i like thinking about different reasons phillip referred to his partner/husband by his (their?) last name, such as
1. (normal) it's a work thing and so he wanted to be as professional as he could be while covered in flour
2. (gay people) gay people nicknames are just like that sometimes. maybe phillip started calling him that before they got together and it just stuck
3. (gay people 2) it's fun when you're gay married to nod at each other and go "hello mr. blanc" "hello to you too mr. blanc" hehehehe same name go brrr :)

🎉 Phryne movie polls
Tumblr media
Dear phrack-fans!
You've all voted for the plot of Phryne's next movie. Here you see a draft of the results.
Miss Fisher beyond the sea
(lots!! of sailing boats & bathing suits!). Not yet a story, but quite a set of places & people! (James Bond, pack up and go home!) If I'm blessed by the muse I'll try to piece it together. If you are: pls feel free to write it!
This has been fun! Thanks 😘

Cool Stuff in New Orleans
Back just before the turn of the 20th century, 623 Canal Street in New Orleans was the site of Vitascope Hall, the United States' first commercial movie theater. Beginning in 1896, some 400 patrons would find their seats in the hall, and enjoy 10 - 12 short films. Price of admission - 10 cents (about $3.67 today). For an additional 10 cents they could get a peek behind the curtain at Edison's vitascope projector. In spite of its popularity - it was the only profitable one out of the 40 Vitascope Halls built around the country - the promoters closed it after 3 months in favor of pop-up exhibitions instead of a fixed space.
The building that housed Vitascope Hall still stands, just 2 1/2 blocks from the Royal Sonesta (host for Miss Fisher Con 2024). Today it's home to short-term apartments and a convenience store.

One Dress a Week Challenge
May: Gold & Silver
Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears / Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher
Phryne wears both silver and gold in this movie, donning this sequined dress and cape to go dazzle an old flame. It's been long enough since I saw the movie that I don't remember now why she was wearing this dress in the daytime, but it seems to have the desired effect.
The cape is very pretty! The black top provides a dramatic contrast to the dress, while the gold at the bottom helps to transition into the dress skirt and make the whole thing look like a coordinated outfit. I've included a close-up of the organic-looking designs at the transition point.
The bottom photo comes from an exhibit of costumes from the movie and appears to show the dress without the cape.

A new ask game yay 💖 Let's see Miss Fisher's ;)
Oooh, thanks for playing, Gennie! <3 It's been a hot minute since I saw the OG show, so let's see what I can do with the details.
favorite female character: Oh, the wonderful Miss Fisher herself! Though Dot is lovely and adorable, Phryne is so charming, cheeky, clever, suave and cunning, it's impossible not to love her!
favorite male character: Tougher, might be a tie to be honest. Jack is a perfect match for Phryne and so charming in his own right, but Hugh is such a sweetheart and I know I felt bad for him a lot
worst female character: None I can think of, if any then one of the one-off ones??
worst male character: Oh, I do remember I didn't like her dad
otp: Jack and Phryne, their chemistry was through the roof
brotp: Phryne and Dot, such a wonderful duo!!
notp: I don't think I have any strong negative opinions??

It had me on the edge of my seat!
The kid stakes, 1927, Australia
Tumblr media
"Fatty and his goat Hector challenge rival Bruiser Murphy and his goat Stonker to compete in a billycart race - 'The Kid Stakes'. ... Beautifully filmed around the inner-city streets of Woolloomooloo, (...) and Rockhampton in central Queensland for the goat race scenes, The Kid Stakes is one of the real gems of Australian silent era cinema, with wide appeal to all ages and a charm that continues to this day." (https://shop.nfsa.gov.au/kid-stakes-the)
I love how they keep referencing that movie!

Dotty: "Rumour has it the Fatty Finn film Kid Stakes will be re-made into a talkie next year." ... Dotty being annoyed by something Hugh said makes fun of him while they are searching the garbage...
