THE X-FILES (1993-2018)
SEASON THREE — Don’t you see, Mulder? You’re doing their work for them. You’re chasing aliens that aren’t there, helping them to create a story to cover the shameful truth. And what they can’t cover, they apologize for. Apology has become policy.

i will literally never stop thinking about that one glass onion analysis video that said “i wouldn’t say i’d destroy [the mona lisa] to save a stranger’s life, but honestly? it’s kinda fucked up that i wouldn’t. we should value a person’s life, stranger or not, more than a piece of art.” like that changed something in me. bc our society DOES value art. not new art, not artists, sure, but it values the results. they put the results at a higher value than the artist themself, and if they think the results is worthless? they’ll still value the artist less than the result.

It feels soooo silly to be like ‘holy shit, did you know oil & gas companies are evil?’ like ‘wooow omg did you know water is weT?’
But I was at a talk yesterday about fracking & they’re just, SO evil. It’s insane how evil they are?
First off, they are deliberately targeting traumatised communities. The activists I was listening to were from Northern Ireland, where approx 45% of adults have PTSD. The oil and gas companies were targeting NI because 1. the communities are so divided by the Troubles that they can’t always put prejudice aside to fight a big complicated fight, 2. similarly the political structures in NI exist on a sliding scale between ‘weak’ and ‘nonfunctional’, due to all the trauma and violence and division & they can’t effectively like, pass laws preventing extraction.
BUT if you do manage to develop laws preventing extraction, you’re still not safe ....because the oil and gas companies just change their terms! Say you outlaw fracking, right - they come back in two years time saying ‘ok, this thing we want to do now is the exact same industrial process, EXCEPT we are using a SLIGHTLY different machine so we aren’t calling it ‘fracking’ anymore. Now it’s called [dumb new acronym], and its totally legal!’
Oil and Gas companies lied consistently about the health impact of drilling/fracking/extraction on local communities, while the medical & scientific community spent decades building up irrefutable evidence that living near oil, gas, or coal extraction sites increases asthma, autoimmune diseases, infertility, cancer risk, etc.
Then what do the oil and gas companies do when they can’t lie anymore??? they just IGNORE IT. One activist (who was also a doctor) had a meeting with senior civil servants asking them to justify giving extraction licenses, given the health implications. And the senior civil servants said WAIT. WHAT HEALTH IMPACTS? WE’VE BEEN IN TALKS WITH THIS COMPANY FOR 3 YEARS NO ONE MENTIONED ANY HEALTH IMPACTS?
If you manage to create the community power & political will to prevent them from extracting oil and gas – they sue you for lost earnings! Millions & billions of pounds, euros, etc. Because there’s some international energy agreement that means they could have expected to earn money drilling somewhere, and you subvert that expectation, they can SUE YOU for what they ARGUE they MIGHT HAVE earned from drilling down there.
So now, when people create geothermal energy infrastructure, that involves drilling down into rock. If an oil or gas company gets their hands on that rock sample and finds there might be oil or gas down there, they can turn up out of NOWHERE and say ‘hey, we want to drill under this city centre because we saw there’s probably oil down there’ & the city are like ‘wtf? No?’ to which, oil and gas companies can say ‘yes. I expected you to say that. We’re now suing you for €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€!’
evil! evil! evil! evil!

I've had enough of vanilla and rain and smoke and whatever the FUCK sandalwood is. Here are some uncommonly used scents I've encountered and enjoyed in this life
Fresh clean laundry
Leather
Wood
Paper (old or new)
Sugarcane
Honey
Ginger
Straw
Rosin
Cocoa
Dough
Oats
Herbs (maybe not just mint bc her back is TIRED with how much she carries in here)
Any of the holy hard spices. Not just cinnamon‐ but also anise, clove, nutmeg, AND the savory queens like paprika and cardamom
Root vegetables (Listen. Listen. They're all good and unique and tasty and you need to hear me out on this)
Also since things like candles, incense, soaps, candies and teas can come in many different flavors/scents but will always have some underlying scent from their base material attached to them, they make for good layered/complex scents
This is more of a pet peeve than anything but an easy way to make up cooler scents is to just. Be specific. Especially if your starting idea is super broad. "she smelled like trees" pick a tree "they smelled like bread/pastries" pick one "he smelled like flowers" I'm telling you the are so many unique— and maybe even symbolic if that's your plan— flowers at your disposal rn
NOTHING wrong with these scent choices they're all good and I love them dearly but. I can only read about so many flower boys before I go a little crazy. The world has too many amazing scents for us to be running the one okay scent of general flowers into the ground

i need to draw this part of mochi more but she is honestly, from an onlookers perspective, very weird. and the reason for it is that she has a habit of collecting and hoarding old, gross, used, useless, or otherwise unwanted things.
as a witch, anything can be used all spell ingredients because objects in the world inherently have properties that can be used for spells (think botw where its like "old snail shell can boost speed" kind of thing), and often times the properties are stronger AFTER said object has been gently to moderately used. an eraser has good properties for glue spells BUT a used and chewed on eraser has STRONGER properties for glue spells
so when she was a little kid, in school you could catch her on the floor scraping up eraser shavings that a kid brushed off his desk. the teacher tries to empty out the pencil shavings bin and mochi ZOOMS in with a jar to catch all of it before it goes into the trash. a kid sticks their gum under the desk and 10 minutes later mochi is on the floor scraping it off and putting it in a little box. and when they were young it really FREAKED lime out, but over time hes like "Whatever, you do you i guess." (shes trying to be a good little witch-to-be and help her mom collect potion ingredients)
as she grows up she gets better at blending in and and uhh NOT doing that, but occasionally you'll still catch her picking up old chewed on pencils, rusty paper clips, soggy pieces of paper, whatever off the floor
