BG3 Tav Backstory Bash by Kelandrin

This is a challenge to help people flesh out their Tav's backstory by exploring their past. It is organized into four sections with seven prompts. I asked you guys who I should feature in this post and my girl Mythrae got the most votes! She is my first durge so she's a bit special to me and I'm very glad she was chosen :) some of these questions might have slightly alternate answers bc they don’t exactly fit in her timeline but I’m excited to participate either way! there are a couple triggering sections that have been labeled, so please read with caution!

Part One: Baby

Parent(s):

Being the child of Bhaal’s own flesh and blood, she is a Bhaalspawn. But as far as who raised her? Well, that would be none other than Lua’nna Helvitlar, a Seldarine drow wizard who fled from Menzoberranzen many years ago.

She fled the city and Lolth due to her brother’s wrongful death, and she found employment with Ramazith Firesinger in Baldur’s Gate.

Birth:

Not much is known about Mythrae’s birth, but in the year 1353, Lua’nna found her as an infant in the sewers of Baldur’s Gate with a piece of paper with just her name (yeah I did this with Salome too I’m unoriginal). Not wanting a drow child to get in the wrong hands and become a servant of Lolth, she rescued the infant and brought her home.

First Word/Tantrum/When They First Walked/First Sickness

Her first word was “mama,” which Lua’nna was overjoyed with. Definitely cried happy tears for hours on end.

She was a well-behaved toddler, who was also very inquisitive and ask a lot of questions. The tantrums she would have would usually be because she got an answer she didn’t like (ex. “Mummy, why can’t the sun stay up all day?” “Why does it get cold outside?”).

Mythrae took her first steps after living with Lu’anna for 10 months, while they were playing together. Lua’nna most definitely cried the rest of the day over it.

She got a cold when she was a toddler, and her mother was worried sick she would pass from her virus. She was sick for two weeks, but with Lua’nna’s thorough care, she made a full recovery.

Part Two: Childhood

Friends:

Mythrae was born with heterochromia (one grey eye and one red eye) and was bullied for it (also for being a drow — they have a bad rep on the surface after all), so it was hard to make friends in school. There was one other drow boy in her class, Kalandrin, who would defend her from these bullies. They became fast friends and stayed close even into their teenage years. (Kalandrin would become her dream visitor later down the line)

Siblings:

Mythrae did not have any other siblings, the only family she had was her adopted mother (and Bhaal plus his spawn ofc but it’s not like she knew that at the time)

Getting Into Trouble:

For the most part, Mythrae was a very well behaved child. But as she began to discover her affinity for magic, especially storm sorcery, she would sometimes pull pranks on Lua’nna that would result in her being punished (ex. putting a cloud over mom’s head and causing it to rain while she was in the garden, using a lightning bolt to help speed up cooking, etc). Sometimes she tried to do these out of a genuine desire to help around the house, but other times… not so much

Birthday:

Though Lua’nna doesn’t know Mythrae’s actual birthday, they celebrate her “gotcha” day on the 7th of Eleasis (equivalent of August in Earth months)

Games/Learning Something New:

Mythrae wasn’t huge on games (unless it was something thought-provoking like chess lol)

Being an inquisitive child, she enjoyed school and learning. Lua’nna, being a studious wizard, helped Mythrae with her schoolwork and also taught her about the many intricacies of magic. She also taught her about the history of drow, which was left out of schoolbooks, because she did not want her child to fall down the wrong path and become a servant of Lolth.

Trauma:

In her dreams (or night terrors?), a large skeleton head or ghastly creature would visit her and tell her to kill everyone she knows and anyone that gets in her way, for her father’s sake. These visions scared her greatly, and made it hard for her to want to fall asleep. Usually, Lua’nna would have to sleep in the same bed as her so that Mythrae felt safe.

Part Three: Teenager

First Love:

Over the years, Mythrae developed deep feelings for Kalandrin. Looking back, she suspected he may have felt similar feelings for her, but they never acted on them and thus were never romantically involved. But they were very close, and they even got matching tattoos on their face and neck.

