I'm sure this has been said a million times already, but I just cannot get over people using the words "mommy" and "daddy" in an erotic context. It is just so viscerally and blatantly wrong and vile that it genuinely defies comprehension. These are the words that young children use to refer to their parents. They're what you (probably) called your parents as a kid, and if you're a parent they're (probably) the words your kids(s) use to refer to you. How can anyone use these words to mean "hot sexy fuckable older person who I want to dominate me sexually" without spontaneously combusting from the sheer intensity of their disgust?

What's the difference between this and calling an attractive younger person/sub "tiger" or "buddy" or "princess" or "sweetie pie" or "champ" or "cutie patootie"? I mean, that'd be the same thing, just in the opposite direction, right? Like how is it not immediately apparent to people that taking parent/child language and sexualizing it is still normalizing the ideas of incest and pedophilia, even if the words are only being used to refer to unrelated adults?

It genuinely scares me that this is something that's just normal now. It is genuinely scary that there are teenage girls calling men "daddy" in a sexual way, and that the word for hot dominant older man and the word for father are now the same word. Like it's difficult for me to even articulate myself and elaborate on this, because it's like trying to articulate and elaborate on why sexualizing anorexia is wrong or something, it is just so obviously and deeply fucked that words shouldn't even need to be said on the subject, and yet, apparently, to my horror, they do.

(an OC that I've been working on these days. It's a shapeshifter/doppelganger that is.... well lets just say that its dating life is a bit complicated. The caption is from Catharsis by AlicebanD, and more info about the story under the cut!)

Helian, he/him. Tailor-made to be well-liked and loved. His partner did not take the news of him being a shapeshifter well, to put it gently.

The closest the shapeshifter has to a "true form", though it doesn't really have one. Any form it takes is done on purpose. If asked to create a shape that represents its "baseline" best, this is what it would pick. But it doesn't enjoy being without identity. (It talks about itself in the third person, thats how little "self" it considers itself to have.)

Luna, she/her. The form she'll take throughout most of the story. She took the name, face and personality of a dead woman, at her husband's request...

Just watched a youtube video where a bubbly young woman discussed an indescribably fucked up hentai manga about a teenage girl getting forced into prostitution and raped by her father, and otherwise tortured and violated in ways I will not describe here, as though it was just some run of the mill piece of media, and treated it like it had some kind of profound literary value because sometimes real girls go through those kinds of experiences, while completely ignoring the fact that it was hentai created specifically for sick men to jerk off to and written by one such sick man. And most of the comments also failed to acknowledge the nature of this work, and were just things along the lines of, "yep, life sure can be unfortunate for some people that is true." I just. What is happening to these girls? Like I truly don't understand how you can get to a place mentally where all you have to say about something like this is that it's "dark" and the characters are "bad people" like girl what you read should be illegal it is literally underage torture porn with a plot that serves the sole function of providing context that makes the porn parts as depraved as possible, and you think it was an enjoyable read that had important things to say about the female experience?? The author was not trying to earnestly depict the horrors of girlhood in order to get people to contemplate the significance of such atrocities and compel them to do something to help prevent them, he was trying to get himself and men like him off to the rape and misery of a teenager! This is a level of pornbrained internalized misogyny combined with poor media literacy that I previously did not think possible. My heart weeps for this girl and for other young women like her who are so numb to this kind of visceral depravity that they don't even register it as anything other than a sad story.

Okay...okay, as important as I, personally, feel June is to the narrative, I can (begrudgingly) accept that she isn't in the movie.

But RAFAEL LUNA??? He's the reason they find out who leaked the emails! His relationship with Alex is vital to the story. Alex figuring out who he is is directly tied to the way he looks up to Luna.

(Apparently also cut Alex realizing he's bi?? But I digress.)

It is SO satisfying in the book when Luna, Nora, and Alex combined cracked the case at the end.

Luna was a role model for Alex, and I just feel like the plot will be missing something without him in the picture.

okay im definitely reading way too much into this but whatever.

during this scene when joel confesses to tommy all that he has been going through (god bless pedro and gabriel for their amazing acting), joel talks about his dreams. he says “i have dreams, every night… i just know that when i wake up, ive lost something”. and in episode one and six we can obviously see and hear from the muffled screaming when joel sleeps, that he doesnt sleep well. he has nightmares of sarah, and after meeting ellie, he most definitely now has nightmares about her too (like in episode six, in the cave where he immediately sits up and looks for her).

and now to my point. in his monologue here with tommy, he refers to these nightmares (yes, they are most definitely nightmares or maybe even worse), he still calls them “dreams”. i thought maybe that was a little weird because dreams are often thought to be good, positive thoughts and the term nightmare is used for the scary, negative night terrors that your mind conjures up to deal with trauma.

yet, joel calls them dreams.

why does he do this? maybe its a way to cope. he can’t possibly associate any more negative thoughts, words, actions, etc. with his daughter sarah. he already relives the horror of her death and his “failure” every night when he sleeps. calling them dreams instead of nightmares allows a smidgen of positivity. whether he does this consciously or not, im not sure. even though these nightmares are horrific for him to have to endure every night, its the only time he will be able to see sarah again. so maybe they are dreams. a good thing in one sense. its the only way he can see her again, even if she dies every. single. time. and every. single. night. sarah is his dream. she couldnt possibly be a nightmare. and now ellie is too. he cant think of sarah, or ellie for that matter, as nightmares. they’re his only dream.
