Her First & Her Future pt 4
Maddy Perez x Reader
Word Count: 1.6k
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Maddy, Kat, and Y/n go to see Lexi's play. Surprisingly they get their own spotlight when trying to save the play from Cassie's inability to handle seeing the flaws in her own character.
An: This is end hope you guys enjoy this little series. I really enjoyed writing for Maddy.
Pt.1 Pt.2 Pt.3
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It was finally time to see Lexi's secret masterpiece. The art that she was afraid would be too real to handle. She didn't share a lot about the play with Y/n.
She said it was one of those pieces where art imitates life. She said that the people closest to her could end up hating her for this. Y/n thought she was being overdramatic.
However, once the play started, she had truly begun to understand what Lexi meant. This play was about them, her friends and her family. Maybe slightly protected by changes in name, but it was so obvious.
" Is that-" Maddy started.
" Us," Y/n finished, intertwining their fingers together.
Lexi was reading everyone to filth, especially Nate and Cassie. They sat a few rows back from Y/n, Maddy, and Kat.
Everyone had certain flaws and seeing them on stage was almost surreal. Y/n wasn't safe from Lexi's story. The part where they kissed under the bleachers made it into the play, also Y/n's small issue with marijuana was there, but so was her recovery. There are bits about her relationship with Maddy, but not everything.
In Lexi's play it was clear that she was scared the Y/n would turn out to be like Rue. She was scared that she would lose another one of her friends to addiction and unhealthy relationships. It made the recovery process more important for Lexi than it was for Y/n, in hindsight. It made Y/n tear up a bit.
" Are you good?" Maddy sees the tears collecting in Y/n's eyes.
The girl nods with a smile on her lips," Ya, Lexi is a fucking genius."
Then it happens. The musical scene about Y/n's brother. His hyper masculinity which can be seen as a cover for his questionable sexuality. Maddy and Kat share a look that says more than words can before glancing back at the boy.
Y/n catches her brother's eyes and she feels sorry for him. This is humiliating, it's damn near a public outing. After all he's done it seems like karma finally caught up to him, in the way it knew it would hurt him the most.
" Lexi, you're a fucking g!"
It's not a second later that Nate storms out of the auditorium and Cassie scurries after him. It only takes a few moments for the blonde girl to burst through the doors again.
An evil look on her face. She doesn't stop at her seats, instead she heads straight for the stage.
Y/n can't believe it when Cassie actually gets on stage and begins to hijack Lexi's play. Her true ego perfectly imitated the character Lexi was depicting in her play.
During her dramatic monologue she grabs Lexi from behind the stage and drags her out in front of the crowd. When Y/n sees her best friend in tears, she decides she's had enough. Unfortunately for Cassie, Maddy also decides she's had enough in that moment.
They both get up at the same time, but pause when they see Suze get on stage trying to handle the situation.
Cassie keeps going on her reign of terror. She even asks Lexi if this is the part of the play where she steals Jake from Marta, otherwise known as Nate and Maddy, is in the play.
" That's not in the play."
That's when Maddy can no longer hold her tongue," It is now."
The crowd ooo's as the actor playing Cassie tries to calm the real Cassie down. It's too late now, Maddy has already started.
" Not only that but she fucking him the entire time Marta was talking about getting back together with him."
" Why?"
Y/n answers this one," Cause Halle's a two faced cunt."
Cassie shoots daggers at Y/n," Oh like she didn't do the same thing to you when she left you for your brother!"
" At least she didn't let her ego stop her from apologizing in the end. We worked it out because she can admit to her mistakes. Every character in this plays has their flaws, but fuck Cassie for you to be the only one get on the stage and act just like your character speaks volumes, doesn't it?"
" Like she said, you're a two faced cunt," Maddy repeats.
" I'm not a cunt, you're the cunt," Cassie growls.
Maddie doesn't miss a beat," You're the fucking cunt bitch."
Suze tries and fails once again to get Cassie off the stage. It seems like the stagehands figured something out, the play just resumes where it left off. Which eventually pushes Cassies off the stage.
However at the sight of Halle on the carousel the audience can hear Cassie's high pitched scream from backstage. She bum rushes the actor and starts fighting with her on the stage.
Suze tries to break them apart, but it's not working. Maddy has officially had enough," Oh this bitch needs to be put down."
She's rushing towards the stage as soon as the words leave her mouth. Y/n is the first to follow the girl followed by Kat and BB.
Kat keeps screaming," Maddy no, no,no" as she tries to get the girl.
Maddy takes her shoes off on the stairs and tosses them to Y/n. Jacob's girl stops on the edge of the stage. Kat runs past her again screaming, "Maddy, no."
While Bb is the complete opposite," Beat her ass, Maddy."
Y/n watches with wide eyes as Cassie tries to run from Maddy. However, the stage is limited. When Maddy catches her, she ends up slapping the girl dead in the face.
Every time Maddy gets a hold of Cassie, Kat pulls her off giving the blonde another chance to scurry away. They exit through the back stage and that's when Y/n decides to follow them. She gets a glimpse of Maddy shoving Cassie's head into the brick wall, which causes her to speed up.
She passes BB who is still encouraging Maddy's behavior. They all end up in the girl's restroom. The fight was still going until Y/n finally separated the pair.
She held Maddy from behind, keeping from the other girl. Kat stood in between the girls just in case.
" You got her, it's over," Y/n whispers into Maddy's ear. She watches as her breath returns to normal.
Y/n hesitantly lets go of Maddy who then sits on the edge of the sinks. Kat takes her place in the middle and Cassie on the other edge.
" I gotta go check on Lexi. Please don't beat this bitch up, while I'm gone," Y/n pleads to Maddy. She kisses the top of Maddy's forehead after the latina agrees to not be violent.
Then she goes back to the auditorium entering the same way she had exited before. She asks a bunch of the stage crew if they had seen Lexi, to which most of them answer no.
She takes it upon herself to find her friend. It takes awhile, but she finds her sitting with her back against the wall talking to Bobbi.
" Lex," she says, getting both of the girl's attention.
" Y/n I-"
Y/n cuts her off immediately," I love it. Everything about it. You're a genius Lex and you deserve this moment more than anything. Don't let her take this from you."
Lexi looks from Y/n to Bobbi and then stands. She wipes the tears from her eyes and nods her head a couple of times.
Y/n scoops the girl up in a hug," I see you and I'm so proud, Lex. Now go break a leg, while I make sure Maddy hasn't beat the shit out of Cassie."
That gets her to chuckle," Thanks Y/n."
She watches as her friend centers herself. Her professionalism takes control as she makes her way back on to the stage. Y/n waits until she hears cheers as Lexi steps back on the stage.
When she does, it's her cue to go back to the restroom to check on that situation. The silence is vast as she re-enters the bathroom, the only hint of sound comes from BB's vape.
Maddy's icing a cut on her foot with a coke can. At Y/n's entrance Cassie finally finds it appropriate to speak.
" Do you know what's funny? Nate broke up with me before I even went on that stage."
There's a knowing look in Maddy's eyes when she responds,"  Don't worry, this is just the beginning."
Cassie looks around for a moment. The redness reappeared in her eyes. It's clear she wants to cry again. Maddy doesn't stick around for the tears and instead leaves the restroom. Y/n follows her out.
" Maddy-"
" I'm good, for real."
Y/n nods," Okay."
Maddy slips her hand into Y/n's. The bruises from the fight don't  bother her in the slightest. She squeezes Y/n's hand gently," I want us to be official."
The pair walked down the school halls. Y/n responds," Are you sure?"
Maddy smiles up at the girl." Ya, I want you to be my girlfriend."
Her smile makes Y/n smile in return. " It's about fucking time."
Maddy playfully shoves her shoulder," Shut up."
Y/n laughs before pulling the girl closer into her side," I'd love to be your girlfriend Maddy."
They step out of the school doors hand in hand. The pink sky silhouettes the two as the stand atop of the steps. They stop and face each other. The birds seem to sing for them as they smile at each other.
They kiss. Passion, need, and longing, all running through their lips. They hold each other close as if they're both frightened to let go.
Finally reality doesn't plague Y/n anymore. She's no longer just Maddy's first, but her future as well.

SAME OLD LOVE ↠ 「 RUE BENNETT 」
PROLOGUE I.
PAIRINGS: Rue Bennett x OC! (romantic), Maddy Perez x OC! (platonic, siblings), Cassie Howard x OC! (platonic), Lexi Howard x OC! (platonic), Chris McKay x OC! (platonic), Nate Jacob x OC! (platonic)
WORDS: 1,414.
NOTES: It’s official! My intense and committed love for River and Martha and their relationship has inspired me to write Jackie and Rue’s relationship. Also, I decided to make some changes and so I changed my OC’s name to Jackie and wrote her as Maddy’s sibling instead.
SUMMARY: Jackie Noelle Perez is not the stereotypical party girl, everyone wants to believe she is, the beloved brunette is quite the kindest person in her town. Throughout such an uncertain environment that she and older sister, Maddy grew up in, Jackie was someone that was wary of certain people but still tried her best to be kind. Sometimes, to most people especially those who crushed on her, her kind nature could be at fault of her flirtatious personality. The girl always loved to have a good time and with her sister, they met and became friends with Cassie and her sister, Lexi. Throughout this whole ordeal however, this resulted in her meeting the infamous, Rue Bennett, someone she had no idea she would fall for let alone love and trust someone that she didn’t trust yet.
TAGLIST: @shycollectionwolfstuff
Tumblr media
JACKIE NOELLE PEREZ, was known for being quite the passionate and artistic girl, she was one of the most well known, highly liked and popular girls at her school for exactly that. In fact, with the connections her and her sister had as well as being best friends with both Kat and Cassie, three of her best friends and apart of the popular clique in her high school, she along with her friends were considered one of the queen bees by those who would see her as so with the stereotypical movie tropes.
Despite what others would accuse especially considering she was a confident woman, Jackie had been one of the sweetest and kindest girls in town. She was very welcoming and offered comfort to every person she had met.
As a matter of fact, Jackie had been very comforting to her on-again, off-again girlfriend, Rue Bennett. Someone whom she had quite a close friendship which eventually had turned into a relationship as the two began to develop romantic feelings for one another because of this obvious closeness.
But despite how much Jackie had loved and cared for Rue, she couldn’t handle the fact that Rue had developed a drug addiction which ultimately, had caused very nasty arguments which led to numerous breakups and makeups, a relationship that her sister and best friend, Maddy had known all too well.
Drug addiction was just a real cruel tragedy to Jackie, she already had lost a loved one to drug abuse and Jackie couldn’t bear to lose Rue either to this drug abuse because if she did, she would never be able to forgive herself for what wasn’t even her fault to begin with in the first place.
And despite the fact that Jackie was no saint herself considering that she loved to smoke marijuana, drink alcohol and party, she never went overboard nor ever partook in doing harder drugs than marijuana.
The brunette knew that truly, she could love Rue all she wanted but there would be a point that even that wouldn’t do or stop anything, the troubled Rue had to change for herself.
Throughout the times in her childhood, she had witnessed substance addiction with the notion of her own father who was an alcoholic. Noticing the effect of how much that impacts a person let alone a relationship broke her heart.
Because of some past heartbreaks, Jackie couldn’t help but be fearful of being open with people she could at times be so unsure of but as she learned that not everyone is your worst enemy nor against you but rather, they care and love you and just want the best for you which helped break the emotional barrier of being so closed off and more open to certain people she was close with.
When Maddy and herself became friends and were introduced to Cassie Howard and her younger sister, Lexi that was when everything changed. The two sisters had eventually introduced the two to Lexi’s best friend, Rue Bennett. Jackie could never believe that she could be caught up and love someone else in a truly romantic way, considering that she was known for being a complete party girl who was afraid of commitment nor would be capable of being such a romantic person as people always felt that there was nobody that she loved more than herself or her family and friends.
However, with amazing highs in a relationship came also extremely amounts of lows for them, the two would have huge arguments over jealousy due to Jackie’s flirtatious personality, Rue’s drug addiction and the distance Jackie gave Rue which definitely hurt Rue considering how deeply in love she was with her.
As much as she didn’t want to break Rue’s heart, there were numerous times of noticing the immense change in personality of Rue due to how bad her drug addiction became, Jackie could not bare to see her like this which resulted in Jackie distancing herself from her girlfriend and in multiple attempts of said arguments and ultimatums, she couldn’t help but feel that the only chance they had in surviving this relationship was various breakups and breaks in the relationship which eventually, they made up in.
For what Jackie deemed as the final attempt to get Rue to receive help, she felt that breaking up was the best decision she made especially when discussing with Maddy and this she felt was the final breakup.
Jackie was going to stick to her word this time around, she’s aware how many times that she said that but then, got back together with Rue but this time, she was serious and Jackie wouldn’t consider a chance of their reconciliation until Rue would accept that she had a problem and get herself help.
The recent breakup had completely devastated Rue and had left her in a total heartbreaking state. The girl could not believe that their relationship was truly over this time around especially since it was an unwanted split and something she didn’t expect whatsoever.
As a way to try to accept such news, Rue had abused various drugs as a sort of coping mechanism in losing Jackie since she was still very much in love with the beloved redhead.
Through abusing more drugs, Rue felt that it would help but it truly only made things worse for her especially in her addiction as the thought of her no longer having her girl to stand beside her, being her refuge, it was clearly the beginning of the end for her.
With endless amount of drugs, it left Rue in such an unfortunate fate, battling whether she would live or die with the cause of a drug overdose, something Jackie couldn’t help but believe was truly her fault if she hadn’t left her, she’d still be okay.
In the midst of Jackie’s act of grieving over their relationship ending which happened over the summer, she retreated back to her party girl and flirtatious ways, something that she had already been doing but this time went more into extreme lengths than all the other times.
The woman felt that it would be in the best idea and interest if she didn’t focus on a romantic relationship afterwards as her way was to explore and keep her options open.
In her way of thinking, dealing with a breakup with someone she still loved was as painful as if she was to accidentally toy with someone’s feelings which was something people secretly deemed to be true of her.
Jackie had been seen as someone who could make everyone fall in love with her oftentimes all in the same minute which was also thanks to her flirty nature and her genuine aura.
Despite the various times that Jackie would see her relationship with Rue to be truly over, it was clear for those who knew the truth that it so would not be. By intending to try to do so, Jackie would hookup and try to pursue other relationships with whoever she could sense was worth her time.
At the end of it, despite any relationship that they each had which was more of Jackie than Rue, they would always find their way back to each other, the two had that same old love.

The Two of Us
Tumblr media
Request: Yes or No
Pronouns: He/Him/His
This could’ve easily been an imagine buttttt
~~~
Jealousy wasn’t new to Kat. Just like anyone else, she got jealous things people had; clothes, jewelry, hair type, boys. She even got jealous of her friends every once in a while. Maddy and Cassie had the perfect looks and charm that had every guy they met drooling over them. Maddy was feisty and played hard to get while Cassie gave them naivety and did whatever they asked. Kat was... well, she was Kat. The friend of the two most beautiful and popular girls in school.
But there was one thing in particular that made her jealous of Cassie. The attention you gave her. The blonde had you wrapped around her finger and Kat hated it. God, she hated it so much. She wanted to be the one you texted every morning and night. The one you greeted with a kiss in the hallways, even after fights. Kat would never hate a friend over a guy, but the way you stared at Cassie made Kat want to rip her pretty blonde locks right out of her scalp.
However, you were still her best friend, and as long as she had you, she was happy. Or it was what she told herself anyway.
“I can’t believe you wrote this.” Your laughed cut through her thoughts, leaving her bewildered until she turned her head and spotted her laptop resting on your lap.
