"Sam Finds the Note" and "Bucky Has Regrets"
This is for the @sambuckylibrary's TFATWS Anniversary Event 2024's prompt "Divorce Arc" Keep reading has the description of the gifs.
"Sam Finds the Note"
Sam stands on The Paul & Darlene as he holds Bucky's goodbye note, which reads:
"I'm sorry, Sam. I have to join them to protect you all. - Bucky"
The dialogue goes:
Sarah: Please come back with me to the house, Sam.
Sam: I'll meet you at the truck in a second, Sarah.
Sarah: ...Okay, I'll be in the car.
Sam: ...
Sam: Bastard...
Sam: We could have fought this together.
Sam: If you believed in me...
Sam: If you believed in us...
Sarah: ...Sam?
Sarah: ...Sam?
Sam: I'm coming.
Sarah: Okay, Sam.
"Bucky Has Regrets"
Bucky holds his head in his hands on a plane as the net behind him sways.
The dialogue goes:
Bucky: I'm such an idiot.
Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Val): Stop complaining, Sergeant.
Val: A few missions and I'll let you go back to playing house with the new Captain America...
Val: ...for a day before I bring you back in.
Bucky: I should have listened to Sam.
Val: And, what? Let me seize The Paul & Darlene? Bring Sam in for vigilantism? I would have.
Val's phone rings, rings, rings.
Bucky: Why did I only leave a note?
Val: Get a grip before we land, Sergeant.
Val: I don't have time for this - Val speaking. What's up?
Val walks away and her heels clack, clack, clack away.
Bucky: Sam was right.
Yelena: Probably. But you're here now, Barnes.
Bucky: I should have stayed. Fought this.
Yelena: She threatened your family.
Bucky: Yelena, Sam's never going to forgive me.
Yelena: Maybe he'll be so mad that he'll find us and save us to give you a piece of his mind.
Bucky: Why did I panic and agree to this?
Yelena: Because you're an idiot like you said.
Bucky: I'm so sorry, Sam...

Of course it was only natural that the lands of Sumeru were going to get so much attention given what it just recently had gone through. It happened like that in every nation after a major event. It isn't so much that he failed to see it coming more so that he has to deal with it. The questions, the press, most of said press hailing from that insufferable place of Fontaine, wanting the next best story in their dumb newspapers. He's heard they have a field day with the traveler. How, you may wonder, is it that he has to deal with it? Well, the main reason Sumeru was so in shambles was because of him after all, what he had done, what he almost accomplished with the help of those accursed sages and that stupid doctor. Is he going to say any of that? No, of course not, even if he wanted to he knows Lesser Lord Kusanali would prefer that be kept under wraps for now and it is in Tetsuya's best benefit to do so as well... at least for now. When Kusanali had told him that she needed him to attend this little conference in front of the Akademiya in her place he did not hesitate to immediately bring up Alhaitham, since he is the current acting grand sage, but she immediately shot that down with him being as busy as she is with Akademiya matters and making sure its foundation doesn't fall apart. Kusanali didn't outright say this is happening because of him, but he could see it as clear as day when she told him he was going to be attending in her place, that she too had many matters to attend to.
There's a word for that, what was it again? Accountability... he can't say he fancies it so much when it's something he himself has to apply.
But, he is a class act, an award winning actor and he shows it as much as he paces out into the open with a fake smile that only those most familiar with him would be able to tell it isn't genuine.
"Hello there!" He waves at the journalists who in turn look at him along with a couple of travelers that, he assumes, were curious about what was going on. Why... there's some faces in the little crowd that he recognizes. "Well met my dear journalists."
"Who are you?" One is so bold to ask. "We were expecting the Lesser Lord or the current acting grand sage at least." The gentleman raves, seemingly disappointed with who it was that greeted them.
(How annoying), Tetsuya thinks, still keeping his façade intact and not allowing it to crack. "Yes, well given certain straining circumstances I'm positive all of you are renowned enough to understand why they couldn't precisely be here personally. They are quite busy picking up," my mess, "on a lot of slack." He explains, feeling rather ridiculous being surrounded by a bunch of people writing away at their little notepads, it reminds him so much of Scaramouche, like he's standing right here again and it's getting under his skin, an itch he does not appreciate, but he keeps up with his appearances, all smiles, and a pleasant air for those who've traveled so far and wide to come witness Sumeru in its new age without the Akasha terminal.
