Soulmates au 6x10 👀

so basically this is a "you find out who your soulmate is once you're dead" au.

usually ppl think this is bullshit and like, the worst system ever bc why would you only find out who your soulmate is when you can't do anything about it????? that's so pointless???? and sad??? and also, it might be a myth. nobody knows.

but!!! when buck dies for 3 minutes and 17 seconds he realizes all the stories and legends about soulmates are true and oh shit, eddie is his soulmate!!! and he came back to life so he gets to do something about it, unlike most ppl!!!!

here's a snippet!!!

Buck's thought a lot about dying. It's impossible not to when he does what he does, when he's in danger almost everyday.

He's thought about dying when he went on his first date with Abby and chocked on bread, when his leg was trapped under the firetruck, when he was caught in a tsunami with Chris, when he risked his life as he dangled in the side of a train that could fall and crash him in seconds. When Eddie got shot in front of him and Buck tasted his blood.

He's thought about dying, sure.

But he naively thought he'd have time.

He never thought a lightning strike would take him out.

The last thing he hears is Eddie calling his name.

If you check out the Chinese legends around the Black Tortoise on wiki it's pretty interesting, the tortoise and snake were generals who supported the great king of the north (where we know Rick was last on his boat) and were usually shown as intertwined in art. I'm just saying. :) Your post about D and snakes made me think about how his classic double-knife strike is like a snake striking with it's fangs?

Okay, can I just say...this is genius. We know TWD uses Chinese and Tibetan legends a lot, so it would make sense for this to = some kind of template of Beth and Daryl.

Okay, gonna go down a rabbit hole.

Since Daryl is always the one directly holding and handling the snakes, he would obvious be the snake general.

Then we have that great little story Norman told after they filmed Still about how there was a little ceramic turtle in the mess of the moonshine shack that Emily liked, and so he saved it for her. At the time, most people assumed it just a super-cute behind-the-scenes story, but we know better by now, don't we. It was so much more than that. It was a hint at the symbolism and the template. Daryl = Snake. Beth = Turtle. And I think you're right that Rick is the king of the north (no GoT pun intended; although like Jon, Rick DID undergo a death fake out 👀).

So here's the next thing. I've sort of had these thoughts floating on the outskirts of my mind for a while, but haven't really nailed them down. Your question here helped me to do so.

We have this "north" theme, right? My mind goes first to 6x10, where Carl held then-baby Judith on his lap and pointed to the North Star, telling her that she should follow it to find her way home.

Home in TWD world is always where your family is. So, it isn't necessarily a concrete place. It's just whatever location your family is currently in. As you say, Rick is in the north. And Michonne is now, too. So for Judith to reunite with her family, she'll have to go north. (We still wonder if this will happen somehow and Daryl will follow her, and that's what the Daryl spinoff will be. Total conjecture at this point, but it would just make sense).

I also want to point out that Maggie and Negan, by going to NYC, are also headed north.

See, TD has always assumed because of lines like this, because Beth's spoon = Big Dipper, and tons of other symbols around this, that Beth will COME BACK to where TF is. But maybe it's the opposite. Maybe, especially if anything happens to Alexandria in 11c, TF will have to go to them (Beth and Rick).

I honestly think Rick will end up being the leader of the CRM. The Saviors and AOW was a template for what will happen with the CRM. So, much like he did with them in S8, he'll have to win a war against the CRM, probably break the organization down a bit, assign new leadership to parts of it, etc. But I really do think he'll be the over-arching leader once the war is over.

(Remember after AOW, when Daryl was running the Sanctuary and Rick stayed for the night, and people were saying things like, "the great Rick Grimes," which Michonne teased him about later? Yeah, that's gonna happen on a MUCH bigger scale.)

Anyway, I think this is most of what I have to say about this right now, but I'll keep an eye on it. This is genius. And I love the idea that Daryl's double knives are symbolic of snake fangs. Meanwhile...turtles are green.

God where do I even begin on 6x10? Random assortment of thoughts:

- I suppose it was Nia's turn to fuck up badly but she's so innocent about it I can't even be mad

- that PSA was hilarious but what's even funnier is the show trying to convince me that it's viewership is so high because of the message and not because of how awkward SG looked in it. Gen Z's are making TikToks out of that shit.

- also thinking about Nate from Legends screaming: I LIKE BROCCOLI!!!

- Kelly and Alex sparring? Give me that any day

- "get me on the ground" where was my chest to chest, panting in each other's faces and then full on macking and groping scene? Where was it?!?!?

- J'onn was pretty much useless in this episode

- Andrea made a 1 minute appearance but fuck did she imprint an image into my brain in that blouse. Holy shit

- can I just say that I'm actually digging the reporter colleague dynamic of William and Kara?

- but also I'm missing Kara being the wise sensei mentoring her student Nia. Like did the show forget that reporting was where Kara first started mentoring Nia? Not superhero shit!

- Orlando's speech was honestly the best part of this episode

- Nia's mom was so unhelpful. All that for what exactly? For her to point out how big Nia fucked up? We know goddammit. I'm glad the show is exploring Nia's hangups with her powers and her ability to make terrible choices but still.

- the Nia scenes were so scattered and diluted, just like last week's

- since the tiger king looking people are back, does this mean that Kara remembers Nia and Brainy? Did anyone tell her about that time travel adventure? What info has and hasn't been shared?

- not that I want to see Lex but the way no one has even mentioned him in anyway since Kara's been back. Like does kara not want to know where this guy is so she can dangle him off a cliff and drop him?

- I guess we're done with the PZ trauma. The ice taking over the building would've been a perfect trigger for Kara since she talked about how the PZ literally felt like ice!!! How the fuck do you miss that opportunity???

- "only magic can defeat magic" so since Mxy obviously isn't sticking around until the end, I guess this really means Lena might be getting magic and I'm already tired

- but also, what I'm hearing is, Lena can protect Kara from pretty much everything she's vulnerable to and I think that's neat

- does Kelly not have military training tho? Even people not in the trenches have to go through training. They're acting like Kelly is some rando photojournalist with a flimsy blackbelt and no practical experience....oh wait

- Alex doesn't have powers, why do they talk as though she does? She has a shape shifting gaudy bracelet. That's it!

- Lena missing from this episode makes sense cuz she could've fixed the housing problem in 3 seconds flat

- Nia and Brainy in the same episode but no Brainia scenes? What even is this?

What can I say? The only positive here is that it continues from the previous episode and we got to see a little more Orlando. But everything else? The no Lena, the very little Andrea, the unsatisfactory Nia and her mom, that God awful PSA and even worse livechat, kara once again looking hella ignorant (you'd think after S4 she'd be so much more aware and skeptical)

Let's just say, I'm ready for Lena and doubles doubles and some random Newfie in what appears to be the same PZ cave Kara was in.