With a gasp, she rushed forward and ripped it from your hands, cradling the laptop against her chest with flushed cheeks. “You said you wouldn’t snoop!”
“You made it sound so tempting!” You laughed again and reached forward, attempting to pry the laptop from her hands. “It’s good, Kat! You’re good at writing. Even if it’s One Direction fanfiction.”
“Hey!”
“Not judging!” You raised your hands, the smile on your face making it hard for her to be annoyed with you. Kat could only sigh in defeat, setting the laptop down on the bed and flopping over, letting her head sink into the pillow. She turned her head to look at you, watching as you took out your phone and smiled at the deceive.
Her stomach twisted and her heart grew heavy. She could tell who you were texting just from the dumb lovestruck smile on your face and her eyes sting. Taking in a deep breath, she blinked away the tears and reached over, tugging at the back of your shirt.
You took the hint and lied back, setting your phone aside and shifting so you were laying on your stomach, head turned to look at her. Your arms slid under the pillows and for a moment, Kat wished it was her in its place.
“Can I tell you something?”
“Yeah.” Kat nodded, her heart picking up at the possibilities. A love confession? Were you planning on breaking up with Cassie? Was the moment she’d been dreaming off for years about to happen?
“You promise not to tell anyone?”
“Of course.” Her fingers gripped onto the sheets, lips twitching into a smile.
“I think my friend has a crush on you.”
Oh.
Kat pressed her lips together and forced out a hum, looking up at the ceiling of her bedroom. Of course, it wasn’t what she imagined. You were too sweet and loyal to hurt Cassie.
“Don’t look so disappointed! Ethan’s a really good guy, and you guys have a lot in common. For example, I tolerate the both of you.”
“Oh, shut up.” Reaching over and taking the pillow out from underneath her, you buried your face into the pillow you held as she smacked you with hers. Kat pushed herself up and onto her knees, grabbing the pillow with both hands and raising it. Taking the opportunity, you rolled over and held your pillow up to use as a shield against Kats’ attacks.
“I only said the truth!” You protested, pushing Kat back into a sitting position. She let out a soft squeal as you and her switched roles, giggles leaving her.
“Nice to see you two haven’t grown up.” Pausing your movements, you looked up at her mom and flashed a charming smile.
“Hi, Mrs. Hernandez.”
“I ordered pizza for dinner. I’ll call you when it gets here.” She said, reaching forward for the doorknob. “And be careful. I don’t need one of you falling off the bed.” With that, her mom shut the door.
Heaving a sigh, you sat on the bed properly and smiled. “You should give him a chance, Kat. He’d be good for you.”
“I’m sure he’s great.” Kat responded honestly, tucking a strand of hair back and letting her finger run back and forth over a wrinkle in the sheets. “And I’d probably like him if I got to know him.”
“But?”
“But..” She began, lifting her gaze from the sheets and meeting your eyes. As much as she wanted to see if there was a chance you’d like her, she couldn’t risk losing your friendship.
“I don’t think I’m ready for a relationship. I mean.. Look how my last one ended.”
“You mean Daniel? From 6th grade?”
“Okay, when you say it like that it sounds pathetic.” Kat laughed and licked her lips. “I don’t want to get heartbroken.”
Humming softly, you turned and leaned back, laying down and resting your head on the girls lap. Kat bit the inside of her cheek, feeling her face heat up. Giving a meek smile, she raised her hand and traced your facial features, watching your eyes close.
“You risk heartbreak in all relationships, Kat. Taking chances is a part of life and sometimes those chances come with heartbreak. You might miss out on something good if you don’t start taking risks.” If only you knew the turmoil that unleashed in the teenager. Here you were, encouraging her to take risks while she constantly battled with her feelings.
“If you and Cassie ever break up, promise me nothing will change between us.” Kat murmured softly. Her words made your brows furrow, eyes opening to study her face.
“Promise it’ll always be the two of us.”
“I promise.”
Why do you think the Euphoria fandom's most popular characters/ship is Lexi Howard & Fezco (Fexi)? They're not one of the main ships featured on the show, like Rue and Jules. And while many fans clearly identify with Lexi, who is intelligent, dedicated, caring and passionate, I wonder why (especially amongst fellow fanfic writers) Kat Hernandez, who writes fanfiction and has a secret double life on the internet, isn't more popular in the Euphoria fandom, or featured more prominently in fanfic.
Oh, this is an interesting ask! I’ve actually thought a lot about why I’m still so enamored by these two, and I think there’s a combination of things that made so many of us fall so hard for them.
One thing is that they were a lot of people’s favorite’s characters individually. Fez is the drug dealer with a difficult past and a heart of gold. Lexi is the relatable writer with a vivid imagination who’s overlooked by her friends and family. They’re two of the most sensible, down to earth, genuinely kind characters on a pretty dark, chaotic show and that makes them easy and fun to root for.
Another thing, and probably the most important one, is that all of their interactions were absolutely flawless. Every single line of dialogue gave me butterflies, their body language made me swoon, their chemistry is simply unmatched and I think they altered our collective brain chemistry forever. The connection they found in each other felt so unexpected, but so genuine and sweet—which was a delightful breath of fresh air. They were just two shy, kind of awkward teenagers falling in love and it was a beautiful thing to watch.
There’s also the fact that they fit so many tropes people love (good girl/bad boy, opposites attract etc.) while subverting them in really satisfying ways at the same time. Sure Fez is ‘bad’ 'cause he sells drugs and beats people up, but he’s also one of the sweetest, most caring people on the show, and Lexi is ‘good’, but she is a lot more than that, so much more complex. They both have many of those famous layers to peel back, and they compliment and contrast each other in ways that I personally find endlessly fascinating to explore.
As for them not having a lot of screen time, I actually think that’s contributed to us being blessed with so many amazing and creative fics, not hindered it. Having so little to go on, means we have so much to fill in, so much to imagine, so many scenarios to explore in our writing. How did the phone calls start? What happened after the store scene? How often did they hang out? How does Lexi find out about the raid? Where do they go from there? There’s nothing like unanswered question to fuel your desire to write something that answers them, I think. Personally, I’d never been in a fandom, written or even read fic before. But after 5 minutes of Fexi I was all over tumblr, signing up for AO3 and typing furiously in three different google docs. I’m still not entirely sure why, but Fexi were a rush unlike anything and I can’t wait to have them back, I miss them! As for Kat, I really don't know. She was one of my favorite characters in s1, more so than Lexi or Fezco, but I think a lot of writers prefer to write about ships, and even though her and Ethan were sweet (I mean that scene at winter formal? Heart eyes!) I always found Ethan a little bland (sorry). Add what they did with her character in s2 and knowing she won't be back, I'm not that surprised people don't have a lot of motivation to write Kat-centric fics at the moment.
Ok so this is my estimation (and please bear in mind that I'm not a very active member of this fandom anymore, nor am I an authority on fanfic) I think that Lexi and Fez resonated so much with people because there's a lot of room for fans to speculate and ideate onto them. Like within the axes of interesting/characterisation, most of them is left to our imagination, particularly when it comes to their motivations and their futures. There was soooo much speculation about Fezco and s2e1 provided a lot of answers, same with the bit about Lexi in a car with her dad.
The other thing that strikes me is that they're two characters who are (for the most part) unfailingly nice. They're quiet, they're loyal, they're smart, and in a show full of characters who lie, scheme and manipulate, that can be a big draw. This isn't to say that not-nice characters don't attract fandom, it's their contrast against characters like Nate Jacobs who are just unfailingly just evil, and imo that makes him quite boring.
I think the issue with Kat is that her characterisation is so all over the place in the show. First she's smart then she's dumb, she's honest then she's manipulative. Coupled with the fact that the show and SL basically didn't give her a storyline in S2, and when it did it was fucking bonkers. There's such a thing as just growing weary of a character and I think that's what happened to Kat, in the interesting/characterisation graph there's a lot of room for fans to speculate about her but god the show makes her out to be so shit, it just isn't fun.
The point I'm trying to make is that Lexi and Fez provide a very rich place to mine art from because the show mostly leaves their characterisation stable and (mostly) adherent to fans' hcs while giving us just enough plot for us to keep creating.
Tbh, my main reading is this: Lexi and Fez are a heteronormative white couple. They're both conventionally attractive and fit into the bad boy with a heart of gold/ smart girl with hidden depths trope. Add to that that the show doesn't detract from their relationship like it does to Jules and Rue or their characterisations like Kat, they become fertile ground for fandom and fan work. I wish it was different and I'm not saying that I'm a saint and immune to biases, but that's just how it is. And I'm not even white or straight. Or even conventionally attractive lol. It's a combination of bad writing and unconscious biases and SL treating Barbie like shit.
so there ya go. I hope this response is up to par. Thank you for a great and nuanced question, anon. Huge departure from the terfs I usually get in my ask box.
🌌 Euphoria: Myers Briggs Types 🌌
Tumblr media
🌌 Rue Bennett [INTP] The Thinker
“INTPs present a cool exterior but are privately passionate about reason, analysis, and innovation. They seek to create complex systems of understanding to unify the principles they've observed in their environments. Their minds are complicated and active, and they will go to great mental lengths trying to devise ingenious solutions to interesting problems.” (Source: Truity)
Tumblr media
🌊 Jules Vaughn [INFJ] The Protector
“INFJs are guided by a deeply considered set of personal values. They are intensely idealistic, and can clearly imagine a happier and more perfect future. They can become discouraged by the harsh realities of the present, but they are typically motivated and persistent in taking positive action nonetheless. The INFJ feels an intrinsic drive to do what they can to make the world a better place.” (Source: Truity)
Tumblr media
🎭 Lexi Howard [INFP] The Healer
“INFPs value authenticity and want to be original and individual in what they do. They are often concerned with a search for meaning and truth within themselves. Following tradition holds little appeal for the INFP; they prefer to do their own exploration of values and ideas, and decide for themselves what seems right. INFPs are often offbeat and unconventional, but they feel no desire to conform. The INFP would rather be true to themselves than try to fit in with the crowd.” (Source: Truity)
Tumblr media
🌟 Maddy Perez [ESFP] The Performer
“Although they are characteristically fun-loving, ESFPs are also typically practical and down-to-earth. They are grounded in reality and are usually keenly aware of the facts and details in their environment, especially as they pertain to people. They are observant of others and their needs, and responsive in offering assistance. ESFPs enjoy helping other people, especially in practical, tangible ways.” (Source: Truity)
Tumblr media
✍️ Kat Hernandez [ENFP] The Inspirer
“ENFPs have an unusually broad range of skills and talents. They are good at most things which interest them. Project-oriented, they may go through several different careers during their lifetime. To onlookers, the ENFP may seem directionless and without purpose, but ENFPs are actually quite consistent, in that they have a strong sense of values which they live with throughout their lives. Everything that they do must be in line with their values. An ENFP needs to feel that they are living their lives as their true Self, walking in step with what they believe is right. They see meaning in everything, and are on a continuous quest to adapt their lives and values to achieve inner peace. They're constantly aware and somewhat fearful of losing touch with themselves. Since emotional excitement is usually an important part of the ENFP's life, and because they are focused on keeping "centered", the ENFP is usually an intense individual, with highly evolved values.” (Source: Personality Page)
⛸️ Cassie Howard [ESFJ] The Caregiver
“ESFJs are people persons - they love people. They are warmly interested in others. They use their Sensing and Judging characteristics to gather specific, detailed information about others, and turn this information into supportive judgments. They want to like people, and have a special skill at bringing out the best in others. They are extremely good at reading others, and understanding their point of view. The ESFJ's strong desire to be liked and for everything to be pleasant makes them highly supportive of others. People like to be around ESFJs, because the ESFJ has a special gift of invariably making people feel good about themselves.” (Source: Personality Page)
🌾 Fezco [ISTP] The Mechanic
“ISTPs are loyal to their causes and beliefs, and are firm believers that people should be treated with equity and fairness. Although they do not respect the rules of the "System", they follow their own rules and guidelines for behavior faithfully. They will not take part in something which violates their personal laws. ISTPs are extremely loyal and faithful to their "brothers". ISTPs like and need to spend time alone, because this is when they can sort things out in their minds most clearly. They absorb large quantities of impersonal facts from the external world, and sort through those facts, making judgments, when they are alone.” (Source: Personality Page)
*Just a small note, I refuse to do any of the other male characters other than Fezco. He’s the only male character in the show that will get a full MBTI profile. This is mostly because of how much trauma I received from the story lines of the other male characters and their violence against women in the show…along with the fact that the rest of the men in the show aren’t deep characters…they’re just extremely problematic. Also because Fezco has more development compared to the rest of them if you actually think about it. I will however go into how problematic some of the story is in the future, in regards to certain representation and how especially this show has become worse with the release of the second season and how its presented that representation to me at least (I hope some people will understand what I’m trying to get at once I post it) Anyways, these are the only Euphoria characters I’ll be doing full length profiles for. Maybe I’ll consider just doing a Nate Jacobs profile in the future?…because somehow I still think his perspective is important even if he is a problematic character. I can do Ethan and McKay and Elliot but I just feel like they haven’t been in the show as much?? For now at least, it’s just going to be these characters. Sorry not sorry.
#Euphoria show series
In 2019, Euphoria was adapted into an American television series of the same title, which premiered on HBO on 16 June 2019. Skins has been named as an influence on the creators of the series. Some of the series plot is based on a true story. Adults appear in the series only rarely, and are always filmed at an angle that obscures their faces. The series follows a group of 17-year-olds who spend their time carelessly having sex and taking drugs, with seemingly no parental authority. Dominic Fike says that Elliot will definitely be back, however.Euphoria ( Hebrew: אופוריה, Oforia) is an Israeli teen drama television miniseries created and written by Ron Leshem and directed by Dafna Levin, broadcast on Hot 3 from 30 November 2012 to 1 February 2013. Ferreira was MIA at the season-two red carpet, further stoking the conjecture.Įuphoria has been renewed for a season three, but few details are known beyond that. Ferreira reportedly walked off set on at least two occasions over the direction her character was taking. Rumors of bad blood between Ferreira and showrunner Sam Levinson abounded - rumors that Ferreira denied. “i hope many of you could see yourself in her like i did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.” Kat became a fan favorite in season one of Euphoria, only to take a backseat in season two. “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” she wrote. No longer will fans finish an episode of Euphoria and go “Wait … was Kat in that one?” Posting on Instagram Stories, Barbie Ferreira said that she was saying good-bye to Euphoria and Kat Hernandez.
Notice Me
Maddy Perez x Reader
Word count: 3.4k
Warnings: Smut [thigh riding, spanking, fingering, face sitting, etc.]
Summary: Maddy Perez was everything that anyone wanted. You'd stare at her every morning when she walked the halls, just like everyone else. Maddy can feel something extra in your gaze, and she is determined to explore it.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Maddy Perez was a prize; one of the metaphorical kinds. The kind you couldn't win or buy, it sort of just fell into your lap.
You hadn't understood why Nate Jacobs paraded her around like she was his favorite accessory. The one he couldn't part with. I mean, she did raise his stock amongst the other girls at high school.
They wanted him because Maddy had him. They wouldn't say that, though, they'd lie and say he's just so fucking hot.
Even the thought of shit like that made you want to barf.
You hated how they walked down the hall hand in hand. It was almost as if it was in slow motion. Her in all of her glory and him leeching off of her.
She was a prize, and you desperately wanted her to fall into your lap.
Your eyes were glued on them, like everyone else's in the hallway. Just like the other days, you drank in her appearance; from the bottom to the top.
You always lingered a little on her lips. They were always coated in that gloss, that drove you so close to crazy.
