Oh man I've been low-key thinking about a prom thing for the academy... Mainly because I came across my prom pics and I remembered how slick I looked in that suit and how amazing my GF looked. She bought ME flowers can you believe it it was so amazing

Sorry this took ages I'm a very lazy man. Also, in an effort to keep this as gender neutral as possible, I didn't explicitly describe the reader's outfit. I left it up to your imagination though!!!

As a small apology for not putting the reader in a gown, I drew the friend group in their outfits for this. Can find that right here on my main blog!

Arven X GN Reader

The academy hosts a yearly ball, and champions have to participate. Unfortunately for Arven, his partner is a Champion, and forced him to come. He's not one for big social gatherings, but at least they're there to make it easier...

Reader is the SV protagonist, and is 18+. Same with Arven. Reader's appearance is left vague, and they have a Skeledirge. Reader is mentioned to be wearing something in their favorite color, and also mentions feeling overdressed at one point. Their clothing is not described other than that. Arven's outfit is explicitly described though.

Author's note: An interaction between Arven and the Champ gets a little spicy, but there's nothing explicit. Just wandering hands and making out. Not a smut, but just be aware of that!! Also background Penny/Nemona because I love them.

Arven had never been a fan of big gatherings. Too many people clumped together in one place, too much noise and clamor. It always overloaded his brain.

Today, though, he was putting that distaste aside for ____. The Academy was hosting a formal ball of sorts for it's students, and attendance was mandatory for the two Champion representatives. ____ was less than thrilled about this news, and had basically begged Arven to come with them.

What kind of boyfriend would he have been if he declined?

Arven was currently standing in front of the mirror in his dorm, anxiously fixing his lilac blazer. He owned a grand total of one formal outfit, and he worried over whether or not it suited him. He'd tied his hair up at ____'s request, though he was concerned the hairtie he'd used would snap.

"What do you think, Mabosstiff? Is this- nice enough? Fancy enough?" He asked his buddy without really thinking, looking at the Pokemon through the mirror. Mabosstiff lifted his head, tail thumping against the floor.

"Wuff!" He barked helpfully, standing up to trundle up to Arven. The trainer gave him a worried pat on the head, sighing mournfully.

"Thanks, bud... I am in way over my head." Arven huffed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He perked up when he heard a knock at the door, adjusting his jacket one more time before hustling to open it.

____ looked about as anxious as he was, continually fixing their hair even if it already looked nice.

"Oh- H-Hey." They cleared their throat, rubbing the back of their neck. "You look good with your hair up like that. Not that you don't always look good, but... It's nice to see both of your eyes."

"Thanks!" Arven mindlessly tried to hook his thumbs in pockets that weren't there. ____ was wearing an outfit that suited them perfectly, in a color he knew was their favorite - they looked absolutely stunning. He probably could've just stood there and stared for the rest of the night. "You- you look incredible. I mean that, by the way."

"Oh, you. I feel so overdressed, it's ridiculous..." ____'s tension seemed to die as they laughed, walking forward to wrap him in a tight hug he happily returned. "...I'm really nervous. I have to give a whole speech, and I am not looking forward to it."

"You'll do amazing, I know you will." He reassured them, pressing a feather-light kiss to their forehead. "You always do amazing."

____ sighed, lingering on the spot for a few moments longer before they released Arven. Their arm was still looped in his, though, keeping him close to them.

"Alright, I'm ready as I'll ever be. Let's go find Penny and Nemona." They sighed. Arven gave them a final reassuring squeeze before they went off together.

The Academy's halls were oddly empty, considering how many students it had - it seemed most had already flocked down to where the event was taking place. There were a few stragglers here and there, mostly students waiting to meet up with their friends.

"Nemona said she's in the plaza already... Damn, that probably means we have to do our big speeches soon." ____ huffed, nervously scrolling through their texts. "Oh, man... You know how I said I was ready earlier? I'm not. I'm definitely not. What if I stutter and screw up, or I lose my train of thought? This is in front of *everyone*!"

"Hey, hey, you'll be alright. You can handle anything - you saved the entire region from an ecological disaster. You ride around on the back of a legendary pokemon, and you caught pokemon that are complete enigmas AND made them your friends!" Arven paused to grab their face, squishing their cheeks in his palms. "One speech won't hurt you. It doesn't matter if you stutter or lose your train of thought, or forget what you wanted to say entirely. You are absolutely incredible."

The two trainers were silent for a long moment, before ____ sniffled. Arven panicked.

"Oh, I didn't mean to make you cry- please don't cry, I'm sorry!!" He wrapped them up in a hug, one they reciprocated shakily.

"You're too good to me!" ____ exclaimed dramatically, burying their face in his chest. "Ohhh, I don't mean to get so emotional!"

"Deep breaths, just settle... In and out." Arven ran a hand down their back in an attempt to soothe them. They went quiet after a minute or so, wiping away at their eyes.

"Okay, I'm okay. I'm alright." ____ seemed to be assuring themselves more than Arven, which he thought was a smart choice. He continued to hold them even after they made to pull away, keeping an arm around their shoulders. "I've got this. All I've gotta do is- is talk about how the Academy helped me."

"You can do it. If not for me, do it for Mabosstiff." Arven joked lightly, and ____ laughed along.

"Right. Do it for Mabosstiff... And Skeledirge." They nodded wisely, and he hummed in agreement. The couple finally made their way down to the plaza - the faculty had set up a rudimentary stage, evidently for the sole purpose of speeches. The rest of the school plaza was decorated with lights, which made the whole place look lovely. Students milled about with their Pokemon, and staff chatted amiably with eachother.

Arven spotted Penny near the foot of the stairs - she was more dressed up than he'd ever seen her before, wearing a pastel dress and a fluffy coat. It almost reminded him of her eeveelutions... She was probably inspired by them. Penny was standing next to Nemona, chatting with Giacomo, Mela, and Ortega. Nemona had her arm slung casually around Penny's shoulder, and Arven could see from here that Penny was redder than a fresh tomato.

