Corroded Coffin’s label want them to do a Christmas song, Chrissy (their manager) tells them over and over that it’s not gonna fly, it’s really not the band’s brand and who is even asking for a Christmas song off them but due to the recent mainstream success of the band the label is not backing down so Chrissy tells the guys what the situation is thinking she’s going to have to deal with an unhappy label and unhappy talent, she immediately lets them know that she’ll try and negotiate a cover or something that they can whip up in no time and then forget about
but they all surprise her, Eddie the most, Jeff just had a kid with his wife and he’s in good spirits, Grant is married and Gareth has a long term girlfriend so she can maybe understand their tolerance for Christmas but Eddie? Mr anti establishment and hates all things capitalistic etc etc, he LOVES Christmas apparently, he says its about the spirit, people’s giving nature etc also he loves watching people get into physical fights over presents and families tearing into each other over the holidays, it’s kinda funny as an outsider and as someone who has one other family member
so they put their heads together and even out do what she’s asking by giving her two original songs and a couple of covers, enough for an EP, the label is ecstatic and Chrissy is flabbergasted, the only hitch is that before they record properly Eddie needs a choir of kids (why, Eddie? it’s part of the Christmas spirit Chris, so many songs have them as well, why can’t ours) so to make it interesting the label makes it a competition for local school choirs and a certain Miss Buckley decides to send in a tape because why not right?
except Eddie loves them, the tape doesn’t cut off in time to miss a snarky comment from the kid at the front with the curly hair and the redhead next to him rolls her eyes so hard Eddie is pretty sure she can see the back of her head and he’s charmed, they sound good too so he begs the band to pick them and the other guys really aren’t as invested in this so they say go for it
Robin is over the moon that her choir got chosen, she’s a music teacher at a local middle school where her bestie also teaches history and is beloved by all children apparently, and it helps that the prize is tickets to a Christmas concert Corroded Coffin will be a part of for all the kids so she tells them that world famous band Corroded Coffin is coming to their school to record them for a new song and they go nuts as a bunch of 14 year olds would, Steve is happy for her even though he has no idea who these people are and doesn’t bother looking them up cause what kinda band comes to a random school for a recording of their song
Eddie LOVES the kids when he arrives, they’re delightfully bitchy but obedient enough or respect Robin enough that they listen to both her and him all day and they sound great, he enjoys them so much in fact that he asks if they’d all want to be in the music video, Steve is out sick that day much to everybody’s dismay but once the video shoot is all worked out they need another teacher for health and safety etc so he volunteers to go (not that Robin would’ve given him a choice) and he sees Eddie covered in flakes of fake snow, surrounded by this soft halo of light and is like oh dear when his heart starts pumping double time
Eddie thinks this teacher is a total cutie and all the kids seem to love him, clamouring to point out cool things on set or show him their costumes or just chat to him about their other weekend plans and Eddie is a little smitten, the shoot goes on and the song is about being lonely at Christmas, the other guys’ partners are involved and the original idea was for Eddie to remain alone to really drive in the point (who doesn’t love a sad Christmas song, of course Eddie would write something against the grain) but the label has a sudden change of heart and wants the video to end with Eddie finding someone and Chrissy seizes her chance to play matchmaker so she suggests Steve fills in if he wants before Eddie can protest
Steve is a slightly confused about why they’d pick him until Eddie blurts out that he’s gay and out etc so a guy would make more sense to their fans so Steve, caught up in the moment, says sure why not, and half falls in love with Eddie under the fake snowfall and horribly bright set lights, he knows it’s an act but Eddie is very charming (Eddie isn’t acting) and all their actual audio will be cut because of the song playing over the top so Steve just enjoys himself
when the song and video goes live fans lose it, who is this cute, cute man that Eddie has bagged, it must be his boyfriend right because everybody else’s partner is in the video and Eddie has to quickly clarify that he just met Steve that day but nobody believes him, ‘the chemistry is too good’ so Eddie manages to reach out to Steve and apologise and Steve decides to joke that Eddie should take him for a drink to make up for it but Eddie immediately agrees and that’s how Steve finds himself on a date with a rockstar
(his class go wild after Christmas break and they hear from Miss Buckley about Mr Harrington’s new boyfriend)
(they go wilder when Steve spills in return that Robin has been seeing Chrissy-the-band-manager since the recording at the school back in October)

I had a dream last night that could have been a fic and I’m disappointed that it wasn’t.
It was Buck and Eddie like after the last episode after Eddie was like “this changes nothing between us” and at first, everything was fine and normal but then it became very apparent after like six months that something very much had changed between them, like Buck was still dating Tommy and Eddie was still dating Marisol and in the field they were as in sync as ever but then everywhere else there was this weird distance between them? Like they were still best friends but like fundamentally they were Buck and Eddie instead of BuckandEddie like they used to be and everyone else in the 118+ could see it and they couldn’t
And then suddenly they could see it, because Buck was at Eddie’s and something happened and he needed to change his shirt but he realized that for the first time in years, probably since Eddie got shot, Buck didn’t have anything of his at the Diaz house. A couple weeks later, Eddie was telling the 118 a story about Chris and Buck had no idea what’s going on in the story and they (Buck and Eddie) were talking about it and they realize that it’s been a while since Buck picked Chris up from school or just like had a day that was just the two of them. And then there was some gathering at Eddie’s house instead of Bobby and Athena’s, and Buck makes cookies at his loft and brings them and Maddie points it out, and Buck has a mini crisis as he realizes abruptly that he is a guest in Eddie’s house and he was looking around and the couch was new (Marisol had convinced Eddie to buy a new one) and he hadn’t even realized.
And then Eddie and Marisol and Buck and Tommy were going on a double date at Olive Garden of all places but Marisol couldn’t make it, so it was just Buck and Eddie and Tommy and it was awkward and Tommy was like “look i haven’t known you guys as long as everyone else around you but even I can tell that there is something not right here and you need to talk it out and fix it because you’re both not the same with your lives being almost completely separate, it’s like not natural for you two.”
And they start talking except it kinda devolves into grocery store fight 2.0, about Buck not being there for Chris and not being around except this time it’s kinda on both of them and it’s really no one’s fault but it’s kinda both their faults. And this argument makes its way into their work life where they’re just not as in sync in the field.
And then something happened on a call (unclear what) that wasn’t really anyone’s fault but Buck blamed himself and the current issues he’s having with Eddie, and asked Bobby to be put on B-Shift for awhile and it was just super awkward in the firehouse and Bobby was talking to Eddie and was like “I don’t know what’s going on but whatever it is you need to fix it” and Eddie was like “I dont know what’s going on either, Buck and I just aren’t the same since he started dating Tommy” and Bobby was like “maybe you need to evaluate that because that’s something that only seems to be affecting you.”
And then like a week later, Eddie and Marisol broke up, and Marisol was all “it’s because of Buck isn’t it, you love him more than me.” And Eddie did not work through that, he just went to Buck’s despite still sort of being in a fight and they got drunk on Buck’s couch and Eddie kissed Buck just kinda out of the blue and then was like “fuck I didn’t mean to do that” and left.
Buck told Tommy immediately the next time he saw him (because he learned his lesson from Taylor) and Tommy was pretty cool about it but he was also like “hey maybe you should think about that because you don’t actually seem all that upset by the fact that Eddie kissed you just that he kissed you while you’re dating me and I feel like that says something” because Tommy is a real one.
After like two weeks wherein Eddie goes to great lengths to avoid Buck outside of calls despite being on the same shift again, and Buck talking through it in therapy and with Maddie, Buck breaks up with Tommy (who again is very chill about all of it and is like “we can all still be friends just give me a little space for a while”) and then he drove to the Diaz house and Eddie saw him pulling up and met him outside and it was raining so they really should have gone inside but I digress. And Eddie was like “Buck it’s like midnight what are you doing here” and Buck was all “i broke up with Tommy because you kissed me” and Eddie was like “fuck I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that I never meant to get in between you two” and is just sort of spiraling and Buck can’t get a word in so instead Buck kisses Eddie and Eddie is just like “Oh. So you aren’t mad.” And Buck laughed and was all “No I’m not mad I’m in love with you”
And then my neighbor’s kid started screaming and woke me up so I didn’t even get to see the ending and I’m kinda mad about it because I wanna see how everyone else reacted to all of this

