critical role: by someone that hasn’t seen any of it
hi so we recently got into dimension 20 and our friends have been tugging us towards critical role for a very long time at this point but we still haven’t watched any of it nor do we know all that much about anything that actually happens in it. however we do intend to actually start watching soon so we decided it was the perfect opportunity to make one of those ‘all the things i know about this thing i haven’t watched’ posts, show it to our critrole friends, and then actually get into critrole and be able to look back and laugh about it later
also the images are all sourced via friend so this is all one hundred percent no wiki no google knowledge, just from tumblr and discord convos and stuff. and some cast compilation videos that were very funny
update: we are now watching cr3! liveblog tag for silly lb -> #cr3 lb
vox machina
Tumblr media
from left to right:
- i have literally no idea who the two halflings are. i’ve never seen them before in my life. what. uh. paladin and bard? im literally just guessing. who plays these characters. what
- grog? grug? this is travis’ pc maybe. also hypothesizing hes a half-orc barbarian or something similar? ive seen like one clip of him
- percival frederick von something something de rolo i think there’s a iii in his name as well, his name is long and very german but he does not have a german accent. or a french one. at separate times i have thought this character was german and french and then i heard him talk and was like. What. anyway i know he’s taliesin’s pc and he invented guns and is also possessed sometimes by big bird demon, and he has a nifty plague doctor mask. also tragic backstory. his entire family is dead i think. no mercy percy! he has a thing with vex? also his hair did a wilbur. the gay people on tumblr love this twink. i also think i love this twink
- vax’ildan! i think i may have actually spelled that right! half-elf? vex is his twin? and he’s... liam’s pc i think. yeah that’s it. he gives me angsty boy energy tho. not as much as percy but this boy has seen some shit. also he might be a rogue or a ranger who even knows. he looks like gay jon snow
- vex’ahlia which i definitely didn’t spell right. i think the next one is marisha’s pc so this one is... uh... laura? i think she’s the ranger actually. i think she has a bear. not like a gay bear like an actual animal bear. though it could be gay too i dunno. she has a think with percy. or everyone wants her to have a thing with percy. i genuinely can’t tell. anyway get that traumatized twink girl
- keyleth... marisha’s pc. some kind of spellcaster? maybe sorcerer? wild magic? she Also has a thing with percy maybe. or vex. or both. who even knows. everyone wants that twink. one time she threw herself off a cliff and turned into a goldfish and almost died and it was hilarious
anything else i know about this:
- there are evil bitches called the briarwoods and they might be vampires
- this is the one that got a tv show and might have also been the first critrole campaign idek
- d. ragons? chromia something. dragons. i hope i haven’t been lied to about the dragons. i hope there are actually dragons in this. there’s like a chromium something with dragon symbols tho
mighty nein
Tumblr media
from left to right:
- mollymauk! ...tealeaf? another taliesin pc. the trans people like this one. i don’t know what their pronouns are. but theyre slaying every time i see them at any time. no idea what class but maybe a spellcaster?
- ...beau? i know her exclusively through lesbian ship art so i know her name is beau something bc that’s the ship names but i don’t know if that’s short for something. monk? no clue. also no clue who plays her either. maybe marisha?
- i have seen this character but i do not know their name. or anything else about them
- oh this is the sad wizard boy caleb widogast. he’s gay for essek thelyss (or something. i didnt spell that right) who is a npc i think. yeah. sad wizard. every time i see him he’s just being a wizard and sad. the gays love him too but he’s more of a distraught otter than a sad twink. maybe he and percy should start a club tho. also i think he’s played by liam
- i KNOW this character’s name i think it starts with s but i can’t remember for the life of me. scriv? scrat? no thats the rat from ice age. possibly a menace? i think im getting them mixed up with someone else. they look cool as hell though
- jester!! laura pc i think perhaps. i want to get drunk with her and tell her about all of my problems. yeah. i dont know anything about her actually. beaujester exists tho i know that
- YASHA. CRUSH ME HOLY FUCK. sorry im normal ? her voice makes me a little crazy insane. ive seen a few clips of her. mostly gay shit with beau. uh she’s played by ashley and she could kick my ass very easily
oh my god there’s another photo
Tumblr media
- i think there’s only one character different here and it’s caduceus clay fun fact i hated this mfer for really dumb shitty personal reasons for a while before deciding it was very stupid to blame a fictional character for interpersonal drama and now im fine with him. wait does mollymauk die or something. wait a second. no, wait, fuck—
- ALSO WHO’S THAT FUCKER IN THE BACKGROUND I JUST NOTICED THAT
anything else i know about this:
- yeah i got nothing. no idea about the lore or the plot or anything bc i pretty much exclusively see gay ship art of these pcs. love wins i support it
bells hells
Tumblr media
from left to right, one more time:
- look my brain is just saying gertrude from dungeons & drag queens but obviously that’s incorrect. so i don’t know who this is
- or this! but she looks very pretty and i love the little... monkey... bird? pls tell me these two characters have some kind of wild opposites dynamic they look like they do
- LITTLE ROBOT GUY . fcg? fgc? i think it was the first one. uh. liam pc? ?????? i think he gets bitches
- orym...? i know one of these characters is named orym. and i think it’s this one. i also see gay fanart of him
- i don’t know who the guy underneath him is
- or the lady with the purple hair god i really don’t know shit about this campaign sorry
- ashton greymoore, taliesin pc, my friend luna loves this guy, he’s. rocks? he’s rocks. groovy.
- someone in this campaign is named like dorian or something and im guessing its this one bc idk who they are either
anything else i know about this:
- flying.......... ship?
- this is the ongoing one i think
thank you for coming to my ted talk, i can’t wait to look back at this in a few months and laugh my ass off. hope u enjoyed this mess

raine raine your ocs raine the radiant rejects I need to know more about them what are their classes I beg
HIII ZEETH!!! I was asleep when you sent this I think but im answering it now <33
Okay so now’s the time to reveal I don’t actually know that much about dnd mechanics. I’ve never actually played it lol, so all my knowledge is from various dnd shows and podcasts I’ve seen over the years
Now with that:
Caleb Rowar - my half-orc guy, he’s basically “the leader” of the group and he’s also a paladin. I don’t think he’s ever thought of himself or self care in the past 3 years
Gray Elaran - high elf, pretentious theatre kid. He’s a bard. There’s no other option there
Annie Hawkins (whose actual name is Marianne. Annie’s a nickname) - human cowgirl. She’s a ranger, and also she does artificing but as a hobby. She’s basically the lesbian you go to during an apocalypse, she definitely has doomsday supplies
Erin Willows - my sweet cowardly half elf boy. He’s a warlock. Now how he got to be a warlock is that his patron used to know his parents and is a weird aunt type figure. He really wishes he just chose wizard classes. He really does
Fern Viruk - littlest goblin guy. Also a barbarian. They’re just a lil guy with a huge fucking mace. Terrifying in fights, bad at talking to people.
Molly Graves - the new girl of the group, her first day was the worst. Firbolg fighter, I haven’t actually decided on her weapon yet. One day
One day I’ll read those dnd handbooks and understand how classes actually work. But until then I’m just having fun here
Also! Fun fact “Radiant Rejects” isn’t even their party name, it’s supposed to be one of those “Say hi Intrepid Heroes” bits (like Magical Misfits or Questing Queens). I’m very emotionally attached to the name tho so it is not changing

Mw2 Guys and DND HC's
Tumblr media
AN: I’ve never played dnd I’ve only done a bit of pathfinder so if I get anything wrong lmk
Gaz
I’ll start off with their classes
For Gaz he gives me Paladin or Fighter
Basic Ik but with his time being a soldier he tends to like to stick close to home with his characters
I also feel like they’d either be a Human or a Half-Elf, I can’t explain why but the vibes are right.
