((I can personally recommend watching Kruggsmash's Dwarf Fortress videos on YouTube, he makes illustrations of characters, artifacts, and events that happen in his fortresses as he's telling the story which helps with some amount of understanding. He also really gets into the rp side of it all and just has a nice storytelling voice in general. MonsterKiller, and HoneyStoker are my personal favourite fortresses he's done. HoneyStoker especially, but it has a rougher beginning and Krugg swaps between a few fortresses in that storyline. I'll cut myself off here, or I could talk about DF all day. My humble apologies to your followers.

I'll admit I'm a little concerned about how quickly and how thin exactly the veil may be getting, but I'll keep this rolling for now. I have ideas for how this can play out ic if you feel so inclined to indulge me. You'll see in the letter.

I have. SO MANY mini campaign ideas I want to DM. I love planning for sessions. Making borderline unnecessary props. And cooperative worldbuilding and character building is a favourite passtime of mine. Almost like I enjoy rp or something cough cough. Although when it comes to actually DMing a live session I feel like I choke, I can't read my own notes any more, and descriptive words suddenly all fall out of my brain like it's made of swiss cheese. It's probably all in my head as so far I haven't received any complaints from my players. In total I've probably only DM'd 4 or 5 sessions, all 5e (although once I tried to mix in my own dismal attempt at a homebrew mechanic.) Unfortunately the friendships fell apart and went separate ways due to outside and unrelated circumstances. But it's been 3 years or so and I haven't DM'd live since discovering CR and picking up a lot of techniques from Matt Mercer. I'd like to try it again with what I've learned. In the meantime however I've been DMing a murder mystery over text with my one remaining player still with me. Mostly just written rp, not unlike we have been doing here, although in a much shorter format, and involving skill checks and challenges whenever something necessary comes up. I'm much more in my element when writing tbh.

I am toying with the idea to retry the aforementioned homebrewed mechanic I attempted, but move it over to Call of Cthulhu one day, as the plot I had come up with mainly involved horror themed mindfuckery. But I'll need to do a lot more research and I'm currently, if you'll excuse the phrase, balls deep in 5e with my current headworld obsession.

Ahh I'm going on too long though, once again I apologise to your followers, and I'll leave you with that and move on to the actual letter now.))

In my mind the veil might have already been lifted, but I am having way too much fun to stop this, communicating like this both ic and ooc might just have ignited a small spark of mine to seek out some text based RP groups, while it has also been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about both you and your character, which I would never say no to.

Your enthusiasm towards DMing is all too familiar, I too get ideas all the time, I never write them down anywhere though so they always get lost to time, but perhaps that is not the worst thing for I feel like I am incredibly bad at describing things, and even worse at changing my voice for different NPCs, making it hard for my players to discern who is speaking with them in a conversation with multiple NPCs.

As mentioned before, this whole "thing" might make me seek out some text based RP groups, for as I've just now discovered with this, I seem to have an incredibly amount of fun with it, even if I sometimes have to google translate a word, or look for a word that better encapsulates what I want to say, since English unfortunately isn't my first language.

Despite my refusal to DM, since I feel I am awful at it, I've picked up the rulebooks of a good few systems I'd like to try someday, seems I simply have to find someone that will indulge in my torture and run them for me, hah!

Aside from DnD 5e, I have the core rulebooks of Pathinder 1st Edition, Cyberpunk 2020, Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Mage: The Ascension taunting me with their presence in the corner of my eye whenever I am using my PC.

I hope you know how much I truly appreciate this exchange, but alas, I shall too get to writing the letter. //

every day i sit with difficulty for the druids arc... so did geralt actually learn humility and sacrifice and stop being a witcher like they claim, because in the next book he takes witcher contract after contract

#ALSO the way that regis knows the druids is never explained and while i have my own headcanons this is frustrating #ALSO sapkowski began to lean too hard on the 'geralt descends underground dangerously but he Learns Something underground' #the only reason im willing to accept it is due to the physiologus entry on the korr that's just like 'nah fuck this guy' #also regis and cahir just ??? somewhere on horseback while geralt descended underground and then rode the knocker to caed myrkvid #milva gets her ribs broken by the druids just so the druids must heal her and they have to take the ducal invitation up #so they stayed a week or two in caed myrkvid and... none of this was described #geralt and regis return to search the caves under mount gorgon and somehow regis KNOWS AVALLAC'H for reasons that also arent explained #geralt & co must masquerade as nobility because they lied and said they were all undercover lords and ladies... #but milva tells the baron de trastamara that she was raised in the forest and geralt tells fierabras that he is not a noble #they're just damn lucky that the sorcerers and kings are all falling out as well as nilfgaard and the northern kingdoms are warring horribly #i love though how toussaint is such a political bubble that anna henrietta was kept in the dark about the war going on #there's no war in ba sing se but there's no war on the yaruga #i think the most annoying thing is that the druids arc ends with very little learned and little character development #geralt cahir and angouleme riding to the belhaven mines was fine and resulted in grand character development #but after that when regis finds them geralt doesnt develop any further except from renouncing witcherhood... but then in toussaint... #geralt: this is a mockery. someone is mocking me / regis: not by any means. not by any circumstances geralt of rivia #[after geralt descends underneath gorgon] regis to cahir: LOL me and my bestie just wanted to prank him a little. 3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

well. first of all: the fake dating au, or a room with a view. it was very hard to write and i'm very happy with how it turned out tbh. it's not the most popular fic in the tag by far (and it'll never be lmao) but the response was great and idk. i'm very proud of it.

i'm also really really proud of proof of life (codywan, e, order 66 au, the fic that made me start the bleak blowjobs tm series; obi-wan takes cody w him when he leaves utapau and takes out his chip while on organa's ship; cody doesn't take it well) and of monsterkilling (jango and arla fic, gen but not gen, open season au; arla saves jango from the spice freighter and they go on a roadtrip to kill tor vizsla). as of today, monsterkilling has 35 kudos but i think it turned out p good idk. i really enjoyed writing jango and arla in all their fuckedupness.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

i've already answered this one a couple times, but i think i'm going to grab one from monsterkilling this time. this is the ending of the first chapter.

