when writing “beautifully happy & painless romantic,” one of my favorite parts was imagining where the members of the pack were in their lives. as it wasn’t the focus of the fic, i didn’t dive too much into the details. but i do what i want and really love thinking about it (plus i’m always down for more pack content) so i’m beginning to write longer pieces focusing on each of the members. here’s leah’s.
Leah was the first one to leave La Push with no intentions to come back for any significant length of time. Seth, Sue - of course she would visit them. And some of the guys - Paul, Quil, Embry, even Jacob - she had grown close with and knew she would miss. But even the love she finally found couldn’t erase the memories in every nook and cranny of La Push. She was haunted by the losses, by the betrayals, all the hurt and anger that had built up for years. Even if the wounds no longer hurt, the reminders did. She had to move on, in every sense of the phrase.
After a year working at the library, and picking up shifts at the diner, she had enough saved to make it a few months on her own. Some quick packing skill, and one bus ticket later, she was in Seattle. She had found a small apartment in an old, neglected part of town, but cheap rent was cheap rent and she didn’t care to be picky.
After some time to settle in, and plenty of trips to thrift shops to furnish her apartment and fill her closet, she began to look for work. Something to fill her days, and keep her bank account a positive number. Her diner experience made it easy to get some serving jobs. They weren’t her favorite, but she was good at it.
With an income secured, Leah knew it was time to branch out further. She loved her life, but couldn’t deny she felt a little lonely. She joined a women’s running group hosted by a local athletic store, and found she fit right in. her last years at home, she had felt so angry, so closed off. And she had every right to be, but it was nice to find herself opening up, joking and laughing with people like she used to before… everything.
The running group led her to a local gym, where some of them worked and all of them worked out at. While there one day dropping off something for a friend, she saw sign-ups for yoga classes. She laughed, remembering telling Jacob she might pick it up to help with her anger. She didn’t need that aspect of it anymore, but signed up nonetheless. One thing led to another, and she found she loved it so much that she applied to be an instructor.
A few months later, all the teachers at the gym were asked to take part in a promotional photoshoot. Leah went along with it, expecting some free food and the ability to dick around with her friends. Until the photographer showed up, a girl Leah vaguely recognised, and she got the feeling her life was about to change. For the better, this time.
Angela became her friend quickly. They had pretty much nothing in common, but that only meant they had plenty to talk about. Before too long, Leah knew she wanted Angela in her life forever, however she would have her. Luckily, (and obviously to anyone who had been watching them since they had met) Angela felt the same. A few more weeks went by, and both their leases were almost up, leading to them looking for a place together. Like they expected, what they found was small, but they made the place cozy and theirs.
For the first time since her early teenage years, Leah felt settled. She loved the work she did, and the people she did it with. She had cats to cuddle and dogs to walk, and a partner she felt safe with. Visits home felt like a gift, not an obligation. La Push hadn’t been her home for a long time, but the people still were. Her biological and chosen families kept her as close as they could, but she finally had room to breathe.
She never wanted to go far.

Leah has never been one for romantic gestures. Angela less so. So when letters and gifts start appear at both their houses they’re unnerved. Unsettled as the gifts are items they needed or wanted, things they had not voiced to anyone. They confront Edward about it, he’s almost content to play dumb, but he assures them while he’s using his gift to find what they need, he’s not the one buying it.
I have no need to impress you two.
They scowl at him, linking hands and turning from him to retreat to the beach. Edward only rolls his eyes. They sit on the shore, Leah throwing rocks, Angela coaxing a pile of sticks into a small sculpture, Leah laughs when the sticks tumble on top of each other. The beach is still off limits to the Cullen’s unless the clear it with Sam or Jacob, and even then at least two trained members of the pack need to be ‘supervising’ as Sam had put it. Leah had been relieved when none of the Cullen’s had taken him up on the treaty amendment.
She turns before Angela doesn’t, the sound of her pack mates, the stench in the air covered by some floral perfume. It appears someone had taken them up on the offer as well. Alice stands nervously, holding out a letter for each of them.
“So you’re our secret admirer.” Angela winks and Alice shakes her head.
“Just the messenger, again.” She smiles faintly as she skips off, the two pack members linger for a second before they chase after her.

