Tumblr media
She's Kinda Hot Though - Jessica Chastain x fem!reader
pairing: Jessica Chastain x fem!reader
warnings: light smut
summary: read to find out
word count: 1.1k
Day one on set was a bliss. You were happy to finally do a movie with your long-time friend Diane Kruger and you had all day to catch up since there weren’t many scenes filmed. The two of you grew up together and were practically inseparable when you were young.
You knew all the people you were working with. Well knew would be too much. You knew their work. But you knew that you were working with the elite of Hollywood: Academy Award winners Penélope Cruz, Jessica Chastain, and Lupita Nyong’o and screen legends including Sebastian Stan and Fan Bingbing. You felt a little small compared to them if you were frank.
You had been in the business for about one and a half decades but you were nothing close to being as famous as them.
Once you were done on set, you decided to get dinner as a group, so here you were, seven Hollywood actors having dinner at a Chinese Takeout place in L.A., laughing and telling stories about yourselves.
After some time you found yourself gazing at the ginger seated next to you. You noticed her right away when you first met her at a screen test for the movie but hadn’t seen her since, she crossed your mind every now and then since that day.
She was mesmerizing. Her eyes, her hair, her nose. She was perfect from head to toe. Her laughs were sweet and adorable and the way she scrunched her nose while laughing was everything for you. You had known her for what one day? Two if you count the screen test?
She laughed again and this time she made contact with your thigh for a spit second and your breath hitched. Diane gently nudged you from the other side and gave you a knowing smirk. Even after all these years she still knew exactly how to read you.
The next day on set, Diane teased you whenever she could. “Da hat aber jemand nen Crush,” (Seems like someone’s got a crush) she sang as you picked her up to head to set together that morning. “Halt doch die Klappe.” (Shut up.) You immediately replied. “Auf keinen Fall. Das ist einfach zu gut.” (Ain’t happening. It’s just too good.) she replied, an amused smile on her face, at which you hit her arm, shutting her up effectively. “Sie ist aber schon heiß” (She’s kinda hot though) You admit and Diane gives you a content smirk.
Over the next few weeks, you and Jessica had gotten closer, having lunch together regularly and practicing your lines with each other. She gave you a ton of advice and you were very grateful for that.
This evening, you were at your place, practicing lines. You had heated up some leftover food and finished the night with a glass of wine and the movie in the living room. The two of you shared a blanket, you were a little tense because you were so close to her physically but she didn’t seem to have noticed.
At some point, she shifted her position and moved even closer to you. You didn’t know what came over you but you decided to at least try something and you carefully put your arm around the ginger’s shoulder.
You could smell her flowery perfume and feel her hair tickling your arm. If you weren’t alive right now, you would have thought you were in heaven.
You suddenly couldn’t focus on the movie anymore, your attention on her and only her. You took in each and every one of her movements as you watched her eyes follow the scene on the flatscreen.
“Staring is rude, you know.” She said and you had blushed, having thought she didn’t notice you staring. “I’m not staring, love, I’m admiring.” You flirted back and she chuckled cutely.
And then it felt like slow motion and timelapse at once. You leaned in, she did the same, your lips met and it felt like a firework going off. She gently cupped your cheek with her delicate fingers and pulled you closer. You gently swept your tongue across her bottom lip, asking for entrance and within a second your tongue was invading her mouth as she began to tug at your hair.
Your hands slipped under her black shirt and she gasped as your hands made contact with her porcelain skin. You gently caressed the skin of her stomach with your hands as you moved your mouth from her lips to her neck. She tilted her head in response, giving you more access. You left a mark barely below her ear and you knew you were going to get shit for it later but you couldn’t care less.
Jessica tugged at your grey crew-neck and you pulled away for a split second, taking it off along with the tee you were wearing underneath, revealing a red lace bra. You weren’t intentionally wearing it, it was just the one you had picked for the day.
You sat on Jessica’s lap, her hands were now on your hips, as your hands found their way into her hair, smashing your lips to hers again. This feeling was heavenly.
The ginger’s delicate fingers were now gently caressing the skin barely underneath your bra and you gasped at the contact, allowing the other woman to slip her tongue into your mouth. You moaned into the kiss when her hands finally found your breasts and gave them a gentle squeeze.
Oh, how many times you had imagined this moment and here you were all at her mercy, trembling at her touch. You tugged at her sweater and it come off just as easy as yours had just moments ago. Jessica was wearing only a bra underneath her sweater and you both moaned at the skin-on-skin contact that you got as the sweater left the picture.
This was such an incredibly passionate and intimate moment. You both took the time to explore each other, careful to be moving too fast and scaring the other. There were hot gasps and moans echoing through the walls as she lowered herself between your legs and sent you into a state of pure ecstasy while your hand was in her hair, holding her as close as anyway possible before the two of you switched places and you made her feel insane pleasure.
“Damn, Y/l/n. Damn.” Jessica breathed out as you fell down next to her on the sofa. After that, the two of you started giggling.

Title: Super Self-indulgent Shark Week Spectacular
Rating: G (there is one swear though)
Pairing: Bi-Han x Sol (me), Tomas x Hallvard
Summary: So it’s a little late for Shark Week, but I finally sat down and finished up my super self-indulgent selfship Shark Week spectacular. Feel free to join me on my little adventure as I get to my love of Shark Week with my youngest son for the first time. Thank you lovelies for encouraging me to split my time between reader inserts and self ship content. I don’t really expect anyone to read this but if you enjoy domestic fluff an sharks you might enjoy it.
Author’s Note: As always if you enjoy this please feel free to like, comment and or reblog and please feel free to ask any self ship questions you have, I’m always happy to talk about it. Based on my previous poll, I did drop the tonal accents on the Chinese words, so there are smattering of Chinese names, and familiar terms. Thank you all again for encouraging me to write this and special thanks to @kutleki who also shares my love of Bi-Han and sharks lol
“Bingbing’s asleep? You’re sure? You didn’t just put her in her bed and shut off the light and just walk out did you?” I ask raising an eye at my husband.
“Babe, what do you take me for? First of all, I read her a story until she literally blacked out, then I snuck out of her grasp, tucked her in, and left the room. She’s sound asleep.” Bi-Han answers as he grabs a bowl of popcorn from the kitchen.
“Hmm, ok,” I reply, skeptical that my husband was successful in putting our almost three-year-old to bed. I turn to my sons, “you sure you’re not going to get nightmares, Xue?”
My youngest son gives me an indignant face that I’ve seen his father make too many times, “Mama I’m 9! I’m not a little boy! Sharks aren’t going to give me nightmares! You and Baba kissing all the time will though.” He mimes vomiting and wraps his arms around his stomach and hunching over as if he was in pain.
“Try living with it as long as we have,” my oldest twins answer in unison as they pile onto the couch next to me, leaving no room for their father.
Bi-Han arrives with the popcorn and gives me an upside-down kiss, “oh yeah, total nightmare fuel,” he chuckles and hands the twins the bowl of popcorn.
I shiver slightly and zip my hoodie up a little more, I love spending time with my husband and my boys, but being surrounded by cryomancers with no natural resistance required proper clothing.
Bi-Han notices my slight shiver, “need a blanket babe?” He doesn’t wait for my answer and makes his way to our bedroom to grab one of the fur duvets from our plush king-sized bed. He makes his way back in the living room and the temperature dips again and I’m grateful when he wraps the blanket around my shoulders. He narrows his eyes and looks around before looking at the twins, “and where exactly am I supposed to sit?”
“On the floor with Xue?” Xiao-Han, my oldest, answers confidently.
“Yes, that’s exactly where you boys belong,” Bi-Han glares at the twins while crossing his arms over his chest.
“Y-yes baba,” they answer sheepishly as they slink onto the floor next to their younger brother.
“Is everyone finally settled,” I ask, slightly annoyed with having to wait this long to start watching Shark Week because at the rate we’re going it will be Xue’s bedtime before we can even watch one episode. I grab the remote as my hoard of boys answer affirmatively and I’m just about to press play on the DVR when the door opens wide with a clunk.
“Sorry, we’re late Sol!” Tomas’ voice greets me as he’s followed by Hallvard and Kuai Liang all showing themselves inside our dwelling.
I blink and look over at Bi-Han, “you invited your brothers and didn’t tell me?”
“Well you said it was family night, so yeah? I didn’t think you’d mind,” Bi-Han gives me an odd look as if he didn’t understand what the problem could possibly be.
I scowl at him before turning my attention to our extended family, “guys keep it down, Bingbing is asleep.” I hiss, hoping my boisterous in-laws didn’t wake the baby.
Tomas at least has the decency to look ashamed of himself, “sorry Sol,” he whispers as they make their way to the living room.
Bi-Han stands up, “I’m going to make more popcorn one bowl isn’t going to be enough.” I give him a dismayed look, “babe it’s ok, the boys don’t have school tomorrow, it’s Friday night, and Air Jaws will wait for you, I promise.”
“What about Colossus though? And Deep Blue and Duchess? Are they going to wait?” I sulk as I rattle off the names of Great Whites made famous over the years.
Bi-Han throws another package of popcorn in the microwave and pushes the button while he chuckles, “they’re already recorded qīn, they’ll be fine.”
Kuai Liang settles on the couch next to me and I feel the chill of all my cryomancers dissipate slightly, “do you want me to go check on Bingbing and make sure she’s still asleep?”
I sigh, “if you don’t mind, I really wouldn’t mind letting her stay up, but she’s not even three yet, I don’t know if the sharks would scare her or not. I was about Xue’s age when I started watching Shark Week even if it is a bit older than that, but I suppose I did have a lot of picture books about sharks when I was younger, but not two years old, younger.”
“I don’t mind, she’s my precious niece,” Kuai Liang replies as he gets up and heads down the hallway towards the kids' bedrooms, and my nice air of warmth is gone. A moment or two passes before he comes back with Bingbing nestled excitedly in his arms, “she uh wasn’t asleep.”
“I was afraid of that,” I hold my arms out to take my daughter from her Uncle, but Kuai Liang makes a face and hugs her closer as he sits down with her. I shrug in defeat as he cuddles Bingbing closely and starts baby-talking to her in Chinese, her little face lights up and she tries her best to babble back to him. I feel inadequate, Bi-Han and I have been together 15 years and I can barely string a sentence together in Mandarin, and my two-year-old speaks it better than I can, in my defense Bi-Han is not exactly the best teacher, I try and justify though I find it hard to believe my lie when all four of my children are multilingual and I still need the help of google translate to go to the market. I scowl and turn to my brother-in-law, “cover her eyes if it gets too gruesome.”
“Will do,” Kuai Liang agrees and resumes playing with Bingbing by trying to eat her hands which she is absolutely living for, and squealing with delight.
“Did Uncle Liang play with me when I was Bingbing’s age?” Xue asks and I can’t tell if he’s jealous of his little sister or genuinely curious.
“Are you stupid,” Xiao-Bing answers before I can, “Uncle Liang always played with you when you were meimei’s age, he wouldn’t leave you alone.”
“I played with you and Xiao-Han when you were babies too, you used to love answering your foot like it was a phone, it was so cute,” Kuai Liang reassures the twins, making sure they all know their Uncle spent equal time with them.
“Hey don’t forget about us!” Tomas chimes in stealing a handful of popcorn from the twins, “he’s not your only Uncle! Uncle Halle and I have been here the whole time too!”
I chuckle, “yes you’ve all had plenty of Uncles to look after and play with you boys ever since you were born, I don’t know who was more nervous when I was pregnant first, your Baba or your Shushu.”
“Mama, I don’t wanna hear about Han and Bing again, I want to watch sharks!” Xue pouts and shoves a handful of popcorn in his mouth.
I sigh and look over towards the kitchen, “I want to watch sharks too but we have to wait for Baba.”
Bi-Han dumps the popcorn in a bowl and heads back into the living room passing the bowl to Hallvard, “are we finally good? Do we need a third bowl of popcorn?” He asks hovering next to the couch not wanting to risk sitting down.
“We can always make more if we need it,” Tomas quips. “Sit down gēgē, I think if Sol has to wait any longer she’s going to go cage diving with the sharks herself.”
I finally open up the Discover Plus app on my phone and connect it to our living room tv and press play on the latest installment of Air Jaws: the Final Frontier, excited to be able to see my favorite, breaching Great White Sharks. I’m greeted with a pleasant, familiar face as Andy Brandy Cassagrande introduces the premise of trying to find breaching sharks in New Zealand. I curse under my breath and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
“What’s wrong babe, I thought you liked this guy?” Bi-Han asks while stealing some popcorn from his younger, adopted brother.
“It’s not Andy I’m upset about, it’s those damn orcas, Port, and Starboard I’m upset about. Why have they not been tagged or dragged off to Sea World or something, they’re decimating the Great White population in South Africa and forcing the sharks from their homes,” I complain glaring at the mention of the problematic whales.
“Babe, it’s nature. Discovery Channel can’t just swoop in and save the sharks single handily,” Bi-Han replies, and while he’s right the answer still rubs me the wrong way.
“Yeah well, next family trip is South Africa, you’re going to rip those orca’s spines out and I’m going to go cage diving with the sharks and boop their snoots,” I state bluntly as I’m suddenly met with stares from my boys and in-laws. “What? The orcas deserve it!”
Bi-Han hisses in my ear, “the boys aren’t supposed to know I can rip a spine out I thought, that was your rule if I remember correctly. You didn’t want them exposed to the assassin side of the Lin Kuei, only the martial arts aspects and I agreed that the boys wouldn’t be assassins.” Bi-Han seems upset and worried that I had said too much.
“Fuck,” I whisper and suddenly flush red at my mistake, “kidding! Only kidding! I just hate those orcas so much that I wish Baba was able to take care of them so easily!” I try and talk my way out of my predicament, but thankfully my children seem engrossed with the sharks circling the cage diver to notice my backtracking.
“Smooth qin, real smooth,” Bi-Han rolls his eyes and gropes around for the popcorn bowl before Tomas helps him out and moves the bowl under his hand.
“I mean Baba’s crazy strong, if it’s possible to rip a spine out, which I don’t think it is, he probably could,” Xiao-Han replies casually as if we discussed the physical aspects of dismemberment all the time.
“It’s not possible,” Bi-Han is quick to inform his son, trying to get the topic onto something else, “woah! That shark is huge! Look at it!”
“Why is he so big?” Xue asks, clearly spellbound by the magnificent animal circling the cage and nosing at the seal decoy.
“She, pumpkin, that’s a girl shark, they’re much bigger than the male sharks, so anytime you see a really big shark it’s most likely a girl,” I inform my youngest son.
“Why are the girls so much bigger,” he asks, clearly confused by this considering his own parents' dynamic was very much the opposite.
“Well, they have to be really big to fend off predators and to be able to take care of their babies,” I reply finally stealing a bit of popcorn for myself.
“But Baba keeps the family safe,” Xue insists, “you’re too small Mama.”
“Things are different with sharks, shark mamas are big and strong because shark babas don’t stay around and help the mother shark raise the babies, they do everything on their own so they have to be able to take care of themselves and their babies,” I explain before adding. “You’re right though I can’t take care of you all as well as Baba can, which is why we keep him around,” I laugh slightly and pull the blanket closer as I snuggle up to Bi-Han.
“You also keep me around for my excellent dumpling skills, don’t forget that,” Bi-Han laughs as if he doesn’t bring anything to the relationship outside of his brute strength and culinary prowess.
“At least the children wouldn’t starve if I spontaneously died,” I laugh as I’m swatted by my brother-in-law.
“Sol! Don’t say things like that in front of the baby, you’ll upset her!” Kuai Liang scolds as he covers Bingbing’s ears.
“You better not spontaneously die, Baba’s dumplings are good and all but I can’t eat them every single day, besides there’s no way he’ll remember to buy us the Oreo mooncakes, we’ll just end up with boring sesame, and the crappy ones with nuts and ham Shushu likes,” Xiao-Bing starts while Xiao-Han finishes the complaint while stuffing popcorn into their mouths.
“So glad my cooking and ability to buy the right mooncakes is why you want me alive,” I sulk and pull the blanket around me higher.
Bi-Han shoots the boys a look and they immediately mumble, “sorry mama.”
I try and ignore the twins' reasonings to keep me alive and remind myself they are teenagers and I’m lucky they don’t tell me they hate me on a daily basis as I finally let myself get sucked into Andy’s hunt for breaching sharks in New Zealand. We watch the rest of the special with little commentary aside from the occasional “woah!” from my youngest son. The special ended with a super satisfying breaching Great White and potential hope that the Great Whites might have found a new home in New Zealand. Thankfully Bingbing was sound asleep in Kuai Liang’s arms and didn’t seem to have been scared of the sharks she did end up seeing and I can’t help but think to myself “she’s my daughter, of course she isn’t scared of sharks,” it feels surreal but so satisfying to sharing something that had been such a big part of my childhood with my own children. It was hard to believe Shark Week was celebrating its 35th anniversary but my boys were so amazed by it and intrigued that I hoped it continued another 35 and was something I’d be able to share with my grandchildren.