He also probably hasn’t played dnd before so he’d try to stay safe with his character and try not to get killed.
Oh and for alignment chaotic neutral, it’s still safe but he wants to cause some trouble yk
Soap
He gives me “my character is 10x more chaotic than me”
So for that I’m giving him either the Bard or the Sorcerer and I’ll explain why in a moment
Bards are known very well for being charismatic, and he’d use that to get into some trouble.
And well Sorcerers can use magic, do you know how much chaos you can create with magic alone?
And for race he’d pick Dragonborn if he chose the Sorcerer
Half-Orc for Bard
Oh and his experience? Just as bad as Captain Price’s
Captain Price
First off you’d have to try to even get him to join
He’d call it childish but eventually give in to playing
Definitely had to ask Gaz to help him design his character
Also he’s pretty basic and would pick the Human to play as
His class? Probably the Barbarian cause it sounded cool to him
Just as I mentioned with Soap he barely has no experience
König
For König I’d have to say he’s definitely dabbled in dnd
He’s definitely watched YouTubers and their campaigns and when he heard about you trying to get players he was immediately down to join
For his class, he gives me Wizard or Cleric
While he can also be chaotic if he wants to he could also just be super relied on and not be seen as scary in the world of dnd which he has faced in the real world
Okay hear me out for race he would pick Dwarf or Halfling
Man’s has been tall his whole life, so who would blame him for wanting to be on the shorter side one in a while
Oh and experience? He’s got a good amount
Alejandro
Probably overheard Rudy mention it and it caught his interest
Just like the captain he also doesn’t have much experience but he wants to have fun with it and with making his character
For his class, either the Bard (Like Soap Ik) or the Ranger
It lets him be as versatile as he wants and can also charm people up if Yk what I mean.
If you’re the Dm he will ‘flirt’ with the npc’s and as a result force you to act out these scenes
Ghost
Okay now ghost here acts like he has no clue what dnd is but let’s be honest he totally knows what it is
Very stereotypical but for class I feel like he’d pick the rogue, plus it’s fitting
For his characters race? Tiefling or a Human, since they both fit him as a character
Him and Soap banter about their plans and he pulls rank every time.

First Steps: Aradin Beno x half drow! Tav
Note: it’s been a while since I’ve written fanfiction so I’m a little rusty.
AO3: First Steps: Aradin x Tav
Aradin did not know what he expected when the half-drow took the night song contract, but he knew he did not expect her to do this. She had come back to the grove with Liam draped over her back. He was barely conscious but was able to get out that he didn’t let the grove’s location slip. Aradin though Liam was as good as dead, looking at his unconscious body curled up in a sleeping back, a part of him thinks he’d be better off that way. Beyond saving Liam’s life and asking for nothing in return, the drow also retrieved some of the gear and personal items from his fallen comrades.
“It’s not much, but it will bring their family some peace,” she said. Aradin had always heard stories of Drow, cold hearted elves driven underground with their women ruling and subjugating anyone they could. But looking at her, he didn’t see anything close to those stories. At first glance, she looked like any normal half-elf with the same slightly pointed ears as Barth. But her complexion was just a tad too ashy to be normal. Almost as if she was close to death. Her hair was also another sign of her Drow heritage, it was a strange shade of white only seen on people from the under dark. The most human thing about her were her eyes. Soft, caring, and memorizing. He felt like she was staring right into his sole.
Aradin took the supplies and told his companions they’d leave as soon as Liam could travel. Before he could do much else, the half drow grabbed his arm.
“You’ll be dead if you leave the grove.” Her voice did not match the strength that she gripped his arm with. Too calm, like she had practiced saying it to everyone.
“The druids won’t like us sticking around. Better to get out now before the gobbos come back.” He tried to sound unbothered but it was difficult with her staring directly into his soul.
“We’re figuring out how to stop the ritual,” her three companions looked bored as they watched them. “Once the goblin camp is cleared, then it’ll be safe to leave.”
Aradin pulled his arm from her grasp, finding her grip all for show. “We don’t have time to wait around for you to straighten out this mess”
“The only way out is chocked with goblins, gnolls, orcs, and bugbears. We’re only alive cause I’m part drow. They won’t be as lenient to you. If you want any chance of seeing another gold piece, you’ll stay put”
The pale elf stepped up next to her, resting an arm on her shoulder, “I’d do what she says, we’d hate to wipe blood off your loot when you’re dead.” He gave a cheeky smile at his little threat.
Aradin tsked, mulling over his options. Look like a coward in front of his crew and hers or staying alive. “Fine. We’ll stay, don’t make us wait long.”
The pale elf turned away with a sing song voice saying, ‘see, it wasn’t that hard’. The wizard and cleric both looked fed up with their leader making a big fuss over him and his crew. But the drow? She gave him a soft smile that almost made Aradin forget her earlier warnings. “Thankyou,” she said before turning around to follow her companions off to their camp.
Aradin pulled himself away from staring at her retreating form to grab a drink. He sat down across from Barth and Remira, taking a long swig of the bland alcohol. The trio sat in silence for a while, each glancing over at Liam to make sure he was still there, still alive.
Remira was the first to break the silence, “she’d make a terrible sell sword. Didn’t even ask for money and gave it to us!” A large smile broke across her lips.
Barth joined in with more praise, “she also got me mum’s locked back from those brats. Thought I’d lost it forever.”
Aradin lost himself in thought about the half-drow. She was so altruistic, saving them at the gates, keeping Zevlor from attacking him, and saving Liam. She wasn’t a paladin as far as he knew. Most likely a ranger based on how she favored the bow over more close ranged weapons. He wondered why she was doing all this. Could she really afford to adventure without focusing on money? Just doing good deeds? Her companions did not seem like the type to go along with making the world a better place, but they stuck around with her.
It only took two days for her to return to the grove with Halsin in tow. The large elf didn’t seem to hold any ill will towards Aradin for leaving him to die. He’d even invited his group to stay for the party to celebrate the goblins’ defeat. Aradin almost declined until the drow caught his eyes, that sweet smile across her lips, that was all it took for him to accept.
Parties were not his thing. Not even the alcohol was enough to get him to socialize with the people there. Barth and Remira had ran off to talk to some teifling bard. Liam was healed up enough to be talking to the druids. That just left Aradin, standing off to the side, watching everyone have a good time. He was lost in thought that he didn’t realize the drow had approached him.
“Hey,” he jumped a bit but quickly composed himself, “how you enjoying the party? Worth sticking around for?” She looked up at him with such a genuine smile on her face. It had been a while sense someone looked at Aradin like that.
He took a moment to compose himself, masking it by taking a swig of the alcohol, “beats being dead. But could use better wine.”
She let out a cute giggles, “can I talk to you in private?”
That truly caught Aradin off guard, “what? Don’t want to be seen talking to me?”
She rolled her eyes, “just have a few things to discuss that I’d rather not have people eavesdropping on.”
Aradin gave her a nod and let her lead him away from the party. She took him down to the beach next to the grove. To his surprise, a white dog and owl beat cub were curled up next to each other sleeping.
“Didn’t know you brought pets with you,” Aradin was cautious not to wake to animals.
“I found them near the goblin camp. Scratch, the dog, was guarding his owner who the goblins killed and the owl bear cub was captured by the goblins after they killed his mom.” She sat down on the sand, gazing fondly at the two.
Aradin followed suit, placing himself close enough to her that they might touch without it being obvious, “you brought me out here to talk about your dog and cub?”
