forced a grin and faced the gleaming golden droid. “Nope. Still here. Can’t get rid of us that easily.”
“Well, that is indeed excellent,” Threepio continued, completely missing the irony. “I do believe I have found the component you were looking for. I have placed it with your ship until such a time that you may require it.”
“Well,” Han drawled, genuinely surprised the droid had found anything, given his description, “I guess I’ll just have to take a look at it next time I’m fixin’ up the Falcon, and I’ll let ya know how you did, yeah?”
Chewie chuckled softly from behind him, but the droid carried on. “Her Majesty has requested your presence, Captain Solo. I must request that you follow me.” Request was more than likely putting it mildly.
Chewie raised a brow at the droid, rumbling a soft inquiry in Shyriiwook, but Goldenrod seemed unfazed. “I apologize, Mr. Chewbacca. While I recognize your desire to accompany the Captain, the Empress has asked to speak with him alone. However, if you so choose, I may wait with you outside her chamber while they carry out their business.”
The Wookiee was losing patience with the droid almost as quickly as Han was, but Chewie had always been better at maintaining his composure. Despite his own frustrations, he growled an agreement. Both Han and Chewie followed the protocol droid to the hallway leading to the Empress’ chambers, Han being ushered in while Chewie was pointed to a position just to the side of the doorway.
“Mistress Padmé awaits you inside, Captain Solo. I advise you do not keep her waiting.”
“Yeah?” Han felt his lips contort into a wry, contrary sort of smirk. “Well, I’ll make sure I don’t. I know better than to keep a woman like that waiting.”
“Indeed, you do have some wisdom in you after all, Captain Solo.” Threepio’s voice was chipper and polite as ever, but if he didn’t know better, Han would almost think the droid was mocking him.
“Right,” he replied, face darkening slightly, before turning to his friend. “See ya later, Chewie,” he said with a nod. “Try not to tear off Goldenrod’s arms while I’m in there.” He’d lowered his voice, but not enough to go undetected by a droid’s auditory sensors, and Han took more pleasure than he probably should have in the way Threepio seemed to jump at the comment.
Striding forward, the assured steps he took into the chamber worked to conceal the anxiety that truly roiled beneath Han’s composed exterior. Something about the Empress caused his legs to turn liquid and his wits to escape him. Luke was able to disarm him with his charm and catch him off guard enough to force him into idealism; the Empress disarmed him completely with her ability to read right into the core of his being.
Actually, every member of the family seemed to share that ability. His thoughts hadn’t felt private since he’d landed on Coruscant. The Empress could see right through him, the Princess shared her mother’s eerie personal precision, the father had his own brand of intimidation, and Luke…
Luke had always been able to sense Han’s vulnerabilities. Even when it wasn’t obvious that was what he was doing, it was present enough that the kid seemingly maintained a solid connection with him no matter what. Now that Han knew just what Luke’s connections and abilities were, he couldn’t help but feel just a touch more wary of him. He’d never much believed in the Force, nor did he really know what it did, and he didn’t quite trust it.
But… he did trust Luke.
He knew just how gentle the kid could be. Despite the insecurities they both felt, despite knowing what seemed to eat at him the most… Han held faith in Luke. It made him uncertain. Han was unaccustomed to uncertainty like this. But even though he was entirely unsure what the future held, he knew he had faith. A faith he hadn’t come close to holding for years before this, but faith nonetheless. He was not about to abandon that just because he was about to face the Empress, the most powerful woman in the galaxy, and someone who could very well dismiss his existence on a whim.
“Captain.”
The door closed behind him, and Han found himself in another room that seemed overly lavish and luxurious compared to what any being actually needed. He hadn’t really noticed, but they’d moved beyond the guest wing of the Palace. The droid’s escort had been so seamless that he didn’t even realize the route they were taking was unfamiliar and led past paths that had previously been obstructed. He’d been purposely misled to this chamber, and would be escorted back to his own private room so he could not find this one again, he was sure. It instilled a growing sense of unease within him, but Han would not back down. Holding his own against the Empress was all he could do. It even seemed liable to become his greatest achievement ever.
