you and alex have always been flirty with one another, but of course your twin brother jack never really liked that. alex is a good guy, so jack never comments on the fact you and alex are so clearly into each other. honestly, the only thing holding you and alex back from dating, is the fact that neither of you can see you’re interested in each other.

“guys i’m bored can we go ice skating” trevor speaks up, pausing the tv. “coach would kill us if we snuck in, plus how would we even get in?” cole says. “not that rink dummy! the public one. it’s only open for a couple more weeks and i really want to go” trevor states.

“trevor you do realize you can’t just go freely skating around, there’s little kids skating too you’ll like crash into them and crush them!” jack exclaims making everyone laugh, including trevor. “yes i know that dingbat” trevor rolls his eyes chucking a throw pillow from the recliner at jack.

“i think we should go!” alex says, removing his head from your shoulder. “yeah you guys can go, i’m staying here.” you state, snuggling closer into the blanket you and alex are sharing. “what why? you’re coming with us, i don’t make the rules” alex shrugs. “shes like, really bad at skating” jack chuckles, earning an elbow in the rib from you. “YOU WHAT? YOU CANT SKATE?” trevor laughs, pointing a finger at you. “shut up zegras!” you blush hiding your face in the blanket from embarrassment.

“you’re telling me, y/n hughes, the sister to three hockey player brothers, doesn’t know how to ice skate?!” cole chuckles. “shut up cole! you’re 5’7 don’t even speak!” “i’m still taller than you” he shrugs. “yeah see this is why i think you guys should go and i’ll stay here” you smile, reaching for the remote. unfortunately jack gets to it before you, and snatches it off of the table. “you’re coming with us, go get changed out of your sweats” jack says as he pushes you off the couch gently. “ugh you guys are annoying” you roll your eyes as you get up to walk to your room.

you change into flare leggings and a thick crewneck you stole from quinn. you walk back into the living room and see the guys putting on their shoes, and you do the same. “alright ready?” jack asks everyone, as he grabs his car keys. “i call shot gun!” trevor yells making everyone groan. “i deserve shot gun! it’s my car too!” you roll your eyes. “oh you’ll be fine in the back with coley and turcs” “you’re sitting in the middle by the way.” cole smiles at you as he pats your shoulder before running into the garage.

the drive to the rink consists of you on aux playing your favorite songs, as you all scream the lyrics. you and alex’s song comes on, and you both start singing in each others faces, pretending your hands are microphones. out of the corner of your eye, you see cole, trevor, and jack all share glances at each other with smirks on their lips, but you just shrug it off. once you guys arrive at the rink trevor is quick to scurry over to get his skates, leaving you four still walking over to the booth. “hurry up you slow pokes!” trevor groans, making you all laugh.

obviously the boys get their skates on way faster than you, since you’re not one hundred percent sure if you’re tying them correctly. “y/n hurry up you’re so slow, i wanna go ice skating!” trevor whines like a child, making everyone laugh. “you guys go, i’ll tie her skates for her” alex says, as the other three boys share another sly glance, before nodding and getting onto the ice.

alex gets down onto one knee and begins tying your skates for you. “alex it looks like you’re proposing to me” you chuckle. “what if i am?” he laughs, making you laugh even harder. “m’lady, will you make me the happiest man alive and take my hand in marriage?” alex says in a horrible british accent. “oh alex, of course!” you say also in a horrible accent. you and alex catch your breath from the laughs, and alex finishes tying your skates for you.

“alright you ready?” he says as he holds out his hand for you to take as a guide for getting off of the bench. “alex i’m scared” you admit, a little embarrassed. “don’t be afraid, i got you. you can hold onto me, i’ll guide you” he smiles and you nod, as you interlock arms. he leads you both onto the ice and you immediately grab onto the wall. “let’s do one lap with you on the wall to get you used to the feeling, but i promise it’s so much easier without the wall” “alex i’m gonna bust my ass if i don’t use the wall!” you cry out. “no you won’t, i won’t let you fall i promise” he chuckles. you guys begin your lap as you’re still clinging onto the wall for dear life. trevor, jack, and cole are all chasing each other around the ice, lapping you and alex horrendously.

“aww look guys it’s little grandma y/n!” cole exclaims as he, trevor, and jack all slow down next to you guys skating at your guys’ same pace. “here alex i’ll take y/n for another lap, you go have fun for a second” trevor says. “hey he’s having fun with me!” you argue. “oh yeah definitely” jack says sarcastically. “i’m having plenty of fun don’t worry” alex reassures you, with a little chuckle. “cmon, let’s switch places man, go have some freedom” trevor says as he removes alex’s arm from yours and links his with yours.

the three boys skate away and trevor looks at you. “when are you gonna tell him, y/n” “tell him what?” you ask, genuinely confused. “we all know you like him, and it’s so obvious he likes you. why don’t you just tell him?” “it’s not that simple trevor. he’s one of my best friends, i don’t want to ruin that” “cmon, don’t be stupid, it won’t ruin anything.” trevor says nudging you, making you wobble. “trevor! you’re gonna make me fall!” you laugh.

“so alex, when are you gonna ask her out?” cole says. “what?” alex says, almost choking on air. “you heard the man, when are you gonna ask my sister out?” jack nudges alex’s shoulder. “uh, i don’t know? she doesn’t like me like that” alex says, making jack and cole burst out laughing. “you’re funny turcs” cole says. “i’m not joking?” “she’s whipped for you bud, she’s my twin i can tell. honestly everyone can tell, you guys act like a couple already anyways” jack says. “oh look, trevor’s about to make her bust her ass so i gotta go save her before the man kills her” alex excuses himself from the conversation.

alex comes back to help you skate, as trevor goes back over to the other two boys on the other end of the rink. “okay get off of the wall now, it’s been too long.” “alex i’m gonna fall!” “no you won’t i promise, take my hands” he says as you do what he says. alex suddenly starts spinning you around slowly and you start freaking out. “alex stop!” you laugh out of nervousness. suddenly he pulls you in closer to him, your head resting on his chest for safety. he rests his chin on top of yours, and suddenly says something that makes you feel like the only girl in the world.

“can i tell you something?” he says quietly. “yeah you can tell me anything al.” “i like you, a lot.” suddenly your heart begins to race. “you what?” “you heard me, y/n” “i like you too alex, i always have.” he lifts his head from yours, your guys’ hands still interlocked. “be my girlfriend?” he asks you, both of your cheeks tinted pink. “i’d love to” you smile. you guys don’t kiss due to all of the families and children around you, but he pulls you into a tight hug, kissing the top of your head.

I'll go with the Nutcracker - only bc of all of those ballet classes I took as a kid. Hey btw, have you ever seen the the Mark Morris version of the Nutcracker - The Hard Nut? It's one of my favorite versions of the ballet.

Going with soup - esp where I live. Love a good soup in the winter/fall. Faves: Tomato, Clam chowder (New England and Manhattan) Butternut Squash, Chicken and Dumplings

4.) Rollerblading or ice skating? 

I can do neither, but I like to watch ice skating. So lets go with that.

5.) Trains or planes?

I've only done short train rides and like them. Maybe that? It might be nice to try one of those travel by train/ sleepover night on one. I don't mind planes. No fear of flying - but ugh I do hate being stuck on a long non stop flight. I get antsy being stuck in my seat.

6.) Gloves or mittens?

Gloves.

7.) Opera or death metal music?