“Can we watch another Mama?” Xue asks, he had abandoned the empty bowl of popcorn in favor of his stuffed polar bear because of course all my children received stuffed polar bears when they were children. It wasn’t just a nod to their father but it was also special to me because when I was a very sickly child growing up in the hospital a kindly nurse had gifted me a stuffed polar bear after my first major heart surgery. I often thought it was fate that I had ended up with my Polar Bear.
“It is getting kind of late, but I suppose one more won’t hurt,” I agree and queue up Jaws vs the Meg and snuggle closer to my husband, my heart overflowing with happiness as my family is all together to enjoy this. I’m a little sad my own brothers aren’t here to experience it, but they haven’t seen the boys since my Father’s 70th bday, and have never met Bingbing. It was hard living another world away sometimes, but I wouldn’t change my life for anything.
“What’s this one about Mama?” Xue’s voice cuts through my slight melancholy.
“This one? Only the coolest sharks ever! The Great White vs their prehistoric ancestor the Megalodon! It’ll be awesome!” I perk up with the excitement of my two favorite sharks being showcased in one special.
“Cool!” The boys echo as we settle back in to enjoy the special.
I definitely hit the jackpot as I look around at my extended family, and happily push play.

The SAG strike is upon us and thank god! I was worried for a while that writers would get no support and that would mean a hard road for them. This is tumblr so I am pretty sure I know what side of this most of you are on but if you are for some reason against these strikes I am here to tell you that you are wrong. I am pretty sure the biggest argument from the Blue Check Mark Crypto Bros will be something like, "I'd sure love to get paid to just make movies" or something that implies actors are spoiled and lazy. If that is your take first of all fuck you. No one is stopping you. Literally no one. Get in your car, go to Hollywood, try it if it seems like such an easy and sweet deal. But second of all, you aren't getting that money if they don't. Executives are. Why the fuck are you watching a movie and thinking, "I wish Reed Hastings was making more of this money". Its wild to me how badly people want to undervalue art and over value people who take up desk space. Also, though, actors don't always make that much. I had a teacher in College who would teach for 2 semesters than leave fro two semesters because he performed on Broadway. He was not a star, he was a regular working actor. He was also a wonderful teacher and really helped ignite a love of acting in me. Not the performing side but the intellectual part of me that loves to study things, I really started to appreciate the choices people made. But he taught to save up money so he could go do his main job, which didn't actually pay enough to live on. This is actually common of a lot of actors, it's just a normal middle class job. That's what the stars are fighting for, for them. This is a thing we should always commend. Matt Damon I see get shit sometimes but at the end of the day he is set for life, he doesn't need to cost himself money, he is to help those who need help. That's commendable. Finally, though, is the fact that these are some of the more powerful unions in the country. Right now the entire world is pushing back against labor. You have probably seen it in your job, despite the fact that retention is difficult, it's near impossible to fill some positions, and there are just more jobs than people, management is trying to reassert dominance by taking away privileges like work from home. They are doing this because their model is largely based on exploiting people. I have seen it in my past, jobs that swore we were a family and begged us to make sacrifices for the good of the company. We did. Then when things went bad they cut us adrift because we were not a family and they didn't care about us, they just were manipulating us to get extra, unpaid labor from us. I am sure you have seen this before. So if the biggest unions in the country can't get concessions we are all fucked. We need this strike as a symbol but also as a bellwether. The next few years will really matter. So I support the strike. Mainly, I support it because I consume a lot of movies and I want the artists who make them to be rewarded. It will cost the studios a ton of money but will cost me nothing, so I can't imagine not supporting it. There are literally over 100 years of movies to go back and watch if you get bored. Now is a great time. I suggest starting with Greta Gerwig's watchlist for Barbie. I have seen half the movies and they are great. Anyway, that's my way of saying I am posting Fan Bingbing who was at Paris Fashion week last week and looked amazing. See, we'll need to get used to this because no promos means no red carpets which means no new pictures for a while. But we have a lot of stuff in the background. I kept waiting for higher quality versions of these but this is what I have and you know what? She looks great. Today I want to fuck Fan Bingbing.

Hey! I've seen every live action adaptation official adaptation of resident evil! Here are my thoughts! (warning: SPOILERS!)
Resident Evil: Cool and slick. Kinda a let down that Rain died, but her death was effective. If you watched this, and only this, you can see it as a tie in to the games and a nice standalone feature. Weird that the dog scene in this is better than the Netflix one.
Resident Evil Apocalypse: Fun, if the characters are flat and one note. Milla Jovovich (Alice) and Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) own in their action scenes. Could have sprung for CGI for Nemisis in the close range fight - made it more believable.
Resident Evil Extinction: Mad max rip off with character's somehow flatter than the previous installment. Clair Redfield was played well by Ali Larter, but her character had nothing but "leader of the caravan" - needed more characterization. The oil rig set piece was alright, but kinda a low point of the series.
Resident Evil Afterlife: Damn cool first and last action scene. Wentworth Miller was a great Chris Redfield, but Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker was the MVP - so over the top, and loving every second of it. Boris Kodjoe as Luther Wes had great charisma as well. The middle of the movie is kinda standard zombie movie and not that interesting - could have been better, but otherwise okay. This movie's title should have been Afterlife - given how it's after the extinction - the next one should have been called rebirth. Hindsight is 2020.
Resident Evil Retribution: Best installment, in my opinion. The underground water base gave a variety of locations, the monsters were varied and gave room from several set pieces. Say what you want about Johann Urb as Leon, Kevin Duran as Benny, and Li BingBing as Ada, but all three had good chemistry with each other - not a lot of substance, but DAMN, did they have style. Michelle Rodriguez was underutilized - should have had an OG version of Rain come back as a clone and survive to the final film - that would have been cool. Ending shot mirror's the first movie's ending shot x10 setting up for an epic conclusion.
Resident Evil - The Final Chapter: WE WE'RE ROBBED! Why did they go back to the Extinction ascetic and skip the much more interesting looking Washington DC battle (and not to mention kill several characters) for a run down retread of the first movie?! Even if you just wanted to do that, why is Clair and Alice the only characters at the end?! Yes, Jason Issacs is a great actor and it was cool you brought him back, but it required the lore to bend over backwards to fit him in. I'm not saying it super bad - some action sequences are very cool - just disappointing.
Resident Evil - Welcome to Racoon City: And I thought the last installment sucked! Bad fight choreography and filming, bland characterization (oh, Albert, what did they do to you? A misunderstood "not" bad guy that doesn't even do anything noteworthy? And Jill was turned into a weeping willow? Leon as the comic relief?), not scary (somehow, the Licker from the first Resident Evil was better then what showed up here). How do we beat the final boss? Oh, I just so happened to find a rocket launcher - LUCKY US! Just...bad. And also kills any straightforward adaption.
Resident Evil - Netflix live action series: In attempting to create something unique, they ended up presenting a boring YA novel mashed with a disappointing apocalypse (STOP IT WITH THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE IN THESE MOVIES! IT WORKED IN THE ORIGINAL INSTALLMENTS, BUT NO MORE! IT BACKS THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE INTO A CORNER BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER PULL BACK THE APOCALYPSE!) The lead constantly makes dumb decisions and survives not by skill or smarts, but by luck. Giant centipede attack? Survives because of random survivors. Surrounded by Zombies? Survives because a car just so happens to be swinging by. Only have a chainsaw against an oncoming horde of zombies? That sounds cool - no wait, the chainsaw breaks down - awe. WAIT! She's been saying she is smart - write her a way out of this that requires her to think! She can see an grenade that didn't pop off - she positions it at the door, fires her last few rounds on it's hinges, it falls and explodes - sending the door upward and breaking the granite above her and sending down an avalanche against them....or you can have her throw it and then stand up when it doesn't explode and have the door falling down thing be dumb luck. UGH! And the set pieces just do not have any good conclusion. Giant centipede - the centerpiece of the first trailer - killed by a dozen bullets from offscreen characters. Literally no problem to put down - SO BORING! Interesting set up - good actors (Lance Reddick rocks and the rest of the actors and actresses do well - but MAN should he have been playing the real Wesker - his one scene as OG wesker was SO FUN AND THE BEST Live Action adaptation of the character - but NOPE! Let's have him play a dad and an out their guy - cheat the fans even more), disastrous execution. FYI - somehow WTRC is more boring than this, but there are just so much wrong with this instalment. PLEASE give the franchise back to PS Anderson and Milla Jovovich - the OG series wasn't all winners, but they were better than this and WTRC!

daiyu was the first born qing and for a large portion of her life, the princess and her siblings were under the impression the throne would one day be hers—much to her own displeasure. her upbringing was particular, befitting that of a future ruler, but the young princess couldn’t help but feel bitter over the things she missed out on. though the one thing she didn’t miss out on that her some of her biological siblings did was knowing their mother. she was everything daiyu wanted to be one day: elegant, intelligent, and magnanimous. she was the empress china deserved.
despite her reservations, she embraced her burden better than most, determined to be great like her mother. with little effort on her part, daiyu was soon adored by the people, it was a positive feeling she took too quickly. at a young age, she learned to use their adoration for self-gain. for a long period, it went entirely unnoticed and the young princess received a great number of gifts and favors.
by the time she was eighteen, her father had already begun to discuss the prospect of marriage but daiyu had other intentions; one her father didn’t seem to immediately dismiss. her first love was a young, skilled warrior who came from one of the finest families in china—and the princess knew her father couldn’t ask for more. until he did.
to marry a princess or serve as a general in the king’s army. the choice her love made was one daiyu never could have imagined, it left her feeling disconnected and alone in ways she hadn’t before. only a few months later, her mother died and she took her daughter’s sorrows with her. as though it were the only way she might save her first born from despair.
the loss of her mother seemed to stir something maternal within the oldest princess, she did far more to care for her younger siblings than was expected of her. nor did she expect anything in return.
there finally came a day when daiyu saw she needed more, to be more. something she couldn’t do without first securing a beneficial marriage. it wasn’t hard to find the right suitor, one her father approved of, but it was no secret that it was no love match. however, to marry the oldest son of china’s wealthiest families was nothing to turn one’s nose up at.
her marriage is happy, far more so than she’d have imagined it any number of years ago. when her father decree the throne was no longer a guarantee it lifted a weight off her shoulders she hadn’t realized she’d been carrying. and replaced it with a new worry, that the next ruler of china would be a mystery.
though the princess may not have the throne to back her decisions and overly ambitious power-plays, she has something she deems far more valuable: her husband’s money. and she’ll use it any way she needs to see the sibling she most desires sit on their father’s throne.
𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲
daiyu loves to be in control and if she’s not, she’ll do what she can to find a way to make it so. she doesn’t need to be front and center either, she’d rather do it from behind the scenes
she’s always had a sort of magnetic energy about her that has drawn others in and helped her be the center of attention. it took her a while to learn to use it to her advantage, now it’s more of a dangerous weapon than anything else
𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐜.
daiyu is a mother, she and her husband have two little girls. outwardly, they appear to be the most perfect little family and overall they are.
kai-ming holds a special place in her heart, due to how young she was when their mother died, daiyu felt the need to be there for her more than the others and it bonded them
𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
her husband — oh sweet lawd pls someone bring me this. tho it certainly didn’t start out as a love match these two definitely have strong feelings of love for each other now, mostly born out of everything they’ve been through together. he’s low-key a simp for her so he’s happy to spend money however she wants
her lost love/the general — i’m a sucker for a love triangle, sue me. daiyu still doesn’t understand why he would ever pick duty over loving her, and believes it was the wrong choice. yet she somehow thinks she made the right choice in marrying her husband, make it make sense.
friends — could be any range of friend from very close to new acquaintances
enemies — I'm sure she's made plenty of these. could even be enemies of her husband's family.

Hey flo do you have a guide to naming Chinese characters?? So I can be ethnically correct !
i apologize for how late this is. i’ve had a very busy work day and i’m only now getting some downtime to sit down and answer this the way i want to answer this. i want to start off by saying that i am chinese-american and that what i say and how i name my chinese characters is based on my personal experiences in my community growing up and what i’ve gathered through long-sought out research and diaspora twitter.
i also want to say that of course your ethnically chinese character can have an western name, it’s very common that we do, especially in modern times and in immigrant spaces, however i think we should be able to normalize using ethnic names. also unless you are adopted ( see: leah lewis ), in my experience you 100% have a chinese name on top of having a ‘western’ name, so if you want to give your character a western name it’d be accurate to give them a chinese name as well ( see: natasha liu bordizzo/liu chengyu ).
if you find this guide helpful, please like and reblog the post, validate me and if you have any questions/corrections/add ons please let me know!
i would have you start off by reading this really helpful guide. it’s a little long winded and you don’t have to read all of it but they do a great job with describing the different romanizations of names and how they’re different across different dialects/regions. you need to first decide what context your character exists in, whether they’re from beijing or taipei or hong kong, their full name is going to be spelled differently based on what background you want to give them.
my mother’s surname is actually a great example of this. her surname is 湯 which in mandarin chinese is pronounced “tang” but because my mother’s family is originally taishanese, her last name is romanized “hong” everywhere that uses an english spelling. alternatively, if my mother’s family changed their romanization when they moved to hong kong, where they speak cantonese, her last name would have been romanized as “tong”.
another example of this is chou tzuyu. because she from taiwan, the romanization of her name is chou tzu yu but if her family was from, like, shanghai her name would be romanized zhou zi yu. same chinese characters ( 周子瑜 ), but because they are pronounced differently across different languages and because she is taiwanese, the romanizations are different.
so after you’ve decided what romanization you want to give them, the next step is to actually choose a name. i personally begin with the given name with all of my characters because i like attaching a meaning to the given name over the surname. and also surnames are pretty easy to find/figure out.
here is a guide that discusses a little bit about naming conventions in china, particularly about gendered names. i really like what tangelotime had to say about the fact that gender doesn’t really matter when it comes to naming because, in my opinion and experience, it doesn’t. i would say that what would be “gendered” is possibly the way a name sounds. idk how to explain this but there are some names that sound “girly” but more in the sense that it’s like girly vs. butch. and i can’t think of a good example of this so you’re just gonna have to ... idk go with your gut. but for the most part, chinese names are gender neutral.
what tangelotime also said about how giving a chinese name is intense is absolutely true because there are so many things that parents may consider including chinese zodiac and fengshui and radicals in a certain character and what it means---it’s a sport that i do not have the effort for nor the intelligence to properly explain. however, i think the guides that i’ve linked so far do a good job in explaining that in a way that i cannot. here is another extensive guide, but this one discusses historical contexts ( for all u historical rpers heh ) and more importantly imo, the list of themes that a parent might take in creating a name.
8/6/21 edit: i came across these pictographs of characters from mdzs that analyze the etymology by the radical that gives you a lot of insight to possible name meanings and to the written chinese language.
additionally, here is a video by avenue x, an amazing creator on youtube who reviews c dramas and gives a lot of in depth cultural context for some of the shows she watches, that explains the names of characters from word of honor and gives the poetry references that the writers may have used.
so if you’ve taken a look all the guides i’ve given you, good on you, i really appreciate you putting in all the work. now let me give you some examples of how different things may be taken into consideration when giving a chinese name.
my given name is 安儀, romanized “on yee” because my family speaks cantonese. the first character means “safe” while the second character means “appearance,” so together my name means “safe appearance”. but, my mom also took into consideration the radicals of the characters as well. the first character looks like it has a hat or a roof on it right? that is intentional. the character underneath the hat is the character/radical for girl, so my mom wanted to make sure that her daughter had something over her that would protect her. hence why she chose the character 安. the second character in my given name consists of primarily two other words/radicals, 亻+ 義. the first radical is a variation of ⼈, the chinese word for “person,” and the second radical can roughly translate to “righteous” which means when put together, 儀 can mean “righteous person.” however 儀 can also come to mean “the appearance of a righteous person” if you consider all of the meanings i’ve given so far. my parents thought heavily about what my name means, not only on a translation level but also on a structural level.
if you’re writing a family with multiple children, consider having a generational name. in short, generational names usually have a shared character among a single generation of family members. both of my parents and their siblings are named in this manner. my mom and her siblings all have the 華 ( wah ) character in their names. my dad and his brother have the 少 ( siu ) character and his sisters have the 美 ( mei ) character in their names. my grandparents ( both sets ) thought to give their kids a generational link in their names.
now let’s look at jackson wang’s given name, 嘉尔, which he explained was homophonic in meaning. this is a tangent but chinese people love homophones and it’s why we don’t trust the number 4 but love the number 8. his given name, romanized “gaa yee”/”jia er”  is essentially a homophone for “plus 2″. he said ( in a video that i cannot find anymore ) that his grandfather named him because he wanted the meaning to be “a king with two guards to protect him”. jackson’s last name 王 (wong/wang) means “king” so “king” “plus 2″ is the intention his grandfather had in naming him.
but if you’re really not versed in things like fengshui or poetry or you don’t have someone with chinese literacy available to you, the next best thing is to honestly ... take a look at media. whether that’s celebrities or film/tv/book characters ( written by actual chinese people pls ) and see what their names are ( or at least the romanizations are ). this will help you figure out what sounds appropriate and what sounds like you’re just mashing sounds together ( see: cho chang is she korean... is she chinese?? who the fuck knows ). and then finding characters that give off a meaning ( like my name meaning “safe appearance” ) is just fine imo.
and honestly sometimes giving a name doesn’t have to be so deep. like fan bingbing’s name literally translates to “ice ice” and i don’t even know what her brother, chengcheng’s name is supposed to mean, i think their parents just think having the duplicated character is fun and cute. so don’t stress yourself out.
also a lot of what i’ve gone over has pertained to the common 3-character name ( 1 character surname, 2 character given name ) but you can also consider a 2 character name ( 1 character surname, 1 character given name ) ( see: xiao zhan ) or even a 2 character surname ( see: ouyang nana ).
so finally, to get you started, here is a short list of characters and their romanizations that you can take a look at.
thank you so much for bearing with me, i know this is a lot of information to take in but it is great that you are seeking this information out in the first place. i also know that this may seem very daunting, and even for me it’s daunting sometimes, but if you have any more questions, please let me know and if you have anything you’d like to add, please let me know.