"Hey! ____, Arven!" Nemona spotted them first, lighting up as she waved. The former leaders of Team Star parted ways with a quiet 'Hasta la vistar! ☆', and the four remaining students met in the middle. "You both look great! Oh, ____, are you ready for-"

"The speeches we have to give." ____ groaned, prompting Nemona to scuff their shoulder playfully.

"You'll be fiiiine! It isn't the end of the world!" Nemona beamed, making Penny chortle.

"I dunno, talking in front of a lot of people is kind of the worst thing EVER." Penny gave ____ a sympathetic little shrug. "Talking in front of a few people sucks almost as bad, though."

"You get it." ____ sighed, slumping against Arven. "You both look great, by the way."

"Beat me to it." Nemona joked. Arven finally took the time to see what she was wearing - a deep maroon suit, much like his, with a bright red bowtie and a simple white dress shirt. She seemed to forgo wearing the jacket, wearing it like a cape over her shoulders... It reminded him vaguely of the Galarian champion, what was his name? Penny probably knew. "I helped Penny pick out her stuff - she didn't have anything to wear!"

"I wasn't planning on coming til you invited me." Penny huffed, though she didn't look upset. Before anybody else could talk, both ____ and Nemona's phones pinged.

"Ope - it's time! Come on, let's get it over with so we can have our Academy Double Date! Even if I'd prefer it be a Double BATTLE...." Nemona's voice trailed off as she grabbed ____ by the wrist and dragged them off. Arven gave their hand a final squeeze before they followed along, a final 'good luck.'

"Alright, Pipsqueak, let's find somewhere to watch." Arven adjusted his coat again, though it really didn't need adjusting. He made his way towards the gathering crowd, but Penny stopped him.

"Somewhere I can actually see from, ideally, you Big Lunk." Penny scolded, jabbing a finger over her shoulder towards the makeshift stage. There was an area off to the side that was less populated, and wouldn't require Penny needing to crane her neck to see what was happening.

The pair weaved through the crowds, finally finding a good spot to watch. It was close enough for them to actually hear, but far enough to not get surrounded by other students.

____ and Nemona were up on stage, quietly chatting to Director Clavell. Nemona seemed eager to do her speech, but Arven guessed based on ____'s expression that they were up first. Indeed, they stepped up to the microphone, briefly checking if it was actually on.

The crowd began to quiet as ____ cleared their throat, and soon enough all eyes were on them.

"... It's been almost a year now since I moved to Paldea. Next week, actually, marks a full 365 days." ____ started. "When I first came here from Unova, I admittedly had... Low expectations. For myself, more than anything. I was just some kid from Nuvema Town, I'd never picked up a PokeBall before."

They spotted Arven in the crowd, and he gave them a quiet thumbs up.

"But- y'know, being at the Academy has really changed everything. It's not every day the director himself comes knocking on your door to give you a Pokemon." ____ glanced at Clavell, who adjusted his glasses with a smile. "And it's also not every day you happen to meet your three best friends in the entire world on the same day, within a few hours of eachother. I know a lot of people think the same thing about themselves - oh, I'm just a nobody, I can't do what they do. But I want to tell you all, as someone who WAS a nobody... Success isn't out of reach. With support from your peers, you can climb to any height you can imagine... And I, as one of this school's two champions, am going to be your leverage. We can lift eachother up to be our best, and make something that we can be proud of."

Even if their speech was short and sweet, it got their desired message across - the crowd of students clapped politely as they hopped off the stage, dodging through people with surprising mastery. Arven only realized they were coming right to him when they gestured for him to follow.

"I'll be right back," Arven said, and Penny only vaguely hummed in response. She had her chin propped on her upturned palm, watching Nemona with a dreamy look in her eyes. He excused himself quickly right as Nemona began to talk, of course mentioning her love of battling.

Arven followed ____ up the stairs and into the school, where they rounded a corner into a hall. He lost track of them for a moment, before they grabbed his wrist and yanked him into an empty classroom.

"Why are you-" Arven is silenced when their lips meet his, and they push him back until he's sitting on one of the desks. He flings an arm back to hold himself upright as they casually clamber into his lap, disregarding the fact that they might screw up their nice outfit.

____ holds onto his blazer like a lifeline, and Arven takes a moment to figure out how to keep them both from falling over before he leans into them. They were so tense, it was rather surprising.

He runs his hand down the back of their neck, tracing his fingers down their spine - they shudder when he caresses the dip of their back, making a soft noise that he could barely hear.

"Arven..." They gasp as they pull apart for a moment, before eagerly diving back in for more. He happily reciprocates, finally comfortable enough to set both hands on their hips. Arven runs his palms down their thighs as they slide their fingers underneath his blazer, too impatient to try with the buttons. How long has it been? Arven can't think straight, trailing his hands up their thighs towards-

And then his phone rings. It's Nemona. Of course it is. ____ groans, flopping against him. Obviously this means they have to go back to the actual ball.

"Chin up, it'll be alright. Your big speech is over, I guess it's time we went and had fun." Arven can't help but feel a little disappointed. He did enjoy their time alone.

"Yeah, yeah, Mr. Reasonable." ____ hopped up, fixing their outfit. "Come on, let's not leave Nemona waiting."

Short because I've been really busy lately, plus just not really felt like writing

I decided to make dndads pokemon team headcanons

Each character will be limited to 3 max (exceptions pending)

Daryll:

Greedent - Looks just like him, Matt said so himself. Calls it Grant. It gets confusing.

Meowth (Galar) - Scruffy just like Daryll. Evolves into Perrserker, fitting Daryll's barbarian class. Named it Aragorn on a whim and wouldn't change it even when people told him it doesn't fit.

Kangaskhan - Loving, protective parent. Inherited from Frank as the baby of his own Kangaskhan now grown up. Named it after his grandmother, Sally.