Rebellion/Running Away:

Not long after her thirteenth birthday, the nightmares consuming her were all too powerful, affecting her mood and thought process. She became very anxious that these urges would soon take over, and she would hole herself in her room, away from others. Sometimes she would find herself arguing with Lua’nna, too afraid to confide in her about the visions she was having. This did drive a wedge in their mother/daughter relationship, and Lua’nna tried to chalk it up to typical teenaged hormones.

Otherwise, there wasn’t any specific rebellion or running away that she would do.

Reckless Behavior:

One fateful night, the urges finally took over and she had her first killing spree. First, she stabbed Lua’nna to death while she was sleeping in her bed. She then left their house in the Upper City, electrocuting any passerby that crossed her path. She snuck into Kalandrin’s house by climbing into his bedroom window. She had planned to stab him as well, yet he was awake in his room, reading a book. He thought that she was finally confessing her love for him, but instead, she cut his head off, keeping it as a prize for herself.

Her urge faded as she held Kalandrin’s head in her hands. Appalled by the grotesque scene, she quickly dropped his head, fleeing his bedroom as fast as she could. She didn’t stop running until she was at the docks of the Grey Harbor, debating whether or not she should let herself drown for her crime.

Peer Pressure:

While she was debating whether she should jump into the harbor, Sceleritas Fel arrived, telling Mythrae that everything would be fine, that she was destined to become a cold-blooded killer for her father, Bhaal. He pressured her away from committing suicide, and instead, starting her life anew in the Temple of Bhaal. Knowing that her reputation would be tarnished come morning if she didn’t go with him, she accepted, following him back into the sewers where her mother found her so many years ago.

Taking Responsibility:

In a way, Mythrae never publicly took responsibility for the lives she took that night. If anything, she was encouraged to continue her slaughtering, which she did to please Bhaal. But internally, she knew that she had wronged them — and so many people after — and she hated herself for it. She secretly wished for her old life back, and that her urges could fade away into nothing.

Part Four: Adulthood

BEFORE THE NAUTILOUD…

Serious Relationships:

Her first and only serious relationship was with Lord Enver Gortash, who had approached her about hatching a plan between the Chosen of the Dead Three. He had a charm about him that immediately drew her in, and they fell for each other quite quickly while working together to enslave the Elder Brain. He had even proposed to her with a ring she wore throughout most of the game events.

Their “First Time”:

Mythrae has pledged herself to celibacy until Bhaal instructed her to sire a new Bhaalspawn, originally planned to be with Gortash. However, Orin had disguised herself as the Chosen of Bane and attacked Mythrae, taking her virginity in the Temple of Bhaal before knocking her unconscious with her blade.

Work:

Up until Orin had attacked her, Mythrae was the leader of the Church of Bhaal, acting as the High Priestess over the congregation, preaching her father's word and leading various rituals.

Leaving Home:

A bit unique for Mythrae, considering it wasn’t her choice to leave home in the first place. She had no intention of ever leaving Baldur’s Gate or the Temple of Bhaal. So, when she woke up on the Nautiloud flying through the Hells, she knew something wasn’t right and that (at bare minimum) she was not meant to be here.

Aging:

Mythrae never really gave much of a thought to her age. She was young for an elf (around 139), and since elves can live for hundreds of years past that, she knew she had plenty of time to live a full life (devoted to Bhaal).

Finding Your Place

Mythrae was made to believe that the Temple of Bhaal was her place. That she would spend the rest of her days here, following every command her father gave to her. Thought she thought that maybe, just maybe, she was destined to do more with her life.

Starting A Family (Found or Otherwise)

She found family with the other Bhaalspawn in the Temple, however, her relationship with her siblings was very strained. They all wanted to be their father's favorite, especially Orin, who did not think Mythrae was worthy of her title.

