“I'm sorry if I made everything weird between you and her.” Y/N started, remembering the way Elain tried to stop him from going with her.
“She confuses me.” Lucien sighed, sipping on the liquor she had found hidden in a cabinet. “She’s with him, but whenever she sees me trying to move on, she finally remembers she’s my mate and acts with jealousy towards me.”
“Love sucks.” She let out a humourless laugh.
“After everything with Jessminda, I just wish to be happy.” Sadness overtook his features, he had shared about his past lover that day at the city, and Y/N felt her heart crack a bit.
“You will be.” She promised him.
Y/N woke up that day on her bed, her talk with Lucien still fresh in her mind, and as she jumped out of the bed, showered and got dressed, she knew what she would do that day.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
Meraxes landed near the garden, on an empty part of the house Rhys and Feyre lived, she already had to talk to them, talking to Elain in the process was going to be perfect.
She strolled towards the hallways, the sound of her boots echoing around the house as she reached the office Rhysand had indicated to them last night as they got back from Hewn City.
She knocked, waiting for them to allow her in. Feyre opened the door with a gentle smile, welcoming her in. The office had dark wooden furniture and grey walls, a portrait of Feyre sat beautifully behind the desk, like she was the force that guided Rhysand even when she wasn’t there in person.
“Good morning.” He said, cradling his sleeping son against his chest.
“Good morning! Thank you for receiving me.” She cleared her throat. “I’m here to ask for permission to leave with Lucien and explore Koschei’s home.” The two shared a look like they were talking in each other’s mind. Like Maeve did.
“You are free in this court, but we appreciate your consideration.” Feyre spoke, hands cupping his shoulders. “We’re going to ask for Azriel to join you two, we also need to deal with Koschei and he can share what he already knows with you.”
Being stuck with Azriel and Lucien, when the two couldn’t stand being in the same room with each other for more than 5 minutes? Great, just fucking great.
“Do you think this will help?” Rhys inquired, his violet eyes piercing her into her seat.
“I’m willing to try anything at this point.” She shifted on her seat, her scar throbbing with anxiety.
“Mor found this.” He handed her a book, covered in a dark leathery material, looking like a diary. “She looked around her father’s office and this was the only thing that made sense.”
Y/N grabbed the book, flipping through the pages, drawings and an ancient alphabet she knew very well, Wyrd marks. She closed the book quickly, wanting to read it just as fast.
“This is going to be very useful.” She smiled at them. “May I take it with me during the trip?” Feyre nodded.
“Please do.” She waved her hand and Y/N shoved the diary in between her leathers. She groaned as she saw the state of her clothes that morning, the ripped fabric making her angry.
“We also will have some incursions of our own. Nesta and Cassian fly today to the war camps to see what they can discover . You may want to find her, she wants you to join them.” Rhys announced. “We’re in touch with the other High Lords, Koschei is a threat we all have in common, so it gives us the perfect excuse to roam around their libraries. Except Autumn of course.”
“Lucien asked his brother for help.” She blurted. “Eris says he will try his best.” Rhysand and Feyre shared a surprised look.
“Well, that is nice of him. Thank you.” Feyre spoke.
“Thank you for all your efforts.” She thanked them, getting up. “I need to get going so I can do everything that I need to do before travelling.” Feyre nodded.
“Of course, go ahead. But just be careful.” The female begged and Y/N nodded.
“I’ll try my best.” She said with a confident gleam in her eyes, exiting the office.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
She leaned in the doorway, Elain was kneeled on the ground, hands digging in the soil as she planted another pink flower in that already full and beautiful garden.
Elain stiffed, the black wyvern approaching the garden, its huge snot bumping against her perfect flowers, Meraxes sniffled, sitting on its back paws as his head rolled to the sides, happily appreciating the smell.
“Oh, do you like flowers?” She asked, looking curiously at the creature, Meraxes took a deep breath and his big grin appeared in approval.
“He does.” Y/N replied from behind her, prompting Elain to quickly whip her head in her direction, hurt and sadness filled her brown eyes as she made eye contact with her.
“What do you want? Tell me how wonderful your night with Lucien was!?” Elain got up, removing the gloves from her hands and walking towards Y/N, standing in front of her.
“I did have a wonderful night with him.” Elain scoffed but her eyes filled with tears. “Because Lucien is an amazing, caring friend. I came here to tell you that nothing happened yesterday, at least not what you think.”
“You two didn’t sneak out to be alone?” Elain’s breath hitched.
“We did, but I just needed to get away from that crowd, it reminded me of bad times, he was just helping me to get back in control of my emotions.” Elain watched her silently. “Take care of him, please, love him how he deserves to be loved. Lucien has a gentle yet fragile heart, handle with care.”
“I thought about what you told me.” She started. “Azriel and I are no longer together, and now it’s my turn to ask you to love him how he deserves, Azriel has been searching for love for so long, and I wasn’t what he needed, but I have a suspicion that you might be, so please, be careful and patient with him, he deserves it.”
Her words left her astonished for a few minutes, just blinking towards the female like a confused kid. Did Azriel say anything about dreaming about her? Did he feel the same increase in his heartbeat that she did whenever he looked at her? Did he love her like she loved him?
“Thank you Elain. And after everything ends and if I’m still here, would you teach me gardening?” Elain smiled.
“I would love to.” She nodded her head, smiling back at Elain before she headed towards Meraxes, she had to find Nesta.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“You can’t go like this.” Nesta stomped her foot down, looking at the damaged clothing Y/N was wearing. “You would be better in Illyrian leathers, they’re amazing.”
“And where do we get them?” She asked, to which Morrigan happily chimed in.
“In the best shop of all Illyria.” She had a big smile. “My mate’s shop.”
Y/N sat atop Meraxes, Morrigan pressed against her as the two made their way towards Emerie’s shop. Before Y/N met Cassian and Nesta at the camp.
Mor rambled about how she and Emerie met, the bond snapping for them and how they had busy life’s but always made time for each other, and in every opportunity she would fly to be with her lover.