Today was a little different, because when you finally made it to her eyes, she was already looking at you. You didn’t look away, and for a moment it felt like you couldn't breathe.
" Hello? Y/n?"
You tore your eyes from Maddy to look at Lexi, who had been waving her hand in your face. You shut your locker and gave the girl your full attention.
" What is it, Lex?"
" I wanted to know if you want to come over after school. Cassie is inviting her friends and I want to have someone to talk to."
Your eyes darted up in time to get one last look at Maddy before she disappeared with her boyfriend.
" She'll be there."
You blushed a little, scratching the back of your neck," Sorry Lex."
" It's fine, you've always been obsessed with her. It's nothing new."
" Shut up."
" Obsessed with who?" Lexi's sister interrupted the conversation.
You shook your head," No one, I'm going to class. I'll be there, Lex."
The rest of the school day isn't usually relevant. However, today there has been a little change. You can feel someone watching you in certain classes.
Not every class, but enough to make you feel weird about it. When you go to fifth period the feeling is there again, you finally glance back at who has been staring at you all day.
You turn back to the front of the class classroom just as fast as you had peered back. Maddy Perez had her eyes on you like a hawk, and you had no idea why.
Knowing that it was her made you sweat a little bit more. You wanted to look again to make sure you weren't seeing things. So you turned around again, this time properly meeting her eyes.
You weren't sure what the next move was, but then she smiled at you. It was a small smile, but yet it was so captivating.
" Notes are in front of you, Ms.Y/ln not back there with Ms. Perez."
You rolled your eyes at the teacher's attempt at public humiliation, muttering a not so quiet 'fuck you' under your breath.
"What did you just say, Ms.Y/ln?"
You were about to respond, but then the bell rang and the rest of class packed up their belongings. You smirked at the teacher, doing the same before heading to the next class.
" You're Lexi's friend."
Maddy had fallen in step with you on the way to class. She had done it so naturally, for a second you felt like it was normal.
" And you’re Maddy Perez."
She gives you a once over," What's your name, mami? Or should I just call you Ms.Y/ln."
You chuckle," Y/n is good."
She drags her hand up your arm before turning around," I'll see you later then, Y/n."
She walks away, and you can't help, but to watch her. What the fuck was going on? Maddy Perez had a sudden interest in you, and you had no idea why.
After your last class, you met up with Lexi. You filled her in on what happened between you and Maddy.
" That's weird considering like Nate and everything."
You shrug," Everyone knows they're on and off."
Lexi sighs," You're setting yourself up for heartbreak."
You know she's right," Help me pick up the pieces afterwards?"
She punches you in the arm," Let's go."
You follow the girl to Cassie's car. Maddy, Cassie, and Kat are standing around. The ride to the Howard's was filled with gossip you knew little about.
You didn't keep up with what was going on around the school most of the time. You liked knowing as little as possible, it made the day more bearable.
When you arrived at the house, the group split. You stayed in the living room with Lexi while the others went upstairs.
" Still working on your secret play," you tease Lexi.
She crosses her arms over her chest," It's not a secret, everyone knows about it."
" They don't know what's in it. Hell, I don't even know what's in it."
You see Lexi stiffen just a bit," Do you trust me?"
Her change in demeanor worries you enough for you to grab her hand," With my life, Lex."
She blushes, which isn't unnatural for her," Then I promise that it will all make sense opening night."
" Your play will probably be the best thing to happen in East Highland history. I can just feel it," you squeeze her hand, and she rests her head on your shoulder.
" I hope it is."
Lexi was your rock in many ways. She kept you grounded. She was also one of the only people you felt entirely comfortable around. You never had to hide anything from her. She'd been there for you through all of your highs and lows, and for that you'd always be grateful.
There was a time when you thought that the two of you could be more than friends. You tested the waters, but nothing stayed afloat. You were soulmates, but not on a romantic level.
" You want to go upstairs?"
" So you can try and flirt with Maddy?"
You push her head off of your shoulder," No, I'm actually madly in love with Cassie. How'd you feel about me being your sister-in-law?"
" I'd literally puke," she stands up from the couch, and you follow her lead upstairs.
" So what's up with Lexi's friend," you hear them chatting through the door and stop Lexi from opening it.
" Y/n? She’s like a sour patch kid. Sour then sweet. She likes to play up this big strong loner role, but in reality she's literally a sweetheart. If I liked girls, I'd let her fuck my brains out and take me out to dinner after."
Lexi looked like she could puke hearing Cassie talk about you like that. She reached for the door handle, but you grabbed her wrist and signaled wait.
" You'd probably let her fuck you now," Kat chimed in.
" Ew no, and have Lexi's sloppy seconds."
" Wait, Y/n and Lexi are together?"
You could hear Cassie sighing through the door," Not anymore, they tried it out, but like it was weird. Anyway, why are you even curious?"
" You should see the way she looks at me when I'm with Nate walking down the hallway. Like it's so insanely hot that sometimes I can feel myself getting wet underneath her gaze."
The other girls shriek," Not you wanting Y/n to blow your back out."
" What about Nate?"
" Our relationship isn't healthy, I think I'm going to end it for real this time."
" Because you want Y/n?" Kat teased.
" Shut up."
You and Lexi share a glance. Personally, you can't believe anything you just heard. What the fuck is going on? Maddy Perez, the Maddy Perez, is at least a little into you.
Lexi finally opens the door and the two of you end up plopping down on her bed.
Your eyes land on Maddy and you take your time drinking her in. Since she seemed to like it so much, you even let your tongue swipe your bottom lip before looking away.
The girl’s resumed their conversation as if they weren't just talking about you. You and Lexi fall into your own conversation until the group of girls brings the attention to you.
" Y/n's actually really good at math, she helped me with my statistics before she was even in the class. Right Y/n?"
You hum, not having heard the conversation leading up to this.
" Maddy needs help with her math homework, and I was just telling her that you're good at it," Cassie says, and you nod.
" Let me see what I can do," you made your way out of Lexi's bed and onto the floor with the other girls.
You take a seat next to Maddy and get a good look at her work. It was unintentional, but you were leaning over her shoulder.
" Oh ya, I could definitely help you with this," your breath hits her neck as you speak, and you think you can see her visibly shiver.
" Well, what if we just went downstairs for a bit while you two study," Cassie was already getting out of her bed and yanking Kat up with her.
You looked at Lexi for help, but she was also heading for the door," You guys don't have to."
" Maddy really needs the grade," Kat was able to slip out right before Cassie yanked her into the hall.
Lexi gave you a small smile then closed the door behind them.
Now it was just you and Maddy. The tension was slowly filling the room now that the others were gone.
" Where do you want to start?"
" Do you think I'm attractive, Y/n?"
Your face began to heat up," I uh ya."
Maddy smirks," I know you do. Do you know how I know?"
You shake your head.
Maddy takes a finger and hooks it under your chin," Every day I walk down that hallway hand in hand with my boyfriend. And every single day I catch you staring at me like you want to fuck me. Do you want to fuck me, Y/n?"
She bats her eyelashes at you.
" You have a boyfriend."
" That wasn't my question."
An answer never makes it out of your mouth. Maddy tosses her shirt over her head, leaving you with a full view of her pink lace bra.
Your eyes fought to stay on her eyes, but they kept drifting down to her cleavage. Your hands were twitching in their spot, wanting nothing more than to grab a handful of Maddy's breast.
Maddy giggles, flips her hair to one side, and leans forward, giving you a better view. Her finger trails up your arm for the second time today," If you did want to fuck me. You could."
You felt goosebumps appear under her touch," D- do you want to fuck me?"
Your voice was uncertain. Maddy pushed you flat on your back. She straddled your lap, your hands subconsciously laid on her waist.
She dipped down onto you, her breast resting above your chest. There was a small smirk on her lips," If I did, what would you do about it?"
Your hands trailed up from her waist, they snaked her body, and grabbed a handful of her breasts.
Her back arched at the mere contact. You let your body take control of your movements. Pushing ever thought out of your mind. You took one hand to unclasp her bra.
You smirk as she lets out a little gasp. While still pinned to the floor, you raised up as far as you could. Taking one of her nipples in your mouth.
You watch as her head tilts back, and a deep moan escapes her throat. You shift your focus to her other nipple, swirling your tongue around the bud. Seeing her react makes you even more eager.
Your teeth scrape lightly against the nub, tugging at it playfully before releasing it.
Maddy's eyes are hooded as they peer down at you.
" I would do something like that."
Maddy pulls you up by your shirt, smashing her lips against yours. You moan instantly as tongue finds its way into your mouth. She keeps a tight grip on your shirt.
The kiss was so intense that Maddy was unaware of your nimble fingers finding their way under her skirt. You dip a single finger between her folds, collecting a glob of wetness.
She whines, breaking the kiss. When she pulls away, you retract your hand from her pants. You keep eye contact as you stick the finger that had been through her folds into your mouth.
You close your eyes and suck on the finger. The flavor is indescribable, but addictive nonetheless. When there are no remnants of the woman on your fingers, the finger leaves your mouth with an extravagant pop.
You pat the back of her thighs, hoping she would take the hint. She stripped herself of her panties, but left the skirt on.
You groaned at the sight of her bare pussy. There wasn't a moment to waste, you yanked Maddy so that her pussy was dripping right into your mouth.
She was going to make some type of smart remark, but the next words to leave her mouth were," Fuck, Y/n."
You yearned to taste every last drop of her arousal. Her hands were in your hair, forcing your face into her crotch.
" Do I taste good, baby?"
The vibration from your hum only makes her let out a pleasurable laugh. One of her hands slips out of your hand and onto the zipper of your pants. You raise your hips, allowing her to tug the pants down your legs.
One of her fingers prodded your entrance," Fuck, licking my pussy has you this wet, baby? I could just slip a finger into that hole with no prep."
She follows through with her words and slips a finger inside of you. You suck her clit with a little more ferocity than before, to stifle your reaction.
You up the pressure by sticking two fingers inside of her, while your tongue focuses on her clit. She begins to squeeze your head with her thighs. It only pushes you to do more.
She adds another finger and begins pumping into you like a maniac. You cry out into her pussy in pleasure. Finally, you start to feel light-headed. You squeeze the outside of her thigh, and she reluctantly raises off of you.
You gasp for air as you feel her essence pooling around your mouth. Instead of wiping it with your hand, you swirl your tongue around the outside of your mouth, collecting as much of her as you could.
Maddy is eager to taste herself on your lips. Kissing you, the moment you caught your breath. You wrap both your arms around her waist, locking her into you.
Her knee ends up pressed against your core, causing you to jolt. Maddy chuckles as she trails sloppy kisses up your neck," I want you to cum all over my pretty little knee."
Maddy had been in control up until this point. You heard her earlier conversation, she wanted you to fuck her silly. Which meant, you'd be taking control.
You quickly flipped her on her stomach. She was in your lap, ass up in the air.
" I heard you talking about me. Wanting me to fuck your brains out," you give her ass a firm smack," So I think you'll be the one cumming on my knee. Any objections?"
She opened her mouth to say something, but you smacked her ass again, this time with a little more force. Maddy positioned her ass higher in the air, loving the rough attention.
" You're so good for me," another rough hand slams down on Maddy's backside," I think 5 more will coat that pussy nicely for my thigh."
The 1st slap is the hardest, the sound echoing around the room, Maddy almost jumped out of your arms. The second one was lighter, but still stung. You rubbed are red ass before the third hit, cracking across the soft flesh as if it were a whip.
A cry left Maddy's lips, and you could see the tears pooling in her eyes, the worst part of you wanting those tears to spill over.
You left a feather like kiss on the irritated skin before the fourth smack, this time Maddy let out a deep moan as the tears finally spilled out of her eyes.
" My god, you're such a pretty little crier, baby. You could be a movie star."
The final smack was light, barely even marking the area.
You sat back with your palms digging into the floor of the bedroom. You repositioned Maddy so that she was sitting on one of your thighs.
Her eyes lasered in on yours. She began to slowly grind back and forth on your leg. Her hips slowly swirling to drive you crazy. The way her body twisted for you. Her hands planted themselves into her own hair, as she moaned loudly.
She looked angelic as she fucked herself on your leg. You couldn't help, but groan as she began pressing down harder on your leg. She was even making the effort to make her knee just barely hit your core.
" Fuck, Maddy," she consistently began to use her knee to cause a blissful friction for you, as she dragged her pussy on your leg.
You could feel her begin to shake, your hand grabbed her hips so that she kept her pace. Her breathing became shallow. She was searching for your lips and found them.
It was an open-mouthed sloppy kiss. One that was meant to suppress the animalistic sound of her climax. She was clinging on to you. Her skin was hot and so was yours. You were just as close as she was.
She all but yelled into your mouth and her body started to spasm. At the same time, you feel a pit build up in your stomach, not hesitating to use your own fingers to capture your release.
Maddy's fingers were faster than yours. Even as she rode out her own high, she assaulted your clit with her fingers. You felt your hips lift off of the ground, and then it was all over.
Your back hit the floor, your hands steady on Maddy, helping her come down from her high. Your breathing was trying its best to return to normal.
" Ms.Y/ln you're amazing," Maddy smiles brightly at you.
" You're better," your eyes still rake over her body with hunger.
" If you keep looking at me like that, we won't make it out of this room."
You go to reply, but the door opens. The energy to scramble for your clothes is gone. Instead, you both just keep your positions.
" Did you finish the workshe- holy shit !" Lexi was the first one to see the scene inside the room.
" What? Did they fuc- Oh my god, they totally fucked in our room," her reaction summoned Cassie to the sight.
" Get it, Maddy," Kat cheered from right behind Lexi.
" Put some clothes on please," Lexi had a hand half covering her eyes.
You and Maddy laugh, but nonetheless get dressed. You go to hand Maddy her panties, but she just shoves them in your pocket.
" You can use them, when you think about me," she pecks your lips.
" I'm always thinking about you."
She chuckles," Good, I want you to keep that energy when you see me at school."
Thoughts of Nate Jacobs cross your mind, causing you to frown. Lexi was right, this was a dangerous game you were playing.
" Hey, look at me," your eyes return to Maddy's.
" I'm done with him. For good this time. Which means, it's you and me. Fuck anyone who's got a problem with that," She pecks your lips again, causing you to smile.
" So I'll see you tomorrow, then?"
She gives you a playful look," Yes, Ms. Y/ln."
With that she's gone, Cassie takes her home. Lexi offers to do the same for you. She couldn't hold in any of her questions about Maddy. The whole ride is spent describing in detail what happened in that room.
" At least it wasn't on the bed," Lexi has some relief about it.
" Lex, I think this will go the distance," you were serious, and your tone conveyed that.
Lexi glanced at you and then back to the road.
" For your sake, I hope it does."
You could likely track the number of hours listening to Lexi complain about high school. Her desire to live the life that your peers do rides the line of naive and neurotic. Each of the East Highland members that she could name, including her own sister Cassie you are certain you could explain why their life was not desirable. Rue struggles with addiction, Cassie's with men, and Maddy's with Nate Jacobs. No matter how much anyone thought their lives were private, the whispers always made their way to your lilac iPhone. Unlike Lexi, you are sure your high school experience thus far has been more than enough. Ironically you live by a warning from your father; he said if you spread yourself too thin, you will never stick. His worries of you not connecting with your peers prove to have unforeseen consequences. You do not care for drama—you do not want to stick. Hence you joined every club possible in the second half of your freshman year. In your junior year, you find yourself as your class President, secretary of student activities board, and treasure of community outreach. This does not cover your membership of clubs such as tutoring, photography, and many other school activities. Why? Spread yourself too thin, and you will never stick.