Of course, she had planned to have Gortash as her husband when he became Archduke of Baldur's Gate so they could rule together, and also produce as many Bhaalspawn as father desired. Then, Mythrae was to kill Gortash, and become the rightful ruler of the city.

DURING GAME/AFTER THE ELDER BRAIN…

Serious Relationships:

After she escaped the Nautiloud, Mythrae didn't even give any thought to a potential serious relationship, as she was just trying to survive. However, she and Astarion grew very close, sharing similar traumas and feelings about the world. She didn't judge him for being a vampire, and he didn't judge her for the murderous urges, even after she tried to kill him. Their relationship further blossomed into a deep bond and they helped each other become better throughout their journey.

Their “First Time”:

Her first time (that wasn’t part of a planned attack) didn’t even happen until Act 3 with Astarion, after they had defeated Cazador for good. He had tried to seduce her before (Act 1 romance scene), but the trauma of her previous attack prevented her from moving forward, which the memory of it was explicitly shown to Astarion via tadpole connection.

But by the time Cazador was defeated, both of them felt comfortable and ready to share their first time with each other at his gravestone (and it was great. might write about it someday)!

Work:

After she rejected Bhaal, Mythrae found herself with nowhere to go. So, she and Astarion begin life in the Underdark together as mercenaries for hire. With her powerful spells and his sharpshooter skills, they become infamous throughout the land, with some Lolth-sworn drow ending up on the hunt after them. But as long as they have each other, they’ll be more than happy.

Leaving Home:

It wasn’t the easiest decision, but Mythrae's biggest concern is Astarion living somewhere where he did not have to worry about the sun scorching his skin, so she told him that she would be willing to leave Baldur's Gate to be with him in the Underdark, where he would be safe.

Aging:

Nowadays, the thought of her aging comes up a bit more often. She knows that she can still live for hundreds of years with Astarion by her side, but at the same time, one day she will die, and he will live on without her. But she doesn't want him to think about it yet, so she tells herself it's a conversation they'll have further down the line.

Finding Your Place:

At first, Mythrae was cautious to move to the Underdark with Astarion, truth be told. Lua’nna had never taken her there, though she shared her stories of her adventures down there. The only time she had gone were with her other companions on the way to Baldur’s Gate, and it was… a bit much, truth be told. But with her love by her side, they are able to find a home to make their own, getting into the routine of mercenary work and traveling through the lands to find any vampires that might need their help.

Starting A Family (Found or Otherwise):

To her, the party members she’d grown so close to over so little time had become her found family. Sure, she and Astarion may not be able to see them as often as they’d like, but they continue to gather every six months so they can catch up on their lives and remember the good (and bad) times. Mythrae also kept correspondence with Gale often, as he is researching the cure for vampirism at Blackstaff Academy.

Mythrae and Astarion know the risks that having a dhampir child could bring and the potential of bringing about another Bhaalspawn to the world, so they decide to not have children. They do have a sphinx cat, named Fluffington, that they treat like their own child, though. They’re the kind of cat parents to dress their pet up in cute little outfits for holidays and festivals!

Headcanon Mythra Kid since we never see them in Xenoblade 3. This is Rex and Mythra's son Milton.

I worked on his design during downtime at work and after finishing the sketch, I ended up writing a full profile for him, covering his personality and relationships with other characters. It is quite long so be aware of that if you want to give it a read.

Initial sketches from work

Milton is a Half Human, Half Blade boy native to Leftheria. He resides in Fonsett Village and is the middle child among his siblings (Mio is the eldest, Glimmer is the youngest, they are all still very close age wise with each of their birthdays being within a period of a few weeks). He is 11 years old at the time of The Intersection. Milton's likes meat and art, with his favourite items being Miracle Parfait and the Board Game Sneak-Thief King.