Buddie 608 meta
Tumblr media
Buck babysitting Jee Yun was adorable, but what gets to me is that it seemed to come with more question marks than when he was looking after Chris in 301. Does that imply something about how often he babysat Christopher without Eddie present even before that little “intervention”? In any case, it re-affirms that even relatively early on, Buck was very much a part of the Diaz family. ~~
Tumblr media
It actually feels weird that in this entire ep, Buck is around kids, talks about kids, but doesn’t address the issue of him possibly fathering a biological kid of his own that he won’t get to raise. Is this a hint that he’s def in denial? It was especially loud because we saw him talking about Chris, while spending time with Jee Yun AND Denny. The former two make sense, but Denny? The only other time we saw Buck around Denny was in 310, when the scene was primarily about Eddie watching Chris with Buck. So it feels like it’s very pointed that he’s around more kids than usual, yet not addressing the biggest issue related to that taking place in his own life.
At the same time, to connect both of the above points, the difference between how we see Buck with Jee Yun, his actual family, in this ep, and how he’s with Denny (he’s in the same scene with him, but hardly interacts with the kid, they’re even physically separated by Hen) serves as a reminder that Chris isn’t like another colleague’s child to Buck. What they have is how Buck treats his own flesh and blood. ~~
Tumblr media
Carla reminding Eddie that the fantasy is sometimes better than the reality, when she’s the person who, in 413, encouraged him to follow his heart… Is this the show building towards Eddie’s next step on his romantic journey? IDK, but with this continued theme of him watching Christopher maturing into his own person, leaving him to find out what makes him happy outside of being a dad, it would seem to fit. ~~
Tumblr media
I loved Buck asking whether Chris isn’t too young to date, then being asked himself to reminisce about his first crush. Which was in fact way earlier (and a reminder that not every crush is about being old enough to date). It made me snicker a little, ‘coz it was such a good reminder that our boys are a bit oblivious about matters of the heart in general. And yes, it comes from an overprotective place of caring, much like Buck’s reaction to hearing that Chris is going to a summer camp in 318, but it def explains why they’re not very good at following their own heart or figuring out what it’s telling them.
At the same time, Buck asking whether Chris isn’t too young to date, followed almost immediately by Eddie saying he didn’t think his son was old enough to kiss others, screamed VOLUMES to me about how much these are both Christopher’s dads. They literally have the same reaction where no one else from the team does. This cannot be accidental or meaningless. Especially when paired up with the fact that it’s Buck who Eddie looks to first to sooth his apprehension over Chris kissing someone, and he only turns to the other teammates when his work husband is being a bit of a tease and refuses to give Eddie the reassurance he seeks... Flirting at your place of work on top of being obvious co-parents, seriously? ~~
Tumblr media
I loved Buck’s comment about the song “It’s Raining Men.” It wasn’t just a funny comment on its own, it was also a nod to a gay anthem. One of the most well known as well as one of the earliest ganthems (that should be a word), in fact. So while it’s not a clear indication of anything about Buck’s sexual identity, it is an added hint in a long series of hints that he isn’t straight. And to add to that, when Buck makes that comment, it’s Eddie who’s there by his side to make one of his iconic faces at that. They’re not just battlefield boyfriends, they’re battlefield husbands, exasperated eye roll included. ~~
Tumblr media
NGL, May and her crush Darius realizing where they’d rather be, or better yet with whom, after their ordeal with Erik very much reminded me of 414. Buck CHOSE to fully integrate himself into Eddie’s life and be by his side in every way that counts, while he literally saw Taylor and immediately started walking in the opposite direction, while Eddie broke up with Ana shortly after. It kills me that they still don’t get what stuff like that means. Literal bozos. ~~
Tumblr media
Eddie threatening to only speak to Carla about stuff related to his son growing up might have been said in jest, but it also served as sort of a set up for her being the one to stay with Eddie and watch Chris outside the dance. And I adored that scene, with that soft look on Eddie’s face, his moving words! Yet, I can’t see either this arc, nor Buck’s with the sperm donation, being complete without the two of them having a real conversation about what’s going on with them and their respective parental journeys. Especially not after the Buddie stuff we got in 5b which locked them in as each other’s person forever. There’s no coming back from that stuff. So I can only assume that it is coming in 6b. And hopefully, it will be all the more emotionally effective for how long we have to wait for it. Hey, that’s the whole point of a slow burn to begin with, right? ;)
~~ Thank you to everyone liking, reblogging and especially those who consistently reblog these meta posts, you own a small piece of my heart. I wouldn’t be writing a meta post on a day when I’m sick AND working a double shift if it wasn’t my way of saying thank you. I really love and appreciate you all. Also mad love to @whosoldherout for once again slaying with her amazing gifs, and just for being so wonderful. xoxox

So there is a "leaked" script that claims Eddie asked Marisol to move in, and is it just me, or is that completely out of character for Eddie? He dated Ana for longer, and they weren't living together. we are really supposed to believe that he would ask Marisol to move in after a few months of dating? Unless Eddie is unable to process anything after learning his Buck. Is dating a man that is not him, and instead of breaking up with her like he planned, he pulls a Buck and asks her to move in with him.
Eddie does not deserve to be stuck with someone like Marisol.
According to 7x04, he apparently needs a live-in babysitter so he can go out with his shiny new boyfriend. So… 🤣  And it took a whole relationship and a blackout before Ana was his babysitter! Just from that much I’m still going, yikes. Like, girl, do you not have friends? Do you not have someone who will tell you this relationship is red flags all over the place? Can we not call up your Folger brother and have him talk some sense into you?
You’re very right though. Eddie deserves so much better.
I have heard about the supposed leaked scripts and I’ll talk some about that under a cut below in case anyone wants to read my thoughts on it.
But what I’ll say in general is that in some of the interviews we’ve been seeing recently especially with canon bi!Buck, Mr. Showrunner had scathing things to say about love interests who are just there to be love interests. He didn’t like that they couldn’t interact with any of the other characters and that they weren’t part of the overall story.
Given we’ve had what, two? offhand comments and maybe five whole seconds of screen time this season with her, if they wanted to actually develop that relationship for the audience, they could have done that. And should have done that a long, long time ago. (For example, see Eddie and Tommy’s relationship. In one whole episode they did more to build that up than they have done for Eddie/allegedgirlfriendconfirmedterf in all of season 6 or 7.)
Instead, they showcased the bond between Buck and the Diazes and the trauma that Eddie and Chris still have over Shannon leaving and them losing her. And also Eddie’s new friendship with Tommy that sounded like they were both spending every day, every moment together.
So far for Miss Homophobe, we have—
hey mari it me eddie from the hardware store
the phone call where they set up a date
it's not MY date it's CHRIS' date (r u sure, dude? why is she there then 🤣)
her chaperoning Chris’ date with Eddie
her babysitting twice off screen
Obviously, she’s in the next episode and they have a pizza date while Eddie has to stare at his bestest friends while they’re on a date. But at this point, if you want the audience to root for the relationship or enjoy it at the very least, it’s a little late in the game for that? We have nothing to go on and it doesn’t make sense if we’re taking it at face value.
All this to say, if he does ask her to move in with him, there is no way for the audience to buy that it’s genuine, reasonable, or a smart move. It reads like Buck asking Taylor to move in with him because he cheated and he’s desperate and clinging. Even if Eddie and the terf show up and are all happy and handsy and lovey, it’s not convincing. There’s been no development. It would come across like Buck and Ali apartment hunting and being touchy and giggly, and then her dumping him at the end of the episode. It sets up a contrast between what we think is happening and what is really happening. Perceived happiness vs the reality of not knowing each other and their relationship crumbling.
I don’t remember who said it or when it was said, maybe it was Kristen? But I know someone talked about how Eddie rushed things with Ana and they were wanting to do the opposite when continuing his story. Dating someone for (how long has it even been? 2-3 months? Idek? Does Eddie even know?) Mere months and asking them to move in reeks of, “something is going wrong and I have to fix it by doing something rash and ill-advised to keep us together.”
Remind me to do a post about Eddie also being someone who clings and stays because it’s convenient and he doesn’t want to be alone.
It would be completely out of character if it is a sincere, legit thing. However, as a panic response? I buy it. But that also doesn’t bode well for their future. Darn. Hold on, I’ll get the champagne. That relationship is just waiting to be bones. And in an episode called, “You Don’t Know Me,” is where they’re putting their relationship under a microscope? Hildy, cue up the ominous music.
I doubt the glorious day we are free of her will be this week. I think they are just starting whatever they have planned. Unfortunately. I would hope they kept her around and brought her back for a reason like what they did with Eddie/Ana. I want there to be something satisfying about the end and the fact that we have to suffer through this. It just needs to happen quickly because I am so over homophobic terfs who know what fucking show they’re on and what the story is and still persist in their assholish bigotry.
Now? My thoughts on the leaks?
IF we are to believe they are legit, and who knows if they are. But if we are saying they are legit, then Buck comes out to Eddie at the very end and Eddie is surprised. So, Eddie likely wouldn’t be jealous or weird about Buck and Tommy dating if he didn’t even know they are dating. Plus, they just had a whole episode dedicated to jealous!Buck and it would be redundant to immediately take that into, now EDDIE is the JEALOUS ONE. I think they’d have to take the story further for Eddie to really consider how he feels about Buck and Tommy dating.
Maybe it will come down to him being displeased by it (for some unknown reason he just can't put his finger on) and grappling with how he genuinely likes Tommy a lot and that’s a new thing for him and one of Buck’s love interests? But it wouldn’t happen this week. In theory, this week is about Buck feeling like he’s hiding because he just realized he’s bi and hasn’t told anyone yet. Hence, more of the “you don’t know me.”
Obviously, I am rooting for Buddie. All the way. All the time. I like Buck/Tommy just fine but they’re not BuckandEddie. But I think it will take a while before we see anything that might really develop the Buck & Eddie storyline. They’re working on Buck’s bisexual awakening and his first time dating a man. WHERE OH WHERE ARE MY EDDIE STORYLINES.  I just want them to do some justice for my boy. Give him something interesting! And for the terf to gtf away from him. :D
And apologies, I rambled a lot at you. Love and hugs!