Han was not an Imperial Loyalist. He never had been. He wasn’t a rebel, by any means, just went where the credits were, but most Imperials were fairly stingy with their credits. It was the outlaws who paid the best, and for so long, he’d pledged himself where the fortune laid. But now… well. Was it fortune that drew him to Luke? Or something else? So many could look at his history, look at Luke’s identity, and draw their own conclusions. Han Solo, smuggler, scoundrel, and Imperial Leech.
Luke had never seen that in him, though. And, well, if Luke believed in him…
“I can sense your discomfort.” The Empress’ voice was somehow both cool and warm. She had an inviting air about her, something that begged you to share your every last secret, but she never shed her nobility. Calm, collected, and in control… that was the Empress, and Han wasn’t sure he would ever stand a chance against her in any sort of battle, of the wits or otherwise. And yet, he wasn’t sure that mattered. He would hold his own against her for Luke’s sake. That much felt so certain, no matter what.
“Discomfort, Your Majesty?” Yeah, playing it off seemed like his best bet. What else was he supposed to do? Just admit to the fact that he felt uncomfortable around her? No, that was a weakness he wasn’t about to show off just yet.
It seemed, though, he couldn’t fool her. The Empress wore an expression that seemed far too similar to a predator capturing its prey, though it did not contain the same level of cruelty as one who was about to devour. No, she seemed ready to play with her food before deciding if it should be consumed immediately, or if it was worthy of keeping around for a bit longer.
“You have not shown any signs of comfort since arriving at the Palace, Captain.” Her smile grew, but as it spread, it only became more inscrutable. Han really had no idea whether it carried more welcome or intimidation with it, but he could certainly tell that it carried more. “It is my sincerest hope that you may find some level of ease within our walls. I do not wish you to be on edge for the entire duration of your stay. After all, what kind of hosts would we be if you could find no trust in us whatsoever?”
Han quirked a brow. “I really gotta say, Majesty, it ain’t nothin’ personal. Promise. Your family’s done nothing wrong to me. Got no reason to stand against ya. Plus with Luke around, I’m really not about to do anything stupid like that. But you can’t blame me for being a bit nervous. I ain’t used to dealing with big shots like your family. And I’ve got no interest in kriffin’ things up. Especially not for Luke. Kid’s been through enough. He don’t need me comin’ in to make things even worse. It was his choice to have me here, and if I didn’t think he actually wanted me anywhere near the rest of your family, you better believe I wouldn’t have agreed. Sorry to say it, but my interest in politics is almost negative, so it would take either a huge stack of credits or the word of someone I trust to get me at the Palace at all.”
Did he actually just say all that? In his head it hadn’t sounded that bad. It just sounded like his usual ramblings. But actually saying it out loud…
The Empress clutched a delicate goblet in her gloved hand. It was filled with wine, and she took a long drink out of it before setting it down and smiling at Han. “You know, Captain Solo,” she said as the glass delicately took its place atop a coaster on the end table. Han tried not to stare at the motion, or at her, or anywhere. Things were always awkward around her. "I had my doubts, but I am beginning to see what Luke sees in you. I am glad he has you." Han breathed a sigh of relief. Then the Empress had to add, "Of course, my husband does not share this response."
“Well, Majesty, can’t say I expected him to.” Han hadn’t noticed, but a droid had placed a full tumbler of Correllian Whisky next to him, and he was quick to take a swig of it before he continued. “Can’t say I expected any of you to like me at all, to be honest. Still not sure if that daughter of yours is all that sold on me, either.”
Bright peals of laughter echoed through the chamber. There was genuine joy and amusement in the Empress’ expression, and it was enough to make her seem purely human. It was likely a side of her that only the closest and most intimate of associates would see from someone so regal. He’d seen the holos. The whole galaxy had. She was gentle yet stoic, kind yet solemn, genuine yet guarded… She was what you would expect a beloved Empress to be. But this – this seemed to be who she really was, and an unexpected warmth bloomed in Han’s chest at experiencing it. Maybe… maybe he wasn’t so doomed here, after all, if he’d won over the most powerful woman in the galaxy.