The wyvern waited outside the town, and they walked towards the tiny shop in the middle of the town. Thousands of winged males and females walked there, minding their own business and going on with their lives.
The heavy door scratched against the floor as Mor pushed it open, revealing a well lit inside with clothes hanging around and a leathery smell. Behind the counter the female from that training day stood, her hair was braided and she was reading a book.
“Do you have any leathers available?” Mor said in a slow and sensual tone, Emerie lifted her eyes, her expression going from serious to pure delight as she saw her mate standing in her store.
“For you? I have everything.” She crossed the store in two quick steps, embracing Morrigan and pulling her in for a kiss. “I missed you.”
“Me too baby, me too.” The female turned to Y/N. “Emerie this is Y/N, Y/N this is Emerie.” Y/N shook her extended hand.
“It’s nice to see you again.” She spoke and the female nodded in agreement.
“She’s the female that disarmed Azriel, that I told you about.” She told her mate, who looked at them confused.
“Oh okay.” Morrigan laughed. “Makes sense.”
The blonde then started to talk about how Y/N could use some new clothes and Nesta had sent her there. It took exactly twenty minutes for her to get in full Illyrian attire, very tight on her body but not in a restricting way. And four more pairs ready to take home with her.
She had thanked them, leaving the two alone. Walking towards Meraxes, the clothes felt okay, not that different from what she was used to. She clicked her jaw and exposed her teeth, Godslayer behind her back. She mounted the wyvern and headed towards the camp where she was supposed to meet Nesta.
Devlon kept staring at her with annoyance, he hated having Nesta around, a witch as he claimed she was. The female’s gaze turned to the sky a few times, waiting for the winged shadow that would make them tremble in fear.
With a loud roar, she saw it. The wyvern descending from the skies, his powerful wings carrying the winds in them. Devlon turned to the commotion, cursing loudly as he spotted Meraxes landing and his rider dismounting, sliding down his leg and landing on the ground with ease.
“Who the hell is that?” He demanded to know, turning to the General that didn’t even try to suppress the smirk at the male’s terrified gaze.
“Our guest for today.” He announced. “Welcome to Illyria, Lady Blackbeak.” Y/N bowed her head to Cassian, not even looking at the static male beside him.
“Lord Cassian, thank you for having me. Lady Nesta.” She turned her body to the female.
“What are you?” The male spat, and she turned those deep blue eyes in his direction, her claws scratching her chin as she grinned, the sun shining on the iron, giving the metallic smile a creep touch.
“I’m a witch, what else would I be?” She spoke in a condescending tone, like it was obvious what her true nature was.
“First you bring her.” His crooked finger pointed at Nesta, the female scoffed. “And then another one? You curse our land. You two are going to be our doom.” He pointed to the females, Nesta had walked to Y/N’s side and the two smiled at him sweetly.
“I’m kinda busy to be anyone’s doom.” Nesta sarcastically remarked.
“Oh yeah, me too.” Y/N shrugged. “Maybe next year.” She winked at the male.
Devlon was seething with anger, their mere presence was an affront to them and their traditions, Cassian as an Illyrian should know. But it looked like he and the two females didn’t give a shit about it.
“What do you want?” He sighed deeply.
“Your oldest scriptures.” Cassian spoke and the male rolled his eyes before giving in.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“What is this?” Y/N pointed to the drawing of a monolith, the stone was sculpted with square edges with a slit on top. Like a keyhole.
“This is the monolith atop Ramiel, it’s where you have to reach in order to finish the Blood Rite.” Cassian spoke, giving her a brief introduction of what the Blood Rite was.
“And when you finish it just teleports you back?” She inquired.
“Basically.” He shrugged, not knowing where she wanted to go with it.
“Ramiel, here says it’s a sacred mountain, very powerful.” Both Cassian and Nesta nodded. “Powerful enough to open a gate?”
“What?” Cassian asked and in a second the two stood behind her.
“The Valgs used wyrd keys to travel, they inserted them in wyrd gates to open portals to other worlds. If the drawing is accurate..” She pointed to the marks adorning the monolith. “These are wyrd marks and this..” She pointed to the top part of the monolith, towards the slith. “Is a keyhole for a wyrd key.”
“How do we know that you’re truly correct?” Nesta inquired.
“I would have to see it with my own eyes.” She groaned, if they didn’t wanted her there, there’s no fucking way they would allow her at Ramiel.
“Rhys can show you.” Cassian spoke and she looked at him. “We have to go back to Velaris.”
The three rushed outside, thanking Devlon for the scriptures and Y/N promised to stay away for a while, making the male growl at her. They stood in front of Meraxes.
“You two go, I’ll meet you there.” Cassian urged and they nodded, Y/N climbed towards the saddle and Cassian dropped Nesta behind her, securing both in place, they flew, this could finally be a step towards the right direction.

i need everyone to gather up aaaaall their braincells. i know it might be difficult, but we need to use them right now.
you cannot seriously look at me, and say that rhysand is the same as beron. beron the damn wife beater. beron the man who killed his son's lover because she was lesser fae. beron who tortured his children.
rhysand giving up claire is not the same as beron having jessminda killed. rhysand was relaying information under duress, and beron was being a classist murderer. if you'll recall, rhys also made sure she felt no pain even as she died. the only mercy he could afford to give her.
i get that some of you dislike rhys, but do not try and put him on the same level as beron.

Day 3 - Masks
from @lucienweekofficial 2023 prompt list♡
this one's shorter and angsty. again. hopefully i'll be able to write something less heartbrraking for the rest of the week.
Lucien was not, against all evidence, a forthcoming male. Sure, he'll play whatever part he is assigned. And dutifully too. But behind the mask of the easy-going courtier, sacrastic Emissary, snarky, truthfull friend, there hides a deeply scarred fae.