____________
I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 24 because Buck and Eddie are married and the Diaz family is starting the second half of their two-week long European family adventure. For anyone who hasn't read Chapters 22 and 23, here's a brief overview. In Chapter 22, Buck and Eddie got married, Chris was their best man and Eddie successfully surprised Buck with all the things he had planned for him including a three-tier wedding cake. Their honeymoon started that night and they had an important conversation before they consummated their marriage. In Chapter 23, they left Rome the day after their wedding and proceeded to visit 5 other cities for the remainder of their time in Italy. By the end of it, they agreed to continue speaking Italian even after they return to the U.S. because while they were in San Gimignano, they made a decision that could affect the course of their family's lives forever. What was the decision? 👀
They departed Rome at the end of the chapter and they landed in London on Christmas Eve to start the second half of their family adventure. What else are they going to do while they're still in Europe? Will Buck meet his biological father? 🤷🏽‍♀️
___________
Here's a snippet from Chapter 24 of Buck and Eddie being romantically fluffy and completely head over heels in love with each other early Christmas morning.
_________
The clock on the nightstand reads 5:18AM and the room is almost pitch black since the curtains are drawn.  Even though the lights with a hot pinkish hue that are shining from the London Eye aren’t beaming into the room, they can still see each other because the numbers on the clock are vibrant neon red and they’re illuminating enough of the space for them to see.
Since it’s 29 degrees Fahrenheit outside and it’s frigidly cold, Buck turned the thermostat up to 75 degrees before they went to bed last night so the suite would remain warm and cozy.  They’re gloriously naked but they’re not cold at all; in fact everything is steamy and hot for them since they’re underneath the covers and their bodies are dripping with sweat.  Currently they’re so gone on each other that they’re entering a place called ecstasy.
Eddie’s deep inside of Buck, he’s thrusting his hips just the way his husband likes it, his right hand is wrapped around Buck’s hard length and he’s stroking him all while passionately tongue kissing him.  He’s making love to him and he has been for the past several minutes but the more he thrusts his hips, the closer both of them get to the edge.
Buck moans into the kiss and he makes that high pitched noise in the back of his throat Eddie loves to hear.  Since he wants to hear it again, he slightly adjusts the angle of his hips so he can hit Buck’s prostate again and after he pulls almost all the way out and pushes all the way in as deep as he can go, Buck makes the noise once more but this time it’s followed by an obscene moan.
He breaks the kiss but he doesn’t lose his rhythm and after he pulls back, he presses his cheek against Buck’s and whispers, “Amore mio… ti amo co—si… tan—to!”  [My love… I love you so much!”]
As he continues to match everyone of Eddie’s downward thrusts with an upward one of his own, he replies, “Ti amo… con tut—to il cuore!” [“I love you… with all my heart.”]
As of this very moment, they’ve been married for 1 week, 14 hours and 18 minutes.  They’re still on their honeymoon and every second of every day, they fall even deeper in love.
They’re lost in a haze of love making, they entered ecstasy a long time ago and they’re so close to the edge that they both know they won’t be able to hold on much longer.
He lifts his head to meet his husband’s eyes and says, “My love… come with me!  Let’s do it tog—ether just—just like we did on our wedding night”.
And that’s all it takes for them to climax together.
Eddie collapses on top of him and after they come down from their euphoric high, Buck kisses his cheek and when Eddie moves his head so their faces are in front of each other’s again, he kisses his husband long, deep and slow.
Once he breaks the kiss, he talks against his lips and whispers, “Merry Christmas, my love”.
With his legs still wrapped around Eddie’s waist, his million-dollar Eddie smile graces his lips and he replies, “Merry Christmas to you too and just so you know… I want you to wake me up like this every Christmas morning for the rest of our lives”.
“Oh yeah?”
He nods and says, “I sure do so uh… promise me that we’ll always make love on Christmas morning”.
Eddie places a soft kiss onto his lips, returns a beaming smile and asks, “Even when we’re old and gray?”
“Even then… I—I mean uh… as long as our hips still work.”
Eddie bursts out laughing but he buries his face in between Buck’s neck and shoulder to hide the sound and Buck laughs too and he does the same.  They’re trying to be quiet because Chris is still sleeping and even though his bedroom is on the other side of the suite, they don't want to wake him.
What is Eddie going to say next?
___________
This is an EPIC LOVE STORY!

Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago.  They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.

Chapter 9 - Buck and Eddie are there for each other when Buck has to testify as a witness during the trial.  But by the end of it, they’ll both realize their individual and shared traumas are going to keep resurfacing until they talk about them, deal with the fact that they’re in love with one another and face the fact that they can’t live without each other.
Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories.  Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.
Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie.  It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.
Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.
Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?
Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.
Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.
Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant. The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.
Chapter 18 - As Buck, Eddie and Chris prepare for family gatherings before and during the Thanksgiving holiday, the “Santa Ana Winds” start to blow and all sorts of expected and unexpected familial drama ensues.
Chapter 19 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to their wedding day, the universe begins to align everything so that some of their parent and children's relationships are strengthened while others come to an abrupt end.
Chapter 20 - With only 14 days remaining until Buck, Eddie and Chris depart Los Angeles, CA traveling to Rome, Italy, for their first family adventure, an early morning conversation about “tying up loose ends” helps Buck and Eddie realize there are still several things left unfinished on their ‘To Do’ lists. The question is will there be enough time to complete all of them?
Chapter 21 - Buck, Eddie and Chris are finalizing their ‘To Do’ Lists, double checking their itineraries and packing their suitcases in preparation for their trip to Europe so they can board their flight that departs Los Angeles, CA on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 3:25PM.
Chapter 22 - While Buck, Eddie and Chris spend the first 8 days of their European family adventure in Italy, their primary reason for going will be fulfilled as well as several others they hadn’t considered or anticipated.
Chapter 23 - As the Diaz Family continues their Italian family adventure, they’ll say, “Ciao” or hello and goodbye to a lot of things almost immediately after they become an official and legal family.
Chapter 24 - Will be posted soon.

I and love and you
Set post In Another Life so y'know. Spoilers ahead.
[Read on AO3]
The first SOS text comes two days after Buck is released from the hospital: help they’re driving me crazy. Eddie squints at it, waiting for more, and when it doesn’t come, he skips replying and hits call.
“Hey,” Buck answers, and he’s trying so hard to sound upbeat, but Eddie knows him well enough to hear the cracks.
“Hey,” he echoes, and it comes out softer than he means it to. “Your parents?”
The snick of a door closing—the balcony, Eddie guesses—and the scrape of a chair before Buck says, “Ugh. My parents.”
Eddie pours himself a fresh cup of coffee, then pulls out his own chair, making himself comfortable at the kitchen table while they talk.
“It was nice,” Buck adds, before Eddie can prompt him. “At first, I mean. They were… concerned, I guess. I mean, I know they were.”
Eddie hums. He thinks this is the part where he’s supposed to say, “of course they were concerned, they’re your parents,” but he doesn’t. They both know he wouldn’t really mean it.
“Buying me a couch is one thing,” Buck goes on, and Eddie gets halfway to wait, what— but he’s already moving on. “But I woke up this morning and mom was rearranging my closet? She said she wanted the clothes to be easier for me to reach, but it’s a closet, Eddie, isn’t the whole point that the clothes are already in reach?”
It’s too easy to picture Buck when he has just woken up, bleary eyed and fluffy haired, squinting against the morning sunlight because he always forgets to close the blinds. Probably pillow creases on his face too, whatever hoodie he wore to bed twisted up around him, one sock lost somewhere down the end of the bed. That little scrunch between his eyebrows that Eddie used to imagine reaching across the pillow to smooth away in those long months of quarantine. That he still imagines smoothing away some mornings, when he gets up and finds Buck still asleep on the couch because he didn’t want to drive home the night before.
“Rearranging your closet does seem a little overkill,” he agrees, probably a beat too late.
“It’s not just that,” Buck complains. “It’s everything. My meds, the food I eat—even when I got up to go to the bathroom earlier, they both tried to help me, like I can’t walk across my own apartment without collapsing or something.”
It’s too easy to picture that too: Buck collapsing. Buck not breathing. Buck’s heart not beating. Eddie swallows, then swallows again, holding his coffee mug tight against a rush of cold that makes him shiver.
“Why don’t I come pick you up?” he offers, and he doesn’t care if it’s selfish. “I’m sure Chris would love to see you when he gets home from school.”
There’s a smile breaking through the tiredness in Buck’s voice when he asks, “Just Chris?”
They used to joke like this. Eddie knows what his line is supposed to be, knows how he’s supposed to carry the joke, but that was before. Before Buck got struck by lightning, before his heart stopped beating, before Eddie cried over his hospital bed while Chris begged him to wake up.
“I’d love to see you too,” he says, and it feels like too much truth and not enough at the same time. It’s I and love and you, but they’re not fit together the way he wants them to be. The way he means them but can’t bring himself to say.
He wonders if Buck hears it anyway, with the way his voice catches before he replies, “I’d love to see you too.”
They stood on top of the fire engine together once, braced against wind and speed as they tried to catch a man hanging from a plane. Eddie still remembers the way the adrenaline tasted, the way they grinned at each other, the way he knew that Buck would catch him if he fell. He could fall now, he thinks, and Buck would catch him. Buck will always catch him.
But not today. Probably not tomorrow either. They still have time.
Eddie stands and pours his mostly untouched coffee down the sink.
“I can be there in twenty,” he says. “You can tell your parents you’ve got a better offer for the afternoon.”
Buck laughs, then groans. “Ouch. Don’t make me laugh.”
“It’s not my fault you think I’m funny,” Eddie answers, and it’s easier this time, to joke the way they always have. To hear Buck breathing on the other end of the line and take his own breath to match.
“I never said you were funny,” Buck protests, but he’s still smiling. Grinning, probably.
Eddie takes a second to close his eyes and picture it—Buck grinning, Buck breathing, Buck alive—then he grabs his keys and heads for the door.
He doesn’t hang up.
Buck doesn’t hang up either, even when he gets too tired to talk.
For the twenty minutes across town, Eddie listens to the sound of his best friend breathing, and the muted sounds of LA traffic in the background, and something else. Something that might be the sound of the wind whistling four stories up, or might be nothing at all.
“I’m here,” he says when he is pulling into a parking spot.
And Buck says, “okay, see you in a minute,” but he still doesn’t hang up the phone until Eddie is knocking on the apartment door. He’s pretty sure that doesn’t mean nothing. He’s pretty sure that, if he asked, it might mean everything.
(I and love and you, fit together in all the ways he wants them to be.)
But not today. Probably not tomorrow either.
They still have time.