Henry:

Cradily - No brainer. Best of both interests (nature and geology). Named it Lily. Simple, sweet.

Carnivine - Thorn Whip/Entangle/Grasping Vine! Also representative of his more aggressive nature that he pushes down until he snaps. Named it simply Flower cause he wanted to associate it with nice and gentle imagery.

Trevenant - Had it since he was a boy and both lost their memories when they were transported to earth. Gifted to him by Beary to help attune him to the Doodler's eldritch nature within him by interacting with the ghost type. Made of the husk of an oak tree. Perhaps possessed by the lost soul of an Oakvale child. Can learn Will-O-Wisp, which is a good enough justification for Wall of Fire for me. He never named it.

Glenn:

Beeheeyem - Had it since it was an Elgyem, but doesn't remember catching it. He remembers getting high in the desert one night, then waking up with a new friend. He doesn't even know the species name, he just calls it Star Wars.

Rotom - Let's it chill in his amps or guitars when at home and in his vape pen when on the go. When it possesses his electric guitars it can play loud even without an amp. Calls it Lil' Dude/Lil' Man/Lil' Guy/Lil' Buddy. It responds to all.

Pikachu - of all the characters, he feels the most right to have a Pikachu. What's it's name? Nick Jr.

Glenn hasn't technically captured any of his pokemon.

Ron:

Herdier - His first pokemon that he had to give up long ago. Named Rogue.

Greavard - It found him one day.

Paeden:

Tyrogue - It's the same size as him and he found it after joining the dads. He fought it himself. Calls it his Rival.

Walter the Immoral:

Honedge - The sword that gave him his name. He never wanted a pokemon, but when the sword he crafted broke and killed that hero, it became possessed and returned to him. Has no name, and he barely refers to it. Good friends with Paeden.

Scam Likely/Well Actually/Scam Actually:

He has no set team. Every time he crosses paths with the daddies he has a different pokemon accompanying him, even if they were only separated for an hour.

Some examples of pokemon he's been seen with -

Willy:

Dusknoir - Uses it as a tool and nothing else. Doesn't refer to it at all, conditioned it to respond to orders only.

Darkrai - Keeps it contained and under wraps. Never tries to use it for battle or utility. He doesn't want to risk losing control, even in his dreams. He would have to be desperate to resort to using it.

Beary:

Liligant (Hisui) - Uses it as a partner for light aerobics and yoga. Calls it Lily.

Golurk - Created it himself. He considers it something of a magnum opus. Refers to it by its species name.

Dragonite - His ace up his sleeve. He lets it guard the O-Dads compounds and bases. Calls it Raymond Dio Labot.

Bill:

Slaking - His oldest pokemon. Extraordinarily powerful, but just as lazy as he is. Calls it Brother.

Exploud - He likes it loud. Taught it to beatbox and Willy fucking hates it. Calls it Rock and/or Roll.

Rotom - Glenn's Rotom. He bequeathed it to him some time before he "died". He's the one that started calling it any variation of "Lil'" that Glenn caught on to.

Farewell to You, ch 10

A few weeks later, the party went off without a problem. Everyone gave Ash their congratulations. Even all of the population of Pallet Town, for representing them for so long. Ash thanked them all, clearing his throat. It was time for the toast. Everyone raised their glass, looking at their new world champion.

He smiled at the group as he addressed, "Thank you all for always believing in me. Even though I had made so many questionable moves."

Iris teased, "No kidding! You are such a kid!"

Everyone laughed. Cilan smiled at his girlfriend.

He pointed out, teasingly, "You're still younger than me!" Iris wanted to retort back but decided not to. She wanted to let Ash continue his speech. So that's what he did. He continued, "First, of course, I wanted to thank all of my Pokemon for always being there for me. The ones that are here. And the ones that aren't..." Ash got sad for a moment and cleared his throat. He added, "Anyways, I wanted to thank my Mom, all of my friends, and my rivals. For pushing me in the right direction."

Delia smiled at her son proudly. He had come a long way since he first got a Pikachu that wouldn't listen to a word he said. Now the two were very close friends. She thought, 'Oh David, if you could see your son now. You wouldn't see a very stubborn boy. He's become much more than that. He's become a man. And hopefully, Misty can join our family soon.'

As soon as Ash saw his mom start to cry, he thought of his dad. He had a feeling, and Delia did too, that David would've been very proud of his boy. He thought, sniffling, 'I knew that I'd make it someday. And who would've predicted my start, though...'

Gary saw that Ash was also on the verge of tears and decided to change the subject. He winked at Ash, "Someone has to Ashy-boy."

With that, Ash snapped out of his sadness. That's when everyone laughed again.

Ash took Misty's hand, "And most importantly, I want to thank you. For pulling out of the river out of those years ago and beyond."

Misty had tears in her eyes as she laced their fingers together, "Oh Ash..."

Ash gave her a kiss, one which Misty happily returned. Misty held him close. Ash did the same thing.

"Pi pika chu!" Pikachu said, giving off its victory pose.

"Piplup!" Piplup said.

Dawn stated, "All's well that ends well."

Ash and Misty broke out their kiss, still holding hands. Togetic was happy for her Mama. Pikachu was happy for them too.

Lily teased, "So when's, like, the wedding?"

To that, Ash and Misty both blushed. "We're not getting married yet!"

Violet rolled her eyes jokingly, "Oh great, now they're gonna deny when they are tying the knot now."

Max laughed, "Just when we thought it was going to get easier."

Molly blinked, "It never gets easier. Does it?"

Max just shrugged.

May asked, "So what's the plan for the future?"

Drew flicked his hair out of his face, "It doesn't matter, as long as we all together."

...

Years later, Ash and Misty were finally married. They had a beautiful 3 year old named Trina. She had short raven hair and chocolate brown eyes. Misty was pregnant with their second child, a son. Paul and Ranee had a handsome 3 year old named Justin. He had short brown hair and green eyes.