Milton is a laid back kid who finds himself getting into the most trouble of Rex's kids. He's known for being a bit cheeky and is prone to messing with people, commonly throws out quips and sarcastic jabs at others. He doesn't mean any real harm with this and tries not to go too far with his taunting. Despite his smug and jovial attitude he cares a lot about people close to him, particularly his two half sisters. He does his best to help out where he can even if it's only a little bit. This has seen him compared to his dad a lot but he doesn't mind.

Being Half Blade, Milton has a higher sensitivity to ether and has the ability to manipulate it naturally, similar to High Entia, though he does still need to learn how to use these abilities, unlike a blade awakened from a Core Crystal. As Mythra's kid, he has a rare affinity for Light Type ether, something only a few blades have demonstrated. His favourite move is doing finger guns and shooting a beam of light.

Though he enjoys his ether abilities, he also likes to fight with a broadsword. To that end, Rex has given him a blunt wooden sword to train with along with the promise of a real blade weapon when he's older, if he practices enough.

Due to their closeness with Mio, Milton and Glimmer end up falling into the same friend group, leading them to be close friends with Sena, Taion and Miyabi, as well as the Kevesi side of the Ouroboros friend group, once they meet later down the line.

Relationships:

Rex:

As Milton's dad, Rex cares a lot about him and wants to keep him on the right path. He does his best to teach him and is incredibly proud of him, though he would like him to dial back the cockiness a little.

Milton greatly admires and respects his dad. While he can be a little stubborn with Pyra or Nia, he almost always listens to Rex. He picked up the salvager code from Rex and follows it in the same way.

Mythra:

Mythra is Milton's mother and absolutely adores him. She is known to dote on him a lot and is a little guilty of spoiling him and the other kids. She encourages his good nature and wants him to have fun when he can. When she's not helping Rex with the Garfont Mercenaries, she's helping Milton train with his sword and ether abilities.

While Milton can be a little embarrassed at his Mother's doting, he still loves her immensely. He also sees Mythra as a badass hero after hearing about her adventures with Rex and the rest during Xenoblade 2. Even after he learns about Mythra's many mistakes, namely in Torna, nothing could change his opinion on his mom.

Nia:

Nia is one of Milton stepmothers. Since Milton is the most physically active of the three kids, he's the one that comes to her the most for healing, usually for small things like cuts or a scraped knee. She tries to discourage him from asking healing with small things but finds it hard to turn him down. Nia is really endeared to Milton's jovial nature and finds herself laughing with him a lot.

Milton finds Nia to be the most fun of his four parents lt may be that Nia is where he picked up his sarcasm and quips from. As Nia becpmes more busy with her duties on the Origin project, Milton comes to miss her a lot and treasures the short amou t of time he gets to spend with her.

Pyra:

Pyra is Milton's other stepmother / aunt(?). She finds it endearing that he takes after Rex so much, but would prefer if he toned down his sarcasm and is usually the first to call him on his jabs if he starts pushing it.

While Milton does tend to be scolded by Pyra quite often, he usually admits to his faults even if he's a little hesitant sometimes. Despite this, he doesn't like upsetting Pyra and loves her a lot despite their arguments.

Dromarch:

While Dromarch is mainly loyal to Nia and Mio by extension, he still helps out with raising Milton and Glimmer. He is somewhat bewildered by Milton at times but he enjoys his energy and tries his best to passon his wisdom where possible.

While Milton respects Dromarch, he isn't often eager to hang around with him. Namely when it turns into some kind of lesson or lecture. Where Mio would listen attentively, Milton is easily bored and often misses what Dromarch is trying to teach.

Azurda:

Azurda acts much like a grandad to Milton and the other kids, telling stories and taking them on trips over the sea. Seeing Mythra with Milton in particular brings Azurda great joy as he can see how far Mythra has come due to knowing her since Torna.

Milton thinks it's really cool that he has a giant Titan for a grandad. He loves when Azurda and Rex take him flying over the sea and the land, getting a bird's view of the reformed Alrest and later the lands of Bionis and Mechonis. Like Rex, Milton affectionately refers to Azurda as Gramps.

