okay, hiiii! so ahem, I’m not too sure if you’ve watched elvis’ “stay away, joe,” and if you haven’t you really should. although it’s kinda…iffy, he’s so damn fine in there 😮‍💨🫠
I’m really curious about one of his ladies in the film! Quentin Dean, do you know anything or any info as in if they’ve had a bond, or any outtakes?
She randomly popped into my head after watching the wh0rehouse scene in the ‘68 comeback, bc susan henning lowk looked like her in it?!?! lol I think it’s the bangs or sumthin’
But please and thank you, I gotta know!
Hi, Lexy! I'm so, so sorry for taking so long to answer your question, dear. Thank you for reaching me out for information on Elvis' movies, I feel honored you'd think of me for this, really. If there's something I love to talk about, concerning Elvis' career, this is it, his movies — even if it's not always I am lucky finding satisfying info on them, like in this case. 😣
Tumblr media
I've spent a long, long while trying to find anything about Quentin Dean and her relationship with Elvis during making of Stay Away Joe (that's why I took so long so answer you) - from Youtube videos to movie magazines articles, but unfortunately I still haven't.
Strangely, Quentin Dean retired pretty quick from Hollywood, after only 4 movies done and very few one-episode appearances in some Western TV shows.
Her acting career (TV and movies) lasted from 1967 to 1969, two years, and it's just bizarre since she was nominated for a Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress due to her first role on the big screen on the Oscar winner movie (Best Picture) 'In the Heat of the Night' (1967). This movie was released the same year Quentin filmed Stay Away Joe with Elvis (filmed from October 9 to November 27, 1967, released on March 8, 1968).
Tumblr media
Quentin Dean prepared for her screen test for the Academy Award Winner movie In The Heat of the Night (1967).
Curiously enough, other than the movies, one of the few TV shows Quentin worked on was The Virginian, created by - guess who! - Charles Marquis Warren, director/producer/screenwriter of Charro! (1969 *updated for minor correction on date -- 'Charro!' was filmed during July and August of 1968 and released in 1969*). Quentin appeared in only one episode of that show, but even so, why would she give up her acting career so fast? She surely had good network in Hollywood... that's just weird. What's worse is that it seems she rarely gave interviews during her acting career and/or denied interviews after retiring from Hollywood, which would explain why her interviews are so hard to find.
Tumblr media
1968. Quentin Dean as Saranora on The Virginian (TV Series, 1962–1971) S7. E1 "The Saddle Warmer".
I really tried to find any interview with her, and there must be some, but with a career as short-lived as hers the journalists' interest for details on her acting career is not that big, therefore there aren't modern articles online (that I have put my eyes on) and the existing vintage 60s printed ones weren't scanned and shared online so far, I suppose. 😣 What a shame!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am confident (or just hopeful) there must be some kind of information concerning her work relationship with EP in books specifically dealing with Stay Away Joe making of, such as "Elvis: Behind The Scenes Speedway & Stay Away Joe" by Erik Lorentzen. I haven't read this book yet, unfortunately. I'm so sorry for not being helpful for now, dear. I tried. I wish I knew something. :( If any friend reading this have already read this book and know something helpful, please, feel free to share what you know with our community. ♥
Well, since we're talking about it already, if you ask me I'd say Elvis and Quentin had a pretty good professional relationship but not as close as Elvis and some of his other leading ladies had. This is pure speculation on my part, but I have a reason to think so. This if one of the movies Elvis did (this one and 'Kissin' Cousins', maybe a few others too, not sure) that Priscilla -- as well as some of the wives from the Memphis Mafia guys -- was right there watching Elvis work in the filming set. I'm not implying Elvis would have had any intimate relationship with Quentin if Priscilla hadn't been there on the filming set or anything but, speaking on friendship matters, it makes sense Elvis would have spent more of his time on set, during breaks from filming, with his gang than with the other actors. Not sure but if so, Quentin wouldn't have many opportunities to get better acquaintance of him, I guess she wouldn't have much to say about him as a person because of this.
What I can say is: below is a "behind the scenes" picture [on the right], not a publicity shot for what I've read. Judging from their faces, Elvis and Quentin had fun working together. ✨ I know, I know... this is not specific but this is what I can share for now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm gonna keep trying to find some information about Quentin's career, and hopefully on her accounts over working in Stay Away Joe. I really wish I could understand why her acting career was so short and what she has done afterwards in her life, so maybe in interviews she shared something about it.
For now, I'm humbly gonna share some of the pictures of Stay Away Joe. And, yes, I've watched it! I've watched all of Elvis' movies.
Stay Away Joe didn't catch my heart at first but little by little it grew on me. Now it is one of my favorite Elvis movies, even tho I still think it's an extremely noisy and a little messy-looking movie too. LOL. Even so it's a good movie... here and there I re-watch it. ♥

Sam Claflin + well developed female characters
I once posted a list of Sam's female-directed films [x], but as @jesstasticvoyage points out, it's also true that a lot of stuff he stars in features well developed female characters (I'm kinda tired of the "strong female character" phrase, so using this one instead). So, let's have a look at them.
The Hunger Games series (dir Francis Lawrence) - still the most obvious example for Sam as a role he's known for, and the purpose of this post. It's safe to say most people know Katniss Everdeen.
Their Finest (dir Lone Scherfig) - Gemma Arterton's character, Catrin, is an aspiring screenwriter hired to work on a script for a film about Dunkirk evacuation--this is a movie about a movie set during WW2. Sam is a fellow writer, in fact he is the one who discovered her. It's funny bc this takes place in 1940s and she gets the job of writing female characters, when even in our times we don't always have that. Worth noting is also Rachael Stirling's Phyl, a minor character but memorable and a lesbian--who doesn't die at the end. It's the straight relationship that gets treated like bury your gays trope this time!
The Nightingale (dir Jennifer Kent) - also known as the film in which Sam plays an absolute monster (you think Billy Dunne is bad, lol). The film centres on young convict Claire (Aisling Franciosi) seeking revenge for the indescribable harm done to her family. Basically, trigger warning for everything.
My Cousin Rachel (dir Roger Michell) - adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel. Sam plays Philip, the narrator, but Rachel is so intriguing, the whole story is named for her. She's played by her namesake, Rachel Weisz. There's also Louise (Holliday Granger), Philip's childhood friend. She's the relatable, girl next door type, but she is smart, in fact I think she is the one with the most braincells. (Also I have a theory about her, I think this version of Louise has a darker side!)
Enola Holmes (dir Harry Bradbeer) - title speaks for itself. Enola's mother is missing and the teenage heroine goes on a quest to find her and thus becomes a detective herself. Sam plays Mycroft, the eldest Holmes sibling, though he's far removed from the original Mycroft Holmes of Arthur Conan Doyle's books. Edith, who runs a teashop, is another notable female character.
Adrift (dir Baltasar Kormakur) - based on a true story of Tami Oldham, an amateur sailor, surviving 41 days adrift on the Pacific Ocean after a hurricane. Sam plays her bf Richard. Shailene Woodley has the role of Tami and is also the film's producer.
Riot Club (dir Lone Scherfig) - okay so what's this doing here, you ask, it's a film about an all-male elite club at Oxford. Yes but that's exactly the point, bc even though it is about an all male club, the female characters are surprisingly well developed. The play this is adapted from, Posh, was written by Laura Wade and the director is also a woman, so maybe it's not so surprising. We have Holliday Granger who plays the gf of one of the boys and Jessica Brown Findlay in the role of the pub landlord's daughter. Holliday's character certainly doesn't take any shit from the posh boys. Even Natalie Dormer in the role of a sex worker has enough self-respect to refuse their deranged requests, despite the amount of money it would earn her. Hence I include it on the list.
Charlie's Angels (dir Elizabeth Banks) - title speaking for itself, yet again. Sam's role is relatively minor.
Book of Love (dir Analeine Cal y Mayor) - a romcom. When Maria, played by Veronica Echegui, translates Henry's (Sam) unsuccessful book from English to Spanish, the book becomes a huge hit in Mexico. Turns out that while translating, she inserted some seriously hot steamy scenes. Sam travels to Mexico for promotion and the two of them now have to work together on the next book. So without Maria, the story would not exist and also, once Henry accepts the situation, he is happy to collaborate with her--and at the end, supports her in her own writing efforts. (If you can get round the premise, it is an enjoyable film.)
Daisy Jones and the Six - mini series based on a book of the same name. We have not one, not two, not three, but four amazing ladies to root for: Daisy, Camila, Karen and Simone. While Sam gives performance of a lifetime as the band's frontman Billy Dunne.
Other Notes:
Honourable mentions are Snow White (Kristen Stewart) in Snow White and the Huntsman, a film I have a definite soft spot for though there's many ways it could have been better. In The Corrupted Sam plays a convict who just got out of prison and reunites with his gf and son. The gf is played by Naomi Ackie. She's wary at first but does allow him back into her life and they get back together and raise their son. Unsure if another one of my faves, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides apply. Sam's romance with the mermaid Syrena is my absolute favourite of his. She might seem helpless for majority of her screentime, bc she gets captured, turns human on dry land and is unable to walk as she's not used to having legs, Philip (Sam's character) has to carry her. But she was the one who saved him first. And POTC overall is not without good female characters.