He would never admit it, even to himself, but Lucien clings to whatever mask he receives. A long time ago, when he was just a kid, he used to simply be. His bright, true self, heart on the sleeves, as all younglings tend to be. However, his own self was never enough. Not to Beron or his council, not to his older brothers pushing him to put that astouning mind to better use, not to Tamlin who wanted a loyal shadow rather than a friend.
So Lucien learned quickly to adorne himself in masks. A sly, cunning fox for the Autumn Court, a pleasant servant to keep around. A strong male who could take the burn of whatever thrown in his way and never complain. Never speak about his pains. Burry them deep, deep, deep.
The cursed mask, despite its purpose, was a small mercy for Lucien Vanserra. He hid his scars so well, for so long, that seeing the criss-cross mess running up and down his side of the face shattered some part of him that not even Lucien was aware of anymore. Behind the fox mask, the scars, the missing eye, were somewhat hidden from sight. His and other's.
Lucien couldn't say if someone ever knew him. Without any mask. Perhaps his mother, once. Jessminda too. His brothers had likely forgotten, Beron never cared. He lost them all. He lost himself. He'll need more masks to cover the shell of a ghost he never met.

I’ve frequently seen the argument that we don’t know how Elain feels about Lucien, but I think this passage gives us a pretty good indication of what she thinks. And he knows it too.
For a long moment, Elain’s face did not shift, but those eyes seemed to focus a bit more. “Lucien,” she said at last, and he clenched his teacup to keep from shuddering at the sound of his name on her mouth. “From my sister’s stories. Her friend.”
“Yes.”
But Elain blinked slowly. “You were in Hybern.”
“Yes.” It was all he could say.
“You betrayed us.”
He wished she’d shoved him out the window behind her. “It – it was a mistake.”
Her eyes went frank and cold. “I was to be married in a few days.”
He fought against the bristling rage, the irrational urge to find the male who’d claimed her and shred him apart. The words were a rasp as he instead said, “I know. I’m sorry.”
She did not love him, want him, need him. Another male’s bride.
A mortal man’s wife. Or she would have been.
(ACOWAR, Chapter 24)
He is partially responsible for arguably the worst day in her life. A day where she was kidnapped by the very beings that terrify her, shoved into the Cauldron first with no guarantee or knowledge of what would happen, her body changed forever in what we learn from Nesta is an excruciating process, dumped practically naked in front of the enemy, claimed by one of the Fae that led to these events, and then suffers from maddening visions that likely make her wonder if she’s going crazy. She has no idea if she’ll ever see her fiancé again, who she loved, or if he’ll even want her. Not to mention her older sister was also kidnapped and turned and her younger sister was ripped away from her mate to go with the Spring Court male who instigated all of this. That’s a lot dropped on this mating bond that she doesn’t even want. Honestly, it doesn’t sound like he wants it either.
[Jessminda] had chosen him. Elain had been…thrown at him.
When Lucien thinks Elain is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen : Betrayal, queasy and oily, slid through his veins. He’d said the same to Jessminda once.
But even as shame washed through him, the words, the sense chanted, Mine. You are mine, and I am yours. Mate. (ACOWAR, Chapter 24)
Again, he doesn’t sound terribly thrilled with this bond either. I believe Elain and Lucien both have very compelling stories that will be told in upcoming books. I think they’ll need to work together considering tensions with the Autumn Court, her visions, and his connections with Vassa (and thus connection to Koschei), but there seems to be too many obstacles and negative feelings to develop into a romantic relationship. If there was any spark of curiosity from them I might consider otherwise, but two books later and both still seem to be uncomfortable with the bond and each other. I just really struggle to see how these two can move past some of these moments, especially when they both seemed to be focused on others. They both seem to want a love that they choose, not one that is assigned to them.

Disclaimer: these are just my thoughts and how I’ve interpreted the characters’ relationships. I like Lucien and only wish for all characters to have a happy ending.
I love a good forced proximity trope, but there’s something about Elain and Lucien’s interactions that don’t appeal to me in the way other forced proximity pairings have. It’s not tension between them, they’re simply uncomfortable with each other and the bond. Lucien seems confused by the thoughts and primal instincts the bond causes, and when he remembers the love he had for Jessminda he seems to feel guilty (or at the very least, conflicted). He comes to Velaris and doesn’t even want to see Elain. But he laughs and enjoys his time with the BoE. Then there’s Elain who’s been perfectly clear that she doesn’t owe Lucien anything. And she doesn’t. She shrinks into herself when he’s around and loses her newfound boldness. And she’s healing and growing perfectly fine without him by her side.
When I think of enjoyable forced proximity storylines I’ve read in recent years I think of Feysand in ACOMAF and Aurip in the Plated Prisoner series. There’s tension, sometimes hate, but it’s obvious that the two people are pushing each other, helping each other heal and grow, all while having a lot of underlying chemistry. I just don’t see that with Elain and Lucien ://

I’m surprised to see that no one has mentioned about Lucien possibly being interested in Gwyn. I was just wondering if you ever suspected a possibly between them? There are reasons what lead me to this: I think the city, Sangravah, was first mentioned by Lucien in ACOWAR, page 250, before Gwyn was introduced in this series. I’m not sure if that is relevant but he admired the rug from Sangravah and thought Rhysand had a good taste. So that makes me wondering if Sangravah is something special to Lucien? Maybe, maybe not. But then, Lucien’s love of his life was killed in front of him just like Gwyn had suffered watching her twin died. And she suffered SA, and in Lucien’s case- close to it with Ithane. They both have similar trauma. Additionally, Jessminda was a lesser fae and Gwyn is 1/4 lesser fae. Gwyn’s personality reminds me of Jessminda the way Lucien described her. Yes, she has a bloodline in Autumn Court and River Nymph in the Spring Court. Lucien is not Beron’s son, only his mother. If I remember correctly, his mother has no brothers, only sisters. So, i highly doubt that Gwyn might be related to Lucien but I could be wrong, of course. What I’m trying to say is I think there is a parallel between them two that I don’t think it’s coincidence. It might even turned out nothing going on between them at all. I was just wondering if there are others here that might see this the same way as I do? By the way, love your posts! :)
lol you know when i originally read acosf last year before reading peoples opinions i thought gwyn and lucien would make a good pair.. but then i started to also wonder if they somehow would be related? i dont think these things anymore but they were my initial thoughts.