Opera

8.)Movies or TV shows? 

OK - that's hard. I can't choose! I love both formats

9.) Rice or pasta?

Again - Love both! - but I'll say rice as a 1st choice, pasta is a close second if I had to pick something from a menu.

10.) Fleece or flannel?

Fleece! Love my Fleece zip up jackets and fleece lined sweatpants when its cold!

11.) Tissues or handkerchiefs?

I like handkerchiefs but I use them only like for things like blotting sweat or make up or such ( does that make me sound like a Regency lady? 😂) Tissues are my preferred thing to use if I have a horrible cold.

12.)Piggy back or bridal style?

Piggy back. - for some reason I get paranoid someone might drop me being held bridal style. Piggy back I can hold on for dear life! 😂

13.) 'Italian' or 'Chinese' food?

Again - another example of how I love both. But will choose Chinese food first, because I'd never be able to turn down some bao or dumplings dim sum - god I love dim sum.

14.) Flying or teleporting?

Teleporting. Something amazing about just blipping from one place to another. Flying is cool though.

15.)Adopted or biological children?

No preference - I've got biological kids, but I'd love an adopted one as much as I loved the ones I popped out myself. Though at this time. No plans for any more kids. I'm DONE!

16.) Dragon or unicorn?

Dragon! I think because I like bright, shiny things to hoard. (I have a brooch collection that Kurt Hummel might envy - though none of its designer!) And they are also so powerful and beautiful.

17.) Picnic in the park or movie night at home? 

I'm going to say picnic during a movie night at home. Not a really big outdoorsy person. But the idea of spreading setting up a picnic inside is fun.

Sexuality Headcanon: Akira is either bisexual or just unlabeled sapphic to me, with an obvious femme-aligned preference because everyone in revue starlight does but I think lesbian for Akira is just too easy. she simply does not care since her standards are pretty solid and she's not super focused on romantic endeavors outside of roles. she can be a little aromantic spectrum as a treat, too!

Gender Headcanon: gosh i hate this question because it is like one of the things about akira i can never settle on in my mind. is she cisgender. is she gnc. is she transgender. is she masculine. is she feminine. is she both. neither. all. she's akira yukishiro. frau platin, king of the siegfeld institute of music. that's it

A ship I have with said character: I think the biggest one is definitely Akira and Michiru for me, but I have gained much appreciation for Akira and Hisame over the months as well................ i see the vision.

A BROTP I have with said character: Akira and any/all of the Edels, definitely! But that's a given, naturally. especially Shiori or Mei Fan, if we're not counting Michiru for shipping purposes. UM OH. Akira and Fumi!!!!! they're divorced (nudge nudge. your favorite) and they're both so goofy and gosh I love their dynamic so much. when they reconciled . oh my goddd. Akira and Seiran as a whole too, all three of them, but Koharu the most. again . if we're not counting Hisame for shipping purposes, but also in general I think the two of them [Koharu] can bond over so much, like Akira and Maya can, or how Maya and Koharu can. speaking of Maya, Akira and Maya!!! the ones from seisho I see the most bonding with Akira actually would be Maya, Karen and Junna. Junna because of the funny new york stuff in stage plays specifically but even then. ALSO ARURU. BECAUSE I THINK IT'S SWEET AND SILLY.

A NOTP I have with said character: UHHH as always anything not appropriate. juniors, etc. I don't really vibe with Akira and Yachiyo? as anything romantic. I don't think I really hate anything, most things I'm just indifferent towards. if anything, I mean I never understood Akira and Aruru romantically too much either, but I also think in a lot of ways it can be super cute? so idk! Akira and Shizuha maybe. shrug! I'll get back to you on that some other day

A random headcanon: Sun suggested one and I like it so I'll say it first, because Akira ice skates she'd probably be decent if not really good at roller skating, or alternatively she's really flat-out really bad at it for some reason. another one, because she loves horror media, she's really straight-faced watching horror movies and playing roles for plays that are meant to be scary or intimidating, and it makes people really nervous or freaks them out. she's really good at scaring, despite her secretly goofier nature. I'll throw in one more while I'm here, she's really good at flirting and making romantic gestures, but she rarely displays this behavior and it's a side of Akira virtually no one gets to see outside of roles, even future romantic partners.

General Opinion over said character: literally only good things!!! i said this in the rui part of this ask but i have so many comforts and favorites from the source i can't just choose my #1 favorite but akira is definitely up there in the characters of all time category. she has so many layers and i want to study each individual part under a microscope. she's so interesting. she's so silly and awkward. she's so serious and intimidating. she's so secretive. she's so heart on her sleeve. i love her puppy dog expressions in her live2d sprites i love every role she plays i love her singing voice. akira is just so cool!!! i know as mei fan and shiori i looked up to her a lot, i don't want this to be a mile long but she is just so everything, truly

A ship I have with said character: TAMAO AND RUI. FOREVER AND EVER. but also Rui and Yuyuko when it's Fumi and Tamao, I've seen Rui and Shiori and while I don't actively ship it myself because I have others with Shiori that are important to me, I find it to be extremely adorable and 100% can get behind this. love is love

A BROTP I have with said character: anyone from rinmeikan, and mostly yuyuko! I also super love love love the friendship she has with Shiori it makes me so stupidly happy, and all of her interactions with others in her bond stories too! I said this in the Mei Fan one ages ago but 100% I think Rui and Mei Fan would have lots to discuss and relate on, ie: their genderisms, their fighting abilities in acting and how they both reflect/differ, plus their intense admiration for their senpais and partners, etc! and of course, it goes without saying but definitely her relationships with the Chasing Sirius squad, that being Tamao/Kaoruko/Futaba, and especially Kaoruko and Futaba if we count Tamao as something romantic. we love you rui my friend rui

A NOTP I have with said character: same as always, nothing weird nothing gross. there are a lot of characters I don't see working out with Rui like Maya, Claudine, Akira, most of frontier and seiran, etc, but they're not like worth mentioning here. mostly Kaoruko/Futaba if anything, and Fumi too of course. these are all just personal though!

A random headcanon: she's the gentlest giant in the whole wide world but she unintentionally scares everyone in the dorms because she will silently just stand in the hallways or doorways especially because she's too nervous to speak up and get someone's attention until it's too late and they see her or her shadow and freak out. also also she helps tamao with the garden and is always accidentally crushing the flowers or is too gentle and doesn't pack enough dirt around them. tamao of course thinks it's sweet and is never upset but will fix them when rui isn't looking after praising her for a job well done anyway, rui will even tend to the garden when tamao can't and it's usually then that she doesn't 'mess up' -- likely because tamao. isn't there

General Opinion over said character: WAWHAWHAHWHAGHAHGHHGHGHJFGG. ONE OF MY FAVORIEST EVERS. I love everyone in revstar soooo so so so much everyone is a comfort character but if you held me at gunpoint to give you my top 3 characters I would probably have to say Yachiyo, Rui, and uhhhh uhhhh uhhhh um. um. never mind this is way too difficult . but uhhh!!! Rui Rui Rui I love Rui Akikaze so so much, I am so very endlessly proud of her and every development she's had since the beginning of starira's story especially arcana onwards. she's done so much for herself and for those around her, she's really grown into such a beautiful person. Don't worry...or at least not about Shoma. I know y'all mean well but don't underestimate Shoma. It's his title to lose.