Tumblr media
“Yet, permit myself to display my manners in a display of my good grace and introduce myself nonetheless.” he speaks up again, not allowing them to stew too long on what he's just told them, a tactic he used and learned well, honing it over the years. "My name is Tetsuya," he relinquishes his name, "I am Lesser Lord Kusanali's trusted friend." As he suspected this garnered him quite the attention. "And I stand before you all, on this most auspicious of days to answer all your questions to the best of my ability." He tips his hat, concluding his introduction and thus commencing this conference he so begrudgingly has to suck up to. It seems like saying that he was Lesser Lord Kusanali's friend made him more interesting to them, how predictable, his smile glazed over by a sense of cockiness. They are so easy to read.
The questions they fling at him are bigger softballs than he initially anticipated them to be, or perhaps his skin is too thick to feel intimidated by such questions. Most revolved over the incident of the false God and the sages, wanting to know the details behind how they were taken down, Kusanali's decision to put the Akasha to rest, and what awaits for Sumeru. Tetsuya answered every single one in strides, he's done this multiple times before after all, but not as himself but as another form of himself, though he is dead now, no reason for him to dwell on it. He allows the conference to go on for a few moments longer before making it come to a close. He uses the fact that they are crowding the entrance to the Akademiya as an excuse. His smile remains the same, but his mood is all the more sour, but he supposes it was only fair that he dealt with this even if it bothers him to admit such a thing even to himself. He waves the journalists as he watches them walk down towards the city. In the crowd of adventures there was a face he recognized earlier which at this time it takes Tetsuya a moment to spot if only because it seems that she's preoccupied with a child. The sight makes Tetsuya curious so he approaches them both, raising an eyebrow as a certain language he's all too familiar with catches his attention. It is Inazuman. It sounds like she's providing the child with directions towards Sumeru's café, where apparently his big brother and sister are awaiting for him.
Tetsuya doesn't say a word, instead stands at a fair enough distance and allows the two to continue conversing, a conversation that seems to flow fairly well enough.
"Arigatou!" The child beams at Tem before he is well on his way, catching sight of Tetsuya and smiling at him as he passes him by, a smile Tetsuya returns in kind. "Slightly rough, but not too bad." He speaks out to her. Truth be told she did fairly better than most who've tried to pick up his motherland's language, well enough to where the conversation flowed without so much of a hiccup. He didn't think her to know the language, at least from their first encounter how was he to guess such a thing. Tetsuya is slightly shy of five hundred years old, so to say he is critical of how others speak Inazuman would be an understatement, he knows the language a little too well for most perhaps. Tetsuya wasn't much for small talk, in fact he's not a big fan of it so pleasantries isn't something he humors too much, it's such a bore after all. It is a rather odd thought to see natives from his motherland here, it reminds him that his mother lifted the lockdown he had a huge role in making sure got implemented... it reminds him of all the work he has yet to do. "It seems like Sumeru is so popular now a days." It's more crowded than usual which is most unfortunate, her reasons for being here are none of his concern. "I never know who I'm going to run into lately." She seems to be in good health, all things considered anyway.

had to abandon dance academy. can't watch Sammy being sweet and happy and thriving knowing how this ends
#have actually seen this show once before when i was younger but couldnt remember anything about it#just got to S2 tho and........................my memory of one specific event has been triggered#silly how upset it makes me but i dont think a character death has hit me so hard before#i think the other time was finn#like that fucked me up for a whileeeee#it changes the show completely#so i cant even be all: hmmmm but have i considered he doesnt die if i dont watch that part??? bc its a HUGE impactful event#physically cant stomach watching this boy finally begin to find his place in the world#get good at dancing. figure out his sexuality. fall back in love with his girl and life again#knowing his story will end prematurely and suddenly and with unfulfillment#he has his solo ready and it's good and maybe he'll even win the pre de fontaine but then its all over#im decending into a state of devastation watching it#no closure for his friends or his almost-girlfriend-again or his ex boyfriend#and his last ever words were him supporting and caring about his friends and putting them first always my heart :(#it's tragic#even more so you've got his father who never appreciated or supported him until he was dead and it was too late i-#refused to pay his tuition when he was alive but donated to the academy for years after he died in his memory i--------------------#things were working out for him#and I love the decision seriously they did it obnoxiously well. heartbreaking. realisitic. they continued talking about him#and feeling the repercussions of his death for the entire next season after if im remembering well#but that's what makes it so upsetting he was so GOOD. A genuienly good person and the soul of the show#you could feel a hole in it once he was gone#and this is a young teens show !!! wow#was crying my eyes out when i remembered and watched one of the clips#gonna watch rick and morty to try to cheer myself up#really feelin' like that one dad from Harry Potter who's wailing over his son's dead body after that game?thing? that happens

Genshin is such a weird game to me bc i will play and enjoy it a lot (most of the time) while waiting for banners of a character i really like but when the banner actually swings around i just can't be bothered to play it and do events for primos n rolling for the charas.... (has happened with all zhongli banners but i did end up getting him on the original one, albedo, xiao and itto, which, i got itto 20 minutes before his banner went away lol)
For me, Genshin is one of those things where you're just kinda.... waiting for it to get good. Which hasn't happened yet, but any day now. Probably. Uh, maybe in Fontaine.... or maybe... Snezhnaya...
