F1 teams angered by FIAs surprise announcement of 24-race calendar
Formula One teams were left angry and frustrated when taken by surprise at the FIA’s announcement of the sport’s calendar for 2023. The governing body’s unexpected release of the new schedule took place without warning and without the teams’ approval of a triple-header for next season, ramping up the increasingly fractious relationship at the heart of the sport. The 24-race schedule was declared on Tuesday without the usual collaboration with F1 itself, the sport’s commercial rights holder. Sources within the sport believe it has only compounded the sense of fatigue and disconnect the teams feel with the FIA which became clear after the Italian Grand Prix. One team member said the FIA’s attitude was “unacceptable”. The new calendar had been expected on Friday. However after a meeting of the world motor sport council on Tuesday the FIA unilaterally released it. It features a record number of races in a season that opens in Bahrain on 5 March and concludes in Abu Dhabi on 26 November. The lack of notice was not the only problem felt within the sport. The inclusion of a fly-away triple header of USA, Mexico and Brazil, requires the approval of the teams. It is expected they would accept the proposal, as they have in the past, but there was exasperation that the FIA failed to consult them. F1 officials were also surprised by the announcement, a state of affairs that is unlikely to improve the already testing relationship between the sport’s owners and its governing body. The sport was given no chance to separately publicise the new deal they had done with the Monaco GP until 2025 or the confirmation of the date of the new Las Vegas GP. Instead they had to swiftly issue press releases confirming them in the wake of the calendar. After the Italian GP, the FIA and its president, Mohammed ben Sulayem, took considerable criticism over their slow issuing of the grid after qualifying and then the use of the safety car at the end of the race. The governing body has insisted it retains a good working relationship with the teams but an already fraught atmosphere has now only been intensified as the teams consider the longest, most gruelling season in the sport’s history. via Formula One | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/sport/formulaone

no but Dan is just so- ugh. he comes into the third race of a triple header, after an awful race the week before, he eats his favourite pizza, he's talking italian, he has an incredible friday, puts his car just barely behind p3 and p4, he's laughing, he's smiling, he's a bit frustrated, he's hungry for more. he puts his car on the front row on saturday, he's joking around, still laughing, saying he's gonna win this. he's talking more italian in his interviews. he makes an incredible start, he keeps the lead the whole race, he wins the italian grand prix, he's yelling, he's standing on top of his car, punching his chest, he's hugging everyone, he's crying at the national anthem, he's drinking sparkling wine from a shoe, his smile is powering all of italy at this point, he's running around in his white socks, refusing any shoes. he's sitting in the press conference, still in his socks, he's laughing, he's talking about what this means to him. he's serious, he's talking about how important it is to back yourself. always. he leaves the track late, it's dark already, he's still taking pictures, he wakes up in the morning, he's still floating. fuck....
I adore this man

Sergio Perez's Ferrari 056 Formula 1 Exhaust – A Sculpture by Mike O'Connor
Sergio Perez's Ferrari 056 Formula 1 Exhaust – A Sculpture by Mike O'Connor #f1 #formula1 #sergioperez #ferrari #tifosi #sauber #racecar #exhaust #headers #engineering #art #sculpture
This unusual, almost alien-looking, sculpture is the work of Mike O’Connor. It started life In Maranello, Italy where it was manufactured by Ferrari as part of the Ferrari 056 engine that was used by both Scuderia Ferrari and Sauber (as an engine customer). This particular exhaust was used by Sergio Perez in Monza at the 2011 Italian Grand Prix. Monza is famous for being a high-speed circuit so…