Mio:

Mio is Milton's older sister. She doesn't take much notice of Milton's teasing, often teasing him back in most cases. It's only later down thevline when he starts teasing her about Noah that he gets much of a reaction from her. Despite this she holds a lot of affection for her younger brother.

Despite the teasing, Milton has a lot of love for his big sister and always has her back. He sees Mio in a similar way to Rex and aspires to be like her. He sees her compassion and resilience as some of her best qualities though he'd rarely say that to her face.

Glimmer:

As Milton's younger sister, she tends to get more teasing than Mio. It may also be because Milton can get more of a rise from her. The two end up bickering a lot with Mio often being the mediator before the parents get involved. Though they care about each other deep down, they'd rarely show it.

Sena:

Sena and Milton have been friends almost as long as she's known Mio. The two are good friends and bond over their training, often doing so together. They often push each other as neither are prone to backing down from challenges. Milton has a small crush on Sena and finds her cute, but he never really pursues it as he finds she doesn't feel the same way.

Taion:

Taion and Milton butt heads a lot. Taion thinks Milton is too thick headed and jovial for his own good. He has called him a simpleton on at least one occasion. Milton thinks he's a bit of a nerd who should lighten up a bit.

Miyabi:

Milton and Miyabi are good friends. Whole Milton's outgoing and friendly nature is a contrast to Miyabi's introversion, they get along well. Miyabi feels more at ease around her friends and often is more open about her interests with them. Milton her fun to listen when she starts rambling about her interests when she opens up about them.

Noah:

Milton makes fun of Noah a lot for being "Mio's boyfriend", often trying to embarass Mio in front of him as well. Despite the jokes, he does genuinely like Noah, as he sees that he's a good guy who makes Mio happy. At times he tries to play wingman for Noah, not realising it's not really necessary given the unique relationship between Noah and Mio. Noah doesn't mind Milton's jabs for the most part and appreciates his attempts to help him out.

Lanz:

Lanz and Milton hit ot off quickly. Both being friends with Sena and a mutual interest in training leads them to bond quickly, establishing a brotherly bond. With Sena they form a trio of muscle heads.

Eunie:

Eunie and Milton are an endless loop sarcastic quips and jabs at each other. Forever throwing jokes at each other's expense back and forth. The endless sarcasm.

Joran:

Milton thinks Joran is cool and tries to get him to come out of his shell. He really likes Joran's taste for creative pieces, such as his carvings and encourages him to keep at it, which is something Joran appreciates.

pairing: mythra x gn!reader

a/n: this was so fun to write, i love my girl mythra <3

mythra is a very clingy and touchy girlfriend – but only in private!

she can be quite mean to you in front of others, but behind closed doors she's super cuddly and affectionate

she doesn't like showing her affectionate side to anyone but you and it's bad enough that pyra knows about it!

but she really didn't need her whole friend group to find out about it as well…

the two of you had snuck away to get some alone time, without telling anyone about it

you didn't want to draw attention to yourselves, but now everyone had started looking for you, when they couldn't find you

mythra was sitting on your lap, her arms wrapped around your upper body and her lips glued to yours, when suddenly the door swung open and rex entered the scene

“mythra, have you seen–” the urgency in his voice disappeared as soon as he saw you underneath mythra. “a-ah… f-found them–!”

rex turned away quickly, clearly uncomfortable to have caught the two of you like this. and he knew that if he didn't leave soon, mythra would likely kill him for this…

but as he closed the door behind him, you and mythra could hear your friends outside, asking rex about you and if you were okay

“y/n is in there, we don't need to keep looking!” rex told them, trying to keep things vague and move on

“in there… with mythra?” you two heard from outside, your cheeks turning red as you listened to your friends discuss what they thought was going on inside mythra's room, until she snapped!