i started to read theories on lucien and vassa and they make total sense to me now. but with gwyn i’m a little lost. i like gwyn, but i do wonder who sjm will pair her with, if anyone? i dont think she will have as big as a role in the next book as she did in nesta’s book, but we still have to learn about her power and if she truly is a lightsinger. that’s where i think her story will go. i’m not sure the extent sjm will go making sure every character has a love interest. like if we get elains book next, will her two friends also get love interests? i’m not so sure. then again these are romance books, and i’d love to read all these characters love stories. but i guess it all depends on if sjm signs a new contract to let her publish more ACOTAR books to share more of these side characters stories. also thank you for saying you like my posts 🥰

Look who just woke up- is that JOSHA STRADOWSKI? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s ERIS VANSERRA from ACOTAR. I heard he is 552 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, they still give off a FIRE CURLING INTO A DARK SKY, HIDING BEHIND A CRUEL SMILE, DOING WHAT HE NEEDS TO SURVIVE, PLOTTING FOR HIS FATHER’S THRONE impression. In Sydney, they work as a BARTENDER. They’re known to be quite INTELLIGENT AND AMBITIOUS but have a tendency to be WITHDRAWN AND ARROGANT on their bad days
Gender/Pronouns :
He/Him
How long have they been in Sydney :
He's been in Sydney about six months.
Which suburb do they live in?
He lives in an old family home in Darling Point.
Personality description (in your own words) :
Eris comes across as rather arrogant and charming. He has a smirk ready at all times and will flirt if it's welcomed. He also can be ruthless if threatened, and has a cold edge if he's pushed, but all of that is what he hides behind. Eris is very lonely, and used to only reliant on himself for everything. He's never been able to trust anyone but himself, and been ready to be killed by his brothers or his father if he's shown any weakness. He cares deeply, and is good at heart, but has always had to be extremely careful about showing it.
Memories of their real life :
Eris is the eldest of the High Lord of Autumn, Beron. And that fact is something that he has known and felt the burden of his entire life. His father was a cruel man, and drilled it into him that if he ever expected to one day step into the role he was supposed to have and succeed his father as High Lord, he would have to be the strongest of his family. The best, the cruelest. While his mother was not this way, a strength there he admired even in his youth, but he could not afford to be kind. Not even to his own siblings, as each of them was told that perhaps they too could be High Lord if they proved better than Eris or any of the others. When Lucian came into the picture, Eris knew something was different. Knew Lucian was different, but he was still one of his brothers and kept his distance.
When he was betrothed to Morrigan from the Night Court, Eris was resigned to his marriage, long ago accepting that he'd never get to be with someone he genuinely cared for. He had no idea how badly she didn't want to marry him until he found out that she had slept with one of the Illyrian warriors, and rather publicly. It gave them both an out, and Eris did what he knew he had to, just as publically refusing to marry her now that she'd ruined her honor with some bastard soldier in a camp. What he also didn't relish was finding Morrigan broken and tortured in Autumn lands, with a note nailed to her declaring her his problem. Yet Eris stopped his soldiers from touching her, knowing if they did she would end up bound to the place she had fought so hard never to be. So he left her there, and was silently glad when she ended up somewhere she wanted to be in the Night Court.
The horrors and cruelty continued, Eris managing to stay on top and keep a powerful reputation, but all of that was nearly ruined when Beron found out about Lucian's lover Jessminda. The high Lord brought her in to kill her, and when Beron commanded Eris to help torture and kill the woman Eris said no. He knew the punishment would be brutal, and the imprisonment and torture that followed were horrific. But Eris would not be at all responsible for taking away from Lucian the love Eris himself knew he'd never recieve. And when he was released, it didn't take him long to realize Beron was going to kill Lucian next. Tipping Tamlin off to the fact that Lucian was running to his border was the next easiest choice Eris ever made, glad that Lucian at least had a chance to be free, and to mourn his love in a softer court than their own. What was difficult was discovering that two of his brothers ended up dead in pursuit of Lucian, killed by Tamlin when they crossed the border in their chase. But it was just one more terrible consequence for his choices that Eris had to bear, and he just kept on living, hoping things wouldn't be worse.
And then the war came, and all that followed. Eris tries not to think back on the war at all, nor Under the Mountain. Every moment of it was awful, even if there was an odd unity in trying to survive alongside the rest of the fae. As well as the shock of his life when Beron actually helped give the human who had saved them a second life, Eris not realizing his father was capable of genuine gratitude.
On the other side of that though, Eris realized his chance was coming. A time where he could end his father's reign and become High Lord himself, and do what he could to make the Autumn Court a less fearsome place. A safe place. So Eris made allies, and while he had to move carefully, he could see a future ahead. And when Rhysand and his court actually cut a deal with him, and promised their support, Eris did his best to honor that with trust of his own. More than he'd offered anyone, even if it wasn't complete. He had hope of a brighter future, and Eris just hoped his ambitions didn't end in disaster.
What was their fake life like :
TBD (I just know he's wealthy)
Where does he work?
Eris is a bartender at TBD
Quote:
"I know what sort of creature my father is. I don't need your sympathy."