Nine Percent Mafia Scenarios
Tumblr media
Cai Xukun
Tumblr media
Cai Xukun, a name that is well-known whether you go to the same school with him or not. He was notorious for not only being the heartrob of the school, the best basketball player the school had ever had, a hard-working student and a caring person.
Even so, there was a rumour going around that he was part of a gang. Now, this wasn't your typical school gang or a motorcycle gang but more so a mafia group. Not only that, the rumours has it that he is even a leader of one of the mafia's group.
But despite his reputation, Kun was never one to play with people's feelings. So he would always decline people's confessions as nicely as he could. Truth be told that it was mainly because there was already someone that caught his attention since the first day he came to the school (*cough*you*cough*).
Of course, because of his reputations and all, he didn't really want to make his crush that obvious, especially when he was in a mafia group. Though, his group were more so dealing with the actual scums rather than causing trouble for the authority (which is why the authority would let his group go).
But that would soon change during one of his important matches. Not only was he against his school's biggest rival but also his mafia's rival. If he won the game, it'd be killing two birds with one stone.
Unfortunately, when the match was going fairly well for Kun's side, his rival's side had their own set of tricks. Apparently, some of his rival's group were scattered around the school, finding one specific person, you.
While you did try to put up a fight and all, you were outnumbered and the opposing rival managed to get ahold of you. Once the game was over and Kun's team had won, they had to shake hands with the opposing team which of course, Kun did as well. However, when he got to his mafia's rival, he received a disturbing information.
"It was a good game but looks like you guys could still use some practice" Kun snickered, shaking hands with his rival
"I wouldn't be too cocky if I were you, August" his rival challenged, making Kun tensed up upon hearing his work name
"Don't test me, especially in school. I suggest you leave quietly unless you're starting to pick a fight" Kun barked
"Heh, well, let's see how tough you can get when you're with (y/n)" his rival mentioned, makin Kun gripped on his rival's hand even more
"What do you know about (y/n)?!" Kun growled
"Why don't you come by dinner tonight? I'll send you the location" his rival smirked, taking his hand back and leaving the school along with his team
Kun instantly contacted his own members, asking them to track your phone since he tried calling and texting you but you didn't reply him at all (which is actually very rare unless you told him you had something to do).
At the same time Kun received an unknown message, his members found your phone's location which was completely different to the location in the message.
Kun then split his group to two, with him going to the location he got from the message whilst the others go to the location where they tracked the phone down.
It wasn't that much of a surprised that you weren't at the location Kun went. But that didn't stop Kun from going brutal with the rival gang. After he was done there, he went over to where you actually were on his motorcycle.
Arriving at the scene, Kun wasted no time and just knocked the rival gang even when he was still on his motorcycle. When Kun did get down from his motorcycle, he kept going until he finally reached you and pulled you into a hug.
"Are you alright? Did they hurt you?" Kun asked, concern can be heard from his cracked yet soft voice
"I, I'm alright, Kun. I just got a slight bruise but nothing too serious" you admitted, holding onto Kun's hands that were almost 2x your hand size
"If you ever come near her ever again, I'll show no mercy next time. Now scram" Kun hissed, making the boys run away from the scene
"I'm fine, Kun. Don't scare them like that" you stuttered
"Let's go, let's put some ice pack onto that bruise, hmm? Then we can continue watching that drama you were watching. Let's go boys" Kun mentioned, pulling you to his motorcycle
Chen Linong
Tumblr media
Honestly, Nongnong is just too soft to be part of the mafia. Which is also why he is perfect to be the spy in the mafia XD alright, onto the scenario
So, I imagine that you were one of the bad girls in school. Not bad as in you caused trouble but more so you look like a baddie when you're actually nice to the ppl close to you. One of which was Nongnong.
When Nongnong first came to the school, he looked so cute and soft that you swore that you wouldn't let anybody bully him nor hurt him at all. You even helped him get used to the school.
Time passed by and you and Nongnong were quite close with each other that even went on a few study dates here and there; which Nongnong of course would take you home like the gentlemen he was.
But one study date made you change your mind how you saw Nongnong. All this time you would always feel the need to be the one to protecc precious Nongnong, but this time, it was the other way around.
The both of you stayed a bit longer than expected at the study cafe you guys always come for when you were doing school stuff. But of course both of you have told your parents and Nongnong even told your parents he'll still bring you home safely.
As the cafe was closing, you and Nongnong finally head back home when suddenly a gang of motorcycles came by and stopped right in front of you. Nongnong tried his best to tell them off but for no apparent reason they just burst up and went to charge towards you and Nongnong.
You've experienced fighting before which is why you were still standing, unfeared of what this gang could do. But as you were about to fight back, Nongnong quickly stood in front of you and beat all the people in the gang; scaring them off and even threatening them that if he ever sees them again or even hears about them when he's around, he won't go easy.
"Are you ok (Y/N)? Are you hurt anywhere?" Nongnong asked, his voice turning into his normal soft voice
"I, you, what? Who are you and what have you done to my sunshine soft precious Nong?!" you exclaimed, pointing at Nongnong and at the slight mess he made
"Ahaha, I'm also super Nongnong!! Remember? But for reals (y/n), are you alright?" Nongnong asked in concern, holding your hands in his
"I'm fine. You didn't have to protect me though. You know I can fight" you mumbled
"I know. But you shouldn't have to fight when I'm around. I'll take care of you even when I'm sick. As long as you're fine then I'll be fine. Come, let's go home" Nongnong softly whispered, pulling his signature smile as he pulled you away from the scene and head back home
Fan Chengcheng
Tumblr media
Kay, first of, boy looks like he ready to throw a fit or something XD also, crazy to believe that he was just 18 here. Kay" scenario
For this I imagine that Chengcheng had to attend a wedding of a family member (let's say it's his cousin) and his parents expect him to bring someone or they'll make him mingle around with the people at the wedding.
Because he much prefer to bring someone he knew, he immediately called you to come join him; telling you that he'll find hair, makeup and stylist for you so all you had to do was just join him. Though you're not much of a social person, Chengcheng got you by telling you that there'll be your favourite foods.
Time skip to the day of the wedding
You arrived at the Fan's house and was greeted by Chengcheng's sister, Fan Bingbing. Because you've been to his house several of times, truth is, his parents and Bingbing were thrilled to hear that Chengcheng invited you to join.
Bingbing then directed you to one of the rooms that was filled with different clothes and she even helped you picked out an outfit then brought you to another room where there were people ready to do your hair and makeup.
After nearly 2 hours of getting ready, you were finally done and Bingbing was helping you zip your dress when Chengcheng came in already in his dashing suit. Bingbing then gave a smirk, leaving you with Cheng.
"Wow, you look amazing? You're probably gonna outshine the bride. Here, lemme help" Chengcheng exclaimed, helping zip your dress up then looking at you in the mirror
"Speak for yourself. That glasses really suits your look. Not to mention the slick back hair with a slight green/blue tone?! Damn, Cheng" you replied as the both of you looked in the mirror
"C'mon, I want one mirror selfie then we can go to the actual event" Chengcheng requested as he took his phone out and taking a mirror selfie with you
After several more pictures, Chengcheng's parents finally called you both and the both of you went downstairs; where Chengcheng's parents and sister were waiting.
After around 30-40 minutes of being on the road, you all arrived at the venue, took some pictures and were redirected to where you would be seated.
"I have to go for a bit. My parents made me go see my cousin then his bride. You just stay here, alright? I'll have someone send some appetisers or any snacks" Chengcheng whispered to you
"Sure thing. Go go, then we can play whilst we wait. Justin is waiting for me right now" you mentioned
"Better be just one game. I'll be back. Don't start the next game without me, tell Justin that I'll take his food next practice if he leaves me out" Chengcheng pointed out, walking away
"Oi!! Watch your step!!" you scolded then went back to playing
Chengcheng's POV
"Why do I have to meet her?" I complained
"Because it's to welcome her into the family" my parents replied
"Ah yes, welcome someone we almost never met into the family" I cursed
"Fan Chengcheng, behave. I heard she's quite lovely" my mom scolded
"Fine. But it better not be long" I scoffed as the security opened the door and I went into my cousin's bride room
"Fan Chengcheng!! I'm so happy you could come to my wedding!!" my cousin's bride exclaimed
"Yea yea. Hold it. You....Jia Xiaoli (random name). You're my cousin's bride?! What trick you got now?!" I threatened standing right in front of her
"No tricks, Cheng. I promise!!" Xiaoli smiled
"Cut the act Xiaoli, you bribed me into dating you and if it wasn't for (y/n), my family would be in jeprodize" I barked at her
"Ahhh right, (y/n). I haven't seen her in a while. How is she?" Xiaoli asked
"She's not your concern. Stay out of my sight and (y/n)'s. And if you ever hurt my family, I'll show you no mercy" I scoffed, banging on the door and returning to where I left (y/n)
Unfortunately, when I arrived back, (y/n) was no where to be seen. I scowered the whole venue yet she wasn't there. I then rushed out to the bathroom, hoping that maybe she was there. I even tried texting her but after 30 minutes and no answer from her at all, I got anxious; like something is wrong here.
I then went out of the venue and contacted Justin if he was talking with (y/n) since they were playing games together. Thankfully, I got somewhat of a lead. Justin mentioned that he's actually on a "call" with (y/n) but he muted his microphone because he heard some other people was on the other line with her. Justin also mentioned that he's trying to track down (y/n) and after a few minutes, Justin sent me her location.
Not caring that the event was starting, I rushed to find (y/n) which turns out, her phone was at one of the hotel rooms of the venue. I then listened to the room first and when I heard (y/n)'s voice, I wasted no time and barged in, dodging all the attacks of the men within the room, knocking them all out one by one and took my jacket off, wrapping it around (y/n).
"Are you ok? Did they hurt you? What did they do?" I asked, pulling (y/n) into a hug
"Nothing, thankfully. They made me go with them and when I felt something was off, I called Justin but put the volume at the lowest, hoping he'll know my situation" (y/n) explained
"It's alright, I'm here. I've also asked Justin to come. C'mon let's get outta here" I mentioned, holding (y/n)'s hand
"Justin? Is he invited? What are you gonna do?" (Y/n) asked
"He'll be invited soon. We got a wedding to crash" I snickered, taking (y/n) away from the scene
Justin Huang
Tumblr media
Tbh, I don't think this pose will really fit into the scenario but I will try. Okie, onto the scenario for Justin!!
For Justin, I imagine that you guys were living together along with Chengcheng, Yanjun and Kun for a film shoot and one night, you and Justin were heading out to buy dinner since the geges were basically passed out.
As the both of you were on your way, Justin noticed some sketchy people stalking the both of you. Justin made sure to keep an eye of them but didn't realise that there were a whole lot more of them that blocked your path and while you did put up quite a fight, you were eventually taken and was out of Justin's sight.
When Justin realised you were gone, he didn't waste any time in calling his geges and immediately went to find where they took you. Justin was definitely certain that they were part of the opposing gang that's always trying to get on ninepercent's nerve.
After a bit of running and even getting his geges help, Justin finally found the hideout and instantly barged in. However, the condition he found you in was not a pretty sight.
⚠️ Trigger Warning!! ⚠️
Not only were you bounded to a chair but it seemed that you were being beaten up, there were visible new purpleish bruises on your legs and cheek, not to mention some part of your clothes were ripped, your hair was messed up and even blood was dripping from your mouth, hands and thighs.
At that moment, something in Justin just flipped. As if he turned off his humanity switch (except for you). No-one was going to block his way to you. If they did, he wouldn't care whether they're a guy or girl, he'll put them down.
One after the other, Justin would break their arms/legs, the sound of their suffering even urged Justin to go even further; to the point where Justin didn't care whether he broke their bones, pulled their muscles or so on.
Once all of them were down on the ground, Justin finally managed to get to you. He crouched down to your height and wrapped his jacket over your shivering body and asked if it was alright to carry you which u only gave him a slight nod; and at the same time his geges arrived at the scene.
"It's alright (y/n). I got you, we're gonna go home now, kay?" Justin cooed you as he carried you in his arms
"Justin?! (Y/N)?! Are you guys alright?!" Kun asked as Yanjun and Chengcheng were prepared to shoot anyone
"Sorry to ask this but please take care of them. Oh and make sure they're still alive. I have unfinished business with them. I'm taking (y/n) back first" Justin requested, walking out of the scene
Lin Yanjun
Tumblr media
Tbh, I'm not a fan of this jacket on Jun XD but his gaze bruh, his gaze!!! 🔥🔥 okie, scenario!!
For this scenario, I imagine that you were in Yanjun's hometown in Taiwan and apparently Yanjun's 10th year high school reunion was coming up and decided to bring you along since he only planned on staying for a bit then take you out elsewhere (also to keep all those girls in line before they lashed out on him)
After getting ready and all, you and Yanjun excused yourselves from Yanjun's parents and went out to the bar where the reunion was held. Ofc, when Yanjun entered, so many of his ex girl classmates were thrilled, until he showed up with you, hand in hand.
Yanjun just nodded and waved at his ex classmates before introducing you then he pulled you to the near corner of the table since he knew that you were somewhat socially awkward.
After having a little drink and snacks, it was now almost 9pm and Yanjun wanted to treat you out to the night market before going home. He asked if you wanted to go now which you gave him a slight nod. He told you that he'll go to the restroom for a bit before you leave.
After his restroom business, one of his ex classmates (a girl) went up to him and talked for a bit. At first it seemed like a simple catch up until she started to clustered the space and asked some personal questions about you. Yanjun was quick to know the situation he was in and immediately took control and straight up turned his ex classmate down, making his way to where he left you.
However, he noticed that some of the guys were trying to flirt with you and it seemed that they were getting a bit touchy that you seemed to be quite uncomfortable. Yanjun knew that coming to the reunion was a bad idea. Not only the majority that came were the school bullies but they were also part of a gang which 9% has been paying a close attention to.
Even so, Yanjun know that you could handle yourself and when your gaze met with Yanjun's, you immediately tried to excuse yourself but then one of the guys gripped your wrist which in return you slapped their hand away and even shoved them back down. Just when you managed to get free of these crazy people, another guy managed to grabbed you and pulled you down but at the same time, a dart flew and hit the the person's hand. Everyone then looked to see Yanjun's killer looks.
As everyone was distracted, you pulled yourself up at the same time Yanjun came and stood in front of you, holding your hand softly. Stroking your knuckles, he asked if they did anything else which you shook your head and told him that they just tried to flirt whilst the girls were already somewhat drunk. Yanjun gave you a slight apologetic smile before going back to his cold gaze towards his ex-classmates.
"Can't you tell when a woman is clearly not interested and taken? The next time you do that to my woman or any sort of girls, it won't be a dart flying and the target surely won't be your hand" Yanjun warned, rubbing your knuckles softly before starting to leave
"You think you're all that huh Yanjun?! Just because you made a name for yourself now, you can do as you please, huh?!" one of the guys challenged
"Heh, I'd watch my mouth if I were you. Wouldn't want people to know about your 'illegal business' or the fact that you've been out with 10 different women this past week, now would you?" Yanjun challenged back, slightly smirking as the guy's face suddenly turned pale
"Thought so. C'mon (y/n), let's get outta here. The night market doesn't close until 11pm" Yanjun whispered, giving you a genuine smile as you went out together hand in hand like how you came in together
Zhu Zhengting
Tumblr media
Mama Ting!! That gaze!! I surrender!! I won't play games till late at night!!! Kay", scenario time!!
Ok, for mama Ting, I feel that he's dating with a normal office worker (aka you), you guys met through mutual friends and for some reason, Zhengting feels at ease whenever he's with you (like, not awkward at all, unlike with most girls).
Zhengting was just waiting at your apartment and cooking up some dinner for the both of you since you told him that you might be coming back late due to an important meeting with your boss.
Once he heard the door unlocked, Zhengting welcomed you with his soft smile and sparkling eyes that was full of love (also open arms) which you gave him a tired smile but immediately hugged him when you've put your things down.