“You’re Kyr’tsad.”

Arla blinks. She looks down at her buy’ce and caresses its pitted, scratched surface with crooked fingers.

“Yes,” she replies. She sounds—thoughtful. Jango narrows his eyes at her. “I am.”

Silence descends upon them. The wind makes the house creak, and a voice—a woman, maybe—calls for someone on the other side of the house. A few seconds later, small feet cross the hallway right outside the closed door at a run.

The blanket is—it’s handmade. It’s very obviously handmade, rough and thick and heavy and so warm. Jango’s dry, busted knuckles catch on the whorls of its design, but he doesn’t mind. It’s the realest thing he’s touched in months.

“Where’s he, then?”

Arla shrugs. “I don’t know.”

It hits Jango then: she’s not lying. She really doesn’t know. He thinks: about her shitty beskar, about her scars. The empty, awful way she looks at him. Her fingers, in his hair.

“Why did you save me?” he asks.

“You’re my little brother,” she replies.

There it is: toneless, matter of fact. The truth, as Arla sees it.

One of my favourite things of tma is the masquerade they have going on. Usually when you have a Secret Magical Underworld, there’s some kind of system of law (or honour with the force of law) in place to keep it secret from the plebs, frequently with some kind of enforcement squad to clean up any accidental breaches. But in tma, the whole fear power thing is mostly unknown by the world just because... people just aren’t inclined to prove its existence to outsiders. There’s nobody making anyone be secretive in their actions, it’s just easier for everyone involved if they don’t go widely advertising their fear magic to the general public. Everyone, from the monsterkiller cops to the secret fire cult to the dude with a bunch of obviously supernatural items in his research institute, is just like “actually my life is easier f I only talk about this when I have to”, and the people close enough to them to figure something out are all “do NOT tell me I don’t want to sign a section 31 and be roped into this bullshit/tormented by weird monsters/whatever”, and things just truck along because nobody can be bothered getting the whole world on the same page. If anyone accidentally finds out the details of Weird Magic Shit, people in the know just shrug and act like they should’ve known already and are an idiot for only catching up now. It’s great.

So basically, this song is about finding your identity in God and security that the things he says about you are true. There's security in being His.

Can you tell where this is going lol?

I'll start with Castiel because I think he's a bit more defined. His identity was pretty solidly “angel warrior hammer.” Even though the show canonically calls him out via Naomi for having always been different, never doing what he’s told, never getting it right. Even though all of that? Castiel was devoted to the cause. He kept the faith in their absent Father. But then his world turns upside down. And Castiel Falls, and he Falls for Dean (I’m talking literally, not metaphorically atm lol), but he also Falls in rebellion against the lie that his existence and purpose has been.

But Cas (just Cas now) slowly slowly remakes himself in Dean’s image. He builds his new identity almost completely around Dean and his ideology. He's a little guy, he's your huckleberry, he's his sunshine.

And yeah, this is not healthy in canon! Castiel has been shattered at the altar of Winchester and has devoted the rest of his life to his purposes (until they give him a baby).

Compels me though.

On the other hand, Dean, when we met him, had his identity completely and totally shaped by his father and his ideology. He was the leather jacket, classic rock, monsterkilling meat man. But as we spend more time with him, he starts to come into his own, the longer that John is gone. He likes robes! He likes Taylor Swift! He's a monsterfucker now! He still likes meat but now it's [gunshot]

Now, in juxtaposition to Dean, I would say that Cas lost his faith pretty quickly and shifted his faith to Dean quickly, too. For Dean, he is slowly allowed to explore identities outside of what John assigned to him. The Hunter identity didn’t betray him as such; it’s just not enough. It doesn’t really fit him.

And maybe it’s okay. Maybe he doesn’t have to be Like That all the time. Especially in Cas’s presence. Because Cas is a “weird guy.” Cas exists outside of the Society that Dean is Performing for. Cas only understands Society as far as Dean explains it to him. Cas is a male gaze (the kind of male gaze Dean was made for/thrives on), but one that adores him. Dean feels safe to construct intricate “weird girl best friends” rituals with Cas. This angel that he has a Profound Bond™ with has seen him down to the atoms and built him back up, with his brand on his shoulder. He knows Dean better than literally anyone else in the universe, up to and including thee abrahamic god. God may have knit him together in his mother’s womb, but Cas raised him from perdition and knit him together again. Something about the absolute intimacy of being knit together by only two people: your lover and god himself.

idk I just see Dean’s subby tendencies and the space he has carved out for himself to have this close relationship with his Profound Bondmate, and I think he would enjoy trusting in Cas. Imagine Dean allowing himself to depend on Cas. Having faith in Cas to love him. To support him. To tell him he’s worthy. Mmm.