Pikachu had settled down with Buneary. Dawn was married to Kenny but they decided against children. Drew and May had two children: Matthew and Katie. Matthew looked like his mother with brown hair and green eyes. Katie looked like her father with green hair and blue eyes. Matthew was 4 years old and Katie was 2 years old. Todd and Zoey were also married but they didn't have any children yet.

Brock and Lucy were married too. They had only one child: Fester. He had light brown skin and Brock's eyes. He is 4 years old. Solidad and Harley were engaged. James and Jessie were married. They were expecting a daughter. Tracey and Daisy were married but they didn't have any children. Max and Molly were traveling around together, dating. Bonnie hadn't found anyone yet, nor did Mahri. Rudy and Melody were married too.

Goh and Chloe were engaged. Barry and Bianca were married and were expecting a son. Clemont and Serena were also engaged. Kiawe and Olivia were married. Looker and Anabel were married but they had no children. Ritchie and Duplica were married and had one daughter: Amy. Amy has brown hair and hazel eyes. She is 3 years old.

Lance and Prima were married. Gary and Erika were married and they were expecting a daughter. Professor Oak had passed away a bit after Gary and Erika were married. Steven and Cynthia were engaged. Steven had lost his father way before the events years ago. Yoni was still in jail and Lawrence was on a very tight parole. Reggie and Maylene were married.

Brandon and Luka were engaged. Violet and Lily were still single too but they were okay with that. Delia had come over earlier that day to spend time with her grandchild. Delia had gray hair now but other than that she had not changed all that much. She was chatting with Misty as Trina was having a nap. Ash didn't know what was going to happen next but at least he had his family.

Wishmaker1028: There we have it! The end of Farewell to You! I really enjoyed working on this fanfiction. I originally wanted to have a moment where Team Rocket decided to let go of Lugia (2,000) like they did in the movie. Ash and Pikachu are complete tears as they watch them drop down to the ocean yet again. But it didn't make much sense for this to happen again since they didn't have to do that (in this story) so I scratched it. I wanted to share that. I am going to miss these characters and I hope you all have enjoyed this fanfiction. Please read and review! And always think outside of the box!

"You're now the Pokemon Champion! …Or, you would have been, but you have one more challenge ahead. You have to face another trainer. His name is… ROMAN REIGNS!!"

Listen to set the mood.

Imagine the following scenario. You have been on quite the journey through this new region. You have finally conquered the Elite Four and just when you think you are the new champion, a door opens and all you see is a white light. Upon stepping into the light, you take a brief moment to admire the room. It is much more massive than you expected but it is also very office-like, baking in a low light thanks to the chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the torches in the four corners. The walls are painted white with several black pots of red flowers attached on both sides. It is very cozy - even homey - but you can still feel the intimidation about it. Perhaps the most intimidating and interesting part of the room is a large table stretching out to the other side. This table is so long and so wide that it would fit perfectly in some king's castle and at the other side of the table sits him. The Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table, the best of the best.

Roman Reigns: So… You actually made it. Very few people made it to the Elite Four and even less than that made to me. I will admit, I am impressed, but this right here… is where your journey ends. I've been reigning over this league longer than you've been alive and if you think a guy like me is going down to a kid like you, well guess what? (He pulls out a Timer Ball and lightly tosses it in his hand) Prepare… to acknowledge me.

As soon as he snap his fingers, the beat drops and he sends out his first Pokemon onto the table.

Inspired by Truegreen7 and his series of giving celebrities and famous people Pokemon teams, I finally decided to give Roman one of his own so that my brain can't finally rest on this idea. The Heel Pokemon Incineroar is quite possibly the most obvious choice, given his current "Tribal Chief" gimmick. Aegislash is a nice little nod to his time in The Shield and being that he was born and resides in Florida, Alolan Exeggutor is kind of a must in my opinion. Revavroom is probably a bit of a strange choice in your eyes, but it represents his appearance in Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off from the Fast & Furious franchise. A franchise that's all about fast cars and family. Speaking of family, Kangaskhan is another fairly obvious pick, representing Roman being a family man and his love not only for his kids but for the kids in general. Finally, we have the Teamwork Pokemon Passimian to represent Roman's history in football - both in high school and college. Honorable mentions to go Hawlucha and Zamazenta, the latter being another reference to the Shield and the former representing Roman performing a suicide plancha - albeit very rarely, but still. The only reason they didn't take the team is that Hawlucha is much better suited for Rey Mysterio and I feel that Zamazenta and all other legendary Pokemon are better suited for Hall of Famers.

And just because, if Roman were League Champion, Incineroar and Kangaskhan would have access to its signature Z-Move and Mega Evolution respectively. Also I just now realized that I gave him three Alolan Pokemon on accident. Well, Roman has Samoan heritage, Samoa is part of the Pacific Islands alongside Hawaii, and Alola is based on Hawaii - why am I making this connection after the fact?!!!

#RibbonQuest2.0 - Part 4: From GBA SP to Pokemon SP

Jin, wake up!

You’ve been asleep for a full year! Almost exactly to the day, in fact!

They’ve finally added Pokemon HOME support for the gen 4 remakes, and you know what that means... yet another remake-return on our quest, back to Sinnoh for the second time!

For a refresher on Jin’s travels so far, they’ve gone as follows: Orre > Hoenn > Johto > Kanto > Sinnoh > Unova > Kalos > Hoenn 2 > Alola > Galar > Sinnoh 2. But for this, we’ll first need to go HOME.

This temporary trip won’t require us to separate Jin from his Ribbon Gang 2.0 for very long.

He won’t even be separated from his moves. Thought this was an interesting feature!

And we’ve arrived with everything right where it ought to be. No titles for the ribbons in this game, unfortunately.

I decided I’d give Jin the chance to get used to being in Sinnoh all over again after so much time away. We have some traumatic memories from this region, so it seemed fitting to revisit some of the happier ones.