Dear Lara Jean,
HI. so i watched TATBILB: A&F a few weeks ago, and I have some words. Before I begin, i'd like to preface that i'm literally 17 and have no film experience, and that I've read this book once maybe 4 years ago but here it is.
ps. if you haven't gotten it already: there will be spoilers. Heavy spoilers.
first of all, i'm sorry but i really didn't like the little edit things. Maybe I've reached that point in my life where I don't f with that anymore. Like when theres a drawn house and it slowly fades so it's real life?? no thanks
the music choice... I honestly didn't have that big of a problem with it, but my korean friend kept going "wtf is this music choice" so i'm quoting her on that.
the filming and editing. well maybe it's just me but I didn't really like it. yk when you're watching a youtuber and they do those zoom in things and it's sort of fast and funny? I think there were a few times the movie did that and i didn't like it.
literally, lara jean looking directly into the camera?? it feels like it's breaking the 4th wall and maybe they're doing it to be edgy but no thanks i didn't like that either.
WHY???? Her breaking the 4th wall added NOTHING to the movie. It just took me out of the experience. I especially didn’t like it when they did it in PS I still love you when they temporarily broke up.
THEY SET THE MOVIE IN OREGON. WHAT WAS THE REASON. THE BOOK WAS SET IN VA, AND I LIVE IN VA SO I FELT A CONNECTION TO THE BOOK. AND THEN THEY GO AND SET IT IN OREGON. WHAT. WAS. THE. REASON
OREGON DIDN’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE COLLEGES. THEY’RE STILL PRETTY FAR AWAY FROM STANFORD. IN THE BOOK, UVA WAS CLOSE BY SO LJ WOULDN’T HAVE TO BE TOO FAR AWAY FROM HOME. NO OFFENSE TO THE STATE BUT WHY OREGON. THEY COULD OF PUT THEM IN CALI AT LEAST
ONE OF THE REASONS WHY LJ WANTED TO GO TO UVA IS BECAUSE HER FAMILY WOULD BE CLOSE BY. BY PUTTING THEM IN OREGON, YOU TAKE AWAY THAT REASON. i just want to 👊 whoever’s idea this was
FURTHERMORE: THEY CHANGED UVA AND UNC TO STANFORD AND NYU. I AM INFURIATED. THE WHOLE POINT WAS THAT THEY WANTED TO GO TO UVA BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE 10 MINS FROM WHERE THEY LIVED AND IT'S A STATE SCHOOL. LARA JEAN FELT LIKE THE WAS GAURANTEED TO GO TO UVA AND WHEN SHE DOESNT, IT ACTUALLY HURTS THE READERS.
in the book, LJ was waitlisted from UNC, rejected from UVA, and accepted to W&M. I’m sure you can find like 40 people at our school who can relate to this situation. I doubt 40 people in our school can relate to being rejected from Stanford BUT accepted to NYU. dear writers, please give teens across the nation (your target audience) realistic expectations for college admissions.
YOU'RE GONNA TELL ME THAT PETER AND LARA JEAN WERE ACTUALLY QUALFIED ENOUGH FOR STANFORD. LEMME JUST SAY, I'VE APPLIED FOR COLLEGES THIS YEAR AND I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD GRASP ON WHAT IT TAKES TO GET INTO CERTAIN COLLEGES. YOU'RE TELLING ME THE TWO OF THEM. REALLY. GOT. INTO. THOSE. SCHOOLS. pls.
DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE KISSING BOOTH. ELLE AND NOAH ARE POSSIBLY THE DUMBEST CHARACTERS I HAVE EVER WATCHED. I DON’T SEE THEM DO A PAGE OF HOMEWORK AND I DON’T EVEN THINK THEY ATTEND CLASS. LIKE MAKING A KISSING BOOTH FOR ONE FUNDRAISER FOR A CLUB THAT CONSISTS OF 2 PEOPLE DOES NOT COUNT AS ENOUGH TO GET INTO HARVARD. but that’s a different movie...
this is literally the idea that television and movies have in making it super easy to get into ivy leauges. as if some in state college isn't up to society's standards of where or where not it's ok to go to college. it's when gabriella montez goes to stanford, troy goes to berkely, ryan evan goes to julliard, teddy duncan goes to yale, cody martin is accepted to princeton, HANNAH MONTANA does to stanford.
and lara jean wants to study english lit. she never says “i want to go to stanford because of their great english lit program”. it’s only “i want to go to stanford because my boyfriend is going and i have no other life outside of him
fine. make your characters seem awesome by making them go to awesome colleges. but still. this is upseting.
you know how awesome it is to hear UVA, the college I've always wanted to go to, in a published book? and for them to just rip it away- espeically when UVA is so attainable?? Yea yea movie directors, i get it, UVA isn't good enough for you. whatever.
They had AT LEAST 5 MONTAGES. 5. FIVE. WHO NEEDS THAT MANY MONTAGES. To quote my friend "the movie is all montage and 30 mins of plot" AND I CAN'T FIND IT IN MYSELF TO DISAGREE WITH HER.
AND THE DANCES. I REALLY DIDN’T NEED TO SEE NOAH CENTINEO DO WHATEVER HE CALLS “DANCING” IN 2 MONTAGES. I know everyone fell in love with noah in the first movie, but i’m pretty sure everyone fell out of love with him in this one.
again, i know nothing about movies, but 5 montages?? it seems like you're just filling space and trying to make everything seem ✨awesome✨ and ✨amazing✨. SURE. everything might be awesome and amazing, but this movie was 1 HR AND 55 MINS. and you decided to add 1 HR of montages? WHy. AND. one of them was in slowmo. i can't
THEY HAD VOICE OVERS THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE. sure. 1 at the begin and 1 at the end, I think that's cute. BUT THE WHOLE MOVIE?? WHY. like bruh- have a focus.
literally did anyone read the freaking book? Remember how- in the book right? Margot was actually really not ok with Trina bc she's sort of replacing their mom? and Margot is rlly not ok with it but gets over it?? see how that was summarized in like 5 seconds in the movie? Oh i'm sorry you used all your time for the movie making STUPID MONTAGES but can we get some actually emotionally beats next time?? thanks.
ok this is a big problem i have with the movie. in the 3rd book, peter tries to have a relationship with his dad who ran away from him years ago. He struggles with that relationship the whole book. This is good stuff. people can relate to this. the scene in the diner where peter “confronts” his dad was CRINGEY. It could be noah’s acting but i couldn’t take him seriously. AND HE FORGIVES HIS DAD AFTER 30 SECONDS. the movie tries to include these smaller storylines but can’t because of the time limit. i’m no screenwriter, but i’m sure there could have been a way to subtly move that plot line during the entire movie rather than that one conversation in the diner
and in the book, peter has to train for lacrosse so he has to eat healthy which stresses him out. i specifically remember him getting mad at someone (maybe it was john ambrose, i don’t remember fully) for EATING HIS CARROTS. this just shows that peter has a life too. he has to worry about lacrosse along with losing lj. but no, the movie makes him look like the perfect boyfriend who has no other worries in life except for the girl in front of him
remember how- in the book (right?? bc they had a book to go off of???) Stormy was a part of the 3rd book? like a BIG part?? They LITEALLY just used her as John Ambrose's grandmother (WHICH IM PRETTY SURE THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO IN THE MOVIES). literally, stormy and john ambrose were throw away characters in the second movie and i am infurriated. BUT ALSO I LOVE JOHN AMBROSE HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO HIM??
and remember, how in the book, how the dog's name is "Jamie Fox-Pickle" and they changed it to HENRY??? where is the flavor. what was the reason. SERIOUSLY.
BUT ALSO. CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG BUT THERE WAS A POINT IN THE PLOT WHERE PETER'S MOM TOLD LARA JEAN TO BREAK UP WITH PETER. DOES NO ONE ELSE REMEBER THAT?? AND THEY CUT IT ALL OUT OF THE SCRIPT?? LIKE WHY. WHAT WAS THE REASON.
ok those are my biggest book grievances I think. but lemme just say, they NEVER went to NEW YORK. They literally wrote that in for the purposes of NYU. in the book, Chris and Lara Jean DRIVE to UNC because that's ATTAINABLE. BC THEY'RE STATE UNIVERSITIES. ANYWAYS
LJ’s and Chris’s spontaneous trip to unc showed their friendship in a good way. I never really liked chris as a friend to lj but during the trip, they are besties and it shows. the movie tries to do that in ny but peter is also in ny for some reason. she should have fell in love with ny WITHOUT peter at her side nagging her to sneak out and go on a date. she should have spent more time with chris rather than thinking about peter while she was watching the band.
the scene where Lara Jean is in New York and at the party and she sees the band? To all the boys I've loved before: Always and forever?? more like To all the boys I've loved before: gay awakening time.
when they moved the pink couch to the subway? WHy? They wanted snazzy pics.
when Lara Jean and Peter were making up and it was a really cute sequence AND THEN THEY MADE HER LOSE HER V CARD. FINE. I GET HOW THAT'S REALISTIC BUT IT WAS A CUTE SCENE. MY FRIEND ALMOST STARTED CRYING AND THEN LJ LOST HER V CARD AND WE COULDN'T STOP SCREAMING.
this is different from what was in the book (for the 100th time). In the book, they don’t do it and it shows that you can be in a high school relationship without being physical. I strongly appreciate that message. This darn movie had to have her lose her v card. WHY. IT ADDED NOTHING TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP. THE YEARBOOK SIGNING WAS SYMBOLIC ENOUGH
the montage where it's a montage of all of lara jean's and peter's cute moments?? ok fine. that was cute. but they literally just took scenes from past movies. imagine the impact if we like hidden moments from their relationships. maybe they're laughing in the car together. maybe they're watching they sunset. maybe peter is looking at her lovingly while she sleeps. WHAT IF. it WASN'T a montage of all the "bigger" moments of their relationship, and we got to see them just exist.
UGH. THE VOICE OVER AT THE END OF THE MOVIE IS SO CRINGEY I CAN'T
"WE AREN'T LIKE OTHER COUPLES. NOT US, LARA JEAN AND PETER KAVINSKY. BECAUSE WE HAVE SOMETHING BETWEEN US. WRITING LOVE LETTERS" please. b freaking s
Some redeemable qualities
while i didn't like most of the songs, "like me better" by lauv will always be loved. especially since it's a call back from the first movie?? I can ftw
WHY WASN’T “LIKE ME BETTER” THEIR SONG???? I really thought it was a good song to be their song and they referenced it in the beginning. No offense to the “beginning middle and end” people, but i felt no attachment to that song.
they customized her phone. it looked like it was a 7 (idk rlly, i don't know crap abt iphones) but they customized it. Granted, I KNOW lara jean would be the one with the aesthetic background with color coded folder, but still- they did give her relevant apps. some to note include; tiktok, spotify, instagram, netflix, notes, messages, facetime, maps, whatsapp and the STANFORD APP?? whatever- i'm chill.
they did make lara jean make choices so that was good.
the prom ask?? That was cute. with the pancakes??
at the end when Peter played the song even though earlier he didn't like it?? I liked that. i liked that a lot. ok fine i more than liked that a lot. There are multiple texts where my friends are screaming at each other. In fact, 26 separate messages.
chris in general. granted, she was more present in the books, but i'll take what i can get.
some notable quotes by her, the queen
"I'm dead inside"
not wanting to do a gigantic walk down from the stairs and asking the boys not to turn around
peter said he liked lara jean's forehead kisses and that reminded me of emma chamberlain so that's a positive only bc of emma
I remembered that they were the class of 2021, and I'M class of 2021 and it just hit for a second.
my friend cried over their graduation but i felt nothing bc we're literally living in a pandemic and chances of me getting a real graduation?? we'll see
again, these are all just my opinion. my friend doesn't like the movie bc she says she's sad and bitter and seeing these cute couples makes her feel lonely but i'm just diappointed. the books were GOOD. they were gold.
there was so much they could’ve done with the movies, and i just feel like they didn’t deliver on anything. Jenny Han, i’m sorry. The movie overall, ik someone who cried about it and someone else who gave it 7/10. props for them but jeez i just wish for more.
ok but that’s the show folk. i mean, obviously everything i said was opinion and literally don’t listen to anything i’ve said. BUT. feel free to add what you hated or loved abt the movie too. thanks. i love you guys. “always and forever” :,)
p.s- omg not them ripping off taylor swift. jk jk. ok bye