Maybe he’d have a chance at winning over the old man…
“My dear captain, you do understand my children well, I must say.” The light remained in her eyes, and Han could practically feel the tension in his shoulders unwind – though, that could very well be the whisky’s work. “Winning over Leia is no easy feat, but I think you have a better chance than most. She worries for her brother. And I assure you, it isn’t personal.” Clever woman, using his own defense against him. “You took her brother’s attention and caused him to be away from her. She was worried sick and missed her twin. It is not your fault – my son has always been reckless and acts of his own accord – but she resented you before she even knew who you were. Please be patient. Luke adores you. She will come to accept you no matter what. Even if she does not choose to show it.”
Han finished the last of his whisky, grimacing a bit at the thought of the princess. She resembled her mother a fair bit and had been seen in public with the Empress more often than Luke ever had been. The twins didn’t look all that much alike, really, especially when seen separately. While together, though, the similarities shone through. Similar mannerisms, expressions, body language… and they definitely interacted like siblings. Seeing them in this capacity left no doubt in his mind that the twins were, well, twins. But the princess always seemed far more like The Princess than Luke ever did The Prince.
The Empress took another sip from her goblet and her eyes settled on the dark liquid within. “My son has always been more trusting than his sister. He has a gentle heart. I know the dangers he faces because of it. That gentle heart is far too fragile for his own good, and while I know that Luke is strong… well. We all know that Luke is strong. He is not some delicate, withering flower that will crumble to pieces with a strong gust of wind. He is trusting, though, and will offer up that most vulnerable and breakable part of himself far more readily than any of us would prefer.” She paused, emptying the contents of her glass before setting it down and meeting Han’s eyes with a piercing, imperious gaze.
“The unease my family feels around you isn’t personal, Captain Solo. Neither we nor you have any reason for it to be, correct? But our concern stems largely from Luke himself. We know his nature, and when he left Coruscant for such a prolonged period of time, we all worked ourselves into a frenzy of worry about just what harm he might bring upon himself. Physical danger concerns us, of course, our family has guards for a reason, even given our own martial prowess. But Luke’s emotional state, especially when he’d fled searching for freedom… you understand why we would be concerned, yes?”
Han just nodded, wishing he had another glass of whisky.
“My husband may not be swayed just yet. Your status as a smuggler certainly does not help, either.” She really knew how to reassure him when it came to tall, dark and terrifying… “The best way to win him over, however, is to continue as you are. Make Luke happy. That is all we desire for him, first and foremost, and the finer points of status can be discussed at a later date.”
Han met her gaze with gritted determination and nodded sharply. “I will, Your Majesty. Swear on the Falcon. I will not let the kid down.”
“Good,” she replied, humour in her voice while intensity remained in her gaze. “See that you don’t. Farewell, Captain Solo. Until next time.”

First Line Tag Meme
@sonderwalker Thank you so much for the tag!!
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 authors!
I’m gonna skip any stories (like The Price) that I wrote collaboratively, since the first line might not be mine, so in that case the last 20 posted or updated are:
1. Deathmark
Bright, bright sunlight pierced the darkness behind his eyelids and he sat up with a groan, every muscle in his body aching like a battered anvil.
2. Sparks
The holo Vader was currently studying was the one that would kick off the fiasco that was the turning point of his career in the Imperial Navy, and indeed the Empire at large. But he didn't know that. All he knew was that he recognised the item it was of—as well as who held it.
3. Desperate Dealings
His side was in agony, his legs shaking, but he dragged himself forwards, branch by bloodied branch, and tried not to vomit.
4. High Stakes
The industrial planet of Gorse glittered beneath them: one half blinding and molten, the other as dark as the depths of space, studded with lights. Its moon, Cynda, shone like a jewel beside it, large and luminous.
5. Family Resemblance
Luke took a deep breath and tried to calm his breathing. Fett hadn't been there. Fett hadn't stopped by this part of the planet after all, and they'd risked everything to come to Arkanis for no reason.
6. Prince In Darkness
"Senator Organa," Palpatine greeted from the command deck of his fancy toy. Luke didn't reply—just gritted his teeth and kept his head held high, even as Vader's grip tightened on his shoulders. "So kind of you to join us on board our newest achievement."