She shook her head but still kept looking at the duo, “I wanted to offer you some information we found on the night song,” she pulled out a small leather bound journal and opened it to a page with multiple notes scribbled down. “The night song isn’t in a Selûne temple. Whatever it is, is hidden in a Shar temple in the shadowlands.”
Aradin skimmed over the notes in her journal, they confirmed what she was saying. “So why you given this to me? I ain’t sending my crew after the night song again if that’s what worries you.”
She looked up at him, an eyebrow quirked, “while it’s not the night song, I hope Lorroakan will pay for information on its location. Especially considering he doesn’t know where it’s actually located.”
Aradin scoffed, “so you want me to be your errand boy? I ain’t-”
“I want you to take the money,” she cut him off. “Get your crew to Baldur’s Gate and get whatever the wizard is willing to pay for that information.”
That truly stunned Aradin, “what’s the catch? Drows aren’t this friendly.”
She bristled at his words. She reached up and grabbed the front of his tunic, pulling him down slightly. “I’m helping you and you insult me? Forget it you’re an ass.” She pushed him back and snatched her journal back.
“Wait, no!” She turned back to look at him, “I am… sorry. Im not used to people being nice, not without me giving something in return.” Aradin took a deep breath, steeling himself for how vulnerable he was being. “Thanks for savin’ my life, gettin Barth’s mums locket back, saving Liam and the Druid, it’s more than anyone has done for me. I don’t know what I could give you in return but thank you for all of it.”
Her face softened back to a smile, “I don’t do good things so people give me stuff. I just like helping.” She ripped the page of notes on the night song from her journal and handed to him. “All I need you to do is stay alive long enough to get some gold.”
He smiles back, in the moonlight she looked very pretty, her eyes sparkled, and Aradin’s cheeks flushed.
She began to fidget with her journal, “there is one thing I wanted to ask you to do. It’s kind of a big request but I’m willing to give you some stuff to help if you agree.”
Aradin raised a brow at her, standing up to match her gaze, “yeah? What kind of problem do you need my help with?”
“Both your crew and the Teiflings are heading to Baldur’s gate. My crew can’t accompany them so I was wondering if you would? I know you and Zevlor don’t get along but it would mean a lot if you helped them”
Aradin was disappointed that this was her request. His gut reaction was to say no, let the Teiflings fend for themselves. But her words made him second guess himself. Helping just to be nice? People don’t do that, especially for people they don’t like. Zevlor didn’t help his group when the goblins chased them back, only telling Aradin that they should have died instead of trying to live.
“Why do you do this?” Aradin asked.
“I told you I like helping?” Her brows raised.
“I mean, why do you help people that don’t like you. You’re a drow, I doubt the Teiflings or Druids were thrilled to have you running to their rescue. Hells, I was an ass to you so why are you helping me?” He gestured at himself to emphasize his point.
“I never had people want to help me when I struggled. It was just my mom and I, no one let us stay for long before running us out of town. No one wanted to help a half-drow. I don’t want to be like those people. If I can make the world just a little better, try to bring people together, maybe that wont happen to the next kid.” Her arms crossed over herself and she looked to the ground.
Aradin thought back to his own childhood. His parents weren’t around for long and he learned how to survive on the streets after they were gone. People rarely stopped to help a starving kid in Baldur’s Gate. Had he stopped to help any kids now that he was an adult? He was becoming the type of people he hated as a kid, so self focused and unable to see those struggling outside themselves.
“Fine, I’ll help get the Teiflings to Baldur’s Gate,” He finally answered. “But it Zevlor tries to punch me again, then I’m leaving him and his group behind.”
“Just don’t call him a foul blood and I think you’ll be good,” she playfully punched his arm, grinning up at him. “I have extra supplies your crew can use, some better armor and weapons.”
“You sure your crew will be fine if we take a bunch of their stuff?”
She gave him a reassuring smile, “they don’t need anything more than they can carry, they’ll understand. And thank you for agreeing to help, it means a lot and I know Zevlor and the Teiflings will appreciate it.”
“You convinced me. And thanks for the Nightsong info, I’ll get that wizard to cough up something.” Aradin reached out his hand for her to take, “would you like to stay here a little longer? You don’t get views like this in the city.”
She blushed and took his hand, “I’d like that.”
The two sat down together on the beach. The drow leaned her head against his shoulder and Aradin relaxed knowing she was feeling a similar way to him. He leaned into her, laying his head against hers. The two shared a quiet night there until they heard her crew calling out for her.
She sighed and stood up, his hand reached out to grab hers before she left, “thank you Aradin, I’ll see you in the morning.” She gave his hand a tight squeeze before walking back to camp. The owl bear cub and dog both woke up to follow her back.
Aradin waited a bit before leaving to join his own group. He found that Remira and Liam had already fallen asleep with Barth being the only one left awake.
Aradin nodded to Barth before curling up in his own sleeping bag.
“What are you doing with the drow?” Barth asked.
“Half-drow, I’ll tell you in the morning,” Aradin heard Barth chuckle before getting into his own sleeping bag.
“Whatever you say boss.”
The morning came far too quickly for Aradin’s liking and started off far too busy. From the Teiflings packing up their wagons to the druids clearing out the grove, it was all far too much. Aradin headed toward’s the other adventuring group to meet up with the Half-drow again. She created him with a big smile before pulling him over towards a traveling trunk. She pulled out some improved weapons along with armor. One of her companions stopped to chastise her about giving all their supplies away only for her to say they had more than enough.
The two set off to meet up with Aradin’s group and distribute the gear. Remira got an improved two handed bow and some bracers, Liam a sword and armor, and Barth a stronger shield.
“Oh before I forget,” she reached for her necklace and unhooked a silver pendant. “It’s enchanted to offer guidance, it will help when dealing with Zevlor.” She placed the pendant in his hand, letting her hand linger longer than necessary. With a quick squeeze she leaned forward and kissed his cheek, “good luck, I hope to see you again.” And she was off.
The feeling of her lips on his cheek lingered, he wanted to run after her and kiss her. He was knocked out of his fantasy by Barth slapping him on the shoulder.
“So you got some last night? Didn’t know Drow was your type.”
Aradin pushed Barth’s hand off him, “nothin like that happened.”
Remira laughed, “so she handed out gear for free?”
“She asked us to escort the Teiflings to Baldur’s Gate. The gear and some info on the nightsong is our payment.” Aradin explained.
Remira and Barth both looked exasperated at the thought of spending more time around the Teiflings but one look from Aradin got them heading over to the wagon train. Liam stayed besides Aradin, “so we’re helping the Teiflings out? What about what happened earlier?”
Aradin clasped Liam around the shoulder and began walking towards the wagons, “someone’s got to help them, might as well be us.”
Zevlor gave Aradin a curt nod as the two approached, “thank you for agreeing to help escort the wagons, we need all the swords we can get.”
“Don’t mention it, old man” Aradin and his crew helped load the last of the Teifling’s supplies into the wagons before pushing off to the mountain path. He looked back at the grove to try and catchable glimpse of the half drow. He saw a glimpse of her white hair before the tree line obscured her and her party. Aradin turned back to the road, he looked down at the silver pendant she had gifted him and felt the guiding energy from it.