That’s him down in front, in case the Master Ball wasn’t a giveaway.

Like that time I randomly contracted Pokerus! The only time in my history with the franchise, an infection which has obviously sprawled its way across countless games of mine in the time since. That was a fortuitous event, a symbol of good luck for the trials yet to come.

Or the Ribbon Syndicate! I remember describing it as the sweetest moment in the entirety of Ribbon Quest, getting to knock those hoity-toity gatekeeping snobs down a peg... only to then have to grind hundreds of thousands of Pokedollars in order to buy ribbons from them. But we’ll be keeping our cash this time around, ma’am.

How about Ball Capsules!? One of my great regrets from the original RQ was neglecting to collect these on my DS games and make Jin a capsule that shouts DUCK or something. The bad news is they removed the letter capsules for the remake so I still can’t rectify that, but I did what I could to whip Jin up something special with what I do have.

And who could forget the Battle Tower!?

...Actually, I’d like to forget the Battle Tower. Luckily, the ribbon for this is identical to the one from SWSH, so we’re sitting pretty there, no new Ribbon Gang 2.0 members needed.

All right, let’s just get this over with and go back to Galar. Where exactly is this new ribbon we need to get?

Ah fuck. The only way this could get any worse is if Cheryl’s waiting on the other side of those doors...

So yes, much like ORAS’s Contest Star a couple generations ago, these remakes added another new contest prize called the Twinkling Star Ribbon. The good news is these contests are largely different from those in the DS versions of Diamond and Pearl, so with any luck I’d have the ribbon easily enough, no Poffins or accessory spam required.

Jin still represents the pinnacle of Pokemon Performance in all regards.

Basically these contests are a short rhythm game, and while that was my least favorite aspect of the DS contests, it wasn’t quite as bad. Each rank only has one song, so there’s no randomness there, and with practice it’s not too hard to get the pattern down. You can gain a small boost by decking your Pokemon out with capsules, and you can use a Contest Move once per show which temporarily eliminates the need to even hit any notes.

Jasmine resurfaced specifically to remind me she doesn’t play around.

Each attempt didn’t take very long, and in the end, after a combined seven or so tries, the Twinkling Star Ribbon was ours without much trouble. I think I even had a little fun, although I am glad I didn’t have to grind all the previous tiers of contests beforehand.

Jin is likely to spend the remainder of his time on the Switch in Galar where this new ribbon isn’t displayed, so for the return trip I wanted to snap a quick shot of him in the Mobile App version of HOME to showcase the nifty ribbon gallery visible there. Lookin’ good as always, old friend.

With that, Jin is officially an 8th gen Ribbon Master once more, and permanently... for at the time of this writing we’ve already seen the announcement of gen 9! Which means the future of Ribbon Quest is again uncertain until more details about Scarlet and Violet come to light.

How Likely is it For Each Pokemon Spin-Off to Come Back? (Part 3)

We’re covering Pokémon Snap, Bandai Namco’s contributions to the series, Pinball and its connection to Picross, Puzzle League, and the GOAT itself, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Pokémon Snap

The Original Pokemon Snap was made by HAL Laboratory, which never touch the concept since. However, after Bandai Namco built a relationship with the Pokemon Company, they decided to bring back Pokemon Snap, and they even got the blessing from the original game’s producers.

What established this relationship? Well…

Pokken Tournament

Bandai Namco Studios is a large developer and publishers that have multiple games coming out each year. They also recently set up dedicated teams to work on Nintendo games: Studio 2 and Studio S. However, neither team seems to have worked on the Pokemon Games, according to their website, so I’m not sure how much of a factor that’d be.

Both Namco Pokemon games sold decently well, and were well received, and the developers seems to enjoy making them in interviews. I can’t find what director Haruki Suzaki’s been up to, so I assume he’d be free to work on more Pokemon games if he wants to. So I’d say it’s pretty likely that Pokken and Pokemon Snap will return again someday.

Pokémon Pinball

HAL helped with the first Pinball, and Jupiter Corporation worked on both. They also made a ton of games for the Pokemon Mini, which I didn’t think I’d need to mention. These days, Jupiter makes Picross and only Picross. Including

Pokémon Picross

The latest Picross game came out last year, and this year they came out with a game that brought over puzzles from the 3DS games, so they’ve definitely been busy. Their most recent crossover was Picross Lord of the Nazarick in 2019.

Unless another Pinball game developer takes interest, I don’t think new Pokemon Pinball will be happening anytime soon.

I think a new Pokemon Picross is possible though. They don’t make crossovers much, but they do still make a few every now and then

Pokémon Puzzle League

Pokemon Puzzle League and Challenge are crossovers with the Panel De Pon series. Panel De Pon is made by Intelligent Systems, which has been busy with Paper Mario, Warioware and Fire Emblem lately. The most recent game in the series was a mini game within Animal Crossing New Leaf that was added in 2016, but I can’t find a source as to whether or not Intelligent Systems made it. The last game they for sure made was Planet Puzzle League in…2007!

Yeah this series is dead. But as long as Intelligent Systems is around, I think it’s possible a new Puzzle League could be a Z-project. But would it have Pokemon in it? The odds are very slim, but not zero. I’d love to see the Paldean Gym Leaders in a Puzzle League Game. Or even more exciting, Liko Roy and Dot! Or maybe a Pokemon theme as part of Panel De Pon 99

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon

My love for this series rivals the main series, and it even has my favorite game of all time. Anyway, Good Vibes gaming put out a great video on the history of Mystery Dungeon, which goes beyond Pokemon.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon had a game per generation for 4 generations straight! And then another one in Gen VIII! Why did it skip Gen VII? 2017 had Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, and 2019 had a remaster of Chocobo Mystery Dungeon, so maybe they didn’t have time. The rate of Mystery Dungeon games did go down in the 3DS era, so maybe these games are taking longer to make then they used to.