"How was work? What meeting was it? Oh, tell me over dinner. I made your favourites!!" Zhengting mentioned, guiding you to the dining area where he has prepared dinner
"Thank you, Ting. It was a confusing meeting honestly. Like, my boss suddenly asked about my relationship with you" you explained as you started to eat the dinner
"Really? Does your boss know me? Like know know or was he just trying to hit on you?!" Zhengting questioned, his tone getting serious
"Not sure. He was trying to offer me another job which paid quite a lot but it has something to do with my relationship. Like, when I told him that I was in a relationship, he gave this weird look like he wasn't satisfied and just dismissed me. Saying that he'll think about it" you elaborated
"Hmmm. Whatever you do, don't take the job unless he gives you the full details, alright? And if you're worried about money because your current job isn't paying you well, don't fret, I'm here!!" Zhengting exclaimed
"I don't want to leach off of you Ting but yea, I'm not gonna take that job. I'm planning to find a job elsewhere and resign once I reached my one year mark" you explained
"Good!! Now finish up then shower so we can go watch some dramas" Zhengting cheered
It's been roughly a week or so since you told Zhengting about the offer and Zhengting was currently at the bar along with Kun because they had to spy on some men coming to the bar; something about opening a brothel or an illegal business of some sort.
When the people were already there, both Zhengting and Kun split up to get some information out of the men. Nothing in particular really caught the two's attention up until one of the men brought up a file containing your information.
"I'm telling you, she's the best looking one in my company. Not to mention, whenever she wears skinny jeans, it just fits her body so well. Anyone would die to take her and our business will blow up" one of the men mentioned, pointing at a picture of your face
"But you mentioned that she's taken. Are you sure you can get her to join?" the other men asked
"She needs the money. Plus, I can always cut her pay and tell her that this job suits her better" the men mentioned, laughing
But oh boi, they picked on the wrong girl. Because the minute Zhengting heard the conversation and was sure that it was your picture that they used, he immediately gave the guy a good punch in the face, knocking him down and holding a gun up right at his temple.
"I take it you like using helpless woman for your illegal money? Not only that, using them then abusing them before you discard them. How annoying. I'll give you a few minutes to confess everything before I blow up your brainless head" Zhengting barked, his gun was right by the man's temple
"So you're her so-called boyfriend, huh? I'll just kill you here and..." the man scoffed but his scoffed turned into a scream as Zhengting shot the man's leg
"I was wondering who was my girlfriend's boss as he was so daring to ask about her relationship but was unsatisfied when he realised she was taken. Well, this is still consider verbal harrasement, right Kun?" Zhengting snickered
"Sure thing. Since we got some evidence here, pretty sure he'll get fired the second we inform this to the authority. Also, he'll probably lose all his wealth" Kun replied
"Wa-wait a minute?! Kun?! As in the Cai Xukun?! Leader of 9%?! Does that mean...you...you're..." the man stuttered
"Zhengting. Zhu. Zheng. Ting. The so-called boyfriend of the woman you're trying to hire into an illegal business. Oh well, save your breath for the court" Zhengting replied, a smirk plastering his face as the man's face turned very pale
Wang Ziyi
Tumblr media
For this specific picture of Ziyi, I imagine it being a bit similar to mama Ting's one. Where you were just a normal worker, not an idol/actress/artist or even a daughter of a famous company owner. You were just you; which, to Ziyi, you were everything.
Now, unlike the in mama Ting's one, you weren't offered a new job at a new location that was completely different to the one you were currently in. However, the boss of your company did pay a close attention to you. He would often try to flirt with you, send you flowers or even directly asked you out; which of course you declined them all.
This happened even before you met Ziyi. But unfortunately, it still happened even after you've been dating Ziyi. However, it wasn't as bad as when you weren't dating Ziyi. You dunno whether its because he finally started giving up or because he knew you were dating someone since you never really told him you were actually dating someone.
But while your boss may not know that you were dating someone, you did tell Ziyi about how your boss has been flirting with you and all. But we all know how patient Ziyi is. Not only was he patient in hearing your complaints and all but he was also patient with your so-called "boss". Well, that is until he ran into your "boss" at the gym.
You and Ziyi have been going to the gym quite regularly (let's all pretend it aint covid) and normally Ziyi would treat you lunch (which is how he got you to go to the gym with him). So, Ziyi would normally go and do some weight training whilst you just went to do some cardio (like on the treadmill or bicycle).
It was going like normal until you were about to do a bit of weights yourself (like that pull-up weight thing) and as you were going to do your thing, your boss suddenly came up to you and you guessed it, tried to flirt with you.
You tried to tell him off nicely but the same time scanned the room to find Ziyi who was apparently at the boxing area. It took a good 5 minutes or so but Ziyi finally saw you and understood your situation.
He was about to tell the guy off nicely until he saw the guy closing in the space between the both of you near a wall. And lets just say, Ziyi was finally at the peak of his patience and just snapped at the dude.
He pulled the dude back and twisted his arm till you can hear a crack. Ziyi then told your "boss" off and even threatened him because apparently throughout this whole time, Ziyi was doing a lil "background check" on your so-called "boss".
"It's not nice to pick on a lady who's clearly taken. Especially when you, yourself is also taken" Ziyi scoffed, pushing the guy further back
"Aghhh, l-let go off, m-me. This isn't even a fair fight" the guy stuttered as Ziyi pushed the guy who eventually fell downwards
"I suggest you leave and not hit on anyone. Unless, of course, you'd like me to tell your wife about it" Ziyi threatened, taking his phone out and showing the guy some pics of his affair
"I, I'll get lost. Just don't show this to my wife or anyone" the guy babbled, rushing to leave the scene
"C'mon (y/n), let's go get lunch at your favourite" Ziyi mentioned, grabbing your hand and giving you his signature (yet sweet) smile Xiaogui
Tumblr media
For Xiaogui, I imagine that he was the owner of a well renowned bar in Shanghai. It's been a tough week for you and when you told Xiaogui all about it, he felt sorry that he flew all the way to where you work, telling you that he'll stay over the weekend so the two of you can have a chill weekend together.
But, on the way back to your place, Xiaogui got a call from the bar about someone looking for him. He asked you for permission which you know that it was his bar and so you told him that it's alright. He gave your hand a light squeeze before speeding up to the bar.
Upon reaching the bar, he directed you to a secret door which led to his private office. He told you to just stay there whilst he takes care of the things at the bar.
However, not long after Xiaogui left, you suddenly had a bad feeling, as if you were being watched or something. You weren't dumb and you knew that Xiaogui hid his gun in his office (I mean, the dude taught you how to do self-defense and how to use a gun). You went over his desk trying to find the gun but the secone you held it, you felt a gun being pointed at the back of your head.
"You know, what ghost around, comes around" a deep voice mentioned, the gun being pressed by your head
"Now be a good girl and put the gun down" the man stated as you slowly put the gun down but only to make him lower his guard so you quickly upperhand him by taking his gun
As you manage to upperhand the attacker, he started to attack you which was not good. Sure, Xiaogui taught you a thing or two but when you're faced with it in real-life, that's a different story. You tried to keep your composure and threw his gun far away so it'll just be a hand to hand combat but you were still at a disadvantage.
You were already being cornered and as you took the nearest object as a weapon/shield, the attacker told you that you were no match for him. But as he was just a hand reach away, the door slammed opened and a bullet was shot right at the attacker's chest, close to his heart. You divert your gaze only to meet with Xiaogui's gaze.
"Touch her one more time and I'll make sure you live a living hell before I actually send you to hell, myself" Xiaogui stated, a signature grin was plastered on his face when he saw the attacker fell on the floor You Zhangjing
Tumblr media
If Imma be honest, this was another hard scenario but here goes nothing.
So, for Zhangjing's scenario, I imagined that you, Zhangjing, Yanjun and Nongnong had to attend this special dinner that the opposite gang was going since they had some deals to handle.
You knew that it was quite a risk by going but they needed someone to come with them so it wouldn't seem too obvious that they were planning on handling the opposite gang. Plus, you get free food so that was a major plus.
Which is how you ended up in a little black dress with your arms linked with Zhangjing and Nongnong as Yanjun was in front of you, all four of you making your way to the ballroom hall of the hotel the dinner was being held.
Yanjun, being Yanjun and the third person in charge in 9% reminded everyone of their jobs. Also reminded you to stay near by them and let any one of them know when you wanted to go somewhere like the bathroom or some sort.
After rediscussing the plan, Yanjun was the first to excuse himself because he was the hitman of the group. Nongnong also left to mingle around and get some information. Which meant, it was you and Zhangjing.
Of course, it was no surprised that the two of you immediately headed to where the food is. The both of you were enjoying the food and occasionally talk with the other guests at the dinner until Yanjun called Zhangjing to request some hacking which Zhangjing proceed in doing.
But in the midst of hacking, you had the urge to go to the bathroom and told Zhangjing that I was gonna go which he told me to quickly go and come right back to his side which you agreed.
After finishing with your bathroom business, you went out to try and find where Zhangjing was but got a bit lost and this dude was trying to get on my nerve even after you declined him so many times. I mean, one Yanjun is more than enough.
But when this guy was persistent, you decided to fight back which he clearly didn't like at all. You knew lots of fighting skills and self-defence stuff by being with 9% for a long time. Heck, you were their most trusted person other than each other.
As you were about to end this little disturbance, the guy was knocked out cold and you saw You Zhangjing out of the 3 men you came with. His gaze could rival Yanjun (emphasis on could XD)
"Can't we just have one night of dinner in peace? Haish. C'mon (y/n), let's go back and enjoy our dinner" Zhangjing stated, extending his hand out as you went to grab it
"You know I had it under control" you stated, pouting
"I know. But I wanted it over with, plus the deal is done and we can go order in with everyone" Zhangjing exclaimed as the both of you skidded through the hall

how to lose someone in seven steps? | prologue
— summary: love-induced heartbreak is one of the most overrated things to ever be talked about, and she doesn’t get why most of her friends take up on such conversations with sighs following every statement. relationships aren’t something to linger on—but when one of her friends dares her to make one of their infamous exes, whom they had a hard time getting over with, fall in love with her, she takes up on the challenge. earning them? easy. losing them? even easier.

She once said she’d die the day she fell in love.
It’s one of those rare concepts that her literature teacher loved gushing about when she wrote them on paper. Dying for love, actually, has been romanticized for as long as she can remember. Think The Notebook or Romeo and Juliet—hell, even The Walking Dead could enter in this category in some of their episodes. The toxicity of such matter, however, goes past what she has ever wanted to portray when saying those words. She’d die if she ever were to fall in love.
Because, falling in love feels like dying, and though she hasn’t lived it, she can tell by the look on her friends’ eyes whenever they got their heart stepped on, munched, bitten, spat out at their feet—whatever. Promises of never going through the same thing lived inside her head when she had to push one of her friend’s hair back to have them throw up on the club’s flooring, crying after a break-up. Or, rather, when she saw one of her friends skimming through Instagram for the twelfth time that day and, yes, absolutely, her boyfriend is, still, liking the pictures of a bunch of women with cup sizes bigger than hers.
It’s unnecessary. People dream about it, hear songs about it, but they never quite think about how much they could avoid if they didn’t go around seeking for love, or for one-time-things that will only end up in another person getting entangled. It’s the common mistake of never getting to know another person well, and hence, never getting to know oneself nicely enough. Love starts from the moment we give our first breath.
As of currently, her friend Ada can’t breathe. Or, well, she can—but she chooses not to as she downs yet another shot and weeps at the memory of her latest break up.
The food settled on the table in between the group of eight women smells delicious, but no one has payed enough attention to the meal itself and rather, downed a few drinks for the sake of making Ada feel better. With her makeup running down her chubby cheeks, her once long brown hair cut into a bob after the break-up that has kept her crying for the past two days, and her hands shakingly reaching for the soju to pour some more, she finally takes the first bite of the salad she had ordered, eyes glimpsing at what she never wants to have.
Heartbreak is the ugliest, yet most overrated, thing that could ever happen in this world.
The kind of beauty a woman possesses when getting into a relationship erases itself when she’s out of it. It’s momentary, sure, she’s well aware that Ada will go back to her bubbly, adorable self one of these days, but it’s neither tomorrow nor the next day. “I—I just don’t get it—” And, preferably, the people on the table next to them must not get it as well. They have been snooping on what Ada has been worrying about for the past thirty minutes. “The sex was good. The kisses were good. I just—Why did he have to be such an asshole at the end?”
Ada believes in happy endings, though. When they were children—and she’s one of her oldest friends—, she’d always dress up as Cinderella on Halloween, throwing her shoe around in hopes of someone catching it and looking for her. No one did, but one can only dream. “Baby,” Elena, the classiest of the group, takes out a small handkerchief from her purse before patting it against Ada’s moist cheeks. “That’s what you get for dating an exotic dancer. Who thinks an exotic dancer is going to settle down for them?” She pushes her long black hair away from her shoulders, her porcelain skin matching the deep burgundy of her plush lips. Elena’s beauty is unmatchable.
“I did, b—but…” There it is, the worry, the excuses that come with dating a man. “But Yukhei just seemed different. He always talked about his dreams…and about how pretty he thought I was. It just—” Before she could refill her glass with soju, she takes the bottle away from her.
Heartbreak may have never reached her, but she’s not letting it affect her friend. “Ada, stop it. Enough alcohol for today. Grab a bite or something.”
“Ah!” Ada, as dramatic as always, pushes her head back. “Stop babying me, you’ve all been in this position. Just let me motherfucking drink—!”
Elena sighs from her spot, fingertips running over the glassed table of the restaurant they’re in. Red curtains over glassed windows who trail over the lightened-up city, matching the champagne colored walls. “I didn’t act like this when I broke up with Kun.”
Yifei, who has just come back to the table after a smoke break, ruffles the curled up strands of her bleached blonde hair before scoffing. “That’s because you didn’t love Kun, honey.” Taking her bomber jacket off, she lets her tattoos be on full display, roses and thorns the most outstanding one. “You’ll know what real love is when they leave you for someone else, not when you’re the one leaving.”
“…Damn.” Ada whispers from her spot, licking the outline of her shot glass before sighing. “Did Kun Hang hurt you that much?”
Yifei has thick skin, hurts in ways that no one ever notices, and her love affair from four years ago still lingers within her. “It’s not exactly pain, but when your high school love admits that he’s been in love with this old ass businesswoman for the entirety of your months-long relationship, it hurts.”
“That was four years ago,” Elena answers, swatting her hand in the air. “Besides, I was in love with Kun, but contrary to your two guys…he loved too much. I felt like I was being constricted and, girls, I am a chef—” Pride bleeds from her every word when she takes a sip of her pink champagne. “I know when bad things are cooking up, and Kun was a big red sign for clingy.”
A hiss leaves her lips then, rubbing her hands together. “Oh, damn, we’re getting good spice today, aren’t we? Tearing your exes apart!”
It’s fun—it’s the kind of activity they have to do to have Ada smiling at them. “Well, Ada, now that you’re single, some advice:” Liying speaks from her spot, fixing her perfectly sleeked back bun just to grab a bite of the immaculately prepared carbonara pasta in front of them, twirling her fork in the air. “Never go for younger guys. I went for a college guy, thinking that because he didn’t have much experience, he’d go to me, and because he was rich as all hell, I thought he’d pay for everything…” Liying’s voice trails dangerously, her face without an ounce of makeup scrunching up in disgust. “But younger guys? They’re insecure, end of story.”
It’s a bit difficult to remember who had swept Liying off her feet, considering she’s now happily in a relationship with a journalist. “Who was that again?” She asks, well aware that she is the only one who has stayed single for the majority of their friendship, and Liying turns to the side to look at her.
“Liu Yangyang. Rich nightmare.”
Yifei whistles from her side. “But he was rich. That’s always a plus.”
“Not when he’s always texting you, Yifei.” Liying conquers, pursing her lips in the process. “Like, babe, like, are you sure that you didn’t, like, sleep with someone while I was in Germany? Like, babe, really, like, it is better if you just tell me. Like. Like. Like.” She repeats over and over again, and it’s at this moment that her brain clicks. Right. Liu Yangyang…Liying had introduced her to him once at her birthday event, but she doesn’t remember much from him.
The women around the table burst with laughter, and she looks towards another one of her friends, trying to make Ada feel better. “This group of friends was formed because we all have shitty tastes in men,” Angela instructs, moving her bangs off her forehead to showcase her big eyes, wetting her lips with her drink before hissing. “You remember my ex Ten, Ada? Sometimes, when we slept together, I used to think he was actually getting off to the thought of himself.”
Elena actually snorts at those words, and to have elegant Elena Wang give such reaction means that it is something truly interesting. “No way!”
“Yes! He was too vain. Everything he said was amen.” Angela raises her hands in the air, sighing deeply. “I was saved the day he decided to break up with me.”
She turns to the quiet woman to the side, Shishi’s platinum hair cascading down her back, her thick eyeliner definitely something outstanding about her. “What about you, Shishi?”
“I broke up with someone not too long ago…” The quiet woman says, though the entire table already knows about that.