i love eris vanserra and here is why:
this one goes out to my fellow eris simps @vanserrasvalkyrie, @ladyvanserra, and @nina-zcnik. *raises glass* to feeling seen!
he’s a momma’s boy. he does what he can to protect his mother.
alternatively, he’s an asshole. but not an evil asshole. let me explain.
there is more to him than meets the eye.
re: mor. he repeatedly says “there are other powers at play” regarding that day long ago. so why do we automatically paint him the villain?
and then at the end of acosf, he tells cassian that he is not the person he wants to explain himself to, though cassian says he doubts mor would listen. meaning he wants to explain himself to mor.
re: lucien. he was not there that day with jessminda. on page 274 of acowar, he tells them “It was the first and only time I have denied my father anything.” eris is the reason lucien made it to the spring border, alerting tamlin to get there an ensure lucien’s safety in the spring court.
re: feyre. he was ordered to go after her at the beginning of acowar. he recognized her power, his eyes filling with fear when she announced her status as high lady.
at the high lord’s meeting in acowar, eris was the only member of the autumn court to volunteer to take the antidote for fae bane from the dawn court alchemist.
also at the high lord’s meeting, eris got his brothers in line when they were trying to be intimidating to the others.
and again at the high lord’s meeting, he did taunt mor, sure, but he also apologized.
gosh this high lord’s meeting was great in terms of eris content. when nesta stood up for the humans, eris and his mother were the only ones of the autumn court to be impressed by her stand.
AND WHEN HE WAS LEAVING THE MEETING, it says that feyre could have sworn there was something like sadness and regret when he glanced at lucien.
at the end of acosf, cassian says, “i think you might be a decent male, deep down, trapped in a terrible situation.” and “i grew up surrounded by monsters. i’ve spent my existence fighting them. and i see you, eris. you’re not one of them. not even close.”
for all of his posturing and assholery, eris has never stood against the inner circle. he has his own motives, yes. but in the war against hybern, he made sure his father and brothers came to help. he’s made bargains and deals that seem sketchy, but when you analyze them? he just wants what’s best for his court and will do anything to keep his father from wreaking havoc on innocent people.
in conclusion: eris vanserra is not a bad guy and this blog stans him. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

The whole flirting thing is what we like to a call a retcon. SJM does it a hell of a lot with Tamlin's character and his dynamic with Lucien/the spring court. For example, Tamlin doesn’t enforce rank. We see this. Feyre doesn’t KNOW Tamlin is a high lord until the Suriel tells her, because he and Lucien are chill and Tam doesn’t bother with rank and class. Rhysand twice mocks Tamlin for not having rank. Then comes ACOMAF, and Tamlin is a classist asshole and it’s Rhysan who doesn’t enforce rank.
Hi anon !!
Thanks for reminding me I completely forgot that Feyre didn't even realise Tamlin was a HL until someone else told her!! And then we have Rhysand.."emitting or reverberating power" through every room he walks into. 🙄
And yes, retconning stuff that she has written in the previous books is kind of Sarah's 'thing' ya know. Rhysand was introduced in the first book itself and I mean the first statement that feyre says is "the most beautiful man I had ever seen' or something like that so its clear from the beginning sjm wanted feysand to be end game, but then why not make tamlin the bad guy from the beginning?? He doesn't need to be MR. Perfect for feyre to fall in love with him. It happens so many times irl when you know it's toxic but do it anyway cause you can't stay away.
Tamlin is set up to be the 'one' in the first book and spring feyre's home so it has to be perfect and top notch that's why in acomaf Sarah has to go out if her way to retcon every single good thing about them. She doesn't want anyone say "but in the Spring Court-" It's like no arguments NC is better than SC end of discussion.
It's the same with Lucien's whole character. He stands up to Tamlin in the first book, taunts him even yells at him but in book 2 hes like a scared little kitten. And his back story of Jessminda's death, being chased to be killed by his own brothers and then finding a home and friendship with tamlin in spring is just ignored??!? Probably cause she only wrote that to have Lucien gain some sympathy points. How can people simply ignore their entire history is beyond me. Tamlin and Lucien have been each other's only family for centuries. And i hate the way feyre uses Lucien (who is suffering from SA himself) to get a reaction out of Tamlin. Does no one see how backward and cringy that is ??? Weren't we over the 'gal coming in between two best friends' trope 20 years ago?? It's just so icky. Lucien leaving spring was so pointless. If she was going to retcon Tamlin she might as well had retconned Lucien as well. It's not like he is contributing to the story. He shows up every 15 chp for a page or two that's it.
This retconning is done with every single character. Tell me feyre from Acotar is the same as Acomaf feyre. Look me in the eye and tell me they are the same character. It's so sad. I mean she is the protagonist and yet her whole personality is changed so that rhysie can play the knight in shining armour. The worst thing is retconned feyre from Acomaf isn't even the same as Acosf trophy wife feyre 🤦🏻‍♀️.
Actually the entirety of her beloved IC is different in acosf than they were in the previous books. They are cruel slut shaming narcissists so that the protagonist can again become the victim.
Sarah is just too lazy to actually bother cross-checking the stuff she has written in her previous books. And thats how we get shitty characters, unstable world building and lots of smelly smut!! ☺️

There are several times when Lucien tells Feyre that he didn’t want to kick a male already down, referring to Tamlin, always making excuses for him. What do you think that says about his character? Do you think if Feyre and Lucien were stuck in the spring court and Tamlin hit her, do you think he’d step in?
Im not sure. Like when Jessminda was killed, he was forced to watch, and then fled. He killed his brother but he still fled and even went back to the AC as Tamlin’s emissary. He never took them down when he had a chance.
When Elain was killed, sure he yelled at Hybern but he still got right back in line. He might have gone and gotten Vassa and Mr. Archeron but as Elain’s mate, shouldn’t he have felt her being taken by the cauldron? He never showed up. What he felt fear but didn’t show up? He can winnow. You’d think he do it. So I guess I’m asking what’s your character assessment of Lucien?
I think Lucien is a man for himself. It's not exactly a bad thing, considering his history, but I think that at most he is most loyal to Tamlin. I think he is grateful to Tamlin and I think they were genuine friends. I think he felt at home in Spring, up to a certain degree-at least he was friends with Tamlin and Andras and all the sentries. He had autonomy, he had influence, he for once, lived the life he wanted to live.
Beyond that, I don't think he has loyalty or real affection towards anyone.
