how is china characterizing 6em these days?
From what I can tell, it’s been a lot of them have either been brothers, old comrades that once knew each other, clones, or even complete strangers.
2016 A Chinese Odyssey Part Three 大话西游3 - this one they never really met at all just that they happened to look like each other. He does sleep around a lot in this one. Deadbeat dad.
2017 Journey to the West The Legend of the Merman 西游鲛人传 - killed by Wukong, wants him dead and tries to pretend to be him to break him up with his girlfriend. Pissed-offed villain.
2020 The Real vs. Fake Monkey King 真假美猴王之大圣无双 - strangers but that Six Ears was promised his wife would be healed if he took on Wukong's memories and lost his own so that evil lady can kill Wukong. Loyal husband who lost his identity.
2019 The Monkey King: The True Sun Wukong 美猴王之真假孙悟空 - this one they grew up as brothers but had a falling out over a girl. Jealous brother.
2020 Monkey King 大圣 - made from Wukong's qi and used as a tool to gain Wukong's trust while he is forced into a fighting battle. Lab Rat turned good I think?
2021 Monkey King: The One and Only 大圣无双 - this one the guy is actually just a hair clone that gained too much sentience. Hair Clone.
2021 Six-Eared Monkey 六耳猕猴 - this one they kinda knew each other but moreso Wukong knew the guy was a shit and always trying to fight him? Also, Six Ears adopts Wukong as his son. Some jerk turned dad?
2021 Marvel Monkey 六耳猕猴之妖王重生 - Six Ears is dead and it's about his next life as a human. Dead.
2021 The Monkey King: True and False Monkey King 齐天大圣之真假美猴王 - not actually sure, prettying sure it's about Six Ears trying to get Wukong to fight heaven again. Friends? Brothers?
2022 Journey to the West: True and False Monkey King 西游记 之真假美猴王 - Six Ears and Wukong are brothers and Wukong took the fall for Six Ears and pays the price to go on the pilgrimage while Six Ears wants revenge. Brother.
2022 King of Confusion: The Rise of the Great Sage / Four Monkeys in Confusion 混世之王:混世四猴 /混世之王之大圣崛起 - this is like Wukong meeting all the spiritual primates so I'm not too sure if they are all meeting at once but it sounds like they never met beforehand as Wukong is meeting them all on the journey. Clan member?
2023 I'm Not a Great Sage 我不是大圣 - Six Ears trying to be a villain but accidentally becomes a hero in his own right. Pretty sure he was just some guy in this but still a cute idea. Wannabe Villain.
2030 True and False Monkey King / Dare to Ask the Way: Apprentice Chapter 西游记之真假美猴王/西游记真假美猴王 - this one is like Six Ears is dead but Wukong takes on Six Ear's apprentice as his own I think? Dead.
So yeah there are a lot of different takes in the past decade or so with Chinese media when it comes to characterizing the Six-Eared Macauque. A lot of directors often use their own spin either making him cartoonishly evil which is always enjoyable. Some make him just straight-up evil while others make him a tragic character that is either an abomination or a man that has been pushed too far and needs to be put down. At least two just leave him dead. And then some that make him a confidant in Wukong that has betrayed him and we watch his descent into his own downfall from one thing to another. There are a lot of different directors doing a lot of different things and I think it’s great that people can have their own creative liberties when it comes to the character and can’t wait to see where more people take him.
But these are just the ones I know about. There could be more I haven't stumbled across yet but I have to say but is spilt between Wukong knowing him before the journey or him just being a guy that Wukong happens to become his obsession. Lots of variations of the character that I think anyone could find themselves being drawn to depending on what a person is interested in or looking for. I think directors have a lot of fun with Six Ears as not only a character but as a concept because everyone loves a good doppelgänger sometimes. He isn’t as popular as like DBK or Iron Fan when it comes to like movies or such but he is still well-known enough for him to have a lot of interpretation

*kicks down your door*
The newest chapter of Dazai’s Moving Detective Agency is so fucking good it is now my fave chapter I did not expect THAT to be the solution to the heart thing. Also the Akutagawa and Atsushi thing was Goddamn hilarious.
*Shakes your hand, fixes the door, and leaves.*
HULLO oh my gosh I'm sorry this took me so long to respond to alskdfjskfjs this ask was one of the ones that kept disappearing and reappearing in my browser inbox for some reason — ANYWAY YESSS (I want to talk about spoilers for chapter 19 so I'm gonna put them under the cut :0)
Ok so the heart thing! I wanted to mention that I remember seeing your comment where you theorized about how maybe the heart thing would be solved by Chuuya and Dazai kissing or saying "I love you" for the first time, and that maybe they could metaphorically share a heart between them, and the way you wrote it sounded so nice and romantic and lovely and while I was reading it I was internally just thinking "oh no" because of how it was actually going to go XD
In retrospect I really did have Chuuya solve it in the most brute force way possible aksdjfksfjks — speaking of that scene though, it did change a bit from the way I had originally planned it! Since I wrote the story back to front, I figured out the ending first, then the middle, then went back to the beginning and worked forward from there — so as a result, by the time I got back to the ending, a bunch of character stuff had changed.
Basically, in my first draft, Chuuya was going to get out of the chasm, find Dazai in the castle ruins, tell Yosano "before you say anything I know this is very medically inadvisable", then immediately pull his own heart out of his chest and split it in half (much to the utter horror of everyone watching). I was kind of hand-waving the magic aspect at that point, figuring "well, he's a star with a shit-ton of magic, he can probably survive doing wild stuff like that".
...But then I started writing everything out from the beginning, and added all the stuff with Chuuya learning not to shut out the people who care about him and to let them help him when he's in trouble, and in the process of really digging into his character arc I realized that I had made it so that him acting on his own like that would have been rolling back the character development I had already given him aksjdfksdfjskj SO I thought about it for a looong time and gradually figured out how to incorporate Rimbaud, Yosano, Kyouka, and the rest into all helping out in their own ways. And I ended up liking that version way better, since it fits more with the theme of support and the importance of all Chuuya's bonds he's made along the way, so I think it was worth the extra effort in the end!
...It still is a very brute-force way to solve it though XD Chuuya has a very straight forward approach to everything ksjfkdsj
ANYWAY that was a long ramble — I'm also really glad you enjoyed the Akutagawa and Atsushi shenanigans, I ended up having way too much fun with that part :D Their interactions are actually pretty similar to how I initially planned everything out (that end part where Dazai and Chuuya are completely wrapped up in each other while everything is spiraling out of control around them is heavily inspired by the ending of the book version of Howl's Moving Castle, and I had most of the dialogue for it figured out from the beginning).
...Honestly, considering how out of order I wrote it, I'm surprised I didn't have to scrap more scenes. As it is, the only things that really ended up getting changed/scrapped were:
A part of chapter 11 (in particular, the bit where Chuuya and Dazai talk after Dazai brings Akutagawa and Kyouka to the castle was originally a very different tone, because Chuuya was not supposed to have gotten as far along his "realizing he has feelings for Dazai" arc)(I do still kinda like the original version for the comedy aspect, but I like the way the final version fits with their relationship progression better)
A scene where Dazai was going to get drunk, which had to be scrapped entirely (I was basing it off of the book scene where Howl gets drunk and goes on a rant about the curse, but I ended up deciding that it a), made things way too obvious, and b), Chuuya should have absolutely figured everything out from what Dazai said and I didn't want to make Chuuya seem like a moron)
The final confrontation between Chuuya, Dazai, and Fyodor changed a LOT. I rewrote that scene. So many times. Similar to the Chuuya-pulling-out-his-heart-scene, there was a bit in my original draft that ended up being very out of character for Dazai because of how his and Chuuya's relationship had developed in the rest of the story, so I had to completely switch around how they got into the chasm in the first place. I again think it was worth the effort though, because I think where it landed (Dazai completely losing control of the situation and having to trust Chuuya to save them both) was more interesting for Dazai's arc as well.
Anyway, all that said— I've had a really really good time writing this fic, and I'm happy other people have enjoyed it too!! (And hopefully I can actually finish chapter 20 soon aksdjfksdj things keep getting in the way of it help)

Me coming here after rereading Mostly Intact and learning through you that the writers or whoever working on ATSV didn't care about Miguel's own canon is a wild trip - like, damn, wtf, his canon is so good tho?? Why they ruining our man like this? Mostly Intact is my canon now ❤️
I have no idea why they're doing this! It sucks!
That being said this is not the first fandom I've been in where the official story is weird or bad in some way! See: me complaining about the Zdarsky Daredevil run (how i hate it!). Sometimes, when the official thing is bad, you just dive into the fanfiction and fandom stuff and ignore the original.
Considering how hard the SM2099 Fandom has latched on to the organic webbing and genetic splicing.... I would be very surprised if people didn't just ignore it and do the weird body horror anyway. Half-spider is way more fun.
Also yes please feel free to make Mostly Intact your canon ❤️ I kinda think playing in the Spider Society Everyone-Gets-Along status quo is way better than trying to hit a moving target of between-two-movies.