still in AIverse hell, now considering those kids in dnd au
the first question is whether i stick more to their canon for inspiration or if i lean more towards the generic human AU i've got. the problem with the latter is that there isn't much plot or really any kind of foundation there, it's just 'modern times and also zeph is human'. so my instinct is to go the canon route, so that i at least have a starting point for whatever kind of story is going on
OKAY so the next question that follows is what the fuck is zeph's deal here. warforged are the robot equivalents in dnd but that doesn't feel right, both in appearance and especially in the species features. i think reborn is actually a better fit for him? reborn origins can be all over the place and there are examples of reborn having manufactured bodies. i think that's a more fun space to play in here, zeph already has straight-up 'sentient robot' in his canon, why not complicate the situation here. throw in some mad science. so he's a conglomeration of organic and artificial parts plus some random soul that got snatched up for the experiment. maybe he's powered by a soul gem? potentially multiple soul gems? i can include crystals in his design that way fuck yeah. so yeah, science/magic experiment that's awakened without any memories and very quickly decides uh he wants no part in this actually? this feels kinda... real fucked up. so. uh. bye
zeph escaping the necromancer somehow, he meets up with andrew eventually b/c gotta get my boys together, but we’ll touch on that later. i think zeph does get occasional flashes of memories from his previous life (lives, if there's multiple gems) but largely he just feels hugely uncomfortable and tries to ignore them. he doesn't fully conceptualize those memories as HIS, more like... he views himself as a new person with an unfortunately stolen soul. not his fault, but that person had to die for him to be here now, and he doesn't like thinking about it.
idk what class he'd be? a caster of some kind makes sense to me. sorcerer? or potentially warlock? looked up subclasses and i think warlock w/ The Undead as his patron. he wasn’t the one that made the pact, the necromancer was during his creation. zeph isn’t like... 100% sure that his patron can’t just fucking un-awaken him for not doing as instructed so he lives in fear of his patron contacting him.
now andrew... i know immediately that he's a martial class. just his vibe. fighter, i think? fighter feels the most right out of everything, and i like the cavalier subclass. it mentions that cavalier are usually born among nobility and that feels right for him. for species... half-elf sounds right. and i just really like the idea of andrew as an adventurer! exploring the world, taking on jobs as they come, trying to help people! i’m deciding now that he’s traveling with sada (air genasi artificer), aimee (half-elf ranger), and gaige (elf wizard).
andrew’s situation is much simpler than zeph’s so i don’t have as much to say about him unfortunately, sorry my son. but he and zeph run into each other shortly after zeph has escaped. i don’t know exactly how they meet, but i know that zeph would feel safer in a group than alone, and also he hasn’t been awakened for very long with only spotty memories so there’s a lot of shit he needs help with, so he might’ve been seeking a group to travel with.
i’m losing interest in this post and i don’t want it sitting in my drafts forever so we’re ending it here. i’m probably going to make character sheets tbh

ASI Part 3, Intelligence Races
Tumblr media
It occurred to me the other day that while my graphic showing the less optimal race and class combinations is a cool visual, that the ASI rule actually means that all race and class combinations can be created with a primary starting stat at 16 and potentially a secondary stat at 16. This makes the math so easy, just take 15 core races and multiply by 12 core classes to get a total of 180 unique playable builds.
When it comes to Intelligence Stat boosted Races, the options are slim. You’ve got both types of Gnome (Forrest, Rock) but also High Elves and Tieflings. Memory serves that all of these races are well known for being Wizards, Illusionists, Evokers, and Diviners.
High Elf The archetype for High Elf has primarily been the Archmage. A wizard without peer, who just happens to be a vulcan with pointy ears. I’ve even heard my party members say, “Oh right, I almost forgot that I was an elf”. This is because the boost to Intelligence was so rare in the past that people ignored most of the racial boons and focused only on the Spells.
To start, you must have heard of the feral high elf babies, Romulus and Remus, who were “raised by wolves” The first was exiled from the planet Vulcan, while the other honed their emotions. But seriously, if High Elf babies were “raised by wolves” or Orcs or another culture, they could easily be like an albino bodybuilder, a spectacle but massively strong. So a Barbarian Wolf Totem high elf with +2 strength would turn heads, especially when they cast Shocking Grasp with Advantage and granting Adv to all your allies with Wolf Pack Attacks.
Turn the Strength now towards fighter and you can boost Int to make quite the skilled Battle Master Investigator with Str +2 and Int +1 maybe sending a fire bolt into the darkness to light the way.
Now a Devoted Paladin with Str +1 and Cha +1 sounds perfect for the high elf in Mithril Full Plate and Shield
Finally, the Two Weapon Fighting Ranger with a Wolf Companion might make a Wood Elf look twice given their Str +2 and Wis +1
High Elves could easily slip into common Elven tropes like Druid or Cleric with a Wis +2 or even Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, with Cha +2
The truth is that this subrace gets an Int based cantrip that’s easy to choose something that’s not dependent on Intelligence like Mending or True Strike. Making this flavor of ASI character the “Magic Initiate” of Races.
Tiefling At 3rd level, all Tieflings get Hellish Rebuke with a Dex save DC reaction for 2d10 fire damage save for half. Hellish Rebuke is very good, even if you can only cast it once per day. The look, style, and feel of fiendish playable characters trumps everything since you can change the skin color and demonic aspects of your character to make truly unique and fantasy flavored people.
A Strength based Tiefling with Str +2 can take Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin, or any other melee character and let loose the Hellish Rebuke to surprise their enemies.
With the wisdom casters, like Cleric and Druid the Wis +2 Tiefling may actually learn Thaumaturgy for free, cancelling their 0th level racial spell, but still the flavor of casting Darkness as a Druid or Cleric is opposed by the light themes of both divine classes.
Since Hellish Rebuke works at 60 ft range, having a Tiefling with Dex +2 and as a Rogue or Ranger with a bow, it’s reassuring that anyone cherry picking the back row can get a taste of 2d10 fire damage
Dumping Charisma is tempting for most non-caster classes but even if you use Hellish Rebuke with a Charisma of 8, the DC will still be 9 at 3rd level
Gnomes I am reminded of a reddit thread that polled the most popular races and classes of players and Gnome always rated on the lowest end of the scale. This might be due to the Int boost for martial characters but also might be the reduced Speed of 25 ft. I think primarily, people conflate gnomes with Kender and play them like kleptomaniacs or misbehaved children.
Regardless of how you play your Gnomish Heroes, they have some of the best racial flavor of all other characters. The Forest Gnome gets to speak with animals and small beasts but also knows the cantrip minor illusion. Rock Gnomes have History checks on Magic and Alchemy but also have Clockwork Gadgets that entertain and can take on almost any form you want. Both of these are great flavor for your characters.
A Barbarian Gnome might have weapon shrinkage in no access to heavy weapons but he has a clockwork wolf following him arounds or even a baby chipmunk that he can talk to.
The Gnome Fighter Tinkers with gadgets, can help appraise military costs or just create weapons and fix trebuchet.
Druid and Cleric Gnomes makes so much sense since they are close to Rocks or Nature and have miniature followers. While Forrest Gnomes have experience as Rogues and Rangers, The Tinker Gnome is a welcome flavor change from the woodsy variety.
Gnomes make great Bards, Sorcerers, and Warlocks, just shaking up the norm
Int based races Concluded If you think your stats are pigeonholing your character options, then break the mold, roll up an ASI character, and throw caution to the wind.

radiant damage
I've probably written more self-indulgent things before. probably.
summary: Some absolute nonsense lotr/d&d fusion (+the characters know how d&d works) where after Amon Hen Aragorn multiclasses into paladin and Boromir gets res'd by a blood hunter cult. I’m probably never finishing a full fic of this idea, so up on tumblr it goes.
cw: canon-typical violence, canon-typical cannibalism (orcs)
The long, low blast of a horn rings out over Parth Galen.