The bell-ringing makes you flinch awake as your peers scatter to exit the room. You barely pay attention as Mrs. Hoffman asks Nate to stay behind. Sending Tiktoks to Lexi until three in the morning proves to be a terrible idea. Your zombie-like movements leave you at the front of the now almost bare room. The realization of this makes you move in a slight panic, fumbling your feminine products pouch, it lands into your tote bag by the grace of God. You are sure you look silly as you hold your tote bag close, practically running toward the door. Your frantic state makes you miss the first time Mrs. Hoffman calls out to you.
"Miss (L/n)!" You freeze in the classroom doorway, the late bell rings, and the last few students scatter off. Nate sits on a desk in the front row with his arms crossed when you turn around. He glares daggers at Mrs. Hoffman, who stands with a calm demeanor.
"Uh—yes?" Your gaze bounces between Nate and Mrs. Hoffman cautiously. Finally, she smiles, and you realize the silence carries her expectation for you to re-enter the room. You settle on standing next to the desk closest to the door. Mrs. Hoffman's smile does not falter as she seemingly reminds you of your own membership in the peer tutor club. "With all due respect, I have another class, so are you reaching a point Mrs. Hoffman?"
"Of course. You're one of my star students Miss (L/n), and Mr. Jacobs is not. If you could please work with him for the duration of this class, I could offer you extra credit for it," She says, shifting on the balls of your feet you could barely recall the last time the two of you spoke. As you try, your mind goes back to the eighth grade when he complimented your freshly braided hair. His words were cool hair. Though it was so simple, you had been anxious about your new look before the interaction. Nate's glare shifts into a stoic expression as they wait for you to say something. The central air becomes of interest as it happens to be the loudest thing outside of the sounds from other classrooms.
"Yeah—uh um, we could do that. If you're comfortable, of course," You bounce onto the tips of your toes and then back onto the balls of your feet. The two braids that frame your face become the focus of your vision as they swing forward.
"Yeah, whatever," He says, rolling his eyes as he rises from the desk. If giving a short synopsis of what Mrs. Hoffman said after that would save your life, you would be screwed. It does not get any better when she releases you from the uncomfortable interaction. Both you and Nate walk down the hall in silence; you are unsure if you should say anything.
"I'm pretty busy today, but you could just Snap me, and we could figure out a meeting time," You speak so quietly that Nate's lack of a reaction convinces you he did not hear. He turns down the English hall calling out he would text you soon. Arriving at your next class, you apologize as all eyes sit on you; your seat in the front next to Lexi remains unoccupied.
Lex✨: No way you show up late to class, spill👀
You only glance at the text before turning your attention to the front of the room. Despite ignoring Lexi's text, you carry every intention of telling her everything at lunch. The idea of interacting with Nate Jacobs over an extended period seems like a phantom zone. His machismo attitude and open misogyny only add to the unspoken rift between the two of you. The class drones on just like the last, and you ignore the looks Lexi throws your way.
Unknown number: My house tonight at 6
The bell-ringing does take your attention as you frown at your cell phone. But, of course, you know exactly what the text means, but how did he get your number?
"You coming?" Lexi nudges your shoulder as she stands next to your desk in the now empty room. You nod, still frowning as you gather your things.
"I'm having a weird day Lex," You huff, wrapping your arm around her as you both exit the classroom.
"What's wrong?" She says, mirroring your actions, the two of you move in sync. The easy-going nature between you leaves your peers guessing the nature of your friendship.
"Mrs. Hoffman is giving me extra credit to tutor Nate Jacobs," You explain as the two of you jump into the lunch line. Lexi wastes no time pointing out you were more than likely getting caught up in his and Maddy's whirlwind drama.
"Want me to see if Cassie can stop anything before it starts," Grabbing chocolate milk, you shake your head, wanting to cross that bridge when or if it arrives. You unlock your phone, handing it to Lexi. The text message from the unknown number sits with the time stamp.
"How'd he get your number?" She questions, but you shrug, muttering exactly as you eye up the options of the day. Pasta loaded with tomato sauce and cheese or pizza. You settle on a slice of pizza and grab a banana by the register. After paying, you both move to your usual table, the cafeteria bustling with students. No singular table takes the limelight as the volume stays even.
"And ugh, Miss DePaulo assigned this ten-page paper with the vaguest rubric. She didn't even include the format, and I'm just so behind on it—ugh," Running your hands over your face, Lexi frowns. She explains having a class with the same teacher the year prior.
"Her rubrics are always vague, but then when grading comes around, you suddenly see criteria she never listed. Nice woman but very unorganized teacher," Lexi shrugs as you take a bite of your pizza. You ramble aimlessly only to find Lexi not paying any attention. Instead, she stares at Rue and the newer girl Jules, who giggle like small children. When you move your gaze back to Lexi, her downcast eyes and longing look makes you frown.
"Hey, don't stress it. We're nothing but good friends to Rue. Maybe this Jules girl is good for her," Your suggestion only earns a slow nod before she looks away from them. Lunch carries on lightly for the most part. Before you know it, you are home to an empty house. Both your parents usually make it home around five. Your mother sometimes even later when her clients need her. While your father works in an accounting office, he has never been home later than five.
Walking up the stairs, you focus closely on picking out every yellow skittle from the bag. In your room, you toss the bag of multicolored skittles in the trash before placing the yellows in the tiny bowl on your desk. Tossing your tote bag on your bed, you reach for another yellow skittle. Lexi never misses a beat in pointing out your wasteful habit, and your mother found it to be silly. It did not matter, though; you would refuse to eat the other color skittles or any other candy even as a child.
You put your headphones in as you open up your iPad and work on your paper. The first twenty consist of you sucking on a skittle and watching TikTok's on your phone. After that, Jhene Aiko plays full blast in your ears as you truly start your paper, when you reach halfway through the Souled Out album a yawn leaves your lips. You do your best to follow the rubric while also keeping a close eye out for grammatical and spelling errors.
"Hey gopher," Your Dad speaks at the perfect time in between songs. He kisses the side of your head while placing down a sandwich on your desk.
"Thanks, Dad. How was work?" He jumps on the opportunity to take one of your skittles. You roll your eyes at him, but he only laughs before whining about something at work. Only about a quarter of it, you could understand.
"I'm tutoring one of my classmates for extra credit. Is it okay if I go over at six? I'll be home before dinner," Nodding his head, your father asks who you are tutoring. You consider lying to him for a second, but the way you pause brings an awkwardness to the air. "Nate Jacobs. He's gonna fail Statistics if I don't help him."
"Cal Jacobs kid, the quarterback, right?" Your father questions, and you shrug, glancing at the clock. A good amount of time still sits between you and when you need to leave. You cannot figure out why but a realization dawns upon you, where the hell does Nate Jacobs live?
You: hey what's your addy?
He texts back almost immediately, and you put a thumbs up on the text. Then, still staring at the text, you frown, changing his contact name from Unknown to Nate with a football emoji.
"Aiming high, are we?" Your father jokes, and you nearly forget he stands over your shoulder.
"Dad!" You whine, throwing a skittle at him, but he only catches it. He pops the skittle into his mouth before reaching into his pocket and revealing a new bag of skittles.
"Got it for you on the way home," He kisses your temple again before leaving your room. You call out a thank you before biting at your sandwich while deciding what notes to bring. Time ticks by as if it's racing something, and you park across the street from his house. Fiddling with your fingers as you walk toward his door, the lights and parked cars bring you ease, knowing you will not be alone.
You: if I die, Nate Jacobs did it
Lex✨: if u die Madeline Perez did it
You knock twice; the first time, you knock way too soft. No answer. The second time comes with more effort, and you freeze as his mother answers.
"Why hello, can I help you, dear?" She asks. You do your best to ignore the massive wave of anxiety that builds high in your chest.
"I'm tutoring Nate in Statistics," You say, holding up your tote bag. His mother introduces herself as Marsha, explaining Nate was in the shower. She invites you inside, almost giddy as his father rounds the corner.
"Cal Jacobs," He says, holding out his hand, and you take it. You almost flinch at the firmness of his handshake.
"(Y/n) (L/n)," You say, and just like your father, Cal tilts his head.
"Terrance (L/n) 's daughter?" He asks, and you nod. You try to push back the feeling of your face expressing your thoughts. Cal rambles on about your attendance at Nate's fourth birthday party. You cannot remember a single thing he speaks of, but he gushes over his own and your father's shared love of football. Marsha offers you something to drink which you kindly decline. Before Cal can continue, Nate enters the living room.
"We can work in my room," It takes you back how Nate does not acknowledge his parents. He stares at you with downcast eyes before turning around. You hesitate for a second before following him. He moves things from his desk as you wait for further instructions in his doorway.
"You can sit here," He says, pulling up a second chair. Nodding your head, you sit down as he grabs his notebook. "You know you're gonna have to speak if you're going to save me from failing."
"Sorry, I'm just kind of spacey today. How about you show me your class notes? This way we can see where you are struggling," You suggest, but the reality appears much worse than what you imagined. His notes consist of doodles and words he wrote from the slides. Instead of focusing on the material itself, you focus on the issue's root. Nate's note-taking skills are below average, taking information and making it easy to understand.
"—Okay, but how can I write out steps or answers in my own words? She changes the slides so quickly," Nate questions, smiling lightly; you make sure to tell him that it's a good question.
"Think of it like football. Trust me, I don't know much, but when that whistle blows and the balls in your hand, you don't have much time, right?" You explain, and he nods; you easily tie his beloved sport to school, "Which means once you have that ball, you just have to try to make the best possible decision. Same with note-taking, you're prioritizing."
"So, what will help me best?" Nodding your head, you offer your hand up for a high five. Nate ignores your hand, looking between his own and your notes. Reaching into the skittles bag from your father, you pick out two more yellows before placing them on the desk. "What's that about?"
Nate observes you as you put a yellow skittle in your mouth. You shrug your shoulders, "Yellow is my favorite."
Many of your sessions go like this as you both agree to meet Mondays and Wednesdays. By the second week, Maddy pays you a visit by your locker. Her invasive questions, silly conclusions, and bitchy banter do nothing other than make you uncomfortable. Nate only learns about the encounter during week three of your sessions.
You talk him through Z-scores and Pearsons-r in your current session. Like always, his mother offers you something to drink, and his father attempts to talk your ear off. Mid explanation, Nate's gaze moves from the paper onto your face. His deep voice takes you by surprise as he cuts you off, "Sorry about Maddy. I heard she bothered you; I talked to her about but—it's complicated."
"No worries. I had a feeling she would pop up eventually, so it didn't bother me much," You say, shrugging your shoulders. As Nate says nothing, you reach into your tote bag, revealing an unopened bag of skittles. "Want the remains after I get my yellows?"
"Yeah sure," The two of you get back into the material. You quiz him on conceptual questions as Mrs. Hoffman has an exam scheduled for Thursday. When Nate enters class, you watch as he rolls his shoulders back. Beyond that, you cannot see him as you sit in the very front. The exam feels light with a good mix of practice problems and concept questions. That weekend, the football team played an away game that went amazing, from what you hear. Your Dad gushes about how good the team plays. His devotion and love for the team show his apparent desire for a son.
When Monday rolls around, you always arrive at Nate's house on time. His mother tells you he's upstairs in his room. You tap on his room door lightly, warning him it's you.
"Come in," He calls out; walking in, he sits with a big grin on his face. On the desk sits his laptop, which he moves so you can see it better. The screen reveals his grades in statistics; his previous exam grade being forty-seven percent, looks odd against his recent seventy-one percent.
"That's awesome, Nate!" You exclaim, grinning ear to ear. He chuckles; you realize you never indeed heard him laugh. Though you had seen him smile before, this was the first time that it appeared genuine. As well as the first time his smile was with you.
"No way I could get this far without you," He says, but you shake your head, promising he can do this.
"How about you take the night off then. You deserve it," You suggest. He shakes his head, and you both pause as his mother calls out that dinners ready.
"Come on," He says; rising from his desk chair, he opens his room door. You know this will only lead to you eating dinner with the Jacobs. Every part of this feels like a bad idea, but you still sit.
"So (Y/n), what's your plans after high school?" Marsha asks, explaining your goal of continuing women in stem; you talk about your engineering dreams.
"Hopefully, get into Stanford on a scholarship," You quietly relish in the buttery taste of the asparagus. However, Marsha made it makes you melt.
"I actually know a good portion of the faculty at Stanford. So I could put in a good word," Cal says, and your head shoots up as your eyes widen.
"I would never ask you to do that," You speak as if words are running out. Cal laughs at your flustered state.
"You're not, I'm offering. I hear you're class President and well on your way to Valedictorian, so why not?" Cal says, and you glance at Nate. You are uncertain if he told his father about you or if his father had gone looking. Either way, you note the way he glares daggers at his father. Nate stays silent the entire dinner until you announce you should head home. He walks you to the door, not breaking his calm demeanor.
"Could you text me just so I know you got home okay?" Nodding your head, you try not to think about his request too much. When you arrive home, you shoot the text, but it leaves your mind as your parents' wedding song plays loudly in the house. In the kitchen, your parents slow dance, and you notice the half-empty wine bottle on the counter. You consider announcing your arrival but instead tiptoe up to your room. The moment feels too intimate to intrude on; your lava lamp illuminates your darkroom with variations of purple on the wall. You drop onto your bed, closing your eyes as your breathing centers. The ding of your phone makes you bend your arm at a funny angle rather than sitting up to grab it. You cringe as the glow shines too bright in your eyes.
Nate🏈: sorry about my parents
You: sorry?? Theyre so nice
Nate🏈: u would say that🙄
Nate🏈: oh and u forgot your bag of skittles no promises of their survival
You sit up on your elbow, narrowing your eyes at the playful nature of the texts. Chewing on your bottom lip, you consider not responding but a nag pecks at your temple.
You: Wat does that mean??
You: And count. Your. Days.
Nate🏈: u dont have a mean bone in your body
You: u know nothing
"Hey, kiddo," Your mom taps on your door as she opens and you lock your phone. With a slight smile on your lips, you cross your legs, patting a spot on the bed. She joins you, asking about how your day went.
"Same as always," You shrug, playing with the tips of your hair. She points out she saw Rue today—you completely forgot to tell either of your parents that she was out of rehab.
"Well, I'm glad she's okay. I wanted to know if you still wanted to do the formal dinner for your Birthday," Nodding your head, you agree on sushi and business wear for dinner. "Are you gonna invite Rue?"
"Uh—she has some new friend now. I don't really wanna bother her. It'll probably just be Lexi and us," You explain and your mother frowns but nods her head, she voices as long as you are happy with that, but you reassure her.
"You may be a Libra, but your Pisces moon is clearly dominant. My little introvert," She says, pulling you into her arms; she gives you rapid-fire kisses. You whine, telling her to stop and your father's laugh reaches your ears from the doorway.
"Alright enough. I love you guys goodnight," You shuffle to the top of your bed, holding out a pillow to place something between yourself and your mother. She only laughs, joining your father at the doorway.
"We love you, Gopher," Your father says before flicking on the light and leaving the door open. A huff leaves you as you only ever asked for two things: to close your door on the way out and for your father to stop turning the light on.
The next day in class, you struggle to keep your eyes open as you sit with your head in your hands and your body angled toward the class. You have a good view of the room in your peripheral, but this does not matter as you stare off aimlessly. The vibration of your phone in your pocket makes you flinch; you glance up at Mrs. Hoffman. Her back faces the class as she talks and works through a practice problem.
Nate🏈: class president (Y/n) (L/n) sleeping in stats??!