I think one of the problems is that what they do produce just... isn't that fun? Or at least for me, that's the case? I'm not very enthusiastic about Ekanomiya, so it's taken me ages to finish it, because... it's a big empty area that's just puzzles and ghosts expositing lore. It looks cool, but there's no real story here besides the bare bones stuff with the pyro lector. And if I value a good narrative and strong characters, Ekanomiya doesn't deliver.
But also, the hangouts are very boring? So I can't get invested in those either. So I'm really just coasting for 5star quests, events and story updates, which we don't get very often... feels like I just check in to spend my resin and check out. I should really take a hiatus now that I can get into FF14, but these damn gachas are set up to entice you to do stuff daily! The fiends!
anyway ayato design dropped allegedly. i am not super enthusiastic about it at this point, but maybe he'll have better writing than the norm? itto's quest was solid, after all.....

"Sumi!" Jungkook called. "Can you do us a favor?"
Jungkook and Jimin stood outside your door. You could tell they were up to something based on the smirk on their faces.
You had been quietly knitting, trying to forget the events of earlier that day with Minki and what happened in the backseat with Yoongi. You still felt Yoongi's lips on your stomach, soft, yet, demanding. He hadn't managed to leave any marks this time, which you were grateful for, but part of you wished you could have a reminder of the secret between you.
"What?" you asked.
"Yoongi was going to wake up at four to help us with the production on the new song. And it's almost four thirty now. Can you wake him up for us?"
You glanced at the two boys who while they seemed mischievous, seemed genuinely like they didn't want the task of having to wake up Yoongi.
"Why can't you do it?" you asked, putting aside the hat you were currently working on.
"He'll be nicer to you," Jungkook said. "He's grumpy when he wakes up."
You laughed slightly. "All right, fine."
You followed the two boys towards Yoongi's bedroom. You hadn't stepped foot in his bedroom yet, having only been in his studio. You opened the door slowly and tiptoed towards the bed where the boy's form was curled up asleep. Despite being taller than you, when he slept he made himself look so small, his knees curled up towards his chest and his arms around a pillow.
"Yoongi," you said, lightly shaking his shoulder. "The boys said you wanted to get up at four. It's four thirty."
You hear an annoyed groan and before you could protest, Yoongi dropped the pillow and pulled you onto the bed, his arms wrapped tightly around your waist. He rested his chin on your shoulder and you felt the soft scratch of his barely there facial hair.
"Sleep with me," he whispered, his hot breath tickling your ear.
You reached up to the pillow above you and threw it back towards him, hearing it hit with a solid thud.
"Fuck you." You attempted to squirm from his grasp, your legs kicking the covers and his legs. Yet, he never loosened his grip.
"Already have," he whispered, his voice husky. You felt his smirk against your shoulder blades and for a moment you thought he would begin kissing you again. But, as you reached for another pillow, his arms released from around you.
You got up from the bed and walked out of his room, his scent clinging to your clothes. You stopped to glance at Jungkook and Jimin who stood by the door, wide eyed at what they witnessed. You could only imagine what it looked like to them: Yoongi pulling you onto the bed and kissing you as you playfully tried to push him away.
"I see why no one likes waking him up."
The two boys awkwardly nodded and walked into Yoongi's bedroom, shutting the door behind them.
You couldn't help but laugh slightly at the boy's assumptions before walking back towards your bedroom at the end of the hall.
---
You hadn't spoken to your parents since before the night you and Yoongi met. You didn't call much due to the long distance charges to the US, but you figured you needed to update them about everything.
"Hello?" your mom answered the phone. "Sumi?"
"Hi mom," you said. "How's everything?"
"Good, busy as always. But, don't worry about us, how is my daughter?"
"Well, there's a lot that's happened since I talked to you last."