I am very confident that Shoma will win. 😊

Why? Look at Skate Canada, he wasn't exactly clean in either program and wasn't even judged that nicely (still questioning that UR on the 3A in the free) and he still safely won the competition. At Skate Canada he lacked some of his technical content and still scored higher than all the competitors he faces at NHK. Ok the others weren't completely clean either but - and this is important - none of them has Shoma's technical ability. Contrary to the other competitors he can allow mistakes to happen and still win. He has 5 quads and two 3As with if landed cleanly give him massive GOEs as well! The others have if at all 4 quads. None can compare in PCS either. His personal best scores top his rivals by far and even when he posted those scores for the free he still didn't skate a clean program, means there is still room for more points.

Let's look at the technical ability if the others: For the SP: Kazuki Tomono, Adam and Sota Yamamoto do two quads, but with lower BV than Shoma. Junhwan Cha and Matteo Rizzo do one quad. For the FS: Adam and Sota have 4 quads. Matteo and Kazuki Tomono have 3 quads. Junhwan Cha has 2 quads and a difficult Loop combo. So just from the technical content alone they can't win over Shoma unless Shoma bombs horribly, which I strongly doubt.

And another factor comes to play, sorry to say that but he also faces rather inconsistent skaters besides Adam, who is making less mistakes than the others so far this season. I think at IdF (as sad as I was about it) you could see that neither Kazuki (😭) nor Sota were able to handle the pressure. Both looked fine in practice, but couldn't manage to deliver a good free skate. I don't see how in a competition where there is the GPF at stake there is less pressure for them.

I don't think Shoma is beatable even on a bad day and that's not blind fan love. Shoma may not be the most consistent skater either, but Shoma has still a better success rate on his quads in competition than all of his rivals.

Also Shoma has a good track record for NHK. He entered the NHK two times and he won two times comfortably. He is Japan's top skater and the current world champion and this should play into his favor too. Another advantage is that he doesn't have to travel far for the competition that he doesn't have to deal with timezone change or different food or whatever.

And btw Shoma only needs a 4th place finish to get to the GPF (same for Adam btw) that should make him rather relaxed for the competition compared to the others who obviously know what technical content Shoma can deliver, so know that Shoma likely wins and see their chances of qualifying for the GPF being slim even if they medal.

(I would say all other previous GP medalists are rather on the same level. I would say Adam is a bit ahead as he showed very good results at IdF, but not by much.)

Tbh the one I mostly worry about is Kazuki. He really hardly ever gets it together when it counts. And I am very sad that probably neither of Jun and Kazuki who I root next to Shoma with all my heart will make it to the GPF...*sigh*

You're so sweet! You might also be happy to know that I am also working on your request for Rin and Charlie to visit Shayne and have a sleepover at the Aldridges' (I even hinted at it in the last sick Charlie fic). It's just that lots of different ideas keep hitting me and my brain wants me to incorporate all of them lol

As requested, some tidbits:

Charlie's niece's full name is Isabelle Waters-Nowak.

Charlie has five aunts/uncles on his father's side (Simon, Greg, Jane, Mary Claire, Frances) and only one uncle (Graham) on his mother's side. He's closest with Graham because his grandfather (Ingrid and Graham's dad, Benjamin) lived with them for a little while and Graham would often come over to visit them all.

Charlie has eleven cousins, all on Trevor's side; Lucy*, Frank, and Gina (Jane's kids), Stephanie and May (Mary Claire's kids), Tara and Gray (Simon's kids), and Katie, Philip, Jessica, and Nathaniel (Greg's kids). Charlie is the oldest out of all them with, with about six years between him and the next-eldest. (*Not the same Lucy as Lucyverse.)

(Is it obvious that I drew out Charlie's family tree? 🙃)

Madelyn never legally changed Shayne's name to Devine, but even after he finds this out from Ryan, he decides to keep the name anyway.

Shayne continues getting motion sick on public transport, which he has to deal with a lot when Felix is travelling abroad and he has to take the bus to get to the nursing home to see Trish.

Rin doesn't get along with Autumn when Claudette first introduces them. They don't actively hate each other or argue a lot, but neither of them can get a good read on the other. Rin also feels a bit envious over how close Claudette and Autumn are, and how long they've known each other. Deep down, she resents the fact that she's had to abandon 90% of the friendships she's put time and effort into over the past ten years, because they all turned out to be toxic.

As well as spending time with the Pride Society, Rin takes up roller skating and hip hop dancing in college.

Elliott starts writing a detective novel in his free time. He's too embarrassed to let anyone read it as a work-in-progress, but he finds the process therapeutic. He bases a lot of his characters off of people he knew in the past.

Elliott thinks a lot about cutting off and donating his hair, especially when summer arrives.

Elliott used to ride a motorbike before he and Felix started dating. He once brought his bike and "kidnapped" Shayne from school once, while Ryan was visiting Madelyn. They went to a forest (not Mulberry), Elliott did some hunting, and they just kind of hung out. It was one of the last times they saw each other before losing contact for a few years.

(I've been trying to think of something for Felix but the guy wears his heart on his sleeve and I can't think of anything hidden or secret about him right now lol)

CW: mention of disordered eating and body dysmorphia past this point.

Mitsuko has dealt with disordered eating her whole life, in so small part due to her older sister's attitude towards food and appearance. She's been doing well for a while before she meets Bastian.

Mitsuko very often experiences body dysmorphia though, which Bastian thinks is just her messing around when they first start hanging out, but he eventually realises she believes the things she says about herself and it just breaks his heart.

Bastian is covered in tattoos. Some of them have religious symbolism, because he chose them at a time in his life where religion was a big deal, and while he isn't sure he believes in them anymore, he still accepts them as part of who he is. Physically, at least.

Mitsuko loves roller coasters. Bastian hates them because they make him feel so sick. But he's a sucker for her, so he goes on them anyway.

Bastian finds it hard to be civilised around Yumi, knowing how bad she makes Mitsuko feels about food and her body, and it's been the cause of arguments (between him and Mitsuko) on several occasions.

After he eventually finds out that Mitsuko can shift into wolf form, he gives her the pet name "Puppy", which she hates* (i.e. *gets very flustered by and feels very cute afterwards).

plot points i want to make happen:

- each participating country does a segment where they introduce their culture to the world and the audience turnout is low but its by far the best content they put out. im gonna say this idea was dictated to them by their brand manager (felipe) since it actually works. lili does an on the street segment at her house and is like let me teach u about the allemania dialect 🥺🥺🥺

- someone asks alfred questions about idk the cia or fbi or makes jokes about his military industrial complex. tries to get him to say Epstein Didn't Kill Himself perhaps. and hes like laughing it off at first but is like yo cut the cameras fr im serious right now. and the bit tht i want this to become is that ppl fucking hate the usa online and on the surface it looks like alfred isnt prepared to get trolled and chimps out but hes trying to prevent himself/randoms watching their content from getting kidnapped by the men in black or something equally fucked up. but he looks like a clown about it and he loses so many followers and he cries. btw hes rarely there in the first place cuz hes a busy dude

- this takes place during summer and several of them start going to a local skate park to blow off steam. none of them know how to skate but for my own selfishness im going to say that alfred has a board at his beach house they start off sharing it. it becomes a whole thing behind the scenes and they befriend local skater kids. and taiwan falls in love with a human sk8r grrl :))))))))) let me be crazy and say a second gen chinese-american sk8r grl who speaks mandarin in her mothers eras outdated slang and taiwan is like Yes. YESSS. and she teaches her to skate and mei braids her a flower crown and its really teenager and cringe. and then everyone goes back to school in sept and mei leaves LA forever :( and at some point theres an immortality reveal and its somewhat awkward

- ^ btw iceland is one of the only ones who doesn't learn to skate. its because hes been dragged to California in the Summer and is very susceptible to heat sickness. yes he is annoying and emo about this but kalung teaches him indoors and ... holds his waist for balance...... hey wait a second , ohh my god ive done it ive pieced it all together

Can we please stop conflating what happened at the ladies event with what happened at the men's event?