Sorry for the wait but here is it
JIM & KANEKI
(The Ultimate Hunter & the Human centipede)
Part 2
Tumblr media
The last time I analyzed and compared Jim with Kuroneki, this time should be TrollJim with Shironeki
Jim/Troll!Jim
Ken/Shironeki/Centipede
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After an epic yet underwhelming transformation, to protect their loved ones and put aside their weakness, they must say goodbye to their humanity in order to gain a bigger power that could crush everything that get in their way
Things that they have in common: Kaneki was chained on a chair while talking to Rize before accepting his Ghoul side, Jim was chained in a chair while talking to Merlin before turning into a Troll, on this form Jim cannot eat human food just as how Ken cannot do too, as Jim and Kuroneki they often use a blue jacket (Ken only does it in the anime) as TrollJim and Shironeki they always have a more darker aura and clothes (TrollJim's case was justified because he cannot get rid of the amulet and armor until he was calmed down), despite gaining a more savage change in their personality they still have their kindness and part of his original self still, since they are not born with those powers exactly they are practically Artificial hybrids, after Jim gets stabbed by the onyx his eyes tends to turn to red (in some oficial arts Ken's eyes also are red), after Ken's torture and Jim's transformation their nails turn black and their hair change his shape and color, both versions where born to defeat a big psycho and powerful monster (Gunmar and Yamori), after defeating the big bad Jim and Ken separate from their friends to go with their own group (Kaneki in the manga formed his own group while in the anime he joined Aogiri) with the promise of coming back (they kinda didn't), since Jim is now half troll part of his alimentation consist kinda for trash, metal things (probably gross things too like sockets) and in the best/worst case human flesh, in one of the concept arts TrollJim's original design shows him with red eyes, Doctor Kano is to Ken is what Merlin is for Jim (they both turned them into monsters and practically ruined their life but at the same time saved them), one of the requirements to make the elixir that turned Jim into a Troll consisted in a changeling femur just like how to make a Ghoul hybrid it's important a Ghoul's organ (the Kakuhou), they both where defeated and almost killed by a powerful enemy (Green Knight and the CCG Reaper Kisho Arima) also just as Ken ended with his eyes stabbed by Arima, Jim got his chest (and later his heart by himself) stabbed by Green Knight, on this forms they have their own alias (Jim = TrollJim, Kaneki = Centipede), they have a scene where someone calls him no human neither ghoul/troll
Difference between them: After the transformation, Jim's human personality remained, but gained a more savage, wild, and hostile attitude (especially with his enemies). Meanwhile, Kaneki turned more psycho, cruel, merciless, and tended to torture their enemies (or, in the worst case, eat them) despite turning into a creature who eats humans too Jim never shows the desire of human flesh, as the story goes on Kaneki's mental state decays more and more this isn't the case for Jim, at the end of Wizards Jim turned back into a human while Ken remained a Ghoul forever, TrollJim debuted on TH's finale season while Shironeki debuted in season 1 final, Kaneki was for about 1 season trying to get used to his new life as a ghoul while Jim just got 1 episode to do it.
I was planning on adding Beast!Jim and Haise, but I think I can left that as a part 3

50 Follower Special Surprise
Hihi besties, so I've officially hit 50 followers which may not seem like much but the fact that there's 50 of you that listen to my insanity is wild so first off, thank you all!!
Second, I promised a surprise, and I am following through. So for those of you who don't know, hi I am currently studying fashion. I have been for the past four years, and in my studies, one thing we've learned is how to do flat sketches. I found that I loved doing these, so sometimes I do them on my own for various ideas I have. One of these ideas that had come to me was to make gown concepts based on all of the BVB albums and eventually the EPs, so, that's what this is. You can view the full collection below, and under the cut are close ups of each gown and some insight into my thought process for each, enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First up is We Stitch/Re-Stitch These Wounds. Since these albums are companions to each other, I wanted to make one gown that combined aspects of both. Fun fact this was actually one of the last gowns I conceived because oh boy did I struggle with the silhouette on it. Anyway, to the gown itself, the most obvious motif is the lacing calling back to the idea of stitches, featured on the side panels, the neck, and on the corset belt. Then, on the detachable cape and matching choker are embellishments made to look like eyes, which relates to the eye motif found on the original We Stitch cover. The colors are then picked from the Re-Stitch cover, since by the point I did this gown I had already done quite a bit of black and wanted to go in a different direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Set The World On Fire, or as I have lovingly dubbed this gown, Set My Computer On Fire because Adobe Illustrator crashed a grand total of three times while figuring out this gradient. Now my ORIGINAL plan for this one was to have the entire gown be one gradient from black at the top to fire colors at the bottom (think Katniss' Mockingjay dress but like mid-transformation). Illustrator uh... did not like that because each of those wing shapes is separate and complicated, hence the crashing. Instead, each wing shape has the fire-colored gradient which I ended up liking better. Obviously the wings are a reference to both Fallen Angels (obviously) and The Legacy ("on leather wings"). Then, the sort of tattered belt and choker are there to be callbacks to the acrylic paint the band wore on their bodies during this era.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is my beloved Wretched And Divine. For this one, I didn't take inspiration from the album cover so much as I did the Wild Ones' outfits, particularly the Prophet (to the surprise of no one). In those outfits you obviously see use of mainly black with a lot of asymmetrical elements. The collar of the gown, for example, references the collar of the Prophet vest in the In The End MV. The armpiece, on the other hand, is a twofold reference. It references both the strips hanging off of his belt in the In The End MV but it also references the feather armband Andy wore during I believe it was Download 2012 if I'm not mistaken. This one was very fun to play with the various elements and just kinda go nuts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Black Veil Brides from 2014. I will be the first to admit I struggled heavily with this one. I feel like this album is one of their most stripped back, so I was struggling on how to represent the different aspects. I eventually turned to the album cover again for inspiration. The tired skirt is a reference to the rubble pile that the gargoyle stands on, while the mesh sleeves and chest are reminiscent of the skyscraper ruins in the background, using a large, square mesh to evoke that building skeleton look. Finally, the silver belt with the circle clasp is a reference to the eclipse happening on the cover, and the color scheme is evoking the album's grayscale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we have bestie beloved Vale. Now stick with me, this is the most conceptual of all the gowns. So with Vale, whenever I listen to it, I always get two kinda ideas from it: the idea of feeling like a ghost and the imagery of being chained down to something. It’s hard to translate into 2D but if it were real, it would be made of some really light and flowy fabric (something like a semi-sheer chiffon for anyone else who knows fabric) and each layer of fabric is a different color from the album cover (you can see it at the bottom there as well as on the open sleeves). This is where that "ghost" idea comes in, that weightlessness. Then, being weighed down is represented by the chain belt, with the sleeves are connected in the back to that top chain detail on the collar and I imagine there would be chains back there too. Essentially, I wanted to play with those dualities of feeling like you're floating away while still being chained down by something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally for the full albums is The Phantom Tomorrow. This was actually the first gown that I made in this mini collection because I had such a clear idea of what I wanted since TPT has some of the most obvious visual motifs in the form of the scarlet cross. This gown is actually two parts, the gown itself and the cape/collar. The silhouette is based off of both the girl's dress in the TPT music videos and of Andy's jacket in the Scarlet Cross MV. You then obviously have the motif of the cross cutting through the center of the gown. The cape is then a result of me wanting to allude to the idea of wings (because of the Blackbird) without wanting to do something obvious like feathers. Then, of course, I needed to incorporate Andy's slutty priest collar as a crucial element. Finally, the rosary belt was added to both break up the red and to add a little extra blasphemy because we can always do with more (sweet) blasphemy (Get it??? Wrong album I know but I had to)
Now, onto the EPs. So I actually did not do these at the same time as the albums. I did the albums in October 2022, before The Mourning came out. Once I finished those, I didn't really have any ideas for the EPs so I just let them be. Then in March of this year, I had basically an epiphany about them, like I got out of bed specifically to do a janky sketch so I wouldn't forget my ideas. So, here they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off is, of course, Rebels. Since this is Rebels, I wanted it to look different from every other gown so far, hence the silhouette. The asymmetrical skirt and sleeve allude to going against the grain and not being perfect (y’know, rebelling). The damask pattern on the top of the skirt and sleeve comes from the Coffin video, the women with the candles wear veils that look like they have a sort of damask (tbh, couldn’t tell exactly but they’re Ornate). The center panel of the bodice also has a distinct coffin shape, while the slashed stripes across the bodice reference the chest paint they all wear in that video, it’s sorta striped and almost looks like a ribcage. Hard to tell on here, but it would be almost sliced open with like a peekaboo black fabric beneath it. The colors of the rest of the bodice are then color picked from the jacket on the EP cover. Finally, the chain details come from the chains on the EP cover, and the upside down cross allude to both the crosses in the Coffin video and the fact that Unholy is a song on there, y’know the upside down cross being the opposite of a right side up one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is The Night, aka the first one I had an epiphany on in regards to this set. The purple comes from the EP cover and the videos, obviously. The chains are a part of Andy’s outfits in both MVs, which is also where the crosses on the hem come from, both are on his jacket in both videos. The neck piece is a callback to the streaky paint/makeup Andy has on, and then the X on the bodice is a reference to Lonny’s makeup since it was his first record with the band, I wanted to ensure there was a reference to him. I wanted the X to be a little sharp and almost look painted on. This whole EP has always sounded very sharp to me, so I wanted to channel that in this gown. Kinda just went with the vibes on this one, ended up with this gothic armor sort of look for the neck piece, but it slaps so we're sticking with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And last but certainly not least, The Mourning. I wanted this to be a very big and ornate gown, almost looking heavy. The color scheme, obviously, adheres to the grayscale of both the cover and music videos. The skirt is made to look like panels or pieces of a stained glass window, referencing the rose window in the Saviour II video. The neckline is a modified sweetheart, with the two extrusions made to look like devil horns (cause, Devil, get it). Then the sleeves are twofold- they are reminiscent of angel wings (both Better Angels and the angel on the EP cover) and they represent Saviour II because they’re meant to be big and sweeping, like the song is. Finally, the studs are taken directly from Andy’s jacket in the Saviour II video
And that's it! I hope you guys enjoyed these. I am very proud of how these all came out, definitely one of my biggest projects to date but one that I'll always love!

