"I assume that you already know what it is that you are holding in your hand, Mr. Black," Hermione said, hoping to seem respectful for the moment. She obviously didn't have her wand at the moment, so that meant that she was somewhat at their mercy for the moment. And she remembered Sirius saying for all his faults, his father was still an exemplary wizard, with a suspicious mind.

"A time turner," he answered, his lips quirked in curiosity, highlighting the thin black mustache across his upper lip.

"So that should surely answer at least some of your questions about where I've come from," she explained, looking between the two of them. "I'll ask again. What year is it?" She wished that she'd spent more time exploring the Black family tree. At least then she'd have a better idea of when Walburga and Orion had died, so she wouldn't be quite so dependent on them.

The married couple looked between each other, having a silent conversation with one another. Finally, Orion returned his attention to her. "It is 1977," he answered.

"19—fuck," Hermione whispered under her breath. She had never imagined traveling back nearly two decades through time. In fact, time travel of that length was not even theoretically possible! Everyone who had attempted it had never been seen again, on account of not being able to move forward in time.

"Oh, just...leave me alone, you brute!" she hissed, picking up the nearest object she had, which was, unfortunately, a book. She wound her arm back and hurled it at him, hitting him square in the face before he could stop it.

When the book fell, he didn't even look mad, just surprised. "Do that again," he insisted, looking at her with his head cocked to one side, like he was a confused dog.

It had felt good to get a bit of her anger out so Hermione summoned the book and hurled it at him again. This time, when the book made contact, his nose was bleeding, but he didn't seem to mind one bit.

"Well, Merlin's staff!" he said, pulling out the chair across the table from her. "What's your name?"

"Hermione Granger," she replied, tersely, wondering just what had put him in such a good mood all of sudden. Maybe he had a concussion?

"You're the mud- muggleborn. Sorry," he said, noticing her level glare. "That's a Chaser's arm you've got there," he complimented.

"Chaser?" she asked, feeling confused.

"Yeah, Chaser. Like Quidditch? Have you played before?" he asked, figuring that she probably hadn't, being a muggleborn and all. "How did you get so good at throwing things?"

As a first year, Hermione is sorted into Slytherin. Hogwarts is horrible for her at first, until a chance meeting in the library with Slytherin chaser, Marcus Flint. After seeing her arm, Marcus takes her under his wing, determined to have the best players for Slytherin's Quidditch squad, muggleborn or not.

Who initiated the relationship? Who kissed who first?  When did they realize they were in love?

Tom most definitely initiated the relationship. At first, he sought out to use her bright mind to aid him in his ambitious plans by befriending her, but he slowly began to realize that she could never be a friend or a follower. Hermione Granger with her swotty attitude and conviction is so much more than that. 

HOWEVER, Tom likes to plan things out. He’s meticulous and has plans for almost everything. So, he tried to plan out their first kiss and make it romantic because he heard that’s what witches like. Hermione, who has been waiting forever for Tom to make the first move, decided that she had had enough and kissed him squarely on the lips after rounds during their sixth year. 

Tom realized that he was in love with Hermione when one morning during breakfast, she didn’t show up. He became very worried and thought that something happened to her, only to discover that she had fallen asleep in the library the night before revising for the upcoming exams. Hermione realized that she was in love with Tom when she went to Hogsmeade without Tom for the first time in years. She kept turning around to say something to her usually silent companion only to remember that she was alone. After doing this for the eighth time, Hermione returned back to the castle in search of Tom.

Kudos to you! Honestly, I don’t think I could ever do that �� I don’t know why, but it makes me intensely nervous, even though writing fanfic is a big part of my life. It seems weird not to share it with people who care about me, but I just can’t seem to open up. Maybe someday!

I always felt a bit hypocritical taking the stance that we shouldn't be embarrassed by our fic writing when none of my non-fandom friends knew, but it was more because I wanted to dramatically be all, “I have written a book!  What, like it’s hard?” when they didn’t even know I was writing anything.

On the topic of tomione: which fics do you think had the right "feel," or what do you think current fics are missing?

In no time do I guarantee that it's a fair assessment, that's how I feel. First, I don't think time travel is being explored as it should. I think it's already so predictable and boring, there are some nuances that vary but overall it's the same. There are a few, that I can think of for sure two, in which Hermione is literally reborn as another person and given the opportunity to live a new life. In general, you don't find fanfics like this. There are some in the asoiaf fandom (rare truly), as I said, I've seen some in the HP fandom, definitely less than 4. It's not exclusive to the HP fandom, and I'm not sure what to call it other than non-growth. It's a non-growth of ideas, a stagnation, I don't know how to explain it. There are definitely some good new ideas in there, but sometimes they are few, sometimes badly written. There is definitely a decrease in the number of new fanfics, the second fandom page on AO3 is already at the beginning of the month of November, I can think of a time when there was more than one fanfic created per day.

The growing number of fanfics Voldemort wins AU bothers me because it is plated Anti-Muggle Content, which implies rape and nasty stuff that my person doesn't read and won't. Which also doesn't mean I prefer Modern Mugggle AU, I just don't like of a universe where a shell of Tom rules with cruelty.

I thought a lot about how to answer this to understand my feelings and came to the conclusion that I don't trust anymore. I no longer trust that I will be reading something good. I'm so tired of a one-faceted Hermione. I'm so tired of not knowing how enemies to lovers will end, because I find it so difficult to find a balance between the two. Most of these fanfics have a tragic and not very convincing ending on one side.

Let's not talk about how much side pairing there is besides tomione, usually with other characters, I always see dramione. Has the love triangle fairy hit this fandom? I hate. Sometimes it's not even a crack fic and there are I don't know how many pairings with Hermione!

As much as I looked at the tag again to try to explain to you how I feel, I can only think "wrong" "wrong". Most synopses are "oh no, Hermione was dropped in the 40's, will she do the mission, kill the evil wizard or fall in love with him?" Nonsense.

Let me know if you don't find any. anyway, these are all from 2020 onwards. I suppose the thing they have in common is grey Hermione. I think that two years ago several writers were willing to write Hermione with more than one facet, one less moral, and I think that makes her relationship with Tom more fluid and healthier. Maybe the current enemies to lovers is too enemies.

I swear to you, there's no easy way to explain it, there's no "right" justification, it's a sum of factors. I have not proofread this text.