Yifei groans. “Come on, Shishi, let it out!”
“Fencer asshole.” Shishi, who rarely cusses, lets it out in the air, wrapping her hand snugly around her fork. “Xiao Dejun liked every woman who had good makeup skills. Wear red lipstick and you’re ready to get on his good list.”
Someone lifts their gaze from her phone—Bingbing, happily in a relationship for the last two years, lover of men with smart mouths to carry on with her perfect texting skills. “Can I talk shit about my ex, too?”
“Aren’t you happily married?” She questions, only to have Bingbing waving her phone in the air.
“And I’m keeping my relationship alive because of what I learned.” Bingbing replies, pushing her body forward and resting her head on her interlocked hands. “If a man is hard to decipher, he’s just not that into you. Men are simple creatures, you see.”
“Word to that!” Ada says from her spot, a hiccup following soon after. “Men are simple creatures, because they can’t be considered human.”
For a moment, silence falls around the table and she takes this time to lose herself in the taste of lettuce, tomato and onions sliced together into a perfect concoction with rosy sauce on top. Only when she takes a big bite, downing it with a bit of water, does she realize that all pair of eyes are settled on her. Fourteen eyes capturing her every move is already enough of a terrifying visual.
“What?” Her voice lifts a bit after she says those words, patting a napkin against her lips in case there is something on her lips.
Ada rolls her eyes, too much alcohol taking away her dulcet features. “Babe, tell us about your biggest heartbreak. The biggest asshole you’ve met.”
For a moment, she tries to think. The last date she had was over a year ago…and after losing her time with someone who actually didn’t want to be with her, she cut things off. Not that it hurt, just that she simply decided not to continue dating. It’s a waste of time, seriously.
“I’ve never…had anyone break my heart. If you don’t let anyone do that, it doesn’t happen.” Or so she wants to believe. She never wants to give anyone the benefit of the doubt.
“Come on,” Ada replies, taking her phone out of her pocket and looking for something before turning the screen to her. “Tell me you wouldn’t fall for someone like this. You just have dated people who are not worth a heartbreak, I guess.” A golden skinned man meets her vision, and it’s the first time she has seen Yukhei. His brown hair parts naturally, the dimly lit room letting her see the curve of his plush lips, the straightness of his nose and his big, almost doe, eyes. A glint of sweat trails up his biceps as he places one hand on his head, his collarbones on full display on the picture, and though the image does not go lower, she can tell he’s shirtless.
Attractive and yet, she shrugs. “Too typically handsome. I wouldn’t consider him my type.”
“What she wants is the absolute opposite,” Elena says, already rummaging through her social media. “A goody-two-shoes who would leave everything behind for you: Qian Kun.”
This time around, she gets to see a picture directly from Instagram. This guy’s hair is darker, sporting a chef’s uniform as he lifts a tray of food up into the air. Exquisite at its finest, but he’s not bad looking in any way. Slim lips welcoming a big smile, eyes twinkling in innocence, looking too posh to ever make a mistake. “…Not bad, I like the dimple. He seems too good to break your heart, though.”
“What about an artistic guy?” Angela says from her spot, showing her own phone but from another account. This breakup must’ve been messier, she guesses. “I’m sure you’d get your heart broken by Ten. He’s just…too risqué, you fall for him without thinking.”
This man is seated on a leather couch, a camera up to his face, one of his eyes squinted but the one that is opened lets her see the cat-shaped form of them. His lips are slim, though the glimmer of his cheeks is the perfect highlight, tattoos shaping his form, his legs ones to desire. “Nah, he couldn’t break my heart even if he wanted to.”
It becomes a competition, with Shishi rushing to find the pictures she saved on her phone of her latest relationship, clinging to the side of a man in a white uniform. His eyes are an enigma, though the smile on his face is sweet, his brown hair pushed away from his face. “What about the fencer asshole, Xiao Dejun?”
“He’s okay.”
Then, Liying refreshes her memory of Liu Yangyang. Seated in between a big group of people with a smile on his face, his surroundings rich enough to point out in what kind of party he is, the suit on his body deep blue like the ocean. “What about younger guys? Maybe, she just needs someone who is reckless—”
“I’d crush his heart.” Overconfidence starts to take up on her, taking a sip of her drink. “Give me a better shot.”
Yifei, one of her latest options, pushes her phone forward. “What about Kun Hang?”
She remembers Kun Hang, and the man may be gorgeous—but his goofy ways don’t figure him out as a heartbreaker. “We’d be great friends. I doubt we’d even get together.”
“Last chance, ladies!” Bingbing stands from her seat to get over her, wrapping one arm around her shoulder before showing her the screen. This man is more simplistic, his black hair covering most of his forehead, though the prettiness of his face is not to be missed, plump lips, nicely rounded cheeks, and a look on his eyes that screams ‘boy-next-door’. “Is Dong Sicheng the kind of guy who’d break your heart?”
“Girls,” She says, pushing Bingbing’s phone away before chuckling. “You just give people the power to hurt you. I could make any of these men cry for me if I just put my mind into it. Heartbreak is mental, no matter how much people try to say it isn’t.”
Shishi deadpans, then. “Break one of their hearts and we’ll believe you.”
Ada must have seen a goddess right at that moment, with wings and promises that have her widening her eyes and smacking her hands against the table. God, she’ll be lucky if people stop looking at them for once tonight. “Yes! You can pick someone and break their hearts, and teach us your ways!”
“I doubt this is a good idea…” Elena whispers, though Ada shakes her head.
“Raise your hand if you want her to break your ex’s heart.”
Six hands are raised, and Elena raises it with one final sigh.
It’s one of those ‘a rush in the moment’ things, when adrenaline pumps inside her body too quickly and she’s overexcited. Very rarely does someone feel like this in adulthood—as if youth and power lasts forever, so she puts one hand forward. “Put all your phones down with the pictures of the guys whose heart you want me to break, and I’ll pick someone.”
Cheers fill the air for the tale of a bad idea given by alcohol, but she feels powerful, staring at a group of men that she doesn’t know—men she should hate for breaking the hearts of those whom she loves. It shouldn’t be that difficult, right? If they were able to break her friends’ hearts, she can do the same thing.
Her hand hovers in the air, pondering, seeing, letting her mind choose who would be the easiest, who deserves it the most. A challenge, that’s what she wants—
And a smile appears on her face when she grabs certain phone.

A Change of Season
Genre(s): Fluff, Fantasy Pairing: Yixing x Reader  Word Count: 4.1k
This is my gift for @chicken-fifi for the @exolssecretsanta event! I hope you enjoy this take on dad!Xing. Happy Holidays!
Tumblr media
When Mae stampedes back into the house, a whole host of critters follow her in. A young fox kit bolts between your legs, a hawk chasing after it. You shoo away a curious chipmunk, intent on investigating the roasted chestnuts you've set out to cool. Bingo, the white hare that has followed your daughter since she celebrated her first birthday, runs in next with a little leap of joy. And rounding out the procession is Yixing, who walks into the room with a sheepish expression.
Melting ice and snow puddle along the floor like little cookie crumbs trails that lead to what is apparently a whole forest's worth of animals in your house, your daughter included. You and your husband exchange a familiar look, one of equal parts fondness and exasperation.
You beat him to placing a finger on your nose.
“Not it!” you crow victoriously.
Yixing laughs and hangs up his scarf, resigned to animal round-up duty.
You smile and hand the chipmunk, who has returned for a second attempt at pilfering, a chestnut. You watch with amusement as he promptly stuffs it in his mouth. This is the enchanted life you've become used to ever since your daughter was born.
**
After a dinner of rich stew and homemade bread, Mae totes her father off to play, leaving you to clean the dishes. She had not been happy with him after he had herded the last woodland creature out the door, so you're glad that she seems to either have forgiven him or forgotten.
Your mind drifts as you begin washing up. The window over the sink affords you a view of the backyard and the forest that abuts it. It had snowed long and hard the past two days, but tonight the sky is clear. The evergreens appear like frosty giants in the evening with their wintry snow coats aglow.
Winter is your favorite time of year. Your family bundles up inside together against the cold, a cozy intimacy that no other season can seem to replicate. Dinners are warm affairs, full of good food, laughter, and Mae's cheerful chatter. It feels, for a time at least, that you exist outside of the rest of the world. The only sounds are of birds, the crack of branches and the snow falling from them, then crunching beneath your feet. You never want it to end.
Such thoughts and reminiscing help pass the time, and soon enough you are drying the last dish and setting it back in the cupboard. The quiet strikes you then and pulls you into the living room in its wake.
Already Mae has fallen asleep, the gentle glow of Christmas lights dancing blue, orange, white upon her eyelashes. Yixing cradles your daughter in his arms, bending his head low to sweep his lips against her cheek. The fire he had kindled hours ago crackles dimly in the background. Bingo, ever watchful, has curled up beneath the Christmas tree to keep an eye on his sleeping charge.
A deep-seated happiness burns within you. You promise yourself to commit this moment to memory.
You come up behind your husband and touch his shoulder. When he looks up, tears sparkle in the corners of his eyes.
“Yixing?”
“She's getting so big,” he whispers. “I remember when she was just a baby. Her whole hand could only wrap around one finger. And now she already knows how to talk.”
You wrap yourself around him and feel the reciprocating bittersweet ache of your child growing up. “Oh, Yixing,” you whisper back. “We're parents for the rest of our lives,” you murmur as you rest your head on his shoulder. “She'll always be our baby.”
**
Eventually, Yixing puts Mae to bed. She stirs from her sleep, brow scrunching. Bingo hops onto the bed and slips into her arms. You sweep her fringe away and lay a kiss as gentle as snowfall on her forehead. Only then does she relax and slip back into sleep.
Arms slips around your waist and spin you. Yixing holds you loosely in the circle of his arms. He catches your gaze, eyes sleepy and affectionate. Mae's nightlight projects snow drifting down the walls around you.
“Love you,” he says.
No matter how many times you hear it, you always have to fight down the sudden spike in your pulse, the warming of your cheeks.
“You're just jealous I haven't given you your kiss yet.”
He's smiling, the shadow of his dimple a deep dark. “How'd you know?”
You smile knowingly. “Love you, too,” you whisper back before finally giving him the kiss he's been waiting for.
**
You dream that night. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that you remember.
One spring day, when the first buds appeared on the trees, Mae was taken. You had been sleeping, and then you weren't. A great clattering came from down the stairs. Mae's crib was gone. You scrabbled out of bed, crying out “Mae!” Yixing jerked awake behind you, but you couldn't linger. There was no time to explain.
You sprinted downstairs to see two white-tailed deer dragging the crib out of the house. Vines had sprouted from the crib's wooden legs and attached themselves to the halters of the 12-point bucks. The backdoor was open and they were making a dash for the woods.
“No!” you shouted, leaping after them. You managed to grab onto one of the rails. Bingo peered at you over the edge. They were going so fast, they were dragging you through the remaining snow, which that night measured a scant inch. Snow and slush slid into your shirt. I can't hold on, you realized with  creeping horror. And just as you thought it, you jolted as the deer dragged you over the jagged end of a rock. Your fingers slipped and you came a halt, curling around the bruise blooming on your ribs.
A breeze whisked by you and you glanced up through tears to see Yixing racing into the forest after your baby.
Minutes, hours went by, and then a blinding flash, brighter than lightning, blazed through the woods. The howl of soul in despair rang out after like thunder.
You were already crying by the time Yixing came back, carrying something. He looked up at you, devastated.
In his hands hovered the most perfect snowflake you had ever seen.
**
Mae sits at the table drawing with Yixing. Crayons scatter across the table in a mess of color. Some have rolled off the edge. Yixing holds one captive, rolling it back and forth on the ground with a socked foot.
“What are you drawing?” you ask Mae.
“This is you!” she says, pointing to a vaguely human-like shape. There is a concerning red blotch by the head. A smaller blob she declares to be herself, and Bingo a small circle that you had thought was a foot at first.
“And where am I?” asks Yixing.
Mae points to her father's drawing.
“I'm a sheep?” he asked, confused.
“No! A bunny,” she says back.
You stifle a laugh as Yixing looks even more confused.
Mae traces the sheep's horns. “These are its ears.” Yixing nods thoughtfully, then scrawls over the paper to make the sheep more bunny-like
He's such a good father, you think. He is patient, and kind. He listens to her and responds sincerely. You are profoundly in love with them, with your family and its small place in the world.
The two drawings hang from the refrigerator later that evening. You can hear Yixing playing with Mae in the living room, bouncing her up and down on his lap as she giggles and shrieks “Horsey!” Mae has labeled each figure in indecipherable symbols, but underneath one, in handwriting too elegant to be a child's hand, reads Daddy. It is undeniable a bunny.
**
You had long been suspicious of Bingo. He was no ordinary hare. But you had never been more suspicious of him than when your daughter came home this year.
It was the first snow of the year, and you and Yixing had been standing outside for hours already in the cold so that you didn't miss it. And there! To your left, a bright light had flashed in the forest. You were the first to find Mae and you fell on your knees before her.
“Oh, baby,” you said, cradling her cheeks in your hands, checking her over for any injuries. She was dressed in a similar foreign garment as last time, this one made of a pale pink shimmering gossamer.
“Where have you been?” you cried. She was old enough now, if she could just tell you where she went, then maybe....
And that was the first time you noticed it. The way your daughter fell silent and stared at the white hare.
She looked you full in the eyes a moment later and said, “Bingbing says I can't tell you yet.”
Yixing came at that moment and swept her into his arms.
“Don't leave us again,” he said, voice muffled against her. “Promise me that you won't go.”
“Daddy!” Mae complained, squirming in his hold. She looked at you plaintively over his shoulder and pouted. “I'm hungry.”
**
The first time it happened, you thought you'd lost your daughter forever. You had grieved with the force of a death. And then you woke up on the first day of snowfall to see a white hare on your chest.
“Mae...” came Yixing's hoarse voice besides you. You turned and saw your daughter in her crib beside the bed. Two seasons had come and gone, and she had clearly kept growing the months you'd been apart. But she watched you with those same keen eyes like she knew exactly who you.
“Did you...bring her back?” you asked, turning back to the white hare. Bingo merely twitched his nose a few times. He seemed to be staring right at you.
“Thank you,” you whispered. You rested a tentative hand on the hare, who close its eyes in acceptance. After another moment, it jumped away.
Yixing watched you with wide eyes, Mae already cradled in his arms. You wrapped your arms around the both of them. “I love you so much,” you whispered in a voice choked with tears. “I am so lucky to have you both.”
**
It snows again the next day. You're not sure who's more excited about it, you or your daughter. Yixing struggles to get Mae kitted out for the weather, and you practically trip over yourself to shove your boots and hat on at the same time.
You had spent your free time this fall building a sled. You had cobbled all the pieces together yourself: the polished wood, the metal runners, the string that worked the rudder like reins on a horse. The winters have only grown longer since Mae was born, and you want to enjoy it while you can.
You start to wax up the candles with a broken candle when Mae huffs and puffs her way over to you, stretching up to try and reach your hand.
“No, mommy! I want to do it.”
You laugh and hand her the piece of candle. You wrap your fingers around hers, two-times clumsy with her gloves on, and help her slide the wax on the metal, lifting your daughter up when she can no longer reach.
“Perfect!” you declare when you finish with the second runner. “Thank you for your help, my little elfling.” You pinch her nose lightly and she giggles and runs to her dad.
All of you, Bingo included, pile out into the snow. You and Mae get the honors of the inaugural sled ride. Yixing bursts into a run first, yelling “race you down the hill!”
“Get him, mommy!” Mae yells, trying to scoot the sled forward. You kick off, and soon the two of you are zooming. You catch up with Yixing easily and then you are past, far past, trees blurring by.
The sled finally comes to a rest and Mae is still laughing. She has already hopped off the sled and is tugging on you, wanting to do it all over again. You roll off the sled, feeling about as dexterous as a marshmallow. Then you stand and survey how very long you have to climb back up.
“Come on, Mommy,” Mae says, slipping her hand into yours. The two of you walk forward in silence for a minute before you ask, “Where's your daddy, Mae?”
She runs forward, Bingo dashing after her, and you call after them not to go too far by themselves. Your warning is half-hearted, though. The woods welcome Mae like a friend. Even now, cardinals flock to the branches around her, bright splashes of red against the snow like trail marks pointing straight to her. There is an undeniable magic to your child. You have a feeling that nothing could hurt her, and the only thing that could take her is a force that you have no way of stopping.
The sled glides easily back up the hill—you do your best to keep it in the tracks you left on the way down. You eye the branches of the trees along the climb. Not one of the deciduous trees you spy has a single hint of a bud upon its branches. You heave a sigh in relief.
You're the one who stumbles across Yixing first. He has fallen backwards into the snow, his phone lying on his chest, staring up at the sky. You can't resist—you pick his phone up and take a few pictures of him, rosy cheeked, haloed in snow.
You pocket his phone and stretch a hand out for him. Mae comes barreling towards the two of you, yelling “Daddy!”
Yixing takes your hand with a smile.
“I guess you guys won.”
