LM Montgomery gang I just spent an hour and a half reviewing every single cover edition of Rainbow Valley I could find — the wiki has about eighty in various languages — and I have come to the firm conclusion that not a single one is canonically accurate at all for the RV-era group. Some of my basic observations were that the girls were all just generally interchangeable for each other (never knew if it was Nan or Faith) & Jerry never seemed to exist & disproportionate amounts of Rilla and Shirley who were barely in the book & since I was going mainly off hair color it was kind of a train wreck in general, I think. Also there were a strange number of blonde girls and only one was white-blonde enough to be Mary Vance so where did they all even come from?? Of course the majority are all Blythe children (and Anne sometimes) because this is Anne’s series but it made me laugh given RV is also partially the Merediths’ story. And some of them simply make absolutely no sense (looking at the Ukrainian one in particular). Then there’s that one super vintage edition where it’s just a singular blonde girl — why??

I feel like the most apt descriptor for most of the covers is “up to interpretation.”

(Also noticed the Slovakian edition is called Anne of Glen St. Mary instead of RV — ~interesting~.)

I'll never find the right guy for me because I'd need him to watch Swiss Army Man and not only appreciate it on an artistic level but to love me in the same way Hank and Manny love each others. Without shame, without fear, in a way that's gross and absurd and stinks and it's existential and boundless. I feel that's the only way I could be happy loving someone and being loved. I don't really understand relationships, but I understood that movie, I think, and it stuck with me ever since I watched it. I need someone to understand that shame truly keeps us from love, and not just shame of our little imperfections, but shame everything that's flesh and blood and rots and stinks like shit and feels like shit, it's putrid and it's that one part of the human experience books and movies leave out because it's useless and it isn't nice to tell, that we never think about because it makes us gag, like taking out the trash. After watching that movie, I feel that's the only love I can truly understand. I want something that stinks. I want to be someone's sack of shit.

This is just a guess but I feel like the reason they removed '^2' from beyond canon's title is so it's not seen as an official continuation/sequel to homestuck, which- im ngl I feel like doing that in the first place would have made the discourse a lot less toxic

They could have just positioned it as an exploration of beyond the canon of homestuck proper (which it looks like this new team is doing), something like paradox space - but instead, they basically went 'yeah all these controversial decisions and butchered characters? Yeah they're the official follow up to homestuck' which absolutely didn't help

this is always funny bc i just use the regular hard airbrush in procreate. like the most basic of the basic airbrushes yep that’s the one 😭

for lineart i just keep the sketch and erase/redraw parts with different line thicknesses and weights using that. same brush 💀 there might be a brush that does it better but idk i like the feeling of being able to control the lineweight instead of thickness relying on pressure

#ask koko #i’ve also tried the jingsketch basics square/rectangle brushes and they are very nice!! but they are very flowy and i prefer to make lines #sharper and blockier so they don’t fit well with my style. but they are very nice overall if that is your preference i highly recommend!! : #btw i also use that airbrush for everything ngl. like apart from flat colors with a textured brush it does. everything else #tldr we stan procreate default hard airbrushes fr 😔✊✊

actually episodes 1-2 of tlovm are a very loose adaptation of some of the pre-stream content (since they didn't start streaming until several years into the actual campaign)! they've got a summary video for all of the pre-stream stuff called the story of vox machina which has some really pretty illustrations. there's also "vox machina: origins" which is an ongoing series of comics adapting pre-stream vox machina. the briarwoods arc (tlovm season 1) corresponds to campaign episodes 24-36. they get the invitation to the feast with the briarwoods at the end of 23 though and it's all set up in 14 iirc. i'm not entirely sure of tlovm season 2 content since i actually only just started on campaign chroma conclave, but according to the wiki that whole arc would be episodes 39-83. although tlovm definitely hasn't gotten to campaign episode 69. so i think they're only halfway through that. the children yearn for season 3

i'm realizing through this book i'm reading (same-sex affairs: constructing and controlling homosexuality in the pacific northwest) that like... yknow the conflation between homosexuality and pedophilia. well i've realized why that is, and that it's more than just all "sexual perversions" getting lumped together by homophobes. but also insanely enough more mundane

it's literally that for many decades, the only concept most people were able to have of gay men were through the lens of it being a crime. aka arrest records and the newspapers telling you who got put in jail last night. obviously gay men who were only having consensual sex with other gay adult men did get caught sometimes, but you could only catch them if they were doing it in public, if you were sneaking around in their private home, or if someone involved ratted them out. and if you ratted someone out, whatever motivation you might have, you were also ratting yourself out, so why would you do that? but if you were underage, especially if it was non-consensual, you wouldn't be in trouble at all. so of course the majority of the "immoral acts" charges are going to be between an adult and a minor.

not only that but apparently "youth" in referring to a young person used to literally mean anyone under the age of 21. and the vast majority of charges that read "engaged in immoral acts with a youth" it's referring to like a 17 y/o or even 18 or 19. so then ppl in later decades read that and misinterpreted it too.

and that's literally it lol..... it feels obvious in hindsight but i never would have thought about it. crazy what bias confirmation does.

#i'd highly recommend the book and also Gay New York btw #they're both centered around the same time period and the emergence of gay culture #(and emergence of the widespread concept of gay as something you can BE instead of just something you do-- #--specifically one of the many degenerate things done by lower classes and immigrants #prior to the white middle class becoming aware that their own could do it too. and what that meant for concepts of gender and sexuality) #just different parts of the US. but the pacific northwest one centers mostly on the aftermath of a specific scandal #and it's CRAZY #a lot of modern gay culture would probably be different if not for the actions of like one gay kid #who ratted out portland's whole secret gay community in 1912 bc he got caught shoplifting and thought that info would protect him #i wish i could ask him now if that was worth it. god #anyway i do also think that as for actual cases of gay adult-minor relations. the criminalization of homosexuality in the first place #is partially to blame. like at least for some of it #bc surely part of the motivation there is specifically seeking out boys who do NOT have the social power to be homophobic to you #ntm homophobia in general giving men an idea of needing to be the masculine one. and youth is automatically more 'feminine' #not an excuse just an explanation btw. yeah just my 2 cents #ok to rb