Nate🏈: not only are pigs gonna fly today, the world is def gonna fall into black hole
You bite back the smile that burns on your cheeks; glancing back, Nate stares forward with a smirk. As Mrs. Hoffman looks back at the class for some student engagement, you raise your hand as no one dares to.
"You add them all up to get the sum of squares, and then you average it to get the variance. Unless we're doing um—I can't remember exactly when, but you subtract one from the quantity and then divide," You explain, leaning back; Lexi makes a face at you. The two of you share a silent giggle as Mrs. Hoffman continues on. Back on your phone, you grin as you type away.
You: so ur watching me…?
You: yikes, creepy😳
You watch him in the corner of your eye as he goes on his phone. A quiet chuckle leaves him as read appears under your messages. You click out of the messages and watch the type icon sit next to his name.
Lex✨: suspicious smile and texting…interesting
You: okayy weirdo 😮‍💨
Lexi reads your text as you side-eye her with a lopsided grin. When she looks up at you, she rolls her eyes before Mrs. Hoffman asks you both to share with the class. Both of you stare like deer in headlights.
"Suspicious smiling and texting, interesting. Sorry Mrs. Hoffman," Lexi says, putting her phone away before the patronizing gaze shifts to you.
"Okay, weirdo. Sorry Mrs. Hoffman," You put your phone in your tote bag beneath the desk as she explains her phone policy. It's two strikes, and you are out policy; if she saw your phones again, they would be confiscated until the end of the day.
When the bell finally rings, you and Lexi are the first out of the classroom. Lexi does not hesitate to ask who you were texting when you roll your eyes. If you say, Nate, you know it will become something you do not want it to.
"My Mom is just texting me about some outfits she thinks I would like for my birthday dinner. Which is at six on my Birthday," The lie rolls off your tongue like honey, and any guilt you feel, you immediately bury. Lexi describes the light blue pencil skirt and matching blazer she has planned. "These next two weeks are going to be torture. I have this super cute apricot crop blazer and pants, and I'm going to wear a white bodysuit with it."
"That colors going to look amazing on you!" Lexi exclaims as she chooses the grilled chicken and whole-grain roll. You eye the salad that comes with it, you plan to break up the meat and make a chicken salad. The fruit cups near the register greets you, and you happily grab it.
"We're eating sushi. Any roll requests. I can send you the menu from the restaurant we're ordering from," You suggest, but she shrugs, assuring you that she's not a picky person.
"Hey, you should come to the football game with me Friday," She suggests, chuckling; you shake your head as your eyes fall on Nate's tall figure. Maddy walks next to him with her everyday power strut. When she meets your gaze, you turn back to Lexi.
"My Dad would expect us to sit with him, and he gets excited at the games. I don't know," You shrug as Lexi explains your father's no different than any of the other men who go. She invites you over to her house to hang out before the game when you finally agree.
The halls fill with the rumor of Kat Hernandez, you refuse to watch the video that circulates, but everyone knows with certainty it's Kat. So when you pass her in the hall, you pay her little attention, the idea of people watching and whispering makes your skin crawl. So you make it a point to not play into it.
When your Wednesday session arrives, you fail to ignore the jitter in your chest as you drive to Nate's house. His mother greets you like always, but something feels off; your smile does not falter despite seeing how her smile does not reach her eyes. She tells you Nate should be in his room before leaving you to your own devices. When you get up the stairs, you tap on the cracked door, poking your head in; Nate sits on his phone.
"Hey," You call out, but he says nothing, still typing away on his phone. As you take out your notebook and settle at his desk, you note the bruising of his knuckles. The sigh that leaves him fills the silence, and the aggression leaves you with an uneasy feeling. Finally, he slams his phone down on his nightstand, making you flinch back and your body halts.
"Sorry about that" He watches how you still do not move as you eye the phone and then him. For a second, all of your mother's cautionary tales run through your mind, but it fades as Nate tosses you a baggy. The yellow skittles you forgot from Monday sit in your lap, and the playful energy returns.
"Healthy thing you going there," You tease, opening up the bag popping one into your mouth. Nate's eyes widen, and for a second, you think you have crossed a line, but he just smirks.
"Pot meet kettle. No way you talk about health and eat candy on a daily," He says; rolling your eyes, you turn to your notes. You can see Nate's progress as clear as day; by now, he could take on the final and just barely touch the seventy percent threshold. This estimate you base off his average of around fifty-five percent on previous exams and the improvement he has shown with you. You blink back into reality as he waves in his hand in front of your face, "Anyone home? Is this right?"
You carefully follow his work throughout the problem, you near the end of it where you find the first mistake. This bleeds into the rest of the problem creating a ripple effect. He now sits at the desk as you lean over his shoulder; about halfway through your explanation, you stumble over your words. The faint tickle of his breath as he watches you closely sends your mind into mental lag. You silently thank the heavens that your phone dings pulling you away from the desk.
"I should get going. I have some things to work on," The picture reveals Lexi showing her outfit for your birthday dinner; you heart it before locking your phone. You gather your things, shoving them in your tote bag carelessly.
"Already? Party pooper," He teases as you pull your jacket on, sticking your tongue out at him. As you walk toward his door, he rises to his feet, promptly following behind you.
"Keep it up, Jacobs, and I might actually have to worry about Maddy trying to kill me," You joke, walking up to his front door; he easily towers over you with a smile on his lips.
"I won't let anything happen to you. I promise," He says, and you know it's wrong, the way he makes your stomach flip. Many things about Nate are off-putting, and you know this. Alone though it feels like someone entirely new, you pride yourself in having everyone accurately pegged; how did you fail to see this?
"Goodnight," You say; looking down at your feet, you offer an awkward wave that earns a chuckle. Anxiety tickles every single one of your muscles as you become hyper-aware of your movements. You are sure Nate watches you from the window next to his front door.
The rest of the week carries on in stolen glances and silly text exchanges. You have a sneaking suspicion that Lexi's catching onto your endless amounts of excuses for smiling at your phone. When Friday night finally arrives, your father's excitement for the game becomes the focal point of your night. He happily buys you both walking tacos and a hotdog for himself. You expect him to urge you both to join him in the stands, but he encourages you both to sit in the student section. Your mother texts in the family group chat she's parking, but you leave your father to his own devices.
The cheerleaders stand directly in front of the student section; the band plays Fireball by Pitbull on your right. You both sit three rows from the front, and like many others, you stand on the bleachers. Lexi waves to her sister as you watch Nate run off the field and defense run on. He takes his helmet off, grabbing a bottle of water; Coach joins his side, showing him the whiteboard. This lasts for a few seconds before he looks at the cheerleader and then up at the stands. When he meets your gaze, you give a small, he looks away from you, but you catch the smile on his lips.
"I saw that," Lexi points out with knowing eyes, but you tell her she saw nothing, "I bet your phone would say otherwise."
"Lex, it's not like that," You say but chuckles as she questions the defensiveness. She reassures you that you owe her no explanation if it happens to be more than platonic.
"Maybe it could be good for him. What he has now is smoke, and where there is smoke, there is fire," She says, looking from Maddy front and center with the cheerleaders to Nate, who awaits his return to the field. They win the game with an explosive touchdown in the last thirty seconds. The student section jumps and stomps all over the bleachers in violent roars. You wince and giggle at how loud the band plays in your ears. Also, how many of your peers who barely even spare you a glance chat with you as if you are all long-time buddies. Though fleeting, the moment leaves a warmth in your chest; it's much more than you ever expected to get from a football game.
Like all the others, the Monday session carries on; he even teases you about the football game. He confidently accuses you of attending just for him, as you never in your nearly three years of high school attended a football game. The playfulness continues, but you note how he often texts away on his phone.
"Dude, I think Cohen's D is a little more important right now. Maddy can wait," You point out, and he pauses mid text as he looks up at you. A glint shines in his eyes as he stares at you with a lopsided grin.
"Jealous much?" Offering him a pointed look, you take the eraser on his desk, throwing it at him. He sends out a final text before putting his phone down and focusing. The Wednesday session goes no differently. As he walks you out, rather than being a stammering idiot, you tell him how the next Monday session would not be happening.
"My birthday is Monday. I've never really liked doing much for my Birthday, so we're doing a formal wear sushi dinner," You explain, and his eyebrows pull knit as he questions the formal aspect. Shrugging your shoulders, you shift your weight between your left and right leg, "I like business clothes. Makes me feel powerful."
"I get that. That's actually pretty cool," He says, letting you step out of his front door; he places one hand at the top of the doorframe. You steal a quick glance as he hangs over you with his attention entirely on you. If someone were to ask, you would not be able to explain why the following words leave you.
"You could come if you want. It's at six at my place, uh—that's weird, isn't it? Uh, just forget I said anything," You chuckle at yourself, but your stomach twists in knots as you want to run to your car or be run over by your car.
"Not weird at all," He smiles down at you, and it eases a little bit of the anxiety resting in your chest.
"You could bring Maddy if that makes it less weird," You suggest, but he points out bringing her would make it weird. Her attitude and demand for attention would likely cast negative energy all over your birthday dinner. You offer a timid goodnight before going to your car. When you get home, you close your bedroom door and continue trying to convince yourself he would not come anyway. You move toward your window; your old jewelry box sits beneath the windowsill. Beneath the top sits, the blunt Fezco previously rolled for you and the multicolored lighter. You check to make sure your room door's locked before throwing down a towel at the bottom of it. Pushing the window, you light the blunt bringing it up to your lips. This secret pleasure being the only thing in your life that's only your own—not even Lexi knows you smoke. You are aware technically, you share this secret with Fezco, but that's beside the point. In the middle of your smoke, you light the eucalyptus candle on your desk. You move the towel from the door and wait a few minutes before blowing out the candle and turning on your oil diffuser. In your closet, you settle on the sour cream and onion chips as you are all out of your giant bag of skittles. Turning on your television, you watch New Girl until you wake up the following day with your television now off and the bag of chips empty.
You and Lexi go on and on about the carnival happening that night at school. You cannot pretend that you are not excited; your parents plan to walk around as well but promise not to bother you. When the day ends, you get ready at Lexi's house. You keep a smile on your face despite Lexi's mother being clearly intoxicated as she greets you. Upstairs in her shared room, Cassie's already long gone, likely with Maddy.
"I love your style," Lexi gushes as she stares at her own in the mirror. You wear tan baggy sweats but not baggy where you drown in them. The crop top you wear shows a little bit of your stomach and compliments the sweatpants being only a shade lighter. You tie it all together with a white bomber jacket and converse. Around your neck sits a dainty gold chain that you pair with little gold hoops.
"You have such a cute style, though," You remind her, but she appears uncertain with her denim overalls and white long sleeve undershirt. The two of you listen to music and chat about nothing in particular as you both wait for the sun to go down. Once it had, the two of you arrived at the carnival smiling at all the lights. You get on about three rides and play two games before Lexi says she needs to use the bathroom. She leaves you next to the ring toss booth. Both hands in your jacket pocket, you bounce on your feet as you patiently wait. In the corner of your eyes, you catch someone moving fast; the pensive look on his face and tension between his shoulders almost deter you from saying anything—keyword, almost.
"Hey, Nate!" You call out, waving to him as he scans for who called his name. A smile takes over his features as he spots you. Before you know it, his tall figure stands in front of you. "Having fun?"
"Yeah. Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" He questions; smiling up at him, you shrug your shoulders. Your mind notes that you were not aware that he would want to know, but you settle on smiling like an idiot. "You should come by the booth, say hi to my folks."
"That's okay. Plus, I'm waiting for Le—"Your attempts to say no dissolve into nothing as he brings his arm around you. He goes on about how his parents love you and how you would love their chili. "Nate, I really should wait."
"Aw, come on, please. You look really beautiful, and you've been helping me out. Let me treat you to chili," He pleads; glancing at the bathrooms, you text Lexi and tell yourself a few minutes will not hurt anything. Had you known he and Maddy were arguing just seconds earlier, you likely would have stayed to yourself.
"(Y/n)!" Marsha exclaims, pulling you into a hug as Cal welcomes you. He immediately begins making you a bowl of chili while his wife introduces you to her other son Aaron. The interaction between you and Aaron happens swiftly; he says hello but does not spare you a glance.
Lex✨: Well arent u just the supportive gf
You: not funny🙄
You: where r u?? Ur my excuse to leave the booth
The read receipt stares back at you, and you can practically hear Lexi laughing at you. Nate joins your side, asking if you are alright; locking your phone, you nod profusely. Your parents stop by the booth buying a cup of chili, chatting away with Marsha and Cal.
"Mr and Mrs (L/n). Hi, I'm Nate. Your daughter is a lifesaver," Nate introduces himself with a honey-sweet smile. He shakes your father's hand and kisses your mothers. It's obvious your parents love every second of the interaction. They move out of the way as the chili cook winner gets announced. You try to exit the booth once all eyes fall onto the Jacobs family, but Nate wraps his arm around you for the picture.
The crowd cheers happily, and your smile falters as you make eye contact with Maddy. Her claps are slow and almost ominous as she glares daggers at your head. Nate follows your gaze, and you inhale sharply as she struts over. You pull away from Nate, backing away like a cowering animal.
"Yeah, I'm not supposed to be here right now because I'm dressed like a hooker, and none of you like me. But I wanted to say congratulations," Maddy silences the crowd as she reaches the booth. Her eyes are no longer on you, but you can feel the way your presence only fans the flames. Nate tells her to leave, but instead, her hand comes up onto one of the pots of chili, knocking it down. The crowd's no help as they 'ooh' at her behavior.
"What in God's name is your problem?" Marsha exclaims, but Maddy's far from done.
"You, cunt!" She exclaims as Nate rushes out of the booth, grabbing her by her forearm and pulling her away. His face was redder than you had ever seen anyone's, and his stride fast as Maddy's little legs struggled to keep up. Strangely enough, it's much like how you imagine her attending your birthday dinner. Wreaking havoc on everything and everyone she does not like. You bend down to help Aaron clean up, but Marsha assures you that they got it—lingering for another few minutes, you decide to join your parents. The three of you walk in a state of shock, the last few minutes feeling unreal almost. You find Lexi buying fried Oreos, splitting from your parents; you recount the entire story to Lexi.
"No freaking way. I passed her when she was heading that way. I knew I should've followed," She says, admitting she was watching how Nate kissed up to your parents. You roll your eyes and mutter; you think you have had your fill of Nate Jacobs and Maddy Perez's drama. That night you sleepover at Lexi's, the two of you eat snacks watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The next day Lexi joins you at your house; the two of you settle on Wii sports for a few hours. You both receive invites to Daniel's Halloween party coming up not long after.
"Since when do I get invited to parties?" You question, and Lexi carefully lines up her bowling ball as she questions, what do you mean? "You always end up inviting me, but no one ever just texts me to invite me to a party."
"Guess that's what happens when you're Nate Jacob's little girlfriend," She says; getting a strike, she does an embarrassing celebratory dance. It makes you wonder how she gets invited to said parties in question.
"Whatever. What are you going as?" You question, and Lexi squeals with excitement as she explains her Bob Ross costume. After explaining the few things that she has purchased, she redirected your question back to you. Though you do not want to admit it, you have been thinking about costumes and decided on one weeks ago.
"I was thinking an Umpire. I have black spandex, a black cap, and I could expedite the shipping on the shirt and socks," You explain, and she narrows her eyes at you as she once again makes it about Nate. In honesty, the costume had nothing to do with Nate. Despite being comfortable in your routine, you were yearning for something you never really had an interest in before, looking sexy. The shirt had a questionable but still tasteful neckline, and the spandex shaped your butt nicely. As the conversation moves from Halloween to your birthday dinner, you place the order. Lexi gushes in excitement about giving you the gift she bought. Your Saturday carries on like this, but Lexi does not stay over. Instead of hiding away in your room, you move to the kitchen, deciding to make cookies from scratch. Flour resides all over your hands, scarcely on your arms, and on a good portion of your shirt. Frank Ocean plays throughout the empty house as you roll the dough. Your phone dings loudly over the speaker, and Siri notified you of a text from "Nate football emoji."