You explained the situation, careful not to tell your mom too much. You knew if you explained that you'd had a one night stand your mom would be disappointed and scold you. Despite being an ocean away in California, your mother still managed to make you feel like you were a fifteen-year-old again who got caught sneaking out.
"Oh, I'm so happy you finally got rid of Minki," your mother said. "I never liked him. And I can't wait to meet this soulmate of yours, what did you say his name was again?"
---
"Min Yoongi," Yoongi heard as he walked towards your room on the way to the bathroom. He stopped, noticing the small crack in your door. He wondered if you had managed to see him in the hallway, but as he approached he noticed that you were pacing around your room.
"No, mom, don't Google..." You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose. "I get it, mom," you said laughing. "He's cute."
You didn't talk for a moment, but you cutely chewed on your bottom lip which made Yoongi want to replace your teeth with his own. He pushed back the thought as you spoke again.
"Well, we all agreed it would be best for me to move in with his band so that his career wouldn't be affected and I could continue working online or once things get better do in-person sessions."
You went silent again. Yoongi couldn't hear what your mother was saying because she was speaking so quickly.
"I know, mom," you said. "I'll be careful. The only trouble we've had has been with Minki. His fans don't know."
Yoongi's stomach turned. Guilt.
"At first, I wanted to go along with what the doctor's said and do the relationship, but I'm glad we didn't now. It may be harder for a while, but we barely knew each other and asking one another to put in effort to a relationship neither one of us wanted didn't make sense."
Despite your words being Yoongi's rationale, they felt so harsh coming from your mouth. He was glad the arrangement had become easier for you, but there was part of him that felt disappointed.
---
"How's grandma?" you asked, once your mom had finally calmed down about Yoongi. She had taken it better than you expected her to, however, you were slightly worried she was expecting grandchildren any day.
"Good," your mom answered. "The doctors say her treatment is going well. As they say, no news is good news."
You sigh, wishing you could be in the US with your family, but you stayed behind to go to school and by the time you finished, you already had a life you didn't want to leave in Korea. You visited as often as you and your parents could afford, but that was normally only at the holidays.
You had no siblings and many of your parent's siblings were also in the US or in Busan. Seoul was a lonely city, but you made it work.
"All right, well take care of her and yourself, okay, mom? And tell dad I miss him."
You ended the call after you both said your goodbyes. You sighed in relief at having finally explained the situation to your family, but you couldn't help the worry that formed in your stomach. You were normally able to suppress the constant worry about your grandmother, but every time you talked to your mom it always seemed to worsen.
---
Yoongi stepped away from your door once you hung up, so he wouldn't be discovered. He felt a small pang of guilt from eavesdropping, but your door was open and you had been talking about him. He pushed it away, knowing it really didn't matter.
He walked back to his studio and sat down at his desk, Jungkook and Jimin listening to their vocals. He wondered what was up with your grandma, while it didn't seem out of place to ask how she was doing, the way your brow had furled and the way you chewed your lip nervously made him think that there was something else going on.
"Yoongi?" Jimin asked, taking off his headphones. "Everything okay?"
Yoongi shook himself out of it.
"Yeah," he said. "Sorry, not awake yet."
---
"Sumi," Namjoon said, knocking politely on your bedroom door. "Do you want to come and help me work out some lyrics?"
You looked at the leader in somewhat disbelief, your eyes wide and your lips pursed.
"Me?" you asked. "Wouldn't one of the boys be better?"
"Maybe," he said. "But, it's not often we get a perspective of someone outside of the industry, and you've been in your room since you got back. I know it was tough to face your ex and thought you might like some company."
You smiled, Namjoon was so perceptive, you wondered if he could read your mind. You realized how much easier it would be if you were his soulmate instead of Yoongi's. Namjoon understood you and always seemed to know how to make you feel better.
"You can bring your project with you," he said, leaving towards his studio and leaving the door open for you.
You followed the leader to his studio, which had fewer obstacles to enter than Yoongi's. Although, once you entered it was largely similar. A simple design with a few decorations and various awards hung on the wall.
He pulled up a chair beside him and motioned for you to sit down beside him. You sat down and looked over all the equipment on his desk. A normal desktop with multiple monitors, other things you didn't recognize, like a machine with various knobs and switches, and a microphone.
You remembered seeing most of the same equipment in Yoongi's studio, except he had a keyboard he kept in the center of everything. The black and white keys almost taking over the room.
Namjoon opened up a notebook with various notes in it. You even noticed a few notes in English, making you smile and remember that the two of you shared the language in common.
"How'd you get into music?" you asked in English.