Anonymous asked:
Can you write about Angela discovering the Quileutes' secret (but not the Cullens') and going to confront them but becoming an imprint in the process?
Angela Weber reeled back with shock, covering her mouth with both hands as she slowly began walking backwards.
There was no way what she’d seen was real. She was probably inhaling too much cigarette smoke from her mother and classmates (Lauren went through a pack a day minimum) and it was affecting her sanity, eyesight, whatever. Because there was no way tall, muscular boys (and one very gorgeous girl, in Angela’s opinion) from La Push were randomly shifting into furry wolves, just like that. It was impossible.
So she went back home, made excuses to her parents for her wide eyes and blush and skittish demeanor, and slept on it, but woke up the next day with a burning curiosity and a sharp determination. She didn’t know who she could really ask about this - Bella? Jessica? - but those people who had shifted. Was it, like, for a movie they were filming? A green screen, maybe? (The trees were certainly green enough.) But it looked so real, and the cracking of their bones reshaping themselves were loud in her ears, still, hours after the event had happened.
She dressed herself in a white t-shirt, a silver crucifix pendant around her long neck, and wore loose grey dress pants and white sneakers. She tied her dark hair up in a tight ponytail, thinking back to those boys and one girl who had - supposedly - shifted into wolves. Having her hair loose might not be the best idea should she need to make a quick escape.
She then walked to and over the La Push border after texting her mother, stating that she would be out for the morning (at least, she hopes she’ll only be out that long). Her mother replied with a short paragraph, reminding her of safety and pepper spray and please come back on time, which Angela rolled her eyes at.
She glanced around, seeing some houses nearby, and walked towards one at a leisurely pace. Best not to act too threatening, or try to be tough, you probably won’t win. She took deep breaths as she sharply knocked on the door, which appeared to be made of some very grainy, coarse wood the color of coffee.
The girl she had seen yesterday opened the door, and once again Angela was struck by her beauty. This girl was the same height as her (very rare) with copper skin, silky dark hair cropped into a pixie cut, slim waist and legs that went on forever. Even though she, too, wore a t-shirt and pants Angela felt very under-dressed all of a sudden.
“Um...” Angela took a deep breath as she looked directly at the other girl’s eyes. “I...” This was such a terrible idea. What was she going to start with? Hey, I saw you turn into a wolf, what the heck was that about? Yeah, if what she saw was actually true, she would probably have been killed for knowing this. “Never mind,” she mumbled. She took one last look at the beautiful girl, and was stunned to see the expression in her almond-shaped eyes.
The girl’s eyes were widened, and shocked, but more than that they were adoring. They swore to protect, to cherish, to love - Angela looked into those eyes and swore she saw an eternity in the fathomless brown irises. She fought back a shiver and took a step back, surprised at how reluctant she was to do so. What was happening to her?

Okay but I can’t stop thinking about Angela and Leah meeting in La Push
Imagine Angela goes with her group of friends (Bella included) and they are hanging out kicking sand at each other and goofing around.
Jess has just broken up with Mike because hello the class valedictorian deserves better than this sports good lapdog and has just came out as bi
Lauren is there too (and Tyler is also no longer her object of affection) and it’s too soon to tell but Bella and Ange keep sneaking glances at how Jessica leans in to Lauren
They don’t miss how Lauren blushes and giggles - turns out she isn’t that bad of a person once you start to get to know her
In fact, everyone is surrised to learn Lauren is actually pretty interesting: she loves playing chess and has hinted heavily that Jess should teach her how to play volleyball sometime…alone
And then of course, the weather starts getting bad and the wind is picking up and the sand they had kicked up is getting in their eyes and oh of course -
Bella trips over driftwood and scrapes her knee up pretty bad - like “oh shit Jess do you know how to make a tourniquet” bad
Ange looks around and tried to find any kind of fabric or some kind of absorbing sponge - she doesn’t know and then she sees her
A tall, beautifully brown skinned girl with broad shoulders and a cropped haircut is running along the shoreline. No raincoat, old t-shirt, athletic shorts, and a determined face
Ange thinks about pinching herself for a moment because the girl looks almost gracefully lethal in how she runs: long muscly legs carrying her faster and faster
“Help!” Angela waves and shouts to the girl. She has her arms up and she’s pretty tall herself - not as tall as this girl though - and she knows she looks ridiculous jumping around but Bella is bleeding and wow she’s beautiful
The girl picks up speed, seeming to hear Angela even though the wind hasn’t led up. Everyone is tightly packed around Bella to keep each other warm and Angela is quick to point to the middle of the circle where Bella is
“Hey, how can I help?” The runner yells so she could hear her and her voice is raspy but soothing
“My friend,” Angela tries not to stutter. What’s wrong with her? The only person who has made her feel close to this is Ben.
