🥖 Compton Boole, Ford Cruller, and Otto Mentallis

🥖- Food headcanon

Compton loves to cook, and he stress-cooks. When his old partner (the other grandparent of Sam and Dogen) asked him out the first time, he made a whole buffet's worth of food before heading out on the date. He's actually scary when he cooks-- Especially to Augustus, who remembers Meat Circus and was NOT expecting that. On another note, though, Compton's favorite food? It's a simple meal. A completely normal chicken noodle soup. He adores that stuff, and if anyone makes him food, he will be very proud and emotional and eat all of it even if it's burnt to a crisp.

Ford's not ever tried most fancy stuff, and doesn't plan to try it. He's mostly being dragged into trying new things by Lucy and Otto throughout the Green Needle Gulch days, but for the longest time at the start, he'd be the guy at a fancy restaurant who politely asks for a bacon cheeseburger. Eventually he knows how to get through that sorta stuff well enough, but he still thinks bacon cheeseburgers are the greatest gift to humanity, and he still grills really well after all these years. If you give him food, he's honest (but kind) about it, and will tell you if it's got something wrong... unless it's bacon. This man eats floor bacon.

Otto's diet as a kid was super duper fancy food, and once he leaves, he tries all the stuff he wasn't able to as a rich kid, and he instantly discovers he adores burgers. The man hasn't cooked a day in his life because of his past, and he has been known to set microwaves on fire by microwaving psitanium just to see what would happen. His food tastes are pretty silly anymore-- He likes imported truffles and fast food, he's eaten fois gras on the greasiest burgers this side of the ocean, the guy is the epitome of "going to taco bell high at 2am" while also knowing how to properly use an oyster fork.

Sleep headcanons

Ford - Has scared every member of the p7 at least once with the fact he can sleep with his eyes open

Otto - always thinks he can game the system and time his sleep efficently and ends up either awake or asleep for way too long

Compton - tends to keep a crossword or puzzle book by his bed bc he can have trouble getting to sleep due to his brain running too fast on anxiety. doing something a little but not too productive helps calm him down

Badass headcanons

Ford - Has saved at least several people by teleporting in to catch them or stop something from impacting them

Otto - has lightning scars across his back bc he can use his powers to act as a human lightning rod and it's only backfired once or twice (hence the scarring)

Compton - Is a genuinely very good and clever strategist who helped keep dozens of agents safe on missions. Hollis took notes from him before he started receeding into Psychoisolation more and more often

Compton Boole

one aspect about them i love

Everything he is involved in is so weird if you think about it too much, but also like, its so weird but its also normal. Embodiment of the energy of the psychonauts universe tbh

He sounds so polite he is also so small you wouldn’t know he got powerful powers, then he moves and you can hear the comical sound effects. He knows this and tries to keep people safe by keeping himself away from a situation that creates accident. **would babble more about him and the memory vaults if I could but this is already getting long

Also his frantic energy when he is stressed out, like me too bud (extremely vibrating little guy inside who want to peace out of the situation, because holy shit *self-imposed timer + quality standards = explodes from imploding self-pressure*) I’d want me a psychoisolation chamber and play chess with a clever little rat too

One more thing but I do love that little mischievious laughter he has with Cassie and her shenanigans, absolute besties -- they know each others shit so well they think its hilarious

one aspect i wish more people understood about them

I need more sass for portrayed in his fan works, he is POLITE but is also very good at what he like doing. 

Did you explore his speech tree before you go into his mind? my god he tsks at you at one point holy shit his face. Like he can still be firm even before clearing the goat judges, so not a pushover kind of shying away, and firmly to prevent dangers FROM himself

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character

He didn’t know about teleportation till he met Ford. First few times still gets him spooked but eventually gets used to it. Then when he sees others who get added getting spook, he gets why Ford thinks its funny. 

When he gets to learn teleportation, he gets to do the same thing as well (even though its mostly limited to a small area, namely size of a kitchen, and his mindscape.)

one character i love seeing them interact with

We only saw him interact with Raz and Psychic 7 (and even more in fanfiction), so I’d love to see his interactions with his family and motherlobe employees.