Mini costume meta
Gonna throw in a very mini costume meta because now I’ve got a proper look at Bucks velvet jacket I am having a lot - and I mean a lot of feelings about it.
For starters this jacket is not maroon - it is burgundy and that is an important distinction. maroon is a more brown toned colour while burgundy is a more red and purple toned colour and they have very different meanings.
I’m not sure how easily you can see it from these two pictures, but the tee Buck wears when he tells Christopher about Eddie getting shot - in 4x14 - is much more brown toned, while the velvet suit jacket has much more of a purplish tone to it (i’m hoping for better pictures of the suit jacket when the episode actually airs as the screenshots I grabbed are not the best!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Like I’ve said in previous metas, maroon has been used in scenes where a character is taking on some form of parental role - this is something thats been going on since season 1 and its been used on pretty much all the characters. Buck telling Chris about the shooting is the most obvious example, but Eddie in the last episode when Buck went over to the Diaz house was making Christopher's lunch - a parental thing. We’ve also seen Bobby in maroon a fair amount when he’s needed to step into a parental role - think back to Bobby telling Harry he needed to clear the table - that he couldn’t be best buddy Bobby anymore, and needed to be step dad Bobby and so on.
Maroon is thought to promote comfort and warmth, it is also a colour of strength and maturity - all things associated with parenthood. It is also a colour often associated with drying blood which connects it to the idea of blood ties - which equals family ties.
Then we have burgundy - a colour of sophistication. It’s a powerful colour commonly associated with refinement - stemming from the idea that a Burgundy wine is among the best and most expensive in the world. This association also means Burgundy is associated with wealth - the perfect colour for Buck to be wearing while he’s winning at poker!
The other thing about burgundy though is that it is also associated with lust, passion and desire - it is a colour very much connected with romance and deep love as it is a deep form of red!
Combined with the black of the rest of the outfit, including the black wide peaked satin lapels, which is a colour of elegance, sophistication, power and seduction, as well as the choice of velvet and satin for the blazer - two fabrics considered to be symbols of wealth luxury and sophistication I think it’s safe to say that this outfit is very much an outfit one would chose for a date. Peaked lapels are an interesting choice - they are the most difficult lapel to achieve and are considered the mark of an accomplished tailor - hinting at the idea that Buck has been on a difficult journey, but will achieve success with it. it can also hint at him being accomplished at cards!
Its also worth mentioning that velvet as a word is a slang term for money acquired through gambling 👀👀👀
Last thing to note is that Eddie is not the only one wearing a new and more blingy watch - Buck is also wearing a new one - we only get a couple of very brief glimpses and I’m hoping we’ll see a bit more of it once the episode airs, but I am very literally screaming over it. (you can see a tiny glimpse in the still below)
Tumblr media
Buck has had the same watch since season 1 - no deviations, just the same watch! and now - now we get a new one! Post dying, post coma dream, post Buck going to the Diaz house and sleeping on the couch and post Buck appearing all contemplative and figuring things out at the end of last episode we see Buck in a new watch!!!!
The fact that they both appear to be wearing metal watches means we have the possibility that their watches are going to potentially match up, because metal watches are more showy and confident - they’re less practical (especially if you’re a fire fighter) and are therefore much more about making a statement of some sort. Them both wearing them for the first time at the same time is a choice! Not to mention the fact that while Eddies watch is out and proud - on display for everyone to see, Bucks is mostly hidden - we only get to see a tiny part of it for a moment. The idea that Eddie is confident and essentially putting this new version of himself out there for people to see, while Buck is ‘on the same page’ but still mostly hiding his new self - he’s still uncertain about it etc is a choice - especially as we’ve seen watch theory around Buck expand much more this season than previously! I should also mention the fact that the show very loudly made a big thing about Michael buying David a watch as an engagement gift - rather than a ring - and we don’t see any other (male)  characters wearing metal watches, so for them to choose now to put Eddie in a metal watch as well as possibly Buck is making a very purposeful connection!!
I really can’t wait to see if we’re going to get more of these watches - if we do I’m expecting we’ll only see them connected to Buddie developments and that they’ll revert to their normal watches for other non work scenes (I’m expecting the brown leather strap watch for whatever date(s) Pepa has set Eddie up on!!)!

ok i’m talk about hen because god, i love her.
henrietta wilson and her character and storyline is very personal to me. without giving too much away about my personal life, she is very very similar to my sister. so its safe to say, she has my whole heart.
a lot of the talk (on my feed) lately around 7x04 and 7x05 has been about buck, which is fair, and you create your own feed yada yada. but i wanna talk about hen and her storyline(s) this season.
i will preface this by once again saying that hen’s character means a lot to me because she reminds me so much of my sister, so i’m going to have bias, and my view is going to be different and probably very opinionated and i’m aware of that.
we’re gonna start with the things i’m loving so far this season:
the first being that i love captain hen. it makes so much sense to me that hen would be the one to fill in for bobby (i can elaborate on that if y’all want just scream at me in my asks).
i love that we are seeing more interactions between hen and maddie. i think it’s really important that we see their relationship not only because maddie is chimney’s wife, but also because she’s buck’s sister. and hen obviously cares about the both of them so much, so to see hen interacting with the people that love the people she loves is mwuah so good!
the current henren storyline is so important. i love love love their growth as foster parents and i think mara’s story is going to be equally heartbreaking and heartwarming. i’m just excited to see how she fits into the wilson family.
now the things i’m not loving:
the fact that maddie was the one to call everyone in instead of hen. i feel like hen has never been wrong when it comes to her gut?? i can understand the fact that if she was going to get in trouble, she was just going to get herself alone in trouble, but have we not learned by now that there is strength in numbers?
the henren and mara storyline being put in 7x05. i’ve said before that 7x05 felt very rushed and i don’t like that there were three major storylines packed into one episode on top of the calls that the team goes on. in general i would’ve liked to see all the storylines in 7x05 be in their own episode with the calls instead of the chaos and the rush that is the 7x05. but the mara storyline is definitely one i’m invested in and i would love to see it handled with care and not rushed like the entirety of the latest episode was.
finally what i would like to see for hen, henren, and the wilson family in general:
i want to see more maddie and hen scenes. and more henren and madney scenes. we get a lot of emotional and hilarious screen time with chimney and hen but we don’t really see them interact with each other’s families outside of the 118. i would just love to see more of that. especially since both henren and madney have kids and i just want to see something that shows the parents of show interacting.
and to piggyback off of that, i want to see more eddie and hen!!! we don’t see much of their relationship but i think it makes sense the two would be close and hang out outside of work especially because denny and chris are close in age. once again, i just want to see the parents of the show interact more outside of calls.
now i’m gonna bring buck into this. i would love to see a scene between buck and hen regarding buck coming out. i just know would be so nurturing and supportive but also ready to tease the hell out of him especially after hearing how the first bucktommy date went.
lastly, i want to see how mara’s story plays out more than anything. it’s not going to be easy and i am so looking forward to the angst of it all but also the fluff and growth of hen’s character and the entire wilson family.
that’s majority of it (i have so many thoughts about hen, but they’re personal since she does remind me of my sister) but please feel free to come scream with me in my asks!!

