thinking about logan aware that all his methods to be heard have failed so he decides to try what other sides do. so he shapeshifts as virgil to yell at thomas to do something and thomas listens because he always listens to virgil, specially if he yells. so logan immediately disappears back to his room relieved that at least now thomas is doing whatever he needed him to do but then.

janus arrives necause of course janus knows what logan did and tries to confront him about it but also does it while speaking in his funny sarcastic way that has logan just confused about what he's trying to say. and while this is happening virgil also figures out that someone pretended to be him and he assumes it was janus so he goes looking for him and finds him in logan's room.

so virgil begins yelling at janus for pretending to be him, janus just avoids all accusations without saying what really happening and logan is just. stuck there in the middle of the argument. maybe at some point logan confesses that it was him and virgil is confused but insists on blaming janus somehow and janus keeps defending himself and just the concept of diguising and lying in general and logan can't even speak.

so logan has to scream at them to shut up and be like "if i wanted to stand here being ignored, i would have shown up just like i usually do" you know like what virgil said in accepting anxiety when they went to his room. and there's something funny about logan still copying virgil to express himself, showing that the logic has sealed in his mind that this method works.

and virgil and janus just know this and know that this means logan is going to hide his true self under an even bigger shell that's just going to become harder to break. and neither knows what to do and also they hate each other but like. who else is going to help logan if not them?

-still deciding on where exactly darkclans territory and camp will be, either in an alleyway or in a dilapidated house/greenhouse... either way theyre very close to thomas's house! -speaking of thomas, he is the owner of the 4 cats that make up lightclan! -they arent reeeally a clan, being made up of kittypets and all, its basically just them roleplaying -this makes darkclan really mad -"erm, why are these KITTYPETS pretending to have the hard life of a WARRIOR" -even though they themselves r basically just rogues and also have a kittypet for their healer. theyre just petty -rattlestar does NOT have 9 lives no matter how much she says she does -also, her warrior name was rattleshade! (probably... this is subject to change if i ever think of a better one) -virgil (warrior name a wip, probably gonna have something to do with storms and spiders), used to be a member of darkclan, before being adopted by thomas -the cloak rattlestar wears used to be virgils :(

-thomas has tried several times to befriend roadkill and rattlestar, to no avail -he is also just very confused as to why it seems that his cats and those strays seem to have a very personal beef. he swears he sees them arguing -yes he is still allergic to cats here. its funny

-roadkill has HELLA fleas and ticks -as such, he must sleep on the couch (in a seperate nest from rattle) 😔 one like equals one flea and tick medication for roadkill

Hello, I would be So Interested to hear about your tma/sasi fic ideas

One that’s been rotating in my mind for a While is the sides in the fearpocalypse. Like a chapter for each of them, maybe in the style of the tma s5 statements, also an epilogue of some sort for after the world is saved so some sort of happy ending. But mostly just pure angst

Another is an AU where Virgil is the Archivist and Janus is the Distortion (well Janus is Helen and Remus is Michael but focus is on Janus). Again, mostly angst. I’ve wanted to write something exploring Helen’s arc for a while so this would kinda be that? (Also Martin would be Patton bc ofc)

I think those are the only rly fleshed-out ones? There’s a sides-as-avatars one I said I would do a while back, the post that inspired that is where I got desolation!Roman and eye!Patton, but I can’t find the post for the life of me and I don’t remember much else about it

Also stranger!Roman made me wanna write that but idk how to rly turn it into a full fic idea

so youve done matilda, and the locked tomb. any other books series youd be interested in doing sasi crossovers with and why? personally im a huge fan of the idea of a night circus crossover, though the characters would be hard to match directly. i just think the vibes are great

I'm not familiar with the Night Circus, although just looking at the summary I can't help but agree. And honestly I think it's more fun when you don't match characters one-to-one while doing fusions and crossovers, when you're trying hard to fit characters into certain molds you lose at lot about what makes them unique. and I say this as someone who's fallen into that trap a bit while writing the Locked Tomb AU.

ANYWAY that wasn't the question.

Right at the top of the list is Dracula, because I've always wanted to do an epistolary and I've been feeling the urge to try my hand at some vampire nonsense for a while now. This is the most likely to actually happen.

Series of Unfortunate Events and/or All The Wrong Questions (the prequel series by the same author) - Lemony Snicket has such a fun, distinctive narrative voice, and the world is surreal and weird in a way that I think I'd enjoy playing around in. Having the Baudelaires move in with long-lost uncle Thomas would be nice and fun too as a concept. ('that isn't patton! that's clearly count olaf pretending to be janus pretending to be patton!')