**
Later that night, Yixing shows you a video on his phone. He was filming the entire sled race. You watch second hand as you tuck Mae between your legs and wrap an arm around her. Suddenly, the camera is jerking forward, Yixing's muffled challenge to a race humming through the speaker. You hear his huffed laughter, the crunch of snow and the way his jacket sleeves rub against his sides as he runs. All of a sudden, you and Mae streak by, Mae squealing, and then the world topples. From white to black to white again, you hear Yixing trip, the sound of his breath knocked out of him in a single oof. Miraculously, he manages to keep a grip on his phone.
He lays there, camera facing the sky. All you hear is him breathing. A couple of snowflakes drift by and just miss landing on the lens. You feel oddly self-conscious when you show up onscreen. Is that what you looked like? A wide grin split your face, your hair windblown. You look down at Yixing with what is unmistakably love.
The video ends when you grab the phone to take pictures of Yixing (which you have already bullied him into sending you).
“I love watching you with Mae,” he confesses as the two of you lay in bed. Your bodies have curved inward, seeking the presence of the other. His fingers wrap around yours.
“Your smile, how tender you are...” Yixing turns and presses his face against your neck. “I love you both so much,” he says.
**
Mae becomes increasingly more cuddly as winter wears on. It's difficult to put her to bed. She'll cry long into the night, begging to sleep with you and Yixing. More and more, one of the two of you would cave  in. She would crawl into your bed and rest in the warm hollow between your two bodies. Soon, neither of you bothered with carrying her to her bed.
How could either of you resist when you already had so little time with her? You want to hold her close just as much as she wants to be held. Everyday, you find her napping with Yixing, laid out along his chest and stomach. Your phone album is full of pictures of the two of them together.
Yixing said she took after you. But you see all the ways in which Mae takes after her father. The shape of her eyes. Her brilliant dimples. Her wavy hair. You had taken far too many pictures of them waking from a nap together, sporting matching cases of wild bedhead. It is the most adorable sight you have ever seen.
**
It happens earlier this year than it ever has before. On Christmas Day, Mae disappears. You race outside, going tree to tree, looking for the sight of even a hint of a bud. But there is nothing.
Hours pass in the woods, but they feel barren. You hunt for even a hint that Mae has been there, but find not even footprints. The forest is quiet and empty. For the first time, you feel the loneliness of winter.
You trudge into the house, numb from cold and disbelief. Yixing looks equally as hollow. “Bingo's still here,” he says hoarsely. And the two of you collapse towards each other with the gravity of your anguish. Why is this happening, you wonder.
Later that night, you wander in Mae's room. Lying atop her pillow is a single brilliant snowflake and a white hare.
**
Spring marches in with a a triumph. The flowers are riotously beautiful—bashful pinks, velvety reds, radiant yellows, and inky purples. All the life that winter has lacked bursts forth with a vengeance. And still, Mae is gone.
Bingo spends most of his time outdoors now. The sight of him upsets Yixing, which in turn upsets you. But outside of your husband's sights, you take some comfort in the hare's presence. He joins you on walks through the forest, thin tethers to a time before. You while away most of your days there now.
Where you have turned to the forest, Yixing haunts the threshold to Mae's room. He doesn't go in. He simply stares, watching the snowflake that never melts. You suspect that he's waiting for the moment it disappears so he'll know exactly when Mae has returned.
Neither of you have been sleeping much, nor well. The house is quiet, as if it's waiting with the two of you. It feels like the first time she disappeared all over again. A part of you, one you can never confess having to Yixing, thinks that she will never come back. Not this time.
**
One morning, you awake and find Yixing gone. You frown and throw the bedsheets off. Yixing never gets up before me. You slip downstairs and find yourself standing in front of Mae's room. The snowflake is gone.
“Yixing?” you call out, with real concern now.
It is quiet still. A pot of coffee rests on the counter. A half-empty mug sits abandoned on the dining room table, the chair still pulled out.
The backdoor is open.
“No,” you gasp, and stagger outside.
Yixing is nowhere in sight, but you know he must be in the forest. What is he doing. You hesitate at the edge of the woods. You've spent hours amounting to days in this forest, and yet it suddenly appears to you a maze. He could be anywhere.
And then you hear it. A chorus of whistles. And like magic, a path marked by the red of cardinals appears before you. You hurtle along it, crashing through bracken and bramble, until you see the sight of a very familiar back.
Yixing whirls around. In his hands is the snowflake.
“Look here,” he says, pointing to the snowflake. “The gates are open.” You gaze at the snowflake. It is like ice, or glass—clear enough to see through to Yixing's palm on the other side. All six points of the snowflake are perfectly formed like castle spires or a knight's sword, and at its hub is a beautiful ice castle with open gates.
You look up at Yixing. “The gates weren't open before,” he says. “There's a path,” he continues, body already half-turning, “the hare....There!”
He takes off, and you see the flash of a hare disappearing in the distance.
The two of you race after Bingo. The world flashes by in colors and noise, simultaneously real and insubstantial. You feel the burn of your lungs, the jolt that goes up your legs with each stride. All you have to do is follow Yixing. He is a few feet in front of you until.
He isn't.
You try to stop, but your momentum carries you forward. You break through the edge of the trees and slide right over the edge of a blind ravine. You try reaching for the scraggliest tree you have ever seen jutting from the cliff face, but it uproots and you, and it, plummet
down
down
down
onto warmth. Thick white blankets your lap. Yixing sits ahead of you, looking just as shell-shocked as you feel.
“It's about time,” rumbles forth a voice from beneath. You realize all of a sudden that you are sitting astride the most gigantic white hare you have ever seen.
The hare comes to a halt, lowering itself. With a gentle shake, both you and Yixing are deposited on the ground.
You gape at your surroundings. It is starless night, yet everything is awash in a glow of blue. Frost blankets the world as far as your eye can see. Without the warmth of the hare, the cold bites deep into you, undeterred by the thin pajamas you had rushed out in.
A sudden wind blows, and you shield your eyes against it. A man, or something like it, lands before you. Wings arch away from his back and a small fount of feathers sprout from his red hair, whereas his eyebrows and beard are a trim black.
“Welcome, Starbearer. Welcome, Woodweaver.” His voice is musical.
You and Yixing stare perplexed at the winged man. He approaches Yixing first.
“Thank you for returning the First Star. We humbly accept this gift.”
For the snowflake in Yixing's palms had turned into a blazing light. Warmth radiates from it, reaching you even from where you stand. The man bows his head, cupping his hands beneath Yixing's and then pushes them both up. You watch as the star ascends from its cradle in Yixing's palms until it streaks into the night sky. It settles into place, and soon, begins to color night into day.
The man approaches you next.
“Thank you for returning the First Tree. We humbly accept this gift.”
This time, the man places his hands over yours and pushes down. The scraggly tree, which you had been holding onto all this time, immediately roots itself into the ground and begins to flower and leaf. Soft showers of iridescent petals drift around you.
Morning dawns over the land and sweeps the ice away. Grass has sprouted beneath your feet, and little flowers like fireworks burst into bloom. You gasp. In the distance, you catch sight of a familiar castle, with spires that spear the sky. It glimmers golden in the sunshine.
“I apologize. We have been looking for you for a long time, however your daughter was an unforeseen element that confounded our agents.” He gestures with a wing to two white-tailed deer and a white hare. “All this time, we expected it to be one person when we needed two.”  He shakes his head, feathers ruffling.
“But I digress. You have brought with you the first new season. Starvale thanks you.”
The winged man observes you both for a moment, then gives a brisk nod, the plume at his front rising.
“Daddy!”
Like a reflex, Yixing drops and gathers Mae into his arms. You find yourself in the mix a moment later. You shake with sobs, pressed cheek to cheek with your daughter. Yixing pours kisses all over both of you, much to Mae's chagrin. She is wearing the same kind of garment as before, this one with real twigs and berries stitched into it. Some berries get crushed, staining the fabric around it in halos of red.
“Will you stay?” she asks. Her eyes are wide and watery, her little hands clutching fistfuls of Yixing's sweater.
“You have my heart,” Yixing answers, helplessly in love. “For the two loves of my life, I would capture every star in the sky if I had to.”
**
And so, the family stayed on in Starvale.
The Starbearer walked the lands to bring morning and night. The Woodweaver felled trees and scattered seeds to make the forests grow. And their Herald of Joy showed the world what great love is capable of.

Power Rider Hybrid
Tumblr media
(Logo by@riceyhot)
A group called the Alloy Army commissioned several laboratories to create the next big technological wave. One group discovered a way to harness the essence of a living creature or an object into bottles creating a type of fuel they dubbed Fuelsion (fuel + fusion). Hybrid Laboratories learned they intended to use their discovery as a weapon and refused to hand it over to the Alloy Army. They decided to use it to create new technological marvels. However the Alloy Army was not fond of being rejected and used a mole to steal their research injuring a scientist in the process. Eventually Hybrid Labs was ready to test their Fuelsion and put a call out for test subjects. One of the volunteers was a young woman named Samantha, a genius without motivation she found herself interested by the concept. However during the test the Alloy Army attacked to steal the rest of the research. The Army reveals they have created monsters called Fusers, made by exposing people to the energy of Fuelsion directly. During the chaos Samantha used a special suit meant to manipulate the Fuelsion to fend off some of the attackers allowing the scientists to flee to a secondary lab. This lab had a hidden entrance inside a storage container. The scientists who remain on board decide to fight back against the Alloy Army and modify the suit Samantha used to create a Rider suit. They help her fight against Fusers by creating new weapons and restoring Fuelsion she collects from fallen Fusers into usable bottles. For reasons the scientists don’t fully understand each bottle of Fuelsion has a partner that it resonates perfectly with. The energies feed into each other unleashing their full power.

The horrific Resident Evil playthrough, interlude three
I just finished watching all of the Resident Evil movies I could get my hands on. When I told people I was doing this as the last part of my great year-long playthrough, they all let out groans and said something along the lines of, “Ugh, don’t you wanna end on a good note?” Undaunted by these words and fueled by my ability to tolerate crappy cinema, I moved forward, courageously making it through nine of these suckers...which, to be fair, ranged from surprisingly enjoyable to just as terrible as everyone warned me about.
Before I begin, it’s important to note that we’re dealing with two separate film series here. There’s director Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil Hollywood films, which are the ones that most people know about. Then there are three Japanese-made CG movies that are canon and co-exist alongside the stories of the games. The Anderson movies are...mostly ass. The Japanese ones are okay.
Let us start with the ass first.
Resident Evil - The first RE film came out in 2002, which means that what little CG it has is laughably dated and it’s refreshingly small-scale when compared to its sequels. The movie’s a fan fiction remix of some themes from Resident Evil 1, except with none of the characters from the games present. Instead, we have Paul W.S. Anderson’s wife Milla Jovovich taking center stage as Alice, the former head of Umbrella security in a secret base called the Hive that goes to hell when some dude tries to steal viruses. The entirety of the action takes place in the Hive, and we get a surprisingly tiny number of monsters, with just your garden variety zombies, a few Cerberus and a single Licker showing up. Even though she does run up a wall and kick a Cerberus in the face, Alice is at her most realistic here (she turns into a dual wielding mutant with the ability to make the camera go into slow-motion whenever she wants in all the other films), there’s a nifty laser grid scene that all the sequels keep referencing when they want you to feel nostalgic, and the Hive’s sentient AI, the Red Queen, is compelling enough that Capcom eventually stuck her in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Aside from this movie being full of British actors who do REALLY awful American accents, sounding like they all have mouths full of sausages, Paul W.S. Anderson’s first take on Resident Evil is probably the most watchable one he made.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse - Okay, this one is watchable too, but in more of a popcorn-munching “lol, this shit is dumb” way. It steals the general plot of Resident Evils 2 and 3, with Raccoon City getting infected, but ups the cheese by a hundred. Alice is now a thirteen-year-old boy’s version of a BADAZZ woman, with lots of guns and a bare midriff, and she teams up with Jill Valentine, who resembles her game self in looks but not exactly in personality. Together, they’ve gotta escape Raccoon City along with Carlos Oliveira, who is possibly the only character from the games who is done a great service in these Anderson movies, which make him much more likable even if they couldn’t find an actual Hispanic actor to portray him and had to settle for an Israeli instead. Oh, and Nemesis shows up, because one of the dudes from the first movie who accompanied Alice into the Hive gets experimented on and turned into what honestly looks like someone’s Halloween costume. The writers commit a cardinal sin at the end of the flick by humanizing him, having him suddenly remember his TRUE SELF and help the good guys, but aside from that screw-up I admit that I had a goofy grin on my face throughout several parts of this movie. After Nemesis blows up the Raccoon City station and murmurs his one line of dialogue- “STARRRRRSSSS” - I even kinda felt like clapping. So yeah, Apocalpyse is idiotic fun.
Resident Evil: Extinction - Here’s where the movies stop being mildly entertaining and become varying degrees of either “meh” or just plain bad. Extinction’s biggest problem is that it makes the weird decision of having the entire PLANET be wiped nearly completely clean by Umbrella’s virus, giving the franchise the most generic setting imaginable for a zombie flick - a post-apocalyptic world. And even though this film features Claire Redfield and actually has Alice fight a Tyrant that looks the part, I feel that by turning the environment into Mad Max the filmmakers missed the entire point of the franchise. Resident Evil isn’t really about a “what if” scenario with mankind dying and zombies taking over the world. Instead, it’s about how humanity manages to cope in a time where zombies are used by corporations for terrorism purposes - hence the franchise’s “bio-organic weapon” catch-phrase for its creatures. It’s about how brave people live on in an era that just happens to feature biopunk monsters as a deadly fact of life. It’s about the evil that resides within a world that is pretty shitty, but hasn’t completely gone to shit. By turning the whole planet into the same ol’ zombie playground that we see in most popular fiction starring these workman-like horror tropes, Extinction - which probably thought it was upping the stakes - instead just feels sorta dull, and anyone who views the film today is probably going to see it as a weaker version of The Walking Dead. Oh, and it ends with Alice discovering clones of herself, which will only serve to screw with the loose continuity of these movies as they go on.
Resident Evil: Afterlife - This one starts with Alice’s clones raiding the Umbrella facility in Tokyo, and the whole sequence - which feels like it should be the finale - is reduced to a few minutes of special effects in the beginning. (This is foreshadowing for the next two films, which both end with hints of giant, climatic battles that mostly happen off-screen, if at all.) The first thing that I noticed when watching this was how slow-mo kicked in every five minutes and how the camera seemed to linger on bullets, and I eventually remembered that this film was released during Hollywood’s obsession with 3D during the early 2010s. This explains Afterlife’s IN-YOUR-FACE-IN-THREE-DIMENSIONS action scenes, which are initially pretty in a music video sort of way but become overdone and tiresome as the movie goes on, kinda like a Zack Snyder film. (I place Paul W.S. Anderson in the same “style over substance” category of director as both Zack Snyder and Michael Bay, by the way.) Anyway, Afterlife deals with Alice teaming up with more survivors to try to find a secret ship haven free of zombies. Along the way she runs into Chris Redfield, who looks more like a janitor than the jacked BSAA agent that he is in the games, and Chris and Claire Redfield have a quick sibling reunion and fight Wesker in a scene with choreography shamelessly stolen from Resident Evil 5. It’s pandering fan service and sort of diverting, but ultimately none of it matters. Chris disappears after this movie and is never seen again, and Afterlife is more interesting as a specimen of 2010 3D excess than it is as an actual narrative.
Resident Evil: Retribution - Retribution amps the pandering fan service that Afterlife dabbled in to new levels. Ada Wong is here, played by Li Bingbing but dubbed by her original voice actress, Sally Cahill, probably because Li’s English isn’t that great. Leon Kennedy and Barry frickin’ Burton show up, both looking pretty much like their in-game counterparts. Even Michelle Rodriguez and a few other faces from Paul W.S. Anderson’s first Resident Evil flick make an appearance, thanks to the fact that this movie has clones up the wazoo and uses them to handwave away any series inconsistencies you could think of. So you’re got fan service for the people who like the games and fan service for the folks who liked the first movie, and on top of it all the film has the extreme 3D that its predecessor possessed and a buttload of battles because it all takes place in a giant Umbrella simulation facility full of stuff that can easily be wrecked. By now the plot to these things has gotten more scrambled than my eggs in the morning, but I will say that thanks to its inclusion of classic characters, Retribution is more or less tolerable. There’s even a bit of characterization this time around, thanks to a little hearing-impaired clone girl who Alice takes under her wing and begins to care for, and the movie ends on an okay cliffhanger in a Washington DC under siege, promising epic things to come in the next movie. Unfortunately... Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - I really did not enjoy The Final Chapter for a myriad of reasons. First of all, the Washington battle promised at the end of Retribution never happens. Instead, we fast forward to several months later, when Alice is (big surprise) the only survivor, and EVERYONE she was with in the last flick - Ada, Leon, the little deaf girl - is gone and never mentioned ever again. Wesker, who Alice was working with in Retribution, is back to being a bad guy for poorly explained reasons. Another bad scientist dude that Alice killed in Extinction also returns for even worse reasons, because supposedly Alice only offed his clone three movies ago. But wait, this “real” bad scientist dude is also revealed to be a clone as the TRUE bad scientist dude shows up in the movie’s last act! AND THE ULTIMATE TWIST (look away now if you actually care about spoilers) is that Alice is HERSELF a clone of the original daughter of the Umbrella corporation’s founder who died of a degenerative disease and served as the basis for the Red Queen AI. The idiotic thing is that this daughter was said to be the progeny of Dr. Charles Ashford in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but this movie retcons her to be the spawn of Dr. James Marcus. The Final Chapter, in fact, screws with continuity to a degree I have rarely seen before in a long-running film franchise. Yeah, the framework tying this series together got weird as soon as clones were introduced, but previously it seemed that Paul W.S. Anderson at least cared about his own messy fan fiction. Here? It’s like he forgot what he’d spent the last 15 years building up to and ended on one sloppy fart. If this weren’t bad enough, The Final Chapter is edited in that god awful “shaky cam, lots of fast cuts” way that I hate. In fact, I counted something like twenty cuts in a scene of a few seconds when Alice is attacked by a creature, which means that this film won’t just baffle you with its disregard for continuity - it’ll give you a headache too.