The latest game in the series came out just this year, with Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. It also marked a 4 year gap for the series, the longest in its history. So this particular Spike Chunsoft Team has been busy.

But I believe they’re working on a new Mystery Dungeon game as we speak, this series keeps making games at a steady rate. Fingers Crossed they’re working on a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon specifically. I really want one that represents the current generation, but I also really want Explores DX! I’d love to revisit my favorite game of all time in a new way!

Pokemon Presents was so lit today

I marked out big time when they revealed Paldea Pokemon will be joining Pokemon Go. That was a cute segment too with the different shoes to represent each generation of games.

Paldea Winds looks really good - I enjoyed Twilight Wings - so I'm looking forward to that. Path to the Peak or whatever the TCG themed series is called, that looks cute too. The live-action documentary about Worlds got me back into playing TCG after 20+ years, so why not check out the animated series about it too, right?

And speaking of TCG, I played the Game Boy game way back in the day and then again on 3DS virtual console in 2020, but I'm excited to play it again on Switch! It's SUCH a good game. I recommend it!

I may even download Masters again (I ran out of room on my phone and deleted it a few years ago lol) though I might start with a fresh new account because it sounds like a lot has changed since I stopped. PKMNcast makes references to how it's got some sort of dating sim element now?! Anyway I liked the voice acting for Nemona there.

It is good that Mew is more easily accessible these days. Back in my day (extremely old lady voice there lol), you had to hack one in using a Game Shark. I think it's nice that you can get one with a mystery gift code or the save data from another game. Beats having to rely on in-store distribution events.

And then the DLC, ooh the DLC. It looks like a ton of fun. All the new characters we got introduced to seem so cool. I do wish the trailers showed us where Nemona and the other pals will be during the DLC. Are they coming to Kitakami or Blueberry Academy? It would be great to see them there. I'm also excited about the photography elements...I took photography in high school and so I feel very connected to this lol but it also has shades of Pokemon Snap and that's great too. Oh and!!! A club room you can decorate! Let's go! All kicking off next month too with the first half of the DLC dropping... these are good times to be into Pokemon...

Turning 25, and about time for a quarter-life crisis.

What a mess social media has found itself in. Facebook and Twitter are either seen as a joke or in disrepair, Places like DeviantART want to experiment with AI art and it has hindered the site, and no one is in a prime position to take over and be the new place we can all hang out. The internet is going though a major painful metamorphosis and I am not sure how to feel about it... cause who the heck knows the result? Not me!

It's probably a fitting time as ever. This month will mark the big 25 (specifically July 7th, give Ringo Starr my birthday cheer, too.) and I have been doing a lot of thinking in my life about what I want to do and how I can do it while still being able to survive. And the honest to goodness fact is that I haven't come up with any answers, at least not any good answers that I can work with.

I'm going to try and make my thoughts on what is going on with me as simple as possible.

I've worked in the same dead end part-time job for the past two years. It's above minimum wage, sure, but it's not a living wage either. It's also a highly physical job. Most of the time I'm in the parking lot outside. In the burning sun. Lifting heavy objects and pushing carts. Despite it being part-time, I feel wiped out after the fact and not want to do anything else. This has frustrated people who wonder why this can possibly happen (my workplace and a couple of my close family.) The only reason I am still here at this point is because I need the healthcare.

In spite of a degree in Computer Science, virtually every application sent with using it in mind has never been acted upon, not even getting to the interview phase. Just rejected. What's ironic is that applications sent to other retail places have gotten quick responses back. People look at my resume with my degree and see more readily a sales representative than a software developer and it doesn't make me feel great...

All of this culminates in coming back home without feeling a thing. Completely emotionless. I'm in therapy for this, but it's been a slow progress to get to this point. And unless I do something drastic I might be stuck in a loop for a while longer, which stinks.

It was a mistake thinking that making art and creating stuff for people to enjoy would do anything to change that and hoping, somehow, it could turn into an actual career. I really held out hope in this avenue but have now reached a conclusion that it will just be nothing more than a hobby I do on the side. The fact that any original material (Always Lagging Behind, Rocket Board, and other original character art) I've created has gotten less attention and praise than fanart does not help in me reaching this conclusion (especially with my involvement in Pokemon Mystery Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Heroes.)

By extension, I accidentally made things I like to do for fun or should be relaxing as work I must do, and that's just not good for my mind, let alone anyone's mind. It's probably why I don't feel happy when trying to relax and try to enjoy things, but it also might be more complicated than that...

All of this has made me reach this conclusion: I need to make a change immediately. There are a number of things I'll be doing, but here are three things that are relevant to the internet world specifically:

Howie's Convenience - Clean Up After Yourself! will continue as I planned before making this... post? monologue? snapping point? I'll let you pick. I will pick the voices for the characters in late July, record with the cast, and then animate the thing whenever I get a chance to do so when I'm not doing whatever I can do get myself out of this hole I dug.

I'm now only going to use social media to post things I want to post. That's it. No looking at what everyone else is doing and liking and sharing.

Twitter and YouTube are now considered cold turkeys. YouTube will only be used for when I'm uploading something to the site. My Twitter accounts will just not be used altogether and will be closed July 31st.

I know those of you who care about what I do might find it very sudden. It honestly is. I have a bad habit of putting things off on most days and then somehow finding the will in me to actually make a drastic step to change my life. With how I worded some of this stuff, you might come to the conclusion that I hate my audience or other people for just liking what they do and they don't match up with what I want them to like. I do not. I hate myself for even wanting to humor that notion. It's not my fault people just have different tastes and likes. It just means I should just keep drawing what I like in that moment and be proud of what I make.

I'll keep posting here on Tumblr to keep you updated on that Howie's Convenience project I've only just now told you about on this site (another bad habit) but for the most part, consider this post as me acknowledging the mistakes I've made and doing what I can to get out of it.

