10. Airport/Travel AU

100. Accidentally Saving the Day

Okay so I don't have anything as detailed as my Fairytale AU for this but I will make up for it by providing two (2) options, none of which are the standard "meet in an airport after both of their flights are delayed and zuko ends up going to sokka's home instead of back to ozai"

One

Zuko and Sokka are seatmates on an economy class flight (it's economy so theyre squished in together). Zuko's a college freshman and has an assignment due for his mathematics gen-ed the next day. He was planning on using the in-flight wifi to look up his notes/wolfram-alpha/the solutions but since Zuko is the most unlucky dude in the universe, the in-flight wifi is down.

Lucky for Zuko, the high-school senior sitting next to him is a mathematical genius and saves the day (not sure if it counts as 'accidentally' but the day is saved nonetheless). Sokka really loves maths.

And, as a bonus, Sokka's flying to check out the campus since he's applying there next year. Meeting Zuko is enough to convince him to go.

Two

Ozai doesn't care about where his kids are 358 days in the year, but for one week they are required to go on vacation. This wouldn't be so bad, except Ozai always books a suite with two rooms - one for him and one for his kids. Zuko doesn't mind sharing with Azula, but a week sharing the same living space with Ozai is too damn much. And Ozai watches them both like a hawk.

Except this year the management of the hotel changed and the new manager, a handsome young man named Sokka, wasn't made aware of Ozai's recurring reservation. Sokka keeps his cool while Ozai berates him and threatens his job and offers the only thing he can - up to three separate, deluxe rooms for a discounted price. Ozai begrudgingly accepts. Zuko and Azula are overjoyed.

They both get to sneak out of their room and have a cute little romance with a member of the staff. Zuko obviously gets Sokka, not sure who Azula has her romance with in this. Maybe Ty Lee the bartender at the poolside bar.

Aw, Delphine!

1.) Today just started, so I’m going to answer for yesterday, and—it was a little rough, ngl. It’s not like I didn’t expect to be laid off, and I’m lucky enough to be in a place where I’m okay for now, financially, but man. Even more than the income loss, the loss of that sense of identity is tough. (Woo, capitalism, where the primary part of your identity is always your job!) It’s kinda hard to be a massage therapist when everyone’s staying six feet away from you, haha. Still, I’m trying to focus on other areas where I can do things for people and gain a sense of identity. Writing is looking like it’ll be a part of that, I posted a story the other day for the first time in months and I’m working on a commission for @screamingheads that I’m really excited about.

2.) Reading @blahblahblaharringrove‘s post about being wooed by a girl who loves jazz records! I adore Ty and I hope they do eventually get to meet this girl and the chemistry is amazing.

3.) If you mean in terms of “filling time”, I’ve been doing a few things. I’ve been using a daily self-care checklist to give myself some structure and keep from spiraling into anxiety—I’m both grateful and a little resentful at how well it’s working. CorePower has been posting some of their online yoga videos for free, which I’m grateful for—the Sculpt ones especially, though the only weights I have are 10-pounders so I’ve got a ways to go before I can get through an entire class with them, haha. And if you’ve been following me at all you’ve probably noticed I’ve been hyperfixating on The Lost Boys in a big way; I’m grateful I have this space to do so, and I’m making some new fandom friends!

4.) I’m not quarantined per se, but I’m under a stay-at-home order—yesterday Brian and I went to get groceries and that was the first time I’d left the house in days. As to accomplishments…I’m working hard on being less perfectionist in my writing. Which, tbh, is my constant struggle, but I feel like everything being so chaotic in the outside world is helping, in a weird way? Like, the world is so blatantly imperfect right now, who’s going to judge me if my contributions to it aren’t pristine and polished and finely combed?

Other than that…well, keeping up some kind of physical activity is important for my mental health. I’m kind of backsliding on guitar/music…not having in-person classes to practice for hasn’t been helping my motivation there. (That may also be depression about the world creeping in, too.) And I have the hardcover deluxe editions of the entire run of The Wicked & The Divine—and I still haven’t finished it! What better time to binge the whole series?

5.) I’m tempted to use one of my goofy Snapchat filter selfies, but I suspect the intention behind this is to foster camaraderie in how none of us look particularly put together right now (except the people for whom that’s important, of course—go you!).