I know many people have pointed out the lack of focus on Rick and Morty’s relationship this season... but has anyone brought up how there seems to be various parallels and emphasis on Rick and Jerry’s relationship? Yeah, i know that both are intended to be foil of each other, just hear me out:
In the season premiere, episode 1, ¨Solaricks¨ Morty finds himself back in his original dimension- the ¨prime¨ dimension. After some minutes of wandering off he finds the version of his father that he left behind: Cronenberg/Prime Jerry.
Tumblr media
This version of Jerry lost both Summer and Beth and has embraced a nihilistic view similar to Rick’s of ¨nothing matters¨ and not caring about anyone else except his own survival. He calls out his son for leaving him behind and leaves him on his own- in a world he has no idea how survive in. Prime Jerry’s story shares many similarities with protagonist Rick’s backstory: Some time after loosing their wife and daughter they both started to adopt a more pesimistic worldview and became very distant. They started to mainly look after their own selfs, not caring what happens to anyone else.
Moving on to ¨Night Family¨, Jerry tries to be nice to Night Jerry, his night persona, by sending friendly messages to him. The rest of the Smiths makes fun of this, telling Jerry that what he is doing is too silly. In contrast Rick throws a temper tantrum when the Night family asks the Smiths to do a very small favor. This makes things escalate more and more until the Night family wants to take over. Rick doesn’t consider the Night family as people in the bare minimum. The irony comes when Jerry is indirectly the one who saves the Smiths thanks to him being nice to Night Jerry, leading the later to free the Smiths and helping them with escaping.
In ¨Final DeSmithation¨ is about their relationship. Jerry gets infected with this destiny almost god like state that breaks reality rules. Rick gets jealous that this doesn’t involved him at all. He isn’t the center of the issue, nobody is looking for him. Rick expresses his frustration of not having this inmortal like powers that Jerry has. He spends a good chunk of the episode wishing to find the source to this power and save it for himself. On the other hand Jerry isn’t interested in this destiny alien power. He wants it to go away (totally understandable given the context). He doesn’t care about being inmortal. A few times he suggests to Rick to blow up the building instead of exploring it further.
At the end of the story Rick gives up the destiny cookie fortune power and saves Jerry. Rick chooses the well-being of other person over having control for himself, this person being Jerry, someone he doesn’t always see eye to eye. For this Jerry calls Rick ¨friend¨, Rick kinda ruins this but later apologizes for acting like that.
On last point there is ¨Analyze Piss¨. This one is interesting because is one episode that Rick and Jerry kinda reverse their own roles. In this occasion, Rick is the one that chills out and avoids going on an adventure for while until he decides to visit Pissmaster. He ignores his enemies, waiting for them to go away.
Tumblr media
Jerry takes a more active role as he is the one that has the adventure here. He first fights Pissmaster- something that Rick would usually do- and then becomes superhero persona, a thing Rick suggested him not to do because it would make the power of the orb to go to over his head. Jerry later invites his family to go with hih to fight bad guys in space- again in other episodes is Rick the one that does this. Rick gets jealous of Jerry being chosen to use the orb instead of him. He doesn’t get why things turn out well for Jerry. He is angry at the idea of him not being the one with the power.
Things later get more wild when Rick makes himself pass as Pissmaster helping and saving people. For once he is doing something that isn’t to feed his own ego. He is trying to fullfill Pissmaster’s last wish before he commited suicide. However, it could be argued that he is doing this in part because he wants to be seen as a good person- maybe the same way Jerry is seen during the events of the episode. What is it shocking is that when Jerry offers the orb to Rick, he rejects it. Jerry attacks him without knowing that Rick is Pissmaster. For a moment they were acting in opposite roles: Jerry being the one that was fighting for power while Rick not wanting it. This is a cool inverse scenario to ¨Night Family¨ and ¨Final DeSmithation¨
Honestly i find all these parallels intriguing. This season has parallels and development between Rick and Jerry almost in the same level (if not more) that Rick and Morty’s relationship has had. I wonder if the series is setting up something for Jerry or between these two characters. It’s certainly strange they are given so much focus in contrast to the main duo of the show.

Oh! Sorry about that. ^^;
In that case, meet “Bladeless!“
Tumblr media
I... actually still haven’t come up with a real name for him, so that’s just a nickname that’s stuck so far.
Anyways, the basic premise of his character is that he’s a Bisharp who’s moved to the big city, and has figured out how to integrate with human society. He also knows how to speak - kinda like how Meowth does in the anime. Technically he’s still 100% ‘wild,‘ but he carries an old satchel around in order to trick people into thinking that he belongs to someone (plus it’s useful for carrying his things). I kinda doubt any trainer would want to capture him anyways though, since he's missing a HUGE chunk of his attack power with those ruined blades of his.
Personality-wise he’s fairly cool-headed, but on the inside is an unbreakable will to SURVIVE. He’s also very cunning, but I imagined that’s kind of a typical trait of his species. Still, no Bisharp has ever tried to apply their intelligence in the way that he has. He’s also pragmatic, and has a straightforward way of speaking. Still, he’s eloquent enough not to come off as curt. He has an independent nature as well, and doesn’t want to be ‘owned’ by anyone (which is another common trait among Bisharps). He’d rather fend for himself than be taken in by a trainer, but he does appreciate the sentiment of those people who want to take him in. However, he’s not at all introspective, and only thinks more deeply about his own motivations when prompted by someone else.
Also, I tweaked his proportions a bit to give him a bit more individuality. He has broader and pointer shoulderpads, a subtly larger chest, and his eyes are slightly disconnected from his ‘chinstrap‘ (which was originally an error on my part, but I decided I should keep it). If you look closely, I left in the faint outline of how his axe-blade used to look before it got ruined. It’s supposed to be long and straight like a Pawniard’s blade. I also darkened the edges of his eyes a bit in an attempt to add a subtle weariness to his expression, but I don’t think I quite pulled it off... Lastly, the only blade left on his body that even cuts anymore is the retractable one on his left gauntlet (which isn’t even his dominant arm).
He also has a bit of a story so far. He was born in the wild to a female Bisharp who had just established her territory. He and his 4 other siblings were essentially her first batch of Pawniards. When he had evolved, he challenged her for leadership of the pack, but she was much stronger and more experienced than he was, and easily drove him out - leaving him with some deep cuts as a parting gift. If he had stubbornly tried to stand his ground despite his wounds, she DEFINITELY would have killed him. I imagine that the pack dynamics of wild Pawniard & Bisharp can be pretty cutthroat, and evolution doesn’t guarantee survival. The most common death for new Bisharps is being cut down by their former pack leader. Anyways - Bladeless spent quite a while wandering the wilderness, but eventually managed to recruit enough Pawniards to found a territory of his own. Researchers monitoring the area named his pack “Sagittarius,” because its territorial marking resembled Sagittarius’s bow: ♐ (I imagined that since this pokemon lines’ sense of smell is very weak, they mark their territory by cutting symbols into trees and stuff). Things were going alright for Bladeless until that fateful rainy day... He got into a brutal fight with another pokemon (which I haven’t figured out the species of) that destroyed his blades. The ones on his body had been shattered by a shockwave, while the one on his head had been mangled from a blunt strike (or getting smashed against something). He survived, but was badly injured. Because Pawniards don’t follow or obey Bisharp with broken or chipped axeheads, his entire pack abandoned him since they no longer recognized his leadership. In the wild, most Bisharp who lose their blades have their spirit utterly broken, fall into a depressed state, and slowly waste away... But not Bladeless. Even though his future seemed very bleak, he resolved to keep struggling until the very end. Once he had rested enough to walk again, he started wandering around in search of food. One of his fist priorities though was getting out of his old territory, because he knew his rivals would soon get word and quickly snatch it up (and Bisharp have no tolerance for others of their kind lingering inside their territory). From there, Bladeless was able to ward off starvation with the meager amounts of berries he was able to find, but malnourishment began to set in, which caused his colors to permanently dull a bit (which I imagined is a sign of poor/failing health in this Pokemon line). None of the other pokemon living in that area offered him a helping hand either, because his kind had made themselves out as enemies to the local species, and as a result were feared and hated by them. Eventually, Bladeless came across a city, where things started to improve. He was able to sustain himself off of the vermin running around in the alleys, which gave him the protein he needed to recover his vitality.  I also imagined him coming up with a hunting strategy where instead of eating a dubious food scrap he’d find in the trash (and potentially getting sick), he’d instead use it to lure his prey into an ambush. When he wasn’t hunting, he’d stealthily observe the people and Pokemon as they’d go about their day. One thing he noticed was that people in market stalls would give food in exchange for curious little slips of paper and tiny metal discs. However, they wouldn’t take any old thing that matched this description. They had to be specifically marked. Then he tried to figure out where people would even get these objects, and came to the conclusion that generally, they would have to do labor for someone in exchange. However, it would have to be agreed upon by both parties. He kept following this line of reasoning from there. I still haven’t totally decided on what would happen between this and the present, but he eventually learned how to talk (likely by quietly trying to mimic what he’d hear humans say while he’d be watching them), got a job, and even has a tiny, dumpy little apartment. It probably took him years to even get to this point. He’s completely forsaken the wilderness, and no longer feels the need to claim territory and recruit Pawniards. That’s a life that he’s just no longer capable of living anymore. I imagine that even though he knows he would be a laughingstock among the other wild Bisharps, he also knows they wouldn’t have lasted a second in his place.
Something about going through all this has brought about a change in his attitude too. He’s not really sure why, but he’s found himself helping out his pokemon neighbors with things. I think it’s probably because deep down, he knows what it’s like to feel powerless and alone, and he doesn’t like seeing other pokemon going through the same thing. Plus, his ability to speak allows him to give his fellow Pokemon a voice that humans can understand.
Bladeless would go on to build friendships with the humans and Pokemon in his life, but he would also doubt himself a bit. He wouldn’t like it when people would call him ‘nice‘ or ‘kind,‘ because he feels that if those same people had seen what he did, or what he used to be capable of, they would fear and hate him... Just like his old ‘neighbors’ in the wild did. He has killed and eaten dozens of other Pokemon over the course of his life, and he doesn’t want to pretend like it doesn’t matter - even though he was only following his natural instincts. He’s not eaten up by guilt over his past or anything, but now that he’s been cooperating with some of the pokemon species that he used to hunt, it’s started to weigh on his conscience.
Anyways, I guess that’s all I have to say about Bladeless for now. Since I’ve been thinking about Repliforce again, I think Bladeless would pass the ‘Colonel test.’ That is - I think he and Colonel would be fast friends if they ever met. ^^ (Colonel’s also not very familiar with Pokemon, so he probably wouldn’t know that Bisharp aren’t normally supposed to be able to talk. XD)
I also hope his story doesn’t seem too ‘dark‘ for Pokemon. I keep feeling like it’s tone doesn’t quite match the source material, but... at the same time the Pokedex definitely makes dark implications about this pokemon species. It literally says that Pawniard “shred“ their prey - which you would assume to be other pokemon... Doesn’t really evoke the most family-friendly imagery. 😐