"I always liked music," he said, also responding in English. "I read a lot and eventually it translated into writing. I don't know, it all just kind of happened naturally."
You smiled, noting the way his face lit up as he talked about his passion, his dimples appearing on his cheeks.
"I understand," you said. "I always liked to teach people when they learned that I speak English. I should've charged when I was in high school for all the tutoring I did, but I enjoyed it enough that I didn't care."
"What about knitting?" he asked.
"I was always crafty," you said, laughing. "Whenever I visited my grandmother in the US, she always had a knitting project and she talked about how it calmed her, made her realize she had more control over her fate than she believed. She used to tell me stories about the Fates in Greek mythology and how knitting made her feel like one." You looked down at your project--a black hat. "So, whenever I feel out of control, I knit. Sometimes, I don't even know what I'm making until it's finished."
You quickly bound off the yarn and slapped the finished hat on Namjoon's head, giggling. You expected him to take it off immediately and hand it back, but instead, he used the nearest computer monitor to adjust it so it sat over his hair attractively.
"It looks nice," you said.
---
The two of you worked in comfortable silence, the hat you made still sitting on Namjoon's dyed hair. You'd started a new hat with the same black yarn. You wondered if he had a girlfriend to give it to. You and Minki always used to wear matching hats or scarfs or gloves. He took whatever you made him wholeheartedly. They were probably still sitting in the top drawer of his dresser. You wished you could unravel the yarn and turn them back into a tangled ball of string.
Namjoon would occasionally run a line past you or hum a melody without realizing. You even found yourself humming the same melody back to him and when you did, he always shot you a small smile.
"Let's see what fans think of my new hat," he said, taking a selfie with his phone.
"Wait! Don't post that! Won't they think you have a girlfriend or something?"
He gave you an odd look before looking down at the picture.
"Does Yoongi have you that paranoid? If anyone questions it, I'll just say a fan made it," he said. "Not exactly a lie."
Your shoulders slumped realizing the easy solution. It was true that since the shoe incident, you were scared to be visible in the boys' lives. Their careers meant more to them than it did to you. You could be an English tutor nearly anywhere and no one could take knitting from you, but their music could be taken from them. You didn't want to be the reason they lost their passions.
"Come on," he said. "I have to go run this past Yoongi. You're welcome to come along."
You followed Namjoon to Yoongi's studio, taking your yarn and knitting needles with you. Namjoon rang the doorbell to Yoongi's studio and you had to stop yourself from laughing at the ritual of it all.
Yoongi came and opened the door. He greeted Namjoon and while he seemed slightly surprised to see you, held the door open to you.
"She's great to bounce lyrics off," Namjoon said. "Surprised you haven't picked up on that yet."
You sat down on the couch in the back of the studio while the two boys discussed the lyrics and the song. You took the opportunity to go on Twitter, seeing the picture of Namjoon in the hat. All of the fans complimented him, telling him he looked cute and demanding he go to bed because it was late. You smiled, hoping that if the fans ever found out about you, they would have similar reactions.
You went back to knitting, but couldn't help and look up when you heard the sound of the piano. Yoongi was playing the melody Namjoon had been humming earlier and you were impressed by his ability to translate the hums into notes so quickly.
His fingers slide over the keys naturally--the keys an extension of his fingers--much like the needles you held. Yoongi was serious, but unlike his normal seriousness which was grumpy or sexy (depending on the day), this time he was focused. His lips slightly pouted and his body relaxed.
Music for him was the knitting to you. It was the creation that helped you escape yourself to feel the smoothness of the keys or the needles beneath your fingers and trust that something beautiful would come from it.
---
You had fallen asleep by the time Yoongi and Namjoon had finished; still occasionally moving your fingers, trying to knit in your sleep. Yoongi smiled, remembering the times he woke up in the studio seeing the notes he'd unknowingly composed while he was asleep.
"Do you want me to wake her up?" Namjoon asked.
"No," Yoongi said, shaking his head. "Let's not disturb her."
Namjoon nodded, grabbing his notebook and leaving the room. He closed the door softly so he wouldn't wake you.
Yoongi looked down at your sleeping form. It seemed he'd seen you sleeping nearly as much as he'd seen you awake since the first time you met. The night you spent together, you'd fallen asleep first, cuddling into his side. Normally, he wasn't the cuddling type, at least not with a girl he'd just met, but seeing the lipstick smeared across your pouty lips and your tangled hair spread out across the pillow, he hadn't been able to resist.