We all know scoring is fckd up in many ways but why do some conflate one with the other? What is the purpose? Sh*t on Nathan because he won with a strategy that didn't work for Trusova?

Funny how so many ppl say "oh figure skating is not only jumps" but the minute Sasha doesn't win with "only jumps" (and I personally take this as small victory for the sport) it's "but she has a much higher BV she should win with 5 quads"...I actually don't get it. I mean what is the point you want to make? Saying Nathan doesn't deserve his Gold medal, but at the same time Sasha deserves the Gold medal for the exact reason Nathan doesn't deserve it? Is it only me who thinks that this has no logic?

I know some ppl use the argument that Nathan won for saying why Sasha was upset that she didn't win and that's the reason she was angry because she knew it would have to work because it worked for Nathan, but that may be a reason to "justify" her way of thinking (I don't agree but I can comprehend the argument) but is this a reason to justify her winning?

Yeah I am also one to say that Nathan just like Sasha does not have much between the elements but tbh who doing 5 quads has? Nobody frankly. Yuzu has more but he is one of a kind (and not appreciated enough for this in scoring). Hence neither Nathan's nor Sasha's PCS should be as high.

BUT

There are some jarring differences between Men skating and Women skating and Nathan vs. Sasha in Beijing 2022 in particular:

First men are men and women are women, why do we compare two completely separate events? 🤷‍♀️

Nathan lead after his SP with 5 points over 2nd and 8 points over 3rd while Trusova was 6 points behind Anna in the SP > Sasha did indeed win the free skate, but couldn't pass the gap from the SP = she lost because of the SP, not on PCS alone

All of the men jump quads, so all of their programs (except for those like Jason who don't jump quads or Yuzu who is just so much better in this regard than everyone else) are considerably more empty than the ladies programs hence the difference in their PCS isn't as jarringly visible as Sasha vs. Anna and Kaori etc

Sasha contrary to Nathan never received the highest PCS while Nathan no matter if it's fair or not (it isn't!) got the highest PCS in many occasions before > Trusova was always trailing behind in PCS after Anna, Alena and now Kamila and even after skaters from other nations like Kaori and dare I say 70 PCS for Trusova when Wakaba had 69 PCS is a tragedy

Even if you give Nathan Sasha's PCS of around 88 in men factor instead of his 97, he still would have won btw

Anna had only clean jumping passes while Sasha had some mistake, so actually the GOEs made Anna come close in TES > hence Sasha's own performance costed her points, while Anna was foot perfect (at least according to the judges) and compared to Nathan: he didn't make mistakes to get negative GOEs, his skate was "perfect" in the eyes of the judges, so it's not the same situation

Nathan is known for consistently landing 5 quads vs. Sasha known for trying 5 quads but not suceeding

I am sure a perfect 5 quads free skate would have guaranteed Sasha the Gold medal like it guaranteed it for Nathan, but Sasha wasn't foot perfect like Nathan. And there comes another part to play Nathan was reigning and 3 time World Champion while Sasha has no titles to her name so far.

Their situations in general are just so different, you cannot really compare them.

So please refrain from involving Nathan in sh*t that is neither his fault nor where the situations are in any way comparable.

Quick I had another thought about the sk8 "breakup" again

And people brought up how Langa was there when Reki had that traumatic experience with ADAM and was rushed to the hospital

(Btw this is gonna be my personal take on it. It's not meant to throw shade at anyone)

They say "How can Langa see that and not understand how Reki feels?" and some people wonder how he "conveniently forgot" or take it as proof that Langa must've "betrayed" Reki knowingly (which if you've seen my posts you know my stance on how it's a misunderstanding between the two)

But here's my thoughts on it

Already to an extent I think Langa is so fixated on his desire he doesn't realize or subconsciously throws aside what should be hints to what's happening with Reki, but I think why seeing the whole thing that traumatized Reki unfold didn't allow him to understand was because Langa didn't attach the reason for Reki's injuries to ADAM specifically, I think he attached it to skating

Langa himself just has this personal trait where he doesn't realize when he's putting himself in danger, or he doesn't care. The prospect of injuries aren't an issue for him, so he tends to react to an almost death or injury in the moment. Reki gave him his concerns about skating as a rookie, with his feet taped to the board, and Langa said it wouldn't be a problem. Langa taped his legs to the board again and had to bail just before ending up at the street. When he was fixated on learning to skate, he had no problem falling down and falling down before he could make basic tricks. While training now he pushes his limits to do high or crazy tricks often despite the risk. In the most recent episode, Joe had to slow him down because he was skating S at a dangerous speed, without regard for his or anyone else's safety.

Then there’s when Reki told Langa the story of his friend who quit skating after getting terribly injured

So, obviously when Reki fell and there was blood around his head, Langa cared. Langa cares about Reki and he definitely cared that his friend got so hurt.

But they've been known that racing S is dangerous, so I think while he did care, Langa saw Reki's injuries from the beef as "just the way it is".

People tend to assume their worldview is the same as everyone elses, and the characters in sk8 are no different. It wouldn't be surprising if Langa decided that the skater's experience is to compete for the thrill, go ahead no matter the danger, to always come back again after injury

I think it's likely that Langa assumed or hoped that Reki had the same experience as him, that losing to ADAM and getting so hurt just meant to Reki that he needed to just get right back up, get better, and try again

Sure, it definitely says something that up until the thing with ADAM, Reki accepted the risks of skating S in a beef, it should says something about how dangerous ADAM must be, but Langa hasn't been there to see all that. For the cues he did pick up on and the things Reki told him before the "breakup", he obviously knows Reki thinks ADAM is dangerous, but that's all he knows, and Langa doesn't know /why/ Reki thinks that

Could it be the injuries from Reki's beef with ADAM? But Reki's made it clear to Langa thus far that injuries are part of skating, and neither believe in quitting skating just because they got injured.

Could it be the dance or love hug? Dangerous, but it's part of the agreement to doing a beef on S though, alright. There are no rules on sabotage and doing that.

Reki's trauma is personal, and it's not something someone can easily just understand. Langa /saw/ the beef, but he wasn't /there/ and he wasn't Reki. He and Reki are different people, and naturally they respond to different situations differently.