I did it. I got bored enough to make a pokedex for my neck of the woods. I'm a little biased but it's my dex so yeah

I didn't really want to create any new Pokémon, but Jesus. How is there no Blue Tailed Skink pokemon yet? They're everywhere here

Anyways the way I imagine things is this: each state has their own official pokedex with some crossover from neighboring states expected. Kids would probably choose a random farm animal equivalent while some can get special access to certified Starter pokemon approved by the state boards. That being said, it's perfectly legal and sort of expected that some people will dip over state lines for a specific one if that's what they want (or in our case, cheaper). Each pokemon chosen here is based on some aspect of wildlife or industry, with only a few thrown in for cultural or realistic means (as in Cryogonal for freezers, Garbodor because of litter, and the likes of Electivire because I think it and Magmortar would be token school mascots)

The legends chosen here are mainly because this area is very religious. Zygarde isn't seen because the religious dichotomy here would be that God made Xerneas for us and the Devil made Yveltal to kill us- everything here is very black and white in that regard. In reality they're probably just mutant legendaries from an Ultra Wormhole or something. Celebii was chosen because it's always felt like a mythical that belongs here tbh.

Anyway, if I grew up in this fictional MS, I'd probably have Typhlosion because irl was my first starter, Mudsdale because we raised horses, Tauros because i raised a bull irl, Shiny Umbreon because we have always had dogs and irl was my first hatched shiny, Blastoise (obtained for similar reasons I obtained so many pets: dumped onto me), and Corviknight because its my favorite irl and there's enough crows to warrant it.

There's a plethora of farming, logging, and basically a bunch of blue collar jobs here, sports and religion/superstition are high priority here, and if you see a LOT of grass, water, and ground types, that's because it's very wet, lots of woods, and lots of mud.

Lurk all you want. The worst someone can do is block you.

It's perfectly okay if your blog doesn't exist for the sole purpose of supporting each and every artist of every single post that appeals to you.

Your blog doesn't belong to them.

And I'm saying this as a blog that primarily actively reblogs art and only uses likes for organization.

People get so hung-up over reblogs being better than likes.

Like it's such a necessity for all the new users to "learn how tumblr works"...

Do they stop to consider that maybe someone just wants to exist on an anonymous public platform without a stranger on the internet telling them what to do?

If new users care about tumblr etiquette they can learn it easily enough without 'Well actually' posts talking down to them.

Y'all seem all too quick to blame the people who barely just got here for not supporting artists enough...

Just a suggestion,

but how about you blame platforms and their exploitative marketing and censorship practices for screwing over the content creators they depend on to keep their companies afloat,

rather than random individual users with new accounts who, contrary to popular opinion, still don't owe you a thing?

After watching Risk/Strikeback for the who-knows-how-many-nth time, I just noticed something.

So Nino doesn't believe Adrien doesn't want to go because he figures his best friend would tell him, right?

Well that's good logic, except this is after Rocketear, where Adrien saw Nino react negatively to Cat Noir, the version of himself where he gets to actually express his feelings.

Even with the misunderstanding with him and Alya, it had to have hurt to see how Nino really felt, just like it was with Kagami.

So of course he doesn't tell Nino his true feelings. After what happened this season, he feels like he can't trust anyone (he even considers it a risk when he tells Marinette).

This makes it even worse that it becomes increasingly apparent to him that Ladybug doesn't trust him. Because she's the only one he feels like he can be himself around.

He's felt more alone than ever this season.

But then Ladybug has a full-on panic attack right in front of him, and because he's Adrien, he finally gets to see past the brave face she puts on, and her constant frustrations with Cat Noir, to the incredible pressure the girl he still loves is under.

He's never seen her fall apart like this. He immediately snaps into focus, talking her through it. And when she realizes she lost and collapses in despair, the look on his face when he decides to go in and comfort her says it all.

He was right to be upset at how she was treating him, and finally she acknowledges this, but he'd never abandon her. And now that it's just the two of them against the world all over again, his unwavering support and devotion is what finally gets through to her.

one thing i will say about the new pokemon snap-esque art direction is that for better or worse pokemon is leaving racially vague character designs behind. removing their environmental context, characters like (default light skinned) gloria and victor can be interpreted as white or asian or literally any race with pale skin. there was just enough lack of detail that allowed people to do that. doubly so for every 2d sprite character. but with this new art direction racially vague/ambiguous characters seems to be less and less of a thing. like omg they made "technology is amazing guy" caucasian

that by itself isnt an outright bad or good thing. it can lead to more specific ethnic features to be better represented. but it can also cause people who could identify with the previous artstyle to feel left out if specific parts of themselves cant be found in the new artstyle. i hope the latter doesnt happen, but only time can tell

#on the player characters i can see different eyes and eyebrows which is nice #but doesnt look like theres nose customization.. and of course no minor body size customization either

My immediate thoughts on Gen 9:

-It looks like the new region is based off Spain (and potentially Portugal)! Congrats for people hoping for a Spanish/Portuguese region!

-Looks like they’re using the New Pokemon Snap style for gen 9. Gonna get some getting used to, particular since the Pokemon models seem to be in-line with the mainline GF games, but it could be good.

-Listening to the demands of fans and making it open world it seems. Legends Arceus was definitely a step in the right direction, but suffered a bit from empty landscapes and it will be noticeably harder to make Scarlet and Violet open-world if they’re focusing on battling and not catching.

-The male and female protagonist look practically identical this time. I’m ready to see sibling portrayals from the community!

-Fuecoco is honestly growing on me. I don’t know if it’s based on food, but it keeps reminding me of a tomato dish. I like Sprigatito’s design, the name is kind of a meow-thful (sorry. Couldn’t resist) and the name Quaxly is excellent but looks a bit silly with the toupee.