while i agree infinite should get his sword back i was referring to pip because you said to ask you about your ocs
OH. Yeah JADBAHFHSHFH In my defense they both have knives and they both deserve to stab someone abt it
ANYWAY. I'm rambling abt both her and my other OC bc they r both so so silly to me (also tragic but mostly silly.)
So basically. I have this other OC, who started as a self insert/sona but who eventually became her own person, named Saturn.
Saturn was raised by some loser cat named Emerald (might change the name later). He's basically an Eggman wannabe except instead of robots he uses actual people. Kinda like he runs his own underground criminal organization. It's fairly successful,, and Saturn (known rn as Agent 27) was one of the top agents there.
(Emerald sucked as a father but that's a whole different can of worms)
The thing is. Having your entire life revolve around being a top agent for a secret criminal organization doesn't exactly leave a lot of room for having friends.
Which is where Pip comes into play!! They met on a mission shortly after Pip was recruited. 27/Saturn was already Familiar with the rest of the jackal squad,, and even saw them as family,, so it wasn't hard for the two to start talking :]
Everytime 27 would have a mission where they had to work with the jackal squad, they were basically stuck together. Both of them thought of each other as Besties, they were just Very Very Good Friends :)
Pip liked 27 bc she was someone her age, something she didn't get to experience all that much in the Jackal Squad, as the youngest. 27 liked Pip bc she was rebellious and wild, something she didn't get to be much due to Emerald and the Organization.
(They absolutely had crushes on each other, but both were too scared to admit it, for varying reasons. Pip didn't want to ruin what they had; 27 was the only friend her age she would ever get to keep, since the squad was always on the move. 27 was terrified of what Emerald might do if he found out.)
Eventually, the Jackal Squad took a job with Eggman! That was great, since the Eggman base was on the way to 27's next mission anyway.
They stopped by on the way there, said hey, hung out for a bit, and left. On the way back, several hours later, they decided to say hi again, except. Well. We all know what happened to the Jackal Squad.
This was horrible for 27 -- The Jackal Squad was the closest thing to a real, loving family they ever had. Not only that, but they never told Pip how they felt. Pip was the only friend they were ever really allowed, and now they were gone.
They watched the tapes, found out it was shadow, and decided she needed revenge. She convinced Emerald to actively join the war, instead of passively participating like he originally planned.
After the war, 27 made the choice to run away from the organization. This was influenced by a lot, but mostly a mixture of lingering grief and her poor treatment. They escaped during the night, changed their name from 27 to Saturn, and cut their hair + changed their clothes into something they actually liked
Eventually, they found Gadget and a now-mostly-redeemed Infinite (now Finn. They were glad to have someone they were used to and familiar with, with all the sudden changes and new things happening to them) Gadget and Finn worked together to teach her how to function in society and how to be their own person
ANYWAY. All this to say I'm very violently revolving Pip and Saturn in my head,, specifically their tragic lesbian love story augh <333333

Her marriage is NOT open. Her and her husband agree they will get a divorce if either cheats, they are against polyamory etc.. Originally she wanted me and the dude to get together, then kind of developed a crush on him. Then me and the dude made out. Fun. Then she got kind of upset and I was like oops.
I will say she messaged him prior to me making out with him late at night when he would be drunk. And he's a flirty dude. She had me read all the messages cause she "may be looking into it". And basically my thought was he was def a little flirty, but it was on the edge of is he flirting or is he being nice or is he joking. It never crossed a line except for one instance that was DEFINITELY flirting that SHE initiated. But then that stopped, it only occurred for 2 weeks. And then I made out with the dude a few months later.
And then immediately after she was kind of pissed. Then she was ok with it. And I was like bet, sorry babe, won't happen again. Cause I hate making my friend upset. He never flirted with her again after me and him made out, so I dont really know if he was intentionally flirting or if he was being charismatic or what. Now she claims she talked to the dude and told him she cares for him like a brother and he responded positively and was like "good! You're like a little sister to me!" And she was happy and says she doesn't have feelings for him anymore. I was like cool ok, but then she is saying he isnt the right guy for me and is trying to set me up with the guy's friend, when I didnt even ask for that??? I was like uh babes, if I want to hook up with someone I'll find my own guy? Also, kinda weird you want me with his best friend? (If you get with the best friend of a guy it ruins your chances of getting with the guy??)
I dont even know this dude well, we were just making out cause we had been flirty, we were both single, and we had been drinking. Don't plan on doing again, though I know she is having a party coming up and I know we will both be there so :/
I was reading all of this like “oh my god” “oh my god!” “OH MY GOD!”
This is enough drama for a lifetime right here. I mean it’s good that they resolved things? Kind of?
This whole story is wild from start to finish tho and I’m laid up here in bed literally drinking tea and reading this like it’s a gossip sheet.

Hey, this is just a little random observation from me, but I notice your take on the Corruption seems to be the only one these days that goes with the old popular theory where the corruption isn't its own entity that eventually overtakes its host's body but rather something that simply corrupts & changes those who it infected while amplifying certain traits of theirs along with some influence from it but not outright actually taking control.
I always prefer this take over the canon one because I feel it makes everything much more interesting, especially how it makes the corrupted more like a wild card of sorts. It also gives everything a more tragic feel to it as well.
A good example of what I mean exactly would be the situation with Otis in your Corruption AU. He fought to the bitter end to protect Morgana from Komet, making absolutely sure that they were able to escape unharmed and most importantly uncorrupted. Even once he was fully corrupted, Otis still didn't give up. He was overwhelmed and pretty much defeated, and yet he still refused to give in.
Then Komet happens to see his true desires through their shared bond with the corruption.
Said desires are nothing terrible on their own. After all, it's normal for one to wanna keep their friends and loved ones safe. His wish for his family to be together and be a happy family again is also a normal one. A bit selfish maybe but hey we all have a bit of selfishness in us and there's nothing wrong with that!
... but then Komet proceeds to use this wish against Otis. He pulls some emotional manipulation on him while he was in his most vulnerable state.
What makes it so tragic is that you made it clear Otis had initially tried to not listen to Komet- tried so so soooo hard to shut his voice out. But Komet... just keeps on talking. Kindly too. Even tells Otis what happened on that day when the Corruption outbreak happened, why exactly he's doing this, and so on. All of this, combined with Otis's own doubts over whether it's even possible for this ruined world to be saved, eventually resulted in Otis believing Komet is right.
And to make this even more heartwrenching here? You made it clear that deep down Otis KNOWS this is wrong and that he's being selfish here but he doesn't care anymore. At this point, all that matters is that he's able to protect his remaining family no matter what if it results in him becoming hated for it.
.... But fortunately for us all, Otis knows better than to try to corrupt Morgana in their current state; as horrible as this will sound, it's a good thing that Morgana was not in a good mental state when Otis found him. So instead of corrupting Morgana to keep them "safe" as he originally planned, Otis instead focuses on protecting Morgana. Sadly that doesn't mean Otis has given up on his original plan but you had stated that Otis will only corrupt Morgana once he's in a muuuuuch better state of mind... and as you added on, that won't be happening any time soon (un)fortunately. So Morgana is safe for the time being.
Ah sorry for the long ramble. Didn't mean to get so carried away here saskjasjk
But anyway, to wrap this all up, your take on the Corruption AU will forever be one of my favorite AUs out there. Thank you for making it again and hope to see more on it in the future one day! But please don't feel obliged to rush to get content out after seeing this! I love your works but I don't want you to force yourself to get content out all because you felt bad there! If you do that then I will give you a gentle bonk on the head, okay? /lh
I'm happy you like my version! Tbh I was kinda eh with the au at first, probably because it was all over my feed when it was in the height of its popularity, but having you guys helped me expand and develop this version more, and now it's fun for me (in a bittersweet way)
Having your inner feelings come out in a possibly chaotic way, gaining powers and altering forms, quick to action when something goes wrong.. and the fact that one person can appear more coherent than another is interesting. I'll probably write out a proper description of my version for the newcomers soon

...So~ wth?
I think I should, like, say~ something~? Like, appropriate~? And not immature~?
This is gonna be more of a general post to people who think it's okay to tell someone to kill themself (holy hell) and, I guess, keep things from getting misunderstood.
First of all,
it's pretty frickin' irresponsibly childish to tell another person to commit suicide. Like, there's no telling how bad their day was, how much that could ruin their mood (and ability to function), or how close they are to that point. Fuck "jokes". That's childish at best.
But here's the thing,
I assumed a person who'd say something like "hang/kill yourself" is just a (childish-ass) kid who doesn't understand wtf they're saying or the affect it can have. Nevermind consequences. That's benefit of the doubt talking (for the most part), and I could be wrong. But let's assume I'm not. Let's assume this is just a (pre-)teen-ass person tellin' a "funny", though. Why? 'Cuase that's what I do when I see mofos talkin' waifus online. "Must be a kid." 'Cause, let's face it, the alternative's not great. At all. Am I correct in that assumption, though? Like, most of the time? ...possibly 😐
Remember that Reddit post
about how a buncha people who got auto-banned from a sub for participating in a teenage sub turned out to be in their 30's+? o_o And they even provided proof. 😑 Yeah, I'm sure that happens. But just like certain arguments online, I tend to lean towards the "they're 14" assumption. Nothin' against 14 year-olds as a demographic in this regard ('cause i know y'all here). There's just... a mentality and understanding that develops as your brain develops and you find yourself in certain shoes. iow: y'all immature 🤷🏿‍♂️
And that brings me to the other matter:
pedophiles. "Some" of these mofos are 20+ year-olds fantasizin' and lustin' over underaged characters. And that's its own issue that I'm not even tryin'a get into beyond what I already said.
But wait,
why did I censor this rude-ass harasser out in every image? Well, I was curious to get some kinda confirmation on their age (and mentality)... so I kept scrollin'. All I'mma say is 1) they claim to be in their late teens and 2) they clearly aren't doin' well mentally. Like, they ~just might be the kinda person who's too close to that edge to endure online harassment. Ya feel? And I don't need that shit. Fuck y'all. And fuck them especially. Movin' on.
Ah, and I should clarify something.
Whether we like it or not pre-teens are gonna engage sexually with eachother. Hopefully, it's consentual (and enjoyable for all parties involved). Whether or not they're doing it as a byproduct of trauma is honestly between them, their therapist(s), and whoever they're close to. All that is to say that kids, like adults, can be into some wild/weird shit. It's called sexuality. Whether or not they should act on it, especially at that age, is different conversation.
But wait, you still haven't explained yourself.
Well, I feel like I already did as much explainin' as I need to tbh. Just in case y'all didn't catch it, though... my original reblog was directed at underaged people who were into Asuka. fuckin' duh
. . . But why'd you reblog in the first place
considering their addendum? 'Eh, that don't even matter at this point.