Not precisely a crossover, but I really want to do a fic that cribs the vibes and atmosphere of Madeleine L'engle's Kairos/O'Keefe series for a long loooong time. I actually have a typed-out typewritten first few pages of something like this, although it ended up getting massively revised into Syzygy (and I haven't touched it since because it feels like it would be a bit too similar for my liking)

also, Jantigone got me really thinking about playscripts and adapting various plays through the lens of these characters - I really, really enjoyed doing it, and if I ever get my brain hooked on another old play the way I did with Antigone, I may have to do it again.

i kinda wanna talk abt what that anon was saying with people adding non-side characters into fanworks and how that could be connected to other analyses of the fanbase (i haven’t been here as long as u have though so mb there’s some stuff idk abt)

for me it’s symptomatic of the way this fanbase treats the characters in general- they like. boil them down to one simple trait, one little personality thing that becomes how they’re viewed in fanon. so like patton is just sweet/innocent/stupid, but all other aspects of who he is, what he does, etc are kinda they out the window.

people add characters like picani and sleep even though they’ve had no canon overlap with the sides because their fanon personalities are simple enough to imagine with the sides. this fanbase ignores canon events so often that they can just like. add characters in and it feels the same to them

by making them into these one-note characters, it’s easy to imagine them interacting with one another as if they are from the same series because they’re so one dimensional and shallow in fanon. they can basically be made into whatever you want them to

i just think it kinda says something abt the way this fanbase warps it’s characters beyond recognition tht you can straight up just add these guys in and it doesn’t change the dynamic much, it doesn’t seem super out of place, and they’re just kinda. there

I do agree that people boil down the sides into one specific trait & dont have any nuance to their character, however every fandom has crossover AUs. Every fandom boils characters down to their characters into one specific trait. I don't feel like there's anything to discuss there, because if I wanted to talk about how fandoms function as a whole, I'd just talk about that. But I don't want to. I want to talk specifically about the SaSi fandom and how it correlates to the series.

There's a difference between

"the series is about morally greyness and how there is no 'good' or 'bad' in the world, but the fanbase completely ignores that to treat the sides one-dimensionally" (and because of the lack of content and large stretches of time)

&

"the fanbase creates crossover AUs, like every other fanbase, and tends to make the characters one dimensional to fit them into the AU"

Every fandom has the same issues, but it's very interesting when it comes to SaSi specifically, because they are actively ignoring the lesson in Sanders Sides. It's the same with the Undertale fandom. People were actively ignoring the point of the story to make a child out to be the villain, because they couldn't comprehend, or want, the idea that it was them/the player who was fault

(also, it's less the one dimensional thing, & more that they are all creations of Thomas. People are adding in shorts characters and cartoon therapy characters because it's all by the same creator. I'm sure it's also because their fanon identities are so shallow it's easy to imagine them interacting, but that's not the main reason why it's done. It's done out of love for the other creations Thomas has.)

8. What project(s) are you currently working on?

I think a better question would be what Aren’t I working on lmao. My brain is a rotating carousel of fandoms, and right now we’re looking towards Minecraft Diaries! This means what is plaguing my brain is a full blown rewrite because canon is uuuuuh. Questionable and essentially abandoned! Which means everyone in the fandom agrees on one thing and that thing is “We can do it better.”

22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?

Because I write nearly exclusively one shots, yes? Kind of? Sometimes? It. Is a case by case basis really.

Like I have a Be More Chill one shot where Brooke and Michael bond over having Hanahaki, I. Have absolutely no idea where it would go after The Conflict happens. I know what ships I was aiming for setting sail with but that is most Ending I have for it.

Meanwhile I have a Fantasy High one shot where Fabian dies and the whole thing was going to be the Bad Kids having to adjust to being assigned a new party member and ending with him finally being accepted as a Bad Kid because they can accept that’s not disgracing Fabian’s status as a Bad Kid. And well since we’re talking about planned events I want to give a shout-out to my SaSi LAMP soulmate AU and because it truly is just self indulgent daydream fodder I change up core plot points All The Time it’s great it’s fun no I do not know how it ends I barely know how it starts. And that is my true writing method.

OKAY but since my new interest is science illustration have you considered???? LOGAN?? as a science illustrator??? you know going around drawing plants and animals with the most perfect detail making sure to capture all the defining features of the species??

and the creativities being like “why don’t you add some sick dragon wings/fire/horns/spikes/etc” and logan getting mad at them because that’s not what the organism looks like!! so he just keeps mixing colors trying to get the exact shade of green for this little beetle’s wings’ iridescence??

Hello! I've been writing little stories for fun for a couple years now and I've recently come up with a AU-ish fic for Sanders Sides that I'm debating putting on Ao3. Thing is, I've only gone on Ao3 to read fics, never to publish one and I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any tips and tricks (how to plan it out, things to remember, etc.) for someone looking to share their work with the world? (PS I love your work, ALiP got me into SaSi ficwriting! Keep being an amazing, inspiring person!)

I’ve kept this for a few days to think over but I didn’t come up with anything too special. 

When you go to upload a chapter/post a story, it defaults to HTML but there’s a button to switch to Rich Text. 