Nate🏈: sorry about yesterday. Maddys just a pain
You: no need to apologize. Is your Mom okay?
Nate🏈: yeah shes fine
Unsure of what to say, you lock your phone, opting to return to your baking. You shake off your thoughts about the carnival and how angry Nate appeared. Saturday was a quiet day for you—just as you liked.
Monday, you woke to your parents singing Happy Birthday with a cupcake light. Your Mom made french toast sticks and hash browns—your favorite. At your locker, Lexi greets you with a big smile and decorations all over the surface. The inside was no better as balloons filled it to the brim.
"You're cute," You struggle to fight the smile that burns your cheeks as she wraps her arms around you. Several of your peers watch the two of you as your locker now sticks out like a colorful sore thumb. The second biggest shock of your day happens during lunch Rue approaches you with a birthday card. She barely looks you in the eyes as she acknowledges her abandonment of your friendship. You thank her happily while introducing yourself to her friend Jules. Jules wishes you a happy birthday before Rue and herself leave you and Lexi.
"So the plot thickens," Lexi says, and you both agree that despite the friendship being practically gone, it was good to see Rue getting better. At lunch, you also learn Maddy did not come to school. When you arrive home, anticipation fills you; you shower, shaving every inch of your body. The perfume-scented lotion glides across your skin with ease. You spend another two hours in front of your vanity applying makeup. Forty—five of those minutes consist of applying the rhinestones to your eyelid to complete the look you had in mind. Standing in front of your full-length mirror, you grin ear to ear. The apricot-colored suit looks amazing against your skin, and the rhinestone finish on your eyes draws just enough attention to complete the bold ensemble. Lexi enters your room without warning, her eyes widen, and the two of you just stare at each other for a minute. You watch as her smile falters as you shake your head, shifting as she grows unconscious under your gaze.
"You have no right. No right looking this good at my birthday dinner," Your stern look dissolves into a big grin, and she pulls you into a hug. Lexi pulls back closely, inspecting the carefully placed rhinestones. Your mother calls you both down for dinner, and it's two minutes from six when the doorbell rings.
"Did you invite someone else?" Lexi questions settling into her seat as she eyes the sushi that covers most of the table. You shake your head, not recalling anyone else that would be attending. When your mother returns to the kitchen, in her hands rests a dozen pink roses. Nate follows behind her with a suit on and a gift bag in his hand. Your father happily greets him as your mother places her flowers in a vase; Lexi cannot fight the grin off her features.
"Thank you for having me, Mr (L/n)," Nate says as your father offers the seat to the left of you. He places your gift with the others near the table on the floor and adjusts his suit jacket as he takes a seat.
"You look beautiful," He compliments quietly, but no sound besides your mother moving fills the room, so Lexi and your father obviously hear him. At first, dinner feels uncomfortable almost, Lexi's uncertain what to say, and your parents make small talk. It takes about fifteen minutes before the five of you laugh as if this dinner was a weekly occurrence.
"—and after Rue falls (Y/n) starts cry like a madman. I killed her! I killed Rue! Meanwhile, I'm trying not to laugh as Rue plays dead and (Y/n) having a full-on meltdown," Lexi clutches her stomach as she struggles to not laugh and recount the childhood memory. Your parents and Nate laugh with her while you shake your head.
"It was terrifying. I really thought Rue was dead," You explain, picking up a spicy tuna roll with your chopsticks. Nate decides to throw his hat in the ring with a story; he explains it was during the eighth grade. He twisted his ankle during football practice and was sitting in the nurses' office. You were already there with a lollipop from the nurse; it was not opened yet. Nate was crying because of his ankle, and his father told him to stop crying.
"My Dad has this habit of reminding me I'm a guy. I was still crying but trying to make it seem like I wasn't. (Y/n) came over and gave me her lollipop; I just kind of stared at her like an idiot but smiled. Then uh Mrs. (L/n) showed up, and you guys were off. My story isn't funny like Lexi's, but the point is (Y/n) is probably the nicest person I know. Happy Birthday," Raising his water, your parents and Lexi follow his lead. You smile at Nate, thanking him for being so sweet as your father asks if you want to open presents now. You start with Lexi's; her smile widens as you open the gift box.
"Lex," Your jaw drops at the airbrush box; you are certain she has paid at least a hundred dollars on it. Lexi cuts you off before you can protest the expensive gift; she assures you of her store credit and discounts she got for it. Next, you move to your mothers' gift, a box of essential oils and candles greet you. You smile happily, thanking her, in the back of your mind thinking of how she unconsciously enables your weed habit. Before you can choose Nate's gift, your father insists you open the one from him. The big box feels hollow as you move it; opening it, a paper sits inside.
Meet Biscuit, love Mom and Dad.
"Biscuit?" You question, looking over the basement door now swung wide open; as you opened the box, your mother snuck off. Her footsteps coming back up the stairs brings the alleviation of your confusion. In her hands, a tan pitbull looks around at you all with a sweet smile. "Oh my gosh is he mine?"
"Yeah, sweetie," Your Dad says, watching as you blink profusely to stop the tears in your eyes. A chuckle fills the room as your bottom lip sticks out, and you stare at BBiscuit like the apple of your eye. Lexi smiles, knowingly revealing she helped pick him out down at the shelter. You nearly snatch him from your mother, holding him close to your chest; he licks at your chin.
"I don't think I'm going to beat you getting a dog, but you'll like this too," Nate says, placing the gift bag in front of you. Raising an eyebrow at his confident smirk, you hand Biscuit to your father. You stand up, pulling out the tissue paper from the bag; your eyes widen as a big grin sits on your lips.
"Oh my gosh! I can't believe it! Where'd you find this?" You exclaim, pulling out the bag of all yellow skittles. Nate shrugs, playing coy as you stare at him. Dinner continues with the five of you finishing the sushi; you mainly play with Biscuit. At one point, you even eavesdrop as Lexi and Nate make small talk. Lexi's the first to leave, and your parents leave you to walk Nate out.
"I hope you enjoyed your birthday," Nate says, nodding your head as a giddiness tickles your chest. Your mind was once certain this was too good to be true, but lines were blurring. As Nate leans down, you want nothing more than to meet him in the middle; his lips hit your cheekbone.
"You're still dating Maddy. I'm a lot of things, but I'm not that kind of girl," You whisper, not meeting his eyes, but he brings his hand to your chin, lifting it.
"That's fair. I'm sorry. I hope I didn't ruin tonight," He says, and you shake your head, muttering it was perfect. As he leaves, you watch him from the window; he walks slowly to his car. Not once does he look up as he types away on his phone; a curiosity holds you in a chokehold. Why was Nate always so glued to his phone?
If your Birthday on Monday was a fairytale, then Tuesday was a horror film. Maddy came to school with a turtleneck and dark hoodie; by fourth period, Nate was being escorted through the halls by the cops. Your locker sits at the bend before you turn down toward the administration offices and the parking lot exit.
"Nate?" As he stops a few feet from you, you are uncertain where your brazenness comes from. The cop urges him to continue walking but leans down by your ear so quickly someone could convince you it did not happen.
"Don't believe anything they tell you," He says before his father pushes him forward to continue on. The school buzzes about everything they can, and you learn from Lexi that Nate had allegedly choked Maddy the night of the carnival. By sixth period the principal pulls you from class; in an empty classroom stands the two officers from before and your parents.
"Am I in trouble?" You question, looking at your parents, but the officers immediately reassure you. They explain, they only have some questions and cannot do so without your parents present.
"What happened the night of the Carnival that you can remember?" You explain what time you and Lexi arrived together. Then how you ran into Nate, and he invited you to his family's booth. Lastly, the scene Maddy caused in front of everyone.
"After that, he and Maddy walked off. I did not see them again—is Maddy okay?" You ask; looking from the officers to your principal, no one even attempts to answer your question. They offer you the professional response of all possibilities being investigated.
"Have you ever seen your classmate Nate become really angry? Maybe do something he later regretted." The question takes you back, your mind fills with the kind guy who attended your birthday dinner. This smokescreen blinds you from all the signs pointing to Nate's dark persona.
"I—I'm not sure," Looking at your parents, your father speaks up, deciding it was enough. Out in the hall, you ask to go home, and your mother guides you to the main office. Your father joins you both a few minutes after with your jacket and tote bag. On your way out, you briefly make eye contact with Maddy. She sits next to her mother with her hood up, sipping an orange Gatorade. On the car ride home, your parents fail to stay upbeat, your father suggests going out for lunch. Even using your love for IHop to coax you out of your shell.
"I just want to lay down," You mutter, leaning your head on the door; you close your eyes. Tension resting between your eyes, you only open them again as the car rolls to a stop in your driveway. Your parents take your car keys, promising to go retrieve your car. In your room, Biscuit licks at your face, his tail wagging nonstop at the sight of you. You cannot recall when you fall asleep, but you wake to Lexi calling you to go skating with Jules and Rue. On any other day, you were sure your parents would set a strict curfew; instead of enforcing that, your father hands you thirty dollars, and your mother cautiously asks if you are okay. You give them a shallow answer of being fine before leaving.
Lexi and Rue greet you with large smiles; Jules offers a curt smile before pulling Rue to skate. You grab a pair of skates from the desk and join where the girls left their things. Jules and Lexi join you as Rue insists, "One more time!"
"Rue seems really good," Lexi points out as you focus on your other skate, and Jules watches skate holding a large smile. Jules happily agrees with the observation, having not the slightest clue of how good this was in her recovery process. Lexi blatantly states it because of Jules, in which she fails to find any other reason Rue appears so cheerful.
"You make her really happy, Jules. The last time I saw her smile like that was before her Dad got sick," You explain. Jules's smile falters before she excuses herself to the bathroom. You glance at Lexi, who seemingly brushes off of the odd interaction. Before you can push on the subject, Rue pulls you onto your feet; Lexi joins your unaccompanied side.
"We haven't done this in so long," Lexi smiles, and you cannot fight the chuckle that leaves your lips. The music plays loud in your ears, and all the troubles from before wash away. Rue tumbles to the ground causing a domino effect as you follow, and Lexi struggles to stay on her feet as she lets your hand go.
Your parents allow you to skip Wednesday, but all your classmates buzz about Nate and Maddy on Thursday. Despite trying to focus on any and everything else, you find yourself checking your phone. Not a word from him. You consider messaging him, but you always follow with deleting it entirely for every message you type.
Saturday provides you the perfect distraction, your big debut. Who the hell truly expected (Y/n) (L/n) to be at one of the biggest parties of the fall. You make every movement purposeful as you do your make-up, another rhinestone look for the night. On your way out, as Lexi honks for you, you make sure to keep your jacket closed for your parents. They ask you to text them updates that you are okay throughout the night. When you arrive at the party, you ditch your jacket in Lexi's car, Rue and Jules arrive together, but something's off.
"You look great," Rue offers with a timid smile, thanking her as you let Lexi lead you all inside. The music blocks you from even hearing your inner thoughts, and the room reeks of sweat and boozes. You note the smoke detectors are covered with a bowl, which explains the smoky house.
"I'm going to take a walk," You say. Lexi asks if you need company, but you promise it will just be around the party. You start in the kitchen, only two feet in Aidan Clarke's eyes go wide.
"As I live and breathe. I must be drunk-drunk if I think I am actually seeing class president (Y/n) (L/n)!" He exclaims. Your face warms as he smiles at you; the wide receiver was known for his friendliness. Freshman year, all the girls had a crush on him, which never really changed, but you just stopped keeping up with the schools' social climate.
"And what are you supposed to be?" You question, grabbing a cup, you pour a little bit of the Pink Whitney and drown it in lemonade. He chuckles at your question while shaking his head. The backward navy blue cap matches his navy blue shirt that he wears with a gold chain and blunts on his ears.
"And you know this, man!" He says, tilting your head back; the music masks your silvery laugh. The elongated oh that leaves your lips as you realize he's Smokey from Friday only makes you laugh further. Cassie struts in, grabbing the Pink Whitney; she drinks straight from the bottle before stomping off with it. You consider going after her but instead shoot Lexi a text.
"Aye, Aidan! (Y/n)! Come play!" Kaleb from the soccer team calls out; he and his twin brother stand on opposite ends of a small end table. On it, tape makes a small board; before you can protest, Aidan escorts you over with his hand on the small of your back.
"I—um, I don't know how to play?" You explain, placing a shot in the center. Aidan explains it simply. The four of you will start with an even level of alcohol in a red solo cup. At the same time, you will all chug your cups before beginning to try and flip your cups. Every successful flip cup equals one move away from you; if the shot passes over your side off the board, you have to take the shot. Kaleb has one of the freshmen tell you four when to start. You clumsily chug your mixture, some of it pouring down your chin. Never in your life did you think any kind of anxiety was good, but the anxiousness that came with trying to flip your cup brought a thrill. The game lasts for what feels like forever turns out to only be nearly two minutes. You play more defense than offense as Aidan flips his cup expertly, moving the shot closer and closer to your edge. Nathan pushes the shot closer to his brothers' side, and it becomes a game of if it will be your shot or Kalebs. You nearly flip your cup, but it rocks before toppling over. Aidan flips his pushing it off to your side, and the boys cheer in joy as Kaleb and Nathan high-five you, saying good effort. They watch you with expectant eyes as the tequila shot stares back at you.
"You don't have to," Aidan reaches for the shot, but you pull back, and his eyes widen as he raises his hands in surrender. You throw back the shot, gagging as soon as you swallow. The cheers you receive from the simple action make you understand why others like parties. That sense of belonging, feeling like nothing else in the world matters other than these very moments. They ask for a round two, but you shake your head before turning away. Aidan excuses himself before jogging to catch up with you. "Not so fast (L/n). You're mine for the night, deal?"
At a loss for words, you cannot deny the flutter in your stomach or how pretty you feel. You have never truly noticed Aidan, but now every interaction feels like something more. The random hellos in the hallway smiles in your direction, or even the laughing emoji he sends when you repost TikTok's. He holds out his pinky, still waiting as you disappear into your mind. Nate flashes through your mind; checking your phone, you see nothing from him. You put your phone away, hooking your pinky in Aidan's, "I'm yours."
The two of you run into Jules rushing back inside of the party; you flinch as you feel her damp clothes against your skin. She giggles, pulling you into a hug, shushing you, her arms around your neck; she stumbles on her words in your ears.
"D—don't tell Nate," You frown, but before you can question her words, she stumbles back into the party. Aidan chuckles, asking if she would need a ride home, but you assure him that she already had one.
"Do you want to dance?" He asks; panic flashes across your eyes as you glance at your peers' dance. The girls bump and grind in a manner that should count as sex with clothes on. Aidan leans down, stealing your gaze from the others, "We don't have to do that. I mean actually dance. I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
"Yeah, sure," You whisper, allowing him to take your hand and lead you over to the dance floor. Aidan's two-step makes you giggle, but he bops to the music on beat, and you mimic him. The song changes to an EDM mix that you do not recognize, but the crowd loses it, the high energy more intoxicating than the actual alcohol. Becoming bold, you turn around, pressing your backside to Aidan's front. The two of you sway as you rest your head back on his chest and a light laugh leaves both of you. You rest your eyes for a second, soaking in the moment, falling so deep you miss the beginning of your peers chanting Nate's name.
