Handfasting is a centuries old tradition of signifying marriage between partners, especially when there where no clergy available to perform a religious service. A braided and decorated cord of colorful ropes or ribbons would be wrapped around the hands of the intended couple, declaring their desire to be bound to each other. Love this! An amazing 3 tier cake sets the stage for our cake table, filled with lots of meaningful details. On a vintage copper stand, our cake has a dark green bottom layer and two smaller layers covered in black fondant. A small golden hoop adorned with fall flowers completes the design. A pale grey tablecloth is topped with a darker grey sequin runner. Green napkins and glass plates are waiting for a delicious slice of the decadent cake. The cake knife set was tied with ribbons of peach and gold chevron pattern. In the gold frame was a poem about marriage, by a Celtic author. The small green plaque next to it had an inspirational quote about family. A few other signs were added near the bottom of the table, along with candles and a vintage fabric pumpkin. An eclectic mixture of items, but charming, nonetheless. You don't always have to use flowers to dress up a dining table. On our guest table from our Practical Magic inspired styled bridal photo shoot, we used an antique lamp, sprigs of greenery, pinecones and teasels as our centerpiece. Orange votive candles wrapped in twine and fabric, along with green glass votives etched with leaves, brought dancing lights to the design. Gleaming charger plates, sheer green glass plates, and matching drinking glasses completed our tableware. This eclectic mix looked amazing against our dark grey sequin table runner, and emerald green linens.