Stuff I noticed genshin impact has in common with (mostly) breath of the wild, unsorted and in varying degrees of /srs and /j
Cell-shaded open world with burnable grass (mind you dendro only came out like 2 days ago while this was a thing since the very beginning)
Starting with a shot from a cliff overlooking the world and focusing on the big building in the distance (though that might be a general open world trope? I‘m not sure)
The hilichurl huts originally looked like the stone skulls bokoblins reside in
Hilichurls in general pretty much just being bokoblins minus the oni-based color coding (but + screwed up lore, wth hoyo)
Random instances of coming across NPC’s who have to be saved from monsters (something that, like most similarities, primarily applies to Mondstadt)
You can’t pet the dogs aside from feeding them but they still adorably look at you with their hopeful gaze, showering you with love you know you can never give back ;-;
Why fishing rod when jump in good for catch too
Ancient but advanced civilization that became ruined and forgotten prior to the events of the game due to a calamity, but you still find remnants of, also the mc is somehow connected to it but barely remembers anything aside from a few flashbacks
Protag and the other short blonde with super special powers get separated by the catastrophic event that made the world the way it currently is, protag‘s goal is to find them again and travels though the whole world to do so
Protag and the other short blonde with super special powers get completely screwed over by a deity (you choose if it’s Demise or Hylia seriously I know Zelda not awakening her powers early enough had nothing to do with Hylia but she could at least talk to the girl smh)
Giant ancient robot with a single glowing eye from said ruined civilization roaming the lands and exclusively targeting people to kill (also, ruin guards originally aimed at you with a beam before shooting lasers)
The ancient lost civilization has its own even more ancient lost civilization
Floating elemental wizard monster with a wand that can teleport around and has way too much fun messing with you (and Abyss mages sound similar to wizzrobes too)
The world may or may not be stuck in some sort of time loop
Balloon-like enemy that hides in the ground and pretends to be a plant only to jump out and attack you
Round elemental enemy slime that uses its own element as a semi-shield and basically just attacks by jumping at you (fire/water/ice/electro slimes = red/blue/light blue/green chu) yea I got nothing for anemo slimes
Blue dragon that used to be chill but got corrupted by weird poison goo blood from the monsters, said poison goo leaving the dragon discolored, your goal being to cleanse it from them
Snowy mountain area near start point where everything is super cold and you can practically only survive by lighting fires, drinkeating spicy soup, or eating all your dishes to keep the hp up
Look at Noelle‘s shield, now at Daruk‘s protection, now back to Noelle‘s shield. Her design themes are maid- knight - roses, why does it look like that
Cooking makes you indestructible and is (hilariously) usable mid-fight. Also mc is a cooking god for no reason
They tweaked the cooking animation by the time it launched but the beta one gave off major 2D botw cooking vibes
Monsters wanna kill you but so does the evil organisation from another country with pretty extreme weather, except half of them are kinda dorky when they’re not trying to murder you
The battle music is fire
Mineral that glows turquoise (granted it’s different shades but still-), is considered pretty rare, and is said to have obtained their glow though influences from the world (elements/souls)
Ghosts are real and sometimes they glow blue. The same shade of blue as the spooky glow mineral, no less
The ancient glowy eye robots drop their core as loot (they look a bit similar too)
Praying to statues of deities = upgrading your stamina by giving them enough of a certain collectible
Tiny cute magical wood forest creatures that can‘t be seen by most people who can be randomly found across the land and you get stuff for doing their mini quests
Said forest creatures living in a village in their magical forest that usually can’t be accessed to begin with because magic prevents that (granted the village gives off more Kokiri vibes than Korok but they’re just evolved kokiri anyways so-)
The original animation for climbing was pretty much just Link‘s
Land southwest of the starting area has a (seemingly) bottomless hole that leads into the abyss, literally, in both cases
Lamp grass = Blue nightshade, they look the same and even glow blue at night
Glaze lily = silent princess, white-blue lilies from ancient times that became incredibly rare over time and are now considered practically extinct in canon (but are pretty easy to find in-game)
Ancient structures that have been inaccessible and glowing in warm colors for centuries only turn blue though activation by the protag; they also function as teleport points
ancient structures incorporating star constellations
Ancient instrument used throughout the world to play Magic Songs learned across the land that each interact with designated objects/places in different ways; usually needing around 5-8 notes to play
Playable short king used to be part of a group of 5 with colorcoded powers but all his friends died a long time ago because of evil stuff and he‘s the only survivor ok this one‘s obviously not serious lmao
It ain’t botw but. Small travel companion who does all the talking to fill up the void by the gameplay- silent protag (genshin give Traveler a voice more often smh) and is also probably linked to the major story in some way (really tho, except for Navi every single companion has major ties to the plot in some way). Also I‘m pretty sure Paimon gets called a fairy at least once at one point?
More stuff probably
Interestingly enough, the most noticeably direct similarities can be found in Mondstadt (and Liyue) , aka the region that‘s been here since the very start of the game, and more importantly, before the game was launched.
TLDR it’s doing it’s own thing now for the most part but there’s no way this game didn’t start off "heavily influenced“ at the beginning lol