Music Shuffle Tag~ 🎶
TASK: It’s easy, all you have to do is put your music library on shuffle and list the first ten songs. Feel free to add in some personal liner notes if you’re inclined!
First off, thanks a lot for the tag, @lin-ful ! <3
Secondly, I’m kind of stuck because I listen to two playlists on repeat, both have a large number of songs and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to compile them... or maybe I’m just too lazy to google it. So what we’re gonna do is make two versions of it, and lmao that’ll just give you more fun stuff to binge listen to if you wish~
List 1: K-pop
This playlist is basically my K-pop music. Some honorable mentions that couldn’t make the list: Oh My God (G-IDLE), Monster (Irene x Seulgi), Way Back Home (SHAUN), Chica (Chung Ha).
1. Heel - NO:EL, Loco
I recently added this to my playlist bc @some-ikemen-snob recommended it and her recommendations are the shit 😎 . And this song IS the shit. So, yeah.
2. Say My Name - ATEEZ
I remember hearing this song while randomly scrolling through youtube, and I recall when I saw it pop up for the nth time in my recommendations I was baffled at the hype it had, and then I finally heard it and bam now it’s in my playlist.😅
3. Touch - NCT 127
This song is so cute, and the choreography too! I’m absolutely obsessed with the choreography at the “Na na nananana” part, it’s addicting to watch.
4. Beautiful Goodbye - Chen
Chen’s voice, I mean do I even need to say anything more?
5. Playboy - EXO
This song does things to me. I mean, the way Kai whispers “Play... boy” or rather half moans half groans should be declared illegal. 😉
6. Dinner - Suho, Jane Jang
I love the music and how well both their voices blend in with it. It’s one of my favourites, for sure. ❤️
7. HIP - MAMAMOO
This was the first ever song of MAMAMOO’s I ever heard, and dare I say I fell for Hwa sa after that. I mean have you seen that woman? And the rest too, of course. Such badasses.
8. My Love - Baekhyun
I love his voice so, so much ❤️ ! This song is so calming, so peaceful. It’s the kind of music I would play when I’m stressed, when I’m out, when it’s raining and basically the point is why would you stop playing this?
9. Stay With Me - Chanyeol, Punch
I needn’t explain my obsession love for this song, need I? This song is loved by almost everyone I know who watches K-dramas (even if they don’t listen to Kpop), and that’s because it is indeed such a great song! If you haven’t heard it yet, do give it a try~ 💕
10. 무제(無題) (Untitled, 2014) - G-DRAGON
If you dislike this song, we’re gonna have problems. It’s a masterpiece, one of G-dragon’s most amazing works 💙 . It’s... yeah, I have no words to describe how beautiful this song is.
Tumblr media
List 2: Bollywood Classics
Grab a cup of tea, sit down and plug in your earphones. Close your eyes and just let the music take over you, because this is gonna be good.🤭
Honorable Mentions [DO CHECK THEM OUT IF YOU LIKE THE SONGS IN THE PLAYLIST]: Aa Chal Ke Tujhe (Kishore Kumar), Mein Shayar Toh Nahi (Shailendra Singh), Babuji Dheere Chalna (Geeta Dutt), Abhi Na Jao Chod Kar (Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi), Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (Amit Kumar), Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein (Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh).
1. Lag Ja Gale Se Phir - Lata Mangeshkar
This song is one of the most popular ones when it comes to classics, and I don’t doubt it because Lata Mangeshkar’s voice is so, so, so sweet and so perfect damn 💜 . Also it’s from a black and white movie and it’s still pretty popular so I hope that speaks for itself? lmao
2. Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandni Men - Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Day
Can you tell Lata Mangeshkar was a popular singer of those times? Her voice is so amazing I swear. And this song’s lyrics and tune is so catchy. Again, it’s from a black and white movie.  🤭
3. Aap Ki Ankhon Mein Kuch - Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar
Kishore Kumar is SUCH A CLASSIC. He’s a legend, and if my playlist hadn’t brought up one of his songs I’d have sued Spotify. That said, Kishore Kumar was and Indian playback singer, actor, music director, lyricist, writer, director, producer and screenwriter. Need I say more about this man? Also, this song’s lyrics are so respectful and deep, I love those times.
4. Chala Jata Hoon - Kishore Kumar
Kishore Kumar with his voice, and Rakesh Khanna with his acting for such a powerful duo. You’ll find many more of his songs in this list, most probably. My mom introduced me to Kishore Kumar’s music (She’s a hardcore fan btw) and I haven’t looked back since. Proudly so. <3
5. Tera Mujhse Hai Pehle Ka Naata Koi - Kishore Kumar, Sushma Shrestha
Sharmila Tagore was a beauty, no doubt. And this song has two versions. I’ll link the other one here. Can you tell I’m basically speechless and have no idea how to form sentences with have a flow?
6. Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho - Jagjit Singh
The main lyric basically translates to “Why are you smiling so much? What’s is this pain that you’re hiding? You’re smiling so much.” and if that isn’t meaningful, I don’t know what is. Moreover, Jagjit Singh’s voice is so soothing to the ears, I could listen to this song every day and never get tired of it.  🥰
7. Yeh Sham Mastani - Kishore Kumar
Can you guess who the actor is? Damn straight, it’s Rajesh Khanna. I need help 😅 I love Kishore Kumar’s voice so much hELp.
8. Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se - Kishore Kumar
Yes, it’s Rajesh Khanna who’s the actor, yet again. Moreover, this song is so beautiful, so awesome, so pretty, so everything I LOVE IT SO MUCH GAH.
9. Pyar Hame Kis Mod Pe - Kishore Kumar, R. D. Burman, Bhupinder Singh, Sapan Chakraborty, Gulshan Bawra
I kid you not my heart did a little flip when I checked out the youtube video to add the link and saw Amitabh Bachhan 🤭 😂 . Amitabh Bachhan now looks sophisticated and classy, but the Amitabh in his younger days looked so freaking handsome I’m deceased, and I need help. Oh sweet lords, and this song. This song is everything, such deep voices, the lyrics, the beats, this song is EVERYTHING and if you hate this we’re gonna have problems. Also Amitabh Bachhan OH MY GOD HE LOOKS SO NICE
10. Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli - Manna Day
Spotify did me good, not gonna lie. It literally saved the best for the last. ❤️ This song is one of my absolute, ultimate, top favourites and that’s because Manna Day’s voice does justice to everything, Rajesh Khanna, the lyrics, the song, us, everything. It’s so pleasing and a complete joy to listen to.