I think Feyre crossed his path, and they were friendly, and perhaps he was appreciative of what she'd done for Tamlin, for Prythian. Again, would he choose Feyre over Tamlin? No. If he could've stayed behind in Spring, I believe he would've. If Elain--his mate--wasn't at Night Court, I think he would've stayed and escaped somehow and went back to Tamlin. Once it became clear that Elain had no interest in him, he left and went back to the 2 people who (like Tamlin) accepted him and became his friends (and maybe more).
I think it's interesting that he ended up with Jurian and Vassa. I find the 3 of them to be the most ambivalent characters in ACOTAR. They don't have loyalty to anyone really, they have their own agenda, and they live outside the constraints of human and Fae society.
To me, it makes them interesting. We don't know what to expect from them, what they ultimately want, what the endgame is.

I don’t see it as a romance, but I think Eris would be very protective of Elain. Like how Cassian and Azriel are for Feyre, I think Eris would be the brooding older brother for Elain that would always scare people away from her, especially if she visits the Autumn Court because people are mean there and he loves how sweet Elain is, like his mom, and he can’t stand anyone treating her poorly. And after everything with Jessminda, he vows to keep this woman safe for Lucien’s sake, in a way to make up for how he failed him the first time.
Damn I do be simping for Eris now too.

Rainwater
When Elain agreed to move in with the Band of Exiles to help break Vassa’s curse, she did so with the understanding that Lucien’s heart belonged to someone else. But the more time she spends with him, the less comfort that brings her.
Tumblr media
Elain hummed happily as she and Lucien leaned over a freshly-baked cherry pie in the kitchen of the old manor they shared with the Band of Exiles. She had gone to the market earlier to purchase supplies, but as she baked for the four of them to share, Jurian and Vassa had downed an entire bottle of wine, gotten into an argument, and mysteriously “disappeared” for the rest of the night. When Lucien had returned from his meeting with one of the human lords, she had told him as much, and he had laughed, and now they huddled together, eating the fresh-baked pie, just the two of them. Outside rain was pouring, and though the thunder and lightning had long since retreated into the distance, the rain didn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Elain watched Lucien eat, trying not to focus too hard on the way his full lips closed over the fork or how his tongue flicked over them to catch errant cherry juice. She wanted to lick it off for him.
She turned abruptly down to her piece, face heating. Thoughts like that were exactly the sort of shit she was trying to avoid. Things would be easier if she didn’t think them.
Just because she and Lucien were on good terms now, it didn’t erase the fact that she had been cold to him for all those years, or the fact that his heart still belonged to Jessminda. Elain had cried with him when he had finally told her about what happened, overwhelmed by how much pain he had endured just for loving someone. Losing Graysen had nearly destroyed her, but Graysen had left her, betrayed her. Jessminda had been taken from Lucien. When Elain saw the look on Lucien’s face as he told the story, she finally understood that his dedication to her had never been about some unrequited love. It was because Lucien was an honorable male, and she was his mate, and he wanted to do right by her. It wasn’t that he was trying to make her fall in love. That’s what she told herself, all those months ago.
She jumped as a flick of hot cherry juice hit her in the face. “Lucien!” she squealed, scrambling for a napkin.
He laughed, loud and bright. “Sorry, can’t help it. You’re an easy target when you’re all spaced out like that.” He looked at her over his slice of pie, gold eye whirring as he surveyed her. She had been glad to learn that him just eating something she made was not enough to count as accepting the bond—she had to offer it to him with that intention, her sisters had explained. It didn’t even have to be something she made, actually—neither of her sisters had actually made their mates the food they used. It had certainly taken a load of stress off, to know that she wouldn’t have to spend all her time living here with the Band of Exiles worried that Lucien might accidentally take a bite of something she had made and pin her to the nearest surface.
Not that she would mind, currently, if he wanted to pin her against the nearest anything.
She noticed at the last second that he was loading up another shot, and she whipped up the towel she was holding just in time for cherry pie filling to splatter against it. “Stop it!”
“Then quit spacing out and tell me what’s wrong.” He frowned. “Is it serious? Are you having visions?”
“No,” she said. “I’m fine. Just thinking about Koschei. Worrying about Vassa.” That wasn’t a total lie. They were all worried about that these days.
Lucien’s eyes softened. “Me too. But whatever happens, we’ll get her back if we have to, no matter what it takes.”
See, he was fond of Vassa too. His soft gazes and loyal kindness weren’t just for Elain.
She wanted that thought to make her feel better. It did not.
“Hey,” he said, coming around the counter in the center of the kitchen to put his hands on her arms. Even though she was wearing long sleeves, she wondered if he could feel the way gooseflesh erupted along them. “I know…” He chewed his lip. “I know that we’re still new to…being friends. But I want you to feel like you can talk to me. If, uh, you would like to,” he finished, blushing slightly.
Cauldron, why was he like this? Kind and gentle and forward, teasing her one moment and more caring than her own father the next. The warmth of his large hands on her arms, the closeness of his face to hers, was too much for her to bear. Her body was beginning to react, and she prayed he wouldn’t notice.
Then he sucked in a sharp little breath, and she knew it was no use. Her scent had changed, and he had noticed, and suddenly Elain was hot with mortification. She pulled herself out of his arms, away from him. He was standing between her and both exits to the kitchen, so without thinking, Elain turned and ran through the only exit available to her—the door right out into the gardens, into the pouring rain.
She was soaked through in seconds, cooling her shame-burning skin, but she ran, even as she heard Lucien calling her name behind her. Unfortunately, with her thin slippers and thick gown now soaked through with rainwater, combined with Lucien’s long legs and fae speed, he caught up to her in seconds.
“Elain!” He grabbed her arm, whipping her around to face him. Elain’s face began to feel hot again, and tears mixed with rainwater on her face. “What has gotten into you? Why are you running from me?”
She told herself she was imagining the double meaning, the hidden weight behind those words. As she gathered her thoughts trying to find a pretty lie or the strength to run again, she suddenly felt a bubble of warmth enclose her. The rainwater still pelted them but its cold was leeched away. Lucien was using his magic to warm them. Even thinking she might be mad at him, he was taking care of her.
