Out on the sea, we'd be forgiven Our bodies stopped the spirit leavin' Wouldn't you like to know How far you've got left to go? (🎶)
Some Whale AU illustration I did, of Aisling's glorious sistemation. Last thing I did in 2023, as per my usual, it's someone sleeping. Snippet (very brief!) and work in progresses under the cut!
Dear Mia, Everything is fine, stop meddling. My host is perfectly fine and I'm not bothering her. She insisted for me to stay some more, I am sure it's just that I cook so she can study. I'm feeling better, but I think I'll stay here for a while still. To recover, yes. Cullen

Note! I'm working on her background, but I'm pretty much decided: dad is Irish, was forced to escape when it was discovered he was in the Fenian society (oops). Mom was Ukrainian. I'm still unsure where they ran too, but could also decide on going full background and have them three stranded to Sardinia. The shawl is a ukrainian hurstka, it's one of the warmest thing ever (seriously, I have one and I can't wear it because I don't live in a country that's cold enough) and it was mom's. The framed drawing is dad's.

Perspective's Sentence Starters; 1989 (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift (Part III)
"SLUT!"
Being this young is art.
What if all I need is you?
Got love-struck, went straight to my head.
Got lovesick all over my bed.
Love to think you’ll never forget.
Lovelorn and nobody knows
I'll pay the price, you won't.
If I’m all dressed up, they might as well be lookin' at us.
If they call me a slut, you know it might be worth it for once.
If I'm gonna be drunk, I might as well be drunk in love.
Everyone wants him, that was my crime.
The wrong place at the right time.
In a world of boys, he's a gentleman.
We’ll pay the price, I guess.
This is luxury.
You're not sayin' you're in love with me.
It might blow up in your pretty face.
SAY DON'T GO
I've known it from the very start, we’re a shot in the darkest dark.
It won't stop.
Halfway out the door, but it won't close
I'm holdin' out hope for you.
Say, "Don't go".
I would stay forever if you say, "Don't go".
Why'd you have to lead me on?
Why’d you have to twist the knife?
Walk away and leave me bleedin’?
Why’d you whisper in the dark just to leave me in the night?
Now your silence has me screamin'.
You kiss me and it stops time.
I'm yours, but you're not mine.
Why'd you have to make me want you?
Why'd you have to give me nothin' back?
Why'd you have to make me love you?
I said, "I love you".
NOW THAT WE DON'T TALK
I heard from everybody.
You part the crowd like the Red Sea.
Did you get anxious though, on the way home?
I guess I'll never, ever know.
You grew your hair long.
You got new icons.
From the outside it looks like you're tryin' lives on.
I miss the old ways.
You didn't have to change.
I guess I don't have a say.
She said that it was for the best.
The more I gave, you'd want me less.
I cannot be your friend.
I pay the price of what I lost.
What do you tell your friends we shared dinners, long weekends with?
I can't pretend it's platonic.
She said to get it off my chest.
Remind myself the way you faded 'til I left.
I don't have to pretend I like acid rock.
Guess maybe I am better off now that we don't talk.
Guess this is how it has to be now that we don't talk.
SUBURBAN LEGENDS
You had people who called you on unmarked numbers in my peripheral vision.
All was quickly forgiven.
You were so magnetic, it was almost obnoxious.
I didn't come here to make friends.
We were born to be suburban legends.
When you hold me, it holds me together.
You kiss me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever.
I had the fantasy that maybe our mismatched star signs would surprise the whole school.
You'd be more than a chapter in my old diaries with the pages ripped out.
I know that you still remember.
We were born to be national treasures.
You told me we'd get back together.
I broke my own heart 'cause you were too polite to do it.
You don't knock anymore and my whole life's ruined.
IS IT OVER NOW?
You still wouldn't go.
Let's fast forward to three hundred takeout coffees later.
I see your profile and your smile on unsuspecting waiters.
You dream of my mouth before it called you a lying traitor.
You search in every maiden's bed for somethin' greater.
Was it over when she laid down on your couch?
Was it over when he unbuttoned my blouse?
Was it over then?
Is it over now?
Your new girl is my clone.
Did you think I didn't see you?
At least I had the decency to keep my nights out of sight.
Only rumors 'bout my hips and thighs and my whispered sighs.
Oh, Lord, I think about jumpin' off of very tall somethings just to see you come runnin'.
Say the one thing I've been wanting.
Let's fast forward to three hundred awkward blind dates later.
If she's got blue eyes, I will surmise that you'll probably date her.
You search in every model's bed for somethin' greater.
SWEETER THAN FICTION
You never saw it comin'.
Now you've come undone.
Wish I could make it better.
Someday, you won't remember this pain you thought would last forever and ever.
I will say, "I knew it all along".
This life is sweeter than fiction.
All you got are your shattered hopes.
They never saw it comin'.
Now you're on to somethin'.
Proved me right when you proved them wrong.
It's like we don't remember the rain we thought would last forever and ever.
All at once, the rest is history.
Look at you now.
You've made us proud.
You know that I'll be there time and again.

