I decided to teach myself embroidery in the most convoluted way possible—by making a fantasy 2d fake moss terrarium for my dear friend @lupinuslepidus ! Embroidery floss and metallic thread on thrifted cotton canvas, approx 5x7.
[Video description: A 20 second video showing the process for embroidering a brown wool coat with green to look like it has moss on it. The first shot is the finished product, then a shot showing materials used, and several shots of french knots being pulled tight. The final shots are a wide shot of the finished product, followed by two close up shots of the embroidered areas. The embroidery is two tones of green in a bunch of little knots clustered together. /end video description]
I had such a good time making this. There was some damage to the lapels so I decided to do some visible mending!
@softest-punk 🥰 Here's The One They Called Spring. It'll be framed in white with white mount to go on their wooden wall but we didn't have time to get the frame last time I was home. 😊
The best part is that it's completely free hand, and it pushes me to try weird things and research new stitches that may result in unusual textures. 💜
The completion of a project deserves to be honored. Sit with what you've created, acknowledge the process, absorb the lessons, and celebrate the birth of new art into the world. Don't skip this important step by just diving into your next creation.

some visible mending I did on an old flannel recently! this was fun but took me so long to convince myself to do, Im very happy with how its come out though. The lichens are oak moss, bloodstain lichen, a third thats very common in texas but i forgot the name of, and then some lovely little algae (i love algae in theory but hate it in eutrophication ;v;)
Such a joy to make these lil guys. Mushrooms are such an interesting subject and the more I seem to learn about them the more I want to recreate them with felt and fabrics, the textures and colours are lovely to mimic and the level of detail I can achieve is something I’m constantly working on. (Plus moss is just so cool right??)