Elain looked up at him, at the raw concern in his eyes, and she couldn’t help it. She took his face in her hands, pressed up onto her tiptoes, and kissed him.
He gasped, and the heat around them vanished, as though he had been so startled he couldn’t concentrate on his magic. Elain held herself to him—she was going to kiss him until he told her stop. If this was the only time she got to kiss him, she was going to make it count.
Then, slowly, the heat returned, and Lucien’s arms circled her waist, drawing her to him. He was kissing her back. They stood like that for a long but too-short moment before Lucien pulled his face from hers and said, “Was that all?”
“What?” Elain asked, bewildered. She felt outside her own body, like this was vision, or a dream. Except that there was rainwater pouring into her eyes.
Lucien smirked, resting his forehead against hers. “Was that what was bothering you so much? You just wanted to kiss me really bad?” He was joking, but she thought there was a slight waver in his voice, like maybe he was a little stunned too.
“I-I—” She tried to summon something snarky to say back, but she couldn’t. She felt raw with emotion, and as Lucien saw so, the smirk fell from his face. Elain decided that she would just have to tell him the truth. “I thought…I know your heart still belongs to her,” she said, knowing he would know who she meant. Lucien took in a breath to speak, but she kept going. “And after I spent all that time ignoring you, it felt presumptuous to think you would want me, romantically, now. It was presumptuous to have ever assumed you wanted me like that, because I know you didn’t choose me as your mate either, that you wanted it to be her—”
She was cut off by Lucien’s lips on hers. He kissed her with a passion and intention that made her knees weak, and she hoped the rain would hide how her scent was changing again.
When he pulled back, he said, “I thought Jessminda was my mate because I had never loved someone like that. She was taken from me, and I may never stop grieving her, but I understand that she isn’t coming back.” Elain pressed her forehead to his again, hoping it was comforting. He moved one hand up from the small of her back to rest on the nape of her neck, his thumb brushing over her hairline there. “But I…I am ready to be in love again, Elain. If you would have a broken male, I promise that my grief for Jessminda won’t keep me from loving you. It hasn’t so far, not since you arrived here.”
It was her turn to gasp. His affections had been growing for that long? “Why didn’t you say something?” she asked.
           Lucien chuckled. “Why didn’t you?”
           “I already told you why.”
“Fair.” He sighed. “Because we had agreed. We had agreed to be friends, and I knew you weren’t looking for another romantic relationship after what you had gone through. So I told myself to give you space, like I always have, until you were ready.” He smiled again, pulling her a little closer. “And here we are.”
She didn’t like that he had been right, the clever fox, but in that moment her heart felt so light that she couldn’t even complain to him about it. Elain reached up, pushing her fingers through his damp hair. She kissed him again, and he kissed her back, heads tipping, lips parting, tongues moving. Elain shivered, which she attributed to their kiss, but then Lucien whispered, “Maybe we should get out of the rain.”
She had almost forgotten about it. “Oh. Maybe so.” She giggled, and Lucien turned, offering her his arm. Elain took it, and together they walked back to the house, away from the storm.

ACOTAR 5 or 6?? (I don’t know which book is next)
Did someone ask for this? No, not really. Am I still going to theorize how the next book is going to go in length? Yes, yes I will. Also I’m doing a facemask that needs 20min to set in so like, I have time to kill.
I have seen many saying that Azriel’s book is next because through him we will get Illyria, which still needs to be dealt with. Also through him we get Gwynriel and that. Even though I can definitely see the logic behind that, I thought I might throw in another option just for shits and giggles.
This is more like a fever dream than anything. Don’t hold me to it, because I haven’t read these books with the academic rigorosity to come up with counter arguments as to why it’s Az’s and not Elain’s book that will come next. But, that being said, if I’m right I will say I told you so (lol).
Also this will further my Elucien agenda so like... yeah you’ve been warned.
Why Elain?
Because I think it makes more sense to go have a book deal with one villain working up to Koshei, than to have Beron+Koshei as the big baddies in one final book. So like ACOSF was the human queen, ACOTAR 5 is Beron and then ACOTAR 6 ultimate baddie Koshei. And who is character that has ties to Beron? Lucien and who would Lucien’s book be with? exactly, Azriel. no I’m kidding, of course Elain.
I also think Elain was a character that had a huge presence in this ACOSF despite having like three sentences. You could see her impact in the book and to me that was quite telling.
ACOTAR 5:
Right so we all can agree on a few things after being in this fandom for a couple of years or at least since the end of ACOSF: first, Elain and Lucien will deliver a Jane Austen type romance; second, it will entail a lot of court politics; and third, Elain is up to something and no one knows what it is. Yes?
First Act:
Elain doing her suspicious stuff and we as the reader find out what it is and can already see the negative implications
Lucien still taking the brunt of the work in the SC, which is still utter chaos.
BoE content: Vassa is agitated because her curse is nowhere near close to being broken and time is running out.
The IC finds out what Elain is been up to. I do think it has something to do with her wanting to go back to her human self. Cue the confrontation.
Meanwhile with Lucien: Vassa might attempt something it triggers a magical response from Koshei, an attack or something. Maybe Beron decides to make a move to the SC given that Tamlin is absent as a ruler. I don’t know, the point is we get a confrontation scene that sees Tamlin die to protect Lucien. Everyone is in shock because the HL of Spring just died, without heirs and close relatives. Where did the power go?
Lucien starts to feel it, but then he realizes that it’s not because it is happening to him.
Cue to Elain having her “i want to be human again I don’t care the cost” rant at the IC. Amren will call her a stupid girl, because that’s what she does. Then the power flows to her and she’s going to be hella confused, everyone in the IC is stunned and when Elain asks wtf just happened, Feyre will say: Tamlin died (because she can feel the shift of power of spring due to the kernel of power of spring that she has), so that means and Rhysand finishes the thought by saying that Elain is the new High Lady of the Spring Court (and the first cauldron-chosen high lady)
This means that now she has more ties to this fae world and can’t simply abandon them.