you know what the ke fandom needs more of? more AU fic. like gimme some chaotic college au or coffee shop au or neighbors au
U are so right. Honestly hit me with ur suggestions.
I didn’t want to leave you waiting until any suggestions came in or my brain started working so here’s my totally lame, unsolicited and rushed dot-point take on a Villaneve in the film industry:
- Villanelle is a notoriously bratty but EXTREMELY talented actress
- like she’s a total costume thief and honestly kind of difficult to handle on set if Konstantin (her manager) isn’t around
- but she’s also a one-take wonder when she wants to be, she can just turn on the character, bam, nail it, then go back to the Kraft table and hoard doughnuts
- she starts out doing short films and indies and then swans right into big pictures in that way that almost NOBODY does, but she does
- it’s never occurred to Villanelle that everything wouldn’t fall into place for her, and it’s almost like through sheer force of confidence that it actually does.. people just don’t question her because she’s so obviously got It
- she’s all over the place, doing the most eclectic projects, bouncing from superhero flicks to deep dramas
- she’s a magazine darling bc she has the wildest fashion sense, but in interviews she’s chatty and conspiratorial and funny in this way that means you don’t really notice she hasn’t actually told you anything real about her until much later
- anyway Villanelle wraps the last block for her latest movie and then she’s herded off to London to do a music video with Sebastian, who she’s really not that fond of (she doesnt even listen to his songs)
- but Konstantin’s management group also reps him so she’s bribed into it
- Eve is a director (and aspiring screenwriter), and she’s good, she’s really fucking good, but she’s mostly stuck doing music videos that she’s not all that interested in because her boss Frank won’t cut her a break
- he always promises that “after this next one” he’ll send her through to one of his television buddies, but he never does
- “oh Eve, you’re too good here, just let it go”
- in her spare time, Eve’s writing a TV series, and it’s Ready, and having something she’s happy with and passionate about just makes the sets she’s on seem even more stagnant
- Kenny, an AD she’s had on a couple of projects (who is Very Supportive of her show idea), is the son of Carolyn Martens, who is like THE head of creative development at a huge production company
- and he manages to accidentally-on-purpose get them to run into each other so Eve has a few minutes to pitch
- and Carolyn tells Eve she likes her idea, but it’s kind of off-beat, really fresh in that shiny-new way that makes dusty dinosaur investors uncertain about profit margins
- like maybe it’s Too New, too much of a gamble
- but she says if Eve can find a way to make it more of a sure thing then she is IN
- so then Eve is directing the music video of this (honestly kinda basic) dude singer and this famous actress chick is gonna be in it
- Hugo their sound guy is Hype to meet her
- but Elena is like “yeah I’ve heard she’s a Problem” so Eve is all okay, Here We Go
- and then she sees Villanelle and there’s this whole stretched moment of just seeing her
- and then she remembers hey she saw this woman once in an arthouse film and she was incredible
- and obv That’s why her heart is doing That
- Eve just admires talent when she sees it, okay??
- and Villanelle as always goes from zero to a hundred
- like she can barely be bothered to be there but then she sees Eve and it’s Wow I Can’t Believe Music Videos Are My Actual Passion
- and yes Villanelle’s beyond into it but she’s also an ass, and like, what’s she going to do, NOT try to drive Eve up the wall? As if
- she Has to know what Eve looks like flustered
- has to know if Villanelle can fluster her into dragging her into some props closet and tearing her clothes off
- so from Eve’s side
- Elena’s sources from wardrobe departments across the country were not kidding
- Villanelle is a total nightmare
- but also not
- like every time Eve tells her to do or try something she always pushes back, has to ask fifty But Why questions
- it’s impossible to stay frustrated with her though bc once she’s on board she absolutely brings it, will keep going until she’s got it perfect
- and then once Eve can see she’s got that to work with she starts trying to really push too, to see what she can get out of her
- but… It’s a music video, not an Academy contender, so they get caught up in this “well how about this” back and forth until Kenny’s like… Uh Eve remember we only have like five days to shoot this whole thing
- Elena thinks it’s funny because there’s going to be a HUGE disparity between Sebastian’s fumbling help-I’m-just-here-to-sing acting and Villanelle’s totally committed nuanced performance
- then suddenly they’re done, and it’s been this total blur and Eve is kind of on a high from it because it’s the closest she’s come in so long to being able to make something she’s actually engaged with, that means something
- and she’s not willing to trudge back to Basic Town so she bites the bullet and just goes for it, like Fuck Frank
- and yeah Sebastian is … A little ordinary… But he’s commercially successful and has a pull with the 18-35s, so Eve approaches him after they’ve wrapped
- she pitches him being the featured artist on the soundtrack of her TV show
- he gets exposure, she gets his brand
- it’s not ideal – his isn’t the image that’d be her first choice to tie with her series, it’s not really the same vibe – but she’s not going to wait for Carolyn to forget about her
- and Sebastian says he’d like to help her, but he’d have to check with his managers, and what about his tour schedule, and does she need original music, and um –
- and then Villanelle’s all “oh I couldn’t help but overhear… You know, Eve, I’m looking to get into TV”
- Eve goes, “you are?”
- well she is nOW
- nevermind she’s turned down a dozen offers over the last few years to focus on her film career
- but her film career is going great
- and none of it is as FUN as winding Eve up this last week has been, and this was only a shitty music video
- a TV shoot would be a few months, would give them both so much more time and space to see what’s the best (and worst) they can really bring out in each other
- and Eve’s a bit lost
- because Villanelle is the It Girl du jour
- and Eve’s show hasn’t even been officially optioned but here’s all the free publicity she could want
- and she never bothered to consider it before but actually, Villanelle would be completely perfect for the lead
- perfect
- and now Eve’s thought about it it’s all coming together and she doesn’t want to let go of it again
- (and working with Villanelle some more wouldn’t suck, honestly, not completely)
- (might actually be – well)
- “are you for real?”
- “so for real,” and Villanelle’s drawling, eyebrow raised, almost smirking, but Eve can tell she’s serious
- oh this is so far above and beyond what Carolyn needed
- and that’s the start of it all