Legolas frowns downhill. "The Horn of Gondor," he says. Aragorn knows the sound; he's heard it before, when they left Rivendell, and again when Gandalf was clinging to the edge of the cliff and Aragorn ran to his aid, Boromir on his heels.
He thinks, Boromir. He thinks, I've made mistakes.
He's running before he can think about it, sprinting past Legolas in a dead run. He has made so many mistakes this day; let this not be one of them.
Run, slash at the orc in front, jump over a root jutting from the forest floor, do not slow down, do not look back. He's not proficient in acrobatics but his survival bonus is high; luck is with him and he does not falter. When an arrow sprouts from the throat of an Uruk-Hai lunging for him from his left (critical hit), he does not acknowledge Legolas's kill and he does not stop moving. Somewhere to the right and behind him, Gimli is hacking away with his axes and yelling in Khuzdul.
The horn's cries are getting fainter, softer, too much time in-between, too much silence — Aragorn does not think about it, Aragorn does not have time for to think about it.
Until he reaches the clearing. Until he stumbles in at a full sprint and sees —
Nothing. A dozen orc bodies scattered with hacked limbs and no Boromir.
He spins in a frantic circle, eyes scanning for tracks, signs, anything. Perception is a long-practiced skill of his, surely he can find something. There — Boromir's broken sword, hilt half-buried in fallen leaves and blood, blade in shattered pieces. He feels his pulse jump into his throat. He thinks about Narsil and tries to stop.
(Sauron cut down Elendil like he was nothing.)
He will, in time, follow the orcs' footprints past the river and towards the plains of Rohan. He will find the absent Elven boat, Frodo and Sam's missing supply packs, the shield that Boromir left leaned against the trunk of a great oak tree.
Gimli and Legolas will catch up to him and they will stand in silence, the Fellowship broken beyond repair.
Boromir made his first death save when the second arrow buried itself in his gut, falling to his knees — Second Wind gone with the first arrow, no potions to begin with, Merry and Pippin screaming somewhere behind him.
Merry. Pippin.
(Natural 20.)
He got back up and went for the throat of the nearest orc, his sword shattering as it met crude, blackened armor. When the third arrow sent him back down to his knees, when the orcs picked up Merry and Pippin and carried them away, he thought, I have failed at even this.
When the Uruk-Hai captain walked downhill and pointed a drawn arrow at his chest, Boromir met his eyes and did not flinch.
"Perhaps they are dead," Gimli says. He does not say it with relish — it is a scrape in the throat, words forced from his reluctant tongue. He says it because Legolas will not, because Aragorn has slung Boromir's shield over his back and shoulders the weight like it is his guilt.
Legolas says nothing. (He does not protest Gimli's statement.)
Aragorn grits his teeth and closes his eyes, a muscle jumping in his jaw. "Frodo and Sam left intentionally. Frodo told me he was headed on alone, and I have no doubt Sam followed."
"And the others?"
"I will not leave them in the hands of the orcs," Aragorn near-snarls. There is something feral in his eyes. He is more the ranger than the leader, now, Gimli thinks. It has cost him to lose their companions in such a way, under Aragorn's guidance. That such a loss might have been inevitable does not seem to occur to him.
Gimli looks to Legolas, but the elf is staring steadily into the distance. He looks as if he is straining to spot the missing members of their erstwhile Fellowship. Elf-eyes or no, there is little chance of that, Gimli thinks.
"Aragorn," Gimli says.
The Man shakes his head. "There is hope," he insists, quietly. "They may be alive, yet. Saruman will have been looking for a Hobbit carrying what he seeks since Lothlorien — the orcs would not kill them."
Perhaps, if Saruman is sufficiently threatening and the orcs sufficiently disciplined. If orcs even have discipline. Left unsaid is what they might do to a Man. Gimli can imagine orcs carrying Merry and Pippin away — less so with a man of Gondor, and one who'd just laid waste to at least twenty of their fellows, no less.
He does not say this. There has been a desperate edge to Aragorn ever since they heard the Horn of Gondor sound in the forest. At least there is hope for the hobbits.
"I intend to go after our missing friends. Will you follow me?" Aragorn says lowly.
Gimli almost smiles. "Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens," he says mildly. "Aye, I will follow you."
Legolas, who has stayed silent thus far, circles around and nods to Aragorn. "As will I."
Aragorn fixes them with a steady look, takes a deep breath, and puts a hand on the shield. "I swear," he whispers. "I will not let our people fail."
There is a surge of energy in Gimli's veins, of wind in Legolas's hair, of light around Aragorn's hands.
(Level up.)
"I think we have subclasses, now," Pippin whispers to Merry. They're both curled up next to each other, hands bound and Pippin's temple touching Merry's. Somewhere in the darkness, the Uruk-Hai company is feeding on the fallen orc.
"Yeah," Merry says. His eyes are dark. The Uruk-Hai suddenly cheer as something cracks. Merry flinches and closes his eyes.
"What did you pick?" Pippin tries to drown out the noise of ripping flesh and crunching bone with his own voice. What is he if not a performer?
"Inquisitive," Merry whispers. "I'm sick of — not knowing."
Pippin nods. They've been many things on this journey, but he will always remember that they began because they followed Frodo out of the Shire. Even if they are out of their depth, now, it has always been their decision, at the outset. Pippin is not like his cousin or Frodo, though. His is not a mind made for clever trickery; Merry has always been the planner between the two of them.
"What about you, Pip?"
He smiles, and if it is not the smile he might've given even three days before, he thinks that is his own business. "College of Valor."
"Still dreaming about heroes," Merry says.
"We've met heroes, Merry," Pippin says. "I want to remember them."
The Uruk-Hai captain is urging his soldiers to eat. In the dark, Pippin cannot make out the shape of the great bow he carries over his shoulder.
When he wakes, he is sightless and in pain.
He gasps and the salt-slick phantom memory of blood rises in his throat and threatens to choke him. For a moment he is anchorless in the fathomless dark, fingers scrabbling for a hold on the cold, smooth thing he is lying on.
"Stop struggling," says someone, far off. "Stay down."
He opens his mouth in protest but then there is glass against his lips and weight on the center of his chest, and by the time he tastes the thing poured into his mouth — bitter and hot — he is gone again into the dark.
[Hunter's Bane: At 1st level, you have survived the Hunter’s Bane—a dangerous, long-guarded ritual that alters your life’s blood, forever binding you to the darkness and honing your senses against it.]
It turns out Legolas was poisoned by an Uruk-Hai knife back at Parth Galen. That he has not mentioned this is somehow unsurprising.
"You've been making CON saves for the last three days while at disadvantage," Aragorn says, voice deathly quiet. Gimli winces a little just to hear it, resisting the urge to back away. They are behind an outcropping of rock watching the riders approach on the plain. There is not enough space for this argument.
Legolas says, "I have been out of spell slots since we began this chase, as have you, and we have not slept. There was nothing to be done about it."
Gimli sighs.
"You are a damned idiot," Aragorn bites out. "Come here."
The elf inches closer, finally placing his arm into the Man's open hands. Aragorn, gentle for all his anger, cups his hands and whispers under his breath in a language that Gimli does not know — neither does Legolas, if his raised eyebrows are any indication. The soft white light that surrounded Aragorn's hands days ago returns, pulsing slowly and trickling into Legolas's body.
Legolas's eyebrows raise higher. "That was no Lesser Restoration."
"Like you said," Aragorn replies, drawing back. His hands are half-gloved, nails crusted with orc blood and dirt. Sometimes Aragorn looks kingly in Gimli’s eyes, noble and proud as any dwarf lord, but right now he is filthy and ragged with desperation. "I've been out of spell slots since we started this chase."