You're All I Want~ Joseph Quinn ft Joe Keery
Tumblr media
Requested : Yes
Anonymous asked:
Hellooo! I loved your recent joe quinn x reader fic! I was wondering if you could also do a joe quinn x reader x platonic!Joe Keery based on like the interview with Sofia Boutella/Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto (where they are promoting the new Star Trek movie and they’re both very touchy with Sofia)
Reader and Joseph are in the very early stages of dating (she’s also a cast member but they like to be private about their relationship) but Joe Keery likes to push some buttons and starts getting touchy with reader in an interview and Joseph is kinda jealous so he also starts getting touchy and its basically just both of them battling for the reader’s attention and after the interview is released the fans ofcourse love this interaction but Joseph feels a little insecure about it.. you can finish it how you like it!!
Thank you! Keep up the good writing!!
Author's Note : Hi! Thank you so much, that means a lot to me. Hope you enjoy!
Not many people knew that you were dating Joseph, you two liked to keep your relationship private. It's still new and Joseph has been dating you only for a few months. The cast, the crew and the directors knew that you two were together but promised to keep it out of the media. They all knew how the fans might get.
You met Joseph on set, being casted into the new season along side him. Samantha Kyle, your character played Eddie's love interest and your character tutored him to help him graduate, until he finds out you love to play D&D and you join Hellfire.
" Good morning, lovely" your boyfriend greets you as you opened the door. He steps into your apartment, kissing your cheek as he walks into the kitchen to set down breakfast he brought you with coffee.
" Awe, good morning. You didn't need to bring me breakfast" he turns around pulling you into his chest locking his arms around your waist.
" I know, but I wanted to plus we have an interview today with Joe. Speaking of Joe, he is excited to see you today" he tilts his head a bit looking elsewhere as he hums to himself thinking.
" Hey, don't go anywhere. Back to me, babe" you cup his face with one hand, his lip are puckered up. His brown beautiful eyes meet yours as he say something but it results in a muffle.
" What?" He laughed after you release him and repeats what he says, " I said you look beautiful"
" Oh thank you but I haven't even gotten dressed yet"
You were just in your loose shorts and a simple white shirt, you quickly threw it on before you had to answer some emails for work and call your mom.
" You look beautiful in anything and everything" he leans down rubbing his nose against yours, a smile grows on your lip as you lean up on your toes hovering your lips against his.
He smiles against your lips connecting with his as they dance as one. You haven't even noticed that his hands went from your waist to your ass making you gasp as he smacked it.
" Better hurry, we have to go soon" he says pulling away sending you a wink. Your cheeks tint red as well as your ears.
It was still early in your relationship with Joseph but when he acted like this, it made you feel so many things. You grabbed the breakfast he got you with coffee as he told you he would be back, he was going for a smoke telling you had a few mins before you had to get ready. He knows how much you wanted to look pretty even though he told you many times that you were the most beautiful person he has ever seen.
" Man, I'm so lucky" you mumbled to yourself watching him leave.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
" Joe!" you throw your hands up seeing your friend, and cast mate. You haven't talked to him in awhile now and haven't done any interview with him. Joe laughed as he came over wrapping his arms around you, pulling you into him.
Meanwhile Joseph watched the interaction with an uneasy look on his face. He knew you both were good friends, but he didn't really like the way Joe was so happy to see you.
" Joseph!" Joe greets him with a small, a pat on his shoulder. " Keery" he says, nodding and attempts to show a smile. But you knew what that was, it was one of those hey don't really want to talk to you smiles.
As you seated in your chairs for the interview, you leaned over to Joseph asking him if he was alright. He nodded leaning his head on his hand as he looked over to you catching your eye.
You kissed his cheek to make him feel more comfortable. Joseph only smiled reaching for your hand as he brought it to his lips kissing your palm.
" You guys are cute" Joe says as he watches you two. You turned to look at him, " Why thank you."
Before the interview started, both Joe and Joseph had moved closer that you almost touched knee to knee with them. Joseph shifted in his seat watching as Joe sat too close for his liking. He already didn't like how this was going to go. He glared down at his legs, one of his hands tight in a fist.
When the interview started, they asked Joseph how it was for him coming onto the set and joining Stranger Things. Joseph hasn't noticed it at first but Joe has wrapped around you pulling you into him and he doesn't noticed that you and Joe had grabbed hands. But his eyes shifted to you when he finished answering the question and sat up in his seat, nose flaring seeing Joe's arm around you.
He did not like it one bit. Why was Joe Keery touching you?
On the other hand, Joe was just playing around because he knows how to rile up Joseph and he was just having fun with it.
You paid no mind to this, liking the affection. Joe and you were great friends but you haven't noticed how Joseph scowled at him. The interviewer turned to you asking you the same question she has asked Joseph.
" I felt very welcomed on set, immediately becoming fast friends with everyone especially Joseph" you turned to look at him and that's when he his scowl turned into a smile and you turned back to Joe reached over to squeeze his thigh making him jump in his seat and chuckle.
Joe watched with jealousy raging inside him. Now it's you who was playing. Why was your attention to Joe and not him? He pouted in his seat before the interviewer went back to Joseph but you and Joe were playing handsy as he answered, holding his finger before Joe held onto your hand.
You two were smiling at each other as if something was going on. Joe kept watching like a hawk, glaring daggers who he thought was suppose to be his friend and at you, his girl. The both of you were pushing Joseph's buttons and Joseph grew more jealous than ever.
You were asked more questions about your character and how it was working with Joseph. As you turned to him, you felt like he felt sorta left out from the affection. You scooted your seat closer to him, the interviewer watching the two of you as you leaned closer to him.
He wrapped his arms around you and the other rubbed your arm as he watched you answer with adoration and love in his eyes. Joe watched knowing that pushing his friends buttons only made you want to be closer to your boyfriend.
He succeeded.
When the interview was done, Joseph grabbed your wrist gently in his grasp as he pulled you along to leave.
" Wait, I didn't say bye to Joe or thanked the interviewer" you mumbled, pulling your arm from Joseph.
" They will be fine" he says. " Bye!" Joseph said to the both Joe who laughed watching and the interviewer who looked amused. They both had figured out what happened and didn't mind one bit.
He opened the passenger side door, waiting for you to get in.
" Joseph, what was that?" He held the door open, biting his bottom lip. Sunglasses on top of his curls, his lip in a pout and he looked so adorable right now.
" hey" you tugged on his arm trying to have him look at you. He rose his eyes to meet yours. " What's wrong?" He looks back from where you came from then back to you.
Your eyebrows frowned together with worry in your eyes as you wait for his answer.
" Joseph.." you start to say but he sighed, " I was jealous" he admits not wanting to hide anything from you.
"Oh, I think I know what's going on" you nodded pulling him to come closer. You took both his hands into your own lacing your fingers through his as you stood on your toes to reach his lips.
" Joe was riling you up by touching me, you wanted it to be you? Am I right?" his eyes are focused on your lips, the way they brush against his lips, the way your breath hovers over his lips and then looks into your eyes then back to your lips which now holds a smirk.
He gasped understanding what had happened. You were trying to make him jealous, to rile him up, to get a reaction out of him.
" You little minx" he grabs your waist pulling you against him, kissing you passionately and squeezing your hips. You plan this with Joe all along, and Joe had no problem with helping.
" How about you come over and I'll show you how sorry I am" he rose his eyebrow liking the idea, he nodded with a smirk of his own.
" Maybe I won't forgive you till tomorrow after noon, who knows how many time you have to prove it" his eyes darken his hand going from your cheek to your throat.
" Be a good girl, and sit or I won't let you touch me at all" you gasped quickly getting into the car before he shut the door coming over to the driver side.
Joseph Quinn can play a game too, all night if he has to with you.

“So, you’re telling me,” Ravi starts in, all wide-eyed and giggly like he’s been given a secret he can’t wait to share, “that you’ve never kissed anyone under a mistletoe? Ever?”
Eddie shakes his head. “Nope,” he replies, shrugs, and adds a few extra spoonfuls of sugar to Buck’s coffee before sliding it his way.

“I didn’t have my money on Eddie kissing you after you lovingly rearranged his shirt,” Chim remarks.
Neither did Buck. Then again, he didn't have his money on Eddie kissing him in the middle of the station at all. No matter how sleep-deprived the man was or how brutal the last few days have been on their nerves.
Or after Abuela gets injured, Buck is determined to help Eddie get through the week preceding his flight to El Paso and, in particular, through an intense shift that ends up hacking the last bits of distance separating them.

Eddie knows they weren’t, he and Buck don’t like to drink during the week, regardless of whether or not they work the next day. But there’s not really a good explanation otherwise. No other way to explain why, as Buck was walking out the door, Eddie leaned in and gave him a soft kiss goodnight.

The Day That Actually Did Get More Ridiculous by R_E_R6

"Any sign of Breaking Bad?" Buck voiced only to receive chuffs from the others before Eddie replied "Nothing yet, think I found the point of origin though. Rug is completely charred between the stash and a nice comfy chair, I'd bet my oxygen tank that the idiot was smoking his own stuff and set the place on fire"
"This story just gets better and better, I don't think this day could get much more ridiculous"
Now Eddie is not very superstitious, but as Buck said these words he could hear his Abuela in his head making proclamations of jinxes. The two had no idea how much more ridiculous this day was about to become.