parasite, get out, scream, paranorman, slc punk
eeeeee! thank you for sending these! 🌸
Parasite (2019)
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece!!!!
all of those awards that it won? WELL DESERVED. the film itself blew me away. it was structured perfectly with the story, the camerawork, the screenwriting, the directing, the humor, the acting and emotions, like... it was beyond my expectations. i know i’m talking like it’s the best movie ever created but it’s one of the very best. i might have to revisit this movie again this weekend. bong joon-ho really changed the game with this film. he’s an inspiration and highly respected by me.
*i recommend Okja and Snowpiercer that he also directed and wrote!
Get Out (2017)
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece!!!!
!!!!!!!!!! this movie!!!!!!! i love how you can guess the next move but you’re wrong. the symbolism throughout the film is so well planted that it can be loud af or it can make you go back to the scene to look it over. Jordan Peele’s movies are like riddles, puzzles, etc that you have to pay attention to pick up what he’s putting down, ya know? a genius. these are type of movies are my favorite where the story and the meaning is bigger than the movie itself. just like bong joon-ho, he’s highly respected by me as a director and writer.
Scream (1996)
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
i love slashers. unfortunately, it didn’t come out in time for to join the top 3 king slashers Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger but i like to sneak Ghostface into that mix sometimes. maybe bc i’m a 90s baby idk. Scream made a shift in the horror genre with its cleverness and it was like a game of Clue so it was kinda a fun game obviously. Wes Craven is one of my favorite horror directors. i really enjoy this movie along with the others. they’re all so entertaining even if they’re kinda goofy. even the tv series on mtv wasn’t that bad. i’m looking forward to the new one!
ParaNorman (2012)
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
this movie was a lot of fun! i really like this art style. the company laika that this film is under seems to be known for this style and it sits well. i really loved coraline so i had hoped that i would of liked ParaNorman and i did! i really liked the characters. it was all unique. i dig that. i’ve only seen it once, though, as i want it blu-ray and my DVD copy for stolen lol.
SLC Punk! (1998)
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
can’t believe i just said i haven’t seen this movie bc i know it’s a big one from back in the 90s - early 2000s. all i know is that i have heard of this movie and that Matthew Lillard is in it 😬 my friend that I worked with in at the music and movie store at wouldn’t shut up about the movie and Matthew to me after he had Matthew sign it at a comic con. i feel like i actually may enjoy this movie after i just read the description. so it’s on my watchlist!

