“Have you seen this man?” she asked, her own Japanese unfamiliar and overly formal.

It wasn’t the best quality image, considering it came from a disposable camera. Three people were clearly visible, standing in front of a Chinese bistro on a sunny day. Lanfa herself, wearing a red qipao and a bright smile, stood beside two men in matching chef uniforms and braided hair. One man was considerably older and shorter than the other, his hair stark white, with a face wrinkled by a mix of time and affection. The other stood taller than both of them, with round glasses and a subtle smile. Lanfa’s finger pointed to him.

Her acquaintance leaned in to check―only to exclaim and lean back in shock. Lanfa watched a few different emotions play across the young man’s face until he drew closer again, this time stroking his chin as his face scrunched with concentration.

“What’s this guy’s name?” he asked with an air of suspicion.

“Long. Jin Long.”

He repeated the name slowly, attempting to mimic exactly how she said it, yet gave pointed emphasis to the first syllable. His arms crossed, and with a determined huff he nodded.

Lanfa’s heart fluttered. This was it―finally, something concrete. No more wishy-washy rumors!

The year of the tiger is ending... I think the kung fu cats would have a feast to celebrate, and make some special bunny food for Alice to usher in the new year of the rabbit! Here they're waiting for a bus to head back and start cooking; Shenlong got bored and started threatening to eat Uriko's chocolate bar to tease her while Long wishes they could both just sit calmly for five minutes.

This piece was done as a collab with my friend @umbranema who helped clean up my messy sketch and breathed life into the scene!

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury - Long the Tiger:

"Here's one of the most iconic characters in the game for me. My introduction to this franchise was through a demo disc that I owned, back in the day, and that cd had a demo version of Bloody Roar 2. There was only two available characters: Stun and Long. Long was and is my favorite of the two characters. He's quite strong and fast, and has one of my favorite movesets in the game. He may have a boring design, but I love to play as him."

ok now for regular long ramblings. i think long at his core is a guy who’s been so thoroughly traumatized he no longer wants anything to do with society. the only thing that draws him out of his pit of self-loathing seems to be a sense of duty. i don’t really like how, after helping uriko, he seems to regress back into a recluse, but after having thunk it over, i think it kind of goes in line w a trauma-shaped personality— recovery isn’t a straight line, he goes back and forth between wanting to be a normal guy with friends and students and wanting to sulk and brood

and i find it interesting how he contrasts with shen long! regular long started out with a normal life, and after having suffered, ended up with a tendency towards regression. shen long had a bad start, got fucked up, but then wanted to put his own life together. he’s sort of hedonistic and self-serving for a bit but then he puts together his own self-determined identity. they are the same person but they are also opposites