Gimli reaches the answer first: "You took a level in paladin?"
This from the Man who would not take up his ancestral sword. And what has he sworn on, anyway, to grant him this grace?
Legolas narrows his eyes. Before he can speak, the fair-haired riders thunder past their position and Aragorn dives into the open to address them.

Night Watch
Tumblr media
a/n: im posting this short fic, it was supposed to stay in my notes but I rediscovered it and really loved how it sounded. I was later convinced to post this by my bestie @bbyboybucket so babe this is for you 🥴😩
Summary: So, X is a biologically female, half-elf, ranger. they/them pronouns will later be used for X but Fili will only be using her/she, considering he's not educated about this yet. I have plans to continue this maybe Fili has to stay up for the night watch but he was lonely.
but yeah this is super self-indulgent, so sorry 😩
He didn’t realize she were female at first, and by the time he was told of her half-elven race along with her gender, he couldn’t find it in himself to care. It’s not as though she lied either, after all they hadn’t asked. And though her voice was pretty, it was gruff, tired, and a bit deeper than most women, so no one had thought she was anything else other than a man, unfortunately they were quick to settle on the idea she must’ve been a man based on her incredible skills. Sexist, he realises this now.
Fíli continued thinking of her, drawing her in his thoughts. She had a wider frame, her shoulders broad and strong, her muscles big but she wasn’t not feminine. Her face was strong, yes, but it was smooth and kind, especially when she smiled. He loved her smile. He loved her jokes, and how even she would laugh at her own. It was endearing.
When her face was finally revealed her eyes were piercing, they were a steal blue, often fluctuating from blue to grey. And she had light freckles he only ever noticed when she returned from bathing. Dirt no longer covering them.
He hadn’t told his Uncle Thorin yet. He knew he wasn’t fond of elves and by the reaction he had to her reveal when she’d been badly injured and patched, he was hesitant. He had hinted it to his brother Kíli however, of course he was teased and pushed to talk to her by him but he was there when Fíli needed him, and a ear to rant to. So Fíli was thankful.
Fíli looked at the supposedly sleeping figure beneath her sleeping bag. “X?” He tried, waiting for anything. “Hm?” X hummed, eyes still closed, having heard him. “You tired?”
“No, not really”
“would you like to stay up with me?” he asks, voice hopeful. Without a word she got up and reached for his hand using the excuse of helping to guide him through the dark, though he could’ve himself. Both reddened faces moved away from the company. They sat close together against a boulder, looking over the cliff at the stars.
“Lonely?” X said, breaking the silence.
“Hm?”
“Keeping watch, I mean?” She clarified.
“Yes. I thought you might be awake”
she turned her eyes away from the speckled sky to look at Fíli, “and I was,” she studied his profile openly, “either way I enjoy your company” Fíli turned to x who was smiling softly at him, a light pink covering the apples of her cheeks. He didn’t know what to say for a moment,
“you tease me too much, X”. She takes Fíli’s hand with both of hers, fiddling with his fingers lovingly. She sighed, resting her head on his,
“I flirt with you, but it’s always genuine, I’ve never been one to hide my feelings.”
Fíli’s heart pounds, well aware that X could hear it. This time he truly is speechless, he just stares at his hand being held by X, shocked, but happy.

Due to being insane, I’ve spent a lot of free time trying to figure out where Gregory and Christophe might fit into two of the “canon” South Park AUs. I’m still unsure about TFBW, but I’ve got some ideas about TSOT.
Christophe:
Alright so I think it would be very fun for Christophe to be a half elf? Maybe his mother is full high elf, father was human, Christophe is a bastard. He grows up in the elven kingdom but is noticeably Different with his ears still being pointy but being much shorter than others (i like imagining high elves w long pointy ears). He still does mercenary work starting from a young age, but I think one day he has to break into the palace grounds to do a job and sees the garden being improperly cared for... so he starts breaking in regularly to make it good. Eventually he gets caught but Kyle realizes he’s why the garden looks good now, so pardons him as king and hires him to be the royal gardener. Christophe grows to like only Kyle, even getting a crush on him (but he catches the king and his ranger together in the middle of the royal maze at one point which dashes any hopes he has). He enjoys his gardening job and is fine living peacefully, but he will not hesitate to throw hands if someone steps on the flowerbeds.
Gregory:
Gregory is definitely born nobility of some kind and I think it makes sense for him to be from the human kingdom (Kupa, that is). He excelled in school and is fairly good at hand to hand combat, specifically with a rapier, but he is more of an intellectual than a fighter. Maybe he has some cushy, non-combat army role at some point, but I think he finds that boring and instead becomes a royal advisor for both Wizard King Cartman and Princess Kenny (he prefers working with the latter). Memorizing political situations and advising on solutions for them makes him feel like he’s in charge, which is what he really wants but he’s aware that isn’t available to him... but he is definitely working to change that via a secret rebellion group. Gregory does get betrayed though when a lot of his rebel group aka La Resistance ends up defecting to the Dark Kingdom.

DCMK / DND Crossover Time:
(Since I’ve been thinking way too much about this figured I’d finally post it) (●'◡'●)
Shinichi / Conan: Sorcerer (with some inquisitive rogue levels). Originally had human stats, got a Nat 1 on perception and insta-killed, DM allowed Shinichi to continue on the condition he was cursed. Now has halfling stats because Conan is a VERY lucky kid and just tiny in general. Still trying to figure it out. Half the party doesn’t know.
Ran: Paladin. What more do I need to say. She protecc and attacc, because this bi queen can do it all. Aasimar because she’s a literal angel.
Haibara: Wizard. Straight up. She’s a smart, intuitive person who now controls her own magic and knowledge. Gnome stats because she’s really crafty and helping Agasa out, but probably actually half-elf as Shiho.
Heiji: Warlock (with some fighter levels). Lol his patron is his dad sucks for you Heiji. Half-Orc because they’re my favorite along with halflings.
Kazuha: Cleric with a level or two in Monk. She’s an all-powerful girl with an affinity for spirituality and the super-natural. How else did she and Heiji escape from the mermaid island cliff? Human!
Agasa: Artificer. Just an artificing gnome dude. (NPC)
Sera: Monk. The only thing that’s straight (ha) - forward about her. Half-elf, half-orc (it explains her little fangs).
Sonoko: Bard because I love her and her flamboyancy. Elf noble. (NPC)
--
Kaito: Arcane Trickster Rogue / Bard multiclasser. A flashy yet sneaky moonlit thief. Changeling (Chikage - rogue) but also Half-elf (Toichi - bard). He’s always having identity crises.
Aoko: Barbarian. She just seems like she would know her way around stuff but not always attuned to the social graces of those around her. Or ranger. Either way, go off baby girl. Human (1/4 orc).
Akako: Warlock, demonic patron. Girl sold her soul to the devil and likes it. Elf? Tiefling? Who knows but she’s really rocking it.
Hakuba: Wizard because he’s a nerd. Absolutely an elf, super stuffy.
Nakamori: Barbarian. He has in-canon rages lol. 1/2 orc.
--
Bonus:
Kogoro: Monk, drunken master subclass. Just trying his best. Human. (NPC)
Eri: Paladin, Aasimar, done with your shit.
Sato: paladin, half-elf.
Takagi: fighter, human.
Megure: fighter, dwarf.
Amuro: Tiefling Paladin.
Akai: Ranger-Rogue multiclasser. subclass is gloomstalker ranger and assassin rogue respectively. Same as Sera, half-elf, half-orc. Sneaky but also very good at ranged combat. Foil to Gin.