So I think in Langa's eyes, he could not only not understand why Reki believes ADAM is dangerous, but he also couldn't understand /why/ Reki had the experience he did

Again, I'm fully on the stance that there wasn't a clear right or wrong. I believe there was a lot of miscommunication and hiding of feelings, as well of assumptions the other sees things the same way between Renga. They both being different people and having different experiences, even with the same situation is normal. There are things they both could've or should've done. Both are allowed to feel the way they feel about the whole situation, and it's allowed to be true that they both saw it differently. That being said, I'm not here for Reki or Langa slander

We need to remember that this situation was neither set up as a reason to get the cast to hate Langa or to show how he "undervalues" his friendship with Reki, nor a reason for us to think that Reki is unreasonable and angryat Langa for no reason

At the end of the day, Renga care a lot for each other, and they're different people with different experiences. The two of them need to learn how to communicate their feelings rather than bottling them up or assuming the other will "get it" or feel the same about any given thing

I think going forward Sk8 is gonna prove again and again how much they really do care for each other

Ice Skating Headcanons in Modern!AU

ICE SKATING DATE WITH COLT GRICE ══▸

So this is 100% Colt’s idea, neither of you have ever been ice skating before but he think’s it’s romantic so he’s excited to take you. Colt is all about romance even if it’s usually kinda cheesy romance stuff it’s his favorite thing. 

Colt shows up at your house and tells you he has a surprise and he’s super excited about it so of course you’re feeding off his excitement. He’s holding your hand and building everything up as he tells you how much he hopes you like his surprise. 

When you get to the Skating Rink he kinda rubs the back of his neck and gets a little weary because now he’s wondering if you actually like the idea of ice skating. He very quickly says that if you don’t like it you guys can do something different. He has a backup plan just in case you hate it. 

Of course even if you didn’t like it you could see how much he put into the idea and how excited he is about the whole thing so of course you’re going to enjoy it because he’s enjoying it and because you’re getting to spend time with your boyfriend.

So since you both are new to skating it ends up being kinda a mess. You’re both slipping all over the place and trying to skate as best you can but you both end up slipping and falling. 

You’re both giggling and laughing about it though so it’s worth the slipping, sliding and bruises you get from it. 

Colt does act like he knows what he’s doing and of course he doesn’t. You know that but you let him act like he does because he’s holding your hand and leading you both around the edge of the skating rink. 

It does lead to him pulling you down a few times but you love it and seeing him blush is totally worth it. 

In the end you two are just. super happy and end up having a great time. Neither of you spend too much time actually standing on the ice but you really did have the time of your life. 

ICE SKATING DATE WITH PORCO GALLIARD ══▸

Ice Skating with Porco is all your idea, it’s something you like to do so you want to spend time with your boyfriend doing something you like and this is the perfect idea to you. 

When you say you want to go Porco just stares at you and is kinda uninterested. He kinda grumbles about it being cold. But all you have to give him a look and he’s agreeing to it. He might act huffy but he can’t say no to you and honestly he’s happy to spend time with you. 

When you ask if Porco knows how to ice skate he says he does but you don’t know if he’s actually telling the truth or if he just wants to impress you. He does say quite a few things just to impress you, not that you mind. You think it’s cute that he wants to show off no matter how long you’ve been together. 

When you get there and get on the ice it’s VERY clear that Porco has never been ice skating before. He’s struggling to walk on the skates and as soon as he’s on the ice he’s slipping everywhere and ends up falling a few times. 

Still Porco says he knows what he’s doing and when you try to help him he shakes his head saying he does’t need help, that he’s got it. Eventually he gives in and grabs your hand with a red face and lets you guide him around. 

When he’s finally able to skate with you he has fun, he’s getting to hold your hand and holding you against him. He’s always good with physical things. He’s happiest when you are touching him. Plus you never leave each other’s side and he loves showing you off and being seen with you. 

Porco isn’t too fond of ice skating and you can tell but he says he’d do it again because it made you happy and he loves seeing you happy. He’s not excited that he wasn’t the best at it but he adores the smile you had when you were skating with him. 

And sometimes he does like being led around following you. Even if he’d never say it out loud you kinda already know how much of a softie he can be.

Chapter twenty three: “Bokuto Hates Goodbyes”

“Tendou is going to quit volleyball after graduating. He wants to go to Paris to work as a chocolatier” you said, never taking your eyes off him. You sighed again, trying to find the words to tell him. Bokuto noticed your pause and smiled at you waiting for you to reply. “And I... I'm going with him.”

Koutarou's smile faded, along with the hope in his heart. 

Silence took over the atmosphere. You were trying to look at Bokuto, but he kept his gaze on the snowy ground. Neither of you had opened your mouths to say anything. Maybe because the correct words did not exist to express what you were feeling at that moment; you, remorse, and Bokuto didn't even know what to feel. Sadness, melancholy, happiness because you are going to fulfill your dream... fear of being forgotten. 

So many things to say, feel, live. 

“Why?” he asked, still with his gaze on the floor.

“Why…?”  you lashed several times. “Because I want to be a baker, fulfill my dream and my grandmother's... It's what I want, Kou.”

Koutarou started to shake his head from side to side, his hands over his hair. 

“Yes I know, but Paris?”  Bokuto looked at you for the first time, his eyes filling with tears. “That's like a million miles away!”

The snow kept falling on you two and the cold seemed to increase, but neither appeared to notice. The moment seemed eternal: Bokuto's tears that still did not come out, the imminent farewell, the silence that still continued ...

“We can continue to be friends, Koutarou, you shouldn't worry” the Owl turned to the opposite side of the school, and started walking away quickly. “Bokuto! Bokuto!” there was still no response on his part. “Koutarou, wait!”

Even though in his mind Bokuto had planned not to return, hearing his name come out of your mouth once more, he stopped short. He quickly turned to see you, your nose was red from the cold, and smoke came out every time you spoke when you apologized to him.”

“I don't want to be friends” shouted Bokuto looking straight into your eyes, with a tear rolling on his cheek. “I do not want you to go! W-we're just getting to know each other! It's not fair.”

Bokuto pouted while still staring at you. 

“We still have time, I won't be leaving for another month,” you said, but you knew it wasn't enough time. Not even a thousand years would be. “We'll talk on the phone!”

Promises that were very difficult to keep. Even if you wanted to, with the exams that would be shortly, and then in the cooking academy, it would be impossible to maintain much contact. You didn't know if you could even keep it with Emiko and Wakatoshi.

“Don't say things that later won't be true,” Bokuto said for the last time, wiping the tears that fell from his eyes. “Bye, y/n.”

And in a last act of desperation, you grabbed Koutarou by the wrist and then grabbed his coat tightly, then brought your lips together with his. 

After a few seconds, the light of a flash interrupted you.

“I'm sorry?” Emiko said with a nervous little smile. She had taken a picture of you kissing, and now she was slowly walking away so she could escape your creepy gaze. “I better go, haha. Byeee.”

Again the silence had taken over the environment. But this time, Bokuto's face was completely changed. His cheeks were flushed and he had a big smile on his lips.

“You like me too?” he asked suddenly. 

And even though you were speechless, you were able to whisper a little “yes”. Bokuto without warning held you with his arms, hugging you, and then started jumping up and down several times.

“Wait, we were fighting two minutes ago,” he said, making an angry face, but then his true colors showed and he started laughing. “Hey Hey hey! It no longer matters, we must take advantage of every second. Get ready, y/n, I'll come tomorrow at nine in the morning! Well maybe not that early, but I'll come before lunch!”

And here was another example where you could see the captain of Fukurodani change his mood quickly.

You said goodbye and you entered the academy again, thinking about how to assassinate Emiko. 

Tomorrow would be the last day you would see Bokuto in a long time.

And maybe forever.

Just as Koutarou had said the night before, at eleven in the morning he was at Shiratorizawa's gate, waiting for you to come out. It was not as early as he would have liked, but he had also arrived very late at the hotel, so he needed to sleep as well. Even though you were already walking towards the exit, two people arrived before you.