Ben. Her ex boyfriend who had very politely explained to her why it was ‘prudent’ to break up the summer before college
“Your friend? She’s hurt?” The runner questions and Angela has to look up - something new for her, the girl must’ve been at least 6’5 - and quickly nods.
“We were trying to get away from the wind and she tripped over wood. She’s bleeding a lot!”
The girl nods before somehow fitting her body inside the close knit circle of friends
“Leah!” Bella exclaims, momentarily thrust out of her pain. “What are you doing?”
“I should’ve known it would be you,” but there isn’t any malice in Leah’s voice just vague amusement and acceptance.
The treaty really did know how to keep the peace - at least mostly. And Bella smiles before flinching as Leah’s hot fingers begin to peel off the cut cloth of her jeans.
“That boyfriend,” Leah raises her lip slightly at the word, “of yours has a doctor in the house, right?
Bella nods as she closes her eyes and holds onto Angela and Jessica for support while Lauren, Jordan, and Taylor try to steady her shaking leg
“Okay well until you can get to them, you’re going to need a tourniquet.” And with that Angela nearly faints as the girl proceeds to lift off her t-shirt and rip it into ribbons.
She has a tank top underneath and a sports bra but what surprises Angela is how unaffected she is by the cold. How the girl- how Leah hasn’t shivered once and how her biceps looked much smaller covered up
Her muscles look smooth and natural and she can think of about five different pictures she could take to reflect the depth and dimension
And then she hears herself blurt out, “Wow you’re really buff.”
All the girls, who had been to wrapped up in staying warm and helping Bella as Leah finished tying the tourniquet, look up at her questioningly.
Only Bella has the foresight to look at Leah and suppresses a smile at how the faint pink touches her cheeks, “thanks.”
The tension is lifted and as the sun is setting Leah offers to carry Bella to the car with the girls on tow
Everyone is giggling and laughing again as Bella has to hold her annoyance at being carried like a baby to the car
She takes the opportunity, however, to see if she could repay her unlikely rescuer in an unlikely way
“Hey Ange! How tall are you again?” She knows Angela hates being asked about her height almost as much as Leah takes pride in her heritage and strong lean body
“I’m 5’10 which, by the way, is such a pain. Like Ben would never let me wear anything more than two inches.”
Bingo! Bella can practically see when Leah zeros in on the conversation.
“Hey there’s nothing wrong with being tall! It makes you stand out side but it also just makes you more interesting. Everybody noticed a tall girl.”
Angela can’t help but begin to argue when Leah stops her, “besides with a girl as pretty as you, who cares about height?”
Bella groans inwardly as she is placed inside the car. She stares with a big smile as she watches Angela blush even though she can’t make out what is being said.
“I’m - we’ve got to go,” Angela stammers as she makes her way to the car door.
“Wait!” Leah runs up behind her and pulls out her phone, “can I have your number?”
Angela is really blushing now and Bella can’t tell what they’re saying (all the other girls are inside giggling and trying to listen in too) but she can feel Leah’s confidence grow as she straights her shoulders out
“Yeah! I mean, yes! Yeah. Of course.”
“Cool, I’ll call you tonight, maybe we can get coffee sometime and I can give you more reasons why tall girls are beautiful.”
Angela can only nod and bite her lip but she’s fighting a smile and Leah can hear her heart beating. It’s that extra little wolf thing, that makes her confident enough to lean in and say, “or why you’re beautiful, in particular.”
Angela takes a solid minute to climb inside as Leah runs off into the night.
“Bella?” Angela can only stumble out as they pass the treaty line, “how much can you tell me about this Leah?”