4/4/23
I misread the date of an entry I put on here the other day as "4/4/23". Like... one of those "I could've sworn, clear as day" misreading as you're clicking through windows kinda thing. Welp, lets see if this is going to be a memorable entry or if that was just a weird random moment.
Today I did... very little. And I'm pretty glad. I mean, I worked until 4 in the morning last night. So I gave myself permission to just... chill.
Of course, I went and wrote a 2 page script for my desire path project... You know. Because I was going to "chill"... But honestly, it was a good thing to do. I just decided to stream of consciousness it, like I do here. And it came out pretty damn good.
I listened to this podcast with Dan Carlin a few weeks ago, I really like his Hardcore History series a lot. He had Rick Rubin on, and they were talking about doing audio books and recordings of scripted stuff, and how it's so hard to like... find your voice when you're reading scripted stuff, versus improvising. Which is super true. And I struggled with that a bit today too. It always sounds a bit like I'm reading, like I'm forcing emotions, like I'm a little ahead of what I'm saying or something. But I'm sure, to a listener, they barely notice it at all. Because of that... I'm actually a bit on the fence with this. I decided to let myself just wing it and see what came out, and that usually sounds approximately right, at least like syntax-wise. When I write like this, I emulate my vocal speech, and I've gotten in a really good habit of writing like this... with breath spacing and emphasis and whatnot. So, reading back a script, it's pretty easy to get what I was going for. But... it still feels... forced. I guess. It's not the same, you know?
So I'm tempted to maybe... take down the bulletpoints from each paragraph, the main things I want to hit on, and then just hit record and start talking. I mean, that's how I got the original script, it was literally that process, and now I read it back and I don't see a single problem with it. And that was first try. So... I dunno...
So yeah, with the video itself, honestly... I'm not really sure what I'm going to do for B-roll. I might go to one of the local college campuses and find an actual desire path in the wild and film there. And also go to a nearby park and film a real walk in the woods. It's a good start at least. I can see clips in my head, but I keep envisioning it much more complex than I think I can pull off reasonably.
I'm gonna level here. It's me being intimidated by the concept of not using footage or stills grabbed from the internet. It's the concept of having to produce all the footage and graphics myself. Alone. I mean, if I had a friend to help out with filming, or even to go with me, this could be a fun day. And it still might. But yeah, that's where my whole social deprivation thing sneaks its fingers in and starts torturing me. "This would be such a fun thing to do with other people". That even snuck its way into my script! It's how the thing fucking closed!
"In my head, I picture this project… but with… 10 shrines.  50.  100.  And all the connections between them, walked and pathed by dozens of people.  Each with their own stories and experiences, each with their own unique imprints on the environment.  That's a colossal undertaking that I currently lack the resources and technology for… but one that I would love to take on some day.  I think the end result would be stunningly beautiful."
I swear, this hunger for social contact just pervades every aspect of my life. It corrupts things, it ruins things. But it's like... as important as eating and sleeping, so like... how can you ignore it? It makes so many small things in my life into such huge factors. It ramps up the intensity of every minor social interaction by like... several orders of magnitude. It makes everyday social interactions like making eye contact in the hallway and nodding your head into like... giant major life decisions. They legit feel that way when you haven't seen a human face in over a week. I mean that.
Ooooo story time. This was the first time I experienced --- okay, I'm stopping myself, it's definitely not my first time experiencing social isolation, that was probably freshman year of college... and I had a roommate... (figure that shit out)... --- let's say... extreme social isolation. That sounds more like I'm talking about a bag of Doritos or something. Cool. I was... wow, I can actually timeline this pretty accurately... so my relationship with my ex from college ended around... 2010? The summer after we graduated college. It took me about 4 years to be ready to date again. Because that's what it's like to be me. So, I think it's safe to say that this hike was in 2014. I had finally decided to go on a date with someone that I met on a dating site, she was from the Midwest and was doing god knows what out here. She was renting an apartment at a ski resort during the off-season, in summer. It was not a good match, let's just put it that way. I had been planning my thru-hike of a section of a major trail nearby for a while. That summer, I had been training rigorously, because... I hike barefoot. Building up to the trip itself, a few weeks before, I was working my way up to 6-8 miles a day, every day. It ended up being a good pace. I remember this girl because she was supposed to drop me off at the trailhead, and she fucking ditched... by breaking up with me. That day. Yeah. Super sweet sendoff. So, my mom dropped me off.
I got a shit ton of Clif Bars and granola and shit, I had my big army surplus rucksack with zero back support, I don't even think it had a chest strap. Oh my god, I remember, it didn't and I had to... XD... I would take my shirt off and tie it between the straps to distribute the weight across my chest! This was before I got my dog, man... So yeah, that was like... my first time in complete isolation. Night one, after about... an online calculator is saying about 9 miles... I made camp for the first time. I was on the top of a mountain, basically. I made camp late, I was expecting to make it to an actual shelter, but I was about a mile shy when it started getting dark. I found a clearing, and while scavenging in the low light for some kind of wood... I found tons of fresh moose droppings. All over the place. And it was like... August, I think? Fuckin spooked me real bad. I kept hearing shit moving out in the woods, ugh.
I remember waking up that morning at dawn after sleeping pretty crappy and looking around and just seeing fog in all directions. I was literally inside a cloud. It was cold and wet and I just hoofed it to the shelter nearby to get water. God, I can feel the cold wet rocks under my feet just memory-flashing back there, good lord.
My hike ended up being 3 days total, about 25 miles. At the time, it was probably the longest I had been in complete isolation, and I had seen a decent amount of people in passing. I think what really made that another level though... compared to like... my isolation the past few years? Was the fact that I had zero entertainment, zero distractions. It was just me... and my head... and the ground under my feet... and the weight of my pack... and the sweat... all day long. And honestly, I could take it. It wasn't that bad. That said, I was on benzos at that point, pretty sure... so... grain of salt. XD
I ended up tapping out after a big series of mountains. I had my friends (at the time) come and pick me up, cashing in my one phone call I was allowing myself to bring a phone for. My ankles were giving out. After all of that, it wasn't even my feet burning out that made my hike end... it was my ankles. Probably the weight, honestly. Because I trained hiking distance, but not with weight really, not that much weight at least.
So I guess the reason I'm telling this story was... when I met them... It was insanely overwhelming. Every time I met a person on the trail it was insanely overwhelming. And what I noticed with that... that "cabin fever" kind of effect... is that it tends to off-put others as well? I can be much more animated and intense, I guess? I'm sure if you've ever encountered someone coming out of extreme isolation, you probably know what I'm talking about. Like dangling a steak in front of a starving dog or something. That kind of intensity. It freaks people out. And that... I really don't like making people feel that way. At all. I don't like having that effect. So... the combination of those factors: 1) lack of recent social experience adding anxiety, 2) overwhelming sensory experience, 3) them being freaked out by my intensity, 4) my insecurity about being intense... That's a 4x combo, that's a lot of shitty factors all swirling around. And every single one of those factors are natural effects that take a very conscious effort to override. And I have no choice but to go and expose myself to them. The longer I am away from people, the longer I put it off, the more intense it gets! It's like a goddamn chinese finger trap! Ugh.
So yeah, isolation and exile really fuck with people. That's a big part of why the WHO was very explicitly telling people "You need to check in on people who might be isolated, it's very important." Motherfuckers have no idea how serious that shit is. And I want to say this outright - I have tons of experience being isolated. From a very young age, too. So... I have a huge natural advantage to be able to tolerate this more than others. Most people crack much sooner, from what I've observed, so like... this really isn't anything to fuck around with. Just, for the record, I guess.
So like... yeah. It's not surprising that me saying "other people" keeps sneaking its way into my projects and whatnot. It would make my life so much easier. Like, think of it this way. I just did that path project where I did 100 runs from one location to another. By myself. Screenshotted it, by myself. Drew the paths, by myself. Exported 101 images one-by-one, by myself. Redrew them by hand one by one, by myself. Edited, smoothed the strokes and finetuned each one of the 100, one by one, by myself. How much more do you think I would have gotten done in the same amount of time if I had... one person helping me with one part of that? XD
It constantly feels just out of reach.
I just... don't know how to reach out to people. Like... I don't know where, or how. I know what to say, kinda, I can fumble through it, but I don't know to whom, and in what forum. Post on Instagram? I haven't posted there since October. No one who follows there would be interested in working with me, I guarantee it. I mean that. I would put money on it.
So... my recent goal has been to find an artist community. Where I can meet and socialize with other artists locally. Maybe not even to get help with projects, maybe just to have someone to fucking talk to who is even remotely like me. I think it would be good, if I can find one. It feels like most groups are like... focused towards exclusively women or LGBTQ or something, and I haven't really found a group that I think would be welcoming towards me, honestly.
So yeah, I went on a huge-ass tangent there... XD Story-time tends to do that...
I started prepping the hoodie for the natal chart addition, I should be good to start adding in outline sections for that tomorrow. I chilled and watched MrMoon tonight and had a good time. Kinda just hung up my hat and watched the stream. And there was someone in chat raging about a running joke in stream - a reference to the movie "Donnie Darko", which was one of my favorite movies growing up, from the character Cherita Chen. She would say "chut up", which was like... her catch phrase. And the reference to that film and all the associations with that type of film, the reference to the line and the tone and image... like... it's a clear reference, an inside joke for people who have seen the movie, and someone is teasing the streamer, and he says "chut up", and they get it.
And this dude came in hot. And started making accusations of fucking racism, and saying "I'm Asian, this is offensive, someone needs to take a stand against this!" And... I started to notice that like... okay, there were over 1300 viewers. Like... no one was responding to him. They were just ignoring him. They were watching the fucking show! XD And this guy actually goes to the lengths of writing a paragraph and highlighting it in chat, tagging the streamer and everything. And I'm saying this right now, I was looking around like... "where are the fucking mods?" This guy is like... in someone's chat... screaming outrage about a long-standing inside joke in the stream. It's like straight-up heckling, I remember people used to get fucking escorted out by security for doing that shit. Like... just leave. If you don't like the humor? Just leave! Just literally click any other link. Let Twitch investigate this guy if you truly, honestly think he's indoctrinating a new anti-Asian hate group or whatever weird accusation you're extrapolating from a movie reference. Good lord, man.
The funny thing? I remember teasing my ex a bit because sometimes she would mix up sh and ch? Very subtly, very rarely. Residual from being raised in a family that was half Latvian, half Brazilian. And I mean... both immigrants half/half. So... I don't remember which parent that accent slip came from, but I would strongly wager it was the South American mother. But neither of them were Asian! So it's not like you could even really say it was specifically done to be derogatory or "hateful" towards Asian people, it's not even a trait specific to Asians. And, the most important part of all, there is absolutely nothing "hateful" about a retrospective, nostalgic callback to a memorable character. It's literally honoring that character, bringing it back into the social conversation. You think you're doing that character a favor by hiding her? Burying her in obscurity? Because you want to take offense to someone mimicking and referencing a fictional character? And react to it by literally saying "it's basically like using a slur." You're just picking a fight, man. For real. Making a joke that has nothing to do with anyone's race... is not hateful. Pouncing on someone and accusing them of being a racist? That is 100% hateful. 100% fueled by hate, and a thirst for some form of "vengeance" or "justice".
Like... that character, Cherita, was a really brave portrayal of an actual severely bullied kid... It really broke the mold of how Hollywood would shy away from actually showing what real bullying looked like, and what actual emotionally scarred people looked like and acted like in a highschool setting. It was a big step forward for entertainment. And this motherfucker thinks that character was an "Asian stereotype"? Because she had a bit of an accent or something? Way to cheapen the character, dude.
Ugh, it just threw off the whole vibe of a really tense situation in RP. I wish I didn't get so affected by stuff like this. But I mean it, witch-hunting and hateful accusations... they really deeply upset me. Really really bad shit has come from those things historically. Really bad shit. And it's like I feel all the ripples from the past when stuff like that happens. When I see and feel that kind of energy coming out. Retribution, justice, vengeance, righteousness. It just upsets me. So I guess I had to get that out.
But yeah, the day was good. Low key, chill, and good. I don't know if the salt crystal is going to work, but I put one of the seed crystals into a plastic milk jug lid with some solution and... we'll give it about a week and see what comes of it. Who knows, worth a try.
I also decided to join this streamer's Discord, so... I have some kind of social group that's relevant to my current interests there. I really should find an art Discord that I can socialize in somewhere. I just... have no idea where to even start looking, honestly.
Bed time.