Resident Evil: Degeneration - After watching an array of live-action flicks that took random Resident Evil threads and mashed them together with the elegance of a splattered turd, it did feel good to switch things up and move to the CG movies that were actually put out by Capcom. This 2008 offering takes place in between Resident Evils 4 and 5, stars Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, and deals with a virus breakout in an airport and some of the pharmaceutical company backstabbing that occurred in the aftermath of Umbrella’s destruction. It’s all stuff that feels like it could have come from a lesser gaiden game - perhaps in the same vein as the first Revelations title - and it kinda gives off that “so-so anime movie” vibe, especially because the dubbing always sounds a tad off. Nevertheless, Degeneration’s still a breath of fresh air compared to the Anderson series, and there’s a nice gag where Claire’s searching for a weapon in the airport, someone hands her a physical umbrella, and she looks at it and is like, “Hm, didn’t see this coming.” (Lollerskates.) The main issue I have with Degeneration is how “plasticky” everyone looks - it’s hard to realize how far computer animation has advanced in the last decade until you look at Degeneration’s stiff visuals and compare them to the other CG films. Also, Leon’s characterization is terrible. He’s meant to be a super serious badass, I guess, but he mostly just looks like someone rammed a Samurai Edge up his sphincter. I prefer my Leon Kennedy to be the “Don’t worry Ashley, I’m comin’ for ya!” version from Resident Evil 4, or at least a dude with a little sass to him. The guy in Degeneration is about as interesting as a board.  Resident Evil: Damnation - Damnation is a noticeable step above Degeneration, both in computer animation, which really got better from 2008 to 2012, and in all-around presentation. The dubbing’s still somewhat wonky with that same anime movie vibe, but the characterization is on point, and Leon, who’s taking center stage once more, is just like his RE6 self. Speaking of RE6, this movie channels that game’s themes of international terrorism with a plot that involves rebels in a made-up Eastern European country using Lickers and Las Plagas in an effort to fight for their freedom, only to learn that lo and behold, the nefarious female president who’s seized control of their nation has her own B.O.W.s - in the form of Tyrants - at her disposal. Leon’s caught in the middle of this mess and ends up befriending some of the rebels, and Ada Wong’s also infiltrated the country to manipulate the president. Ada and Leon’s interactions are as insubstantial as they’ve been in pretty much every game that isn’t the recent RE2make, but we do get a cool fight between Ada and the president, who for some reason knows substantial knife fu. There’s an even better battle between Tyrants and Lickers in a city hall square, and Leon gets throw against pillars, regularly takes hits that would kill a normal person and pilots a tank alongside one of the rebels who looks a lot like Chris Redfield but isn’t Chris Redfield. This dude serves as the film’s sympathetic character - a guy torn from his peaceful existence thanks to political wrangling and is tricked into using B.O.W.s to try to achieve a brighter future. It ends with the fella severely injured but learning how to live and move forward in a world infected with nefarious bioweapons, which is the very theme that the Anderson flicks ditched around movie number three. So good work for side-stepping previous failures and recognizing what Resident Evil is all about, Damnation.
Resident Evil: Vendetta - If Degeneration’s a so-so anime movie, and Damnation a good anime movie, then Vendetta is just a good movie in general, with no “anime” distinction needed. The dubbing’s finally pretty decent, for one, and the story takes place in between RE6 and RE7, teaming Leon and Chris Redfield up with - HOLY CRAP - Rebecca Chambers, who’s been AWOL since Resident Evil Zero. They’ve gotta stop an arms dealer from bio-nuking New York and doing nasty things to Rebecca, who resembles his dead wife, and along the way Leon pilots a motorcycle on the freeway with his feet while shooting at Cerebrus with his hands. Nearly all of the movie’s considerable action segments are punctuated with rapid fire John Wick-style gunplay, and it works. It’s like the folks who made this film realized that the coolest part of Resident Evil 6 was the point where Leon and Chris point their guns at each other for a few seconds before deciding that they need to put their differences aside and cooperate, and even though you could conceivably fault Vendetta for leaning heavily towards the “action” side of Resident Evil rather than the “horror” side, it’s a well-paced film that finally gives us a substantial interaction between two series mainstays beyond the one minute they shared with each other in RE6. Also, people are still posting GIFs from Vendetta’s action sequences all across Tumblr and forums whenever arguments break out over whether Chris or Leon is TEH COoLER Resident Evil protagonist, so Capcom obviously did something right. If we get another computer animated film, I imagine it’ll lean more heavily towards horror since that’s where the series has gone recently...but hopefully the path of improvement that we’ve seen from Degeneration to Damnation to Vendetta won’t be broken.
And with that, whew, I’m done with RE movies, at least until the rumored Hollywood reboot that’s supposedly drawing inspiration from Resident Evil 7 comes out. (It can’t be worse than The Final Chapter, I suppose.) I can’t say that my friends were wrong when they warned me that half of these would be shite, but I also can’t say that I ended on a bad note, because Vendetta was pretty good.
After all this, my grand playthrough and consumption of all Resident Evil media is about to finish Next post I make will be a last look at the franchise as a whole...and what a year’s worth of zombie headshots taught me.  All screencaps taken by me.

Girls Like You - Epilogue
(prev) masterlist [a/n: SURPRISE!]
Justin shakily walks into the room, nervous and scared. Chengcheng chuckles and squeezes his hand. The loud cries of the baby are heard as soon as he walks inside. He gasps, his eyes landing on the baby in his sister’s arms.
“You’re here,” he breathes out thankfully. “You’re finally here.” The baby continues to cry as Justin walks closer. “You’re beautiful, Meimei.” His eyes water as he reaches out and caresses her cheek. “I’m the uncle and godfather to the most beautiful girl in the whole entire world.”
“Would you like to hold her?” YN asks. Justin nods excitedly, moving to sit next to his sister. He’s held babies before and yet, he still feels nervous to hold this one. He doesn’t want to break her. “Nice and gentle,” his sister whispers as she places the crying baby into his arms.
Justin feels his eyes water. She’s crying but the moment she looks up at Justin’s face, she starts to settle a bit. He chuckles. “Stars shining bright above you. Night breezes seem to whisper, I love you,” he sings quietly to the baby. He’s not the best singer in the world but for the past nine months, Justin has been laying next to his sister and singing this same song to her stomach. The words reach the baby’s ears and she settles down a bit, staring up at Justin. He goes to tickle her chin and is caught off guard when she grabs on to his finger instead. “Whoa there,” he laughs. “Strong one, aren’t you? It’s in your blood. Your mom is the stronger person I know.” She smiles and presses a soft kiss to his cheek.
“You two smile,” Xukun says as he moves in front of the bed to take pictures. Justin notes how red and blotchy his face still is. Xukun had been waiting for this day and now, it’s finally here. Justin and his sister smile for the camera just as Xukun says “Cheese!” They review it and ask for more while Chengcheng whines that he wants to hold the baby too.
The three boys spend the night in the hospital with her. She’s released three days later.
-
She’s not cut out for this.
It’s one thing to raise Justin, a tiny human with the help of others. But this is a baby. A baby who is depending on her to make sure she stays alive.
She’s barely had any sleep. How could she when the baby continues to cry? Justin and Xukun were in town with Ziyi and Yanjun to set up the final touches on the dance studio. Her and the baby have been home all day by themselves. She’s tried everything, feeding her, changing her and she even carried her all around the house. The more the baby cries, the more YN feels hopeless.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers, her voice breaking. “I’m sorry.” Meimei continues to cry, her screams getting louder and louder. It causes the girl to shake her head and fall to her knees on the floor, holding the baby close to her chest as tears leave her eyes as well.
Just then, a pair of arms wrap around her. She gasps and looks behind her to see Xukun. “What happened?” he whispers.
“The baby won’t stop crying because I’m just a sucky mom who isn’t ready to be a mom,” she rants. “I’m just a kid. What do I know about raising a baby?” Xukun can’t help but chuckle at how pouty she was being. He takes the baby from her arms and wipes the tears of his girlfriend before pressing a soft kiss to her nose.
“Go rest. I’ll tell Ziyi and Yanjun that I’m staying here. Justin can help them take care of everything else.”
“No, Xukun-“
“You’ve worked hard today,” he tells her. “This parenting thing is new. But it’s only going to work if we become a team,” he says, looking her in her arms as he rocks the baby. “Parenting is about team work. Isn’t that what we learned from the little old ladies in town? Parenting is all about working together, making mistakes and learning. You and I are still so young and I know a baby isn’t something ideal for people our age but it doesn’t make you any less of a parent.” She sighs sadly at him.
“This is scary,” she says. “Kun, what if we mess her up? What if she ends up hating us or something?”
“We won’t mess her up,” he rolls his eyes. “You and I are good people. We’ll raise a good person. Meimei is going to grow up with a huge heart because of the abundance of love we all have to give her. Not only will it be us to raise her but Minghao too. Ziyi and Yanjun will be here during the summers and she’ll learn from them. She’ll have Zhengting, Chengcheng and Bingbing and Linong and Zhangjing and Linkai. But most importantly, she’ll have you, darling. She’ll get to watch you grow up and make mistakes. She’ll get to grow up and watch you correct your wrongs. She’ll get to grow up knowing she has the best mother in the entire world.”
“Xukun, shut up,” she snaps as she fees tears sting her eyes.
“I’m just speaking the truth,” he whispers, leaning over to kiss her cheek. “Now get up and rest.” She gives him a hesitant look as the baby continues to fuss in his arms. “Hey. I’m a parent too,” he says as he pulls her up from the floor carefully. “Let me try to be one.” She sighs but nods nonetheless and lets Xukun lead her to the bed. He smiles softly at her. “Rest,” he tells her. Xukun leaves the room after that, shutting it behind him quietly.
Xukun takes Meimei to the front yard where Zhengting had built a porch swing for them over the summer. He takes a seat, the small breeze brushing past them. He pushes the baby’s hair back, “Why did you give your mommy such a hard time? Huh? You missed your daddy that much?” he asks her. Her fussing slowly subsides as Xukun continues to talk to her. “I knew something was wrong so I came back to check on you guys,” he explains as he puts a pacifier he had picked up into her mouth. “Meimei, you need to take it easy on your mom. She doesn’t like to tell me when she needs help, you know? So you gotta take it easy on her when it’s just the two of you.” Meimei blinks up at him. “She’s very stubborn, you know. She still wants to take care of you and forgets that she needs to be taken care of as well. So, for daddy, could you please take it a little easier on her when me or Uncle Hao aren’t home?”
Meimei can only cuddle into his side, making him smile. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
That evening, the three other boys come home. Xukun is still sitting on the porch. He hushes them as they come up the driveway. He tells them that YN is sleeping finally and sends them back into town to buy food. Justin stays behind and sits in front of Xukun, singing and playing with the baby.
“Meimei, hurry and grow up so that you can come dance with your dad and Uncle Hao!” he jokes. “You’re going to become a world class dancer like your mom almost was!”
“If she wants to,” Xukun adds on.
Justin nods, “If you want to.” He smiles at the girl and cocks his head to the side. “I love you.”
Ziyi and Yanjun return home just as YN wakes up. She panicks for a second, looking around for the baby only to remember that Xukun had taken her. She sighs and stretches her muscles out before heading into the bathroom and turning on the water.
Just as she’s starting to undress, a figure slips in through the door.
“Where’s Meimei?” she asks.
“Minghao and Yanjun are watching her,” Xukun answers. “You okay?” She nods and continues to undress. He bites his lip and lets his fingers wrap around her waist.
“You better get the fuck away from me, Kun. I can barely handle one,” she smacks his hand away, giggling. He pouts and presses a kiss to her lips. “Hey, I know what you’re doing!” she warns.
“Common,” he frowns. “Just wanna kiss you.” He presses his lips against her neck.
She rolls her eyes and tugs at the hem of his shirt, bringing it over his head. He smiles and gets undressed himself before pulling them both under the spray of the water.
He cherishes every moment alone they get together. Since Meimei sleeps in their room and in their bed, Xukun never really gets to kiss her like this anymore. They never get a moment alone anymore. And again, they’re both only twenty - almost twenty-one. Could you blame Xukun if he just wanted a moment to let his hands roam and appreciate every dip and curve of her body?
They’re giggling, letting the water run down their bodies as they continue to kiss when someone bangs on the door. “BABY’S HUNGRY AND JEALOUS THAT THERE MIGHT BE ANOTHER ON THE WAY!” Ziyi jokes before he walks out of the room.
Xukun sighs. “Fun while it lasted,” he frowns as she steps out of the shower. “I’ll think of you!” he says dramatically as she wraps a towel around her body.
“I know you will,” she smirks, eyes wandering down then snapping back up. She pecks him once more before leaving the bathroom and changing.
When Xukun enters the living room twenty minutes later, he sees that they’ve already begun to eat. He pouts and takes a slice of pizza before sitting next to his girlfriend and Meimei on the couch.
“You eat?” he asks, taking a bite.
“I’ll wait for Meimei,” she explains as she continues to breastfeed the child.
“Nonesense,” Xukun grins as he brings his slice up to her mouth. “Double task it, babe!” he giggles. She rolls her eyes and takes a bite out of fhe slice, laughing when Xukun coos at her. “My girls are so beautiful,” he says. “I love you both.” He rests his arm around her and grins widely. “I love you both so much.”
It goes on like this for the next three years.
Meimei slowly grows. She goes from crawling to toddling to walking to running. She starts to say names like “Mama” or “Dada” but her favorite is “HAO!” which they find the baby screaming all the time just to get his attention.
Meimei quietly moves in with Justin. She falls asleep in his bed more often than not and Justin doesn’t mind. He tells Xukun he likes Meimei most when she’s asleep after the baby scratches his face for the third time this week. Xukun laughs and brings her blanket to him that night but it’s too late, they’re already fast asleep under Justin’s warm covers.
Justin and Meimei spend a lot of time together. He brings her into town with him. He doesn’t want her to stay in the house all of the time so whenever he leaves, she goes with him. Armed with some juice and a backpack full of diapers and wipes, the two of them spend their days playing with the other children of the town. Some days, they splash around in the shallow pond and catching tadpoles. Other days, Justin teaches her to play hopscotch and jump rope. The entire town knows Meimei by now and whenever Justin walks past, they always search for the little girl that likes to babble about nonesense at his side.
Justin falls more and more in love with Meimei every day. When she’s sick, he tends to her every needs. He sings her to sleep every single night. He wakes up when she does. He bathes her, smothers her in kisses and does all of the things his sister had done for him growing up. It’s only fair.
One day, Justin goes into town with Meimei. His sister needs to clean the house before Yanjun, Ziyi and Chengcheng come for their annual visit (even though they tell her she doesn’t have to do that). He tells his sister that he and Meimei are going to go skip rocks and holds her hand down the road.
Justin takes her to their usual spot by the pond. He tells Meimei to stay right where she is while he finds them some good rocks. Meimei agrees and stares at a butterfly. Justin runs as fast as he can around the dirt to find as many rocks as he can before Meimei gets bored and wanders off (a bad habit Xukun has been trying to fix). He’s found a few when he turns to check on her and sees someone talking to her. His eyes widen and he runs back over.
“Meimei,” he says sternly, squatting down next to her. “We don’t talk to strangers. What are you doing?” he whispers, not even glancing at the girl.
“Look Hao!” she points.
Justin looks up and finally catches a glimpse of the girl. He inhales sharply as he looks at her.
“Would you like to hold it?” the girl asks Meimei. Justin looks down and sees a the same butterfly that the baby had been looking at on her finger. Meimei nods and slowly, the girl lets the butterfly crawl onto her palm. Angelic, he thinks. “You’re the first person around my age I’ve seen. What’s your name?” she smiles.
“Minghao,” he squeaks. “But my friends call me Justin.”
She nods, “Hyojong. But my friends call me Lucy.” Justin continues to stare at her, causing her to blush. “Hey, listen...I have to go back now but I’m visiting my grandparents for the summer so maybe you’d like to show me around a little?” she asks.