right before goodbye
for Angela/Leah
Angela looked out over the small crowd, fidgeting with the pull tab on top of her soda can. There wasn’t much else for her to do here; Jessica had dragged her to this bonfire, the last one of the summer, and then promptly ditched her to go flirt with Mike. Everyone else she knew already looked busy, and she had never been good at sliding into conversations unannounced.
“I’d stick with the cans if I were you. I saw blondie over there spike the punch earlier, and it did not look like a good combo,” a woman said as she walked up to Angela.
She jumped at the voice next to her, which she didn’t recognize. She turned to her right and saw a woman with short black hair, also holding a soda can. After looking at her a beat too long, Angela switched her gaze in the direction the other woman was pointing.
“Yeah, Lauren has a habit of doing that… it’s never been good,” she said with a laugh. “I don’t think anyone has the heart to tell her that none of that goes together.”  She watched as her friend was talking with some people from their class, including a tall guy Angela didn’t recognize.
“Lauren? I really don’t trust her judgment if she’s over there talking to Paul,” the woman said with a snort. “He’s not gonna shut up about her. I can already tell.”
“Paul?” Angela asked.
“The guy in the shorts. He’s my best friend. Annoying as all hell, though.”
Angela smiled. “Aren’t they always?”
“Definitely. Anyway. I’m Leah.”
“Angela! Nice to meet you.”
“Likewise.” Leah looked towards Paul again, rolling her eyes as he was clearly showing off while telling some story. “I should go remind him it’s almost his curfew,” she cracked.
“I bet he’d love that,” Angela said. Both women laughed, then it fell silent between them. “So, um, do you go to the school here?”
“I did! Graduated a couple months back.”
“Congrats! Do you have college plans…” Angela stopped when she heard Leah groan. “I’m sorry, you’re probably sick of that question.”
Leah laughed. “No, it’s not that. Well, yes. I am. But the issue is that I’m not going. My mom really wants me to be a nurse like her, but I don’t think it’s for me. So it’s a bit of a touchy subject.”
“Gotcha. I definitely understand the whole ‘parents not realizing you’re your own person’ thing.” She sighed.
“We’ll figure something out. We got time,” Leah said with a shrug and a smile.
“Ang!” Jessica shouted as she ran up. “The guys wanna show us something by the tidepools. Let’s go!” Jessica grabbed her hand and tried pulling her towards the group.
“Jess. I’m talking to someone,” Angela said, pulling her hand back.
“Please?” she begged. “You can flirt later!”
“Jessica!” Angela yelped. She blushed as Leah burst out laughing.
“Don’t worry about it. Go check whatever it is out. I’ll be around,” Leah said, tossing her  a wink.
Angela couldn’t hold back her smile. “Oh. Cool. Um. I can’t wait. Bye, Leah.” Angela threw a wave over her shoulder as Jessica pulled her away.

Chapter 11 | What you can't see | Jessica Stanley
It had been two weeks since the accident and everyone was hoping to see Tyler return home either today or tomorrow. I remember thinking how odd it was for him be let out so soon. The doctors made it sound as if his head injury was far more serious than that, but after a few days, he was up and about the hospital, looking fit as a fiddle. It was as strange as the accident itself. I remembered seeing the van speeding sideways towards me and raising my arms like a shield when I lost my footing and fell to the ground, only for the van to go skidding towards Bella.
Speaking of Bella, I was leaving the school entrance when I encountered her sitting on the stone wall. She held a book in her hands but her attention was on an empty parking space. The Cullen's usual parking space. No one had seen them for over a week, which wasn't really surprising. They would often disappear for days at a time, especially when the weather was nice. Apparently, they would go out camping or travelling. Alice was heard saying something about going to Alaska. With so many absences over the years, it was no wonder the school teachers wanted a word with Mr & Mrs Cullen.
"They shouldn't be gone for long," I said. She looked up at me, caught off guard by my comment.
"Oh, yeah. I was wondering about them." She put the book down in her lap and moved to offer me a seat. "I'm Sorry to hear what happened your friends grave. That's pretty crazy."