An enthusiastic pull at his front door reveals his two favourite people and he greets them with a smile.
“Gentlemen, Buck’s House of Homework awaits you.”
“Buck.” Chris sounds exasperated and rolls his eyes as he walks past heading straight for the table but there’s a glimpse of a smile for him despite the welcome.  Behind his son Eddie’s own eyes roll, his face a picture of parental patience worn thin.
Buck wonders if either of them know how similar they look when they do that. Eddie mouths “bad mood” and shakes his head to accompany a shrug that declares he has no idea what’s wrong with the boy in front of him.
With a slight sigh no doubt at the teenage-ness of it all  Eddie walks over to Chris to say goodbye.
“Ok I’m going. I will be back in a couple of hours and then if you have done your homework.” He ruffles Chris' hair and gets an annoyed jerk of protest as Chris moves his head away in an attempt to dislodge his dad’s hand.
That makes Eddie roll his eyes again but while Buck sniggers softly he does feel sorry for his friend , it’s tough adjusting to an almost teenager. Giving up on his son Eddie looks at Buck to continue “and if you haven’t eaten too many snacks” Buck throws him an outraged look at the suggestion. “ I will treat us all to pizza.”
“I can cook us something.” Buck offers quickly because he loves cooking for them, it makes him feel like they’re a family. “I don’t mind.”
Eddie get a soft look on his face as he closes the gap between them and once close enough his hand lifts and then it’s gently holding onto Buck’s arm. It lands just at the edge of his T-shirt sleeve so Eddie’s palm is half on his skin. Buck tries hard not to notice how warm and strong his hand feels.
 “You don’t have to.”
“I know but I like to, cooking’s fun but  usually I can’t be bothered if it's just me so…’” He finishes on a hopeful note.
“Ok, if you’re sure then a home cooked meal with my boys sounds perfect.” The smile on Eddie’s face widens.
Buck looks at him in admiration. God he looks so happy, so much lighter than he has for all the years Buck’s known him. He’s so proud of Eddie, of how far he’s come. The smile on his own face is instinctive, mirroring the one he’s receiving, while at the same time he tries to damp down on all the feelings the words ‘home’ and ‘my boys’ stir in his chest.
Instead of dwelling on all that he pushes Eddie towards the door, “Now go. Go do your things. We’ll be right here.”
Eddie does as he’s told but turns to look at him from the doorway. He pauses, so Buck has the full weight of his warm brown eyes on him for a handful of heartbeats. Just enough time for him to tell himself to stop it; stop reacting, stop hoping, stop wanting. He doesn’t think stop loving. He knows he can’t, he’s tried.
That look gets him every time. You’d think he’d be used to them by now. Eddie doesn’t mean anything by it. He can’t possibly. He shouldn’t let those big brown eyes do anything to him, least of all get his hopes up.
Eddie’s eyes slip from Buck to Chris and then back again, “Be good, both of you. Especially you.” That last bit is accompanied by a quick wink in Buck’s direction that spikes his heart rate instantly.
Then he’s gone and Buck left staring at the door, he turns, a huge sigh slipping out unheeded and finds Chris sat at his kitchen table staring at him, an unreadable expression on his face.
“You ok bud?”
Chris goes “humph”, a noise Buck’s never heard from him before. Looks like Eddie’s right and Chris is in a mood. He decides to ignore it and goes to the fridge to get some drinks for them. If he glances over at his almost teenage companion a few times, just to check which way the wind is blowing mood wise, at least he’s subtle about it.
He takes one final glance over the rim of his juice then risks it.
“You good Chris?”
“Fine.”
Not entirely convincing. He pushes his luck a little further. “You sure?”
This time Chris sighs and dramatically drops his pen on the table.
“Buck?” The boy's eyes are fixed on the table. There’s a weighty pause then Chris looks up, right at him and says,
“What’s it like being in love?”
Unfortunately for him, he’d just taken a mouthful of juice so the question reduces Buck to a coughing and spluttering mess.
That came completely out of left field. At least he hopes it did. Shit. What if Chris has worked it out. What if Chris has noticed how he feels about his dad and worse what if he tells Eddie and what if they both end up hating him for it. What if he loses them, what if, what if, what if….
Chris is looking at him, he has to get it together. Grabbing a cloth to wipe at his face and dab the stains from his top Buck says, “Um.”
Which is marvelously articulate and not at all suspicious. So he tries again and this time manages something a little more like an actual sentence.
“So I’m…um  why why um… why would you think I know that?”
Chris looks at him like he’s stupid. “Uh cos you're old, and haven’t you been in love like loads of times?”
Oh thank god, his heart rate crashes back to normal. That’s ok then. He can handle that.
He crosses the room to sit with Chris.
“No, not really, definitely not lots of times anyway.”
Counting backwards from Eddie he thinks maybe three, is that too many or not enough for a man his age. It’s nowhere near his other number, that one has never had a lot to do with love but that’s hardly something to be discussing with Christopher.
Christopher’s question is tricky but he tries to be helpful. “And I think love feels different each time and different for different people, so really it’s difficult to explain.”
Chris looks extremely unimpressed by this piece of news.
“That’s not helpful. How am I supposed to know then!?”
Buck chuckles at the plaintive question but Chris has a point.
“It’s tricky. Sorry bud, no easy answers.” He waits a few seconds. “So am I allowed to ask why you want to know, might help me be more specific?”
Chris looks away, confirming Buck’s suspicions so he keeps his voice gentle, “Maybe you like someone? Or maybe you think you do?”
Chris’s eyes dart back to his then down. His voice is quiet.
“Maybe.”
“Is this about Valentines?”  It’s the 14th in three days.
Chris’ nod is so small it would be easy to miss.
“You thinking about maybe giving someone a card?” Buck’s tries to keep the ‘aw that’s adorable’ look off his face but Chris’ little face screws up, and damn it, he’s still so cute although Buck would never dare say that these days.
Eventually Christopher reluctantly commits to another “Maybe.”
After a second failed attempt to catch his eye Buck says “You don’t have to sign it you know.”
This time Chris sighs and says with a hit of irritation “I know that!” Buck waits. “but I don’t even know if I like them or if I like them. It’s so confusing!”
Oh. Buck can identify with that. His mouth twists into a small sympathetic smile.
“Yup, it certainly is.”
“Even for grown ups?” Chris sounds horrified.
“Absolutely!”
To be honest he's pretty sure it never actually gets any easier or if it does he’s still waiting for it to happen.
“So how am I supposed to know if you guys can’t even tell! It’s impossible!!”
Chris sounds quite emotional and Buck doesn’t exactly panic but he doesn’t want to do  the wrong thing either.
“Maybe we should wait for your dad? You, you should probably talk to him about this. Not me.”
Chris pulls another one of  those ‘are you stupid faces’.
“Why not? I wanna talk to you. You’re like my second dad anyway.”
Buck’s heart stops.
“Chris…” his own voice is breathless and barely audible even in the silence of his loft.
The boy before him has no idea he’s said anything remarkable, he looks up, confused at the change of his tone. “What? That’s what dad says. He says it all the time.”
Buck's brain is struggling to keep up. He’s rather stunned by Chris' casual comments. He has to swallow before he can ask,
“H he does?”
“Yup” Chris doesn’t even look up this time just does his next math problem like he hasn’t rocked Buck’s entire world.
“He’s always telling people about you, my teacher, the neighbours. He even told my dentist about you last week, when she was going on about enamel. Dad said “Buck already told him that but who listens to their dad!” Chris says it in an pretty good impression of Eddie, then mutters to himself “embarrassing! I listen, just don’t wanna brush sometimes.”
Buck blinks rapidly. Had Eddie really said that? About him?
“Anyway,” Chris carries on oblivious to his inner turmoil “tell me what it’s like being in love.”
“Um” he wants to say it’s like this, your heart going crazy because you think for just a second they might love you back.
It’s wanting to be part of someone’s life so badly your whole body aches with it,  that you want to belong to them and have them choose you back.
It’s a voice you turn to with a smile already on your face because you know the face you’ll see will be your favourite one.
It’s brown eyes, that see all of you and smile.
He doesn’t say any of that. How could he, so he stalls until he can find words better suited to a young man with questions about his heart.
Proud his voice sounds so normal Buck buys himself time.
“Hey, I’ve got an idea.”
Chris looks at him suspiciously but Buck grabs some card and pens and waves them enthusiastically.
“Why don’t you make a Valentine’s card and we can talk about it. Then at the end if you decide you like them like that , you’ll have something to give them.
Chris eyes narrow thoughtfully, “Ok, it’s not a terrible idea but you have to make one too.”
He laughs, it’s either that or sigh, “ I haven’t got anyone to give one to.”
Chris gives him a look he doesn’t quite understand and mutters something under his breath again, this time Buck only catches a few words but “could” and “tried” are clear enough.
“What was that?” He studies his companion with a slight frown, he’s feeling a little confused by surly pre teen Chris, his sympathy for Eddie is increasing dramatically by the minute.
“Nothing, but I’m only making one if you do.”
It’s not worth arguing so he gives in , “Ok, if you insist.”
He has no idea what he’ll do with his card but if it helps Chris work through some stuff he’s all for it.
“Let’s finish your homework then we can get creative.”