-Why Scarlet and Violet for the names? They aren’t opposites on the colour wheel (either the ones you learn in school or the CMYK one). They’re different levels of colours (scarlet is a shade of red, primary. violet is a shade of purple, secondary), and they’re not linked in any obvious way like Gold and Silver as precious metals. Feel free to correct me if I’m missing something.

That’s a super great observation, meaning they could be referencing infrared and ultraviolet OR the colours of the rainbow (since red is already taken, they may have chosen a shade of red--scarlet--instead! Especially since it ends in the same way as violet in english)

-But look at the fonts! Yeah, they kind of suck, but Scarlet has a noticeably more historical font with sweeping curves to representing printing; while violet is angular and standardized like you’d expect from a computer. Could? Could this mean we get a region addressing Past vs. Future?? Ohhhhhh, I really hope so!

-2022 release date SUCKS. I know it fits with the pattern of a new gen releasing every 3 years, but: Legends Arceus just came out and this is going to steal some its thunder, as a manga fan the tighter release schedule has noticeably dropped the quality of the arcs, and we had to deal with a global pandemic! GF already seems to be struggling to create quality in a 3-year development cycle, and that’s on top of lost work hours during the pandemic and development on PLA! I am...nervous...on how the quality of this game will turn out and wish they’d waited at least one more year personally.

My final verdict: I am keeping my exceptions low until I get more news

May I introduce you to: the scrybe of Threads and Needles

They’re one little insane puppeteer that’s one inconvenience away from snapping and going apeshit!

Their whole skit is that they sew and embroider cards, but they also absolutely love doing it with living things, slowly replacing each part of them with a piece of fabric and lots of stuffing, until they’re a new thing entirely. Theseus ship looking mf.

They’re also completely insane because they themselves converted their body into one of a doll so that sure- messes someone up! They’re also tightly linked to the Mycologist

This was them as a human! Since, personally, I head canon the scribes to have been perfectly normal people before turning into scrybe that took the place of the previous ones

When you face them, they can do two things: either divide one of your card’s stats by two, or make one go apeshit (picture confusion from pokemon). Also, their cards feel lightly padded and soft, and their board game is actually a cushion covered in needles and such, and the player is represented by a little doll

And at last, a few of their cards! The overstuffed explodes when hit, sending stuffing all around itself and damaging up to three cards standing right in front of it, before turning into a “limp”, a empty husk with very low attack but, oddly enough, lots of hp.

The tape thingy can wrap around and enemy and hold it in one place until one of them dies

So yeah!! I had a lot of fun with them

Did you know? Pokémon Snap Programming

Did you know they used some pretty awesome techniques to code Pokémon Snap?

I absolutely loved playing Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64 when I was a kid. Whether it was trying to get the best score or just see how many Pokémon I can whack with an apple, I sunk way too many hours into it. Fast forward to 2021, we've got a new game coming out, and the first thing I thought when playing was "How did they program this?" Computer vision is definitely capable of pretty amazing things, but I kind of doubt the developers made a huge machine learning model to search for so many different Pokémon, recognize what pose they're in, recognize other Pokémon in the frame, etc. And even if that were the case, there's zero chance that's how they did it back in 1999. There has to be an easier way... but how?

Disclaimer: I didn't develop either the old Pokémon Snap or the new one, so I clearly don't know the exact techniques they used. However, I think I've got a pretty good theory as to how they did it. Give it a read and let me know if you agree or think I'm wildly off base.

So there are a few questions we need to answer here:

How are the Pokémon programmatically represented?

How does the Professor know which Pokémon are in the picture?

How are the other criteria (size, pose, direction, position) determined?

With those questions listed, I think we can get a pretty good idea of how the game [probably] works.

How are the Pokémon programmatically represented?

So we know this game is a 3D game, so clearly the Pokémon needs to know its position in this 3D space. I assume it also has variables for what direction it's currently facing, as well as what "state" it's in. I'm guessing each Pokémon has a list of states that correspond to different poses and a state machine for when to transition between the states (e.g. In "Idle" state, player hits it with apple, enters "Shocked" state). This doesn't sound all that impressive, but it's how I think these variables are used that get interesting.

How does the Professor know which Pokémon are in the picture?

I believe that when you take a photo, the game first takes a screenshot (which should just be as simple as reading the frame buffer and dumping it to an image), then determines the score of your picture right then and there. You heard me right; the game already knows how terrible your picture is the second you take it; the Professor is just the messenger. And how does it do this? Ray casting.

Ray casting is essentially where the game "casts" a line from the player straight out into the horizon and computes if it hits an object in its path. So in the picture above, you draw a line from the player's eye and the computation can determine that there's a circle blocking a few of those lines. I believe this is the exact same technique used in Pokémon Snap. The game draws a number of lines from the camera and checks if any of them hit any Pokémon. And if it knows which Pokémon it hit, it can know all of those variables pertaining to that Pokémon, including its pose, direction, etc. It should also know if it hit any other Pokémon in the same shot, so that's how that "Other Pokémon" category is calculated.

How are the other criteria (pose, size, direction, position) determined?

Once we know what Pokémon are in the picture, we can start reading through its variables. Pose can be read from the Pokémon's state, then have some lookup table for how many points that state is worth. Size can be determined by how far along the ray the Pokémon is - the closer along the ray means a larger Pokémon. Direction can be calculated as the difference between the player's direction and the Pokémon's direction - it's directly facing the Player if the Pokémon's direction differs 180° from the player, and any distance from 180° can be subtracted from the maximum points. Position can be determined by the Pokémon's position in the 3D space minus where the centermost ray "intersects" with the plane the Pokémon is on - the Pokémon is in the center of the photo if the Pokémon is 0 distance units from the centermost ray, and any distance can be subtracted from the maximum points.

And there you have it! I found a comment on a Reddit thread about someone who developed their own Pokémon Snap inspired game and they used the exact techniques I've described here, so I hope there's some merit to them. What do you think? Do you think I nailed it or do you think they secretly had super advanced computer vision algorithms back in the 90s?