I'm the kind of person who can usually find something to like with movies, especially with horror and the fx side. Practical fx are my jam, probs bc i worked at haunted houses for a long time. Legit love being covered in blood lmao. I hated La Llorona bc I couldn't get into it. I was so bored, ended up playing on my phone. Also super tired of remakes. New Pet Semetery and Childs Play? Nah. Loved It, though. Never liked the original tbh. That Pennywise costume was dumb lmao
for me it’s directing + cinematography / screenwriting — and its because i’ve only worked on film sets and/or being a director / writing my own shorts / operating cameras
everybody makes a big deal about remakes (and depending on the film it’s re doing - maybe i’ll speak a lil) but i’m fine w remakes.
child’s play remake looked ight (i only watched a kill count on it) however, it wasn’t made in good efforts nor energy - let don mancini continue how the series left off in cult of chucky (tho i think that’s what he’s doing w the syfy show!!)
i loved the texas chainsaw (03) remake — it’s the first horror i distinctly remember watching cause i remember what i was doing / where i was. and the friday the 13th remake (09) i fw hard,, it just depends who makes it / how it’s made / efforts etc
i think i watched the it remake a lil bit and it was decent. when the 2nd one came out ppl were complaining cause they k-word a queer character — but like bro if ur gonna complain,,, read the book cuz that’s not the worst thing that happens at alllll
we’re being social 🥰

Percy Jackson might be becoming a tv show. Who would you like to see cast for the main characters?
i think i've answered a question like this before???? personal bias, but if we go with teen actors (rather than the canon book 1 ages of 12), i would love to see asher angel as percy. i think he'd fit the role really well. especially if they somehow incorporate any of the musical songs into the show, lol. don't worry, i know they wouldn't and i'd be fine with that.
jack dylan grazer could also make a good grover. mostly bc i think he'd look adorable with lil horns sticking out of his curls (and hopefully with a streaming series budget they could maybe try going a more practical route with the goat legs, like with james mcavoy in the first narnia movie)
okay so the rest of my knowledge of young/teen hollywood is pretty limited to disney channel, stranger things, and the it kids so here are my other ideas for characters
- sophia lillis or emily skinner as annabeth (though if she were available and they were willing to go the racebending route, sofia wylie would make an excellent annabeth)
- luke mullen as luke castellan (i just think he has the potential to play secretly evil ally; shared name is just a coincidence)
- millie bobby brown as thalia
- wyatt oleff as nico
- gaten matarazzo as tyson
and that's kinda all i got so far lol. as for the adults, all i can think of is alex skarsgaard for chiron. i don't know when it comes to the gods or percy's mom and stuff. hope you like my suggestions, though!
(and disney, if any reps are reading this, consider me as a casting director and/or screenwriter 😊)

i watched a rip of fantastic beasts 2 and im just so disappointed (only mild spoilers nothing life altering)
johnny depp still being in the movies is fucking appalling
pls just bring back colin farrell and make him grindlewald idc how just do it hes precious
what happened to all the magic? they just poin their wands and blow things up but there aren’t any spells anymore
the mcgonagall thing seriously what the fuck
she wont be born for a few years why tf is she already a teacher?!?!
seriously where are the fucking spells please bring back the wonderment in the magic
leta was such a rough and edgy kid and then as an adult she was totally different pls just pick a tone for her
where the movie leaves off with her character 😡😡
the stuff with her parents...YIKES
all of the stuff with nagini...even more YIKES
queenies characterization...also YIKES
literally what the fuck was that shit
all of the women were pretty much just there to be love interests and that was kind of it
literally one woman is exclusively there to be horny for newt 🙄
where are the spells???
seriously so much of the characterization was soooooooo off
i thought theseus was supposed to be an asshole bc of how much newt hates him but hes just this by the book cinnamon roll
i know that newt is supposed to be on the autism spectrum and i support that a ton but they aren’t handling it as well as they maybe could and they kind of just make him look like an asshole
im saying that as someone that has sensory processing disorder which has some similarities to autism so im not the 100% authority on how to correctly portray autistic ppl but i do kind of have a stake in it
i don’t think the portrayal is awful I just think it could be handled a bit better
the titanic stuff...???!?...nonsense
so many characters...so little development
tHE ENDING what the fuuuuuuuuck
seriously not to be all country-fried but it’s absolute hogwash
pls tell me it’s a lie bc that shit is for real dumb
why y’all going to wizard school for 7 years if ur wands are just point and shoot
dUmBlDoRe AnD gRiNdLeWaLd R gAy bitch where
show it u cowards, that would make for a FAR more interesting character motivation than what they went with uwu magic vial
like it’s simmering under the surface but u should actually show it and not make it up for diversity points™️
pls bring back spells im begging u
this movie could have been really great and they’re just squandering so much stuff in my opinion
basically im upset and someone needs to get jk a screenwriting partner bc she tells and not shows which is gr8 for books but not for film and tv. also i think it’s time for a new director and editor bc it was kind of by the numbers and the same stuff and the franchise needs some new energy if they really wanna stretch this into 5 movies and keep going with other spin-offs and the like. they’re gonna star wars and dceu this if they aren’t careful.

i’m trying So Hard to avoid arguing with strangers on the internet over “one character is not explicitly gay in one movie” but the number of people who are like “omG it’s nbd not everyone has to have their relationship/sexuality mentioned!!!” is making it hard bc
sure no y’all right and if this was literally any other gay character i’d be p cool with that counterargument, i’d disagree but not enough to start shit over it
but also
romantic subplots are such a huge movie trope they are LITERALLY THE EARLIEST SOURCE FOR DUMBLEDORE BEING GAY
DID Y’ALL FORGET THAT
SOMEONE TRIED TO REFER TO A STRAIGHT LOVE INTEREST FOR DUMBLEDORE IN ONE OF THE ORIGINAL MOVIES AND JKR INTERJECTED TO TELL THEM THEY COULDN’T BC HE’S GAY
hollywood is so chock-full of unnecessary straight love interests jkr had to out a character to keep him from getting one but yeah sure it’d be just plain silly if a movie titled after said character’s love interest actually... like... clarified their relationship
ultimately i really dgaf about dumbledore but i’m super sick of this bullshit where directors and screenwriters cheerfully acknowledge queer people and the potential for queer characters but can’t be bothered to put us on screen and tease us with a vague “eeyyy maybe next movie!” when we could have already been in this movie, or the last movie, or a movie which came out nine years ago, and a double fuck-you is given to any gay people who do care because when they are understandably hurt by the constant "yeah we thought about you but decided lol not yet” a fuckton of straights and good well-assimilated gays have to crawl out of the woodwork to remind us Gay People Are More Than Just Their Sexuality and also actually having one (1) canonically gay character would be Just Too Much (really! do you want the WHOLE MOVIE taken over with gay wizard gayness? because those are the only two settings, you know. gay people are either so subtle they’re practically in the closet or they take up every second of screentime. we can’t possibly work in a canon reference to sexuality without a whole romantic subplot nor can we possibly have a gay romance which takes up the same amount of screentime as the approximately ninety quizillion het romantic subplots in cinematic history which somehow didn’t override the main plot.)

LARB YOU RUBY CONGRATS
hellOO lettuce hands mcgee & thank you!!!
blog compliment!: um okay kass i totally freaked out when you were like “oh year i’m spideyyparker” and i waS like wAIT what bascially you’ve been way too cool from day one!! you’re an angel to everyone, i larb ur icon and layout and entire aesthetic and your writing??? whfiksdjla don’t get me started i just love you, sa-lad
ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT YOU NEED TO SEND IN A SCENARIO BUT BECAUSE I LARB KASS I MADE ONE UP FOR HER yeah kass yours is extra bc i love you and i forgot instructions
okay so peter
peter is fucking whipped for you
since day one
you were new to midtown and he didn’t completely notice you at first
too engrossed in his book
till ned elbows him like
“psst new girl”
and holy god
he’s pretty sure that when they talked about love at first sight this is what they meant
kass, you little cutie,
would’ve just been sitting, headphones in
trying not to look too weird or different for like your third day at this new school
but when the teachers hushes the class
everyone turns to ‘new girl’ because oops, someones forgot to turn off their loud music and now everyone can hear the faint tune of fergilicious through the ear buds
;)
but peter just finDS it so adorable as you rip out your headphones with gloriously red cheeks
he finds out he’s in your history class too and fdsfklsdhnkds he spends the entire time gazing adorably at you
“peter, you need to stop staring, its weird you loser” - mj
“i think he prefers the word, ‘romantic admiring from afar” - ned
but afterwards, he made sure that ned invited you to sit with them at lunch
very persistently
“you have to ask her to sit with us–otherwise she’ll be sucked up by the populars and then my slim chances of being friends with her become zero negative!”
tho he didn’t want to be just friends
so ned asked if you’d like to sit with them
it was a lil awkward (like all friendships are)
“um, yes, hi, i’m kass–”
peter just zoned out his only thought being kass
oh my god i’ve just discovered the name of the love of my life
but with ned there the conversation carried really easily
just everything he learned about you was ???? amazing??? spectacular???
he’s supa supportive about your career and he loves going over lines and shit with you
he goes on loads of photoshoots with you so you can practice photography
but he spends too much of his time taking photos of you
it means you get so many cute candid pictures of peter parker with a camera so???
he uses your love of film to have constant movie nights
“think of it as…studying!!”
“mmhm”
you can’t really say no though
especially because movies are when peter gets confident enough to hold you hand under the blankets
because you still make this cutie really nervous
um basically peter parker would love you with his entire heart
and i hope you find your peter parker, lettuce hands mcgee