Gin: Ranger-Rogue multiclasser. same as Akai, except more obviously evil. Drow / Dark elf because it explains his (beautiful) white hair and why he covers up so much of his skin with his hat and trenchcoat lol.
Vodka: Rogue, dwarf.
Vermouth: ??? Goddess???? Demi-god???? Can do whatever she pleases.
Kids: they’re too little to have a job picked out!! However, Genta as orc / half-orc, Ayumi as human, and Mitsuhiko as elf/half-elf. Mitsuhiko is clearly a budding wizard.

omg second surprise dnd mutual this week 👀👀 tell me about ur characters plssss
Okay, so I have several I've played and I like a lot so I'm gunna put this under a read more
my first dnd character was for 3.5e, and his name was Deklan and he was a half-elf ranger who honestly did not want to be an adventurer, but who dreamed of being a carpenter. He was very good at shoot and talk, and had a very tired, over-all-of-this personality when not rolling charisma and spent a lot of time carving ducks.
Next was was Mehlz, a bronze Dragonborn cleric for 5e. She was neutral good, believed in helping and healing those in need, was naive and kind of gullible as she was raised in a Temple of Bahamut as an orphan and oh God I have so much character work for her and so much worldbuilding for the insular Dragonborn nation she came from that I actually am going to re-use it somehow. Anyways, she was very good at hit thing with hammer and shoot lightning and the only character figurine i ever made off roll20 like 6 years ago
Tumblr media
i love her so much. My favorite thing about her gamewise is that she had the Tavern Brawler feat and used that liberally to proficiently throw her best friend and fellow party member as an improvised weapon. Said bff was a sentient red panda who was also a monk.
There was Virga for a modified Curse of Strahd campaign that took place in the real world so we were forced to be human. He was a terrible French Catholic priest who was extra as hell, a warlock for the Raven Queen, sarcastic and mean, and his preferred mode of fighting was smacking people with his silver tipped cane. He became a wereraven, had a Charisma score 22, and was the cause of one party member dying due to a critical failure which I felt SO BAD FOR. I genuinely liked playing as the Bird Man and his bitchy attitude and his ending was finally getting a date with the other wereraven dude he got cockblocked from flirting with twice previously.
Right now, we have Isaria, another half-elf and they are a circle of spores druid. They are very quiet, shy, have rather poor people skills (which is a first for me to make Charisma a dumb stat), and are often very blunt when talking to someone and in their actions. Their goal is to find a way to prolong life using necromancy after the traumatic death of most of their home village due to a famine and often slips away from the party to experiment with various poisons and potions and undead. They are honestly a druid for all the wrong reasons and I'm digging them so far. They are also the shortest character I’ve ever made.
Special mention to my Star Wars ttrpg character who was my all time favorite and a character I want to reuse elsewhere. Dekle' was a cyborg Zabrak space pirate with a Southern accent, a giant metal phrik-coated arm, and a penchant for robots and punching things really really good. In session three, she took a grenade to the face from a guy running into her on a speeder, in which her response was to punch the guy off the speeder, eat the explosion like a champ, and then steal the vehicle. She was a brick shithouse who dished out bullshit damage because it turns out the Star Wars ttrpg just has a lot of perks specifically for hand to hand combat and why the fuck would I be a jedi when I could be a walking tank? Her and her ward (a fellow party member and a force sensitive Twi'lek teenager who used force lightning and a wrist rocket) were the cause of many DM headaches for the dumb shit we did, up to and including jumping onto a TIE-fighter and punching in the windshield to pull the pilot out, nuking a room of stormtroopers, and beating in Darth Vader's face.
My favorite exchange EVER was when the game was starting out, and the jedi who joined up with Dekle' and her ward Ro'ena had noticed that Ro was force sensitive and used force lightning untrained. So she pulls Dekle' aside and asks point blank if Dekle' had ever notice anything off about Ro in the seven or so years she's been raising the Twi'lek. To which Dekle' responded 'who? the living taser?' before looking over at Ro for a second or two and then shrugging and continuing 'no, I ain't noticed nothing weird about her. why?' Just a defining moment for one dumbass butch space pirate.
And also special mention to a character I only played in three sessions of a Fallout game a friend was testing out. His name was Anders, he was a ghoul, and he was a lucky charismatic crackshot who broke the game so bad, I was jokingly banned from further playtests after he oneshot a dude in power armor with his shitty revolver. He's an OC I still think about because he's a trashfire, just an absolute garbage boy, no redeeming qualities, would sell you for one corn chip, 10/10 I love him very much.

Children of the Lockdown - Sharing characters made during quarantine
Tumblr media
Hullo, Gentle Readers. This week’s Question from a Denizen is an intriguing one, and it comes from a longtime questioner, our friend Graham-chesir. They ask, “So what do you think would be the best way for people to share the characters they made during quarantine but never got the chance to play, characters that eventually got full backstories and intended plots & futures?”
I have a confession to make, Gentle Readers. I am not one of those people who creates slews of random characters. Every once in a while, I come up with an idea, but it’s almost always because someone has told me, “Hey, I’m going to run a game. Want to play?” Now, because this doesn’t always result in a game actually happening, I do, in fact, have plenty of characters around that I’ve never played. But I don’t really just sit down and make them for fun. Concepts? Sure. I come up with character concepts all the time, but I generally pop them into a file I use to make NPCs for my campaigns.
Now, I know there are people who enjoy just making characters, but, given how rarely I get to play, this would feel like teasing to me. That’s not to say that, when I make a character, I don’t throw myself into it whole-heartedly. I once created a gnoll PC for a one-shot session and wrote 6 pages of backstory for him. I’m a storyteller by my nature, so I like to think about characters I’m going to play and come up with some idea of who they are. In this case, our characters were going to be high-level, so I felt justified. 15th level gnoll rangers don’t just come from nowhere, after all.
Someday, I may play Marikith Wintermane again, but maybe not. I have plenty of concepts if another campaign pops up in the future.
Anyway, back to the question. So I’m guessing we have lots of cool characters getting made, but no easy way to share them. Well, there are plenty of ways to get them out there. One option would be to convert them to NPC stat blocks and put them up on D&D Beyond. DMs can always use well fleshed-out NPCs, and it’s a way for you to give your creation out while simultaneously helping beleaguered DMs who don’t have time to make a new NPC and just need something premade.
There are plenty of D&D Forums out there. You might find one you like and start a thread for exactly this purpose. Most are likely to have a similar thread already, and you can get your ideas out as well as enjoy other peoples’ ideas. There are some good Telegram groups as well. I have one related to this blog that I started, and I know we’ve shared character ideas and art with each other. Since I’m already mentioning it, if anyone wants a link, just send me a private message on Telegram - I’m Aethanbear there - and ask to join the D&D group.
If you enjoy writing, one way to share a character is to write a story with them in it. At the end of the story, you could give game information about the character, along with a stat block or character sheet, if you were so inclined. Likewise, if you draw, paint, or otherwise create art, you could share art of your character, along with the character sheet. You could even create a blog, like this, to share your stories and art, maybe linking individual articles through a Twitter account if you generally prefer that.
In the end, of course, the best way to share a character is to play them in a game. Hopefully GMs are feeling just as creative during this quarantine as players, and new campaigns will be springing up, either remotely or once in-person gaming begins again safely. I know my campaign is being held in tableau, frozen just as the PCs have turned 20th level, because my players want to play out the battle with the Tarrasque in person. As a result, I’m running a linked side campaign with brand new characters which I intend to have consequences to the main campaign as well. The characters that my characters have created are pretty interesting - a laidback and affable Human Barbarian who prefers not to fight; a half-elf rogue who’s trying to get by on sheer charisma; a gnome charlatan illusionist who possesses a gender-swapped secret identity; a kobold artificer with a penchant for explosives; a yuan-ti pureblood druid with a fascination for the stars; and a loxodon monk who longs to be small. They’re great characters, and I can’t wait to see where things go for them. But, without the pandemic, we might never have seen them, and my main campaign would likely be long over.