“Uh, okay. Yeah. Meet you here tomorrow?” he smiles. “Around this time?”
“Only if you bring Meimei,” she winks. Justin blushes and nods. “Great. See you tomorrow, Justin! Meimei, lets catch a lot of butterflies tomorrow, okay?” Lucy smiles. She waves them off then runs away.
As soon as Justin is sure she can’t hear anymore, he falls onto his butt and lets go of the breath he didn’t know he was holding. “Meimei,” he smiles, “I gotta call Chengcheng. I think I just saw an angel.”
-
“Justin seemed happy today,” Xukun mentions as he lays down in bed. Tonight, Meimei’s sleeping with them. Not that they mind but Justin requested that he sleep alone tonight. They hear his voice faintly bouncing off the walls. He’s shouting about something, they’re not really sure but they know he’s probably on the phone with Chengcheng. He’ll be fine. They trust him.
“Who knows?” she whispers as she sets a sleeping Meimei onto the bed. Xukun throws the blanket over her. She crawls in carefully next to her and gets under the covers herself. “We’ll know in the morning when Chengcheng gets here.”
Xukun nods.
He’s quiet for a while. He watches her card her fingers through the baby’s hair. He loves how she looks just like the perfect mix of the both of them. He can’t believe that his baby is three now. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun.
Xukun has done a lot in three years. He’s laughed, cried, gotten angry, felt like he was on cloud nine. Ziyi has made him the head of the dance studio and many of the town children attend his classes. Justin has even gotten to teach classes alongside him. During the summer, Zhengting, Chengcheng, Yanjun and Ziyi all come back to help with summer dance camps. This year, they’re planning on having Zhangjing, Linkai and Linong all join them for the summer activities.
Xukun looks at the girls across from him and smiles. His heart fills with joy. YN has grown up so much. The two have them have sort of gotten the hang of this parenting thing. Both of them think that part of the reason why is because they have a help like Justin around. Without him, they would’ve ripped their hair out. Xukun is grateful for him. Since the four years he’s lived here, he’s grown so much. He’s gotten so much healthier. His nightmares that used to haunt him are no longer heard of. He’s learned to cope with things better. Xukun is silently proud of him.
And his girls. God, his girls.
He sees YN slowly drift to sleep and his mind drifts to how he’s going to get to see this for the rest of his life. “I want to marry you,” he whispers to her as she sleeps. He knows marriage won’t change their relationship. It won’t change the endless amount of love he has for his girls. It won’t change the way they live. In his opinion, the only thing that would change was the fact that she’d have the same last name as him. He wants Meimei to carry his name too and they could probably take care of that on the day of the wedding too. He already has it all planned out.
Justin will be the one to give her away. Ziyi is his best man. Yanjun is in the wedding too and playfully object their wedding. Chengcheng is in charge of the rings. Zhangjing helps with catering. His little Linong can sing, Linkai can DJ. Zhengting will probably organize and coordinate all of the details that go into it. Meimei would look adorable as his flower girl.
He sighs happily as he thinks about it before turning over in bed. He reaches into the drawer next to his side of the bed and pulls out the ring that Zhengting had given to him all those years ago. He smiles and slips it on his pinky - the perfect fit.
He turns back to his sleeping girlfriend. He’s not sure why but he shakes her awake. Her eyes slowly flutter open and she looks pissed when she sees it’s still night time.
“What?” she spits at him.
“I wanna ask you something,” he whispers.
“It couldn’t wait until morning,” she hisses.
Xukun shakes his head. “If I wait until morning, I might lose all my courage to ask again.” She frowns and follows him as he sits up in bed, careful not to wake up Meimei.
She looks at him expectantly. “Well?” He stares at her. God, how did a boy like him end up with a girl like her? He brushes a hair back from her face and then pecks her on the lips. She smiles into his kiss but pushes him away just as quickly. “Xukun, what do you want?”
“What do I want?” he repeats. “What do I want?” Xukun shakes his head and smiles at her, “I want this. I want to be able to do this everyday for the rest of my life. I want to be able to wake up and see your face first every day. I want to be able to kiss your lipes every day. I want to be able to hold your hand every day. I want to be able to call you mine every day. I want to be able to sing, dance around, cook, clean, laugh, cry, argue, grow, learn, sleep, eat, love you every single day for the rest of my life, YN. That’s what I want.”
“You already have that,” she smiles.
He leans in close, nodding to himself. “Yeah, I do,” he says as he brushes his lips against her’s. “Marry me, Huang YN.”
“What?” she pulls back, looking at him.
“Marry me. Let’s go out and get married. We can do it tomorrow, next week, next month, two years from now. I don’t care. I just want you to marry me,” he explains, smiling at her. “Do you want to marry me too?”
“No,” she scoffs. “Why would I want to marry you?”
He blushes, mouth slightly gaping in shock. “Okay, wow. You could’ve let me down easier,” he groans, standing up.
“Where are you going?” she frowns.
“To the porch. I’m embarrassed now and I kind of don’t wanna be in here because you’re going to keep teasing me for being pouty like you always do,” he say.
“Xukun,” she rolls her eyes. “Come back here.” He crosses his arms and comes back, sitting next to her this time. She grabs one of his hands and smiles. “Do you really want me to marry you?”
“Of course I do. Maybe I can finally shut Chengcheng and Yanjun up,” he jokes. “But you know you don’t have to say yes. If you say no then nothing changes. I won’t love you any less.”
“And if I say yes?”
“Then you get my last name,” he shrugs. “That’s it.”
“Doesn’t sound like a very good idea,” she clicks her tongue. “This seems to only benefit you.”
“Well, Meimei gets my last name too,” he shrugs.
“And?”
He takes his hand away and crosses his arms, turning his back to her. “You’re right. This is a stupid idea. Go back to sleep.”
She can’t help but laugh. “Xukun,” she giggles, hugging him from behind. “Of course I’ll marry you.” She watched him turn back to her, a giant cheesy grin on his face. She laughs and pecks his lips.
“You will?” he asks. She nods her head. “Do you really? You’re not just agreeing to make me happy? Because you really don’t have to marry me if you don’t want to but-“
“I want to, Xukun,” she smiles. “I want this forever too, you know. I’ve been waiting for you to pop the damn question for like a year now. Me and the others even started to place bets.”
“You placed bets on how long it would take me to propose?!” he whisper yells. She pecks his lips, trying to steer his thoughts away but Xukun pushes her away. “Did you at least win?” he asks. When she makes a face, he groans to himself. “You’re so lucky that I’m in love with you,” he says as he lays them back down.
Xukun falls asleep with the biggest smile on his face that night. All he could think of was how lucky he was to end up with a girl like YN. He can’t wait to see what life has in store for the both of them.

Masterlist | Drabbles
Tumblr media
sweet boy i love him
“Ice skating?” You raise an eyebrow, looking at the pass in your hand.
Linkai shrugs. “Chengcheng said he got free passes from some promotion or whatever and he was going to go with Bingbing, but instead they’re going to a movie. So he gave them to me and said, ‘Take your significant other on a cute date instead of screaming at each other over video games or at the skate park.’”
You snort. “He’s a crackhead, I swear.”
“His words, not mine.” Linkai looks at you. “So, do you want to go?”
You stare at the passes, wondering if it’s worth it to actually go outside and try something new for once in your life.
Hell, why not? Unless Linkai knows how to skate, which you’re pretty sure he doesn’t, he can’t embarrass you, at least.
“Sure.” You shrug. “Let me get my board.”
. . . . .
Skateboarding to the ice rink isn’t very conventional, hence the blank stares from many strangers as you hop off your board in front of the building. You ignore them though.
“So, Linkai,” you begin, “do you even know how to ice skate?”
“… No?”
You look at him incredulously. “You wanted to take me on an ice-skating date when you don’t even know how to skate?”
Linkai blushes. That’s enough of an answer for you.
A laugh spills out of your mouth and you grab Linkai’s hand, squeezing it. “Don’t worry, Kai,” you say. “I don’t know how to skate either.”
An indignant look passes over Linkai’s face. “Then why would you tease me about it?” he says, mockingly outraged. “You have no right!”
“Shut up.” You roll your eyes. “Let’s go inside.”
. . . . .
After the eternity it takes for you to actually put on the skates, you clomp onto the ice with Linkai. Immediately you slip and fall over.
“Not a word,” you say through gritted teeth, pulling yourself up with the railing on the side. “Not. One. Word.”
Linkai doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t manage to stifle his laughter.
Oh, I’ll give you something to laugh about…
A devilish grin forms on your face and Linkai narrows his eyes. You know he’s about to call you out but before he can, you give him a good shove. He goes sprawling onto the ice as you laugh, holding tightly onto the railing as you slide away.
“Y/N!” he yells, voice echoing through the mostly-empty rink. You giggle, still holding onto the railing as you stiffly skate away from him as fast as you can. “I’ll get you back!”
“You can try!” you yell back, startling a couple kids nearby. “Sorry,” you mutter sheepishly, hastily sliding away as best you can.
Linkai continue to chase you along the edges of the rink, holding fast to the railing just as you are. It’s hilarious, watching him stumble unsteadily on the ice, and you laugh.
Well, you laugh until your feet slide out from underneath you and you end up on your butt again.
Your cheeks, already red from the cold of the rink, flare even darker as you pull yourself up, very aware of Linkai’s laugh not far behind you. You look behind, just in time to see Linkai’s hands reach out to push you to the ground again.
“Wang Linkai!” you yell, glaring up at the laughing boy. You scoot over and yank on his leg, sending him dropping into a heap on the ice next to you.
He yelps in surprise before glaring at you. You’re too busy laughing at his new predicament to care.
“Karma’s a bitch,” you sing.
Linkai scowls. “You hurt my butt!” he complains loudly.
“Mommy, he said ‘butt’!” some kid gasps.
You cackle even louder, the cold of the ice seeping through your clothes as you convulse on the ground, but it’s all worth it because Linkai’s face is a sight to see, bright pink and red from the cold and the embarrassment. You’ve only seen him like this once, when he first asked you out, so you take your phone out to quietly snap a picture.
The kid skates over. “‘Butt’ is a bad word, mister,” he says seriously. “You shouldn’t say it again.”
You cough, turning purple from laughter.
Linkai shoots you a glare and mumbles something incoherent, barely able to look at the boy.
“Don’t worry, kid,” you say when you’ve finally collected yourself. You get back up, squatting down on your skates. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t say that bad word again.”
The kid nods solemnly. “Are you his mommy?” he asks.
Both you and Linkai choke.
“Because then he’ll definitely listen to you. But you don’t look old enough,” he continues.
“N-no, I’m his girlfriend,” you stutter, trying to hold back another round of hysterical laughter. “But he listens to me, I promise.”
Linkai shoots you a withering look. You stick your tongue out at him.
The kid seems satisfied and nods a last time before his mother skates over, giving you an apologetic though amused look. You smile and wave at her, and they skate away.
You look at Linkai and there’s a short silence.
“How did he hear me say ‘butt’ but not you say ‘bitch’?” Linkai complains.
You snicker. “‘Are you his mommy?’” you mimic.
And the two of you collapse into fits of laughter on the ice again.
. . . . .
You hand a cup of hot cocoa to Linkai, breathing in the sweet fragrance of melted chocolate and steaming milk.
“What a fucking day,” you mutter, plopping down at a small table nearby. You warm your hands around your cup, shivering in delight as the warmth courses through your veins.
Linkai groans as he sits down. “I have so many bruises,” he complains. “My butt is sore.”
“Butt is a bad word, Linkai,” you tease, making him scowl.
“I still don’t understand how he heard butt but not bitch,” Linkai mutters, pink-faced. “Who did that kid even think he was?”
You sip your hot chocolate. “Maybe he didn’t know what ‘bitch’ meant. And someone who’s better than you,” you say. “Which he is.”
Linkai gasps dramatically. “I’m wounded!”
“Then be wounded.” You stick your tongue out. “Anyway, can we leave?” You prod at one of the bruises forming on your arm from when you slipped the first time. “I don’t think ice skating is for me.”
Linkai nods in agreement, standing up. He doesn’t bother to offer you a hand, though, so you whine and hold out your hand to him. “Help me up,” you demand.
He wrinkles his nose. “Get up on your own,” he sniffs. He’s just turning around when you stretch out your leg and hook it around his. His knees buckle.
“Hey!” he yelps, only just breaking his fall. “What was that for?!”
“Then help me up!” You shove your hand out again, unwilling to relent. He takes it, grumbling and helps you up. “Why are you so stubborn?” he complains as you drag him outside.
“Look who’s talking!” you retort. “Also, in your confession song, didn’t you say that you loved my stubbornness?”
Linkai grumbles a little but you can tell he has no response. You smile triumphantly and hook your arm around his, pulling him along. “Come on.” You grin. “If you hurry up, maybe we can get to the skate park before the sun goes down.”
“If I hurry up?” Linkai looks extremely indignant.
“Yeah, you.” You hand him his skateboard. “Let’s go. Last one to the park is a rotten egg!”
As you jump on your board and push away, you hear him complaining behind you about your trickery. You turn, stick out your tongue, and laugh loudly.
Maybe ice skating isn’t for you, but that doesn’t mean you won’t treasure the memories that come along with it.

It’s okay if you can’t do it and again I really love your blog😊😊👌🏽
a/n: sorry again for the long wait! and thank you so much for your nice words and I hope you’ll enjoy this!
Tumblr media
- Hello everyone, - Yixing walked into the room and greeted the trainees, - for today, I prepared a little surprise for you. Can you guess what it is?
- Is Fan BingBing visiting us? - Zhengting asked smirking while looking at ChengCheng.
Yixing laughed along with other trainees, but shook his head.
- Nope, it’s not BingBing but she/he has acted with her actually in a c-drama , - Yixing said looking at the trainees with a mischievous smile on his face.
Boys chatted loudly trying to guess who is the surprise guest. While other boys suggest different idols, Can Xukun only wished the guest to be you. From the day you debuted the young boy was completely blown away by your singing voice. He adored how hard working and passionate you were about your job, and it inspired him a lot. He imagined thousands of times how he would meet you and thank you for inspiring him. He would also imagine what it would be like to date you, but he knew there’s no changes. So when you walked into the room with the bright smile on your face, he froze completely.
- Hello everyone! - you greeted the boys who screamed and greeted you back.
- Y/N can I get your autograft! - Justin shouted which only leaded to Zhengting scolding him.
You laughed and assured that you will give autografts to everyone who wanted because you were staying for awhile. Boys happily screamed and started chatting with you.
Xukun stayed away from you, trying to get himself together. He still couldn’t believe that you were in the same room as him. Being an observant person, you of course noticed that he was not around you and felt a little bit hurt. On your free time you watched Idol Producer and Xukun happened to be your favourite. You also started to develop a little crush on him and seeing him in real life made you fall for him even more.
When Xukun stood up, you thought the was finally coming to talk to you but he went in an absolutely different direction. Right to the door.
- Guys, I'm going to bed, - Xukun said and left the room slamming the door louder than he hoped to.
-What’s up with him? - you asked quietly.
- He has a crush on you, - Xiao Gui said casually as if it wasn’t a big thing.
- He totally does, - ChengCheng confirmed the information, - He has your photo as his lock screen.
- Guys!- Xingjie said strictly looking at the laughing boys, - I’m sorry Y/N.
- It’s okay, - you blushed looking down.
- Do you like him too? - Justin smirked looking at you.
You stared to laugh nervously and hit him playfully. Justin started running away from you while you were chasing him around the practice room.
                                                       ❊❊❊
After a long day, Xukun decided to go for a walk. Little did he know that you were doing the same thing. Xukun walked around the buildings, listening to music, his thoughts far away from here. After awhile he sat down on the brown bench and closed his eyes.
- Hey, - your soft voice made him jump up.
- OH, hey, - boy blushed as soon as he realised who was talking to him.
- How are you doing? - you asked him sitting down next to Xukun.
Conversation between you and Xukun lasted for nearly one hour. You realised that you so much in common with him and wanted to just talk, talk and talk to him. If soulmates were real, you had found yours.
- We should get going, - Xukun stood up, smiling down at you.
He wasn’t blushing anymore, acting more confident. He offered you his hand which you gladly grabbed.
Walking back to the building you didn’t speak much. Xukun still held your hand, and you felt warm and loved inside. The feeling was something you never thought you would experience.
- I’ll see you tomorrow, - boy stopped in front of the door which lead to mentors and staffs rooms, - it was really nice talking to you.
- Sleep well, - you said and leaned to kiss his cheek quickly.
Sadly your moment was interrupted by Justin and ChengCheng who were on their way back from the grocery shop.
- Y/N and Xukun sitting on the tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g!, - they shouted while making kissing noice.
- Yixing will hear about this Draco Malfoy anyone, - you shouted back at them but stared laughing soon.
- well, - Xukun continued at you as soon as the boys disappeared behind the corner, - good night.
You smiled at him and stepped inside of the building. Your heart beat fast, your cheeks were red. Cai Xukun really was something and you couldn’t wait to meet him again.