"Boys, can you please chill?" You're whispering. "I actually want to see this movie."
On either side of you, Steve and Eddie drop back into their seats. Steve pouts with puppy dog eyes, while Eddie whines quietly. The three of you are at the movies, seeing the latest release, Adventures in Babysitting. You're in the middle holding the popcorn Steve had bought and the candy Eddie had snuck in. Each boy has a drink, since they apparently can't agree on a soda to share—Coca-Cola for Steve and Dr. Pepper for Eddie. Girlfriend privileges also mean you can drink from either one during the movie. You also have a water bottle in your bag, in case all this junk food gets to be too much, or the boys start whinging about their stomachs hurting (but refuse to blame it on the junk food).
They'd both been kissing your neck, preparing to just all make out and not pay attention to the movie, which you do half the time. You've never understood it—why pay for the tickets if you're not gonna watch the movie—but when they drag you to a boring movie you don't want to see, how could you complain? They were much more interesting. But you want to watch this one, like you'd told them, so you push them back. They’re trying to make you feel bad, but it’s a fruitless endeavor.
"Come on," you continue at their looks. "I'm not stopping you two from making out." Eddie actually moves to stand, but stops when you add nonchalantly, "Though I think you'd like it too."
Knowing what you really mean, he sighs and sits back down, getting comfortable. You give him a grateful look and hold out your hand, which he takes. Steve hooks his foot around yours, and rests his arm on top of your seat, lightly placing his fingers on Eddie's shoulder to placate him further. With both of you touching him in some way, he relaxes. You hold back a giggle.
"Thank you," you say gently, meaningfully. Both of them lean over to kiss your cheek, and this time you giggle out loud.
And you turn out to be right. Both of them do like the movie—Eddie for its action and crazy plot, Steve for its love interest Dan (you thought he would identify with him)—as do you, for lead Chris and the romantic story. On the way home, you talk animatedly about the events in the city, and speculate whether it'll be like that when you move to Providence in August, though you do point out that it's much smaller than Chicago, where the movie takes place. Eddie and Steve wave away your comment, and feed off each other to propose more and more wild things that could happen. You just watch and listen, amused.
You're attending Rhode Island's Johnson & Wales University in the fall, pursuing a degree in event management. Nina's wedding had been fun to plan and manage, and your friends had convinced you to apply for a program in event planning. You hadn't actually planned on going to school for event management, but J&W had surprised you by offering the most scholarship money, and you'd fallen in love with the campus when Nina had driven you on a college tour during the winter.
You'd voiced your hesitation to the boys once you'd gotten together, but they didn't wait a second to encourage you to go. Neither of them had concrete plans and so you mutually decided you would all go together—Eddie could do music anywhere, and Steve was still searching for what he wanted and thought traveling could help. Robin and Vickie were pretty upset that both you and Steve were leaving—someone had used the word “devastated”—but you'd both promised them there would be plenty of visits home and in Providence. Nina was just relieved you were in the same timezone—though she was happy it was her wedding that caused all this.
Steve pulls up to the apartment complex and hops out, still theorizing with Eddie even as he gives you his hand to help you out of the car. They keep it up all the way upstairs and into Steve's apartment, where you leave them in the living room and check if Robin is home. Looks like she's out—probably with Vickie. They'd officially gotten together a little after you, Steve, and Eddie had, to your delight.
You wander back to the boys, toeing off your shoes and dropping your bag along the way. You lean against the doorway and stare at Steve and Eddie, still talking chaotically. You smile, in awe and wonder and joy, as you marvel that they're yours and you're theirs.
Eventually they taper off and notice your distance. They look at you curiously, blissfully silent. You smirk. "Well, boys, looks like we're here alone. Should we pick up where we left off?"
Before you can finish the question, both of them are stalking towards you, but Steve comes too fast and you knock foreheads.
“We’ve got to stop meeting like this,” he jokes, making you giggle. Then he pulls you towards him and kisses you hungrily, while Eddie plasters himself against your back and starts sucking at your neck. You kiss Steve back with a passion, still grateful you got a second chance to get it right, even after all this time. Even after every kiss they have given you since.
When you need to breathe, Eddie forces your head to the side and kisses you too, licking inside your mouth with a domineering tongue. You let him take what he wants, wanting him to do what he likes with you.
"Well, pretty girl, how would you like us this evening?" Steve asks as he nibbles on your earlobe. Ever mindful of your confession that you want to save yourself for love, either he or Eddie asks a variation of that question when it gets spicy, letting you set the pace. It makes the butterflies that are always in your stomach when they're around move in double-time.
You hum, enjoying as Eddie presses hot kisses to your jaw on his way back to your neck, where he starts sucking a hickey into the skin. You've been ruminating lately, wondering whether it was the right time. You hadn't been entirely sure, but in this moment, you know it is. It's what you've been waiting for.
"I wanna—" You break off into a moan as Steve grinds his hips into yours. Breathily, you try again. "I wanna do it. Wanna go all the way."
Both Steve and Eddie stop their ministrations, and you whine at the loss of sensation. "Baby," Steve says gravely, lifting your chin so you're looking him in the eye. "Are you sure?"
You nod firmly.
"Come on, sweetheart," Eddie prompts. "Gotta hear you. What do you want?"
Presence of mind back, however briefly, you state, "I want both of you to fuck me." Sweet and to the point.
It works too, because your boys groan in sync and dive back in to taste you again with a feverish fervor. You squeal at the suddenness of their actions, but it soon turns into small whimpers and moans as they ramp up the mood again.
Steve pushes you backwards gently, and Eddie gets the point, tugging you with him into the hallway and down to Steve's bedroom. Thankfully he has a king-size bed, and so whenever you tumble onto it, no one goes falling off. Eddie sits, keeping you on his lap facing the room, making you sit directly on his crotch and hardening cock. He grunts at the friction and chases after it, moving your hips so you keep grinding against him.
Steve stands in front of you, kissing you again, fresh desire lacing his movements. When you need to breathe, he leans back, both of you panting. "So our beautiful girl finally wants to get fucked, huh?"
You nod and hum a yes, words taken away by Eddie's cock starting to hit your clit through your underwear.
"Think she's wearing a bit more clothes than she should, don't you think, Harrington?" Eddie asks, the air brushing against your ear and making you shiver.
"You know what, you're completely right, Munson," Steve agrees. "Okay, honey. Up and clothes off."
Eddie helps you to stand and you step away so you can undress as quickly as you can. But your hands stutter as Steve slips into your previous position and kisses Eddie, who reciprocates happily. You can't tear your eyes away as their lips move against each other, haphazardly removing articles of clothing as you belatedly remember how to take them off. When you're finally naked, Steve is mouthing at Eddie's neck, whose head is thrown back in pleasure.
You walk to the other side of the bed and climb on, tangling your hands in Eddie's hair and tugging his face towards yours. You kiss him, swallowing the whimpers he releases as Steve nips at his skin playfully.
"Who do you want first, angel?" Steve asks breathlessly, leaning back from Eddie but not going far. You wrench away from Eddie to look at him, making Eddie whine as you still have a hold on his hair. You let go and rub his shoulder apologetically, all while making searing eye contact with Steve. "Well?" He prompts again.
You shrug helplessly.
Steve chuckles. "Personally, I would like to go first, if that's okay with you, baby," he says, cupping Eddie's cheek. Secretly, despite knowing you're on the pill, he can't stop thinking about fucking you full of his cum and imagining you pregnant with his baby.
"Fine with me," Eddie replies. Secretly, there's something that thrills him about the idea of fucking you while Steve has already cum inside.
"Such a good boy," Steve coos as he leans forward and kisses Eddie. After, Eddie rolls his eyes, but you see the way he swallows heavily. He's got a praise kink just like the rest of you.
You drop your chin and put on a shy face. "What is it, princess?" Eddie asks when he notices.
"Can I..." You trail off, and both boys nod encouragingly. "Can I pick the arrangement?"
"Of course, my love." Steve is melting. "Whatever you want."
"How do you want us, baby?" Eddie rubs his hand on your thigh soothingly.
"Mm, I want Steve lying down." Before you can add more, you're being moved, lifted off the bed as Eddie stands and Steve does as you asked. You motion him farther up, and he scoots back until his head is on the pillows. "And you're here," you point to a spot in between Steve's spread legs, looking at Eddie. He follows directions, kneeling there obediently. "And I'm here." You clamber onto the bed and swing your leg over Steve, facing Eddie. "And no more pants."
Eddie scrambles to take his off, as you unbutton Steve's for him, pushing until Eddie takes over and pulls them off, boxers included. Shirts had been discarded long ago; you don't even remember when they were removed.
You stare at their cocks as they're revealed. You've seen them before, of course—you've done many other things that aren't penetrative sex—but they take your breath away every time. They're both big and gorgeous, Eddie just a little longer but Steve a bit wider. You never thought you'd be into blowjobs, but they do make your mouth water.
You start to move down Steve's body, towards that beautiful cock, when he catches your hips and stops you. He tuts. "Haven't you learned by now, honey?" He asks a tad condescendingly, making you flush. "You cum first."
"Every time?" You whine, as you accommodate his desire for you to slide back on him.
"Every time, princess," Eddie says with a mean smirk. The reassurance makes your arousal flare brighter and he knows it.
And then you're whining for a completely different reason. Steve wastes no time as he plants his lips on your pussy and makes you sink down against him. He tongue moves magnificently, immediately searching out and finding your clit, teasing it before moving lower and licking inside you. You're so wet that the dirty sounds are pronounced in the quiet room.
Eddie notices too. "All that for us, sweetheart?"
You nod, moaning loudly as Steve's mouth moves back up and closes around your clit, sucking harshly.
"How'd we get so lucky?" Eddie continues. "Prettiest girl in the world, all ours." He then wraps his hand around Steve's cock, making his hips jump against Eddie's grip. He starts a lazy rhythm, hand tight but going so slowly that it must be driving Steve crazy. That's confirmed when Steve moans against your cunt, making the vibration shudder through you deliciously. "Prettiest boy, too. Right, angel?"
"Yes," you pant as Steve takes you apart with his mouth. "My beautiful boys, both of you."
Eddie leans forward and kisses you for that, a short one as most of your attention is on how good Steve is making you feel. Eddie then bends over and places his mouth on Steve’s cock, sucking lightly but insistently, making Steve groan into you again. He doesn’t do it for very long—he can tell when Steve is close and knows how turned on he gets by eating you out—but keeps jerking him off, slow and steady.
Steve reaches up and grabs your waist, encouraging you to grind into him, chase your pleasure using him. You take the suggestion and run with it, Steve's mouth just there for you to get yourself off with.
And you do, moving quicker and quicker as the tight ball inside you tightens and then shatters. You close your eyes and keen at the feeling, Steve and Eddie holding you up as the waves keep coming and crashing within you. Steve keeps licking at your cunt to prolong the bliss, only slowing to a stop when you twitch in overstimulation. Eddie's watching you with wide eyes filled with awe.
"That'll never get old," he murmurs. "Gorgeous as ever, angel."
You breathe heavily, trying to get feeling back in your limbs. You smile tiredly. "Your turn," you croak out.
"Steve first, baby," Eddie reminds you as he helps you down, desire growing again at the prospect of both Steve and Eddie finally being inside you. Separately...for now. Maybe you can get them at the same time in the future. There's a fresh wave of pooling arousal as the thought flashes by. "You ready?"
You stare into his eyes and nod seriously.
"Okay, on your knees then." You do as directed, and Steve runs his cock through your folds a few times, bumping your clit teasingly on every pass. Finally, he lines up and Eddie urges you to sit down.
"Slowly, sweetheart," Steve says, voice strained as the tip breaches your entrance. You listen—despite wanting nothing more to sink all the way down and have him split you practically in half—and inch lower. It's a little painful, but there's more pleasure than discomfort, and you love how he feels inside you, so full and all-consuming.
Eventually, you sit down fully on him. He moans at the sensation, but you're speechless, mouth hanging open and eyes closed to really focus on it.
"Feel good, baby?" Eddie asks with a knowing grin. You nod wildly as Steve answers, "Oh my god, yes." He squirms underneath you. "Can you move for me, beautiful?"
Eddie coaxes you into lifting up until Steve's cock is barely inside you. Then you drop down, both of you groaning this time. Knowing what to do and how good it feels, you start a hard and slow pace, using all your strength to raise yourself up and letting go to fall back down. You stay there for a while, just enjoying, but eventually Steve whimpers and stops you. He then holds you up and fucks himself up into you, fast and rough. The stretch is delicious and your jaw drops again at the new rhythm.
Pretty soon, Steve is gasping, "Gonna cum."
"Yes, yes please," you beg, and with that, he stops and lets go. You can feel as his cock pulses, painting inside you with stripes of his cum. You squeeze around him to make it better and he whines at it, lifting you off of him slowly when it becomes too much. He collapses backwards and Eddie gently pushes you until you're lying on the bed next to him.
Steve looks over and smiles at you. "You feel amazing, sweetheart."
You blush but still smile back. Eddie comes up and lays behind you, but you weren’t expecting it and so you startle a little. He chuckles. “Should I take it as a compliment that I can still surprise you?”
You nod, feeling a little sheepish. "Sorry," you mumble.
He softens. "No apologies necessary. This okay, baby?"
"Mhm," you reply happily. Steve leans over to kiss you and you gasp into his mouth when Eddie rubs his cock against your cunt, moaning at how soaked you are with your and Steve's cum.
"Ready?" He whispers when you lean back from Steve, and you nod. Your eyes close as he pushes in, hitting deeper than Steve had by just a little. He goes slow, and the new stretch stings for a few seconds, until it fades into pleasure. He pulls out and then thrusts back in, groaning as he starts fast right off the bat. "You weren't lying, pretty boy."
Steve smirks. "Told you."
He sits up on his knees and leans over you to kiss Eddie, feeling like he was lacking in kisses during his round. With Steve's neck presented to you, you can't help but flick your tongue against his throat, feeling proud when his Adam's apple stutters. You continue to lazily kiss at his skin, mostly focused on how Eddie is ramming into you, hitting a spot inside that makes you see stars. You've never managed to hit it yourself, and though Steve has brushed it with his long fingers, this is the first time it's really being pressed, and it's brilliant.
Then Steve snakes a hand between your bodies and starts to rub your clit in tiny, quick circles, making you gasp away from his neck and throw your head back against Eddie's shoulder. That ball inside you is constricting and you're galloping towards the edge fast.
"Gonna—gonna cum," you stammer.
Eddie breaks from Steve with a moan, hitting into you with new vigor. "Yes," he growls, "cum for us."
"Yeah, baby," Steve breathes. "Let go."
That's what you do: let go, dive off the cliff into your second climax. You wail with it, feeling like the world is floating away from you as you ascend to cloud nine. You clench around Eddie repeatedly, making his hips stutter and jerk, making him groan and bite your shoulder lightly. A couple thrusts later and he's cumming too, adding his cum to Steve's. Steve switches between you as you both let it overwhelm you, kissing, licking, sucking where he can, keeping his fingers on your clit until you've become jell-o in between him and Eddie.
Eddie slides out gently, kissing your temple messily, and turns onto his back. Steve stands and goes to the bathroom, bringing out a rag and cleaning both of you sweetly. Then he's pulling back the covers and throwing them over you, sliding into his previous spot.
He sidles up to you and coaxes you to lay on his chest. Eddie follows and spoons you, leaning up to give Steve a goodnight kiss before settling back against you. You give Steve your own kiss and then turn your head, whining softly until Eddie kisses you too. Satisfied, you get comfortable between your boys, sighing in happiness as they both tighten their arms around you.
"G’night, my loves," Steve murmurs.
"Night," Eddie mumbles into your hair.
I love you, you think. You don't say it, not yet—it's not the right time. You know you really mean it, so it's not for post-sex afterglow.
So you reply, "Goodnight." For now.