He grabbed your knitting needles and yarn, setting them on the edge of his desk, within your sight so you could easily find them in the morning. It wasn't the first time he'd moved your knitting needles, for something you loved so much, you often left them laying around. Yoongi opened the bottom drawer of his desk where he kept a blanket for when his studio was cold or when he fell asleep while working.
He covered your form before shutting off the light and leaving the room quietly.

Part 7
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tai'chi Kashharzol (Orc) x Pearl Blackbell (Fem!Human/Reader)
Word count: 2.9k
Warnings: Violence, brief mention of attempted rape (minor character)
Tai'chi gently lets go of your hand as the two of you approached the building entrance, students filing out of the rooms, chattering as they made their way to their next class.
As much as you want to feel the warmth of his hand as he held yours, both of you didn't want to risk any more brash acts, having enough of what had happened in less than a day.
You are tired.
One more jerk approaching you with a snide, insulting remark will send you off into a frenzy of kicking everybody's ass. Your father always scolded you for this, lecturing you about the importance of training your self-control, to not let your temper get the best of you.
Come to think of it, if Tai'chi hadn't stopped you earlier, you would've lashed out at David without a second thought, which will then put you in a bad position, making everything far more complicated.
Worst case, they would have expelled you right away.
Self-control, huh. Should've listened to Papa and worked more on it.
You weren't paying much attention to where you were going as you walked through the slightly crowded halls. You let out an "oomph" as you bumped into someone's...arm?
Your apology didn't make its way out of your mouth as a tall, blonde elf, snapped.
"Watch it, human."
The elf gave an irritant side glance as they passed, looking down at you, literally. Like most elven kind, they were slightly taller than the average human. You scented them, subtle, taking in a smell that confused you. The usual sourness is there, but mixed with something sweet? Perhaps the elf was not a bad person after all. Sweet scents from your experience were good.
Kind, even.
"I'm sorry!" You called out, with enough volume, so they could hear you. Your apology was genuine, with a small smile hidden behind your mask. All you got was a 'hmp' in return.
Hey, at least they heard you. You really didn't mean to bump into them, maybe they didn't see you, in regards of your height.
Which wasn't much.
You turned to Tai'chi, and as always, he was watching you, his gaze soft, his face neutral, but you caught a small tug of his lips before it goes back to his previous expression as you went to your class.
-
Once you stepped inside, you subconsciously looked for vacant seats in the back. Luckily, there were still a few students when you arrived, the pink pixie and the lizard person catching your attention first. You waved as you pass by where they sat. The pixie waved back, seemingly cheerful with your greeting. The lizard person beside her, however, only gave you a curious eye.
You took your seat, Tai'chi following suit and took his beside you, the chair slightly creaking under his weight. You held your breath, releasing it after a moment when the chair didn't break. Tai'chi hummed in amusement.
A moment later, an old, white-haired man entered, followed by a couple of students in your class. He wore a light grey undershirt, a black vest with a red tie, matching black slacks and shoes, along with square-rimmed glasses.
You didn't see him in the office earlier so you have no idea what he's like.
"Good afternoon, students." The teacher began as he wrote on the blackboard. The class responded to his greeting before he continued with his aged voice. "I am Professor Hurton Flemming. I will be the one teaching you your General Mathematics. We will be..."
You listened to Professor Flemming as he briefed the class on what you will be tackling in his subject for your freshmen year.
"Please raise your hand if your name is called. I would like to know the names and faces of my students under my care this year." He took out what looked like a journal and started calling your names.
Turns out, the girl who shoved you this morning was Tiffany Morai. She did sound and act like a Tiffany, like a bitch.
No offense to the other Tiffanies out there.
Lilia Fontaine, the pink pixie. Her name suits her cheerful and bright personality just from her scent when you passed by. She smelled like an assortment of flowers. You weren't good with figuring out their names but you could hint marigolds, which was abundant where you were from.
The lizardperson, Eznet Novak, you found out right after. You couldn't scent them much, just a whiff of some earthy mineral you didn't know.
You thought back on what Tai'chi had told you in regards of your ability.
I should ask him later.
Eznet seemed apprehensive of you, too. Maybe they don't like humans in particular? Or is it because of your mask? People who wore masks are usually deemed suspicious so it seems.
The blue tiefling and the dwarf from earlier weren't present, you noticed. Perhaps they skipped or went somewhere else, another class maybe.
You looked to your seatmate for help when you missed someone's name. Tai'chi felt your eyes on him and he leaned down for you to whisper.
"What's the elf's name again? I spaced out for a second there," you asked.
"Her name's Arlenre Vinela."