A Daughter's Lacrimosa
Tumblr media
Kaoru always hated this part of her birthday. She knew she didn't have to do this. No one would blame her if she just stopped. However for whatever reason Kaoru continued to do this every year on her birthday ever since that fateful day eight years ago.
It was peaceful and Kaoru wasn't sure if that made her feel better or worse. It felt like the world was mocking her with the lovely day. The sun's gentle rays on her face and the chirping birds made Kaoru want to scream. How could the world be so cheerful in the face of her grief? As Samatoki Aohitsugi said, “life is not fair” and Kaoru had learned that the hard way a long time ago.
Kaoru stopped as she looked at the entrance of the cemetery. She was alone as Yuriko and Kanra understood as that was how she preferred it as they patiently waited for her return. She took a deep breath as she entered the cemetery. Despite only visiting a few times Kaoru knew by heart where to go. Walking by a sea of grey stone Kaoru read the names of those on it, her way of distracting herself from the grief logged in her throat. Grief nearly tore itself from her mouth as Kaoru finally spotted what brought her here. The dark gray of her family's grave always made Kaoru want to run away but she stayed, she owed her family that much.
It was with a shaking hand that Kaoru reached out and traced the kanji that made up her family's names. The feeling of the polished stone brings cold comfort to the grieving genius.
Raito Shinozaki
Shizuka Shinozaki
Yakumo Shinozaki
Tears began running down her face as she reached the end of her brother's name. Gently placing her forehead on the grey stone. Kaoru felt her tears falling from her face, wetting the grave beneath her.
"Hey Papa, Mama, Nii-san it's been a while since I've visited you guys. It's my birthday today but I'm sure you already knew that." Kaoru sobbed out.
It was at that moment that the dam that was Kaoru's grief broke as she let out a violent sob. Her tears nearly choked her as Kaoru wrapped her arms around the gravestone. A pitiful attempt at comforting herself. The cold stone couldn't replace her family's arms. It couldn't hug her back and tell her it'll be okay. Oh, how Kaoru hated that fact more than anything.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! It's my fault you all died!  All because I had to pick a stupid fight with Nii-san!" Kaoru wept to the grave begging for forgiveness. It burned her to know she caused her family's death. Even eight years later Kaoru still had never truly forgiven herself.
If there was one thing on this planet that Kaoru wanted for her birthday it was for her family to say “we forgive you”. Kaoru knew she would never hear those words. That she would never again hear her father's voice read her stories, her mother singing while she cooked and her brother's taunts as they competed against each other in video games. Kaoru could feel the sharp pain in her heart becoming unbearable just thinking about that.  Whoever had said "time heals all wounds" was a liar, she thought. Kaoru knew that the pain she felt would never completely fade.
Kaoru wasn't sure how much time had passed but it was enough that her tears had long since dried. Slowly rising from the ground, Kaoru took a deep breath trying to calm herself. Giving the gravestone one last look Kaoru began to walk away. As she walked away three ghostly figures appeared with sad smiles on each of their faces.
"Little Athena I wish you'd understand that you don't need to ask for forgiveness from us. So put down that grief of yours." Raito Shinozaki pleaded as he looked at his daughter with sorrowful eyes.
"Oh my sweet girl, we never blamed you for our deaths." Shizuka Shinozaki murmured as she gazed at Kaoru's retreating figure.
"Geez, for a genius you sure are an idiot for thinking we'd hate you. I made my choice shielding you from the crash and I don't regret it, not even for a moment." Yakumo Shinozaki smirked, sticking his tongue out at Kaoru's back.
"We love you." The three gently whispered as they faded away.
Kaoru stopped in her tracks and looked around. "I could've sworn I just heard? No, I couldn't have. It's just the grief making me hear things." She murmured, continuing walking down the path to the entrance.
To Kaoru's surprise, Yuriko and Kanra were standing there at the entrance. Saying nothing as she walked into Yuriko's open arms hugging her tight and burying her head in the crook of Yuriko's neck. Kaoru felt Kanra gently wrap her tiny self around both of them. She stood there content basking in the presence of her adoptive family.
"Are you okay?" Yuriko whispered in her ear a concerned look on her face.
"I will be," Kaoru murmured back. Detangling herself from Yuriko and Kanra, Kaoru grabbed their hands giving them a quick squeeze. Silently promising to herself that she won't let anything happen to her new family as long as she lived. "Now let's go home. We've got the rest of my birthday to celebrate!" Kaoru declared pulling the two with her as she began walking home.
Perhaps one day she'll forgive herself for the car accident that took her family away from her. For now, though Kaoru wanted to spend the rest of her birthday with the family she had made herself.