After Buck pulls back, he stares into those honey brown eyes he loves so much and exclaims, “Marry me!” And it’s not a question.
Eddie’s already breathless but he still gasps and asks, “What?”
“I want to know if you’ll marry me.” He kisses him once more then he talks against Eddie’s lips. “We’ve already had our first date, that was 6 years and eight months ago when we uh… climbed into the back of an ambulance together and removed a live grenade from Charlie’s leg. We’ve gone on several more since then including Chimney’s missing groom bachelor party last month. We went to play poker together last year and we’ve had countless other dates over the last six years… I mean they were either here or at the loft but they still count, right?”
Eddie smiles and nods because it’s true, they have.
Buck kisses him again and when he breaks it this time, he admits, “We’ve already shared our first kiss and…” He exhales and smiles his Eddie smile because they shared it in the hospital but it was the best kiss of his life. “I don’t want to wait to be married to you anymore.”
How will Eddie respond to Buck's proposal? 👀

Chapter 3 - After bleeding out and dying in a gold mine shaft, Eddie spends hours in surgery but his prognosis is not good, so the doctors place him in a medically induced coma. In the meantime, Buck becomes entangled in a battle with Helena Diaz regarding Buck being named as Chris’ legal guardian. Unfinished business looms on both Buck’s and Eddie’s sides but Buck has to navigate the majority of them on his own.
Chapter 4 - Buck and Eddie go from being best friends to lovers to fiancés to husbands in the space of a few days.

reach my hand through time (hold your hand so tight)
For @evanbucxley 💛
“Look.” Hen has her serious face on. “I don’t know what happened between you two, Buck hasn’t told me much either, but—”
“It was mutual.”
Hen and Karen exchange looks. They’re so in sync and in love and Eddie’s chest doesn’t ache so much as it throbs, sharply, like his heart has been wrung.
“Eddie,” Hen says, the way she would say honey, all warm and gentle, and Eddie’s eyes sting traitorously. “We’re not saying it wasn’t mutual.”
“We’re just saying the misery about it seems pretty mutual too,” Karen adds.
In which Buck and Eddie breakup, get back together, and adopt a cat. In exactly that order.
Eddie isn’t moping.
He doesn’t mean that defensively: he’s pretty sure moping is just too light a word for how utterly, pathetically heartbroken he feels. He goes to sleep heartbroken, wakes up heartbroken, cooks dinner heartbroken.
“You look sad,” Christopher tells him, and Eddie almost cries into his cheesy broccoli because the follow up question is: “When is Buck coming back?”
“We talked about this, Chris.”
They did, the both of them together, and until that moment sitting in the living room with Chris between them, the breakup didn’t feel quite real.
Christopher frowns, poking at his own broccoli. “But you love him.”
Eddie’s throat is so tight he’s not sure how he manages to speak to answer. “It’s not that simple, bud.”
They’re trying hard to keep things normal for Christopher: dinners, and movie nights, and Buck picking him up from school, then staying to work through his science homework before Eddie takes over for English. So much the same, except now Buck leaves at the end of the night, when he used to climb into bed beside Eddie.
“That’s what Buck said,” Chris grumbles, the broccoli massacred on his plate. Then, almost accusing, almost pleading: “He looks sad too.”
Eddie’s heart splinters and splinters and splinters. He can feel the shards being pumped around his body, painful and unforgiving, shredding him apart from the inside out. It would be easier, he thinks, if his heart would just shatter completely, the pain there and gone in one fell swoop. But instead it’s like a beloved broken mug, fumbled and dropped and cracked down the middle but not shattered, broken just enough that it hurts more, holding it in your hands and knowing how close you were to not losing it all.
Each night, Eddie lies awake thinking about all the things they could have done differently. Better. The choices they made and the ones they didn’t. The words they should have said and the ones they can never take back. He thinks about the way Buck last kissed him, a hand on his hip to hold him back before they walked into the station, Eddie’s hand fisting in the front of his jacket, both of them too messy and raw for the parking lot ahead of a twenty-four hour shift.
He thinks: Buck knew, then.
And then he thinks: so did I.
And it hurts, the way things do when you’re heartbroken and not sure you have any right to be.

Some extra thoughts about Buck sees death au (same content warnings for the rest of the fic asdfg)
I always planned to end the fic where I did but I do think the rest of their stay in El Paso is rockier. Chris wakes up really early the next morning and wants to make pancakes but Buck doesn’t want to use ingredients in someone else’s kitchen without permission so they sneak out to a grocery store in their pajamas (they didn’t want to wake Eddie up digging around in the suitcases) and Ramon is up by the time they get back and is disgruntled that they went out into the world less than fully dressed and presentable, and Chris is like “It’s vacation, abuelo, you can wear pajamas on vacation” in his teenager duh voice and Ramon isn’t happy about that either and there’s probably some this is the example you want to set kind of comment aimed at Buck and like Eddie is still in bed and Buck isn’t sure how much he should be pushing back on this so he kind of just tries to smooth it over and start making the pancakes and things are still kind of weird and tense when Eddie gets up but Buck doesn’t want to start anything up again so he just shakes his head at Eddie’s questioning look and starts plating breakfast. (Also he happened to see freesias at the store and got Eddie a little bouquet, the sap.)
And then later in the day Buck gets a migraine (been happening more frequently since the lightning strike but not enough that his doctor is worried) and Eddie is kicking himself because he forgot to pack the excedrin but his mom has some so Buck takes the medicine and Eddie bundles him back to bed and leaves him to rest for awhile and when he comes back out Helena starts asking questions that start off concerned and quickly become pointed about how dangerous their jobs are, how they both put themselves at risk, what would happen to Christopher, maybe Buck should consider non-active duty, he did die after all, etc etc. and Eddie gets very snippy because they’re not going to quit their jobs, he didn’t die, he’s right here in the other room very much alive, and Shannon died crossing a fucking street so anything can happen to anyone at any time, mom, I’m not going to live my life worried about what might happen. I have his back and he has mine. We’re getting married in the summer. He brought me flowers this morning. This is the life I want to live.
And the two of them go out square dancing with Adriana that night and Buck is still terrible at it and Eddie loves him so so much and he gets a little drunk and they make out in the bathroom and he sloppily whispers “I want you inside me so fucking bad” but they don’t actually get around to doing anything more giving each other a hickey or two, Buck promising to treat him so right once they get back home. And maybe Eddie convinces the still sober Adriana to drive them around town to places he used to hang out, which turns kind of sad because they’re mostly places he used to hang out with Shannon. “It hurts sometimes,” he sighs into Buck’s collarbones, “To love somebody so much.” And they hold each other very tight when they get back to the house and go to bed, and are too hungover in the morning to particularly care that Ramon and Helena disapprove of this, too, but goodbyes manage to be civil and when his parents say they’re looking forward to the wedding they mean it, and when they shake Buck’s hand and say they’re glad Eddie has him in his life they mean that too. And driving with a hangover is miserable but they’re together and going home and so things are okay.
And like Buck is still depressed and anxious and working through his ptsd, he’s not just fixed by a few nice conversations with people who love him, but he’s in a much better place than he was throughout winter, and he keeps going to therapy and working on how to feel better and when the freeway collapse happens it doesn’t destroy him as much as he might have expected, because he’s able to get everyone out safe because he really is good at his job and everyone really does have each other’s backs. And in the summer when Buck and Eddie get married it’s truly so lovely. The light is beautiful, and they have breakfast for dinner, and there are freesias everywhere, and its all perfect because they’re here together. And then the next year or the year after they do have another kid, and it’s wonderful and terrifying and hard and the easiest thing in the world and Chris is a fantastic older brother and they all just get to live their lives, with all the good and bad that comes with that. Mostly good! They have each other, it’s mostly good!
And then far future, I think in 20 or so years everyone is at a family bbq and reminiscing about the good ol days and wilder calls they had and Buck is like… i know how this is going to sound but I used to know when people were going to die. And everyone’s like oh yeah you had great instincts and he shakes his head and explains the whole thing and it leads to a terrible fight between him and Eddie because Eddie spent those months very frightened that Buck might try to kill himself. He’s angry that Buck went through this alone, he’s angry that Buck didn’t let him know the truth while it was happening, he’s angry that he wasn’t even entirely wrong. Buck threw himself in front of that car! He wasn’t doing well! By his own admission Bobby used to disappear when he was feeling suicidal, the lightning happened to be the thing that got him but what if, what if, what if. And Buck admits that if he didn’t have Eddie it might have gone another way but he did have him, Eddie took such good care of him even when he was too afraid or sad or exhausted to explain what he was really going through. And Eddie is only angry because he loves him so much so they work it out and then have a lot of tender middle aged sex about it.
Anyway, this was a fun au I had a great time making poor Buck so so miserable! I hope you had fun with it too!