...you have opened my eyes to a vast universe of VintageBeef lore that I was unaware of. I knew about the New Hermit Order, of course, and the UHC invention, and I've watched a few of his CTM things but -- I will take all the info and lore you feel like giving out because Beef is amazing and my knowledge is so small.
Vintagebeef my beloved <3
So the thing is, right, until about 2016 I only watched two (2) youtubers- Vintagebeef for Minecraft and aDrive for Pokemon (and funnily enough both of them are named Dan irl). So I've watched most of Beef's videos over the years and have a general knowledge of most of his stuff, except because it's been like a decade I don't remember where most of the lore comes from XD
The thing with him is that he doesn't do Lore tm the way other mcyters often do lore- he doesn't have an extensive RP series to draw from like Grian, doesn't have a solo world with steadily increasing amounts of lore like Etho or Zisteau, and while he's played on SMPs and been involved in storylines before it's not really the focus of his episodes unlike with Evo or Legacy or Empires
So where does that leave us?
IRL, Beef always has multiple series running at the same time. Often he's playing on an smp while doing a singleplayer, often modded, series as well as a CTM or modpack with a group of friends. For example, right now he's playing on Hermitcraft, doing weekly Pixelmon and Building a Zoo episodes, and a CTM map with Slip. And to me, this translates to one thing: Beef is an adventurer. He travels frequently- he explores a world and when he decides he's done, he leaves for the next one. That's the basis of my personal interpretation of his series and his character for my writing.
Ok so reading this back, this got extremely long and didn't explain much in the way of lore, somehow? If anyone has any additions to add please do so, I am very definitely leaving out a lot and would love to see what other lore people remember and are using for Beef! I didn’t include the Hermitcraft stuff since my memory of season 4 is blurry (his base was themed after the Martian, that much I know, and he and Iskall were buddies :D) and most of the s5 NHO lore is best watched from Bdub’s perspective from what I remember, and the only s6 stuff is a single line in Hermitgang and then the Area 77 arc with its possibility of an NHO reunion which we did not get rip. And s7 of course had the cloning machine and also the Podzol Party as the main lore. So all the original rambling is still below the cut though it is very long, and I'm gonna bullet point the main stuff here instead:
Actual canonical things:
Invented UHC and was the only survivor of the first ever uhc (Mindcrack UHC s1)
Married to an ender dragon (one of the UHCs I think), later father to a different dragon (Mindcrack season 3? I think?)
Might not have legs if you choose to take that joke as canon (Mindcrack s2)
Was a wizard (RAD)
is a zookeeper (Building a Zoo)
Had a wife and kids (Sims in Minecraft)
Part of the Trial of the B Team court case (Mindcrack)
NHO founder, founder of the Podzol Party (Hermitcraft)
Created a cloning machine that sort of works (Hermitcraft)
Played the Forest which is I believe the first time he and Keralis played together (look up the trigger warnings for this one, it's a horror game)
Was the creator/owner of Sourceblock SMP (featuring some familiar faces if you know Legacy, Empires, or MCC) and there is literal magic from a mysterious sourceblock of water that teleports people and summons mobs and probably more stuff that I haven't seen yet since I'm still watching it myself
Things you can infer:
Good with animals (Life in the Woods, Pixelmon, Ark)
Is a car nerd (irl and all of the car games he's played)
Is a highly experienced adventurer who has traveled through dozens of worlds both vanilla and modded, across multiple dimensions (Twilight Forest, the Aether, the Betweenlands, Limbo), completed dozens of monuments, fought in blood sports, survived apocalypse after apocalypse, tamed dinosaurs, and played a lot of prop hunt and golf with your friends
If you're looking for what to watch for lore purposes, I'd say the Mindcrack UHCs and Team Canada's RAD series are pretty good, definitely Sourceblock and HC s5, plus the Diversity CTM maps and Ruins of the Mindcrackers maybe? And Mindcrack Prank Wars for the chaos and the origin of Team Canada. And if you can handle horror than the Forest is fun and if you don't do horror you can watch the Pojkband play golf or prop hunt they're hilarious I love them sm I want a Pojkband reunion So Bad
Beef's first series was a singleplayer series in beta 1.4_01 though he had played the game extensively before that, and was a big fan of Guude, having watched his own Minecraft videos. The series was functionally a hardcore one where if he died Beef would delete the world and start again! I haven't actually Watched this series so idk if he died or how often lmao. When Guude made Mindcrack, which was btw one of the very first Minecraft SMPs, he also hosted a competition for people to join, and Beef submitted a video (which is still viewable on his channel I believe!) and won, and was added to Mindcrack in season 2 :D (fun fact, Guude said that even if Beef hadn’t won he would have added him anyway)
Two running jokes emerged from Mindcrack- pulling a Vintagebeef and Beef doesn't have legs. The first is a reference to Beef dying of fall damage (I believe the exact instance was him trying to jump into his swimming pool and failing spectacularly) and after the incident, every time someone died of fall damage they were pulling a Vintagebeef. The second joke comes from Guude, who joked that the reason Beef wasn't going to a convention was because he didn't have legs, and then he pranked Beef's base by building a giant pair of legs at the entrance to his castle so you had to walk between them to get into the base. This joke has long since died and both Beef and Guude feel pretty bad about it iirc because there were people who genuinely thought Beef was disabled and were emailing him supportive messages and stuff oops. So if you go looking on the Salad or find old Mindcrack fics, you might see references to Beef having prosthetic legs!
Mindcrack also brought about the creation of several Player groups- Team Nancy Drew, Team Canada, and GOB to name a few relevant to Beef. Team Nancy Drew consists of Beef, Pauseunpause, Guude, and Baj, who formed to investigate a prank on one of the members but I forget who. They're named Nancy Drew after the detective! Team Canada also formed in retaliation to pranks, with it consisting of Beef, Etho, and Pause, the three Canadian members on the server (not including Adlington who moved to Canada but never joined the group). There was also a Team America who pranked them with American flags everywhere. GOB is Guude, OMGChad, and Beef, who played stuff like the Ragecraft, Pantheon, and Monstrosity ctms together but that's way down the line lol
Team Nancy Drew is also notable for inventing UHC. It was Beef's brainchild but it was the four of them who first played it! The first UHC had the four of them working to kill the dragon with no natural regen, with everyone dying but Beef, who "won" the UHC. The second uhc was still dragon focused and iirc is where Beef married the dragon? Memories are hazy but they do kill the dragon in this one I think. UHC was then revamped as a pvp event and became a regular Mindcrack game every few months, featuring most of the Mindcrackers and several special guests, including Dinnerbone, who as we know Thanos-snapped Doc's arm out of existence as a result of Doc killing him in one of them
In one of the seasons of Mindcrack, Beef invited swedish Mindcracker and good friend Anderzel to go caving with him and invented ABBA Rules caving, where the winner takes it all. ABBA Rules is a game where each ore (and also dungeon loot like nametags) is assigned a point value and the person with the most points at the end wins and gets to keep all the stuff collected from the game.
In Mindcrack season 3?, Beef punched the ender dragon in an... awkward area, so when the dragon died and left the egg behind, Guude said Beef was the father of the egg XD I don't remember if I watched s3 so I have no idea if anything Happened with this concept but *history of the world voice* you could make lore out of this!
So Team Canada has played a Lot of CTM maps (which fun fact were pretty much invented by another Mindcrack member, Vechs, with his Super Hostile series! Super Hostile has a bunch of things called "Zistonian", which are references to another Mindcrack member Zisteau, who has a very wild singleplayer series with even wilder lore but I digress). In Ruins of the Mindcrackers, they had a running joke that Beef was Etho and Pause's mom, which is a joke we can leave in the past actually /lh. They also played all the Diversity maps, Sky Factory, Terra Restore, Uncharted Territory uhhh and a couple more ctms and adventure maps! Each map kinda has its own story so in Diversity 3 for example they were trapped in a simulation? I think? Team Canada also recently played the Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons modpack, aka RAD, in which Beef was a wizard with a magic staff that could do anything from summon lightning to control hostile mobs.
Sourceblock SMP is a vanilla survival 1.14 series that ran for one season and the series starts with each of the Players being drawn to a strange sparkling water source that, once they touch it, brings them to the Sourceblock world. It also summons a giant zombie at one point. There's probably more lore for this series but like I said I haven't watched it all the way through yet
He has a Patreon server called VintageCraft and has done a series or two on there as well, and played a few UHCs with them, so lore that how you will!
Beef also played a few popular mods, notably Pixelmon, Life in the Woods, and Feed the Beast, with LitW being singleplayer and the other multiplayer. He's also recently played the Zoo and Wild Animals mod a lot. He did a short series with the Minecraft Comes Alive mod where he married one of the villagers and had two children, so that's canon now :D he’s played a Lot of Pixelmon starting when the mod first came out iirc (he chose Turtwig in his first series and built a Grass gym, then made a Normal gym in another series in uhh 2016) and he still plays to this day. Quite a few Hermits played on his Pixelmon servers with him, like Wels, Etho, Iskall, Stress, Slip, Zueljin, and also Guude and Phedran (a Mindcrack adjacent player and creator of the LitW modpack) and a few Mindcrackers on the older servers
Mindcrack and friends played a lot of other games too- 7 Days to Die, Ark Survival Evolved, Unturned, to name a few, so you can pull a lot of lore out of these as well. Speaking of friends and non-Minecraft games, Beef teamed up with Pause, Keralis, and Slip (a former Hermit) to play the horror game the Forest, which saw them stuck on an island trying to survive against terrifying mutated human... things. They played it a few times as the game updated but as afaik it's the first time Beef played with Keralis and possibly Slip and since the game starts with the Player's airplane crashing, that could totally be how Beef first met them in-universe
I... think? that’s everything I mentioned in the tags? There is probably way more stuff I’ve forgotten that stems from inside jokes and things that happen within each series, but I hope that was a) helpful and b) at least somewhat comprehensible lmao

spacebat adora is gross don't do this to my girl
one of the major things about fandom is going in canon divergent directions/making AUs. also death of the author. also adora was originally made by Filmation, the 2018 reboot is just someone else's interpretation...like, y'know, a fandom creation but it had the backing of major companies. i'd say like other fictional characters, adora really does belong to everyone who's felt moved by her in different ways, there's no actual monopoly on her.
also for every anti message i get in my inbox i feel like releasing another spacebat!adora into the wild.
Tumblr media
though maybe i can keep this in the "spacebat adora" tag, it's like a tag now, i think. she's also pretty different herself, not just her design--different backstory, different ship, will be ultimately happier because of the differences in her AU world (after dealing with/starting to deal with some other AU-specific issues she has--but also from the start she's just like, happy, probably about as happy as Imp kinda tends to be). she can stay in "spacebats" tag, "horde clones" tag. nickname her? i think just "Dora" sounds cute.
LOL what if i made her into an AU version of Despara (Despara is an alter ego of Adora from, like, spin-off material related to original canon I think), but it's more an ironic name because she's far more a ray of sunshine ultimately (while still having her own AU-specific issues). if c*tra gets handed a BS/shitty "redemption arc" in the reboot while in original canon she's just a baddie, I can have a Despara who's more a ray of sunshine while being Hordak's hybrid-clone. Desdora?? LOL maybe just Dora. Dory short for Adora too? Just call her Isadora for another close-sounding alternative?
*googles 'Despara' again for a refresher* Ooh, that would be even more appropriate actually.
Possible other nicknames for Despara: Desa, Des, Despa, Para, Desy

Hordak: Name a more iconic duo than my crippling fear of abandonment and my anxiety. I’ll wait.
Entrapta: You and me!!
Hordak, tearing up: Okay.

Spacebat!Adora, or an AU where Adora wasn’t a baby Hordak found in a field but a viable clone-hybrid he made by combining a sample of his genes and preserved DNA* he scavenged from a First Ones ruin. (*Hordak stumbled on preserved samples of Mara’s DNA from the ruins of a First Ones medical facility.) Hordak got Attached while his creation was a baby and abandoned attempts to try to use this one as a new body for himself in favor of having a new little brother (Hordak has trouble articulating that he also misses his clone brothers, but he does)--until Adora says she wants to be his little sister, which he immediately accepts.
Actually, Hordak got attached to the first two viable clone-hybrids out of his attempts to make a new body--Adora and Imp. Imp proved to be a viable clone-hybrid just a few days after Adora. Imp contains a different mix of DNA--like in what’s generally been accepted as canon for Imp, Imp is an attempt to clone Hordak combined with DNA from Etherian bat-like creatures.
Imp was largely hardier than Adora, who behaved more like an average First Ones/Etherian child; but as the years progressed Adora continued to physically grow more than Imp. Later Hordak hypothesizes that this might be the extent of Imp’s growth, while Adora sometimes wonders if Imp might just age differently/age slower (a.k.a. he might age like Baby Yoda).
Hordak pushed experimentation when creating Adora, combining his and the scavenged First Ones DNA in such a way that his creation was somewhat less a clone and more a new hybrid or “offspring.”
Due to *Mara’s DNA:
-Adora’s voice is high-pitched/like her voice in canon. Again, because of the way Hordak combined samples of his DNA and Mara’s, Adora is produced more as a new individual combining the two, and ends up with a voice different from Mara’s.
-There are some differences in Adora’s facial shape and size (this may change later as she grows...)
-Mara’s DNA triggers some comparable traits in Prime’s DNA that are usually suppressed in the Horde Clones: Adora’s crest/hair can start growing long by itself without Prime’s “vessel transitioning” process as a catalyst; Adora has visible pupils like Mara but they resemble Prime’s slit-like pupils.
-Adora’s hands are like Mara’s, they don’t have talons. (And like Imp’s? Looking at screenshots, and I think Imp doesn’t have little talons on his hands.)
-Becoming She-Ra left a mark on Mara’s DNA. While transformed into She-Ra, Mara’s gray-blue eyes become a more intense, pure, saturated blue, and this combined with Hordak’s DNA (which favors intense colors for eyes and teeth) leads to Adora’s vibrant blue eyes and blue teeth.
-The First Ones sword will respond to Adora because she has Mara’s DNA, and she will be able to transform into She-Ra like Mara.
-Light Hope tries to monitor the situation on Etheria when she builds enough energy to, and senses Mara’s DNA in Adora. Light Hope then decides to not push herself and open a portal against all odds to extract a First Ones infant to use as She-Ra. She decides to change her plans and use Adora instead since she contains the DNA of a confirmed former She-Ra (Mara) and is already on Etheria.
(-Not suggesting in this AU that somewhere there’s like a canonish Adora that got to stay where she was and didn’t get dragged to Etheria. The only Adora in this AU would be Spacebat!Adora.)
While Imp got dark hair like Hordak, Adora managed to inherit the hair Hordak was supposed to have. What his defect repressed/changed came out unaltered in Adora.
At first I just wanted to explore drawing Spacebat!Adora, and then an actual AU behind it started coming to me.
Spacebat!Adora does have some echoes of Horde Prime in her appearance for Irony reasons, along with other reasons like wanting to play around with certain things.
(Also Adora does not get the canon ship in this AU. Imp and Hordak wouldn’t want a certain someone to lay even a single attacking claw on their sister.)
And this AU might be just...pretty different? Still brainstorming that. Shadow Weaver may sense the magical potential in Adora (from Mara’s side) and eventually try to kidnap her, and that leads to the Horde splitting into separate factions and Hordak escaping with Adora and Imp to protect them?
More Spacebat/Horde Clone-Hybrid!Adora concepts, much of them partly drawn over screenshots (like the picture above):

