A Girl Gambles Life Away

Even with all her schemes as impromptu as they were fashioned in the precarious moments of her week of hell and light, her ultimate destiny could not be averted. She didn't even have time to fully grieve or appreciate the circumstances that brought her here to this chair. No doubt if the poison was not still muddling her mind, these last few minutes would have been spent panicking in the way that Jefferson desired. As it stood, it felt like a part of her was watching from somewhere above the room in silent condemnation while the larger part of her only watched in mute despair the needle approach and position itself to pierce her neck. When she felt the tip break the skin, she closed her eyes, her fists taut against the tape. The needle was removed, and she let her head slump forward, not wanting to witness another second of Jefferson's smug face. Denial merged with indifference, engulfing her mind, as her body gradually drifted into a coma and then death.

When she opened her eyes, she was deluged with rays of orange light of the late afternoon through large contemporary windows. The classroom in which she sat, filled with no more than ten students at a time, was reminiscent of her time spent in grade school. Oh how the past appealed when the present was so perfect, with the knowledge the future was only going to be worse! Worse futures, because slowly her fate came into remembrance, and she pressed the flat of her palm against the surface of her desk. She…died. At least she thought she did, unless the last few days were only a dream, a compressed fantasy during a nap that went unnoticed. Hesitantly she raised her hand, and when the world slowed down and then stopped, she understood that none of this could be a dream. Instead, her situation was more complicated than she ever imagined. The lesson resumed and Max was very practised in this day's events to react accordingly.

So I saw your one post and so like here's a theory I have jejdjssn

Max gets her powers from Rachel. The blue butterfly is Rachel's spirit watching over Chloe and knowing something will happen to her, so she goes to Max. She somehow gives Max the powers to save Chloe and together they uncover the mystery of Arcadia Bay being guided by no other than Rachel's spirit. As Max uses her powers Rachel grows stronger in a sense, she wants to get revenge to all that hurt her and Chloe. She breaks through the veil separating her spirit from the living world (so to speak) and causes the storm. It's why if you choose to kill Chloe Max doesn't get the powers and all hell doesn't break lose. Rachel is with Chloe and her spirit is at peace.

I hope that kinda makes sense, I've been sitting on that theory for awhile hfjdnddn

That’s an interesting theory, but one thing I don’t see is Rachel being the blue butterfly... I know they say the deer is Max’s spirit animal and supposedly related only to her but to me it still makes sense that it’s Rachel's spirit guiding Max. The storm being Rachel is a really interesting thing, and they do bring up the possibility in the game though. But at the same time I feel like the storm being the consequence of Max’s powers is what makes the most sense... Though I guess you tied these two together so it works! I don’t like the idea that Rachel would want Chloe dead... I guess in a way it makes sense, especially considering the play in BTS where she makes Chloe choose her over liberty. But it’s still a bit awful? I prefer if she’s either just causing the storm with pure rage for what happened to her or just guiding them to find the truth or somehow both. If we’re really talking about serious interpretaiton of the canon I honestly try not to think too hard about it cause I feel like even the writers don’t really know everything, that’s why they left it all vague. But I like theories like yours for fanfics that explore them.