GC, I hope this has given you some ideas. Maybe we could have some guest articles where people share character ideas. If anyone would be interested in reading or contributing, let me know. I like to grow and change this blog over time, and that could be a fun new feature.

Slash/Paladins!
So here’s the results of an idea I’ve been fiddling with for a while with my allies at @wearepaladin in mind! Occasionally Pally and Squire post concepts for cross-class paladin builds, and I decided to run with the idea and create a series of multi-class paladins for each of the core D&D classes (yes, there is a paladin/paladin). I call them the Order of the Motley and deliberately made them from varying races and backgrounds. They’re allies of my other simliar creation, the Order of Hellblood, only all paladins instead of knights. As always, feedback is always welcome! @weareadventurers, @fuckyeahheroforgecreations

Jooheon sighed, if this was one of his favorite animes, he was certain there would be a large tick mark right on his forehead. Tired, just getting over his cold, and behind in work, this "Ramen cafe" was the last place he wanted to be. Slurping noodles while laughing over the video games, or perusing seemingly endless lines of books.
This cafe at one point must have been a book cafe, or library, mused the young rapper, fingers tracing down the weathered leather spine of an early translation for J.R.R Tolkiens Silmarillion.
"Do you like Tolkien? If you like his works you should check out Christopher Paolini's Eragon. It's written in a more modern style since the author is from this century but still an impressive work." Turning Jooheon blinked at the shorter figure beside him.
Surprised to find anyone in this remote dusty corner of forgotten shelves, and slightly irritated that his piece and quiet had been disturbed by this unknown intruder. Their obviously foreign accent making him brace, ready to have to interpret for them to the best of his ability, Idol smile spreading onto his lips with a forced tightness. However, the minute your sparkling eyes met his, Jooheon found himself merely staring dumbly, all words and tension gone.
You were dazzling, earth-shatteringly beautiful as you placed a heavy bound book in his hands, explaining about the young female dragon and boy within its pages. How your eyes sparkled, the way your teeth winked at him as you spoke, the cute way you got more excited when he nodded numbly to what you were saying, pushing hair behind your ear as you practically bounced on the balls of your feet.
By god, you were so cute. Jooheon couldn't resist the goofy little smile as you beamed up at him, his heart skipping a beat as a small giggle left your curved lips. When you suddenly stopped speaking and just looked up at him expectantly for a few moments, Jooheon realized he had not truly heard what you were saying. Blinking rapidly to clear his fogged Jooheon laughed nervously, a blush coming to grace his dimpled cheeks and ears.
"Uh I-I'm sorry what was your name again?" He asked rubbing the back of his head as he stalled for time, glancing down to discern the title on the book you had handed him. The way your cheeks flushed however nearly had him blanking out a second time. As you told him your name Jooheons smile only grew.
"Thank you, I appreciate your recommendation, but to be honest I've never read Tolkien either. Could you tell me a bit about it?" Jooheon could have listened to you talk all day, the way your eyes lit up, how excited you were as you explained who J.R.R. Tolkien was, the way he had built these worlds and how he had influenced today's fantasy novels, and on; his arms slowly becoming laden down with the books you recommended. It was such a magical moment as your hand brushed his offering to help hold the heavy texts, heart skipping a beat, skin tingling where you had touched him. But he shook his head beaming, how your small form would fare under the pile of heavy tomes he didn't know.
"I got it, I'm big and strong see?" He winked at you flexing to make you laugh and instantly, losing control of the stack in his hands. Luckily your hands were as skilled as his rapping, for you quickly snatched the book out of the air and helped him prevent more from tumbling out of his arms.
"Why don't we go set these on the counter for you?" You laughed, shaking your hair from your eyes. It was only at that moment that Jooheon noticed the worker's badge on your dress, the words store manager emblazoned above it in gold English lettering.
"Thank you." He said in English eyes crinkling as he smiles.
"Hmmm actually perhaps we should take these to a table instead, less chance of someone recognizing you." Surprised at your open acknowledgment of who he was, Jooheon let you guide him to a table half-hidden behind a bookshelf, yet with a nice view of the computer area, where the rowdy voices of his members echoed out into the air between slurps of ramen and noisy chewing of tteokbokki.
"You know who I am?" He asked surprised, though, in all honesty, he knew he shouldn't have been.
"Am I not supposed to?" You asked surprised, eyebrows raising. "Monsta x is well known, plus your members have talked about you a lot when they visit."
For some reason knowing you were close to his members enough to have spoken about him thoroughly with them made him grumpy rather than happy. The odd feeling was wiped away though as you offered to bring over some snacks.
"I'm technically on break, but if you'd prefer I leave you alone to read-"
"NO!" Jooheon caught himself as he blurted out the words. "I mean no, I'm pretty hungry. What would you recommend?"
Jooheon was double startled when he pulled out his card you refused to take it, laughing and saying not to worry about it, before disappearing with his order into the kitchen area by the front desk.
"It's on the house don't worry about it." You giggled setting down two trays of the best ramen and ramune, once again pushing his card back. A small smile slipping across his face once more as you both ate, your fingers holding the chopsticks worked hard not to make a mess were so adorable to him.
"Here like this." Chuckling after you let a slice of chashu fall once more into the bowl, Jooheon scooted closer arms wrapping around you with ease, adjusting your fingers upon the two long sticks. Neither of you aware of the suddenly extra loud yelp from the members as Minhyuk spotted him at just that moment, smacking Kihyun repeatedly and pointing.
"Oh thank you!" Your blush was adorable and Jooheon made sure to tell you so, poking your cheek and serving up his best aegyo.
Unaware of his member's incredulous stares, Jooheon spent the next few hours leaning in and discussing books he'd never before had any interest in before now.
"It was really nice getting to meet you finally!" Your words eased his sadness at parting, as you locked up the store behind them.
"I'll make sure to read these so next time I visit you can tell me about the next part! Ramens on me too." Your beaming grin warmed his heart, waving to you as he left, books stacked in his other arm.
"I didn't think we were allowed to take books out of the cafe?" Wonho eyed the stack of books in his arms curious.
"She said I could since no one had taken interest in them in years. They're her favorite-" "Please tell me you got her number." Chuckled Changkyun, however as Jooheon stopped in his spot the others burst into laughter.
"It's fine one of us can give you-"
"No! I'll get it from her next time!" I'll woo her on my own thanks." Despite many offers, Jooheon was insistent, though later on when his schedule kept him from visiting and his members teasingly bragged about talking to you he did regret it...just a bit. However the beaming smile on your face when he eventually walked into the cafe proudly carrying the finished novels. The boys thought that your meeting, at last, was a wondrous thing, your personalities blended so beautifully, as well the mutual support and mutual adoration was adorable. That was until the only thing they became able to do when they went out was your cafe, where Jooheon spent hours following you around or huddled in a corner going over books or whatever else caught your fancies that week. But for you and Jooheon, your budding relationship was perfect. Even the secret after hour ramen and chill sessions that went from innocent snuggling and video game playing or reading to uh...well the intended Korean innuendo of ramen and chilling. "Can you be the elf princess to my ranger king?" He asked holding you close as you wandered down the streets together towards home.
"Cheesey!" You teased him, but of course, in the end, you agreed.