Family of course we see a bit implied with lines, but I am also curious with the relationship with Boole kids’ parents.

Very curious most of all his relationship with Truman, Hollis, and Terryl since those characters would atleast have more than just a glimpse of him. The Camp Counselors too! 

We need more Compton fics in general where he isn’t just a small part of the fic.

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more

*smashes you with more Psychic 7 interactions*  OBVIOUSLY

but yeah no yeah I always love Cassie & Compton platonic partners content, but I would also love to see more of his dynamic with the other 6. Namely while we see him with Cass the most, then Otto and Ford, we don’t really see much for Helmut (okay he kinda does as Tasty but--), Bob and Lucy. Give us DLC with just character interactions Doublefine ples

Anyway as I’ve mentioned, would love to see more with his family and motherlobe employees

He knows everyone's favourite dish and does his best to make something that they would like based on that dish (+everything else they like). It would be a massive compliment to him if someone says the dish he made up is their new favourite. He also really just likes it when he makes it with someone else, even if it is a simple dish. Cassie with cooking, Lucy with Baking, Ford with Grilling and all that~

Not gonna do the gluttonous goats one since that’s a tad hard as one dimensional character, though I would love to see what they were like before we see them in game, as well as what they could be like after the game. Hell it’d be interesting to see how they’d do when they turn to judge others (though I doubt that since they are Compton’s self judgement)

I like to imagine Oleander kind of teaching Raz to use his psychic fist, and how to double-jump with his levitation bubble, since those are both things that you learn in Basic Braining. Oleander also seems to favor that sort of “hand-to-hand” combat over psi-blasting- he only uses TK in his Brain Tank fight, and there’s a deleted line from Lungfishopolis where he mocks Raz after taking his ammo, calling psi-blasts “cheating”

If you like psychonauts and have played psychonauts 2 what is your fave and least fave mind and fave and least fave boss and why?

Well I have played the second one. My favorite is the Cassie O Pia library one and my least favorite is Bob’s. It was just really boring and not a lot of stuff was in it though that was probably the point since he was an alcoholic. My favorite boss is either Luctopus or the librarian. My least favorite are the judges since they puke everywhere

What is your fave mind in pn2 and your least fave mind and your fave boss and least fave boss from pn2 and why for each? I’m very curious :)

My fave mind is Compton’s Cookoff because it’s creative and funny and I like the mechanics and characters. Compton is my fave p6/7 btw :)

My least fave is Lucretia’s Lament because even tho it’s aesthetically pleasing, it’s boring compared to the others. Now there’s no bad levels or boss fights here thankfully!

My fave boss is the gluttonous goats who are also some of my fave characters, especially the Otto goat puppet because they are funny and the battle is fast paced and keeps you on your toes and is fun! Also I like the nod to Compton cooking in background when food is being prepared it’s funny 😄

My least fave boss is maligula just cause it meant that the game was over and even tho the interns come to help, she felt boring and dragged on a bit compared to the others.

Tbh I have to agree with you! My favorite mind in pn2 is definitely Compton's, with psi king's sensorium a close second. I always HATED timers in videogames as they stressed me out so so much, but Compton's level did it right I feel. At least for me. And the whole message about taking breaks when you're overwhelmed rlly stuck with me after that. And I rlly loved the boss just bc of the music lol! It just caught me so off guard and I just rlly loved that

I wasn't a fan of Lucretia's lament bc yeah, it did seem a lil boring and empty but I rlly appreciated the throwback meat circus theme in the beginning akfkgksk and it was a lead up to a very important plot point so I can't rlly hate it too much.

As for my least favorite boss, I really didn't like truheltia memonstria, it rlly just felt.... incomplete? Like actually fighting it just seemed unengaging and repetitive. I love bobs bottles but the boss fight just didn't do it for me.

Though for the maligula battle it defs felt like there should've been more I really like the throwback to pn1 where raz gets rlly big to fight her lol. Plus the interns helping was an awesome lil tie in imo

what's your fave mind In pn2, just curious? or so far in the game? Guess mine? hehehehe they are all good, but I have a specific fave!

