The Bell XP-59-1A The first US Jet Powered Aircraft, 1942.
➤➤ JET ENGINE REVOLUTION (Documentary): https://youtu.be/KHeoTpXvYZA
Back then a short, fussy Englishman checked into downtown Boston’s Hotel Statler and made a peculiar set of demands.
After registering at the front desk (today’s Boston Park Plaza) as “Mr. Whitely,” he demanded a phone installed in his room not connected to the main switchboard. Meals must be served in his room and delivered by the same bellhop. And please, no surprise knocks on the door.
The mysterious little man was actually Frank Whittle, a 34-year-old Royal Air Force (RAF) officer, pilot, and inventor of the jet engine. Earlier in the year, he nearly suffered a nervous breakdown from exhaustion while racing to bring England, under attack from Germany, into the jet age...

Faa wants me to know all about ...turbojets from the late 40s thru 60s for my exam, but the textbook I get from them is so vague on the subject. Luckily I have a 1950 naval training manual the plane museum gave me to read up on. :3
Gonna beg em to let me pull some components off their (already cut open) J33 to inspect and make silly noises over as I find neat things >:3
Some interesting things I found on this engine so far:
1. It used sparkplugs. The jet engines to superseded this one utilized ignitor plugs similar to modern jets and diesel powered vehicles. (Standard jet fuel really is just a more refined diesel-practically kerosene. Super dry compared to standard diesel tho)
2. It used a water/alcohol mixture injection in the compressor inlet to improve thrust at low altitudes.
3. The metallurgy to contain the heat in the exaust wasnt there yet so they just wrapped it up with everything they had 😆