BREAKING: Ricciardo to be replaced by Lawson for remainder of Dutch GP weekend after breaking hand
Daniel Ricciardo has been ruled out of the Dutch Grand Prix due to a broken hand sustained in a crash during Friday practice, handing Liam Lawson his F1 debut with AlphaTauri in the process. Ricciardo followed Oscar Piastri – the man who replaced him at McLaren for the 2023 season – into the barriers at Zandvoort’s Turn 3 in the early stages of FP2, putting him out of the session on the spot. FP2: Norris leads Verstappen during second practice at Zandvoort after Piastri and Ricciardo crash out Replays later showed Ricciardo’s hands being thrown around in the cockpit due to him still holding the steering wheel when he impacted the wall, with the Australian visibly in discomfort when he stepped out of the car. Having been taken to the medical centre and then a local hospital, news has now come from AlphaTauri that Ricciardo broke a metacarpal on his left hand, and will not be able to take part in what would have been the third race since his F1 comeback with Red Bull’s sister outfit. Please update your cookie preferences 2023 Dutch GP FP2: Bizarre moment as both Piastri and Ricciardo end up in the wall at Turn 3 In his place steps Lawson, the 21-year-old reserve driver for Red Bull and AlphaTauri who has been competing in the Japan-based Super Formula championship this year. Lawson sits second in the Super Formula standings ahead of October’s season finale double header at Suzuka, with the break in the calendar leaving him free to substitute for Ricciardo. READ MORE: Verstappen says Red Bull still have things to ‘improve’ despite ‘pretty good’ first day in Zandvoort He is set to become the 10th New Zealander to contest a Grand Prix and the most recent since Brendon Hartley raced for Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) in 2017 and 2018. Last year, Lawson made his F1 weekend debut with AlphaTauri during FP1 for the Belgian Grand Prix, before a second appearance for the team in Mexico and then an outing with Red Bull in Abu Dhabi. Ricciardo visited the medical centre and was then taken to hospital, where his broken wrist was confirmed Ricciardo is the second F1 driver to suffer from a breakage in 2023, after Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll sustained a broken wrist during a training crash in the days leading up to pre-season testing. Stroll broke his wrist on Saturday, February 18, five days before testing began, with the Canadian getting back in the car on Friday March 3 and then racing on Sunday March 5 – just a fortnight later. NEED TO KNOW: The most important facts, stats and trivia ahead of the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix With the Italian Grand Prix directly following this weekend’s round at Zandvoort, it also casts doubt over Ricciardo’s ability to contest the Monza event. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Ferrari said they would be introducing an updated hybrid system in Sochi, mainly to gain experience with it for the 2022 car project. A spokesperson for the team said… "A great deal of effort has gone into this... both technically and logistically... and so as to be able to use it as soon as possible, its introduction will be staggered between the drivers. "Charles will be the first to have the new hybrid system.  “This decision is a precautionary measure relating to the potential risk of using the battery pack damaged in his Hungarian GP accident. "In Sochi, Leclerc will have a brand new power unit and will therefore start from the back of the grid." Speaking of engines, Honda has revealed they have released their final major upgrade to their engine for the season, as the team looks to beat Mercedes to the 2021 Constructor’s Championship. Honda's final season in Formula 1 has seen them bring forward their 2022 engine by a year in a bid to help Red Bull win a first championship title since 2013. Yasuaki Asaki, Honda F1's head of Power Unit development, explained: "This new E.S has been developed in a project that has taken several years, with an aim to combine improvements in energy efficiency, with significant reductions in weight. "In what will be the company’s final season in the sport, Honda F1 has managed to introduce the new E.S – fitted with a lighter, low-resistance, highly efficient and ultra-high power battery cell – just in time for the start of the second half of the season. "In order to achieve the ultimate goal of defeating Mercedes and winning the championship before leaving F1 at the end of the 2021 season, we recognised the need to enhance performance. “As such, the development plan for the new E.S was brought forward substantially from the original goal of 2022, to introduction during the 2021 season." Moving on to McLaren ace Daniel Ricciardo, the Monza winner was thrilled to get his first win in three years as he led the team to a 1-2 finish in Italy. However, the affable Aussie insists he has turned the page and has his sights set firmly on further success in Russia. Speaking ahead of the Sochi weekend, Ricciardo said “A week on from Monza, it still feels good thinking about being back on that top step of the podium. “We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to end a triple-header. “I loved competing at the front of the grid and having the chance to fight for the win. “The one-two finish is a product of hard work throughout the team and from myself. “Since the start of my journey with McLaren I’ve been working through the challenges that come with adapting to a new car, but the team has been really supportive throughout. "It’s great to have a result that completes that picture, and to have the team back in the winner’s circle has been a ride and I’ve only been a part of it for six months. “It’s been the boost we all needed. “I’ve definitely taken time to enjoy the moment but now it’s time to focus on Russia. “I want to build on my Monza performance this weekend and will be pushing to score important points to keep up the fight with our competitors. “Sochi can be a tricky circuit to make a move, so it’s important to make the most of qualifying to give us the best chance for points come Sunday!” #F1NewsToday #F1NewsNow #F1NewsLatest by Formula 1 Grid Talk