OOH first ask. Mine is probably between bob’s bottles and comtpon’s cookoff. Bob’s Bottles is just such a beautiful level and the music, the somber strings just matches the stage perfectly. Compton’s cookoff is because of how much I just love the theme and just general energy off it. And the boss theme. Another reason why I like them so much just together is the switch. Like when you get to 3rd/4th stage (depending if you did PSI-king sensorium first). It’s just this overly energetic while you can still sense how he got social anxiety, and the way they portray his social anxiety is also just so strangely cheerful with stuff like the produce it fits a bit. Showing how he just views everything he has done as bad. Bob’s bottles on the other hand. The general sadness takes over the general vibe of the stage. It shows such a major change too, just like with the asylum stages in the first game. We go from stages that are just bright and humorous to just a dead beautiful wasteland of flowers and grief. It truly shows where we are heading in for for the final part. And I checked your page. Seems you like comtpon’s cookoff too. Well who doesn’t (outside of the puking)

I've always wondered, how do you think Oleander sees Ford, as in what you do think he thinks of Ford as a person and why?

That’s an interesting one! Ford is an elder, a veteran, typically someone who is to be respected in Oleander’s eyes. But he’s also the one who had the final say in having him work at the summer camp, a place that, in Oleander’s mind, is the place useless Psychonauts go to work because they can’t do anything else right.

Sure, Oleander made himself the top dog there, yelling and taking his anger out on mere children, but because of the decision to put him there, any respect he had for Ford had diminished long ago.

Ford put him there not as an insult, or a taunt, but because his temper was so much, and he tried so hard on missions, he wound up hurting everything in the process. He put Oleander there in hopes that it would help calm him down. Oleander gets to lead and call the shots! And all of his peers are shorter than him, and therefor, much less agitative! It should have been a good choice. But Oleander never saw it that way. To him, it was the last place you go before you’re tossed out with the trash, so he had to try, and he had to try hard to whip these soldiers into shape, and of course, took all his pent-up anger and frustrations out on them in the process.

So imagine how satisfying it was for him to see Ford himself stepping out of the plane or bus to start working there. The big guy in the Psychonauts, the prodigy, the one who stuck Oleander in the camp and broke his trust, thrown into the same trash bin as him. Catharsis.

He walks up to Ford, now a bit older and frailer than he was when they last met, and he smiles all big and smug and starts chatting away. “Well! Look what we have here! The leader of the Psychonauts himself here at good ol’ Whispering Rock to rake the leaves and clean the latrines! How’s it feel, Ford?”

And Ford turns and looks at him, his brow quirked in a way that spelled confusion.

“Hah! Didn’t expect you’d wind up here with me, did ya? You couldn’t deal with me so you put me here, and it looks the same thing has happened to you!”

A few more minutes of this taunting passes, until Ford breaks his own silence. “Do I know you?”

And it’s like a steak knife had been driven straight into Oleanders heart. Was he really so small and insignificant in Ford’s life that he would completely forget him? As with all things at this point in his life, he reacts with anger.

But Ford just waves him away, tells him to go play with the other kids and leave him to do his work.

Oleander has no idea about Ford’s mental state, about the battle that shattered his mind and his memories, and maybe he still doesn’t by the time the events of Psychonauts 1 take place. All he knows is that Ford doesn’t remember anything about him- all his training, all his missions, all his angry outbursts- and that he just insulted him by calling him a child. And as much as Oleander could dish them out, he really doesn't take insults well at all.

🥖- Food headcanon

Ford

Can stomach anything, and will try anything that it borders on very strange categories and thinks its fine. Has a larger preference over simple dishes that are greatly exaggerated in its form, specially if he made it.

Despite Chef Cruller taking a week to make a burger, be it a joke or reality, he can actually make the meals appropriate for the campers' meal time. It's just that If you ask him for a Burger that he greatly delays in for some reason (Likely related to someone fond of burger, and particularly likes the way he made them. He doesn't quite remember why but he thinks they deserve the nothing more than a half-assed grilled patty because he keeps teleporting everywhere and messing up with the stove...). Otherwise, if there is a BBQ party happening, you could let him handle the grill. Post-PN2 he does invite people to have a BBQ party once Helmut's body has recovered enough to join in.