7. Genetics, Fate and the Choices That We Make
No.
(My favourite first line so far 😆)
8. Thirty of a Hundred Souls
The waves broke against the side of the dying ship and Luke grunted as he clambered up her side, shaking from the cold. He was soaked to the bone, his hair plastered to his forehead, eyes stinging, but he gripped the edge like a vice, the wood slick and splintering under his hands, and hauled himself on board.
9. Luminous
Venaira was a strange world.
10. The Heir
The death of an emperor was a momentous thing, and it had taken years of planning to reach this moment. It was one of the rare few days that the Coruscanti Weather Control let a storm ravage Imperial City and the lightning that forked outside matched the violet sheets inside the throne room, whose tall windows cast light onto—
11. Smokescreen
The transport Obi-Wan was taking from Nar Shaddaa to Tatooine was meant to be fast, meant to be full of scum wanting to avoid notice. Obi-Wan had thought that he and Luke would be safe there, in the depths of villainy—at least, safe from him.
12. In Loving Memory
“I have no memory of my mother,” Luke said to Vader’s half-conscious body. The Death Star exploded behind them and he watched the fire shatter against the Imperial ships which hadn’t yet escaped. “I— my sister, when I was speaking to her, did. She remembers her. But I never did. I don’t know her name, I don’t know her face.”
13. Triplecross
“You,” his partner told him, “are an excellent dancer.”
14. Aftermath of the Assassination
“Father,” Luke called.
15. Flowers in the Mist
It was a simple, if dangerous task—so dangerous that they felt it was safe. After all, no one would expect a Rebel as infamous as Luke Skywalker to go to the Emperor’s homeworld, and certainly not alone.
16. Reckless Abandon
The Rebel base on Orto Plutonia had been sending out a distress signal for days now, so inevitably, when Luke Skywalker flew past it, he had to go and investigate.
17. Clinging to the Warmth of the Spark
“Luke?” Vader murmured—or, tried to. His vocoder boomed everything. “You should not be awake.”
18. Stained Glass Shatters
The words were a mantra as Luke backed away.
19. Again
Father? Luke's alarm was a spike in the Force; Vader could feel it intimately from where he was standing on the bridge of the Death Star. Father, what's going on?
20. White Flags Stained Red
Luke smoothed his hands over the front of his tunic and did up the buttons carefully, before slipping on his gloves and fastening his cape around his shoulders. He took a deep breath, glanced at himself in the mirror… then turned away, the cape swirling against his calves.
Any patterns?
I guess there’s a few patterns—I like starting in media res, where the scene is already moving and we’re just trying to catch up, like in The Heir, Thirty of a Hundred Souls, Prince in Darkness, etc. Another way I try to just get the fic started is with dialogue, introducing character voices and such; if I start something with dialogue, it’s because I couldn’t think of another snappy way to start it, lol. And also sometimes I’ll zoom in and introduce the story, usually for longer fics (e.g., The Heir could also be an example of this, Luminous is an example, High Stakes...) before getting into detail with the characters and action.
Picking a favourite is harder! I like the writing in The Heir, Luminous and Triplecross, but my fave is probably Sparks. It gets to the heart of the matter quickly while still having a nice tone and being vaguely mysterious 😆
Thanks again for the tag, this was fun!! I’m tagging (no pressure, of course) @silvereddaye @ladyvader23 @kittandchips @planningconquest @mokulule and @sunshinechildskywalker!

A long time ago, on a radio far, far away...
May the Fourth Be With You!
It's one of the biggest Star Wars days in recent memory, with the success of The Mandalorian and the promise of even more stories from the galaxy on Disney Plus. When this date rolls around each year, I fire up my 4Ks (formerly Blu-rays, formerly DVDs, formerly multiple incarnations on VHS) and I revisit the Star Wars Radio Dramas.
Yes. Star Wars on the radio. As a kid who was both discovering the world of old time radio and a rabid Star Wars fan, these shows were like manna from heaven when I first heard them in 1995. I first learned of them in a retrospective article in the glossy quarterly magazine published by the Lucasfilm Fan Club (I was a card carrying member ), and when they appeared in a catalog close to my birthday, it was the only thing I wanted. My parents got me cassette collections of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, and I couldn’t tell you how many times I ran through those combined 23 episodes through middle and high school.