Tai'chi whispered back, tilting his head to your ear. You couldn't help but feel a little shiver run down your spine at his rich voice. You hoped he didn't notice it. You almost forgot the name again.
"T-Thanks."
He huffed out a reply as he sat back in his chair. He briefly gauged your reaction, quite proud when he saw that slight tinge of color on your ear.
The two of you raised your hands in attendance, being the last ones called.

Once the professor was done, he left everyone to use the time left for chit-chat and other things as long as we don't cause problems. He is caring and openminded, you wondered what he's like when teaching actual lessons in class.
Ligh chatter filled the room, some in hushed voices, others in a casual one. You glanced to your right at a group of humans halfway across the large room as you sensed their eyes on you. They grimaced when you saw them and went back to gossip amongst each other.
You try blocking out their scents, letting out a tired sigh when you couldn't, you shut your eyes and attempt to get some rest before anything else happens, resting your head on your arm and desk.
What are the chances that a ball of paper would be thrown in your direction right after?
Pretty high.
The orc saw it flying over and caught it in his fist before it hit you. He shot a glare in their direction, huffing when the students pretended to have nothing to do with the paper.
Tai'chi suspected some worded insult inside, so he chose not to uncrumple it, shoving it inside his pocket instead. He'll throw it once he sees a trash bin on the way out.
You weren't aware of what happened and even if you felt the air move, you wouldn't care much. The day's events were catching up to you slowly, you're pretty sure once you step inside your apartment you'd pass out.
For what seemed like half an eternity later, the bell rang for the last time today.
-
"...Pearl." You two walked out, Tai'chi slowing down his steps for you as he took notice of your drowsy state.
"Hm...?"
"You are tired."
"Mhm yeah...that I am." You replied, yawning behind your mask. Tai'chi chuckled at this, he found you cute everytime.
"Would you allow me to walk you home?" He offered once the two of you got out of the school building.
You perked up, blinking away rapidly.
"W-walk me home?"
"Yes...? But if you're not comfortable with I unders—"
"No! I mean yes!" you spluttered, "I mean— I-I would like that...you walking me home, Tai'chi." Your little outburst drew some attention, but you were pre-occupied to even bother.
Tai'chi breathed out, "Good. That's good. I would like to talk to you about the, uh, courting, if that's okay with you? If you're exhausted we could talk tomorrow." There was no lie on how your eyes looked, you need to rest.
"Nah, I can pay attention for that," you insisted. "I'd like to know what these courting rituals are, today, so I'll know what to expect...and stuff. I seriously have no idea. I never ever, ever had any...suitors? Yeah, suitors."
Huh, now that you think about your past, you didn't find anyone you were attracted to, much to every other girl's convenience and annoyance when you wouldn't react like them when the "campus sweetheart" walks by, squealing and batting their eyelashes, puffing out their chests and raising their hips. They all acted the same way and you found it confusing why they'd do that, alienating you in the process.
"Not even one?" The orc was secretly baffled and relieved to hear that, but he'd never admit it out loud. Maybe.
"Before you? Hell, there are none. I don't think they know I exist, until I get into a fight with them or if they caught word about my reputation, I guess," you shrugged. "You see, uh, most people don't really like the thought of girls who are strong, and psh...capable of anything else other than being submissive, curvaceous and flirty with those skimpy skirts." You say to him, waving your hand in front of your face. You were out of the gate already, so you head right, Tai'chi an arm's length away to your left.
He grunts as he pondered about how those human men are blind and shallow in their choice of interest. Who would not want a strong woman? One capable of handling herself in undesired situations and protecting others?
The answer to that was obvious.
You remained silent for a while, the rush of vehicles and the buzzing of the city surrounded you as you got lost again in your own thoughts. You saw groups of high school students chatting along as they passed.
Tai'chi would glance at you from time to time, paying attention to your features, your tight braid swaying slightly behind you as you walked, and your hands hidden inside your hoodie. You took a left and crossed the street, and then a right after 8 minutes of walking straight, the area you were currently in was quite deserted in the early evening...
A scent.
You stood still, frozen as your nose caught something faint. Something familiarly bad.
"What's wrong?" Taichi asked, his brows furrowing, concerned as he watched you— why did you stop?
"Tai'chi, do you smell that?"
He inhaled the air around him, catching a whiff of something indecent and awful, he frowned, alarmed when he realized what it was.
Lust and fear.
A distant scream slit through the silence and you bolted.
It took a second for Tai'chi to follow, taking large hurried steps as you ran ahead of him towards the origin of the distress.