“WE'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING INSIDE HERE! MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS OR I SWEAR TO THE ARCHITECT, I–”

How does Pit interact with Zelda, Pyra, and Mythra? Does he spend a lot of time with any of them, and what do they think of him?

Pit struggles to imagine the concept of multiple gods being tied to the same concept (i.e. the goddesses Hylia and Palutena both being tied to light and order), especially since Thanatos is so... particular when it comes to the title of "god of death" vs "lord of the underworld". That said, he gets along rather well with Zelda, both bonding over their devotion to their particular deities.

Pit often clashes with Mythra due to her colder disposition, but they do have moments of getting along. In general, Mythra works better with Dark Pit.

Pit and Pyra get along a LOT better. They often like to cook together as well. (This... doesn't exactly turn out the best.)

Pit's attitude towards Lucina is very similar to his attitude toward Mythra: Lucina is a lot colder and more serious than he is, so he struggles to vibe with her much, or at all. He found out pretty quickly why Viridi likes her sense of humor: the few jokes Lucina tells are on the dark or gruesome side.

Twitter will never get over XC2 discourse... real Endless Now moment. The latest discourse being about whether Rex can be in a poly relationship.

I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents because it feels like everyone on Twitter is being ridiculous right now, no matter which side they're taking.

As someone who is happy with the Rex polycule and disagrees with the crowd saying it's dumb or "cringy", I think it is perfectly reasonable for Skye, especially as Pyra and Mythra's VA, to have this headcanon. People harassing her over it need to shut up, because at the end of the day it's her own damn opinion.

That said, yes, her calling Pyra and Mythra "her" characters and implying her opinions are better than the writers/directors is weird. Even if she doesn't agree with them, she doesn't have ultimate authority over their characters just because she voiced them. Her voice certainly brought the characters to life and I believe she understands them deeply, but that doesn't mean she's right about everything related to them.

Again, she still doesn't deserve harassment for it! It's all just a pointless discussion when there are much better topics to focus on, especially after the DLC had so much juicy info. Let Xenoblade 2 discourse rest.

Henry: Very respected and looked up to… many students are intimidated but many also wanna approach him cause of business or his wealth so he is quite a popular student among NRC Brid: Many just assume... that Odel is the dorm leader and ignore her... she can't seem to get authority and people barely remember her She really struggles with that Barry: Many people are aware of his arrogance and to many students he is a bother, there is a few who do give him the time and popularity because he basically bought them to be his underlings but aside that… many are annoyed Osyron and Lydia: Hella scary to many students, they barely see the gods and if don't know if talking to them won't get them in trouble. Kuze: Many students see him as the junior, the Dorm leader that doesn't seem like one and instinctly would approach Yasuno more about dorm stuff… so he is liked but not really respected Erena: Given most see her as a chaotic adventurer other students also are not convinced untill she talks with them and you see how much charisma she has as a dorm leader and how to win her over well... She just wants fun and is a capable fighter in itself Flynn: As said he has a fanclub and many admirers but that is also true for Nanoya and Rubina, many know about his sketchyness and warn not to reveal too much to him. Peko: A lot of fans and big popularity among many students hence haters are quickly silenced… or at least yelled at by supporters… however higher year students often know how lazy as dorm leader she is and admire Emma more Tyler: Not many outside the dorm see him much but they often call him grumpy and many also just don't want to face his anger so he is only approached by people who know him, dorm members or fashionable to model students Gabrielle: Many Students admire her and cheer for her, also has a small fanclub and is highly respected among the campus. Its really hard to raise a voice against her. Aiden: Aside doing his dorm duty a loner and avoided cause of his criminal record, only dorm members really approach him… and some Exodus students cause of Kayne as well as some Valhunny students Sindren: Some are annoyed by the hero act, others admire her, some try to gain her favour cause of her money but Mythra shoes those away Dragiselle: the most secluded Dorm leader… Inessa does most of her task so not many met her, serves a similar Role to Malleus that not many have seen her at all... but in her case its protect others from her powers