The radio adaptation of Star Wars aired in between the theatrical releases of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Coming to the airwaves at a time when American radio drama was all but extinct, this joint production of NPR and the BBC dramatized the first film in the Star Wars trilogy as a thirteen-part series. Not only did it feature several cast members recreating their roles - Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO - but it also featured the classic sounds of the film (Chewbaca’s roar, R2-D2′s blips and beeps, the hum of TIE Fighters streaking through space) and John Williams’ fantastic score.
Science fiction author Brian Daley expanded upon the film script - the plot of the movie proper doesn’t kick in until Episode 3 of the radio series. Episode 1 focuses on Luke Skywalker’s life on Tatooine as he watches the stars and dreams of life beyond the farm. Years before scenes were added in the Star Wars Special Edition, Brian Daley added scenes between Luke and his best friend Biggs Darklighter, an Imperial cadet who confides in Luke that he intends to join the rebellion against the Empire. These early scenes give their reunion later in the story more weight as they take part in the mission to destroy the Death Star.
Episode 2 is all about Princess Leia. It establishes her espionage bona fides before she ever comes into possession of the plans for the Death Star. She uses an Imperial officer’s leering advances to her advantage and gets him to reveal the secrets of the Empire’s ultimate weapon.
It isn’t just Luke and Leia who get additional shading. In another move that preceded the Special Edition, Daley adds a scene with Han Solo and a Tatooine mob boss in the hangar of the Millennium Falcon. It isn’t Jabba the Hutt but it plays almost exactly the same - and frankly, it plays better than the scene with a young Harrison Ford and a crudely rendered Jabba. Daley wrote three Han Solo novels, and he plugged in perfectly to the seedier side of the galaxy far, far away.
It’s scenes like these that give the new actors a chance to put their own spin on the characters, an easier task when they don’t have to say the iconic lines of the film. Ann Sachs does a great job as Leia, and Perry King is charmingly roguish as Han Solo. And in a particularly inspired bit of casting, Brock Peters - miles from Tom Robinson - plays the dastardly Darth Vader.
The Empire Strikes Back followed two years later with the whole cast returning plus Billy Dee Williams recreating his screen role of Lando Calrissian and John Lithgow taking the role of Yoda. He’s terrific - Lithgow doesn’t do a straight impression of Frank Oz, but he captures the character and injects him with additional shading.
There’s less original material here - perhaps a testament to the wonderful screenplay penned by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan? - but Brian Daley adds a nice prologue that finds a Rebel convoy cut to shreds by a TIE Fighter ambush. It helps to set the scene for the darker second act of the trilogy. The ten-part series is wonderful, and while some additional “new” scenes might have been nice to include, you really can’t go wrong with the story presented.
Plans for a Return of the Jedi radio drama fell through and the final chapter wasn’t released until 1996, and even then it was produced by Highbridge Audio and not broadcast on NPR. This may adhere the closest to the film story, save for a nice scene where Luke Skywalker constructs his new lightsaber. Most of the cast is back, but Mark Hamill was sadly absent (though he was enjoying a second career as a voice actor - the farm boy from Tatooine was the Clown Prince of Crime in Batman: The Animated Series). Joshua Fardon does a fine job as Luke, but it would have been a treat to hear Hamill revisit his iconic role thirteen years later. John Lithgow comes back as Yoda, and Ed Asner growls his way through a performance as Jabba the Hutt.
This six-part show suffers a bit in comparison to the first two chapters (as does the movie itself), but it’s still engrossing entertainment with all of the music and magic of Star Wars.
I’ve been revisiting the series and it’s as much fun as it was when I first heard it as a kid. The entire trilogy is available in a great CD collection from Higbridge Audio. If you’re a fan of audio drama and/or a Star Wars fan, or if you are looking for a gateway to introduce someone to radio theater, check these shows out and take a trip to a galaxy far, far away.
Check out this episode!