"Nate! Nate! Nate!" Your smile crumbles as you open your eyes; he stands by the door in a striped prison outfit. At his side stands Maddy, but you barely notice her, his gaze meets your own, and the chanting feels as though you have earplugs in. You can hear them plain as day, but your entire being becomes encapsulated by Nate. He breaks your gaze as both he and Maddy pass by you. You watch as he lifts her on the table before kissing her.
"I'm sorry, I have to go," You say, rushing away; you ignore how Aidan calls out to you. Catching sight of Rue and Jules, you note the way Jules either glares or looks away from Nate. You spot Lexi, ignoring both Rue and Jules as you immediately beg Lexi to take you home. Chewing on your bottom lip, you want to cry, knowing very well you have no place to be hurt.
That night you sleep at Lexi's; she cuddles you to bed as you silently cry. You are certain Lexi knows why but she offers you the decency of allowing you to just cry. The next day you hid beneath her comforter with a throbbing headache. Lexi's Mom offered you a glass of wine to curb the headache and a speech of men being horrible.
Nate🏈: Hey sorry I was MIA this whole situation was a lot ya know
You open the message still hiding beneath Lexi's comforter. Lexi had been gone for at least ten minutes to make breakfast, and Cassie was hiding under her own blanket. You consider responding to Nate but instead chose it out entirely.
Nate🏈: can I see u today?
Every fiber in your body screams at you to indulge him; in all honesty, you wanted to. You were in far too deep, and being hyper-aware of that only worsened the feeling in your chest. Nate lingered by your locker at school, but Lexi easily got your stuff for you. In the first period, the announcement was an official apology to Nate, to which you put your head down. You took note of Jules being absent, and Lexi went on about how Rue had a conspiracy. Texting Rue, you meet with her in the second-floor bathroom during the sixth period. Too busy wallowing in your own shit, you took notice of Rue's manic state but said nothing. All of the red flags of Rue's deteriorating mental health was laid out right in front of you. Still, you entertain her ideas and accept her phone calls at three in the morning; why? Whoever said you had been sleeping either.
The clock reads sixty forty-five when Biscuit barks for you to take him out. You drag yourself out of bed, yelling that you are taking Biscuit out to your parents. His tail wags in joy as you put the harness on him by the door. The route you found he enjoyed the most was simple. Two blocks down, one block over, and then rectangle back to the house. Headlights shine bright on the desolate road beside the street and porch lights as you make it around the corner. The car slows to a stop next to you, and as you look over, Nate puts the passenger side window down.
"(Y/n)," He calls out; shaking your head, you continue walking. You call out that he should not be around, but he turns his hazards on before double parking. He jogs up in front of you, and Biscuits licks at his ankles. "Hey, little guy."
"Nate, you should go," You give Biscuits leash a light tug, but that does nothing to stop how rapidly his tail wags as he sniffs away at Nate.
"Come on (Y/n). I thought we were friends?" He questions; taking a deep breath, you feel that faint burn in the back of your throat. You refuse to meet his gaze as you wish to be anywhere else in the world. It may have begun with the party, but Rue made more and more sense as she explained her theory.
"Well, you thought wrong, Nate. I was your tutor. Mrs. Hoffman can assign someone else," You try to walk around him, but he sidesteps you, blocking your path. A sigh leaves your lips as he questions if it was about the Maddy situation—even going as far as explaining what the cops found.
"Did you catfish Jules and convince her to lie that this Tyler guy hurt Maddy?" You question. He moves back from you as hurt flashes across his eyes; you watch as his eyes narrow. For a second, just from his mannerisms alone, you think him to be innocent. Then there it was, the way he rolls back his tense shoulders—you could never explain why but you just knew. "You did. Now that poor guy is being charged with assault."
It was now your turn to back away from him. You grip Biscuits' leash tightly as you turn around, walking on the tips of your toes. Nate calls out your name, jogging up, and before you can grasp what's happening, he drags you by your forearm to the side of his truck.
"What the hell—!" Placing his hand on your mouth, your eyes water as he stares at you. Your entire body trembles beneath the weight of him pressing you against the cold exterior of his car. When he moves his hand, a breathy sigh leaves his lips as his hands ghost over your face as though you are made of glass. You lean as far back as you can, but he takes both your cheeks in his hands and pulls you into a kiss. The force of him against you earns a grimace, and a tear escapes you. "No, no, no, don't cry. You just don't understand okay. We're going to be together. I had it all figured out and then—goddammit Maddy."
Your eyebrows furrow as you look up at him, riding a fine line of not knowing the full weight of his capabilities. He places his hand on the truck above you, blocking you in between him and his car. Your voice cracks as you speak, barely above a whisper, "Nate. We will never be together."
A breathy chuckle leaves his lip, looking off down the empty road before his eyes refocus back onto you. He brings his finger up to the side of your face tracing it; you only mark a few of the impossible standards he holds for girls in his mind, and somehow, here you were. "You're going to come to winter formal with me. I know you will because you are beautiful, smart, and kind. You're going to smile for pictures, laugh, and dance like you love me. Because if you don't, Jules becomes a registered sex-offender, and I make sure you never get into Stanford."
You stand rigid as he leans in closer and closer to your ear; he whispers the last part with a sickening smile. All the pieces fall into your lap for what they truly have been the entire time. Your mind once again clashes between the Nate Jacobs you thought you knew and the realization that you knew not a single goddamn thing about him, not truly. When he realizes you likely will not say anything more, he plants a soft kiss on your cheek.
"I'll text you when I get home. You looked really good at Halloween, by the way!" He calls out as he climbs into his truck, stumbling over to the sidewalk Biscuit whines—he wants to go home. You take one step before Nate's voice catches your ear again. "Oh, and stop talking to Aidan Clark, cool?"
"Cool." Your voice holds a chilling calm despite the tears in your eyes. A cramp radiates up your back as you fight against the way your entire body shakes. You stare at Nate, who stares back at you with a soft expression and a long silence occurs after. He calls out goodnight, and your response comes out almost mechanical. Again, Biscuit whines up at you; this time, you know it's not about going home; he whines up at you as if he knows. You pick him up, carrying him the rest of the way home, stopping on your porch at the sight of the moths flying into the light. They only stay on the bulb for a few seconds before moving, but each time they return again and again. You consider turning the light off, but you freeze with your hand on the switch, leaving it on you rush inside. In your room, you curl up in bed without another word. Biscuit rubs his face against your own, but it does nothing to remedy how fast your heart hammers. Just like many others, Nate Jacobs had you right where he wanted you; he got you easily—like a moth to a flame.
holiday gift for @tiannawashere ❤️
hope you have a lovely day and that next year treats you well 💕
Pairing: Kat Hernandez x Reader
Prompt: "Who spiked the hot cocoa?!” “I did, this party needed to be taken up a notch.”
GIF Not Mine
Kat Hernandez was someone who took your breath away and turned you into a bumbling mess. You thought she was pretty before but now you thinking she’s pretty fucking hot. You wish you had the confidence to go up to her and ask her out but you didn’t. Instead you kept your mouth shut and kept your distance.
You were at a holiday party thrown by Lexie and Cassie struggling to keep your eyes open. You took a sip of the hot chocolate someone slipped into your hand, wincing as the alcohol burnt your throat. “Who spiked the hot chocolate?!”
“I did, this party needed to be taken up a notch.” Kat shrugged taking a sip of her own drink not wincing like you did. "I can’t believe I wore this dress to this party." She said, picking at her dress.
"Well I think you look amazing." You gave her a soft smile. If it was anyone else Kat would’ve rolled her eyes but this was you. She knew you were being genuine and not trying to get into her pants.
"Hey, do you want to get out of here?" Kat asked. You opened your mouth to say something but shut it again looking at your friends who were in the living room. "They won’t notice, trust me."
You bit your lip, considering your options before putting your cup down and grabbing Kat's hand she held out for you, giggling as the two of you snuck out of the house.
IMAGINE: HAVING A SLEEPOVER WITH MADDY, KAT AND CASSIE.
You flop onto Maddy’s bed beside Kat, where she’s sprawled out amongst all of Maddy’s pillows. Kat laughs as the two of you bounce slightly on the mattress, and Maddy teasingly rolls her eyes at the two of you from her dresser. Raising an eyebrow at the two of you, she asks, “So what are we doing tonight?”
You purse your lips as you think. “Watch movies?”
“Makeup?” Cassie suggests from Maddy’s closet as she goes through Maddy’s tops. Pulling one out, she lays it against her chest as she asks, “Do you guys think this will look on me for my date with McKay tomorrow?”
Maddy nods enthusiastically as Kat snorts, “You look good in anything, dude. But let’s not talk about guys tonight. It’s a girls night, right?”
Cassie grins as she puts the top away, and you nod in agreement, “Sounds good to me.”
Elliot x reader where Jules and Rue interrogate Elliot and question his intentions with reader, who is also in the same room but not being allowed a say in the situation.
ELLIOT X F!READER
Sypnosis: Rue and Jules are a bit overprotective of y/n so when she starts dating Elliot, that isn't going to slide just because he's their friend
Word count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
Here's the thing, Rue and Jules tursted her one hundred percent, she was the most mature of them all and had been their friend for a long time. Being friends with Rue as long as she knew Lexi. She didn't have a problem with all the drinking or doing drugs, actually enjoying herself a drink, blunt or line at certain occasions. And the two loved her with all their might, but there was one thing bugging the shit out of them
"Why him?" The brunette girl said as she leaned against the wall behind her, eyes narrowing as she and Jules watched y/n by her locker further up the corridor.
"I have no fucking idea," Jules uttered, squinting as the two watched Elliot walk up to y/n and the girl happily saying hi, earning a playful bow from the boy. They'd known him for a year, now he and y/n were dating.
"She could get any guy and choose him? Our musician friend who dose drugs on a daily basis and acts like a whole idiot," Were these words something Rue would've said about Elliot if he wasn't dating y/n? No, not really, but the whole idiot part was true though.
"I don't understand either Rue," Jules sighed, turning to the fluffy hair girl, she was probably a bit high too.
Jules and Rue watched as y/n and Elliot talked, both of them joking and teasing one another, nothing new. Elliot then said something to the girl and brushed his knuckles against her cheekbone, making her turn away from him. They were cute and all, yes, but what was Elliot's intentions with her? Maybe it was time.
"How about some digging, agent Bennett?" Jules asked in a joking tone, Rue's eyes squinted at the couple still flirting further away from them. Letting out a hum.
"Sounds like a plan, agent Vaughn." Rue gave a sly smirk to her girlfriend.
Both of them swiftly pushed off the wall, their long legs giving both of them the ability to walk over quickly. Just on thir way however, Nate Jacob's stared at them but Rue quickly raised her hand and flipped him off. Then turning to Jules who laughed.
"I'm just saying! Why the fuck would they make vanilla oreos? That ain't fucking oreo!" y/n exclaimed to Elliot as he just looked at her rummaging through her locker. His hand holding onto one of hers and giving it a small squeeze.
"Why are we even talking about oreos again?" Elliot questioned with a raised brow.
"Cassie fucking said she likes vanilla oreos and I was like 'vanilla WHAT?!'." Her facial expressions made Elliot crack up and he had to hold in a laugh from he rant.
His eyes stayed on her with a smile as she ranted to him about vanilla oreos, y/n might be the smartest of them all but she did have times like these quite often, times where he would not let one topic go because of how she irritated herself over it. But it was something he loved, one of the many things he loved about her.
His favorites for the four months they'd been together was: those times he would play guitar in his room, y/n coming up from behind him and placing a kiss on the apple tattoo under his eye. The times when y/n would lie on he exact with Elliot on top of her, her hands plating with his bleached curls.
"Hey you two," Jules spoke, announcing her and Rue being there. Elliot spun around while y/n turned her head from the locker, hand still in Elliot's.
"Oh, hey," Elliot greeted, a bit surprised by their sudden appearance with hima nd y/n.
Rue and Jules stood awkwardly beside one another, their shoulders brushing. y/n turned her body fully, cocking her head at the two girls as she squinted. Almost as I'd she was looking into their souls. Rue gave the tight-lipped smile she gave whenever there was something.
"Okey what's going on?" y/n poked at Rue, Elliot catching onto that they were acting strange.
Jules and Rue gave one another a look before in swift movements, Rue grabbed Elliot's hood and started ro pull him down the corridor, making him loose his grip on y/n's hand. Jules throwing a arm over y/n's shoulders and pulling her behind Elliot and Rue.
This very much reminded Elliot of the time that Jules felt the need to interrogate him over how he and Rue met, only that it was Jules pulling Elliot and Rue pulling y/n along just to see the show go down. Rue knowing her girlfriend was jealous of this new boy.
They reached a empty classroom and Jules locked it behind them, Rue pushing Elliot to sit down on a chair. He watched as Rue leaned against a desk, glaring him down, Jules sitting y/n down on one bench close by and standing beside her. His eyes found y/n's with a questioning look and y/n simply shrugged.
"Now, Elliot," Rue began. "Are you gonna answer our questions?"
"Depends on what manic thing you guys have come up with this time, I thought we were done with the interrogation shit." Elliot's eyes darted between all three girls, clearly it was only Rue and Jules that were know about this.
"Come on you two, just let Elly be and-" Jules quickly put a hand over y/n's mouth, catching her off guard. The blond patted y/n's arm lightly.
"Nah ah ah," Rue batted a finger at y/n. "Now back to you, what are your intentions with y/n?"
"My what?" Elliot was a bit taken aback by the fact that they asked this four months into their relationship.
"Oh Rue just-" Once more Jules put her hand over y/n's mouth, shutting her up.
"Come on," Jules gestured for Elliot to continue bit he just looked between the two girls.
"You just using her for a fuck?" Rue asked, Elliot shaking his head vigorously.
"The hell? Now I'm not."
"When did you know you were in love with her then?" Jules asked, her hand still over y/n's mouth, sitting next to the h/c girl on the bench. Elliot sighed, looking up at the roof.
"Why do you even need to know?"
"Because we do," Rue quickly answered him, probably snapped out from her high.
"There was this one time, we were hanging out without the two of you, in my car and we had like, I don't know, driven off somewhere. We were smoking some weed and she just blew some smoke in my face, it just.. I dint know that was just kinda the start I guess."
"Now, are you gonna turn her into a whole addict?" Rue asked with a sten voice, she was not going to have her friend that actually did good and have a future, to throw it away for some boy.
"Fuck no," Elliot looked at Rue. "Look she only dise ut like every once in a while, and I ain't gonna turn her into a addict."
"You guys ever kissed before getting together and all that?" Jules then asked with a grin, this causing Elliot to fall quiet. His and y/n's eyes meeting in a look of knowing. Jules hand still over y/n's mouth gently.
"So you did?" Rue asked, almost completely out of her foggy mind.
"Come on, when?" Jules pressed on and Elliot waited for a sign that y/n didn't want him to tell. But she simply shrugged her shoulders and sighed behind Jules hand.
"Kinda," Elliot answered snd Jules narrowed her eyes.
"Kinda or you did kiss her?"
"I mean kind,"
"No, we're not doing the same shit you pulled when I asked if you were straight of fucking gay!" Jules immediately told Elliot off, y/n letting out a snort behind Jules hand.
"Did you kiss before getting together? Yes or no and when was it." Rue leaned down to be at eye level with Elliot but she wasn't the least scary for him so he just sat back and watched her. Sighing.
"Fine, yeah we did. On new years, midnight." Elliot looked up at Rue with and annoyed face, but Rue let her face fall into shock.
"You didn't tell us this?!" Jules exclaimed at y/n who simply shrugged.
"We got together like four days later," Elliot piped in.