Kai,
if by any chance you get to read this, i wish i said more things. there were so many things left unsaid like thank you for buying me iced coffee. thank you for being there to make me laugh and for supporting me through my studies. thank you for letting me know your mom and your brother whom i wish i met in real life. thank you for letting me know about your wishes and aspirations, for letting me see your quirks and hobbies, for lecturing me literally about anything. thank you for being there to listen about my day literally even if it was so boring and you had no reason to listen. thank you, really. i will treasure all those moments we spent until sunrise. you made me happy, kai. you truly did. we had so many plans, and in my heart i know we would have done it. you weren't my safe space to land but you were there and that was enough for me. i wish we, how i wish, we could have made our plans come true. like you singing to me on your car or me driving your car. or how i'd visit your pub and maybe we'd have some fun. or how you'd cook for me. despite everything you've said about who you are, you've shown me your good side. and he's alive and i know you're protecting that side of you but maybe i was chosen by fate to be in your life so you could see the relationships you could build with other people if you were like that to them, the way you were with me. no matter who you were in your given name, all three of them were my friend. kai was the one i loved the most but t needed it the most, i'm sorry i failed to see him more to give it to him. j needed more time but in part, he is the one who stayed with me because when i was with him, i know that you were at some point, at peace with me. i choose to remember the good things. and frankly, now that it has ended that's all i remember. i miss the jokes and the banters. but i also remember the raw moments. i wish you would go back to music. i wish you would accomplish your dreams. i truly wish you all the best in your endeavours because i believe in your grit, hard work, and passion for your cause. i wish, at the very least, you put it to your heart that we didn't end in bad terms, that if ever we see each other again you'd acknowledge me. that you'd even give me a smile if i make a joke. or you'd recognise me. i hope, really hope, that you'd remember all the good times. because it was real for me. we spent so much time together that it seems like i've known you for years. i didn't break down walls, you opened them for me. thank you for trusting me with that and know that your secrets would die with me. i lied when i said i didn't care, i did. everything you said and felt mattered to me. i cared about you. you maybe no prince charming but you were a part of my life that was a villain in the midst of his character development. i can't heal you but i trust you'd find your way back, maybe even back to me. i hope, in the near future, our paths will cross again. in the better versions of ourselves. i will miss everything. literally everything we did. but what i'll miss the most is the part where i had you as a real friend. i'll miss you; the sky, earth, and sea will witness it. but this is the right thing to do. thank you for being a part of my life. mahal kita. sana naparamdam ko man lang yan sayo. if i didn't, then i could've been a better friend. i wish we were at the same page, the same phase of our lives. you weren't ready and i wasn't too but with you it felt like something was there. we were something don't you think so? or at the very least i just wanted the same effort from you. maybe it just wasn't our time. that's okay. the universe will find a way for us to meet, and i hope this time you have finally forgiven yourself. that's all that matters to me. maybe by then, you'd allow people to love you and to be loved. be happy, okay? find a way. -kdr