I sat beside her. "I still don't believe it. As if it wasn't bad enough that she was murdered, they had to dig up her grave and steal her body." I wanted to hit something as I thought about the news reports. It hadn't just been Lacey, but the other victims too.
"My Dad told me everything. Did you hear the news reports about the warnings being put out? Everyone is scared to venture into the forests or even go to the gym alone." She said.
"Yeah, I heard. Our parents forbade me and Angela from going to the Olympic national park last week. We were planning to go on the zip wire." I was so fed of being stuck in the same place and constantly monitored by my parents. Just once, I wanted to blow off steam and forget everything.
"Maybe that's why the Cullens took off. Perhaps they just wanted to go somewhere they didn't have to be afraid." She said. I doubted that. The Cullens were absent so often, this just seemed like par for the course. But it was a good idea.
"Hey, Eric said something about going to La Push sometime. If we all go as a group are parents would have less reason to worry. What do you think?" I asked her.
"La Push?" She asked.
"Yeah, the beach next to the Quileute ranch. Do you want to see if the rest of the gang are up for it?" I asked.
"I don't know." She said nervously.
"Oh come on we'll make a day of it." I was aware that I was being a bit pushy, but I was anxious to do something and clear my head.
"Ok. Let's do it. I'll call my Dad and let him know."
"Perfect," I said finally able to smile about something.
Once the rest of the gang arrived at the entrance, we all called our parents and with their permission, we were allowed to go to La Push. We already had our swimsuits and towels in our school lockers so there was no need to rush home. The got all excited and boys jumped into my car while Angela, who was getting chatty with Bella, climbed into the truck beside her and we all sped off. During the drive, I noticed an odd look between Eric and Mike. I remembered them being strangely quiet since the news reports. Earlier, Mike came to the canteen, asking Eric if they could talk privately. I didn't think much of it at the time but now I was starting to feel curious but said nothing.
When we finally arrived at the beach, the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in sight. We had an awkward time getting undressed in the vehicles, covering up with towels as we did so. We usually came here in Tyler's van, which offered more privacy and movement. The car wasn't the greatest changing spot as I, Angela and Bella struggled to get our swimsuits on with one hand while the other held our towels up. The boys had an easier time as they quickly changed in the truck, and I could have sworn I saw Austin and Mike having a cheeky look in our direction. When we finally finished getting ready, we all ran down towards the Shore. The sand was hot under our bare feet and there was hardly a breeze in the salty sea air.
On the beach were a group of boys with surfboards, One of which Bella seemed to recognize. "Hi, Jacob." She called out to a long-haired native American boy. Smiling he ran towards us. He was gorgeous, tall and muscular.
"Hey Bella, are you going to introduce us to your friend?" Eric asked. I smirked as he eyed up Jacob with a lusty grin. It was about time he had a boyfriend, maybe this time he would get lucky.
"This is my friend, Jacob Black."
"Hi, nice to meet you." He said, greeting us with handshakes. "You want to go surfing with us?" he cheerfully asked, pointing out his friends in the water.
"Sure. I'm in." Mike agreed. Austin nodded in agreement.
"I'd like that," I said, looking out at the boys. Just like Jacob, they were buff and handsome.
"I hope that's all you 'like'." Austin had the look of a green-eyed monster as he put his arm around my waist and kissed me with a big grin on his face.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to up and dump you for a bunch of sexy, shirtless Indian boy's, or am I?" I joked. He laughed as we head towards the water. Bella opted to stay on shore as she pulled Jacob to one side.
"I wanted to ask you about those old legends." I heard her say as we reached the water. The water was freezing as we swam out towards the others. I looked back towards the shore and saw the two them walk along the beach arm in arm. I knew Jacob was already taken, not that it bothered Eric who was happy getting to know one of the other boys. The boy introduced himself as Jared Cameron as he climbed out of the water onto the surfboard and introduced us to Paul and Quil.
As we talked, another boy came running into the water and swam towards us. "Embry?" Jared said as the boy reached us.
"Have any of you seen Sam?" He asked.
"No. I thought he was back home, preparing for the party." Paul said.
"We can't find him. Leah wanted to talk to him before the party, but he's gone. We don't know where." Embry looked worried but the others didn't seem too bothered.
"He'll show up. He always does." Jared replied.