We will have some discussion about what to do next and Elain is all like “I don’t want to be High Lady I didn’t even want to be fae”. Trust someone in the IC, maybe Amren (since she has no problem with saying what everyone else is thinking in the bluntest-maybe even rudest way), to say that having Elain be HL of Spring would make everyone’s life easier given the unified Prythian front they must once again have because of the Koshei threat. Maybe it will even be Azriel and they will have the E/lriel fallout...
Lucien arrives at the NC to talk to Elain or well something.
News spread about what happened and they know that Elain’s claim (if she chooses to make it) to the SC is a tad shaky and not everyone will accept it. Beron is like the fuck if you think I will accept this human-turned fae claim. The SC is an strategic location and I will take it for myself because it will be useful fo my Koshei-agenda.
Eris arrives like hello my dad is about to move his army to the SC so now is the time to kill him
And Elain is still like “i don’t want it”. Think Jon Snow in GoT.
Cue an Archeron confrontation of “you can’t run away from your responsabilities// life is not neat and sometimes it will throw at you things you thought you wouldn’t have thought you’d needed to take on// take a stance for once and think beyond your own plants”.
Details are blurry but she is like I need to leave here (the NC) because no one has my best interest at heart they are just doing what it’s politically best. But who might have my best interest at heart? That’s right, Lucien. She asks him for help or to leave or whatever.
Lucien is a politician and a courtier but for once, for fucking once he will do something that’s not for political gain (for the court he represents). He will help her because he wants to see her at peace. They go to the human lands with BoE.
The first act ends with one dead Tamlin, one unsure Elain, one willing to help regardless of the decision Lucien, and one war focused Beron.
Second act:
The BoE content we have all been waiting for
Vassa might be weak from whatever happened and Jurian is all worried.
They see Elucien arrive and are like 👀👀👀👀. Lucien glares at them in a “say anything and i will in fact kill you” way.
Elain starts to open up and mentions that if anything it should be Lucien who’s the HL and not her because he knows the territory and it suits his skillset. All she wanted to do was have a quiet life and see the world.
Lucien says that if he were to make a claim he would need even more support from other courts, because if Elain’s claim is shaky at best, then his is like ... not great.
They agree that Lucien should travel to other courts to gather support because regardless whether it’s Elain or Lucien who will ascend to the Spring throne, they will need it. Elain asks if she can go with him because, as she said, she wanted to see more of the world.
We also get an Eris Vanserra visit - or several - and Lucien starts to realize that Eris knows waaaaaaaaaaaay more than he has lead on. And that they need to work together because again, regardless of who takes the throne, Beron will fight it, but if Eris is on the Autumn throne he would offer support to either.
Cue the Lads tour of Prythian ft. Politics-courtier plotline and the “how the fuck are we going to help Vassa” side quest.
Elain starts to learn more about what it takes to be a High Lady and about the territory of Spring and its people.
During visits to other courts one or two members of the IC will pop in and out.
Elucien slow burn + court romance begins (We have nice balls with tension because that’s how Jane Austen would have wanted it and this is nothing if not an austenian romance).
Elan will learn about Jessminda (that’s her name right?)
Lucien and Elain have a heart to heart one day and Lucien is like “I’ve never had a home that is mine, i’ve always owed it to someone else or it comes because they see me as a political pawn”.
Eventually another heart to heart about the complex grief (if you will) that Lucien must be feeling for Tamlin.
When we get to the Day Court, we get the baby news. Not only are they trying to gather Helion’s support but also to figure out a spell to save Vassa. Doing something with a spell Lucien and Helion find out. I imagine that Feysand is in the DC because they are trying to keep tabs on how Elain is feeling regarding her High Lady position and they wanted to meet somewhere neutral; and so is Eris, because things are getting out of hand at the AC so they are trying to see what they should do. Also Feysand are nosy bitches so of course they would be there.
After the reveal, Lucien is shooketh and leaves, Elain leaves after him. It is raining. They get wet and he stops when he arrives at a temple (we love a good P&P reference) Lucien starts the monologue of what does this mean, who am i, I’ve always been alone and Elain cuts in and says that maybe in the past he’s been alone but that he will never be again; Lucien turns to face her and she walks up to him and kisses him like the Cauldron intended when it made them mates.
We Eluciens are starting getting our well deserved smutt dishes.
Third act:
Elain is still  a tad unsure about being a High Lady, because all she ever heard was that she was good at being pretty and an ornament, that she was meant to be the supporting role. Lucien is like “babes fuck what your mom said but no matter what you choose, I will choose you”.
Finally shit hits the fan at the AC so that’s where Elucien go and Helion.. because LoA is there and he says fuck it imma go help her Beron can go fuck himself.
However they do not arrive at the palace or something like that but to another location where we can finally have visual proof of what Eris has been up to. LoA appears. Her and Helion have a nice tête-a-tête.
Vassa and Jurian are there too beause #WereGoingToNeedAllTheHelpWeCanGet
Elucien formally arrive to Beron’s court, as is the plan.
The tension is absurd, the coup is about to happen, something goes wrong, they need to think of their feet, somebody gets hurt.. you know the usual stuff.
They use the spell to free Vassa and in such release of power Beron is confused and weakened
Lady of Autumn delivers the killing blow. Beron dies, power goes to Eris and everyone is like did we win??
Eris makes the joke that whichever half of Elucien will make the claim to the SC he will support it. By this moment is clear that Elain will take up the role so we all have a good laugh.
Archeron sister reunion, congratulations all around. Maybe a celebration in the SC??? or maybe that’s too tacky given that the whole court is still a mess,
Happy ending?? oh wait there’s something more uh-oh, when freeing Vassa you also freed Koshei. Oh you thought you had weakened Koshei by killing is Prythian ally? think again. Koshei is a god of death that now has full access to his powers.
The end.