“Hello, Bokuto-san,” Tendou greeted. “Let's get straight to the point, what are your intentions with the little y/n? Ushijima and I are not very convinced that you go out with her so often. You were too late last night, and now it's too early. I hope you are not doing strange things out there. This is not Tokyo, my friend.”

“He is not your friend, Tendou” Ushijima said in a whisper, with his deep voice.

“I know, best friend, but I want to intimidate him” Satori whispered back, but he didn't realize that Bokuto had heard everything. 

In the distance, you came walking next to Emiko. You had already forgiven her for last night's photo, although she still hadn't deleted it from Twitter, and had even put it as your profile picture for a few hours until you noticed and took it out. You can tell that Tsukasa almost ran out of roommates. 

“Hey, aren't those Satori and Wakatoshi talking to your boyfriend?” She asked you, pointing to your friends and the one who wasn't your boyfriend really.

“I'm going to kill them.”

You sped up your pace to get there as quickly as possible and avoid disaster before it happens. But to your surprise, when you got to where the three of them were, all you could hear was laughter. Yes, even Ushijima.

“What is happening here?” you asked, raising an eyebrow at Satori, who you thought was responsible for this situation. And as always, you were right.

“Oh, nothing, y/n. Just old friends remembering old times” said Tendou with a rather forced laugh. Then, Ushijima and Bokuto also began to laugh out loud, while Koutarou made a danger signal with his eyes, and Emiko watched the situation in disbelief.

“I think Koutarou and I should go now” and before any of your friends could say anything, you grabbed him by the sleeve of his jacket and trotted off to Miyagi's main park.

Behind you, you could hear Tendou's screams calling for you to come back, but you ignored them and kept walking quickly in front of Bokuto.

Arriving at the park you could see several children with their parents playing in the snow, despite not having snowed today, there was still a little snow on the trees and grass.

“Thanks for saving me, things were getting ugly there,” he said as he took your hand that was on his sleeve, to be holding hands normally. “I have bad news.”

More bad news? You didn't think you were going to be able to endure another misfortune this weekend. It seems that Bokuto noticed your desperate face and squeezed your hand tightly to encourage you.

“They have suspended my bus for tomorrow, they say there will be a snowstorm in the afternoon so they have changed the schedule.” Nothing went right for tragic volleyball lovers. “I'm leaving tonight, so we can't see each other tomorrow.”

The world fell at your feet. How could everything go wrong for you? A lot of drama has existed lately.

“And now what?” you asked him.

“We live in the moment!” and without saying anything else, Bokuto started to run towards the ice skating rink, never letting go of your hand. 

The ice was full of small children, who watched Koutarou every time he made a few meters and fell letting out a scream. The kids laughed at the Owl's exaggeration, causing him to make it even more dramatic to obtain more laughter. Every time you fell, Bokuto would rush to get up and ask you if you were okay, even if you were laughing at yourself and had not suffered any injuries.

After skating for half an hour or so, you decided to go for lunch because it was already quite late. You went to the same cafeteria that you had gone to the day before, and you ordered something warm since today's temperature was even colder than yesterday’s. 

At the end of lunch, Bokuto asked you to show him around the city, although there was not much to show as it was quite small compared to Tokyo. You showed him where Karasuno High was, but you didn't go there since it was relatively far from where you were. He took several photos and sent them to Akaashi, and then to his mother. 

The hours passed quickly, reaching the time of curfew, which meant that you had to go back to school, and Bokuto to his hotel to find his bags and go to the station. Unfortunately, you could not accompany him before his bus leaves. 

“It's time to say goodbye,” you told him once at the entrance of the academy. "Thanks for coming to visit me, Kou.”

Before saying something to you, Bokuto put his arms around you. This time neither of you were crying, nor were sad. You were happy for the time you spent together.

“Goodbye, y/n, I'm going to miss you” and with a lot of bravery in his heart, Koutarou brought his lips to yours one last time. 

“I promise to call you.”

And so, Bokuto Koutarou said goodbye with a sad smile, knowing that that promise was nothing more than an empty promise.

And that at the end of all, it would not be kept.

Maybe what you need is to have a blindfold on or have them wear one when it happens because for some reason you feel weird being watched. I heard that helps for some people. Sex with a partner is a two-way street. You want them to feel good too, right? Maybe that will help you set aside your worries if you shift the focus a little from you to them.

If you want to do this, you can. It's okay to laugh. It's okay for it to be not picture-perfect sexy. Sometimes you're about to get freaky and then shampoo gets in your eye and you flail under the showerhead for thirty seconds trying not to go blind (also based on real events, btw). Can still be a good time even if dumb shit happens and then it becomes a funny memory <3

For now, masturbate and get to know your body. Buy a dildo and work yourself up to it. Become familiar with your body so you can direct someone into doing what you like. Become sexually comfortable through self-pleasure and gain confidence that way. Find someone who just wants to make you feel good and be honest with them. hey, you seem to know your stuff, and I don't. What would have to happen for Shoma to get gold or silver over both/either Yuzuru and Nathan? Would the other two have to make mistakes or is it possible for him to get silver/gold even if they're clean? From his max possible scores in the FS it looks like he's closer to Nathan than even Yuzu (but I know Shoma isn't as consistent or gets scored as highly)... just wondering!

The maximum score from Shoma is indeed not that far away from Nathan and theoretically that means that he would be able to beat Nathan. But maximum scores are ofc something that won't happen at all. And realistically there is a difference in the way Nathan and Shoma are scored.

Shoma has a disadvantage in GOEs and PCS against Nathan and Yuzu even Yuma if we look at how the season was scored. But the possibility of higher PCS and GOEs is there. A clean skate is impressive and would certainly boost his PCS at least and GOEs at most. We saw what happened in the Team Event SP that he almost reached the calculated best score though he got a level 3 for his spin and steps. So an improvement in GOEs is definitely possible, but he doesn't get them for granted like Nathan or Yuzu/Yuma. (it's debatable whether it's right or wrongly awarded but that's not the point here) Another point against Shoma is obviously that he hasn't skated his free skate clean yet. Wouldn't it be the perfect time to do it now Shoma? 😜 And that he hasn't scored close to what Yuzu and Nathan already scored in this/past seasons.

I'd say a clean Nathan is unbeatable, just simply because his BV is super high and gives him a slight cussion over all his rivals. His GOEs and PCS are always very good unless he makes obvious mistakes. A clean Yuzu would also be hard to reach, but Shoma has an advantage in the BV that's why there is a chance he might place above him - at least in the free - when Shoma is clean and gets some better GOEs/PCS which depends on the judging panel. Though I still think a clean Yuzu and Nathan will likely place 1 and 2 and Shoma 3rd.

Of course mistakes may lead Shoma even to the win. The thing is it is a high stake competition and nerves will fly high. Completely clean was no male skater at the last Olympics in both segments, neither at the Olympics 2014. We all remember Nathan's SP disaster in 2018...can Nathan really skate clean two times? He hasn't so far this season. Neither has Shoma or Yuma. So in the end it will matter who makes less costly mistakes, though I would say Nathan is the one who could maybe even allow a mistake and still win. And overall it depends also a lot on the judges and technical panel. Some judges are more lenient towards some skaters than to others, so it also depends a lot on what judges prefer and what politics play a part behind the scene. And we should not forget that Nathan is a 3time world champion who only lost once im 4 years. Yuzu is the double Olympic champion and reigning National champion, this all can have influence in the scoring. It obviously should not have influence but it does.