When you arrive in a dark dingy alley, you pulled out a pair of nunchucks from your bag, the red and black patterns barely visible in the shadows, your knuckle dusters on your left, fingers gripping them tightly. You saw a young girl, her uniform that of a high school student, similar to the ones earlier. She was held down against a wall by a brawny tattooed arm of a man, his hand slowly trailing up her skirt as the other people with him rummaged her school bag.
"P-Please let me go...!" She begged as she squirmed under his grasp.
"There now, little girl, you and I are gonna have so much fun tonight," he breathed at her neck, humming lustfully as he groped her thighs.
You didn't bother making a sound as you lunged, going for the first one as you whip your weapon and hit the back of his head. This startled him, letting go of the girl in the process as he stumbled back, she only sat there, shocked in place.
"What the fu—" You shut him up with a punch to his gut and another one to his jaw. He drops to the ground, unmoving, you hit him too hard, apparently. Not dead, at least.
You got to caught up on your front that you failed to notice the one behind you.
Shit.
Curse yourself for being such a reckless ass when you're lethargic. You braced yourself for whatever was coming, arms raising up to cover your head defensively.
A second passed but nothing happened, nothing hurt. You opened your eyes when you heard a strangled cry and saw a man, held at his neck against the wall by none other than your orc.
W-Wait he's not my orc!
Tai'chi disarms him and buries the knife into the wall just beside the their face, cracking the concrete in the process. He let out a low growl, reigning the urge to simply snap their neck for trying to hurt you. He glared down at them, the man shaking under his hold, terrified.
Your attention was quickly drawn away by a yell of someone heading for you, seeing a glint of another knife, you dodged as he repeatedly tries to stab. You wrapped the chains of your weapon around his wrist when he swiped, twisting it and making the man scream out in pain. You punched him square in the face, a tooth flying off as he spit blood. He falls down to the ground, just like the previous guy.
You attempt to chase the last one that scampered away. The quiet woosh sounded in the air made you hault. A small brick, you saw, flew over you and it hit the guy right on the head.
Anddd he's out. No, he's not dead. I think.
Tai'chi, (who else would've made that shot?) just saved you the trouble of running again. You doubt you could even reach the guy, you'd pass the fuck out within 50 meters.
You exhaled loudly, your hands on your hips as you let your body come down from another rush of adrenaline.
For like, five goddamn times now. You just can't catch a break today for fuck's sake!
While you were cursing every wicked thing out there, a whimper reached your ears, immediately silencing your thoughts.
Ah, right, the girl.
"P-Please don't h-hurt me." She cried out, her scent was heavy in fear, terrified as she stared at the orc who stood beside a man that lay unconscious at his feet. You ran to her, holding her face in your hands as you force her to look at you. The girl was trembling, her body flinching away when you touched her.
"Shh...shh... It's okay, it's alright, you're safe now. Calm down. Take deep breaths for me okay?" you assured. She nods and does what you say, breathing in and out in repeat until her scent changed slightly, though the fear was still there, her trembling turned into light shivers.
"He's a friend. He will not harm you."
You glanced at the orc, your eyes landing on Tai'chi smiled, which he returned with a small nod.
You helped her stand up and put back her things in the bag. Her phone was still in the area, luckily, the guy must've dropped it when he ran away.
Once that was done, the girl hugged you tight, taking you by surprise. You weren't used to this sort of physical contact, at least in a non-violent way.
"Thank you for saving me. H-How can I repay you, miss?"
"Oh no, no, no need to do that. I only did what was right. Just be careful next time when going home alone okay?"
"I insist, p-please let me repay you!" she pressed and you pulled back to look at her.
"No. Really. It's okay, you're okay now."
"But—"
"How about thanking my friend then?" You motioned to Tai'chi who was leaning his weight against the wall, watching you both silently.
"H-Him?"
"Yes, him. His name is Tai'chi and I'm PearI. I want you to thank him."
"But he's—"
"An orc. Is there a problem with that? No. Now listen here, girl, race doesn't fucking matter." You said as you took her hands and squeezed them. "Everything and everyone has a good and a bad side to them, no matter their kind. Do you remember who attacked you? Humans. Our own flesh and blood. Never judge anyone from what they look like, that and thanking him is enough as your payment."
She stared at you with wide eyes, nodding after a moment when she took in your words. She approached the orc, stopping a few feet away and thanked him, shyly peeking up at his face.
"You're welcome," Tai'chi smiled.

Part 8 will be out shortly! The day is not over— and I'm scolding myself for the pacing and I'm sorry...