quasi-religious
I've done some smoking this morning and some light meditation (aka watching stuff on YouTube that inspires me) and I feel compelled to write. So, I'm going to write about the role that religion plays in my life.
I was raised in the Baptist church. What they teach, or at least what I was taught there, is that Jesus loves everyone and no matter what you do, if you ask for forgiveness and truly repent, you can be forgiven and go to heaven. Every Sunday my whole extended family would attend church. As a kid, it was more like a social function. You had your school friends, your sports friends, and your church friends; and you only got to see your church friends on Sunday. So, I liked going to church. I got to see my family and friends, and after church we'd all go to my grandparents and have a big Sunday dinner.
When I was around 10-11 we got a new pastor, and his focus was on preaching to and helping the so-called "undesirables." People who actually needed help. The people that Jesus would hang out with. Soon, our church was filled with recovering drug addicts, people covered in tattoos, and other people who just needed help. Well, the other leaders of the church were not so happy with these new members of the congregation and essentially fired the pastor. They announced it one morning at church, and my father, who was a good friend to the pastor, stood up and called them out on their hypocrisy. Chaos erupted, and to keep it short, we hardly ever went back to church after that, only on Easter. Then, a few years later, my brother came out as gay, and we definitely didn't go to church after that.
Despite all that, I guess because I was indoctrinated at such a young age, I've always tried to live my life according to the principles of the church. Don't get me wrong, I am against almost everything modern organized religion is for e.g. pro-life, homophobia, racism, etc. However, I really believe in the golden rule of treat others how you'd like to be treated. I've always been a real empath and peoples' feelings have a real impact on me.
I was born into a privileged family, I never wanted for anything in my life. Even today, I am completely privileged. I recognize that, and I thank God every single day for what I ascribe to be His doing. Anytime in life, I'm faced with true difficulty or a hard fork in my road, I pray to God.
As you might have seen from my previous posts, this past summer was the most difficult, darkest period of my life. I was trying to finish graduate school, my long LONG time girlfriend cheated on me and we broke up, and I had to take the licensing test all graduates of my field must take to start their careers. The whole time, as fucked up as I was, I prayed to God to get me through it. Because of how fucked up I was, I studied maybe 40 hours for this licensing exam, when they recommend 500+ hours of studying to pass. After the first day, where I basically guessed on everything because I was so lost, I went back up to my hotel room and pulled out the Gideon Bible. I went to the part in the Bible where they tell you what verses to go to for whatever problem you're facing, and I found a recommendation for feeling lost, or wanting something. It directed me to the book of James chapter one, where I found the following: 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
I sat in my hotel room and I prayed for a good hour. I thanked God for everything he had done for me up to that point and I asked Him to bestow upon me wisdom. After that, I put my study materials away and thought that whatever happens, God has my back. As corny as that sounds, I know. Not going to lie, this stuff makes me cringe. Uber-religious people make me super cringe. But, I prayed, believed, and erased all doubt from my mind. Sure enough, I get my results back a few months later, and I passed. Somehow someway.
Whether the Baptists were right or not, I can't say. One thing I used to struggle with when I would attend church regularly was the notion that our interpretation of the Bible was correct and everyone else's was wrong. I knew people from different protestant religions and it confused me that they would knowingly follow the "wrong" religion. Soon enough, as I grew up, I met people from all different faiths and was required to study different religious texts from all over the world. I think that the Supreme Court got it right. When inquiring whether someone holds a religious belief, all they look to is whether that person truly believes in the principles of the religion. Whether it be God, the Universe, or whatever you think controls our meager lives on Earth, something is out there keeping tabs on us. And I find comfort in the fact that when ever something is out of my control, I can put all my worry and rest aside as its my belief that God is watching out for me.
So, whatever it is you believe, dear reader of mine, I support you. And I hope it gives you the same feeling that I get whenever I seek refuge in my beliefs.

Sneak Peek: on the sea we'd be forgiven (wouldn't you like to know how far you've got left to go)
“You can take mine.”
She almost forgot he was here, and when she turns to look at Zuko he’s got an expression she can’t quite place. His jaw is rigid yet his eyes are soft and searching under the moonlight, and under the stars Katara can admit he really is quite handsome. All sharp, angular lines masking soft smiles he gives when he thinks no one is looking, and piercing amber eyes that never stray too far.
Glancing down at his outstretched hand, she finds a half eaten bowl of fire flakes and stares back at Zuko. She has an overwhelming urge to laugh because of course he would take an analogy literally and of course he would offer a bowl of food right after she vomited her maudlin thoughts out to him. But he continues to stand there, unwavering in his awkward support, and Katara takes a handful because this is Zuko’s way of letting her know he’s here. And that is enough for her.
She pretends to cover up her cough as she struggles to swallow the spicy food, and she swears Zuko snorts at the effort. As seconds pass and Katara takes in his silent company, a small part of her wonders whether he meant she can take his love—a love that could devastate her, consume her whole, or create a bridge between two nations. The thought sends her into a tailspin, her stomach rolling while her heart pounds beneath her ribs so loud she can’t think. Katara does not want to think about It or even begin to comprehend the implications of It, nor does she have the emotional capacity to dwell on It for a moment longer.
But she would be lying if she said It didn’t bring her comfort in more ways than one.

Out on the sea, we'd be forgiven
Our bodies stopped the spirit living
Wouldn't you like to know
How far you’ve got left to go?
Whistle to a friend
Gentle 'til the end
Any way, in a name
She takes shape, just the same

Out on the sea we'd be forgiven
Our bodies stopped the spirit leaving
Wouldn't you like to know how far you've got left to go
Somebody's child
Nobody made you
It's not what you stole, it's what they gave you
In or out, you go
In your silence, your soul
Would you rather go unwilling?
The heart is full and now it's spilling
Barreling down the steps
Only a moment left
In hind of sight no peace of mind
Where you begin and I'm defined
Daughter of unconscious fate
Time will tell, in spite of me
In hind of sight no peace of mind
Where it begins and we'll be fine
Shadows bend and suddenly
The world becomes
And swallows me in, me in
Whistle to a friend
Gentle 'til the end
Any way in a name
She takes shape just the same
__world, guess I'll never quit breaking my own fragile little heart... This Song is like a fire storm in my soul.