In the end my predictions just give an impression of what scores are possible and who is able to fight for the medals.

A lot talking...😅 To answer your question in short if all skaters are clean a Silver medal for Shoma can happen depending on the judges GOEs/PCS in both segments. A Gold medal is imo impossible without mistakes from Nathan. A Bronze for Shoma should be granted barring a major breakdown.

Btw I think Nathan, Shoma and Yuzu should be close to each other, much closer than Nathan's scores atm imply. BV wise Shoma and Nathan have an edge over Yuzu, but Yuzu should receive the better PCS and GOEs and not only by little, but bigger margin because of his undenied quality. But that's sadly not how it is as USA made very sure to crown their champion sorry not sorry

If it were me judging I would have Yuzu, Shoma, Nathan as order...😊

Goldie's Adventures on the Moon - Day 2

Chapter 2: First signs of happiness 

When I had returned to my suite last night, I thought it'd be the worst night ever and I wouldn't get any minute of sleep! Well... I guess I judged that hotel too fast? For some reason, I woke up rather peacefully. At first, I was mad at Dad and Rhett for deserting me, but actually, I was the one who kept complaining and begging for 'some time off' - and yesterday, I just had 'some time off', so why wasn't I happy? Anyway... I also received a text message from Dad, which was like: "Hey honey, I and Rhett will be at the Lunar Market around 1 pm. So, why don't you also come and join us? I'm sure you'd find something you like!" Normally, they'd always bore me and I would never want to spend some time with them, but STRANGELY, I was actually pleased to read this and I felt like a little girl who had lost her father for many years and was happy about the news of him returning? When I arrived at the Lunar Market, I couldn't find Dad or Rhett - neither of them!

I went in every store they had there; not really wanting to buy stuff at all! I never felt so lonely; it was like I was lost in outer space and nobody could rescue me ... although they had left me just yesterday? It felt like eternity! But when I entered in the souvenir shop, my heart suddenly started to pound - it was that cute boy! He did notice me when I entered the shop and then... he winked at me...

"Hey, I recognize you... weren't you at the aquarium just yesterday?" I didn't answer, nor did I nod... or did any other gestures! "You... OK? You look like you... What happened... if I may ask?" ... I was so dazed and suddenly, I completely forgot about Dad and Rhett. I saw that my phone was ringing - it was Dad... and previously, there were five other missed phone calls from Dad.. and three from Rhett! For a minute or two, I felt happiness again! I knew it felt so good to be needed! Anyway, they asked me where I were and what I was up to - they said that they had already left the Lunar Market and had been waiting for me in the local bowling alley which also had a diner.

HOWEVER, when I arrived there... I wished I had never done that; they were just singing some weird karaoke songs and this time, I felt EMBARRASSMENT again for being with them! But luckily, Q wasn't around... which was GOOD!

We had lunch together again after such a long time! I think, that was the first time ever on the moon... when they ate, I wouldn't come.. or when I ate, they wouldn't come! But now, I started regretting it - they were talking about random stuff and I just didn't want to embarrass me any longer... so, I went outdoors!

"Hey, do you mind if I just join you? I love bowling!" "Yeah, sure! Bowling alone ain't fun.. so why not? Do you know any tricks? Show them off!"

I really loved bowling with her and got to talk to her a lot on that day; she was very talented and also very funny!

"Btw, we were talking about all kinds of stuff, but never really got to introduce ourselves, lmao! What's your name?" "We... kinda missed that indeed! It was nice to talk to you, though, I really enjoyed bowling with you! But yeah, I'm Goldie Hart! How about you?" "LOVE THAT! I'm Hua Ling - the girl with crazy anime hair and one earring. My mom owns that clothier/jewelry shop down the street, maybe you've seen me over there already." "Actually, I've never been there..." "Hey, let's meet there around 6 pm-ish? While I was chatting with this rather outgoing girl, Dad was kinda trying to copy some famous artists' dance moves - I can't tell whose... but the locals around there seemed to be amused, at least... they look amused in Rhett's snapshot?

He was in good mood, though! Dad would never go skating, but on that day, we REALLY went to a roller rink! It's funny since he'd never let me go roller skating back home, and here... he went roller skating himself! That was SOO fun! I screamed like a little girl! I was SO happy again after such a long time of grieving! 

I didn't want to upset Hua, though. So, I went to that little business which she runs with her mom... and to my surprise, Q as there as well? I... didn't see him when I first entered the little shop, and that made me feel so insecure again? I just... didn't understand whyy! Did I have bad kind of butterflies? Anyway... I randomly picked one of the qiapos they had (or kinomo? ... yeah, whether they called that stuff) and tried to disappear as fast as possible into one of the changing booths.

"Hahaha, why Goldie? You didn't even show me the clothing? What's wrong with you, lol? "*giggles Then... I also heard some other giggles beside hers! I... hoped Q didn't notice me and it's not his giggles? But I wasn't sure! I was afraid to even go out... but I had to. "Why were you hiding? Did you see someone? I was like: wait, whaat?!! What's going on? Did I miss something?" "I... just... no, not at all, lol!" "But hey, you look beautiful in that outfit!"

I looked around insecurely... but couldn't find Q anywhere, so he must have left, but still, it was bizarre him showing up... was he following me? Also, why did the cashier over there resemble Sadie Wilke from Widespot so much? I've seen her in another snapshot before... but this can't be her?! I mean, we'd have seen her when she travelled along... and it would absolutely make NO sense for her to travel to the moon every day, work here for some hours and then return to Widespot to run the General Store in my hometown! ... I just had to tell this Hua, she found it funny, though! Anyway, later on, I joined Dad and Rhett at the SkEye Observatory! I was very eager to try out these telescopes, since I had never used one before - I knew, that a fellow student back at home... well Woody had some of these in his home, but it'd be kinda weird to ask to use, so... I didn't bother to ask! Not to mention that his dad wouldn't have allowed me to use anyway.

I could tell, though, that Dad and Rhett weren't really into stargazing! I heard them yawning all the time... "Honey, do you mind if we leave you lonely for a minute or two? I think... i've seen a meteorite crashing downstairs!" "Fine Dad, I know you're bored and you just try to find an excuse to go to the bar downstairs!" "Yeah, that's exactly what I was about to say! But didn't want to... uhm... hurt your feelings..." "Just... leave me loney, I'll be alright!"

While I didn't know what they were up to downstairs, this snapshot didn't really surprise me! I just knew they'd be flirting... again! This time, I wasn't necessarily mad at them... not even at Dad for moving on too fast after Mom died? Anyway, my second day on the moon was a great success! It didn't start that well, but I made friends with some really good guys out there! Q's been so charming recently, but I never dared to... uhm ask whether he has a girlfriend... let alone boyfriend? I kinda felt ashamed to weep in front of him, what does he think of me now... after all of this? I was such a cry baby! But hold on, was it really him who was kinda... following me? Anyway, I've never been this shy before, I don't get this, I'm an OUTGOING girl! I've never struggled to talk to someone... so, what's wrong with Q? I think Hua's noticed that I had a crush on him? NOO, it's not a crush! It's just... well, I only find him cute, that's all!