Rossi tests positive for COVID-19, to miss Aragon MotoGP | Racing News

Rossi tests positive for COVID-19, to miss Aragon MotoGP | Racing News
Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss this weekend’s Aragon MotoGP. Rossi, who travelled back to his to his home in Tavullia, Italy after last weekend’s French Grand Prix, confirmed on Thursday he woke up with slight fever and underwent two tests for COVID-19. “The ‘quick PCR test‘ result was negative, just like the test I underwent on Tuesday. But the second one, of which the result was sent to me this afternoon, was unfortunately positive, Rossi, 41, said on Twitter.

“I’m so disappointed that I will have to miss the race at Aragon.” The Italian becomes the first MotoGP rider to test positive for the coronavirus, although paddock members have previously tested positive for COVID-19. Moto2 rider Jorge Martin was also forced to sit out of last month’s Misano double-header after testing positive for the virus. Yamaha confirmed Rossi followed all the health and safety protocols throughout the week and will now self-isolate, with his medical condition closely monitored by the team’s medical staff. Rossi, 13th in the championship standings with 58 points, said he is unlikely to return for the second round at Aragon on Oct. 25. “I’d like to be optimistic and confident, but I expect the second round in Aragon to be a ‘no go’ for me as well,” he said. “I will now follow the medical advice, and I just hope I will be feeling well soon.” Rossi has failed to finish in each of the last three races, crashing out on the opening lap of last weekend’s French Grand Prix. Yamaha have made no mention of fielding a replacement for the upcoming races but this could open door for test rider Jorge Lorenzo, a three-times world champion, to make a return this season.

Formula 1 confirms first eight races for 2020 season – Austria double header to kick things off from July 5
Formula 1 is finally set to return in July after several races have either been postponed or cancelled due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. According to F1 chairman and CEO Chase Carey, the 2020 season will kick off with the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring on July 5, followed later by a second race at the same track a week later (July 12).
These are part of eight races that have been announced so far, all of which will be held at European race tracks. Following the double header in Austria, there’s the Hungarian Grand Prix (July 19), British Grand Prix (August 2), 70th Anniversary Grand Prix (August 9), Spanish Grand Prix (August 16), Belgian Grand Prix (30 August) and Italian Grand Prix (September 6).
All races will be supported Formula 2 and Formula 3, and a wider calendar is still being finalised before being published in the coming weeks. The aim is to have a total of 15 to 18 races before completing the season in December.
“In the past weeks we have been working tirelessly with all our partners, the FIA and the teams to create a revised opening 2020 calendar allowing us to restart racing in the safest possible way. We are pleased to be able to set out our opening eight race calendar today and look forward to publishing our full calendar in the coming weeks,” said Carey.
“I want to thank every promoter and partner for their support and ongoing commitment to Formula 1. While we currently expect the season to commence without fans at our races we hope that over the coming months the situation will allow us to welcome them back once it is safe to do, but we know the return of Formula 1 will be a welcome boost to sports fans around the world,” he added.
Carey also said, “an individual having been found with a positive infection will not lead to a cancellation of a race. We encourage teams to have procedures in place so if an individual has to be put in quarantine, we have the ability to quarantine them at a hotel and to replace that individual.”