People on Twitter don't get why there's hate against kathleen kennedy. Who knows, maybe bc she doesn't give opportunity to female directors/Screenwriters, has a big "problem" (aka racism) with women of color, laughed about FinnPoe, likes to cast clones of white british brunette, hired a dude who made like 5 sexist movies to write/direct Star Wars IX...
Well it’s not just twitter. Plenty of people here on tumblr who don’t get it either, no matter how much you spell it out for them.
*shrug*
People also claim that she’s being judged harder than she would have been if she was a man, comparing to how George Lucas was treated with the OT and PT. Well it’s not the 1980 or the 00s anymore and George never made any claims as far as I can recall at being particular diverse or wanted to be progressive. (And as someone who was around for the PT believe me, he got slammed plenty.)

daringdarrington replied to your post
“daringdarrington replied to your post “Got a lot of mixed batb...”
i'd love to read your thoughts bc im def not gonna see it
random thoughts:
bill condon was a terrible choice for a director for 1, would have loved the see baz luhrman’s take and lol my dad said the same thing to me after the movie so apparently we’re of the same mind
there were definitely mostly good casting choice but emma was such a terrible belle it overshadows a lot. but i particularly liked josh gad and kevin kline as le fou and maurice respectively
my brother said he thought there were stronger stockholm victim vibes in this one at first than in the other one (my bro never got stockholm victim vibes before and he has a B.S. in Psychology and is going to back to grad school for it) and he’s very annoyed about it lol. this is bc the enchanted objects at one point try to trap belle
one reason we (my brother and I) think that certain issues might be very weak in comparison to the movie (aside from emma’s characterization of belle) is that both screenwriters were male. this movie needs to be written by a female. it just does. men can’t write this story. or at least not these men lol sigh.
the ugly yellow ballgown was bad when she was still but actually looked pretty when they danced to my surprise. still ugly but i’ll take what i can get. beast’s costume was perf.
i actually liked her ‘celebration/end’ dress.
i think it did best when it deviated from the animated film for the most part. i think those scenes would have been even better if they had deviated the entire film - they should have gone the jungle book/cinderella route and been INSPIRED by the movie not beholden to it.
like i said earlier though the mob song was on point. that was perfect. perfection. i’m in love. that’s how the whole damn movie should have been.
i still got teary eyed at appropriate parts bc they used alan menken’s original compositions from the animated film and it’s literally a reflex at this point.i think they should have just done that. no singing - just the background music - maybe insert a few lyrics as dialogue as a wink to the audience. but i’m not in charge so we get this shit instead.
there were definitely parts i enjoyed and i was very relieved that it happened bc literally the first half of the film i thought i was going to die of unhappiness.
i think they handled the courtship between belle and beast very well
i think there was too much emphasis on the enchanted objects - they dwelled too much on their suffering when the focus should have been on something else.
they created new songs instead of using stuff from the broadway show that said nearly the same thing but better - although i think i liked the new beast song that he sings after he lets belle go. i’m not sure still. mixed feelings.
which, as I’ve said before, is pretty much my entire feel on the movie: Mixed. Feelings.
But. Mostly. Bad.
also gugu should have been belle

lmao im kind of afraid of talking to my profs from major thesis project course about my project, cause im THIS CLOSE to going off on both of their stuck up faces. I didn’t want to talk about this on this blog for at least a month now cause i know its gonna turns to 30 paragraphs and everybodys gonna hate me for that. but i have to talk abt this now cause i gotta cope lol!!!
i s2g everybody in the class knows that they have been anything but helpful when it comes to supervising our project, and their suggestions are usually so subjective af. The fact that they structure a 4th year THESIS course with full year course load into ONE TERM is already hazardous as it is, they literally failed several people’s mid term progress report presentation on ARBITRARY TERMS (i passed, fortunately, but my grade was not pretty). it was twenty fucking five present of people’s overall grade, and it’s not like people didn’t meet the very VAGUE guideline they provided for this presentation--which is just to show them what we have done so far. It was a progress report, and I’ve talked to several people in class about it, we all agree that we are not supposed to be graded on WHETHER OR NOT THEY LIKE OUR WORK OR NOT, they are supposed to grade us on how much we’ve done. In their feedback for me, they makes suggestions of what i should have done and it’s like??? well you didn’t tell anyone what you wanted from this presentation, so are we supposed to just KNOW? Also, they literally could not muster a convincing reason for FAILING PEOPLE in the class on that mid term presentation!! and 5 fucking people went to the department head about their shit experience in the course, and if worst comes to worst, i WILL be the sixth person to go the department head.
last time i talked to one of them--frances-- about my project, she obviously didn’t like my unfinished rough cut of my short film, and decided that it was garbage based on that. Like i didnt do sound editing, colour correction--ANYTHING yet, i just put together some raw footage!!! she hasn’t even SEEN the entire thing, and I’m drawing inspiration from a director with very volatile and strange visual style and editing! A director that she obviously isn’t at all familiar with!!! (its wong kar wai, btw) SHIT even some of his films are hard to appreciate if you are not used to his kind of cinematography, and he’s a internationally acclaimed director that shoots his films on A. BUDGET, with PROFESSIONAL ACTORS WHO ARE MOVIE STARS, professional cinematographer and a decent sized crew of professional people, AS WELL AS BOUGHT EQUIPMENT THAT PROBABLY DOESN’T BREAK ALL THE TIME. Whereas im a film student shooting with no crew, no help from my goddamn profs that are supposed to supervise our projects, and shitty ass equipment that does not WORK sometimes (it’s such a thrill to work with audio equipment because oh bOY sometimes the shotgun mic just doesn’t record for no reason lol).
Honestly ive been really fucking depressed bc of this project, well im depressed in general but there is also this fucking project that makes it worse but its fine lol, and bc of that i had a hard time even touching the project. I reshoot two core scenes last Sunday and that’s all i fucking did. We are supposed to present our WIP for final feedback this week before presenting our work for real next week, and obviously im not ready since i can’t edit this film i just can’t. Every time i opened the editing program, and started editing i just couldn’t do it after a while cause i felt like no matter what i do its gonna be horrible and i will get a bad grade on my final project. I started to doubt my script, i started to doubt everything, and i couldn’t edit anything after Frances basically passed final value judgement on a VERY ROGH AND WIP version or something she doesnt like or yet to understand. And its stupid, but because of that fear of not achieving what i wanted to achieve, i couldn't do much editing. After I talked to Frances 1-2 weeks ago, i accommodated by planning to make a video essay to give context to the short film i will be screening either fucking way. I was gonna do a paper before deciding to concentrate on shooting the film. Frances straight up told me that i shouldn’t even show this film, she’s like “do you want to show people this?”, yes bitch i actually do, and how do u know its gonna be shitty when it’s NOT EVEN close to finished???
im just ranting here so i can calm myself down a little before going to see her today. I had good experiences in three of her classes before (got all As from them), PLUS she WROTE my reference letters for grad school, so i dont really want to end up in her bad book; but i know shes not the best prof and i took issue with how she structured her courses before (dude i learned NOTHING from screenwriting class, cause she just goes through the processes of writing a ten page screenplay and that’s fucking it. it doesnt matter i got an A from that course i just didnt learn much). Believe me, i was raised to not question teachers’ teaching methods and authorities, and if i take issues with profs and teachers it’s usually because they have done something seriously wrong. I dont think they gonna budge on giving me a better grade for mid term, but at least i want her to know what my main argument is in the video essay, just so i know if she has any constructive criticisms to give, because there is no point showing her a slightly updated version of the rough cut lol. im gonna have to muster all the strength i have to at least make the video essay by tomorrow morning to show to the class, and maybe a good clip from the film. Jesus Fucking Christ, i actually need this course to graduate cause its a 400 level 4th year course. Even tho i dont think im gonna fail i kinda want a decent grade for this course lol.