For young men (Part 1)

In my latest lockdown induced depressive episode I have been meeting some new people online. They are all young, male, mostly heterosexual, very nice and extremely considerate. However, they also are often afraid becoming a burden, insecure in their appearance or social skills, and often struggling with mental health. Given this, they are also usually extremely afraid of never finding themselves having sex or getting into a meaningful relationship in the late stage neoliberal capitalist dystopia we find ourselves in. To be honest I didn’t understand them at first, especially their obsession with sex. But the more I am thinking about it, the more I realize that we are united in the same dynamic of seeing sex or love as magic verfication of... What?

Growing up, I used hookups as a way to prove to myself that I am worth something. I thought that my value was defined by men’s desire. I originally in writing this wanted to show my perspective from the other side of the same coin, but after realizing how much of an undertaking that would be, I decided to start with the two most common answers from men used as justification to why they think they won’t get laid. These are things I find will help these kinds of people out, but as a great thinker once said...

Foreword: Social factors

The average age of first intercourse has been rising in the US. Teenagers have less sex than ever before. These changes will affect you. In teen movies and shows charakters often experiment with sexuality before the age of 18. Everything else is played as an abnormality. If we compare ourselves to this misrepresentation of teenage sexuality, of course we seem like the losers.

“The proportion of young people who have had sexual intercourse increases rapidly as they age through adolescence”. It’s very likely, at least from my view, that you are just going to grow out of the awkward zone of wanting intimacy but not getting it. Just like you grew out of other things, such as bad musical taste or that one gaudy outfit. Don’t stress over this one specifically either.

Adolescence is weird for all of us. Even if your first encounter is after college, let’s be real here: having such a good thing in your own place without your parents looming or having to share your room with a roommate you barely know is so much better anyway.

The Ugly fuck too

A common answer to my question why they think that they will never have sex is that they are “unattractive”. The implication being, that sex is the prize for looking a certain way.

But is it? We are so used to the perfect, porn-ready bodies in the media that we forget that the Ugly fuck too. We never see the foldes of fat and skin, never see acne warriors or moles, never see people who actually look like us.

In the movie “The Parasite”, there is a scene where the husband of Gook Moon-gwang, the former housekeeper, is implied to have sex. (the clip, starts at 3:00) It gave me weird feelings of discomfort, as the illusion so stereotypically found on the silver screen was not present. These two characters are not pretty. They look old. She is fat and he is a balding skeleton. They are not special, and that’s okay.

Being fuckable does not equal beauty. Being fuckable does not equal beauty. It was a terrifying thought initially for someone like me who defined their value over beauty & their beauty as being fuckable. It might also be a scary thought for someone who doesn’t think that they deserve love and intimacy because of their looks. I promise you that you still deserve love! Sex did not cure my problems with my appearance, or the fact that I based my self-esteem on the way I look. It will not make you feel normal. It will not make you feel better, prove your worth or even give you more self esteem in the long term beyond the initial rush of dopamine. It is not a caravan to fulfillment.

Beauty is a concept that is based on exclusion. Allow yourself to feel the pain of being excluded, of not reaching the impossible beauty standards and the disadvantages that come with it. Allow yourself to feel the fear of not being “man enough” and be happy in spite of it.

“Patriarchal masculinity teaches us to control our pain, but it can block us from experiencing the grief that is part of a full life. Chasing pleasure and controlling pain is patriarchal. Opening ourselves up to joy and grief is to be fully human.”

”Those of us in that skinny nerd category are especially prone to thinking that we aren’t “man enough.” [..] But the more I talked to men, the more convinced I became that almost all men at some point in their lives don’t feel man enough. Even the men I thought were the “real men” were scared.

That’s not surprising. Masculinity in patriarchy—that is, masculinity in a system of institutionalized male dominance—trains men to be competitive, in pursuit of conquest, which leads to routine confrontation, with the goal of always being in control of oneself and others. But no matter how intensely competitive one is, no matter how complete the conquest, no matter how many successful confrontations, and no matter how much one stays in control—men are haunted by the fear that they aren’t man enough, that they can never stop proving their masculinity.” - Robert Jensen

Stop comparing your appearance to other men’s. Start talking and bonding with them over your undoubtably shared insecurities rooted in society’s relentless toxic masculinity. Unlearning the things you’ve been indoctrinated into since conception is damn hard. I am still in the middle of it personally, but I promise you it is worth it. It will improve not only your relationships with other men, but also with yourself and that one girl you’re pining after.

There are a ton of resources targeted at women about self acceptance, but not many for men. Robert Jenson comes from a tradition of critical men’s groups. Even though I don’t agree with him on everything, he manages to scare most men (especially the kind I mentioned in the first paragraph) to their core, but also improves their lives drastically with his kindness and radical ideas. I implore you to look him up, and try your best to keep an open mind.

The other most common answer  to the initial question was “being socially maladjusted”, implying that sex is something you earn by behaving a certain way. It is ingrained in the way we talk about love. “Deserving love” is the best example. Neither love nor sex is a product of work. Love and intimacy are a lot like sleep. It is a slow but unconscious process. You slowly work into it, with no idea of what comes next, and then, after an agonizingly long moment, you’re there. The fall is not often expected or easy, is always exhilarating, but never the product of conformity to anything except comfort with who you are.

I do acknowledge that social settings can be weird, existentially unsettling, and full of unseen complexities. This is especially true if you are neurodivergent and / or struggling with mental health.  Being neurodivergent or struggling with mental health goes against the impossible, hegemonically masculine standard of always being in controll. It’s a common cause behind feelings of emasculation. Disregard that feeling, and remember that you deserve love, no matter how manly you are or are not, no matter how you behave.

Learning social settings are lot like learning to skate. In the beginning you will be covered in bruises, but with enough effort, you will be better at it. The chance of mistakes will get lower, but never zero. You will always have awkward situations, but that doesn’t mean that you are bad at them. It just means that you have room to improve still. Maybe consider getting lessons or joining a skate crew.

We tend to hyperfocus on the accidents. Think about how many nice conversations you had over the internet, text or otherwise. I ask you to value them. Value these positive experiences, value your friendships and acquaintances, value the people supporting you, online and offline. We tend to hyperfocus on meaningfull longterm friendships, just like we hyperfocus on love. Value your social enviroment, value someone who just made you feel ok for a moment. You are socially adapted, because you have a social enviroment you feel comfortable in, where you have relationships with people. The depth of a relationship is not messured by time, nor by physical touch. Being mindful of your feelings for the people around you can make you realize that you are less alone than you thought.

Some Tips

If you want to make friends additionally to that, here are some tips from someone, who is bad at social clues:

Join a group with a common interest or struggle: Book clubs, activist groups, selfhelp groups, they are great settings to meet new people and you already have a topic to talk about :)

If you feel save about it: Being open about your issues can help other people adapt to you and understand you better - especially in early on in relationships.

People sitting at the bar or smoking outside are generally more open for conversation

Don’t be afraid of getting rejected: They don’t reject you, when they reject a conversation with you. The reasons people don’t want to talk to you is very diverse. Stay respectful and polite.

Don’t expect to much: No one owes you a long conversation. A smalltalk is perfectly fine.

Learn to make compliments casually and learn to compliments that aren’t based on appearance.

Find a common ground (politically, a interest ect.) and talk about it

Take a improv class, seriously TAKE A IMPROV CLASS! (there are online ones, and sometimes it’s even free)
