My largest painting project yet - literally!

The display scenery from The Battle for the Throne box for Marvel Crisis Protocol (gifted to me early by the manufacturers).

I've never painted scenery before so this was an exercise in efficiency of scale - I can't use up all of my expensive miniature paint!

I started with a rattlecan base spray - purple and red-brown, with a narrow spray of teal for the lower half and a white zenithal dusting to finish.

It really informed how I built the colours back in - I had initially pictured something fully black and blue like the cave of wonders in Disney's Aladdin, but the progression from dark blue to purple to brown felt surprisingly easy to wrangle and strangely believable?!

And so the X-Men have started progress. I built them all last night. There's just a handful of models.

And then today I knocked out four of them. Cyclops, Storm, Beast, and Wolverine are all done.

Not sure who to do next...

Got hired to paint the X-Men for same lad I did the monstrous Brotherhood of evil Mutants for. Commissioner just wanted them in black and white costumes but when I pointed they could be used on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants too and suggested doing Rogue and Gambit as vampires, commissioner got rather excited at that. After however long of painting warhammer minis in flat colours and washes its kinda been fun to do some brighter stuff... it said, talking about a bunch of people in black and white costumes.

I've been very fortunate to have been sent the new Black Panther scenery pieces for Marvel Crisis Protocol from Atomic Mass Games and although I've never painted scenery before it was fun to take this one on!

It's maybe a touch too purple to be 'obsidian' but I really like how it turned out!