Compton

Had precious family recipes passed down to him that started his interest in cooking. Watching cooking shows actually help him improve on his skills. He likes to figure out how to make a dish he has seen on his own. He also like making new recipes for people he likes. He gets a bit of a heart attack watching with how his grandniece cooks and genuinely hopes that maybe he could help lessen the lethality of her recipes by cooking with her (and maybe even how to properly manage her animal assistants).

Otto

An absolute foodie. Would love to eat whatever his friend makes and gives genuine feedback on what they make. One thing that helped Compton open up to the group when he joined was Otto complimenting and supporting him about his cooking. He just get them from other people to not waste time cooking and spend more time science-ing! A frequent thing that helps him whenever he is working on a project or in a stressful situation is food. He can sufficiently cook on his own but doesn't think it is as tasty. May have teared up a little bit when Ford finally made him burger again.

🗡- Badass headcanon

Ford

Is still frightening even as Fragments and has fought off intruders who decided that he can easily be taken care of. Big mistake. This man is still threatening even without using psychic powers, and will use the power of everyday tools and experience of a hard-worker.

Ironically, being fragmented improved his proficiency in Teleporting and allowed him a unique expertise on the power. He can quite literally be in numerous places at once by combining it with the power of Projection. Of course he doesn’t always do this, unless he needs to actively interact with people on different locations. 

(Hard to explain what I have envisioned but this is basically me sharing that I totally have a fic wip where fragments face off intruders at the same time)

Compton

When he was an active agent, he is somehow very good at breaking into places. He can easily ask animals to scout for him and lead him to the best possible routes in missions. He is also very good at coordinating large scale attacks. He is also still have powerful blastokinesis, and has learned more how to control it. Still, he prefers not to use it unless it is necessary or when he is alone, minimum amount of possible casualties around him. He prefers zoolepathy since they can be more flexible in solving things without the use of force.

Otto

He doesn't often get called for missions as firepower, and would often be more on the support and technical side of things. However, he is very good at going undercover and often use his little sleight of hand magic tricks to precure things in the middle of a mission without anyone noticing. Speaking of Magic Tricks, he is also very good at diverting attention or causing distraction without casting suspicion on him (he can casually shrug it off as being an eccentric fellow with an amiable smile on his face). 

While he’d rather not fight, he does learn how to sucker-punch someone. He also often little trick to catch someone off guard and give him an advantage on situations

🛌- Sleep headcanon

Ford - other post

Early riser and had a pretty decent sleep schedule before everything went down. It broke down the more scattered he became. His body clock retains the early morning wake up hours, which is not a good thing when he gets his sleep interrupted all night.

Compton

If he doesn’t drink tea he might have a bit of trouble getting to sleep so he reads books instead. Very good at telling bed time stories. Likes to have background noise of some kind, usually music, to fall asleep to. snores but its the *snork mimimi* kind

Otto

Actually has a decent sleep schedule, although will sleep in late if he doesn't have any work to do. Likes sleeping in a cold environment accompanied by tons of blankets. Does a little bit of light reading on scientific papers before bed.

You'd be able to tell he is not in a good mood whenever his sleep schedule wanes due to being reminded of everything that happened. He'd go on to fiddle with machinery instead of sleeping.

A birthday gift for @basic-braining because we both lobe Oly/Oleander! I wanted to make something special for the Occasion of the birthday for @basic-braining. I decided to make a drawing where Milla Vodello and Oleander are having a blast at a party, but poor Morry/Oleander doesn't like the party clothes that he was forced to wear by Milla. He tries to hide it from her and have fun! They are dancing and having fun! They are also doing a "Cheers" thing with their drinking glasses. They look so cute together! I hope you like it and enjoy it! I had a lot of fun making this and I love how it turned out :) Have a good rest of your birthday and remember that you are wonderful @basic-braining!