Re Max Landis
DISTURBING
‘Bright’ Screenwriter Max Landis Accused of Sexual-Assault
MARLOW STERN

FRAZER HARRISON/GETTY
Netflix’s first blockbuster movie, the $90 million fantasy-actionerBright, is a steaming pile of orc shit; a nonsensical garbage pile featuring elves, orcs, a checked-out Will Smith, Chicanx gangster stereotypes worse than those regrettable “Homies” figurines (a trademark of its director David Ayer), and a slow-motion shootout set to Bastille that’ll make you want to go full Sam Neill in the final third of Event Horizon—that is, rip your own eyes out and run around naked attacking people.
It is also, according to the testimonies of several industry people on Twitter, written by an alleged sexual predator.
Bright was written by Max Landis, a 32-year-old screenwriter who became a hot Hollywood commodity after penning 2012’s found-footage superhero film Chronicle. Since then, however, he’s been attached to a string of misfires, from his directorial debut Me Him Her to the forgettable flicksAmerican Ultra, Mr. Right, andVictor Frankenstein. In the wake of Bright’s critical drubbing, people have mocked Landis’ considerable privilege, given both the amount of opportunities he’s been given since Chronicle, a film that was more effects and performance-driven, and the fact that he is the son of John Landis, the celebrated filmmaker behind classics like National Lampoon’s Animal House, Trading Places,Coming to America, and the “Thriller” music video.

Despite the poor reception, Netflix has reportedly green-lit a sequel to Bright, with Smith attached in the starring role. It is unclear if Landis will be writing the script.
In the early hours Friday morning, Netflix’s official Twitter account sent out a tweet promoting the premiere ofBright, set to debut that day. Anna Akana, an actress who appeared in a Landis-helmed YouTube video titled Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling, responded to the tweet, writing: “Written by a psychopath who sexually abused and assaults women, right? Cool.”

The tweet from Akana, who did not elaborate further, led others to take to Twitter and accuse Landis of sexual misconduct—including Zoe Quinn, a prominent video game developer and artist, who unleashed a Twitter thread directed at Landis that began with: “Sometimes men who commit sexual assault are talented screenwriters and their work comes with baggage. other times, they’re Max Landis.” Quinn further alleged that Landis’ abuse was an “open secret” in Hollywood, and that she’d been withholding the story for a while because “him & his dad are powerful figures.”

Folks were mad that a Pepe Le Pew movie was being made because who needs a movie about a rapist skunk but at least it meant max landis could switch from cringe fiction to finally writing his autobiography and writing what he knows

It probably has been an open secret for so long because it’s hard to talk about the seriously fucked up shit he’s done when you say his name and everyone within earshot has to seek medical care from reflexively rolling their eyes so hard they sprain. you can’t control it.

I’ve been holding in this shit for years as more friends have accrued “max landis stories” bc it wasn’t my place and him & his dad are powerful figures so naturally going against that is terrifying for survivors so I’m SO glad people are finding out what a piece of shit he is.

I hope each one of his teeth break individually.

my last encounter with him was watching him tell my friend on the night that her ex beat her up that since she’s gotten abused before she should figure out what she’s doing to cause all that drama for herself and not to reach out to friends about it on social media

I hope this means I don’t have to avoid more cool parties that I know he’s been invited to too because life is too short to deal with someone who is like if a gross uncle and cocaine had a baby and the baby was also a rapist

Talk alluding to Landis’ alleged history of sexual misconduct has been floating around industry circles for quite some time. And back in early November, MADmagazine editor Allie Goertz sent out a cryptic tweet that read, “I can’t imagine who is more scared in a post-Weinstein world than a famous director’s son.” The tweet was, according to several people familiar, about Landis, and the thread prompted a reply from Akana, writing, “Believe you. Support you.”
Earlier this week, Jake Weisman, creator of the upcoming Comedy Central series Corporate, composed a tweet that appeared to be directed at Landis: “Definitely watch that big Netflix movie coming out, written by that fucking psychopath who is one of the worst people alive.” Mike Drucker, a writer for The President Show, replied to it with: “Jake, I have exactly entirely 100% no idea of whom you’re talking about but I just hope he doesn’t have a powerful father in Hollywood who’s covered up for the fucked up shit he’s done.”
Former BBC host and sketch-comedy writer Siobhan Thompson then responded to Drucker’s tweet, writing: “I don’t know who you mean but if that’s true I bet I have SEVERAL friends who have been sexually assaulted by him.”

Landis also has a history of making outrageously problematic statements. Back in 2013, the then 28-year-old rising screenwriting star did an interview with Shelby Sells (that has since been deleted), where he discussed sex and Hollywood—including an episode wherein he alleges that an extra on one of his films tried to pursue him, so he gave her his number “because i was like, why not? maybe i’ll hook her up with one of my friends.”
“Women who are throwing it that easy—they’re not doing it because they think i’m cute, they’re doing it because they need some kind of validation. i’m a tiny, tiny bit successful, but in the scale of things you’re gonna fuck me for no reason? i don’t see it. i’m not on that level. i’m not a rockstar—i’m not in a band, you’re not going to be in my video. the only thing you could get from fucking me is getting to fuck me, and if so, lucky you,” said Landis. “i guarantee that’s not what any of these chicks who just throw it at me really want. granted they’ll have a wonderful time, but it’s weird. being a single guy in LA is fun as fuck and i love it. the fact that everyone here is so good-looking is intense and good and rewarding. something about everyone around you being a little bit better looking, it puts you in a good mood. i don’t feel bad or superficial for saying that. i’m also attracted to ambition and there’s a lot of that out here. but yea being a single guy in LA is great. sorry it took me so long to answer that question.”
Later on in the interview, Landis expounded on an ex he says he “gave a crippling social anxiety, self-loathing, body dismorphia, eating disorder to.”
“i mean you can’t really give someone any of these things, but the seeds of these things were there inside of her. we were in such a sort of unfair, fucked up relationship—not the kind where there’s a lot of yelling and screaming—the actual relationship was very nice and loving, but i was so fickle about her body. i’m not shy, i would just blurt out shit all the time. she ended up completely changing how she dressed and how she looked for me. that chick will never talk to me again,” Landis said.
It should be noted that this wave of allegations against Landis are, at this point in time, just that. The Daily Beast has reached out to Landis’ representation and will update if they respond.