Then it all switched, instead of Jules and Rue interrogating Elliot they both began to argue back and forth about not noticing the two kiss at new years since all of them had been together that night.
This however, made Jules let y/n go and Rue was turned away from Elliot, y/n sneaked her way over to Elliot who still sat on the chair Rue had pulled out.
"Should we rethink out choice in friends?" y/n leaned down and put her chin on Elliot's shoulder, looking up at him with big eyes.
"Maybe but they need us," Elliot joked back, both of them smiling as the blond and brunette continued their bickering.
Their eyes stayed glued on one another, even after four months Elliot still felt his heart beat faster at her soft eyes. y/n always having a feeling of happiness with him, her cheeks heating up around him.
y/n leaned up and kissed the tattoo under his eyes softly, leaning her head against his, closing her eyes.
"Love you," She whispered.
"Love you too,"
"How the fuck didn't you nor I notice they kissed on fucking new years, Jules?!"
Pairing: Maddy Perez x Male!reader
Summary: There weren't many kids that didn't feel oddly out of place at East Highland. A kid always fits in somewhere with a certain group of people or their own clique. But you were far different from the rest of the kids. You stuck out like a sore thumb and Maddy couldn't help but become curious from the mystery surrounding you.
Warnings: Pure fluff and Maddy being adorably kind
Part Two - Part Three - Final Part
Words 3150
When Maddy came into school, she was prepared for just another day of school. What else could be so great about school? The conversations happening between her and her friends were the exact same. Any drama going on was talked in great detail. Maddy just wasn’t interested today, for whatever reason. She needed something new. After her and Nate’s break up and the backstab that Cassie had done, she was searching for something refreshing. Like a nice open beach that she had yet to visit.
“Do we have anything good going on today?” She asked, siphoning through her locker, grabbing the books needed for her first couple classes for the day. But when she found Kat and Lexi oddly silent, she pulled her head from her locker and followed their gaze. Breath being caught in her throat at the sight of, well, you.
“That’s why I am saying, we should be heading to Florida this summer,” Elliot told you. “We both have our license and we’ve been planning on doing this for years, man.”
“I wouldn’t mind.”
You and Elliot walked past the trio, unaware of their unwavering eyes. God, you were fucking hot. Telling by the looks on both Lexi and Kat’s faces, they felt the exact same way. You were tall, extremely tall that you had to slightly bend down to move through door ways. A cigarette hung between your lips with your short sleeve shirt hugging your built frame beautifully.
Maddy let her eyes pick apart the pieces of art inked into your flesh. A vine starting from your wrist curled around your left arm up to your shoulder. Other pieces surrounded said vine, but on your right forearm was knife drive through a skull. Even from the distance, she could see the impeccable detail. On the side of your neck sat a flower with blood dripping from one of the petals. Finally, a small noose could be seen behind your left ear. It was so small that most wouldn’t notice if they weren’t paying close enough attention. But you had Maddy’s attention. Every single damn ounce of it.
That had been the first time Maddy ever saw you. From there, she shared a few classes with you, but you rarely ever spoke. Residing at the back of the class, silently doing your work that the teacher gave you to catch up to the rest of the class. And when she was done with school, she would see you sitting on your motorcycle having a cigarette by yourself.
In the matter of only a few days, you had built up a reputation that most wouldn’t condone. It’d only happened when Nate seemed to freak out at Cassie for being clingy. One person said something and ended up with Nate having his face smashed into the tiled floor. 2 - 0. But since then, everyone stayed the hell away from you, besides Elliot as Maddy guessed you two had been friends way before you ever showed up.
No one knew a damn thing about you. There was no background of your life that could allow them to speculate and create rumor's. You were a jigsaw that people didn’t even dare to try and assemble. But Maddy was a person who liked to take leaps into the unknown. You were exactly that. The complete epitome of the unknown. As well as a breath of fresh air to the school that Maddy wanted to indulge in.
So, when she saw you in the hallway, she made her way towards you. She had a whole plan ready. She knew what she was going to say and what she was going to do. It was all thought out, it was now only a matter of doing it.
“Hi, the names Maddy Perez.” You turned your head slowly, looking down at the girl. If anyone was watching, which a few were, they would see the very noticeable height difference as you were a good 2 feet (almost 3) taller than her.
But your empty gaze did intimidate her if she was being honest. “Y/n.” If Maddy wasn’t so preoccupied with your beauty, she would’ve realized that your gravely and deep voice sent a shock through her system.
You were sculpted by the gods and Maddy wasn’t afraid of admitting it. Your voice was created by the deep baritones played just outside golden gates. But your body was marked by the most evil demons in the fiery pits of hell. Huh, maybe she should take up poetry. “You’re in my math class, right?”
The question undoubtedly threw Maddy off. You’d seen her? Oh, god. She was starting to sound like a teenage girl who was pinning over the popular guy in her class. But Highland was a small town, so she should’ve expected much.
“Uh, yeah,” she nodded. “We share a few classes together.”
“That’s sick.” For the very first time, Maddy saw you smile. A damn smile. Somehow, she had managed to have you smile. “So, what’s up? What do you need from me?”
“I was wondering if you’d like to come to a party my friend is hosting,” she offered. “I can show you what East Highland has to offer.”
You sighed softly, pursing your lips. “I’ll have to pass, Maddy,” you said. “But thanks though. Haven’t gotten many offers.”
“Well, you don’t really kinda give off the vibe of approachable.”
That made you grin again. God, she was on a fucking streak. So much so that you had leaned in with a hint of amusement in your eyes. “Well, I’ve hearing judging a book by its cover is pretty bad.”
The hushed tone did very little to repress the shivers that ran down her spine. It slithered its way into her head and she liked the way it sounded. Your voice was so damn soft despite how deep it was that Maddy had a hard time believing it was even possible.
You softly shut your locker with your text books cupped under your arm. “I’ll see you in class, Maddy.”
That first interaction had been an enlightening one for Maddy as she was the first person besides Elliot or teachers to talk to you. And the longer she watched from the sidelines, she realized how rare of an experienced it was because every other girl or guy that tried to do the same were simply ignored.
Somehow, you managed to contradict every goddamn stereotype placed on you in the 15 seconds of you two talking. Which only added more to the puzzle that Maddy desperately wished to be the first to solve.
Which came as a surprise when after cheerleading practice, she walked out to the parking lot to find you. Eyes attached to your phone as you pulled the cigarette from your lips. Softly exhaling the cloud into the open air.
“You stalking me now, Y/n?” The mention of your name and the familiar voice had you lifting you head.
When you found Maddy making her way over, you smiled kindly. “Just enjoying the weather,” you stated. “Did you know riding a motorcycle is good for one’s mental health?”
Hmm, so you were adorably smart? Cute. “Do you suffer from anything?” Maddy asked
You shook your head with a soft sigh. “Nah, its just nice to have a clearer head,” you explained. “It’s my personal therapy.”
Maddy bit back a smile as she looked at the motorcycle. “Well, I heard not talking to a therapist and dealing with your own problems could cause problems.”
Then, by some gift from god, you laughed. It’s low, yet graceful. Which made it hard for Maddy to contain the smile that formed on her lips. “I did hear that,” you chuckled. “But to each there own, right?”
She nodded, staring intently at you. How did you seem to defy every aspect people thought of you? Maybe it was because you wanted something from her. Sex? God, some part of Maddy hoped so, but she wasn’t interested as of late. She wanted to find the right guy before she even decided to go start having sex again.
“Do you need a ride?” Maddy blinked, swallowing the lump in her throat before shrugging.
“Sure.” You sat up, dropping the cigarette to the ground and squashing it with your foot. Handing her a helmet that was adorably huge on her head. “What?”
“You just look funny with my helmet on.”
“Do you not have an extra?”
You started up the motorcycle with Maddy settling in right behind you. Arms tightening around you in slight anxiety. “Your safety matters more than mine, Maddy,” you said before looking over your shoulder with a teasing smile. “I also would hate people saying things about you being around me.”
Before she could even respond, you were pulling from the parking spot and driving. Somewhere along the way, you had stopped at a diner and Maddy was more than keen for some food. She watched as you treated the waitress with so much kindness. Despite her quite flirtatious eyes and smiles, you never humored her and it shocked Maddy.
So many girls and guys had thrown themselves at you, but you never acted on natural desire. Like a lot of mysterious things about you, Maddy was intrigued.
“No one comes to East Highland because they just decide to,” Maddy says, dipping her fry into ketchup. “So, what brought you here?”
You wiped your fingers with a napkin, nodding along to her words as you clicked your tongue. “Uh, I actually moved in with my cousin, Elliot,” you explained. “My mom passed away and my dad started a second family, so I came here for a new start you could say.”
“Oh, I’m sorry for prodding.”
“Nah, it’s fine,” you shrugged. “Less people I have to worry about, the better.”
Maddy nodded, continuing to silently eat the food you bought her. This was one thing Nate never gave her. He always managed to get her a fancy meal at an expensive restaurant, but he never did something so casual. He was always getting her things, and as much as she liked all the expensive clothing and jewelry, he never was down to earth with her. They never talked about stuff that was real. She was only getting a brief insight into your life and she was finding more enjoyment in that then she ever did with Nate.
She grabbed a napkin and wiped her fingers before humming, pointing at you. You chuckled and leaned back in the leather seating. “All right, Mads, lay it on me,” you urged. “Ask me what you want to ask.”
She raised a brow in amusement. “Oh, we’re on a nickname basis now?”
“Ask me the question before I revoke it.”
“All right, all right,” she laughed, inhaling deeply before staring at you with squinted eyes. “Why haven’t you started dating anyone or had sex with anyone?”
You nearly choked on your food laughing. “Who said I haven’t had sex?”
“Trust me, Y/n,” she said. “I got my ways of finding out and people around here aren’t really good at keeping secrets.”
You raised a brow, corners of your lips tugging into an amused smile. “Are you keeping tabs on me, Maddy?”
“Answer the question, please.”
You sighed, crossing your arms on the table and leaning forward. Sniffling slightly as your lips parted, trying to find the right words. “I guess no one has ever liked me like that or wanted that?”
“Lies.” Her immediate response had you lifting both brows in surprise. “Lies because I know Cassie Howard asked you out, but you shot her down-”
“With kindness of course.”
“Y/n, you gotta talk to me to make our friendship work-”
“Oh, we’re friends now?”
“I swear, I’m gonna stab you with this fork.”
Maddy watched you sigh, left hand tapping against your right forearm. Seemingly deep in thought as he leaned back, hand waving dismissively. “Okay,” you sighed. “Love and sex? It’s a cool concept at the start for me. I love to hear about it, fun to read about it, write about it, and think about in my head. But...when it’s real...”
“It’s scary?”
You bit the inside of your lip, nodding softly. “Why is that scary?”
And Maddy watched your mood slightly drop as you licked your lips. Finger tapping against the table softly as you nodded to yourself. “Because the more people you let into your life,” you paused, “the more that can just walk right out.”
It had been that moment that the cloud that surrounded you and your past was cleared and Maddy got to see the true you. The saddest and most scared part of yourself that was put behind good looks and tattoos. Suppressed by the cigarette’s and nicotine that intoxicated your lungs.
What you had to say and offer was pushed back in fear. That was what Maddy had to gather, at least. Something about that made you more intriguing and she felt for you. She was scared of love just as much as you. After Nate, it made it hard for her to try and start dating again. Sex was just as scary as she had been accustomed to how Nate treated her during sex and after.
She licked her lips, slightly motioning to you. “That’s...like your parents, right?”
For the first time, Maddy saw through the forced smile you tried to portray. Taking a sip of your drink to push away the sorrowful thoughts of your parents. But the rest of the night carried on in a comfortable silence. One that Maddy wished to fill, but wanted you to feel comfortable. She didn’t want to come off as needy for information. She did feel some sort of connection with you on a deeper level. No one would fully understand and something about that made her happy.
As far as she knew, besides Elliot, she was the only one to know the truest part of yourself. She felt special, in a sense. But she didn’t try and let that cloud the fact that you had trusted her enough with this information. You could’ve given it to anyone else, but you chose her. That had to say something, right?
After that night, school was different. Whenever Maddy was in the hall, talking to Kat and Lexi, or even Rue or Jules, you would practically steal her away to head to class. She didn’t tell her friends, but it was because she was failing some of her classes and you decided to tutor her. But in those moments alone or before class, you two got to know more about one another.
People asked her what was the deal between you two, but there was nothing. Maddy didn’t know why though. If she was being honest, she’d expected you to make a move on her. But she always taken by surprise when you cared more about who she was hooking up with. Telling her, “If any of them say or do something you don’t like, you come to me.”
She could always count on you to protect her when she needed it. “Get the fuck out of here, Maddy,” Nate barked. “I don’t have time for this.”
“If you’re going to be a dick to Lexi, then I’m going to be a dick to you,” Maddy replied before pointing to the books he smacked out Lexi’s hand. “Pick them up.”
The boy scoffed. “I don’t have time for this.” When he suddenly tossed her out of the way, hitting the lockers, the hallway went deathly silent.
Nate looked around confused until he found you behind him. Eyes heavy with a glare, fires glaring bright in you y/e/c eyes. After your first and only fight, Nate had to say you were on intimidating motherfucker. Standing around 2 inches taller than him and far more leaner then anyone else in school. He wouldn’t admit it, but some part of himself was scared of you.
“You’re going to pick up the books and apologize to Lexi and Maddy, Nate.” Your voice shook the walls already, but the growl you gave off sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
“Y/n, it’s all right,” Lexi tried to reassure, ready to bend down and grab the books, but you stopped her.
“Lexi, Maddy, Kat, go to the bathroom real quick, will you?” You looked at the three girls. “Come out in a minute or 2, okay? Nate will like to talk to you after.”
“C’mon, Y/n,” Kat reasoned. “It’s not worth it. Just let it go.”
You didn’t acknowledge her words and your silence made the three girls quietly move towards the bathroom. But the instant they inside, they heard the loud pounding of a body hitting the lockers. The muffled grunts and yells filling their senses as they glanced at one another uneasily.
“Oh, fuck!” You slammed your fist into Nate’s bloody face before tossing him into a locker. He could respond as you pressed your forearm to his throat.
“Someone get the girls!” A random kid ran towards the bathroom, and soon the three girls walked out. Their eyes widened at the sight of Nate’s bloody features. “Say it or I’ll fucking choke you to death.”
“I’m sorry,” Nate slurred before you let him fall to the ground.
“Now, pick up Lexi’s books.” He did as he was told before you shoved him away with a few people smirking in amusement. No one ever stood up to Nate, but you seemed to defy that every single time. 3 - 0.
You then turned to Lexi, placing a hand on her shoulder. She was surprised to see your entire demeanor switch to worry. “Are you alright?” You mused. “Did he hurt you?”
She shook her head and your eyes flickered to Maddy who held her shoulder. “I’ll take you to the nurses office.”
Maddy didn’t protest as she felt the warm butterflies swarm her stomach. Especially when you sat in the room, asking the nurse questions on how you could help alleviate the pain. Practically taking mental notes on everything you would need to help her.
And when you two were alone, you scanned the bruise carefully. Maddy watched you every single moment. Then when she least expected it, you laughed. She raised a brow, your laugh infectious and enabling her to smile as well. “What?”
“Did I ever tell you I grew up in, Florida?” She shook her head as you smiled softly, pulling away from her. “You remind me of it.”
That made her frown, laughing in slight confusion. “How?”
You shrugged. “Your skin is like a warm day on the beach,” you started. “Your words are tasteful like a dish from Lamoraga. Your playful attitude is like Municipal Beach.” Then you laughed softly, looking at her with a grin as her face was flushed. “Misses FL.”