You have to find your own way to plan a story. For every chapter, I post the plot points I want to happen in bullet points and then start the chapter, making sure I didn’t miss anything. (I personally put these in order I want them mentioned in the chapter) but if I change a point, I edit it or move it to another chapter.

I personally mentally plan out a chapter before I ever sit down and write it. I can even go through scenes in my head to get details down beforehand. I’m positive this won’t work for many people.

I’m personally a fan of “don’t rush forward” and making sure I don’t just give information after information with no time to process what’s happening. I wait for comments to see if I have to explain more things for people to understand more. This works well to make my characters feel like people.

I think a hard part for people is the commitment to take on a big project. (I don’t think passed the next chapter often for this reason, tho I have plot for it figured out, I’m willing to change any of it if I get better ideas.) 

I’ve been writing for years and know how my writing works, it’s a matter of figuring out what works for you. You might have to ask other people of none of this works. Good luck <3

Ooh okay, so I have about a billion AUs churning around in my head, but one of the most notable ones I want to do is a Princess and the Popstar sanders sides au, which sounds really weird, but hear me out: Virgil as Tori, a price who wants nothing more than to be free, and Roman as Keira, a world famous popstar who dreams of living as a prince.

huehuehuehuehue, okay here is a snippet from my SaSi Dance AU! It's taking a long time to write because I want to do it justice, but here is a small piece:

Janus's smile reminded Roman of the cheshire cat. "In all honesty though- yes, yes, I know that's surprising coming from me- but congratulations. You deserve it."

Roman jolted forward in surprise. "You really think so?"

Janus raised an eyebrow. "When have I ever lied to you?"

Roman could only stare.

"Fine," Janus raised a hand in mock surrender. "Maybe I've lied once or twice."

"Or a thousand times," Roman muttered, but there was no real animosity behind his words.

Janus chose to ignore the comment.

"Psst, kiddos, hate to break up this bromance, but class is starting."

Janus and Roman made identical sounds of annoyance.

"I'm only one year younger than you!" Roman protested at the same time Janus said dryly,

"I'm one year older than you, Patton."

i read your rants from last night and it’s got me thinking of that Character Desert effect I used to think of SaSi as. And how shit like demonizing a character comes because of its small cast. And honestly, it’s not even that the cast is small. 7 main characters (9 if you throw in Picani and Remy/Sleep, 8 if you take out Thomas as most do) is a decent selection! The issue is less that and more jist. The ratio of protagonists to antagonists. Because that’s a whopping 7:0 since the antagonist of SaSi is Social Situations Gone Wrong. There’s also the fact there’s only really three side characters (Lee, Mary Lee, and Nico. Once again you can fluff it up a bit if you add Cartoon Therapy but the fact people fluff it with CT is kind of a sign of the “problem”) and all of those side characters also kind of suffer from the same issue Thomas does which leads to him being omitted, they’re all full people. They’re not facets like the Sides, there’s no side characters that exist on the same plane as the Sides (why do CT characters not get this treatment? Probably because they’re pulled out in AUs where the sides are no longer facets. Why does Thomas not get the same treatment? I Don’t Know.) and there never will be because if anyone is existing on their plane that ratio turns into 8:0. ANYWAY I feel like I’ve gotten off track so Uh. Here’s the my hypothesis. Demonizing of characters seems happen because there’s no one good to demonize. There’s no villain or shitty side character (or even a NEUTRAL side character). When people want to create a work with a shitty character doing shitty things, they’ve got limited options. Either throw a name down and say That’s Them or demonize/antagonize a character. And then tk take it one step further, when choosing which character to demonize/antagonize theres a couple routes it can go. You choose based on which character is this antagonist is supposed to be shitty to (ex. When giving Virgil a bitch of an ex boyfriend, most would be inclined to pick Janus or Remus because of the whole Dark Sides connection in canon), you pick based on the type of shitty actions the shitty character is doing (ex. You want a judgmental jock bully? Roman can fit!), or you just. Plain pick who you don’t fucking like. (ex. Unsympth vs Sympth Deceit may that discourse rest in fucking hell I hated both sides) And just to. Cherry on top it. All of that demonizing and antagonizing will slowly bleed into people’s canon thoughts, because in this fandom fanon reigns supreme (and I personally think that’s not Inherently the fandom’s fault, the long ass hiatuses and inconsistent characterization in canon lends itself well to it) So sorry if this made. No sense. I woke up and scrolled my dash for a bit and then spent an hour rambling in your ask box so. Sorry.

being able to infantalise anxiety but not infantalise lying or intrusive thoughts. needing an antagonist because otherwise the story is much Deeper than it started out 2 be / thought 2 be. assuming mistakes = being evil. A small cast. Fanon VS canon. the poor writing & choices made throughout sasi. the target audience being children but the story has complex ideas. long stretches of time inbetween episodes.