HFW Mechanics
I realized that I never continued with my “thoughts on” series that I had started since both my character posts were so long! And thanks everyone for enjoying them and for sharing your thoughts! Hopefully this one will be as enjoyable for all of you!
There are so many new mechanics in this game and so much to talk about. I’ll start off with the ones I liked most, the ones I didn’t like and the ones I’m kinda “meh” on. But please keep in mind that these did not ruin my game play experience (both play throughs) and I’m still discovering how to use some of these mechanics and weapons properly.
I’m putting this one under a page break because....length haha
Pros:
Let’s kick off with a brand new gear for Aloy and that’s the pull caster! What a great way to kick off HFW with building a whole new toy for Aloy to play with as well as introducing the workbench. Two birds, one stone! The pull caster has multiple uses and I’ve never grown tired of it. I love being able to jump off a mountain cliff and then latching on to a handle to be tethered up or using it to pull chests off of high ledges. Even though I’m always scared that I’ll take some damage if the chest hits me or something. Even with 100+ hours I move out of the way just in case lol the sound effect is super satisfying and now I’m always looking for ways to use it. Of course it gets tricky when you forget to press Triangle and end up shooting an arrow instead when you’re trying to pull a beam down or open a vent, but that’s just me rushing through the game play or puzzle. I also love when you finally get the Sunwing as a mount and take a running leap at it before using the pullcaster to hook on to it and pull you up. I’m so glad Guerilla Games added this feature and I hope they don’t take it away.
The glider is also an incredible addition and I use it constantly, even just doing a running jump into a glide to get away from a machine or rebel. I remember seeing it in the first game play footage they showed and knew right away that it was going to be so much fun. I’m sure it was a nod to Breath of the Wild but with the added bonus of no stamina bar! That’s one thing I didn’t like about BotW, it took me out of the game play when I had to worry about the fact that Link was losing stamina and having to choose whether or not you upgraded your health or your stamina. HFW doesn’t include that unless it’s for your weapons and I’m so grateful haha the weight of the glider is also felt as you’re trying to maneuver your way through the skies. I hope this is another one that is kept for future DLCs and games. It would be disappointing to lose it.
Aloy’s hair! I love just watching her hair move in the different environments and when it blows in the wind as you rappel down a Tallneck or high ledge. It doesn’t feel stiff and that there’s a natural look to it. Even just some of her hairs that aren’t perfectly tied together in her braids. The detail is incredible and it looks beautiful under water, so natural to how hair would look. Even just emerging from the water it looks heavy and seeing droplets fall when she shakes her head. The studio put so much thought in to her hair movements and it paid off. Of course you get the weird little pop in moments and her hair is a little crazy but it’s so minor that I can over look it.
Combat has been a lot more enjoyable for me during this game. For my second play through I have been trying my hardest to keep it on normal because I realized you get different movements from your opponents. Seeing a rebel grab Aloy by the hair or Spartan kick her away from them had be gasping! I didn’t realized that they would get their own fighting sequence like Aloy did when I was originally playing on Easy. You feel every hit Aloy takes and it raises the stakes just a little higher and makes you want to hit them back even harder. Especially when the Champions grab Aloy and just slam her to the ground. You never got that in HZD and I never felt weary when taking out a rebel camp. But now I actively try to stealth kill the heavy hitters first because I know they will pin me into a corner. It might sound sick but I also love when Aloy get’s blasted with electricity. Seeing her body seize up and fall to the ground was not something I thought I’d want but it was a great inclusion into the combat and a fantastic detail.
The skill tree is also really important and I don’t know how anyone could have focused on just one branch. You pick up so many skills and enhancement to not just combat but your over all experience. Plus, it’s not like they are cheap with skill points. You can totally gain enough throughout the whole game (during the main story and after) that you can max every single skill. Plus, the valor charges are amazing! I’ve mostly been using the healing valour because it has saved me so many times!! Your health bar never gets low enough for you to die while that valour charge is in effect. The one down side for this option though is that once the combat is over, the charge is still in effect until it’s all used up. I wish it would stop when Aloy is safe instead of having to build that valour bar up again from 0. But for real you guys, max out every option! You unlock a lot!
Photomode is just *chef kiss*, I really love the improvements they made to Photomode and the fact you can use it during the cut scenes? Can’t wait for New Game+ and I’m going to go crazy with that for my screen shots. You think I have a lot now? Oof haha! It did take a long time for me to get used to the facial expressions they’ve included but I’ve ended up loving them and wanting to use each of them some where. Even the body poses they have added makes things so much fun. Being able to sit beside Erend at the base (can’t wait to post those pictures) or creeping up behind someone to photo bomb them has been a delight.
The stash!!!! Please go use your stash people! I’m so glad there is a place for your goodies to go so you aren’t constantly selling items. They keep all the main things in your inventory and push everything else to the chest and it makes having to go back to the base or any settlement so much more important.
I’m lucky enough to own a PS5 and I hope everyone get’s the chance to play this game on that system. The dual sense controllers alone are completely worth it. I love the opening sequence of the game and feeling every footstep of the machines or feeling the rumble of the ground Aloy is standing on. Even the pushback or the tense feeling of the bow during combat is everything I want from the PS5. HFW is absolutely what next gen games should aspire to be. And don’t even get me started on the graphics! First play through was on resolution and I notice a difference when I tried playing on performance. The difference in the water alone made me go back to resolution mode lol I wish all of you a chance to get a PS5 and to boot up HFW!
Cons:
The hunter pouch is the weakest addition to this game and I hate it. It’s so frustrating that I can only have a limited amount of potions, traps, food and anything else in this feature. I’m left with so much in my stash that I don’t even bother some times trying to fill up my potions because I’m constantly being told “you don’t have enough space”. Guerilla, please fix this or get rid of this feature all together. I get it, you want to use every button on the controller effectively. But the fact that I have 50+ potions that I can’t put into my pouch is irritating and it won’t autofill.
This leads me into the workbench. A lot of it has been great but needing to hunt all of these different animals to increase the amount of anything I have is annoying. Create jobs? Cool, but annoying. Especially when I kill five geese and get one out of five feathers that I need out of this damn bird. The looting ratio needs to be better for the animals. Also, I love the inclusion of the glow gems but there needs to be more in the world for how important they are. You use them for not just buying special items but you need them to improve all of your gear! Add more into the world please!!! I want to max out all of my items but how can I went there’s not enough of these little green gems!?
The amount of blast paste you get also needs to be increased. The fact that one of my favorite weapons, the explosive Spike Throwers, requires 9 of these to be refilled is ridiculous! You don’t get enough of this item for that to be the case. Some of these weapons require a crazy amount of one item to be filled again and I’m constantly using up my shards to buy more. I know it’s an uncommon item but damn guys. Give a girl a break and let me blow things up without hesitation.
Shredding gauntlet needs to be removed and forgotten about. I never use it and it’s just a complete waste of inventory for me. I’m sorry if you like using it but having to stand there for that amount of time to use this thing properly? Yeah no. A Thunderjaw isn’t going to wait for this thing to load. NEXT! Lol
Clawstriders as a mount is…disappointing. It’s sooooo slow which makes NO SENSE! They are so fast when they are attacking you and Regalla is a threat on these things. Yet Aloy walks faster than this damn machine. I just end up switching my over ride to attack mode instead of defense. Guerilla, you have an obligation to FIX THIS. NOW!
Meh:
Underwater is fun and beautiful but the fact that your only option is to hide or use smoke bombs if you’re near a machine is…..eh. Choices.
Gauntlet races are fun and the end prize is sooo worth it. You got me Guerilla…you got me. But my hand cramps and I’m constantly pressing L3 by mistake while I’m trying to shoot arrows and it leaves me frustrated.
Melee pits, not what I thought it was going to be and pretty disappointed by that TBH. Of course you get a lovely, and tough, side quest from completing these but they are glorified training pits. Plus, the fact that the timing of these combos is so tricky is very rage inducing and it doesn’t make me want to do them. I hate that I started a second play through because it means I have to do these melee pits again!
Machine Strike a lot more fun now that I understand (kinda) the game mechanics. I still prefer Gwent and Orlog but I see what you were trying to do game developers. Total bull shit that I need super rare machine parts to buy the pieces. But….it’s fine.
These are just some key thoughts I’ve had over all and recurring thoughts as I’m replaying the game. Like I said, nothing has made me hate this game. It hasn’t ruined my experience or made me want to give it a low score. HFW is still my game of the year so far and I can’t wait for New Game + and hopefully a follow up DLC (or two). Fingers crossed we get some news at E3! Or…State of Play!
What do you guys thing? Am I right? Am I doing something completely wrong?  What features did you love, hate or something in between?
